Tayside Powerboats is a recognised RYA Training Centre. All practical courses are held on the Tay Estuary at Broughty Ferry.

Tayside Powerboats is led by Principal and Lead Instructor (Graham Wells). Graham has over 20 years’ experience in Powerboating, and is also an Advanced Diver, Open Water Instructor.

Our office at Marybank Lane Dundee has full classroom facilities as well as a Humber Assault, rigid hull inflatable boat powered by a 60 horsepower Yamaha engine.

All our courses follow the RYA syllabus and are run over a Saturday & Sunday.

We employ over 30 people in the peak season in a variety of different roles. Our main recruitment takes place at the start of the year but we recruit throughout the season so whichever role you're interested in then now's the time to apply!

admin /office

Admin skills, great organisation and an understanding of housekeeping are all essential. It's a tough, demanding job with lots of responsbility.

We employ up to 5 people in our busy Waterfront Café. All roles are customer facing, a friendly demeanor is a huge plus and if you can bake a brownie with your eyes closed then even better!

beach assistant

A great opportunity for young workers to get their foot in the door. Responsible for looking after the kit, hiring equipment and issuing wetsuits. A love of neoprene is an advantage!

cleaning staff

Have you got the eye for detail that wows customers when they walk through the door? Fast paced and seriously hard work, stamina and great orgasnisation are essential.

work placement scheme

Open to anyone looking for an entrance into the industry our paid work placement scheme has seen past graduates move on to management and chief instructor roles throughout the world. The amount of knowledge, experience and confidence you will gain will put you light years ahead of your peers and you won't look back.

Our scheme runs from May-September, it's full on and you'll be expected to work hard but you'll get out exactly as much as you put in and finish with a National Governing Body instructional qualification and a job for the summer.

We are based in the beautiful town of Dunoon on the Cowal Peninsula, the doorway to Argyll.  It’s incredible to think that we are only 1 hour from Glasgow with a hop, skip and a jump across the Clyde on the ferry. Here you are surrounded by wilderness, adventure and phenomenal scenery, which sets the scene for what we can offer you.

The Clyde’s most amazing landmarks and beautiful islands are all within easy reach in our powerboat tours (link to tours page) that depart from the Holy Loch Marina, including Bute and the Cumbraes, the famous Sugar Ship Wreck, stunning lighthouses and that scenery! Let’s not forget the wildlife….keep your eyes peeled for porpoise, seals, birds of prey, and even the odd whale!

We also offer some of the best Scottish wreck and scenic diving with a massive variety of all-year-round sites for all experiences throughout the Firth of Clyde. The Starfish Enterprise

The Starfish Enerprise boldly goes where no boat has gone before!

She is a Redbay Stormforce 7.4m RHIB catering for up to 10 persons on board or up to 8 divers. She is fully coded to meet the MCA requirements for category 3 Restricted (up to 20nm from a safe haven in favourable conditions in daylight, and up to 5nm at night). 

She is kitted out with a new rigid dive ladder, tea & coffee facilities, a portable toilet and a seating/dive rack arrangement similar to those on most hard boats, making even the longest of journeys much more comfortable for all onboard.

5 day special extended pro commercial advanced powerboat course + mca exam plus extra shorebased theory tuition, night exercises + mock practical & theory exam ®.

If you need to be able operate RIBs or power-driven vessels up to 24 metres load-line length, with up to 12 passengers + crew in a non-private (commercial) environment, you will need the RYA/MCA Advanced PowerBoat Certificate of Competence, and your employer will require evidence of the relevant certificates.

This Specially-Designed 5-Day Advanced Day & Night Course is designed to go above and beyond the standard short 2 day / 1 night course, with the new-style centrally-registered Photo-I.D. licence-card certificate. obtain a Commercial Endorsement , you need to undertake the RYA/MCA Certificate of Competence Exam with an Independent Examiner immediately after the course.  You can do the RYA Advanced Power Boat Course without the RYA/MCA Exam, if you do not want the additional Certifcate of Competence.

To undertake only the 5-Day RYA Advanced Power Boat Course , you should be competent to the standard of Intermediate PowerBoat (certificate not required), with navigation and chartwork ability to the level of RYA Coastal/Yachtmaster Shorebased.   To undertake the full RYA/MCA Examination after the RYA Advanced course you should have 2 years' relevant experience including night pilotage. As a guide: 20 days seatime, 2 days as skipper, 400 miles & 12 night-hours.   You also require a VHF Radio Licence and acceptable First Aid.    The Course will take place over 5 days, and includes at least 2/3 night exercises.   The RYA/MCA Exam, will take place from the afternoon of the last day and go through until late-on (darkness).
