After a monumental build effort in record time, the first ever superyacht marina on the Red Sea coast has been welcoming yachts in time for the inaugural Saudi Arabia Grand Prix , where lucky visitors will get the chance to preview the world-class Jeddah Yacht Club (JYC) before its grand opening in March 2022.

In a continued bid to promote economic growth in the area, the JYC marina and yacht club marks the first foray into major yachting developments that are set to take place in the kingdom over the next ten years.

Jeddah Marina in Saudi Arabia

Mohideen Nazer, Director of Parks and Resorts at SELA is delighted that the yachting world has its first home address on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea, confirming that the project is “a major first step to turn the Red Sea Coast into a compelling destination for yachting aficionados to enjoy our amazing cruising grounds.”

The new marina, opened on the eve of the F1 event, will be able to accommodate over 100 yachts up to an impressive 120m (394ft) in length, and will provide a convenient stop-off point for yachts heading to the popular cruising grounds of the Indian Ocean and SouthEast Asia. Long and short-term berths are already available to book at port JYC Marina.

The Saudi Authorities have already confirmed recognition of the JYC marina as a port authority, which means all immigration and customs can be handled directly on site, including for foreign-flagged vessels chartering the region.

The marina will also be able to provide convenient repair and maintenance facilities once completed.

Shaping up to be a world-class facility, the JYC will be the perfect complement to the marina, offering visitors the ultimate platform for “diverse, world-class experiences across a spectrum of social, sport and leisure activities.”

The JYC will be home to a 5,000m² club house as well as an array of spectacular amenities, including a wellness centre, concierge services, Michelin Star-rated chef Jason Atherton restaurant and a Beach Club featuring an infinity pool with glorious views over the Red Sea.

Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina Previewed During Saudi Arabia F1 Grand Prix Weekend

Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina Previewed During Saudi Arabia F1 Grand Prix Weekend

The new Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina hosted over 40 superyachts and smaller vessels during the inaugural Saudi Arabian F1 Grand Prix this weekend, giving yacht owners and their guests an amazing experience of the F1 action on the Jeddah Corniche Street Circuit. Guests aboard mega yachts including the 95-meter M/Y O Pari,   built by Golden Yachts, the 85-meter Oceanco Sunrays  and the 82-meter Abeking & Rasmussen RoMEA, revealed in an adrenalin-fueled and action-packed F1 weekend, a first for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina guests witnessed at close quarters the 50-lap dogfight between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen in a race full of incident and action.  In his post-race interview Hamilton thanked the people of Jeddah for being so welcoming and said it was a privilege to be racing in their home city. Oliver Rees, General Manager of Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina (from January 2022) said: “What a weekend we have had and what a fitting preview for this fantastic facility.  It is clear from this F1 weekend that the Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina will be a perfect home port for private yachts, but also a great place to meet, enjoy sailing and water sports and revel in the quality of services we have on offer. It is a natural gateway to cruising amongst the wonders of the Red Sea, and we are confident that it will rapidly become a prime waypoint on the global yachting map.” Mohideen Nazer, Director, Parks & Resorts at SELA said: “We’re delighted that the world of yachting now has  its first home address on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast.  This weekend has been a fitting preview of what’s to come.  We have developed a beautiful yacht club and marina and the people of Jeddah have shown their welcoming hospitality.  We have seen this weekend that Jeddah is an amazing place for yachts to visit”. The Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina is the first marina along the Red Sea coast that can accommodate superyachts and mega yachts up to 120metres and will officially open in early 2022 in time for the return of the F1 Grand Prix to Jeddah on 25th-27th March, 2022. The Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina was built in record time by local Saudi Arabia Events and Resorts business, Sela – an incredible six months from first breaking ground, on an inland site, to opening for the berthing of some of the biggest yachts in the world. The stunning complex is situated in the northern part of Jeddah, only a few kilometres away from the new King Abdulaziz airport and the city centre. It comprises the state-of-the-art Marina, the luxurious Jeddah Yacht Club and a selection of world-renowned retail and entertainment venues. A WORLD CLASS MARINA: The Jeddah Yacht Club Marina epitomizes the future of super yachting on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coastline with berths for over 100 yachts of all sizes up to 120m. It is the first step of a series of major yachting developments that will take place in the Kingdom over the next 10 years, stretching from Neom in the North to Amaala and the Red Sea Project further south down to Jeddah and beyond. The Jeddah Yacht Club Marina is recognized by the Saudi authorities as a port of entry into the Kingdom. As such, it provides customs clearance and immigration services to all vessels, including foreign-flagged superyachts that will charter in the area, or stop off to visit this fast-developing destination on their way to the newly opened cruising grounds of the East Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia. Jeddah is a highly strategic location for yachts passing from the Mediterranean, GCC, Indian Ocean, Asia and beyond. Short-term or long-term berths are available at the marina ahead of the official launch.  Interested yachts should contact the marina manager by emailing [email protected]. A WORLD CLASS YACHT CLUB; An exclusive members-only club, the Jeddah Yacht Club will grow the maritime spirit and lifestyle in Saudi Arabia.   Strategically positioned at the crossroads of historical Red Sea maritime routes the Jeddah Yacht Club will provide a major new platform in the Kingdom for the development of sailing, boating and every facet of a healthy maritime life. It will raise awareness about marine biodiversity and ensure the preservation of the Red Sea environment for the younger generations and the local community. The Jeddah Yacht Club’s architecture has been carefully designed to stimulate the senses and offer its members a rich, marine-inspired atmosphere where they can enjoy the numerous social and nautical activities available. Its mast-and-sail-themed 5,000 sqm club house, located by the entrance channel of the Marina, is a beacon, a lighthouse that welcomes visitors to Jeddah’s shores. In addition to panoramic views of the city, the Jeddah Yacht Club boasts a feast of facilities for its members, including restaurants, a wellness centre, a business centre, lounges, concierge services, sailing and nautical activities. Jeddah Beaches

Known for its unique and vibrant beaches, the city of Jeddah overlooks the Red Sea, and as the cities of the world unwind and relax on weekdays after sunset, busy life continues at Jeddah's shores until late at night.

• North Corniche Stroll Gardens and green areas form a large part of the North Corniche where residents like to sit facing the Red Sea with their families and friends. The children also enjoy playgrounds set up for them in designated locations near their families. The North Corniche has a vast area estimated at 236,000 m2, stretching from the Border Guard Centre to the Nawras Roundabout. The North Corniche has many service stalls, kiosks, and restaurants. There are many recreational places near it, such as Al Shallal theme Park Faqih Aquarium, and the Jeddah Waterfront.

• Strolling the Central Corniche Central Corniche is known by other names, such as: Alhamra Corniche which is known for having the longest fountain in the world – the King Fahd Fountain. This fountain was gifted to the city of Jeddah by King Fahd in 1985. The base of the fountain is represented in the shape of an essence burner expressing hospitality and a warm welcome to Jeddah's visitors. Restaurants and service kiosks are also scattered along the Central Corniche. You can explore its hidden gems on foot, estimated to be 3.6 km long. We advise you to watch the spectacular sunset at the Central Corniche in front of the fountain, or to enjoy watching palm tree leaf silhouette moving by the sweet breeze as the most luxurious international hotel stands behind it, the Ritz Carlton.

• Blue Dolphins in South Obhur Corniche On your way to South Obhur you'll see the finest artefacts such as The Camel Roundabout. And next to it is a first-rate group of restaurants and cafes in Marina Avenue Mall such as Café Dijon with a French atmosphere and Kunafa Factory famous for the finest kinds of desserts. Historic Jeddah

Before naming it as the royal seaport for Makkah at 657 AD, the Al-Balad site, ‘Historic Jeddah’, was built on beautiful coastal land.   Tour of the most exquisite ancient houses

• Bait Nassif Start your journey through history inside the ancient houses of Al-Balad with Bait Nassif. As you enter Bait Nassif, you stand on the grounds of the first orientally designed Arabic house in Jeddah. It has been used ‎throughout the years as a temporary residence for kings and scholars. With 40 wide rooms with high ceilings, its floors ‎transformed into art galleries and cosy cafes, where you can enjoy the company of your family or friends in evenings full of joy ‎and storytelling.‎

• Bait Matbouli Let your walking journey take you next to the well-preserved architectural beauty of Bait Matbouli. The experience of walking around here resembles walking into a heritage museum, where every turn has an art ‎painting. This marvellous historic masterpiece dates back to 420 years ago. The building walls have been purposefully constructed to ‎reduce heat and retain a pleasant temperature. It combines a unique blend of local materials, oriental architecture designs, and ‎the use of beyond the sea cultures in interior design, where wood was imported from East Asia and Al-Mangabi Stones excavated from the ‎Red Sea waters.

• Bait Nour Wali Next, you can head to Bait Nour Wali. The building is hard to miss with its unique green protruded delicately inscribed windows, a distinctive feature of Jeddah’s ancient architecture known as Rawashin. Another incredible architectural design feature is that it holds an efficient water system consisting of wall-build pipes that drain rainwater into a ground tank. This house was built by the architectural enthusiast local ‘Muhmood Al-Sabban’. Several years later, on 1946AD it was sold to Abdulgader Nour Wali, and that is where the house got its name. It has been long withstanding as one of the spectacular architectural beauties of Historic Jeddah.

• Bait Alsharbatly Get your camera ready, you’ve reached one of the most ancient and infamous houses of Historic Jeddah: Bait Alsharbatly. It remains since built in 1916AD by Sharif Abdullah Al-Abdali, steadfast with its bright white columns and distinctive wooden windows and balconies overlooking the prominent sites of the area. As time has passed on this beauty, each of its carefully picked tiles became an antiquity inscribed “Made in Al-Hijaz - Jeddah.” All these fascinating details won’t take you away from its unique history. Formerly, the building was the headquarters of the Egyptian Embassy in Saudi Arabia. Its four floors once witnessed extensive fruitful meetings. Now, it has turned into a cultural centre and a favourite location for art galleries and cultural events. You can wander around its antique halls and rooms, but don’t miss the chance of gazing through one of its unmatched precisely designed wooden balconies and admire the view of the surrounding ancient house at sunset.

• Bait Qabil Bait Qabil is placed in the heart of the special area and at the centre of the historic events. Its ceilings were intentionally made tall which is an old mechanism used to allow air passage and purification inside the house. To testify for its incredible architectural design, many artistic mock-ups are made of its highly crafted Rawashins. The merchant Suliman Qabil was able to single-handedly turn the Qabil Street into one of the most prominent and advanced streets of Jeddah at the time. In fact, it was the first street to be supplied with electricity. Till today, this area is considered one of the most significant locations in Jeddah due to its history and heritage. This house and its surrounding area open their door to story-filled visits.

• Zainal House Zainal House is located right at the entrance of Historic Jeddah in Al-sham neighbourhood. Bait ‘Zainal Ali Reda’ with all its splendour, still maintaining its engraved windows as well as stone inscribed door, reflects the artistic nature of that time period. Now, this once one of the most magnificent ancient houses in the area, has developed into an exhibit that sheds light on that era. It served many purposes, one of which is the centre of the Embassy of Holland, where it got its other name Bait Hollanda. In addition, it has welcomed pilgrims coming from Asia and regulated their trip to Makkah.

• Bait AlBatterjee The charmingly antique three-floored Bait AlBatterjee will catch your eyes as you enter Al-Balad area with its attractive colours and thick construction. It was the first headquarters of the American embassy in Jeddah. Today, it has been renovated to reflect its ancient belongings from furniture and rare devices, such as the first Saudi telephone with a ‘Two swords and a pal’ slogan. On the inside walls of the house hangs pictures portraying the significant role it has played. The unique details and history stemming from this house and its surrounding area make it a special destination for tourists.

• Bait Baeshen Bait Baeshen took the lead as a social and cultural centre as it was the gathering place of the notables of Jeddah in the past. Nowadays, it is an amazing tourist destination with its splendid architecture manifested in its gorgeous Rawashins and its meticulously built balconies. It was built according to the highest standards of Islamic art by Shaikh “Muhammed Saleh Ali Baeshem” in 1273AH. Today, the house displays exquisite handicrafts and documents on rare photographs and manuscripts.

• Bait AlRashaida Right in the middle of Bait AlRashaida is a carved plaque with a Quranic verse that dates back to 1301AH. This house was well known for hosting all academic activities. It has still maintained its identity with artwork on Jeddah’s heritage on display made by the hands of Saudi artists. Art sessions are held there from time to time as well. Art lovers and cultural explorers can bet on fond memories here.

• Bait Sallom Bait Sallom has turned into the ‘House of Jeddah and Our Good Days’ museum. It has wonderfully preserved all its belonging as if it was a time capsule for the Al-Balad area. Although it shares the same place and time period of Bait Nassif, it distinctly preserved more of its social belongings. On your family tour, you can show your kids the gramophone musical device, old canned-food and coins, and the first versions of the popular soft drinks.

• Baab Makkah Jeddah - Makkah Gate This beautiful site stands tall at the start of the road leading to the holiest city for Muslims, Makkah. Baab Makkah has witnessed hundreds of millions of pilgrims make their journey to the home town of the Prophet of Islam. It is a three-arched gateway with a large turret on each side, providing support and entrance from Jeddah to Makkah. It serves as an historic monument in one of the oldest areas of Jeddah and has been preserved with great care since the 1940’s when the wall around Makkah was torn down. Baab Makkah, also known as Makkah Gate, is a limestone coral gateway that leads into the historic Al-Balad district of Jeddah. It has served for over 500 years as an entrance to the old city of Jeddah and was constructed during the Mamalik era in order to protect the city from Portuguese invaders. The gate gained its respected reputation since all pilgrims used to pass through it prior to starting their spiritual journey. The city has four other gates but Baab Makkah remains the most prominent. These gates used to open in the early morning and close after the Isha (late night) prayer. Baab Makkah has been maintained and still stands at the centre of Jeddah’s historical downtown. The area itself is a constant hub of activity for both locals and expatriates looking to find goods at reasonable prices. The immediate surrounding area itself has been named after the gate and is surrounded by different old markets including Al-Badu, Gabil, Alawi, Bab Shareef, Al-Nada and Al-Khaskia. Baab Makkah is also home to Al-Asad Graveyard, one of the oldest in town. Although the area is very crowded, it is worth visiting to experience old Jeddah. Vegetable and fruits stalls are dispersed in the area, fresh street food is also available, and a vast variety of local and international products can be found.

King Saud Masjid The largest mosque in the City of Jeddah, King Saud Masjid was designed by Abdel Wahed El-Wakil, a renowned Egyptian architect who designed over 15 mosques in Saudi Arabia and is considered by many as the foremost contemporary authority in Islamic architecture. King Saud Mosque is spread over 9,700 square metres, with 2,464 square metres of that dedicated to the main prayer hall. The mosque is known for its impressive domes, with the largest one being around 20 meters in width and over 42 metres in height, and it is also known for its minaret that stretches 60 metres into the sky. The mosque looks at its best in the daylight when light shimmers into each of its four barrel-vaulted iwans

King Fahd Mosque Carrying a striking resemblance to the grandiose mosques of Morocco, the King Fahd Mosque with its typical Moroccan architecture is disparate from other mosques in the Kingdom. Immense yet graceful, the tile-work, open-air courtyard and slender minarets of the Mosque fascinate onlookers and is a must-see for tourists in Jeddah. The interior is no less impressive with polished floors, delicately crafted columns and Moorish arches topped with triangular domes. The golden lit interior highlights each of these features leaving visitors mesmerised.

Al-Rahmah Mosque - Floating Masjid The Floating Masjid, often referred to as the ‘Floating Mosque’ due to its construction being built above water, is a fascinating mix of old and new architecture having been built in 1985. Stunningly opulent, the floating mosque is undoubtedly one of Jeddah’s cultural symbols. This single domed architectural marvel that sits literally on the sea, symbolizes Jeddah’s bold storm into the modern age. Also known as the Al-Rahma Mosque, a name derived from an influential Saudi merchant family, the Floating Mosque is striking in its architecture. Built into the coast on a set of pillars, this beautiful white mosque appears to float during high tide and is best visited at sunrise or sunset. Step inside to take in its turquoise dome which resembles the colour of the sea has numerous coloured glass windows that let light in, illuminating the interiors marked all around by windows, crystal chandeliers, and stunning kaleidoscope-like patterns. Sitting on an enviable location, the mosque’s courtyard offers unencumbered views of the Red Sea, making it a popular tourist site.

Bin Yamani Mosque Its large gilded dome shines in the night sky. This shining mosque is hard for a passer-by to go past without noticing. The mosque is almost like a tribute to modern Islamic architecture. While strolling through the Mosque at sunset, you will be washed in shadows by this beautiful mosque. With brightly lighted interiors, grand chandeliers and an elegant mimbar (a short flight of steps used as a platform by a preacher in a mosque) the mosque is equally pleasing on the inside.

Sayidna Aisha Masjid A more modern take on a traditional house of worship, Sayidna Aisha Masjid is a contemporary mosque that has re-envisioned iconic elements of mosques such as the domes and minarets. Conical in shape and with a stalactite-like crystal glass mimbar (a short flight of steps used as a platform by a preacher in a mosque), Sayidna Aisha stands out amongst the city’s many mosques.

Enaya Mosque Considered one of the most enduring architectural masterpieces of Jeddah, the Mosque is highly regarded for its dazzling golden dome, multi-coloured mosaics and calligraphic inscriptions. In the early morning light, the Enaya Mosque’s detailing is as vibrant as ever. The large mosque which sits right on the shore of the Red Sea is one of the most noticeable features of the Jeddah coastal skyline. Beneath its large dome (one of the largest in the Middle East) a grand gilded chandelier hangs which gracefully adorns the central portion of the mosque. The artistry on its walls and the intricate turquoise-coloured tiles that adorn them are majestic.

Juffali Mosque The resplendent white mosque is one of the most beautiful mosques in the older part of Jeddah. Sitting next to a calm lake, the mosque is truly picturesque with its architecturally lucid composition that has an air of grandeur more spectacular than the numerous domes that adorn its roof. It’s almost as if the mosque has accentuated the landscape of the area it sits on. The mosque contains a highly compartmentalised plan. In it, the men’s prayer area, the women’s prayer area, residences for the imam and muezzin, teaching areas, as well as ablution facilities, functionally are all separated from each other, but nonetheless united within an overall rectangular arrangement.

Tujjar Jeddah Mosque Capped by a dazzling golden mosaic dome, this radiant mosque is a stunning masterpiece of architecture, design and spirituality. While buildings of outstanding scale and importance are aligned on the same street, the mosque manages to show its prowess. Inside long curtains that stretch from the roof to the floor are one of the most distinct features of this mosque. The shimmering interior of the mosque is very pleasing to the eye, making it one of the most serene and tranquil places where visitors can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and just sit and worship.

Prince Sultan Mosque While not an imposing structure as some of coastal Jeddah’s mosques, but watching the sun dance across its pale cream-colored walls is an experience hard to match. Though not as striking at first sight, one has to get into details to realise the beauty of this mosque. Sitting right next to the Prince Sultan’s grand palace, the beautiful mosque gracefully adorns it. Huge windows covered in intricate metalwork allow sunlight to stream in and the low Andalusian chandeliers give worshipers an altogether different experience to pray in. The exquisite mimbar in front justifies the elegant look of the mosque.

Sayidna Aisha Mosque Typical mosque elements like the dome, minaret and portico are ingrained in our collective memory as the expression of the Islamic religious building. However, there are some mosques that have redefined them again and assembled them in a new way, coherent to contemporary expression and aspirations. One such mosque is the conical Sayidna Aisha mosque. Its exterior is such that one might not be able to comprehend its purpose at first sight, had its towering minaret not been there. Very modern and disparate, this mosque truly strikes out from the other mosques Jeddah has to offer. Inside its stalactite-like crystal glass mimbar that is not made in the shape of the regular semi-circle but rather a rectangle, strikes out in a rather plain interior of the conical mosque.

Tayibat Masjid Tayibat Masjid, also known as Al-Tayibat City Museum for International Civilization, is actually a privately-owned institution. Its exterior looks like a grand mosque, complete with two minarets and classic Hijazi elements. However, inside tells a different story. Its interior is a well-maintained space comprising wide rooms and halls that host different sculptures / miniatures of old Arab cities. Those with any interest in history will be awestruck by this mosque’s beauty and design. Carrying typical elements of Hijazi architecture this remarkable mosque is the perfect tribute to Jeddah’s rich Islamic past. What is remarkable in this mosque is that it has managed to transform raw, earthly materials into compositions so powerful they evoke something beyond amazing. The intricate latticework on the windows, elegant relief work on the walls and the variegated dome are unparalleled by any other mosque in Jeddah.
