Lough Erne​

All craft with an engine capacity in excess of 10bhp on the Erne System must be registered with the Waterways Ireland Inspectorate.  Registration is free and you can register by visiting our Craft Registaion Portal .    Upon registering, you will be provided with a registration number that must be displayed in a prominent position on your boat. You need to inform Inspectorate immediately of any change in ownership.   A system of mutual recognition is in place, so boats registered on the Erne System, do not need to re-register when moving between the Shannon Navigation or the Shannon-Erne Waterway.

I have been thinking of doing this with my UK Part 1 registered boat and I see there is a company: Irish Boat Registration Services, offering to arrange everything. Has anyone dealt with this company and was it OK?

I registered a boat on the Irish register 10 years ago and since then I've also registered a boat on the Jersey register Part 1. The procedure for both is quite similar although Jersey is much more streamlined as the Registry operates as a one-stop shop whereas in Ireland you have to deal with 3 separate government offices. That said I handled all the Irish registration procedure by e mail from Turkey apart from a couple of documents which had to be posted. The procedure for a tonnage survey sounds a lot more complicated than it is in reality. I've no experience of the company you mention and they may be excellent but I'd always be wary of dealing with a company whose only contact details are a gmail address and a mobile phone.  

I just looked them up. Its a relatively new company. Set up at the end of 2019. I haven't heard about them. I see its run off a mobile phone number and a gmail account. There's a guy in Dublin called Brian Matthews. He's a marine surveyor, engineer, yachtmaster etc etc. He's well got in the marine business community here and would be a good person to call. If he knows them then he'd tell you what he thinks. He's a very forthright chap. His company is allspec marine. Maybe worth calling him. At the very least he would do the survey for you and you could handle the rest. Worth a phone call. Here's a link: Welcome

I registered a Beneteau 373 that I brought in from France 5 years ago. I did it myself. Yes , I found it quite job ! We had a Small Ships registry here in the past but it was scrapped. So registering a small pleasure yacht here is no different to a large ship as mentioned above. I had to get the boat " measured" by the "Marine Survey office"- even though all the specs are available on line. The surveyor comes on board and" measures " the boat. You end up with an " Irish Tonnage Certificate " and a hull "Carving Number" that must be etched or carved on a timber plate and fixed permanently to the Hull. He came back for a 2nd visit to verify the number was displayed! So the boat has to be available for inspection. I had to have documents showing proof of de registry in France and also proof that Vat was paid in France( The original Vat Invoice for the purchase of the boat) otherwise there was Vat due. So there was a bit paperwork involved! I seem to recollect at the time that there was talk of setting up some sort of Small Ships registry again here. It might be worth checking with the Irish Sailing Association, you will find them easily on line. They used to manage the old SSR here and I'm sure they would have the latest information. I am about to do this, I am told that it is easier than it is made to seem when looking at their websites. Of course I need to find the ships paperwork which is lost in my house somewhere...

Irish Limited company

Home » Irish Limited Company

On request, we can incorporate an Irish Limited company to use as a holding company for your boat or yacht. Because of the Brexit, Ireland became the most economical and suitable European country for setting up a limited liability company which can be used for your boat registration.

We will incorporate  a “dormant” company for the purpose of yacht registration. A dormant company is a company that has no commercial or economical activities, therefore it has very limited formal obligations.

If you want a more affordable alternative, we can provide the UK Limited Company till the end of this year (till the end of 2020, because of the Brexit).

How does it work?

Do you need an Irish limited company because you do not own a European passport and want a European boat registration? BlueWater Registration Services services customers from all over the world. After completion, you will get send the registration information by overnight courier.

I do not have an European passport

If you want an Irish Limited company without having a European passport, there are several possible ways. It’s possible that:

• We appoint an EU resident nominee director, which will be done by our Irish partner company. This will be at additional costs.
• You can appoint a family member, friend or acquaintance with an EU passport as director. This will be without additional costs.

All obligations, concerning filling out documents and taking care that your company will be in good standing, will be taken care of. So you have nothing to worry about! Of course, you are also allowed to take care of this your own. You can choose this during the online registration process.

I do have a European passport

If you do have a European passport you will be the director yourself or provide an EU/EEA citizen as director of your own choice.

How much does an Irish limited company cost?

When holding an eu/eea passport.

When the yacht owner is holder of an EU/EEA passport and can act as the shareholder and director him- or herself or can provide an EU/EEA resident director, the initial onetime costs are € 750,-. Annual yearly costs for the Irish limited company are € 850,-.

When not holding an EU/EEA passport

In this case our local Irish partner will appoint an EU resident nominee director for your company of which you will be shareholder. This service demands more paperwork , responsibility and time. The initial onetime costs are € 1350,- with annual yearly costs of € 1450,-.

What documents are required for an Irish limited company?

Sweeping, sculpted curves give Lady Lara a feminine elegance and the interior reportedly flows just as sinuously. Lady Lara is a private yacht and following her maiden voyage to Norway, she headed to Florida, the Bahamas and the Eastern Caribbean islands for the winter season.

Lady Lara features a displacement steel hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. She was built to Lloyds Register classification society rules.

Who is alexander mashkevitch.

Mashkevich was born in Frunze, Kyrgyz SSR, Soviet Union, in 1954. His father Anton, a doctor born in Lithuania, and his mother, Rakhel Yoffe, a lawyer born in Vitebsk, were evacuated to Kyrgyzstan in 1941. His family background is Lithuanian Jewish.

He is a graduate of Kyrgyz State University where he studied philology. Mashkevich started out an academic career but became a businessman during perestroika. Mashkevich, Patokh Chodiev, and Alijan Ibragimov form “the Trio,” a group of Kazakh businessmen who became billionaires. The Trio gained control of the recently privatized chromium, alumina, and gas operations in Kazakhstan (some of the largest ones in the world).

Mashkevich is one of the owners of Alferon Management. Based in London, Alferon Management has acquired mining operations in different places: Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, Kosovo, Russia, and other countries.

In 2010 he was on the Forbes list of billionaires at #287. In 2017, he was on the list at #1098, with a worth of $1.9 billions. Now his worth is 3 billion dollars.

The award winning 91m/298'7" motor yacht 'Lady Lara' by the German shipyard Lurssen offers flexible accommodation for up to 12 guests in 8 cabins and features interior styling by British designer Reymond Langton Design.

Built in 2015, Lady Lara is designed for exquisite indoor/outdoor living and boasts voluminous interior and exterior spaces across several decks: ideal for bronzing, lounging or entertaining. She has sensational features such as a dancefloor, beauty salon, movie theatre, spa, elevator, underwater lights, beach club and gym.

Guest Accommodation

Lady Lara offers guest accommodation for up to 12 guests in 8 suites. The master suite incorporates its own study and dressing room as well as a his and her bathroom. There are up to twenty-seven crew members on board to provide outstanding service on your charter.

Built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, she offers greater on-board space and is more stable when at anchor thanks to her full-displacement hull. Powered by twin MTU engines, she comfortably cruises at 12 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 17 knots with a range of up to 6,000 nautical miles from her 220,000 litre fuel tanks at cruising speed. The incredibly designed LADY LARA yacht features an interior style from Reymond Langton Design .

She has accommodations for 18 guests and 19 crew members on board. The VIP suites have fold-down balconies that add to the grandeur.

The onboard atmosphere is bright and inviting with subtle finishes. The entertainment areas are open to provide more sheltered and intimate formal spaces.

The yacht has an extensive health and beauty center with a spa and an expansive beach club.

The beach club creates the perfect area for guests to enjoy indoor/outdoor living. There is also a swimming platform where guests can leap into the water below.

She has an on-deck jacuzzi to soak up the bubbles and the views. The yacht also has an elevator for convenient access to her different decks and a comprehensive gym onboard. The tender garage is brimming with towable toys and tenders.

Reymond Langton Design also contributed to the exterior design of the LADY LARA yacht. She was built by Lürssen and delivered from their Rendsburg shipyard in 2015. The exterior has sweeping curves and elegant but masculine features.

LADY LARA was code-named project Orchid when she was launched from the Lürssen Shipyard in 2015 and later renamed. She has a full displacement hull which gives her exceptional speeds in the water.

She has a white aluminum superstructure and teak decks throughout. The exterior is accented by underwater lights, which illuminate her at the night.

The LADY LARA yacht is a 91m superyacht with a beam of 14.82m and a draft of 4m. The vessel reaches a maximum speed of 18 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots.

She is powered by 2 MTU engines and has a displacement of 2,945 gross tons.

She features an advanced stabilization system that provides guests with the best comfort levels on board by minimizing the rolling motion of the vessel. The $180 million yacht has a $14 – $15 million annual running cost.

She is an award-winning yacht that holds an award from the Asia Boating competition in 2016. LADY LARA has a Lloyd’s Register classification.

A $1.4 Million-Per-Week Yacht Charter Experience

Y.CO has just welcomed the 298-foot Lürssen Lady Lara to the charter fleet. The lowest weekly base rate is $1.4 million for bookings this winter in the Caribbean and Bahamas.

The yacht is also listed for sale—at more than $254 million—for the first time since the German shipyard delivered it in 2015. Y.CO’s Max Bulley and Gary Wright, along with Merle Wood of Merle Wood & Associates, represented the yacht at the recent Monaco Yacht Show.

“With Lürssen quality and stunning Reymond Langton design, Lady Lara is an exceptional yacht that was conceived with family living in mind,” Wright stated in a press release. “Her adaptable spaces, variety and flexibility, in addition to all the amazing features like the breathtaking spa area, the beach club and two pools, are ideal for multigenerational groups and put Lady Lara into a league of her own.”

Accommodations are for 12 guests in their choice of eight staterooms (for private use, the yacht is built to accommodate 16 guests). Six of the guest staterooms are on the main deck, with one on the lower deck. The master suite has its own private deck with an exterior terrace, outdoor hot tub, and indoor library. The aft-deck space in the owner’s area is called a “winter garden,” with sliding glass panels that can be closed to shelter diners from the elements.

There also are two cabins for owner’s staff or supernumeraries, in addition to the yacht’s quarters for 27 crew.

Onboard amenities include an aft-deck pool whose floor can be raised to create a dance floor. A sound system on this deck helps to create a discotheque-style environment for parties. There’s another pool up on the sundeck, this one with a swim-up bar.

On the bridge deck, guests have access to the spa, which includes a hammam, massage room, treatment room, beauty salon and gymnasium. Guests who prefer to get their exercise outdoors can do so from the beach club at water level, which has a steam room and a sauna along with a sunbathing area.

For rainy days and relaxing nights, the lower deck aboard Lady Lara includes a cinema. There’s also a touch-and-go helipad on board, if guests want to escape to a different spot up the coast.

How fast can Lady Lara cruise? According to Y.CO, the yacht has a top speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots, which is plenty fast for exploring the islands.

Who owns the ship that struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore?

The collapse of  Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge on Tuesday after being struck by a cargo ship has raised questions about who owns and manages the ship, as well as on the potential impact on one the busiest ports in the U.S.

Called the Dali, the 948-foot vessel that hit the bridge is managed by Synergy Marine Group, a Singapore-based company with over 660 ships under management worldwide, according to its website . The group said the ship was operated by charter vessel company Synergy Group and chartered by Danish shipping giant Maersk at the time of the incident, which sent vehicles and people tumbling into the Patapsco River.

"We are horrified by what has happened in Baltimore, and our thoughts are with all of those affected," Maersk said in a statement to CBS News on Tuesday, in which it also confirmed the ship was carrying cargo for Maersk customers. The company had no crew or personnel aboard the ship.

The Dali, which can carry up to 10,000 twenty-foot equivalent units, or TEUs, was carrying nearly 4,700 containers at the time of the collision. It was operated by a 22-person, Indian crew. It was not immediately clear what kind of cargo the ship was carrying. 

Who owns and manages the Dali?

The Dali is owned by Grace Ocean Private, a Singapore-based company that provides water transportation services. The ship was chartered by Danish container shipping company Maersk at the time of the collision.

Synergy Marine, founded in 2006, provides a range of ship management services, including managing ships' technical components and their crews and overseeing safety, according to S&P Capital IQ. Its parent company, Unity Group Holdings International, an investment holding company, was founded in 2008 and is based in Hong Kong.

Where was the ship headed?

The outbound ship had left Baltimore and was headed for Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, Synergy Marine Group said in a  press release . 

How busy is the Port of Baltimore?

In 2023, the Port of Baltimore handled a record 52.3 million tons of foreign cargo, worth $80 billion, according  to the office of Maryland Gov. Wes Moore. The port is also a significant provider of local jobs. 

The top port in the U.S. for sugar and gypsum imports, it is the ninth busiest U.S. port by the total volume and value of foreign cargo handled. All vessel traffic into and out of the facility is currently suspended, although the port remains open and trucks continue to be processed within its terminals, according to a statement released by Port of Baltimore officials. 

What is the potential local economic impact?

Directly, the port supports 15,300 jobs, while another 140,000 in the area are related to port activities. The jobs provide a combined $3.3 billion in personal income, according to a CBS News report . The Port of Baltimore said Tuesday that it is unclear how long ship traffic will be suspended.

The disaster also caused chaos for local drivers. The Maryland Transportation Authority said all lanes were closed in both directions on I-695, with traffic being detoured to I-95 and I-895.

How could the bridge collapse affect consumers and businesses?

Experts say the bridge collapse could cause significant supply chain disruptions.

"While Baltimore is not one of the largest U.S. East Coast ports, it still imports and exports more than 1 million containers each year, so there is the potential for this to cause significant disruption to supply chains," Emily Stausbøll, a market analyst at Xeneta, an ocean and air freight analytics platform, said in a statement. 

She added that freight services from Asia to the East Coast in the U.S. have already been hampered by drought in the Panama Canal, as well as risks related to conflict in the Red Sea. Nearby ports, including those in New York, New Jersey and Virginia, will be relied on to handle more shipments if Baltimore remains inaccessible. 

Whether ocean freight shipping rates will rise dramatically, potentially affecting consumers as retailers pass along higher costs, will depend on how much extra capacity the alternate ports can handle, Stausbøll said. "However, there is only so much port capacity available and this will leave supply chains vulnerable to any further pressure."

Marty Durbin, senior vice president of policy at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, said that the bridge is a critical connector of "people, businesses, and communities."

"Unfortunately, its prolonged closure will likely disrupt commercial activities and supply chains that rely on the bridge and Port of Baltimore each day," he said in a statement.

What other industries could be affected?

Trucking companies could be severely affected by the disaster. 

"Aside from the obvious tragedy, this incident will have significant and long-lasting impacts on the region," American Trucking Associations spokesperson Jessica Gail said, calling Key Bridge and Baltimore's port "critical components'' of the nation's infrastructure.

Gail noted that 1.3 million trucks cross the bridge every year — 3,600 a day. Trucks that carry hazardous materials will now have to make 30 miles of detours around Baltimore because they are prohibited from using the city's tunnels, she said, adding to delays and increasing fuel costs.

"Time-wise, it's going to hurt us a lot," added Russell Brehm, the terminal manager in Baltimore for Lee Transport, which trucks hazardous materials such as petroleum products and chemicals. The loss of the bridge will double to two hours the time it takes Lee to get loads from its terminal in Baltimore's Curtis Bay to the BJ's gasoline station in the waterfront neighborhood of Canton, he estimated.

Cruise operators are also being affected. A Carnival cruise ship that set off Sunday for the Bahamas had been scheduled to return to Baltimore on March 31. Carnival said Tuesday that it is "currently evaluating options for Carnival Legend's scheduled return on Sunday." The company also has cruises scheduled to set sail from Baltimore through the summer. 

Norwegian Cruise Line last year introduced new routes departing from the Port of Baltimore. Its sailings are scheduled for late this year. The company said the Key Bridge collapse doesn't immediately require it to reroute any ships.

Who will pay to rebuild the bridge?

President Biden said Tuesday that the federal government, with congressional support, would pay to rebuild the bridge.

"We're going to work with our partners in Congress to make sure the state gets the support it needs. It's my intention that the federal government will pay for the entire cost of reconstructing that bridge," Biden said in comments from the White House. "And I expect the Congress to support my effort. This is going to take some time. The people of Baltimore can count on us though, to stick with them, at every step of the way, till the port is reopened and the bridge is rebuilt."

Captain of container ship that caused Baltimore bridge collapse is Indian, not Ukrainian

India’s foreign ministry said on Thursday that the crew members of the cargo ship that lost power and crashed into a bridge in Baltimore are in “good shape and good health.” (Mar 28).

CLAIM: The captain of Dali, the container ship that crashed into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge, is Ukrainian.

AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. A Ukrainian man who was listed on a maritime jobs database as captaining Dali for about five months in 2016 is being erroneously blamed for the incident online. The Dali’s captain and crew are Indian, Synergy Marine Group, the company that manages the ship, told The Associated Press. There were two pilots — local specialists who help guide vessels safely in and out of ports — navigating Dali at the time of the collision . Both are U.S. citizens, according to Synergy.

THE FACTS: Following the crash that caused Key Bridge to collapse early Tuesday, social media users shared a screenshot of a webpage they said identified Dali’s captain.

The screenshot, taken on the BalticShipping.com database, shows two seafarers listed as having worked on Dali , including a 52-year-old Ukrainian man who it says applied for the role of master, or captain.

“The captain of the ship that hit the bridge in Baltimore is Ukrainian,” reads one X post, sharing the screenshot. “Is he upset with the aid delay? Or just unlucky?”

But Synergy told the AP that Dali’s captain and crew at the time of the collision were Indian.

Dali was being piloted out of Baltimore when it struck Key Bridge, the company wrote in a statement on Tuesday. Synergy told the AP that both pilots were U.S. citizens. One of the pilots was an apprentice observing a licensed pilot, said Clay Diamond , executive director and general counsel for the American Pilots Association.

The ship was headed from Baltimore to Colombo, Sri Lanka, and flying under a Singapore flag, according to data from Marine Traffic . Every foreign-flagged ship coming into U.S. water must have a state-licensed pilot on board. Pilots board the ships before they enter the local waterways and take navigational control, meaning they give orders for the ship’s speed and direction.

In a summary of his work history on BalticShipping.com, the Ukrainian man seen in the screenshot spreading online was listed as master, or captain, of Dali from March 19, 2016, to July 27, 2016. According to the summary, Dali flew under a Marshall Islands flag at the time and was managed by a Greek company called Oceanbulk Maritime.

The Ukrainian man’s BalticShipping.com listing had been removed from the site as of Tuesday evening.

After losing power, Dali crashed into one of Key Bridge’s pillars about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, causing the structure to break apart and crumple within seconds into the Patapsco River. Both the FBI and U.S. Attorney Erek Barron, Maryland’s top prosecutor, say there are no signs of terrorism .

Six construction workers who were filling potholes on the bridge when it collapsed are still unaccounted for and presumed dead, the AP has reported . Two people were rescued from the water on Tuesday.

The collapse is expected to create a logistical nightmare for months, if not years, in the region, shutting down ship traffic at the Port of Baltimore, a major shipping hub. It will also snarl cargo and commuter traffic.
