Despite her status as the largest superyacht ever built at a British yard, Vava II’s owner-inspired exterior styling by Redman Whiteley Dixon is not only beautiful but makes the yacht look balanced and sleek.
She’s mainly a yacht of straight lines – the plumb bow, the angle of the superstructure and transom aft to the water, the vertical windows forward – but the sudden kinks of the top deck are a devilish touch.
The interior is by Rémi Tessier. The yacht, refitted at Amels in 2015, has been a regular in cruising hotspots around the world – and she spent the summer of 2016 cruising the Mediterranean.

“Conceived as a ‘world travelling yacht’, Vava II has exceeded expectations in her extended travels to remote locations and such geographically diverse places as the Indian Ocean islands, Indonesia, Alaska, Polynesia, Patagonia and Antarctica, travelling more than 100,000 nautical miles in a little over four years since delivery,” says Captain Richard Bridge.
“The helicopter deck has been used extensively for the embarked Eurocopter AS350B3 for a mix of transfers, sightseeing, heli-skiing and fishing trips, as well as numerous scientific missions. It will shortly be strengthened to be able to operate the larger twin-engined EC 145 T2.
“The main-deck salon with its glass sliding wall opening to become a part of the main-deck aft pool area has proved extremely popular and gives an option of opening the whole indoor/outdoor area for events and parties.
“Another area that has been used extensively is the expansive beach club – adding a large additional deck space, as well as a platform from which to operate the selection of tenders on board.
“The tender garages themselves have doubled as logistics platforms when operating in remote areas such as the Antarctic peninsula and during scientific missions in the Indian Ocean.”

Despite the pandemic, the superyacht world continues to welcome new entries. These are the world’s biggest yachts by length.
Even in a pandemic, the size of the global superyacht fleet keeps on growing. The top 25 largest yachts in the world now total a combined 11,849 feet, with the smallest yacht on the list, Maryah , measuring a whopping 410 feet. Built by shipyards all over the world—from the Netherlands to the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Turkey, Greece and the United Kingdom, to name just a few—new launches and refits are delivered each year. The 2021 newcomers hail from Lürssen, Dream Ship Victory and Lloyd Werft. With many new gigayacht builds in the pipeline, the list will be much more competitive in the coming years. Here are the world’s top 25 yachts by size, from Maryah to Azzam.
25. ‘Maryah’ (410 feet, 1 inch), Neorion

This former Russian research vessel was originally launched by the Szczecinska yard in Poland. In 2010, it underwent a five-year rebuild at the Elefsis yard in Greece. The stodgy research vessel that went in reappeared in 2014 as a thoroughly modern custom-built superyacht. The UK-based H2 Yacht Design did both the interior and exterior, incorporating all the luxuries one would expect in a yacht this size. The swimming pool, spa, contemporary decor (including custom furniture, signature joinery, and bespoke details like fixtures and lighting), and generous interior space turned the ugly duckling into a swan. Maryah , which reaches a top speed of 18 knots powered by a twin azipods propulsion system, has accommodation for 54 guests.
24. ‘Octopus’ (414 feet), Lürssen

Originally built by Lürssen for Microsoft cofounder Paul Allen, eight-decked Octopus is the world’s largest expedition yacht. Allen kept all the luxurious features of a superyacht, but wanted Octopus to be able to set anchor at the ends of the earth for exploration. The Lürssen, delivered in 2003, has storage for two helicopters, seven tenders, a large SUV and an internal dock that extends through the hull holding two submersibles. A glass-bottomed observation lounge makes for spectacular viewing when cruising. The yacht has been involved in multiple exploration discoveries, aided by its onboard dive centre and hyperbaric chamber. Espen Øino drew the exterior, including a full-sized basketball court on the aft deck, while Jonathan Quinn Barnett did the interior. The yacht underwent a refit in 2019. It reaches a top end of 20 knots.
23. ‘Al Mirqab’ (436 feet, 4 inches), Kusch Yachts

Launched in 2008, Al Mirqab was built for Qatar’s former prime minister under the supervision of Kusch Yachts in the Peters Werft shipyard in Wewelsfleth, Germany. The Tim Heywood exterior includes a long, navy-blue hull with a white superstructure. The yacht’s diesel-electric propulsion involves an azimuth pod drive and gives the 436.4-footer a top end of 21 knots. Its interior by Andrew Winch won several awards, with images showing Arabic-influenced motifs on the marble floors of large social areas. The yacht’s centerpiece is a stunning, complicated floating staircase encircled by custom-made glass panels. Al Mirqab has staterooms for 36, and crew quarters for 45.
22. ‘Serene’ (439 feet, 3 inches), Fincantieri

Serene was Fincantieri ’s launch into the superyacht segment, and what a debut it was. The largest yacht ever launched in Italy when it was delivered in 2011 (surpassed three years later by Ocean Victory ), the Espen Øino seven-deck design features a long, sleek blue hull, crowned by a white superstructure. The somewhat racy curves serve as a nice counterpart to the more serious-looking sections of the yacht, which include cutouts along the main and upper decks to allow strong visibility from the saloon and staterooms. The curved balconies on three levels are a nice touch that work aesthetically—and practically for better views. The open stern area has a winter garden (enclosed glass house) that allows dining in all seasons. Serene also has two helipads and a hangar, a big swimming pool, and a tender garage large enough for a submarine. Pascale Reymond of Reymond Langton Design created the 43,056-square-foot interior for the Russian owner, though its details have remained closely guarded.
21. ‘Crescent’ (443 feet), Lürssen

Espen Øino’s dark hull and tiered superstructure was one of the most exciting launches of 2018. Custom-built Project Thunder, as it was called internally at Lürssen, features cut-outs along the hull sides that allow full ocean views from the saloon on the primary deck, as part of Crescent ’s distinctive curved superstructure. Its most noteworthy feature is the jaw-dropping bank of three-deck-high windows in the center of the yacht. This architectural feature serves as the centerpiece of a very compelling design. The yacht has accommodations for 18 guests in nine staterooms. Little is known about the François Zuretti-designed interior, other than Lürssen describes it as being “traditionally styled.” If it lives up to Crescent ’s brash exterior, the complete yacht promises to be an entirely groundbreaking design.
20. ‘Savarona’ (446 feet, 2 inches), Blohm+Voss
Blohm+Voss’s Savarona
Launched in 1931, Savarona was built for American heiress Emily Roebling Cadwallader. The yacht was eventually acquired by Turkey to be the presidential yacht of Kemal Atatürk, founder of modern Turkey. Jane’s Fighting Ships described the yacht in 1949 as “probably the most sumptuously fitted yacht afloat.” Savarona was later converted to a training ship for the Turkish Navy and, in 1978, destroyed by fire. The yacht laid in tatters for 10 years. A Turkish businessman spent around $45 million refurbishing Savarona , commissioning Donald Starkey for the interior and replacing the original steam-turbine engines with modern Caterpillar diesels. The yacht’s interior was refitted again in 2013, once again becoming the official presidential yacht in 2014. Savarona features a swimming pool, Turkish bath, 280-foot grand staircase, a movie theater, and a library dedicated to Atatürk.
19: ‘Flying Fox’ (446 feet, 2 inches), Lürssen

Delivered jointly by Imperial and Lürssen in 2019, 446.2-foot Flying Fox is the largest yacht available on the charter market. Key features of the Espen Øino-designed exterior are a curvaceous dove-gray hull and a 3.7-foot swimming pool that runs athwartship on the main aft deck, the largest ever found on board a yacht. A two-decked spa also gives guests access to a cryosauna, hammam and relaxation room with a fold-down balcony at sea level. Packed to the rafters with the latest amenities, the yacht holds a diving center, decompression chamber and two helipads. Flying Fox is PYC compliant and can accommodate 25 guests.
18. ‘Rising Sun’ (454 feet, 1 inch), Lürssen

Designed by the original guru of yacht designers, Jon Bannenberg, Rising Sun was built by Lürssen for Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, and is currently owned by billionaire David Geffen. The yacht was delivered in 2004 and last refitted in 2011. Defined by banks of windows across the superstructure, Rising Sun has 86,000 square feet of living space in 82 rooms. It can accommodate 18 guests in nine cabins, with the capacity to carry up to 46 crew. The interior by Seccombe Design includes a gym, cinema, and wine cellar. The rear cockpit deck was designed as a basketball court. Geffen received a global media backlash in 2020 for his “tone deaf” social media posts that pictured himself on board his yacht during Covid-19 lockdown.
17. ‘Al Salamah’ (456 feet), Lürssen

When Lürssen launched Al Salamah in 1999, it was the third-largest yacht in the world. Its ranking at number 14 shows how much has changed in the last 20 years. Code-named MIPOS, or Mission Possible, the yacht was designed by Terence Disdale . The large imposing exterior is primarily protected space, with an upper deck exposed to the elements. Al Salamah has staterooms for 40 guests, including two owner suites, 11 VIP staterooms, and eight twin cabins. The yacht can carry up to 96 crew and has a top speed of 22 knots. Al Salamah was last refitted in 2009.
16. ‘Scheherazade’ (459 feet, 3 inches), Lürssen

The owner of 459.3-feet Lürssen-built Scheherazade (formerly known as Project Lightning) finally took delivery of the mega yacht in June 2020 after it was pictured during sea trials in November 2019. What can so far be deciphered from available photography includes two helipads, forward and aft, and a large beach club aft, as well as a reported seven-foot beam. Very few details have yet been released of the highly private vessel, including even the names of designers or naval architects involved with the build.
15: ‘Ocean Victory’ (459 feet, 3 inches), Fincantieri

The largest motoryacht ever built in Italy, Fincantieri’s Ocean Victory was delivered to its owner in 2014. The seven-deck exterior by Espen Øino includes two helideck platforms and a hangar belowdecks, as well as exceptional outdoor social areas, and a floodable tender dock. Ocean Victory has accommodations for 28 guests as well as quarters for 56 crew. Ocean Victory also has six pools, a 3,300-square-foot spa, and an underwater observation room. The interior by Alberto Pinto remains a secret.
14: ‘Solaris’ (459 feet, 3 inches), Lloyd Werft

The 476-foot Solaris is one of the largest yachts to deliver in 2021, and yet still little is known about it. The highly private, vast explorer is built by German shipyard Lloyd Werft and undertook sea trials in the North Sea. The eight-deck exterior is by Australian designer Marc Newson and features a displacement steel hull with bulbous bow and steel superstructure with teak decks. Reportedly owned by Roman Abramovich, it houses a large helipad, sun deck and spacious beach club aft. Lloyd Werft built the Russian billionaire’s previous explorer yacht Luna , which he reportedly sold for $360 million to his close friend Farkhad Akhmedov in 2014.
13. ‘Yas’ (462 feet, 6 inches), Abu Dhabi Mar

As a converted yacht, Yas is one of the most interesting vessels on this list. The dolphin-like exterior was originally a former Dutch Navy frigate that launched in 1978 and eventually sold to the navy of the United Arab Emirates, where it was renamed Al Emirat . The yacht underwent its dramatic conversion in a facility in Abu Dhabi’s main port, emerging as a gleaming superyacht in 2011, with one of the most interesting profiles on the water. It was eventually delivered four years later. The design by the Paris-based Pierrejean Vision, defined by massive glass surfaces, can accommodate 60 guests and 58 crew members. Mated to a steel hull, the superstructure is the largest composite edifice ever built. Yas is capable of a 26-knot top speed and was last refitted in 2019.
12. ‘Dream Symphony’ (462 feet, 6 inches), Dream Ship Victory

Sailing yacht Dream Symphony is a magnificent 462.7-foot schooner built by the Turkish shipyard Dream Ship Victory. When delivered in 2021, she will become the largest private sailing yacht in the world, knocking current largest sailing yacht, Black Pearl , off the podium. Featuring naval architecture by Dykstra Naval Architects and an exterior and interior by Ken Freivokh, she reunites the same team who were behind the legendary Maltese Falcon ’s ground-breaking Falcon dynarig. Dream Symphony’s hull is being built in wood – glued and laminated using the latest epoxy and composite techniques. Wood, carbon and stainless-steel run throughout the contemporary interior, while the rig includes Hoyt booms for maximum control. Dream Symphony boasts a fully private owner’s duplex, with master suite, salon, and office at main deck level, and a further spa, gym and treatment rooms on the lower deck. A sheltered open deck between the owner’s facilities and the guest deck house can be closed off to bad weather, creating concealed channels for full protection. And when the sun is shining, a double-height glass swimming pool features a rising floor that can doubles up as a touch-and-go helipad or dancefloor.
11. ‘Nord’ (466 feet), Lürssen

Nord (Project Opus) has been a long time coming. She was announced in 2015 but didn’t hit the water until November 2020 when she conducted sea trials in the Baltic Sea. Delivered in 2017, the futuristic look of sailing yacht A includes smooth, silver-metallic surfaces and windows that look nearly invisible, three composite masts that bend slightly, and a deck hidden by high bulwarks. The Philippe Starck-design is a wild fantasy yacht of the future. The 468-foot sailing yacht is a technical victory for German yard Nobiskrug , which developed composite fashion plates to create the unusual shapes, without any compromises in strength or fluidity. It has the tallest freestanding composite masts on any sailing vessel, a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system and state-of-the-art navigation systems. The boat also reportedly has an underwater viewing platform in the keel. “Sailing yacht A is undoubtedly one of the most visionary projects Nobiskrug has ever been involved in,” said Holger Kahl, the firm’s then managing director. Starck’s interior remains a secret. The yard reports the yacht has a top speed of 21 knots. She remains today the world’s largest sailing yacht three years after her launch.
9. ‘El Mahrousa’ (478 feet, 1 inch), Samuda Brothers

El Mahrousa , which means “the protected” in Arabic, is currently Egypt’s presidential yacht, though the 478.1-footer has a separate history as that country’s royal yacht. The London-based Samuda Brothers began the build in 1863, and it was launched in 1865. It was originally built for the Ottoman governor of Egypt, Khedive Ismail, and later carried three Egyptian kings into exile. The yacht was also at the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869. The world’s oldest superyacht features external design by the British naval architect Sir Oliver Lang, and has had multiple modifications over the years, including a lengthening by 40 feet in 1872 and another 17 feet in 1905. During the second refit, the owners replaced its paddle-wheel engines with turbine-driven propellers. The yacht, in care of the Egyptian Navy, occasionally goes to sea for a day or two. In 2015, it was used to inaugurate the new Suez Canal.
8. ‘Prince Abdulaziz’ (482 feet, 3 inches), Helsingør Værft

This custom yacht, launched by Helsingør Værft in Denmark in 1984, was most recently refitted in 2005. The 5,200-tonne Prince Abdulaziz is one of the Saudi Royal family’s yachts, its first owner being King Fahd. Designed by Maierform, the yacht was the longest and tallest in the world at the time of its launch. At 482.3-feet, Prince Abdulaziz held the title for 22 years until Dubai launched in 2006. The late David Nightingale Hicks, known for his use of bright colors, was the interior designer. The lobby is said to be a replica of the Titanic . Last refitted in 2005, it is rumored to be carrying surface-to-air missiles, though that may be an urban legend.
7. ‘A+’ (483 feet, 1 inch), Lürssen

Very little is known about A+ (formerly Topaz) , which was launched by Lürssen in 2012, other than it is the fourth-largest yacht ever built by the German shipyard. Tim Heywood Designs did the exterior, which features helipads on the foredeck and amidships on an upper deck. A lower aft deck includes a swimming pool. The German yard has not released any images of the Terence Disdale interior. Reported to be owned by Manchester City Football Club owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahnan – Emirati royalty and deputy prime minister of the UAE – A+ has a top speed of 22 knots, and can carry 62 guests and up to 79 crew.
6. ‘Al Saïd’ (508 feet, 5 inches), Lürssen

Another 500-plus-foot yacht from Lürssen, the original Project Sunflower gained its official name of Al Saïd following its launch in 2016. Espen Øino’s exterior is akin to a classic cruise liner, complete with the twin exhaust stacks in the center of the superstructure. Owned by the Sultan of Oman, six-decked Al Saïd can carry 154 crew and, according to some sources, 70 guests. Lürssen says Al Saïd has a top speed of 22 knots. The London-based Redman Whiteley Dixon studio designed the interior, which includes a concert hall that can hold a 50-piece orchestra.

The 2016 launch of Dilbar gave Lürssen the distinction of not only building the longest yacht ever ( Azzam ), but also the largest in terms of volume. Espen Øino designed the exterior, creating a full-bodied superstructure of long, flowing decks, along with two helicopter pads. Dilbar also has an 82-foot swimming pool that can hold an incredible 6357-cubic-feet of water, and according to Lürssen, is the world’s longest on a yacht. The interior by Winch Design is defined by its “rare and exclusive luxury materials,” says the builder, declining to go into detail. Lürssen added that the world’s largest motor yacht was one of the most complex and challenging yachts ever built, because of its dimensions and technology. Despite Dilbar ’s volume, the designers did a masterful job making the yacht look relatively svelte, with no obvious bulges along the length of the light ivory and bronze-accented hull. In June 2020, Dilbar returned to Lürssen for a significant refit, the details of which are yet to be revealed.
4. ‘Dubai’ (531 feet, 5 inches), Platinum Yachts

This Andrew Winch design was originally commissioned for Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei as a joint project between Blohm+Voss and Lürssen, before it was halted in 1998 with just a bare hull and skeletal superstructure. The hull was sold to the government of Dubai, and, under the direction of the country’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, work on the 531.5-footer began again, though this time by Platinum Yachts. Dubai delivered in 2006 and is now the sheikh’s royal yacht, with accommodations for 24 guests and quarters for 88 crew. The seven-decked yacht has an impressive 70-foot-wide atrium, landing pad for a Black Hawk helicopter, submarine garage, disco, and cinema. Full certification was obtained from Lloyd’s Register in October 2006, and it can reach a top speed of 26 knots.
3. ‘Eclipse’ (533 feet, 1 inch), Blohm+Voss

Stately Eclipse , the 533.1-foot yacht delivered to billionaire Roman Abramovich, took five years to design and build. When it left the Blohm+Voss shipyard in Hamburg in 2010, it was the world’s largest yacht. The interior has 17 staterooms and a palatial master suite, with the capacity to carry 85 crew. Both the interior and exterior are designed by Terence Disdale. A proportional profile is defined by tiered decks that sweep upward and bend ever so slightly at the aft ends. Eclipse has a 185-foot-long owner’s deck and, at the time of its launch, the largest swimming pool on any superyacht (the bottom raises and converts to a dance floor). Other features reflecting its stature: the capacity to hold three helicopters, including one in its belowdecks hangar, a sophisticated stabilization system, six tenders, and an enormous spa, gym, and beach club. Hybrid diesel-electric engines are connected to Azipod drives that give Eclipse a top-end speed of 21 knots, with a range of 6,000 nautical miles.
2. ‘Fulk Al Salamah’ (538 feet, 1 inch), Mariotti Yachts

Little information has ever been released about the world’s second-longest superyacht, custom-built Fulk Al Salamah , and it has been shrouded in mystery since first announced in 2014. Even the overall length of 538.1 feet has been estimated from AIS data. However, built and delivered by Italian builder Mariotti Yachts in their Genoa shipyard in 2016, the imposing vessel is believed to be owned by the Omani royal family. Exterior design is by Studio de Jorio, and it is considered by some to resemble more of a support vessel than a superyacht. Nonetheless, aerial photography shows an impressively large helideck, raked masts and a bathing platform.

Unfortunately, Lürssen could never really boast about Azzam after its launch in 2013 because of the owner’s penchant for privacy. Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi directed a team of designers and engineers who started with the bare concept, worked through the technical challenges of what might be the most complex superyacht ever, and finished with an unusually large vessel that can top the 30-knot mark. Nauta Yacht’s exterior features a long, sleek forward area, with well-proportioned tiers moving up to the skydeck. Lürssen describes the interior by Christophe Leoni as “sophisticated, with luxurious decor inspired by the Empire style of the early 19th century.” Its gas turbines, connected to water jets, push Azzam to more than 30 knots, giving it the ability to operate at high speed in shallow waters. She also boasts an impressive build time for a yacht of her size, with construction taking only three years after one year of engineering. Azzam was last refit in 2020 at MB92 in Barcelona.

As we round 2023, the size of the global superyacht fleet keeps on growing. The top 25 largest yachts in the world now total a combined 11,849 feet, with the smallest yacht on the list, Koru , measuring a whopping 417 feet. Built by shipyards all over the world—from the Netherlands to the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Turkey, Greece and the United Kingdom—new launches and refits are delivered each year. The latest newcomers to make the list hail from Lürssen, Oceanco and Karmarine. With many new gigayacht builds in the pipeline, the list promises to be even more competitive in the coming years. Here are the world’s top 25 yachts by size, from Koru to Azzam.
Azzam (592 feet, 6 inches), Lürssen

Lürssen’s newest entry on the list, Blue , which delivered to its Middle Eastern owner in July 2022, may rank at number five out of the world’s largest yachts, but it’s diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system goes a long way to minimize emissions. The yacht also features an electric Azimuth pod drive that can be used independently or in conjunction with the twin propeller shafts. There is a waste-water treatment system and an advanced exhaust treatment system to help reduce NOx levels, as well as cut down on vibration and noise pollution. Interior and exterior design is by Terence Disdale, Blue is defined in profile by a raked bow with a helipad, an aft deck pool and twin balconies forward either side of the owner’s full-beam suite. There is a second, smaller helipad aft. The British designer has reportedly penned a feminine and elegant interior, though no images have yet been released.
Dilbar (511 feet, 8 inches), Lürssen

Originally built by Japan’s Oshima Shipbuilding in 1982, the semisubmersible heavy lift ship was used for decades by DYT Yacht Transport as float-on yacht carrier. In 2022, the vessel underwent a private conversion at Karmarine shipyard in Turkey, turning it into a luxury, though highly unusual, yacht named OK . Modifications include a matte-black paint job, gold-tinted glazing and teak decking. The vessel’s 328-foot submersible aft deck—a feature that first attracted her new owner, who uses OK to transport their 150-foot ketch—is now covered in a carpet of artificial grass. A 40-tonne crane allows for the safe and easy launch and retrieval of a vast range of toys, including a seaplane. The interior by Bozca Design is reported to include accommodation for 20 guests, a botanical garden and a crazy Willy Wonka-inspired glass elevator that operates outside of the yacht’s superstructure.

The dolphin-like exterior was originally a former Dutch Navy frigate that launched in 1978 and eventually sold to the navy of the United Arab Emirates, where it was renamed Al Emirat . The yacht underwent its dramatic conversion in a facility in Abu Dhabi’s main port, emerging as a gleaming superyacht in 2011, with one of the most interesting profiles on the water. It was eventually delivered four years later. Reportedly owned by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed al Nahyan, half-brother of the president of the UAE, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the design by Paris-based Pierrejean Vision is defined by massive glass surfaces. Yas can accommodate 60 guests and 58 crew members. Mated to a steel hull, the superstructure is the largest composite edifice ever built.
Solaris (459 feet, 3 inches), Lloyd Werft
Owned by Russian businessman Roman Abramovich, the 476-foot Solaris was one of the largest yachts to deliver in 2021. Last refit in 2022 at MB92 in Barcelona, the vast, highly private explorer is built by German shipyard Lloyd Werft, and features a displacement steel hull with bulbous bow and steel superstructure with teak decks. The eight-deck exterior by Australian designer Marc Newson houses a large helipad, sundeck, spacious beach club aft and 21,527 sq. ft. of glass, the largest panes to ever be built into a yacht. Lloyd Werft also built the Russian billionaire’s previous explorer yacht Luna , which he reportedly sold for $360 million to his close friend Farkhad Akhmedov in 2014.
Ocean Victory (459 feet, 3 inches), Fincantieri
The largest motoryacht ever built in Italy, Fincantieri’s Ocean Victory was delivered to its owner, Russian billionaire Viktor Rashnikov, in 2014. The seven-deck exterior by Espen Øino includes two helideck platforms and a hangar belowdecks, as well as exceptional outdoor social areas and a floodable tender dock. Ocean Victory has accommodations for 28 guests as well as quarters for 56 crew. Ocean Victory also has six pools, a 3,300-square-foot spa, and an underwater observation room. The interior by Alberto Pinto remains a secret, aside from the yacht’s six pools, a 3,300-square-foot spa and an underwater observation room.
Scheherazade (459 feet, 3 inches), Lürssen
The 459.3-foot, Lürssen-built Scheherazade (formerly known as Project Lightning) was delivered in June 2020. Two helipads, forward and aft, and a large beach club aft are visible from aerial photographs, but aside from the yacht’s reported seven-foot beam further details have not yet been released of the highly private vessel, including the names of designers or naval architects involved with the build. The reason may lie with the yacht’s unofficial owner, believed to be Russian president Vladimir Putin. In May 2022, Italian authorities froze Scheherazade in the port of Marina di Carrara following an investigation conducted by Italian financial police who found the ship’s beneficial owner had “significant economic and business ties” to high-ranking Russian government officials, though the results of the investigation to date remain inconclusive.
Al Salamah (456 feet), Lürssen
When Lürssen launched Al Salamah in 1999, it was the third-largest yacht in the world. Its number 18 ranking shows how much has changed in the last 20 years. Code-named MIPOS, or Mission Possible, the yacht was designed by Terence Disdale . Originally owned by Saudi Arabian Crown Prince, Sultan bin Abdulaziz, in 2013 the yacht was put up for sale for $280 million, before reportedly given to Bahraini Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa as a gift. The large imposing exterior is primarily protected space, with an upper deck exposed to the elements. Al Salamah has staterooms for 40 guests, including two owner suites, 11 VIP staterooms and eight twin cabins. The yacht can carry up to 96 crew and has a top speed of 22 knots. Al Salamah was last refitted in 2009.
Rising Sun (454 feet, 1 inch), Lürssen
Designed by the original guru of yacht designers, Jon Bannenberg, Rising Sun was built by Lürssen for Oracle CEO Larry Ellison and is currently owned by billionaire David Geffen, who reportedly paid $590 million for the yacht. The yacht comes with a gym, grand piano, multiple swimming pools, a beauty salon, and a spa with a sauna. Delivered in 2004, and last refit in 2011, the yacht’s exterior is defined by banks of windows across the superstructure. Rising Sun has 86,000 square feet of living space in 82 rooms. It can accommodate 18 guests in nine cabins, with the capacity to carry up to 46 crew. The interior by Seccombe Design includes a gym, cinema and wine cellar. The rear cockpit deck was designed as a basketball court. Geffen received global media backlash in 2020 for his “tone deaf” social-media posts that pictured himself on board his yacht during Covid-19 lockdown.
Flying Fox (446 feet, 2 inches), Lürssen
The 446.2-foot Flying Fox is arguably the most high-profile yacht on this list, primarily for being the largest yacht available on the charter market, as well as being singled out as “blocked property” by US authorities in 2022 due to its reported ownership by sanctioned Russian oligarch Dmitry Kamenshchik. Delivered jointly by Imperial and Lürssen in 2019, 446.2-foot Flying Fox is the largest yacht available on the charter market. Key features of the Espen Øino-designed exterior are a curvaceous dove-gray hull and a 3.7-foot swimming pool that runs athwartship on the main aft deck, the largest ever found on board a yacht. A two-decked spa also gives guests access to a cryosauna, hammam and relaxation room with a fold-down balcony at sea level. Packed to the rafters with the latest amenities, the yacht holds a diving center, decompression chamber and two helipads. Flying Fox is PYC compliant and can accommodate 25 guests.
Savarona (446 feet, 2 inches), Blohm+Voss
Launched in 1931, Savarona was built for American heiress Emily Roebling Cadwalader, and is easily identified by its two mustard-colored funnels. The yacht was eventually acquired by Turkey to be the presidential yacht of Kemal Atatürk, founder of modern Turkey. Jane’s Fighting Ships described the yacht in 1949 as “probably the most sumptuously fitted yacht afloat.” Savarona was later converted to a training ship for the Turkish Navy and, in 1978, destroyed by fire. The yacht laid in tatters for 10 years. A Turkish businessman spent around $45 million refurbishing Savarona , commissioning Donald Starkey for the interior and replacing the original steam-turbine engines with modern Caterpillar diesels. Savarona became Turkey’s official presidential yacht again in 2014, accommodating up to 34 guests in 17 suits, and carrying up to 48 crew. Amenities include a swimming pool, Turkish bath, 280-foot grand staircase, a movie theater and a library dedicated to Atatürk.
Crescent (443 feet), Lürssen
Last refit in 2021, Espen Øino’s dark hull and tiered superstructure was one of the most exciting launches of 2018. Called Project Thunder internally at Lürssen, the custom-built yacht features cutouts along the hull sides that allow full ocean views from the saloon on the primary deck, as part of Crescent ’s distinctive curved superstructure. Its most noteworthy feature is the jaw-dropping bank of three-deck-high windows in the center of the yacht. This architectural feature serves as the centerpiece of a very compelling design. The yacht has accommodations for 18 guests in nine staterooms. Little is known about the François Zuretti-designed interior, other than Lürssen describes it as being “traditionally styled.” If it lives up to Crescent ’s brash exterior, the complete yacht promises to be an entirely groundbreaking design. In March 2022, Crescent was detained by Spain as property of Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin, who is sanctioned in connection with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Serene (439 feet, 3 inches), Fincantieri
Serene is the yacht that launched Fincantieri into the superyacht segment, and what a debut it was. The largest yacht ever launched in Italy when it was delivered in 2011 (surpassed three years later by Ocean Victory ), the Espen Øino seven-deck design features a long, sleek blue hull crowned by a white superstructure. Pascale Reymond of Reymond Langton Design created the 43,056-square-foot interior for the Russian owner, which includes a double height atrium with a piano lounge at the top and a vast open-plan main salon below. Sunken LEDs and bright pink and purple neon lights create a modern party vibe in the social areas, which contrast with the elaborate yet more traditional guest suites. A spiral staircase with intricate metal banisters soars through the heart of the yacht. The open stern area has a winter garden (enclosed glasshouse) that allows dining in all seasons. Serene also has two helipads and a hangar, a big swimming pool and a tender garage large enough for a submarine. Pascale Reymond of Reymond Langton Design created the 43,056-square-foot interior for the Russian owner, though its details have remained closely guarded.
Al Mirqab (436 feet, 4 inches), Kusch Yachts
Al Mirqab was a yacht before its time. Launched in 2008, the yacht’s diesel-electric propulsion involves an azimuth pod drive and gives the 436.4-footer a top end of 21 knots. With 36 staterooms, and crew quarters for 45, it was built for Qatar’s former prime minister under the supervision of Kusch Yachts in the Peters Werft shipyard in Wewelsfleth, Germany. The Tim Heywood exterior includes a long, navy-blue hull with a white superstructure. The yacht’s diesel-electric propulsion involves an azimuth pod drive and gives the 436.4-footer a top end of 21 knots. Its interior by Andrew Winch won several awards, with images showing Arabic-influenced motifs on the marble floors of large social areas. The yacht’s centerpiece is a stunning, complicated floating staircase encircled by custom-made glass panels. Al Mirqab has staterooms for 36, and crew quarters for 45.
Koru (417 Feet), Oceanco
Only just making the cut on this list, Jeff Bezos’ new 417-foot sailing yacht, Koru , was the subject of worldwide controversy even before its 2023 delivery. Built by Dutch shipyard Oceanco and reportedly costing $450 million, the Amazon founder’s first vessel is the tallest sailing yacht in the world with masts that measure over 230 feet tall, the same height as the Great Pyramid of Giza. It’s so tall, in fact, that Bezos petitioned the Dutch city of Rotterdam to temporarily dismantle the Koningshaven Bridge, a 95-year-old landmark, to allow his yacht to pass under. His request was denied, and the yacht was instead partially towed through Rotterdam without its mast. The towering design also makes it unsafe to land a helicopter onboard, prompting Bezos to commission his second yacht, the 246-foot custom support yacht Wingman . Delivered in early 2023, and featuring a helipad, Wingman is Damen’s largest support vessel to date. No details have yet been released about Koru ’s interior or exterior design, including who penned the design.

World's largest yacht transporter delivers historic luxury boat to Cornwall
The 700-foot ship capable of carrying up to 36 superyachts delivered a very special old motor boat

A historic luxury boat has arrived in Cornwall after catching a lift on the world's largest yacht transporter. Built in 1936, the 127ft motor yacht Amazone, which was used during the Dunkirk evacuation Operation Dynamo in 1940, has been delivered to Pendennis Shipyard in Falmouth, where it will undergo a refit.
However, this was an Amazone delivery with a difference, making the journey from France inside the huge, purpose-built Yacht Servant. Becoming the world's largest yacht transporter when it was launched in 2022, the 700ft ship is capable of carrying up to 36 superyachts.
Leaving Le Harve in France on Sunday (February 11) Yacht Servant arrived in Falmouth the following afternoon. After being postponed for a day, the 88-year-old luxury yacht Amazone was towed out of the transporter ship in the early hours of yesterday (Wednesday, February 14).
Yacht Servant is a semi-submersible vessel, capable of taking on ballast water until the main deck is flooded. Yachts can then be floated in or out from the stern of the ship. With the other vessels in her load securely fastened, Amazone was carefully towed out of Yacht Servant at first light before being taken around the docks to Pendennis Shipyard.
Put up for sale eight years ago for £1.5 million by its then-owner architect Mireille Huet, Amazone hit the headlines when it was widely reported in the press that the classic motor boat had originally been commissioned by wartime prime minister Winston Churchill. In fact, the luxury yacht was originally built for Commander Léon Andrien Hemeleers-Shenley of the Belgium Embassy by Thornycroft Shipyard in Southampton.

The story goes that Amazone was paid for by the Commander's wife, Una, and three years after being built, was laid up in Thornycroft Shipyard while its ownership was disputed between the couple. It stayed in Southampton until it was commandeered by the Admiralty, at Churchill's disposal, for Operation Dynamo in 1940.
Known as the Miracle of Dunkirk, the evacuation of Allied soldiers from France saw nearly 340,000 men rescued over the course of eight days. As the German Army advanced, a fleet of over 800 boats including Amazone rescued soldiers from France’s beaches, taking them back to the safety of England.
Amazone is reported to have made at least three trips across the English Channel, bringing almost 550 troops back to the UK. It is believed that the yacht is one of just two surviving small barges to have been part of the effort.
Following the war, Amazone was renamed My Evangeline and Welsh Liberty , when it was part of a fleet of luxury charter yachts in Wales. Now, having been safely delivered under her original name, it is hoped that a spell of TLC at Pendennis Shipyard in Falmouth could see Amazone return to her former glory.

The 700-foot Yacht Servant was spotted on the horizon passing St Anthony's Lighthouse in the afternoon of Monday, February 12.
The yacht transporter is capable of carrying up to 36 vessels.
For this journey, it was travelling relatively light, with only four boats on board.
It was the first time that Yacht Servant has visited Falmouth.
The ship is very wide, with a beam of 46 metres.
The largest of its kind, Yacht Servant has 6,300 square meters of deck space.
As the ship approached the harbour, it attracted a lot of attention.
Heading for Falmouth Docks, the yacht transporter passed Pendennis Shipyard, the intended destination for Amazone .
The weather could not have been better for the arrival of the huge ship.

Looking from behind, it was just possible to catch a glimpse of the vessels on board.

With its gate open at the stern, it was possible to get a first look at Amazone on Tuesday, February 13.
The 1936 motor yacht was dwarfed by its surroundings.
The 'float out' operation had been due to take place on the morning of Tuesday, February 13, but ended up being postponed.
It was clear to see that Amazone was not in great condition.
In the darkness of Wednesday morning, February 14, ballast water is taken on causing Yacht Servant to sink lower, letting water flood the main deck.
This technique of floating boats in and out of the main deck means there is no need for cranes or dry docks.
In the first light of the day, Amazone is carefully towed out of Yacht Servant .
Once clear of the huge ship, the 88-year-old motor yacht was towed away towards the shipyard.
Amazone takes one last look at Yacht Servant after catching a ride from France.
The 127-foot yacht has seen better days.
Within no time at all, Amazone reaches Pendennis Shipyard, which specialises in superyacht refits.
Hopefully, when Amazone reappears from the shipyard she will be in finer form

Britain’s largest luxury yacht maker is steering its way back to full production after having gone into lockdown – and is now putting its latest superyacht though its paces in the sea off Plymouth.
The super-spacious Princess X95 is described by Plymouth’s Princess Yachts as “boldly re-writing the rules of yacht design” and is expected to set a new benchmark for superyacht quality and design.
Princess Yachts said the boat is the product of an “aggressive investment strategy”, and was made possible because of the company’s record financial position and full order book.
Princess Yachts began returning to production in early May 2020, and is now looking to fulfil is order book for 2020 and 2021 after bringing back workers from furlough following the eight-week “controlled shut-down” at its city plants, including at Stonehouse and Devonport.
With 80% of staff now back at their stations, and stringent safety measures in place, the company is accelerating production and the long-awaited X95, first revealed in 2018, is now undergoing extensive sea trials.
The vessel is the product of fresh investment into the latest technology, innovation, quality and design excellence, the company said, and is “another bold new design from a company moving forward at pace, breaking down boundaries and shattering expectations”.
Designed with what Princess Yachts calls an “open concept” in mind, the X95 is the first model in the company’s new X Class.
The vessel features large, adaptable spaces that can be used and formatted in numerous ways, and X95’s interior design allows the owner to define each journey around guests’ preferences such as comfortable and relaxing, high levels of privacy, or entertaining and hosting.
Antony Sheriff, executive chairman at Princess Yachts, said: “X95 is another bold new concept for Princess Yachts. Borne from our aggressive investment strategy into new technology and world-class design, the X Class creates an entirely new segment, representing another significant step in our new product programme. We continue to push the boundaries of yacht design and build a brand leadership position in the luxury yacht market.”
The X95 features a unique concept for the flybridge and main deck interior, both of which cover almost the full length of the yacht, creating the Super Flybridge – the X Class’s defining characteristic.
The layout provides 10% more outdoor space and 40% more indoor space than a traditional motor yacht.
This leap forward in space and versatility mirrors recent innovations from luxury automotive brands who have developed crossover models.
Princess’ long-standing naval architect Bernard Olesinski worked on the design in partnership with Italian design house Pininfarina to create a vessel for people who wish to spend significant time aboard to explore cruising grounds further afield.
The lengthening of the main deck to the bow has created an “unprecedented” space, extending to almost 18m (59ft). This large, open space, flooded with light by full height port and starboard glazing, can be configured in a traditional fashion with a sofa and coffee table area with a servery, integrated drinks refrigerator and icemaker, a private galley, and a master cabin with 270-degreer panoramic tinted, toughened glass windows.
A customer could also choose to configure the X95 by replacing the stateroom with a cinema lounge.
Alternatively, the X95 can offer a more informal layout, with a single large open space that encompasses a large saloon, a full width open-plan chef’s kitchen with a large centre island and breakfast bar, and a connected dining or recreation area with 270-degree views to port, starboard and the bow.

Upstairs on the flybridge is an enclosed and climate-controlled Sky Lounge, which also houses the pilothouse. Behind the Sky Lounge is an enormous rear flybridge area with a covered dining zone for eight, and a large flexible space for free-standing lounge furniture.
There is also a huge forward flybridge with a U-shaped seating area and a sunbathing area or spa bath further towards the bow.
The sundeck features a Naim Uniti Atom audio system with waterproof speakers, and the Sky Lounge houses a 4K UHD TV and a DVD Blu-ray system with Naim audio system, while electric blinds on all side-glazing control the levels of light for the optimum viewing experience.
In total, the Super Flybridge stretches almost 22m (72 ft), more than double the length of a typical flybridge on a yacht this size.
Andy Lawrence, head of design at Princess Yachts, said: “X95 takes spatial architecture on a yacht to a new level. With a large cockpit, rear flybridge, forward flybridge and foredeck areas, owners will have four large and unique outdoor environments on an X95.
“Combined with the spacious and flexible main deck space and the unique Sky Lounge, the X95 has a range of living spaces, indoor and outdoor, that dwarfs those of any other boat of its size.”

Below on the lower deck, there’s storage for a Jetski, along with crew quarters, bathroom and a mess to the rear.
In the centre is the Master Stateroom with large double bed, bedside tables, portside sofa, coffee table and en suite bathroom.
Additional port and starboard guest cabins can each be configured as two single beds or one double bed, both with en suite bathrooms. Towards the front lies the Forward Stateroom complete with large double bed, walk-in wardrobe and en suite bathroom.

Koru, the Māori word for ‘new beginnings’, is believed to be the world’s biggest sailing yacht. Costing a reported $500 million, the schooner-rigged sailing yacht was built in the Netherlands and will be followed by a 75-metre support vessel carrying relief supplies, a helicopter and crew accommodation.

The interior was designed by David Nightingale Hicks and it’s believed that the main lobby is a replica of the reception area of the Titanic. It cost a reported $184 million and includes a hospital and cinema.

Designed by award-winning superyacht designer Terence Disdale, Eclipse was built in Germany by renowned shipyard Blohm + Voss. When it was delivered in 2009, it was the biggest yacht in the world. It’s believed to have seventeen staterooms and what has been described as a ‘palatial master suite’, as well as one of the largest swimming pools ever built on a private yacht. At a reported cost of $500 million, Eclipse is equipped with a submarine, three landing boats and two helipads.

The world’s largest yacht was built by Lürssen in 2013. Costing a reported $600 million, Azzam’s luxurious interior, which includes a 29-metre long main salon, was designed by Christophe Leoni to evoke the Empire style of the nineteenth century and it can accommodate 36 guests and a crew of 80.

With an abundance of fantastic marinas around the UK to choose from, it’s difficult to know where to start on narrowing down the selection. We’ve picked out our top highlights from across the country, with a mix of both coastal and inland options. All the below boast an impressive five Gold Anchors as part of The Yacht Harbour Association audit scheme.
South of England
Brighton Marina, Brighton
Head to the UK’s largest marina to soak up the vibrancy of this eclectic city. With masses of entertainment, its ideal for families or groups and provides the perfect base for water sporting fun. Tour the south coast, venture further to visit the beautiful channel islands or even cross the channel to take in continental France.
Falmouth Marina, Falmouth
Set within one of the crown jewel counties of British maritime, this Premier Marina port is situated within one of the largest natural deep-water harbours. With excellent facilities and a stunning view of the surrounding Area of Natural Beauty, you can’t fail to find a better base for exploring the wonders of the Cornish coast.
North of England
Overwater Marina, Shropshire Union Canal

Located on the south side of Belfast Lough, you’ll be ideally poised for the Irish Sea cruising routes. The base is shared by the HM Coastguard's Marine Rescue Centre and the RNLI. This Quay Marinas location is well supplied with a friendly service and excellent facilities.
Carrickfergus Marina, Belfast

- The Palm Beach International Boat Show kicks off later this week.
- Eight megayachts are expected to be on display for would-be buyers and charter customers.
- These are the show's biggest yachts — and how many millions of dollars they are going for.
The Palm Beach International Boat Show — the yacht world's flashiest event stateside — is returning this year with over 800 boats for both deep-pocked potential owners and window shoppers to peruse.
While it's impossible to know what exactly will be on display until the show begins on Thursday, it's expected that eight megayachts — generally defined as ships over 60 meters long — will be docked at the show and at nearby marinas like the Rybovich Marina in the ritzy Florida town.
Some of these are for sale at eye-popping prices, but others are available to if in case you fancy living like a billionaire for a week or two this summer (and if you have six figures to spare on a vacation).
These are the eight biggest yachts that will be at the Palm Beach International Boat Show and nearby marinas, in size order.
Nero: 90.1 meters
Price: From $497,000 a week (charter) Standout features: Pizza ovens, beauty salon, massage room, resistance pool
Reportedly owned by Irish billionaire Denis O'Brien, Nero is modeled after J.P. Morgan's 1930s ship , and was built in 2007 and updated in 2021.
She now boasts a gym on her sundeck with multiple cardio machines and a beauty salon, and has an on-board beautician for manicure, pedicure, hair, and massage needs. There's also an upgraded movie theater, two new pizza ovens, and both a pool and a jacuzzi.
For those who want to go overboard, she has more than a dozen toys, including a waterslide, Jet Ski, and flyboard.
Victorious: 85 meters
Price: From $876,600 a week in the summer and $950,000 a week in the winter Standout features: Hammam (Turkish bath), wine cellar, wood-burning fireplace, children's playroom
Victorious brings a party vibe to the yacht show. With a beach club on board, a wine cellar, a cigar clubroom , multiple bars, and a lounge with a piano, the vessel is made for entertaining. Plus, there's a playroom and movie theater to entertain the kids.
For tamer charter clients, Victorious has a suite of wellness features such as a gym, massage room, beauty salon and hammam, or Turkish bath — perhaps a custom request of her owner, Turkish businessman Vural Ak.
She also boasts a treasure trove of water toys, including Jet Skis, jetsurfs, inflatable kayaks, and scuba equipment.
Casino Royale: 72 meters
Price: TBD Special Features: Infinity pool, helipad, private jacuzzi
Purchased and refitted by car dealer magnate John Staluppi last year, Casino Royale is the latest of his James Bond-inspired yachts (he's also owned an Octopussy and a Skyfall, among others).
Casino Royale has a helipad that turns into a dancefloor, an infinity pool, and a wellness center with a gym and sauna. The owner's cabin has its own deck, which features a private bar and jacuzzi.

Talisman C: 70.6 meters
Price: $60 million (or from $567,000 a week to charter) Special features: Massage and beauty room, private library
Likely the largest yacht for sale (not just charter) at the show, the Talisman C is a 2011 six-bedroom boat. The owner's cabin comes with an en suite bathroom, dressing room, private library, and crystal chandeliers.
Amenities include a gym, a beauty room, oversized jacuzzi, and a fully equipped bar. Her crew of 19 includes a trained masseuse, and the toy room comes equipped with a wakeboard, eFoil , and WaveRunners.
Joy: 70 meters
Price: From $650,000 a week Special features: Disco club, basketball court, onboard fitness instructor
Superyacht Joy testifies to the fact that owners want as many on-board experiences as they can get.
There's an expansive suite of fitness features, including a basketball court (don't shoot that hoop too hard!), a personal trainer on staff, boxing equipment, and a handful of machines. For post-workout winddowns, there's a spa with a steam room and onboard masseuse. And for entertainment, there's both an outdoor and indoor cinema, and a disco club.
Triumph: 65.4 meters
Price: From $707,600 a week in the summer and $650,000 a week in the winter Special features: Sauna, helipad, banana boat
This 2021 superyacht is named after Triumph motorcycles — a reported favorite of her rumored owner, British businessman Chris Dawson — and even has one on display as an art piece in the upper deck's lounge. The primary suite is 1,400 square feet and has its own study , and there's a sauna, an indoor-outdoor gym, a helipad, and a massage room spread among her six decks.
She boasts an "armada of water toys," including two kinds of Jet Skis, electric water bikes, and a banana boat.
Seanna: 64.5 meters
Price: $54,000,000 (or from $462,000 a week to charter) Special features: marble foyer, movie room, sundeck pool
The recently refurbished Seanna is available for sale and charter.
Her indoor-outdoor gym is on sea level so that passengers can take a dip after a session with the onboard personal trainer. There's also a sundeck pool, a helipad, a two-room massage facility, and, for the more cerebral guests, a library with an electric fireplace.
There are a number of toys on board, including a popular water trampoline and two WaveRunners.
Come Together: 60 meters
Price: $65,000,000 Special Features: DJ and videographer on board, ice bath, sauna
Next-to-new yacht Come Together is looking for a new owner after doing charters during the 2023 season.
The Beatles' influence is evident beyond the yacht's name, with guitars dotting the sky lounge and a crewmember who doubles as a DJ. There's also an outdoor cinema and bar for entertainment and an ice bath and sauna for the day after the party. The owner's suite has a private study and lounge, and each guest cabin has its own ensuite.
The sale includes a number of toys, like Jet Skis, kayaks, and Seabobs.

After several months of looking and two failed surveys, I have just completed the purchase of my first boat, a Jeanneau Merry Fisher 795. As a newcomer to boating I have to admit my first impression of boat brokers was pretty poor (compared to other industries I deal with) - descriptions were definitely on the optimistic side, boats were untidy, dirty and generally poorly presented. No excuses, just very poor sales and I would be careful who to list my boat with in the future. Then I came across Ancasta (Leo Walters) who shone bright like a beacon. The description of the boat was accurate, minor faults highlighted and extra pictures provided on request. Communications with Ancasta have been excellent, the boat was very well presented for inspection and after sales Ancasta remained interested to ensure my experience was positive. I wouldn't hesitate going to Ancasta for another purchase and if you are thinking of selling a boat, consider using Ancasta, you will get better service and value for money than many other brokers out there. And as a buying customer I would feel confident buying through them so you would be more likely to sell to me!

Builder : Swiftships Length : 91.4m Year : 1997
Originally launched by US yard Swiftships in 1997, the 91.4-metre explorer Voyager spent the first two decades of her life as a 63-metre supply ship called Candy Trader , used for commercial works. That all changed in 2016 when she arrived at Dania Cut in Florida to start a three-year conversion into an explorer yacht. When she emerged in 2019, blinking into the East Coast sunshine, Voyager became the largest conversion superyacht ever in the US. She features a bathing platform and helipad, while her five decks host a huge crew of over 70 members.
Builder : Derecktor Shipyards Length : 85.6m Year : 2010
Launched in time for the 2010 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show from Bridgeport, Connecticut, the 85.6-metre superyacht Aquila (formerly Cakewalk ) is a full displacement, oceangoing superyacht with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. Her refit in 2016 secured her the title of the largest yacht to be refitted in the UK and gave her the added 'wow' factor of a bespoke chandelier from Czech company Preciosa, comprised of more than 850 pieces of hand-blown glass. The chandelier is a staggering 11.2 metres long, cascading through four of Aquila ’s five decks.
SS Delphine
Builder: Great Lakes Ew Length: 78.6m Year: 1921
This motor yacht was a familiar sight around Detroit and Chicago in the 1920s. Automobile manufacturing mogul Horace Dodge named SS Delphine after his daughter and designed an unusual quadruple steam expansion engine for the vessel, which gave her an impressive top speed of 15 knots. During World War II she served as the flagship of Admiral King, the Commander-in-Chief of the US Fleet. Laid up in 1962, she was bought by the Seafarers International Union for use as a headquarters ship but fell into disrepair in the early 1990s. She was later acquired by a Singapore company which planned to convert her into a mini-cruise liner for Asian waters, but this sale fell through. Happily, she was purchased by a Belgian buyer, Ineke Bruynooghe, and a thorough restoration and conversion brought both the yacht and her original steam engines back to new condition.
Builder : Trinity Yachts Length : 73.8m Year : 2013
Built to ABS class in steel and aluminium, Cocoa Bean was launched in 2011 as the largest yacht to hit the water in North America at the time. Owned by the late Ali Ghandour, her name presumably refers to one of the Ghandour Company’s best-selling confectionaries - chocolate. In 2020, she emerged from a three-year refit courtesy of Astilleros de Mallorca with her upper deck brows extended, her mast restyled and a freshly-painted red bootstripe. Twin 2,575hp Caterpillar engines give her a range of 6,000 nautical miles and a top speed of 15.5 knots.
Builder : Delta Marine Length : 73.2m Year : 2006
Built in the Pacific Northwest, Laurel has a steel hull and composite superstructure and is the fourth-largest yacht to be built in North America since the Great Depression. Her sun deck extends fore and aft of a central observation room, the forward part being a belvedere terrace and the aft offering a gym, spa pool and sunbathing. Tenders are stored on the lower deck and launched through doors to port and starboard. Another highlight is the diving room, which opens to a large bathing platform created by opening the stern door.
Builder : Delta Marine Length : 72.2m Year : 2016
Launched from Dakota Creek in September 2016, Albatross is the second-largest yacht from this American yard to date and has since only been used as a private vessel. She sports an exterior by Espen Oeino International and a Francois Zuretti interior with a volume of 2,066 GT. Equipped for exploring, she is capable of 7,400 nautical miles and is fitted with a helicopter landing pad and a large 13-metre beam tender garage. On deck, leisure highlights include an al fresco dining area accompanied by a chef station, a BBQ, oven and a raised eight-person Jacuzzi.
DSSV Pressure Drop
Builder : Tacoma Boat Building Length : 68.3m Year : 1985
The 68.3-metre DSSV Pressure Drop was described by owner and explorer Victor Vescovo as being "not a yacht, and not luxurious". Used as a support vessel for Vescovo's host of deep submersibles, the yacht was originally delivered in 1985. A full refit in 2015 courtesy of Stabbert Maritime saw DSSV Pressure Drop transformed into what it is today, able to accommodate 47 people – including 19 crew and 12 technical specialists. The yacht also features dry and wet science labs, full ocean-deep sonar and an 11.2-metre Triton 36000/2 submersible .
Builder : Bender Length : 67.1m Year : 1982
Described as a "sport utility" vessel by the yard that converted her, Global owes her rugged commercial appearance to her former life as an oil rig support vessel. Formerly known as Allure Shadow , she is half yacht and half toy carrier, offering six double guest cabins with balconies, a saloon, a dining room, a sky lounge with panoramic views opening to a forward observation deck, an eight-metre freshwater swimming pool, a cinema, a games room that also functions as a library and a full gymnasium complete with a spa. Her huge decks can carry, among other toys, a helicopter and its full logistical needs plus a large sport fishing vessel. If all that doesn't impress, Global also has the capacity to host events for 200 people.
Builder : Candies Shipbuilders Length : 67m Year : 1980
Explorer has lived many lives, starting out as Clipper Cap Haitien and later being converted to a Shadow Marine vessel. In 2011, she had a major hull extension that brought her from 51.8 metres to her current length of 67 metres. The latest refit was undertaken in order to add an additional deck dedicated to the owner’s use, which comprises the owner’s cabin, private lounge, gym and spa. Other refit work included creating a movie theatre and upgrading all the audio-visual and IT systems. Moving the helipad also allowed the creation of a new open sun deck, providing ample entertaining spaces. An elevator was also installed to serve all decks.
Blue Shadow
Builder : Campbell Length : 66.8m Year : 1994
Blue S hadow is best known through her previous owner, HRH Prince Khaled bin Sultan of Saudi Arabia. A keen oceanographer, Prince Khaled made the yacht available for scientific purposes worldwide in support of the Living Oceans Foundation. The yacht carries Golden Eye , an amphibious 10-seater Cessna 208 with Wipair floats, as well as many special-purpose tenders, and offers a range of scientific laboratories and accommodation for up to 11 visiting scientists and pilots. Blue Shadow was built in the USA by the now-defunct San Diego builder Campbell Industries to the design of Martin Francis and was refitted in 2006.
Builder : Delta Marine Length : 65.5m Year : 2013
Previously known as Project Invader , Delta Marine's Invictus is built with an ice-strengthened steel hull and a composite superstructure which was penned by Delta Design . With such a long-distance cruising range of 7,000 nautical miles and features such as a pool on the sundeck, a theatre and a gym, this boat is designed to keep its guests entertained on long-haul voyages. She was officially delivered in Seattle, Washington to a North American client, but the key is her remarkable 1,945GT volume, which leaves ample space for an innovative layout.
Builder : Palmer Johnson Length : 64m Year : 2013
Lady M is Palmer Johnson's 64-metre flagship and is the largest all-aluminium boat ever built in the United States. Her narrow profile and characterful vertical bow are shared by her much smaller SportYacht sisters, which start at around the 36-metre mark. Outstanding features include a hot tub and large open teak decks that flow into contemporary beachy interiors, courtesy of Italian design house Nuvolari Lenard . Powered by twin diesel MTU engines, Lady M boasts a transatlantic range and top speeds of 28 knots.
Builder : Halter Length : 63.4m Year : 1978
Formerly known as Fierce Contender, this vintage expedition yacht's greatest claim to fame is a stint on the popular television show Deadliest Catch, where it was used as a crabbing vessel. S uRi has since undergone a series of refits after braving the treacherous seas around Alaska's Aleutian Islands. The most substantial was in 2011 at California-based Bay Ship & Yacht Co., which saw 11 metres added to her mid-body. Benefits of this extension included a larger al fresco dining area, sunning and shade areas. A glass-enclosed guest lounge in the existing lounge was also added, which can either be closed and fully climate-controlled or opened up for the indoor-outdoor effect on balmier nights. Following a 2016 refit, this 1,355GT displacement yacht now features new timeless interior décor by Krilloff & Associates .
Builder : Delta Marine Length : 62.8m Year : 2018
Built at the Seattle shipyard in 2018, this 63-metre superyacht is allegedly owned by US billionaire Jay Alix of Alix Partners. All exterior and interior stylings were completed in-house and Satori has since remained very resolutely out of the public eye. Interior photos and amenities have not been released, with exterior photos revealing a helipad on the sundeck, a spacious swim platform and a lateral-opening tender garage and balcony.
According to BOATPro , Satori seems to be spending July 4 cruising along Savusavu Bay in Fiji.
Mia Elise II
Builder : Trinity Yachts Length : 60.4m Year : 2012
With a length of 60.4 metres and a relatively small draft of 2.4 metres, Mia Elise II is one of the largest yachts still capable of accessing shallow anchorages in the Bahamas and Caribbean. This 916GT yacht was designed by the yard’s in-house team and has a bright, airy interior owed to Patrick Knowles . The full-beam upper deck houses a sky lounge, an office, a VIP cabin and the master suite forward with a private foredeck, meaning that owners can enjoy unimpeded, secluded ocean views. Mia Elise II accommodates a total of 13 guests in a master, a VIP and five double cabins including four on the lower deck.
Builder : Trinity Yachts Length : 59.7m Year : 2009
The first Trinity yacht designed by the Bannenberg and Rowell studio, Bacarella began life at 55 metres and was extended to her current length mid-build. She features four very large guest cabins on her lower deck and a full-beam main deck master with a large his-and-hers en suite forward. Her 1,052GT volume gives Bacarella a vast interior, offset by a dramatic interior palette of unusual materials and pale colours. Notably, Bacarella suffered some damage in 2017 after a helicopter crashed into her off the coast of Bergen, Norway. She was refitted most recently in 2020.
Grand Rusalina
Builder : Trinity Yachts Length : 59.6m Year : 2006
Damaged by fire during her construction in 2002 and subsequently rebuilt in Brisbane, Australia, Grand Rusalina (ex- Ulysses ) is a solidly-constructed explorer-type yacht capable of traversing the world’s oceans with ease and in the greatest of comfort. She can accommodate 14 guests and now has a range of 6,000 nautical miles, allegedly boasting upwards of 8,000 in her heyday. This self-sufficient superyacht is MCA compliant and able to stow a vast array of equipment, including several tenders, jet skis, an inflatable dock and pool and a helipad.
Builder : Palmer Johnson Length : 59.4m Year : 1998
Pearl is the largest yacht to emerge from the Wisconsin-based shipyard and has since sailed under multiple owners (and names). She was launched as La Baronessa for a Singaporean owner and was renamed Frequency when acquired by a Turkish businessman with an interest in cell phones. She later became Shubra II and was again renamed, this time becoming Pearl . Naval architecture is by New York-based Sparkman & Stephens , while her styling and interior design are by Italian design house Nuvolari Lenard .
Builder : Trinity Yachts Length : 58.8m Year : 2016
Launched in 2016, the 58.8-metre Imagine is hull number T062 in the Gulfport-based yard's impressive fleet. The exterior styling for this tri-deck motor yacht was created by long-time collaborator Geoff Van Aller , with both the hull and superstructure built from aluminium to AB classification. Power comes from a pair of 3,386hp Caterpillar engines and her total interior volume is believed to be in excess of 800GT. The yacht also has a bonus cabin that doubles as a massage room – imagine that.
Builder : C. Welding Length : 58.3m Year : 1950
This 58.3-metre motor yacht was built for American shipping and real estate tycoon Daniel K. Ludwig under the name Argo . Designed by John H. Wells , Hasabi II is a hardy vessel, with a maximum range of 5,300 nautical miles and exterior stylings that have been left relatively unchanged across her impressive 73-year tenure. She has not had a major refit since 2006. According to BOATPro , she was last sighted today at the Corfu Town Yacht Harbour in Greece.

Someone found England’s biggest ever gold nugget but it’s not worth all that much

A treasure hunter with a faulty metal detector has discovered the largest golden nugget ever found in England.
Richard Brock, 67, was on an expedition in Shropshire Hills when he discovered the 64.8g ‘Hiro’s Nugget’ worth £30,000.
But despite it being the biggest find of its kind on English soil, it’s worth seems like tiny when compared to those found elsewhere.
The Pepita Canaã, which was found in Brail in 1983, weighed in at 60.82kg and sold for £2,236,942.
In Australia, the Hand of Faith, which weighed 27.66kg, is worth at least £1,162,875.
Elsewhere in the UK, the Douglas Nugget found in Perthshire weighed 85.7g and sold for £50,000 and The Reunion Nugget found in Scotland in 2019 and weighed 121.3g was auctioned off for £80,000.
Dad-of-four Richard said: ‘I have been detecting since 1989 and decided to join the trip, wo I drove three-and-a-half hours to Shropshire and arrived about an hour late, thinking I’d missed the action.
‘At first I just found a few rusty old tent pegs with this back-up detector which had a fading screen display.
‘But after only 20 minutes of scanning the ground I found this nugget buried about five of six inches down in the ground.’
Richard showed his finds to his fellow detectorists, prompting everyone to franticly search the area.
‘I was a perhaps bit too honest and started showing people, and then all of a sudden I had swarms of other detectorists scanning the same area,’ Richard said.
‘I couldn’t believe it – I turned up late, was only there a matter of minutes and this treasure hunting expedition was supposed to last all day.
‘I couldn’t look for anything else as I had the land owner, the organiser of the dig and every other detectorist around me trying to get a look at this nugget.’
It remains a mystery as to why the gold nugget was hiding in the Shopshire Hills, near Much Wenlock.
But parts such as the Wenlock Edge is an ancient landscape which was once under a prehistoric ocean.
There is also large amount of rock which originally came from Wales – a country known to be rich in gold.
Richard’s discovery was made on a site believed to have been an old track or road with railway lines running through, containing stone possibly distributed from Wales.
He said: ‘Upon doing some research, we could only find bigger than this in Wales and Scotland
‘The last one which claimed to be bigger in England was 54 grams but mine is 64.8 grams, so we’re pretty confident its the biggest found on English soil.
‘I did contact the finds liaison officer and they were happy for me to do with it what I wanted, so I thought I would try selling it at auction.
‘I’m going to split whatever it sells for with the land owner. I found it last May but I’ve only recently learned it could be the biggest – it is quite incredible really.’
Auctioneers Mullock Jones is offering the nugget for sale in a timed auction which began last weekend and runs until April 1.
Ben Jones, of the auctioneers, said: ‘We are expecting considerable interest in this item. It is a rare opportunity to acquire a stunning golden nugget.
‘We are offering it as a single item to on-line bidders from from Friday March 15 and ending at 6pm on 1st April.’

LONDON (AP) — Britain’s Conservative government said Wednesday that the party does not plan to give back 10 million pounds ($12.8 million) it received in the past year from a donor who made comments about a Black lawmaker that have been condemned as racist.
The government is under pressure from some of its own lawmakers to return the donation from IT entrepreneur Frank Hester, who said during a 2019 company meeting that Diane Abbott, Britain’s longest-serving Black legislator, made him “want to hate all Black women” and that she “should be shot.”
Hester, chief executive of healthcare software firm The Phoenix Partnership, was the Conservative Party’s biggest donor in 2023. His company has been paid more than 400 million pounds ($510 million) by the National Health Service and other government bodies since 2016, according to The Guardian, which broke the story of Hester’s comments.
Hester acknowledged that he had been “rude about Diane Abbott” but denied being racist. In a statement on social media, he said racism “is a poison that has no place in public life.”
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak initially criticized Hester’s comments — first reported Monday — as “unacceptable,” but it was almost 24 hours before the prime minister’s spokesman labeled the remarks racist. The shift came after Cabinet minister Kemi Badenoch, who is Black, broke ranks and decried Hester’s racism.
Sunak told lawmakers in the House of Commons on Wednesday that “the alleged comments were wrong, they were racist.” He added that Hester had “rightly apologized for them, and that remorse should be accepted.”
Business Minister Kevin Hollinrake told broadcasters that the Tories would not give back the money Hester had given to the party. He told Sky News that “clearly” the comments were racist, but that it was right to keep the donation because Hester “is not a racist, and he has apologized for what he said.”
Asked by the BBC whether the party would take more money from Hester, Hollinrake said: “As I now understand the situation, yes.”
But Andy Street, the Conservative mayor of England’s West Midlands region, told BBC radio that if it were up to him, “I would think about the company I kept and I would give that money back.”
Nus Ghani, a senior Conservative lawmaker and junior business minister, said on social media: “Zero tolerance on racism is just a slogan in today’s politics.”
Opposition politicians lambasted Sunak over Hester’s remarks during Prime Minister’s Questions in Parliament Wednesday.
“Is the prime minister proud to be bankrolled by someone using racist and misogynist language?” asked Labour Party leader Keir Starmer.
Scottish National Party lawmaker Stephen Flynn accused Sunak of “putting money before morals.”
Sunak defended taking money from Hester, saying “ultimately he has been donating to the most diverse Cabinet in history, led by the first non-white prime minister.”
Britain’s political parties are trying to build up funds for election campaigns later this year. Figures from the Electoral Commission show the Conservatives received 9.8 million pounds ($12.5 million) from individual and corporate donors in the final three months of 2023, and the main opposition Labour Party 6 million pounds ($7.7 million).
Hester and his company gave the Conservatives 10 million pounds in 2023, the Electoral Commission said. The party received a donation of the same size as a bequest from the late supermarket tycoon John Sainsbury, who died in 2022.
Parliamentary records show Hester’s firm also loaned Sunak a helicopter to use for a trip in December, at a value of 15,900 pounds ($20,000).
The controversy does not immediately threaten Phoenix Partnership’s contracts to supply medical-records software to the state-run national Health Service. In an interview with the Daily Telegraph last month, Hester denied his Conservative donations were linked to his firm’s securing of government contracts.
He said many of the deals were with individual hospitals and doctors’ offices and the national government had no say over them.
He said family doctors “decide which software they’re using, not Rishi Sunak.”
The Guardian published further alleged remarks by Hester on Wednesday. It said he’d told a crowded staff meeting that Indian employees could sit on the roof of a nearby train if there wasn’t enough room.
Abbott, 70, was elected to the House of Commons in 1987 representing an area of east London, becoming Britain’s first Black woman member of Parliament. She sits as an independent after being kicked out of the Labour Party caucus last year for comments that suggested Jewish and Irish people do not experience racism “all their lives.”
She called Hester’s comments “frightening,” especially since two British lawmakers have been murdered since 2016. The government said last month it would step up politicians’ security because of rising tensions over the Israel-Hamas war.
Police in London said they were assessing the matter after their parliamentary liaison and investigation team was contacted about the Guardian’s initial report.
