Yacht Captain

Job description / Role

To manage and operate TDIC watercraft with superior vessel handling skills, to assist with maintenance management and staff scheduling and to provide leadership and supervision to other Boat Captains and marine staff. Vessel Maintenance and Staff Supervision Oversee the day-to-day schedule execution for all marine staff and keep up logs and records of vessel maintenance. Duties to include: 1. Create staff schedule drafts for MS Operation Manager’s approval. 2. Oversee emergent schedule changes caused by changes in weather, customer loading, staff sickness, injury or other incapacitation or mechanical breakdowns. 3. Enforce and provide leadership in the execution of operational disciplines, standard operating procedures and protocols and staff appearance standards established by higher authority. Marine Operations and Safety Accept full responsibility for vessel (after taking control) ensuring marine operations safety issues are attended to such as: 1. Operate vessel as required and per scheduled timings; 2. Accept full responsibility and accountability for safe control of the vessel, inclusive of cargo and passenger behavior; 3. Manage and control activities of crew whilst on the vessel and ensure management are informed of non conformance issues regarding both boat crew and/or vessel maintenance; Daily Maintenance Checks Ensure daily maintenance checks by crew as per the following prior to taking vessel out to sea:- 1. Ensure serviceability and general cleanliness of boats; 2. Check for hull damage, loose screws, broken seals, fuel leakages, damaged hoses, loose items etc to ensure safe operation of boats; 3. Inspect the bilges and ensure there is no water in engine room on a daily basis;

Requirements

STCW Modules I to IV. Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Offshore Level II certificate. RYA Advanced Power Boating Course. Yacht Captains are expected to have real-life ability to expertly control the movement and docking of power vessels up to 75 feet in length. Four (4) years as a working boat captain with a minimum of five (5) years total marine experience. Yachtmaster or equivalent designation is highly desirable. English Literacy (fluently speak, read and write). Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of basic repairs and maintenance of marine engines and boat systems.
