Behind the scenes: Captain Sandy Yawn on the reality of filming Below Deck Mediterranean

Sandy Yawn, the coolheaded captain who has shot to fame on Below Deck has returned to the helm for season six, Below Deck Mediterranean. Speaking to BOAT International she opens up about her experiences of filming the hit US reality show shown on US network Bravo.

The opportunity for Sandy, 55, to first join the Below Deck series “landed on her lap” after an acquaintance recommended her to the showrunner five years ago.

Captain Sandy revealed that she was discouraged from joining the show but decided to pursue the opportunity anyway.

“Everyone was saying don’t do it, you’ll ruin your career and I was like ‘This just landed in my lap, I can’t say no to it!' I went to the interview and said if it happens, it happens, if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. I thought well I’m already a successful captain, I can always get another job.”

Luckily, captain Sandy breezed through the interviews and was asked to join the second season of Below Deck Mediterranean, replacing outgoing captain Mark Howard.

Despite initial warnings not to join, captain Sandy said she was never concerned about her own portrayal on the show.

“You can’t make someone look bad if they’re doing their job right, no matter how you edit it,” she said. “I’m a competent captain. I’m a woman so I’ve had to work five times harder than anyone else to get there. I'm there to do the job and the TV bit comes second," she said.

She admits that her first season on the show, which saw her take charge of the 47 metre Heesen superyacht Sirocco during a busy charter season in Croatia, was a “huge learning curve” in comparison to working on professional charters.

“When you’re from the charter world, you’re used to having the best charter crew on the planet,” she said. “And then you step on board Below Deck and the chief stew has no experience.”

Working with “green” crew is a key challenge in filming  Below Deck , she said. “When someone doesn’t have passion for the job or is just there to be on TV and hope their career is going to take off, that is hard for me. I don’t have time for it, and you can always tell – the camera never lies.”

One area that poses no challenges for captain Sandy is the logistics of filming the show. “I love the production side of it,” she said. “It’s all about logistics, which is what you do as a captain.”

The intense filming schedule squeezes 16 charters into a filming period of eight weeks. This means that two groups of guests will charter the yacht in a single week, giving the crew less than 24 hours to prepare the boat for the next charter.

“Charter means working 24/7,” captain Sandy explained. “We end charter and do the tipping thing, which we’ve always done, and then we start turning the boat around. The next day, the crew are all doing interviews and then we pick up charter again.”

The sixth season of Below Deck Mediterranean features 55 metre Benetti superyacht Lady Michelle as the main charter yacht.

Alongside chartering the superyacht, the Below Deck production also charters a second boat during filming to be used by the film crew for lunch breaks, as well as a large tender to ferry around cast and production crew.

Meanwhile, more than 60 hotel rooms are booked out to support the production while an average day’s filming will see around 30 people on board the yacht.

Captain Sandy is keen to emphasise the positivity of the show, which she says is “doing a great thing for our industry.” “It shows that there are so many jobs in the industry and that there’s an industry out there thriving.”

Find out who came back, and get a recap on the charter guests by reading below!

Roy Orbison Jr.'s Return to Below Deck Mediterranean

During the pre-charter preference sheet meeting with chief stew Tumi Mhlongo , Chef Jack Luby , and Bosun Luka Brunton , Captain Sandy revealed that Roy Orbison Jr. , his wife, Asa, and their three boys would be joining the crew for a charter.

In case you need a refresher, Roy and his wife have appeared on Below Deck Med two other times before, on Season 5 and on Season 6.

"This is exciting for me," Captain Sandy said to her heads of department on the episode. "Does anyone know the name Roy Orbison? That's his son."

This time around, the Orbisons were joined by his younger brother and sister-in-law, as well as Ehren McGhehey, who viewers may know from the Jackass film series.

Ahead of their arrival, Captain Sandy briefed the rest of the crew. She said that Roy and his group were "great people" with "a lot of kids, a lot of energy." As she explained, when kids are on board, it means more work for the deck team.

During separate chats with  The Daily Dish , both Tumi and Natalya shared their thoughts on Roy Orbison Jr.'s charter.

Natalya, who spent a lot of time playing games with Roy and Asa's three boys, also gushed about the experience.

"They were the sweetest family, and I love, love, love kids. I was a nanny multiple times throughout my yachting career, and I used to be the nanny of three little boys, so to have his kids all come on, I was very excited," she said. "I love planning activities, I love playing games, I love just holding babies ... It's a really fun time to have a different type of guest on [with] like a family vibe ... it's more fun times and very family [oriented] activities."

The new trailer for season 8 of  Below Deck Mediterranean  is here and it's clear Captain Sandy Yawn has her hands full -- with her crew and at least one guest.

Bravo dropped the drama-filled trailer on Friday and Sandy has to navigate it all as hookups unfold on the 180-foot luxury yacht charter M/Y Mustique. But it's not just drama on board. Sandy also deals with logistical problems (i.e. work visas) that seemingly upend the crew she's saddled with for the Italian Riviera cruise.

"I have to leave you at dock," Sandy's heard saying to someone. "Otherwise, we're detained."

According to the show's synopsis, "Visa issues tie up two crew members while a department head mismanages important paperwork." Sandy is then forced to lean on "temporary help for the first charter and an unexpected shake-up results in a change of hierarchy."

With work visas wreaking havoc, the crew has to manage an intense workload, spurring personalities to quickly clash. Sandy and stews Natalya Scudder and Kyle Viljoen return for the new season, and they're joined by fan-favorite Tumi Mhlongo, who crosses over from Below Deck Down Under as the Med  crew's new chief stew. And Tumi's not afraid to let her feelings known about the Mediterranean crew.

"I have never come across a crew that's this crazy," she says in the trailer. "And I don't think I ever will."

New crew members include chef Jack Luby, bosun Ruan Irving, deckhands Luka Brunton from Below Deck Down Under , Haleigh Gorman and Lara Du Preez, and stew Jessika Asai.

On top of massaging egos and managing a wild crew, Sandy also deals with rowdy guests. In the trailer, Sandy is seen welcoming guests onboard before she's forced to issue a stark warning.

"He's a problem for us," Sandy tells someone about one of his guests as video shows a heavily inebriated man. "You have to get him under control or he's off the boat."

Later, it's Sandy who appears to leave the yacht to seek medical care for an apparent wrist injury.

Below Deck Mediterranean premieres Sept. 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo, with new episodes streaming the next day on Peacock.

Captain Sandy Yawn

Captain Sandy Yawn may be one of few female superyacht captains, but she never doubted she could operate a large vessel, meet her clients’ needs, and manage a crew with ease and grace. The 27-year industry veteran found fame on Bravo’s “Below Deck Mediterranean,” where she not only navigated the 154-foot Sirocco — a 2006 Heesen — she also gave viewers insight into how she skillfully navigates the needs of her clients, any unforeseen problems aboard the yacht, and the dramas that unfold among the crew.

MarineMax caught up with Capt. Sandy to ask her about challenges, accomplishments, and her newfound fame as the captain on “Below Deck.”

I am from Bradenton, Florida and I grew up on the water. We always water-skied from the time I was little. And as I got older, I started going down the wrong path. I then decided to answer an ad in the paper for detailing boats. I started doing so well at detailing boats that one of the customers offered to hire me full time. He was the one who helped start me on my career path.

The next step was working for him full time. He taught me how to dock, he sent me to sea school, engineering school and invested in my career. I believe in loyalty, and he was so loyal to me and invested in me that I chose to stay loyal to him and I worked for his family for nine years.

I always say to the crew it’s great to work on a superyacht, but you learn boat handling best on smaller vessels. I started on a 67 and then we built a 92 that was later sold. I then worked for a billionaire who went from a 92 to a 157, so that was a big jump for me.I got to watch what it was like to build boats in a shipyard because I went through the build of the 92 at Hatteras yachts and then we built the Trinity 157 which was a custom build where I was the build captain. This helped me to feel confident and comfortable with the vessel since I was able to see the whole build process from concept to completion.

I think it was incredible, Captain Keith did an excellent job. He’s very thorough and puts safety first which is important, but he also makes sure to help the women build their confidence on boats well enough to where they feel that they can take the helm over themselves. I feel blessed to be a part of this because I started on small boats. The other thing I love about MarineMax is their experience with the customer doesn’t end as soon as you purchase your boat, they continue supporting you the whole time you’re on the water.

Even as a captain today I stop, and I take a breath. I make sure to think about my approach and my escape. If my approach isn’t going to work where’s my escape? You need to always have that plan in place. There are some places that you go into where there is no escape. So, then it is all about getting past that fear of what if, just stay with what is. I stay committed and I stayed focused on my approach, I don’t freak out and I think it through. That is the message. Plan your approach, plan your escape. But if there’s no escape, remember to stay committed to your approach. To watch the full From the Helm Boating Broadcast interview, search “ Women on Water with Captain Sandy” on the MarineMax website.

Capt. Sandy Yawn from 'Below Deck Mediterranean' shares cruise tips and more ahead of new season

Kristy Tolley

Awe-inspiring backdrops, difficult yacht charter guests and cruise crew drama have fueled one of TV's most popular reality shows. Since "Below Deck" premiered on Bravo in 2013, it's spawned a number of spinoffs, beginning with the popular "Below Deck Mediterranean" series, which premiered in 2016.

Just in time for the highly anticipated Season 8 premiere on Monday, TPG had the chance to talk with the show's captain, Sandy Yawn. She shared cruise tips, favorite experiences and what to expect this season.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

What's new on 'Below Deck Mediterranean'

yacht charter mediterranean captain sandy

This season's locale promises to be one of the franchise's most picturesque journeys yet, as the team traverses the Italian Riviera and Genoa, Italy, aboard the luxury yacht Mustique.

In the northwestern corner of Italy in the Liguria region, the Italian Riviera stretches along the Ligurian Sea from the Italian-French border to the Tuscan border. It's renowned for its multicolored fishing villages, panoramic vistas, cerulean waters and pristine beaches.

"The Italian Riviera is beautiful, the cuisine is incredible and the people are friendly," Yawn said. "The minute you drive around on a yacht, and you see it open up to Portofino, you're just like, 'Oh, my gosh!' You have Santa Margherita or Rapallo — there are so many beautiful locations."

The idyllic landscape and onboard challenges provide an interesting contrast for the show.

"I think the mix of 'Below Deck Mediterranean' is you find the spice in the middle of the beauty. It's spicy and saucy, and also elegant and calm there," she continued. "You'll see on this season I get angry with someone, so you have to keep watching and find out."

Celebrity Ascent godmother

In addition to her title as a luxury yacht captain and reality show celebrity, Yawn can now add godmother to her list of superlatives. Yawn and her sister Michelle Dunham, founder of the Jacksonville School for Autism, will serve as co-godmothers for Celebrity Cruises ' newest ship, Celebrity Ascent. The sisters join the first two-brother captain team in the industry, Dimitrios and Tasos Kafetzis.

"They were considering me to be a godmother, and they wanted to have two sisters," Yawn explained. "They Googled my sister because they wanted someone who's very philanthropic, of course, and gives back, and that's my sister."

Yawn expected the invitation might be difficult for her sister to believe.

"I asked them to please tell her, so I looped her into the call," Yawn shared. "It's going to be great! I'm so excited."

The 3,260-passenger Celebrity Ascent will be the line's fourth Edge-class ship (a fifth vessel in the series also is on order). Its maiden voyage will depart from Fort Lauderdale on Dec. 3 and stop at Philipsburg, St. Maarten; Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas; and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Following its debut, the ship will sail weeklong cruises from Fort Lauderdale through winter 2024 before moving to Europe for summer Mediterranean sailings in Greece, Turkey, Italy, Spain and France.

"Captain Sandy's life story is one of resilience, leadership and strength as a pioneer in the maritime industry and as an inspirational role model for young women," Celebrity Cruises president Laura Hodges Bethge said. "Her sister Michelle is a tireless advocate for children with autism and shows us what is possible when you follow your vision for a better world. Both women live by Celebrity's values, and we have no doubt they are the perfect choices for Ascent."

Yawn had always been fully embedded in the "luxury yachts are better" camp and had no intention of crossing over to the big-ship side. However, after accepting an invitation to the launch of Celebrity Beyond from the line's then-president and CEO, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, she changed her perspective.

"Honestly, as a captain, I said I would never go on a cruise ship in my life ever," Yawn said. "She invited me to come on the new ship launch of Beyond, and from that moment forward, I was like, 'I will now go on a cruise ship because of their Apex series.'"

"Before, I was like, 'If it's not on a yacht, I'm not doing it,'" she added. "But that changed because I had that experience on Beyond."

Yawn cited Celebrity Beyond's top-notch service, luxurious cabins and fantastic restaurants as reasons for her recent big-ship conversion. However, she's not ready to abandon her first love.

"The experience on a yacht is very different," Yawn explained. "It's an intimate setting with only 12 guests, and we go into ports that cruise ships can't fit into and anchor off."

Tips for chartering a yacht

yacht charter mediterranean captain sandy

If you've never chartered a luxury yacht but want to add it to your bucket list travel experiences, Yawn offers a few tips.

" Go to a place you really want to visit — whether you're on a private yacht or you charter a catamaran in the [British Virgin Islands] — get the destination right," she said. "Where you drop your anchor is your experience, so really plan that."

Working within your budget and researching your crew are other important considerations, according to Yawn.

"Know your budget, do your background [research] on the boat and the crew," she shared. "Ask former clients who have chartered before, write them an email and see what they say [about their experience]."

Yawn's most important tip for yacht life? Don't overpack.

"Just keep it light and simple," she said. "You just live in your bathing suit and there's not a lot of room on smaller boats."

Memorable travel experiences

Whether in the water or on land, Yawn makes the most of every travel experience.

"I find the joy and the uniqueness of each place I visit — different cultures, restaurants, types of food — it's incredible," she shared.

Yawn was in London during our interview and offered a list of reasons for her affinity for the city.

"London's incredible," she shared. "Every corner you turn, there's history. Every building has character, the people are friendly, and the food is excellent."

Bottom line

Whether you're a fan of ocean-centric reality TV or need a little travel inspiration for your next vacation, "Below Deck Mediterranean" can check both boxes.

"Below Deck Mediterranean" Season 8 features cast members Natalya Scudder and Kyle Viljoen from last season; "Below Deck Down Under" alums Tumi Mhlongo and Luka Brunton; and newcomers chef Jack Luby, bosun Ruan Irving, deckhands Haleigh Gorman and Lara Du Preez and stewardess Jessika Asai. The season kicks off on Bravo on Monday, Sept. 25, at 9 p.m. EDT. It will also be available to stream the next day on Peacock.

The Untold Truth Of Below Deck's Captain Sandy

Below Deck's Captain Sandy

Below Dec k's Captain Sandy Yawn made major waves when she climbed aboard spin-off show  Below Deck:  Mediterranean   in Season 2 . As one of only a handful of female yachting captains in the industry, Yawn, who is a native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., started off at an immediate disadvantage upon joining the crew.

However, Yawn — known best as just "Captain Sandy" — has turned her unique position into a major selling point, leading the charge through season after season of the hit Bravo show, all the while proving herself calm under pressure, a great mentor, and an even better boss. Comparisons to the legendary Captain Lee abound but this is one lady whose style is all her own.

The reality TV star had her hardships, found love in a modern, tech-obsessed age, and even earned a nickname for her impressive managerial style. This is the untold truth of Below Deck Med 's inimitable Captain Sandy.

She's Sandy to her friends but Captain Sandy to her Below Deck crew

It's difficult to know how to refer to Below Deck 's Captain Sandy Yawn — should people use her surname, call her Captain Sandy, or even Captain Yawn? The folks over at Decider were similarly confused, so they asked the Below Deck Mediterranean fan fave how she likes to be addressed. "Anyone can call me Sandy. What happens in the yachting industry is people think we're all friends because we live together. And then they start losing that, 'Oh my gosh, she's actually in charge of me,'" she explained.

Captain Sandy ensures her team knows who's the boss right off the bat, even though she considers herself a "warm" and "friendly" person by nature. "I always want people to feel I'm approachable. Having said that, I also need them to remember that I am in charge, and if you don't set that precedent in the beginning, then they get confused because I play a lot," she said. Considering how beloved she is among staff both past and present, clearly whatever Captain Sandy is doing is working.

Below Deck's Captain Sandy almost died in a motorbike accident

Anybody who's had even a fleeting glimpse of Below Deck 's Captain Sandy Yawn in action know she's a total boss babe. But her strength goes beyond leading a difficult crew on the high seas. As she revealed in an interview with Women's Health , a near-death experience ended up saving her life. Yawn recounted how, in February 2015, when she was 49, she  crashed her motorcycle into a car, which left her with fractured bones in most of her limbs.

After having full reconstructive surgery on her foot and ankle, which were both totally crushed in the accident, a chance meeting with a urologist friend-of-a-friend led to a tumor being discovered on Captain Sandy's kidney. She had laparoscopic surgery less than a month later to remove it. "Who would have ever thought they would be grateful for being in a motorcycle crash? But I was. As the doctor explained, it might have been years until that tumor was found. At that point, the cancer would have progressed, and it would have been too late," she revealed.

Below Deck's Captain Sandy is not the crew's mother, she's their leader

The casts of Below Deck and Below Deck   Mediterranean might not be as debauched as, say, the Vanderpump Rules lot, which features the likes of Lala Kent and  Stassi Schroeder , but spending so much time isolated on boats together does bring out a certain... element in people, particularly young, hot crew-members looking to quash their boredom between shifts. Thankfully, Below Deck 's Captain Sandy Yawn couldn't care less what her charges get up to on-board, just as long as they keep things kosher when the time comes.

"How I handle it is, I don't care who you sleep with or if you all sleep together, but the minute you come up on deck you better be professional. I don't want to see that behavior on deck and do your job. And they do. Most of the time they do their jobs," she told People . Although Captain Sandy has had to intervene a few times, she makes it clear that she's "not their mother" but "their leader." And, as their leader, the Below Deck Med star understands that "they have to have outlets," adding, "You can't demand what we demand from these crews and not let them have these outlets."

Shared faith helped Below Deck's Captain Sandy find love

After years of working in a male-dominated industry, wondering whether she'd ever find someone who could fit into her insanely busy life, Below Deck 's Captain Sandy Yawn found love in the unlikeliest of places: on Facebook, where gospel singer Leah Shafer sent her a sweet message about Below Deck Mediterranean . It stood out among a multitude of DMs because of the "many blessings" at the end, which struck a chord with the faith-focused yacht captain. After researching Shafer, Captain Sandy realized she'd be ideal for her "I Believe" speaking tour "because her music has a message," as she told The Cheat Sheet .

When the two finally met in person, they knew instantly. Captain Sandy even relocated to Denver to be with Shafer. Their shared faith brought them together, with Shafer revealing, "It was like a spiritual connection in the beginning. She has a passion for inspiring through music and the youth. And broken people and so do I coming from the gospel industry. That's what brought us together. And then, of course, the attraction and falling in love with a beautiful soul and knowing you want to be with someone forever. I've never felt that way before."

Below Deck's Captain Sandy thinks being a captain is pretty hot

She may have found her ideal partner, but Below Deck 's Captain Sandy Yawn still has to fend off unwanted attention from horny yacht guests. As she told Bravo , it's largely because of her standing on the ship. "It's sexy. It's pretty hot," the Below Deck Mediterranean star said of being a captain. Guests are attracted to a woman at the helm because they don't see it very often, and they instantly want to know everything about her.

According to a  psychological study about the connection between power and sexual attraction, the two are intrinsically linked. The report found that power heightens sexual attraction. Both male and female high-powered individuals were significantly more attractive to participants than their low-power counterparts, which is great news for a woman captaining a super-yacht for sure. We guess being in a powerful position is just one of many surprising traits men find attractive , and it seems Captain Sandy has doubt about her effect on guests.

Below Deck's Captain Sandy has a nickname at sea that's very fitting

Considering she beat cancer and came back from a devastating injury (via Women's Health ) to be one of a tiny group of women helming a yacht, it's no wonder Below Deck 's Captain Sandy Yawn is taken as something of a trailblazer in the industry. More than that, though, she's a major bada**. Quite literally, as noted in an interview with Boats , the Below Deck Mediterranean star is known colloquially as "Bada** Captain."

It's something she leans into 100 percent. Her daily mantra is: "Wake up. Show up. Kick a**. Repeat." With Captain Sandy working consistently in a male-dominated industry, running yachts well above and below 100 feet, fronting a reality show about the industry itself, and frequently battling daunting professional and personal circumstances, the nickname is totally fitting. At its core, "Bada** Captain" showcases this lady's focus on inspiring everyone to follow her lead and push themselves to be the best they can be.

Below Deck's Captain Sandy didn't always want to be a yacht captain

Watching her work, it's impossible to envision anywhere else Below Deck 's Captain Sandy Yawn could possibly be more at home. And yet, being a yacht captain wasn't her end goal. In fact, it wasn't even a goal — period. As she reminisced with Boats , she "fell into it," admitting, "It's not like I said, 'I have to be a yacht captain.'"

Growing up in Florida, she was always on the water, even cleaning boats as an early job. The captain of the yacht on which she landed her very first crew position wasn't great, leading her to realize she could do better. After being hired by the owner of a 67-footer, who paid for Captain Sandy to earn her captain's license, she stayed and worked with him for almost ten years. Below Deck came calling in 2015, looking for her to be a part of their new  Mediterranean  spin-off. "I thought, 'Why not?'" she shared. "This show reaches the middle of America and people who knew nothing about charter."

Below Deck's Captain Sandy has an empathetic response to homophobia

One of Below Deck Mediterranean 's most shocking moments saw Mila Kolomeitseva — the first female chef featured on the hit Bravo reality TV franchise — making homophobic comments to other members of Captain Sandy Yawn's crew. Kolomeitseva's issue surrounded her young son seeing "two men kissing each other," which was something she wanted to avoid. When questioned about the incident by Too Fab , Below Deck 's Captain Sandy said she heard it through the grapevine only, rather than being told directly.

As for how she feels about Kolomeitseva's demonstrably homophobic attitude, the no-nonsense leader explained, "People grow up in different countries and are programmed a certain way to think," referring to the chef's Siberian upbringing. Captain Sandy elaborated, "That's her opinion. That doesn't reflect [me]," adding, "She can have her opinion. I don't really care. Doesn't reflect on me. It reflects on her."

The girlfriend of Below Deck's Captain Sandy is everything the star was looking for

Meeting Leah Shafer was fate as far as  Below Deck Mediterranean star Captain Sandy Yawn is concerned. "It was meant to be because I wasn't really looking for it," she told  Too Fab , adding, "I wrote a list of the person I wanted, and she's the list," she explained.

Their connection was instantaneous, of course, but Below Deck 's Captain Sandy was quick to note that the honeymoon period has continued on regardless. "You know when you meet that person, you know? And then you say, 'Okay, they're on their best behavior.' But she's actually normal, and I wake up happy every day of my life," she explained.

The Below Deck Med fixture previously told Bravo's Daily Dish , "I want someone who wakes up happy, just is happy to be alive. Like, that's how I wake up every day of my life," and it looks like Shafer certainly fits the bill.

Below Deck's Captain Sandy almost lost her life to addiction

Aside from a deadly motorcycle accident, which in turn led to a cancer scare, Below Deck 's Captain Sandy Yawn also almost lost her life to addiction, something many people don't understand . Although it's difficult to imagine the inspirational female captain as anything other than a total bada**, she explained to The Cheat Sheet that, particularly as a teenager, she "was a mess." Captain Sandy elaborated on her troubles, admitting, "No matter how much money you have, it's not going to save your life if you are an addict or an alcoholic. And I was a major addict and alcoholic." In fact, she said she was frequently in and out of jail for drunk-driving.

Nowadays, Captain Sandy utilizes those troubled experiences to teach others to stay on the right path. "The only way I can help is to share my story," she said, adding that school was a nightmare for her and self-medicating may even have been a response to her burgeoning same-sex attraction. Her mother was an alcoholic, making Captain Sandy's home life difficult, too. Thankfully, by 25, she was ready to turn her life around.

Veganism didn't agree with Below Deck's Captain Sandy

Watching her confidently steer the ship on Below Deck Mediterranean , it seems there's nothing Captain Sandy Yawn can't do. And yet, something as relatively simple as going vegan beat the tough-as-nails leader. As she explained to Bravo's The Feast , driving a vessel for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society made her conscious of what she eats, in particular fish. She's toyed with the idea of going vegan, but it unfortunately didn't work for her.

"Honestly, I try, but I didn't feel well to be honest. I didn't have the energy. Some bodies just aren't cut to go vegan. I tried," she said. These days, it's actually her partner, Leah Shafer, who decides what they eat because Below Deck 's Captain Sandy is so laid-back about it. "I'm not that person [who has to decide]: As a captain, we constantly make decisions. When I'm with someone else, I don't want to make a decision. I don't want to choose," she said.

Below Deck's Captain Sandy would love to welcome some Real Housewives aboard

Most people watching Real Housewives  couldn't imagine tussling with any of the ladies in the ever-expanding franchise, but Below Deck 's Captain Sandy Yawn would welcome some of the mouthiest broads on-board. In fact, she'd relish having them as guests. When Decider asked which show in particular she'd like to see stars from, Captain Sandy chose New York City . She explained, "New Yorkers have an edge. I love to be challenged by clients. When clients are yes-ing you to death, I know that it's not perfect because that's impossible. I need the client to tell me the truth. They'll tell the truth."

As for who her real-life Bravo favorites are, Captain Sandy advised, "I have to admit that I didn't watch The Real Housewives of Potomac , but after meeting Gizelle Bryant...her vibe. I love NeNe, Dorinda, I love them all. But after spending time with Gizelle, we didn't even really talk a lot, but she was so gracious. She's cool." The Below Deck Mediterranean star confirmed, "She's cool on the show, she's real. ...So I have to say, she's probably won me over."

Below Deck's Captain Sandy doesn't appreciate the Captain Lee comparisons

So-called "stud of the sea" Captain Lee Rosbach is a Below Deck mainstay but if there was anyone who was going to not just follow in his footsteps but blow him out of the water (pun intended), it would be Captain Sandy. Even so, she's not terribly impressed with the comparisons. As she told Decider , "When people compare me to Captain Lee on Twitter, that makes me realize they have no idea who I am, or who he is. It's just what they watch. We have two very different career paths. I was a busy charter captain in the Mediterranean. That wasn't Captain Lee."

Below Deck 's Captain Sandy was quick to note, "I have respect for him. We get along. He's great, he refers to me as kiddo. He's a great guy." Still, she also asserted, "As a woman in this industry, I worked hard to get to where I am. When you're a guy it's an easier climb, right?" She explained that everything has to be 100 percent by the book because mistakes aren't as forgivable for a female captain.

Below Deck's Captain Sandy sees being a female captain as an advantage

As much as being a woman made it harder for Below Deck 's Captain Sandy Yawn to make her mark (via Decider ), she doesn't necessarily see it as a setback. She told Bravo , "Being a female captain in this industry is challenging and inspiring because I thrive on problem solving. Being a woman in the male dominated yachting world is an advantage due to my ability to multi task while managing the emotions of the crew. I choose not to come from a place of power and control and it really, really works."

She continued, "I prefer to be hands-on, firm, and compassionate. That's how I navigate my leadership." Furthermore, Captain Sandy sees her role as inspirational too, telling The Little White Lie  that this is her time "to inspire other young ladies to jump in and say YES to taking a risk." She continued, "It's so worth it! If you fall short don't give up, just pick yourself up, brush yourself off and go for it again."

Yes, You Can Really Charter Below Deck Med ’s New Superyacht, Home

Renting or buying Season 7’s new vessel won’t come cheap though.

"Home", the new yacht from 'Below Deck: Mediterranean' is available to rent or buy.

When Captain Sandy Yawn and her all-new crew set sail on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 7, they’ll be in uncharted territory aboard a new superyacht, Home . While cruising the pristine waters of Malta, Captain Sandy was working for the first time on the 163-foot motor yacht, which Bravo described as a “complex hybrid vessel” that the Below Deck Med vet found to be “more unpredictable to navigate.” As the show’s Season 7 trailer previewed, Home won’t make it through the charters entirely unscathed either: In one clip, Captain Sandy laments that she hit something for the first time in her career, while another scene teases a potential “crashing” incident.

Rest assured that there weren’t any serious accidents because Home is currently available for charter in the Caribbean region at a cost ranging from $245,000 to $273,000 per week , depending on the season. Meanwhile, Home — the first diesel-electric motor yacht to appear on Below Deck — is also listed for sale with an asking price of just over $30.8 million. Per the listings, the superyacht, which Dutch shipyard Heesen built in 2017, sleeps up to 12 guests in six cabins and features contemporary, “Ibiza-style” decor. Among Home ’s many amenities are a large sun deck, jacuzzi, swim platform, air-conditioned gym, and sky lounge.

Home also sleeps up to 10 crew members. In Below Deck Med Season 7 , that includes Captain Sandy, returning Season 6 deckhand Mzi “Zee” Dempers, and newcomers: chief stew Natasha Webb, chef Dave White, bosun Raygan Tyler, stews Natalya Scudder and Kyle Viljoen, and deckhands Storm Smith and Jason Gaskell. Following her involvement in Hannah Ferrier’s mid-Season 5 firing, Malia White cited a scooter accident and pending exams — not fan backlash — as her reasons for not returning for Season 7. (“It’s not that I might never come back to the show,” Malia told Showbiz Cheat Sheet in May. “I’m just not on the next season.”)

Season 7’s “new boat with new department heads” might bring Captain Sandy some challenges during her “first time ever in Malta,” but she’s naturally ready to face them all head-on. The network also told viewers to expect “outrageous costumes, wild nights out, and some major inter-departmental drama,” which “doesn’t even cover what the charter guests are going to bring in the new season.”

As always, expect plenty of romance at sea, too. As Bravo’s first look teased, “boatmances” will be a major topic of conversation this season, including flirtations between Natalya and Storm, as well as several questions about the true nature of Natasha and Dave’s relationship. There could even be a fling between a crew member and a charter guest, too. Though Bravo is premiering the series on July 11, Peacock subscribers can access new Below Deck Med Season 7 episodes a week early beginning July 4.

Fans can also experience Home for themselves off-screen — but it will cost way more than their monthly cable bills.

Screen Rant

Captain sandy yawn is the best captain in below deck history.

Captain Sandy Yawn made a few controversial choices over the years, but she's still among the most respected captains in the Below Deck franchise.

  • Captain Sandy Yawn is an exceptional captain with a strong work ethic and dedication.
  • She is the first and only female captain in the Below Deck franchise, proving her skills and prowess.
  • Captain Sandy has overcome alcohol addiction and successfully managed chaotic crew members and wild charter requests.

Captain Sandy Yawn from Below Deck Mediterranean has proved she’s an excellent Below Deck captain through her actions in the last seven years. The 59-year-old reality star debuted on the Bravo show in 2017. She replaced the former Below Deck Med captain, Mark Howard, and stunned many viewers with her exceptional management skills. Unlike the strict Captain Lee Rosbach from Below Deck , whom fans had grown accustomed to seeing, Captain Sandy gave a unique spin to the show. She brought dominant female energy, making the spin-off stand out.

Captain Sandy hails from Florida and grew up close to the ocean. She finished her earlier education at Brandon High School and acquired her maritime degree soon after. Captain Sandy dealt with many substance addiction issues in her early adulthood. However, she overcame them with sheer dedication and kept thriving at her job to become a Captain. In 2023, Sandy completed seven successful years on Below Deck Med and celebrated a life milestone. She got engaged to her partner, Leah Shafer , and announced the big news on Instagram in September 2023.

Captain sandy has an excellent work ethic.

As of 2023, Bravo has launched five successful Below Deck spin-offs with over five excellent captains. However, no one appears to be on the level of Captain Sandy, as she’s a perfect example of what work ethic and dedication look like. Sandy has helped countless crew members through her calm demeanor and inspiring attitude over the years. She doesn’t just work hard but also pushes her crew to excellence. Since 2017, many cast members like Hayley De Sola Pinto from Below Deck have revealed how Captain Sandy’s harshness has helped them become better workers and people.

Captain Sandy’s work ethic has always been a topic of discussion. In 2019, she opened up about it in an interview and revealed the real reason behind her work-centric mindset. She said (via Bravo ), “my childhood was one of work, that’s why my work ethic is so strong.” Sandy claimed she grew up in extreme conditions after her parents divorced. According to Sandy, she almost grew up like a “child slave.”

She had to feed seven horses, 42 dogs, and many farm animals around her six-acre land. She had to walk miles to get to her bus stop, go to school, and then work even harder after returning.

Sandy Is The First & Only Female Below Deck Captain

Sandy stands out because she’s the only female captain in the Below Deck franchise . While it may not mean much to some, the sole fact that she’s a captain in the yachting industry proves she’s way better than most. According to Volygroup.com , the yachting industry is predominantly full of males . In comparison, only 17% of females are board directors, 4% are chief officers, and 2% are yacht captains. Captain Sandy’s hard-boiled career as a yacht captain for many years is a testament to her skills and prowess.

Captain Sandy Successfully Overcame Alcohol Addiction

A good leader always has a great backstory, and Captain Sandy is no different. She had a tough past and learned from her mistakes. When Sandy was very young, she became addicted to alcohol, which turned her life upside down. Not only did her addiction hurt her career, but it almost cost Sandy her life. She had to go to jail, overcome accidents, go through bankruptcy, and survive a heart attack and cancer. Sandy only made it because she overcame her addiction.

Captains like Lee, Kerry Titheradge, Jason Chambers, and more have been through tough situations. However, Captain Sandy has built her career after reaching the lowest of lows. In 2023, Captain Sandy celebrated a big achievement when she completed 34 years of sobriety. She used her milestones to encourage people and shared a motivational statement on X (formerly Twitter). She wrote, “I tried for yrs to stay clean & sober. On August 29th 1989 something shifted inside of me,” adding that she now feels worthy.

Captain Sandy Managed Chaotic Crew Members

While all Below Deck spin-offs are drama-filled, Captain Sandy’s Below Deck Med is the most chaotic. She always gets the wildest crew members capable of sinking any ship. However, she doesn’t let anyone ruin her work and always steers the yacht to its appropriate destination. Over the years, Sandy has handled a lot of chaos but always produces a memorable charter. In 2023, she proved her excellence when Sandy replaced a hurt Captain Lee in Below Deck season 10. Despite not knowing the crew, she completed the season with confidence and only fired two crew members.

Captain Sandy’s last two seasons on Below Deck Med have also been chaotic. In season 7, she had to fix the issues between Kyle Viljoen, Natalya Scudder, and her former chief stew, Natasha Webb. In season 8, she managed the drama between Tumi Mhlongo and Natalya while improving Max Salvador’s rude attitude . Captain Sandy even broke her wrist while trying to help out with the deck team. However, the injury didn’t stop her from maintaining control of her boat, ensuring full communication, and assuring that things never went south.

Captain Sandy Dealt With The Wildest Charter Requests

Captain Sandy is the greatest because she has executed the craziest charters in Below Deck history. One of her worst charters happened during Below Deck Med season 3 when a group of women complained about everything. Those ladies tested Captain Sandy’s patience and mocked her every effort. According to Cheat Sheet , Captain Sandy talked to some fans in 2020 and revealed another crazy charter request. She shared that some guests once pointed to a map and asked her to take the yacht there. She said the place was “800 miles” in the wrong direction. The Below Deck captain didn’t feel pressured to abide by her guests’ requests.

Below Deck Mediterranean airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EST on Bravo.

Take a Tour of Below Deck Med's New Yacht, the Largest in the Show's History

Captain Sandy shows us  Below Deck Mediterranean's biggest yacht ever, which is also its most glamorous.

yacht charter mediterranean captain sandy

Season 5 of Below Deck Mediterranean will take place aboard the largest boat in the series' history — and, quite possibly, also its most glam. From her dock in Mallorca, Spain, captain Sandy Yawn invited BravoTV.com to tour the stunning yacht, calling  The Wellington "by far, the biggest vessel I've ever run." Ready to peek inside?

How to Watch

Watch Below Deck Mediterranean  on Peacock  and the Bravo app .

Starting in the main salon, the captain shows off the "nice and spacious" room with plush couches, gilded lamps, and a giant flat-screen TV. ("This is where I think I'd do my pre-charter meeting — and perhaps my tip meeting," Sandy muses.) Next, there's a stop in the wood-paneled cigar room, which has tufted leather lounge furniture and a cabinet brimming with top-shelf whiskeys and scotches. "Obviously, they spared no expense when it comes to this," Sandy says. "This owner really loves his cigars and his whiskey."

Past the sumptuous indoor dining room, there's the master cabin. The 1920s-theme suite has been refurbished with mahogany and inlaid leather, and its Pratesi sheets go for about 2,000 Euros a pop. "The cool thing about this [suite]," Sandy adds, "it's got an actual closet. It's a proper dressing room."

Formerly an observation lounge, the V.I.P. suite has a glass ceiling. "It's almost like driving under the stars," Sandy says, looking up at the ceiling dreamily as she lies on the bed.

Next, Sandy dips into the crew quarters, where third stewardess Jessica More is at work ironing. "This is like entering the Bermuda Triangle," the captain jokes. "Some things that come in, never make it back out." While she walks through the rather cramped crew mess, Sandy jokes: "If anyone wants to get romantic, they have to get really creative to get romantic in these small little cabins." (Why do we have a feeling the crew will still find a way?)

After a walk through her "amazing" bridge and wing station, Sandy meets up with her new "favorite bosun," who might look familiar: It's Below Deck Med veteran Malia White ! Malia leads the next segment of the tour, showing the lazarette that holds toys ranging from jet skis to a jellyfish pool, slide, and trampoline.

On the bridge deck, Malia shows off the cushioned area where the deckhands have wrestling matches, and then points out the waterfall-equipped jacuzzi on the sundeck. Sandy, who grew up in the meat industry , pauses to say: "This is a pretty badass grill."

As Sandy says, "The bigger the boat ... I don't know!" We'll all have to watch Season 5 to find out. In the meantime, watch the video above to get the complete Wellington tour.

‘Below Deck’ Sails Into a New Era

With a different captain at the helm and new production elements, the reality show about charter yachts is switching up its style.

A man in a crew member suit stands behind a bar and tends to flowers in a vase.

By Shivani Gonzalez

Starting a new season of “ Below Deck ” can be similar to returning to summer camp as a kid — you know it’s going to be fun and that you’ll be in the same environment, but some of the people will be different and you’re not quite sure what the vibes will be.

This time around, in particular, feels that way because for the first time in the show’s 11-season run, Captain Lee Rosbach is no longer at the helm. It’s a pivotal moment for a franchise that has become one of the most popular entities in the sprawling universe of reality TV since premiering on Bravo in 2013 . The show’s appeal was built on endless romances between various crew members (“boatmances,” as they came to be known), horrible charter guests and some sort of passive-aggressive fight about how many shackles of the anchor chain should be in the water. And there was always Rosbach presiding over the drama as he trudged around the boat, reeling off one liners like “I’m madder than a pissed-on chicken” and “we screwed the pooch so many times we should have a litter of puppies running around.”

At the center of the show now is Kerry Titheradge (the stern yet goofy captain of “Below Deck Adventure” fame), who is managing the Motor Yacht Saint David with the cheeky chief stew Fraser Olender by his side.

With that change in captain, the energy on the boat — both onscreen and off — is different, according to Olender.

“I feel like Kerry this season, as opposed to Lee, has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him,” Olender said in an interview. “With Kerry, he taught me a lot and sort of forced to me confront issues directly with my team, work them out, as opposed to making executive decisions too soon.”

This shift in management style changes the central conflict — whereas the drama once focused on the captain swiftly kicking out any unpleasant crew member (as we might have seen with Rosbach), the drama now focuses on the whole crew trying to get along (since Titheradge gives people those second chances).

Additionally, Olender noted that the captain’s relationship with the crew can also affect the drama on board.

“Captains absolutely do get involved, whether they know it or not,” Olender said, adding that for the crew, everything is about “trying to impress your captain.”

This phenomenon plays out early in the new season when the lead deckhand, Ben Willoughby, called out a fellow crew member over the radios about not wearing a life vest — something he easily could have done in private. The drama that followed became an interpersonal conflict between the two of them, both with the ultimate goal of impressing Titheradge. (Of course, the two deckhands had kissed on the previous crew night out, which is more in line with the “Below Deck” drama viewers are used to.)

For “Below Deck” showrunners, the changeovers in the cast allowed them to rethink what the show would look like.

From the season premiere, it was immediately apparent that Rosbach’s absence wasn’t the only change this season: The filming is sleeker, the daily, multicourse meals prepared by the chef are given their own glamour shots and the cameras sometimes cut to the perspectives of yachties running around on deck and through the galley.

“Our showrunner, Lauren Simms, is an avid consumer of all different kinds of media,” Noah Samton, a senior vice president of unscripted current production for NBCUniversal, said in an interview. “She pitches us different ideas on how to stylistically evoke different feelings and change the mood a little bit of ‘Below Deck’ without removing what really works.”

Moving through the rest of the season, and potentially through seasons to come, Olender is aiming to bring a cutthroat management style while also bringing affection for his stews, all with his signature British humor.

On Bravo’s side, there are changes in the works for the other “Below Deck” spinoffs — including “Sailing Yacht,” “Mediterranean” and “Down Under” — which collectively, have 26 seasons. Specifically, Samton said that “Down Under” is currently filming and that even though fans should be ready to see new things, the show will stay true to its original concept.

“These are real yachties doing a real job so you have to stay within those confines because the audience isn’t going to want anything that is too produced or fake,” Samton said. “So we have to find ways to reinvent while staying true to the original concept of the show.”

And as Olender said: “I’m sure that every year if I were to work with this franchise again, that I’ll be thrown a collection of total chaotic and disastrous stews — that’s what makes it watchable.”

10 Below Deck Charter Guests Who Will Never Return To The Franchise

  • Some charter guests on Below Deck have caused unnecessary drama and won't likely return due to bad behavior.
  • Captain Glenn Shephard from Below Deck Sailing Yacht faced backlash from Barrie, who called him two-faced.
  • Former guest Dr. Francis Martinis will not return to Below Deck after he was arrested for faking prescriptions.

The Below Deck franchise has featured many charter guests since 2013, many of whom will never return . The Bravo series focuses on expensive charters with wealthy guests who have attitude problems and over-the-top demands. That includes Charter guest Alexis Bellino, who boarded Captain Lee Rosbach’s yacht with her boyfriend at the time, Andy Bohn. She was disrespectful and made everyone uncomfortable with her and Andy's PDA. She even insulted crew members after featuring on the show.

Like Alexis, Delores Flora from Below Deck season 8 was a terrible guest. Not only did she misbehave, but she also got drunk and s wam while intoxicated, which is not only not allowed, it frightened the crew members. Delores got kicked out of the yacht the next day. These guests created unnecessary drama on the boat and will likely never return like a few others from the franchise.

Barrie & tony, below deck sailing yacht.

Barrie and Tony Drewitt Barlow had a decent time in the Below Deck Sailing Yacht seasons 2 and 3. Despite that, they left with a bitter taste because of Captain Glenn Shephard. In 2021, Barrie participated in a podcast, Pita Party: The Podcast , where he claimed that Captain Glenn bothered him while using his phone .

Barrie said, “he (Captain Glenn) was a two-face b*stard,” adding that he just didn’t like his presence.

Below Deck Mediterranean

In Below Deck Mediterranean season 7, Charter guest Frank Fay had a thing for second stew Kyle Viljoen. He pursued him on the yacht, but unfortunately, their relationship didn’t last. Frank will likely never return to the series as long as Captain Sandy Yawn allows Kyle to work for her. Even if Kyle quits, Frank wouldn’t want to be in an environment that would remind him of his failed relationship.

Erica Rose appeared on Below Deck Sailing Yacht two seasons in a row. Erica was highly offensive toward the crew member, as well as her husband, Charles Sanders, and to make things worse, she left the crew with a measly tip , leading fans to slam her on social media. Ultimately, Erica had to apologize for her bad attitude but never returned to give the crew the tip they deserved. Nobody on Below Deck Sailing Yacht would ever want to return.

Justin Guarini

Justin Guarini’s time on Below Deck Sailing Yacht was not dramatic at all; however, he’ll probably never return to the series. Justin wouldn’t return because he wasn't the primary guest. He joined his friend, Kim, who wanted to enjoy a luxury yacht trip. It was more of a one-and-done deal. Secondly, nobody recognized him at all. Viewers later realized who he was and how he was the runner-up on American Idol season 1. Justin is a theatre artist and has made a name for himself. However, it was embarrassing that so many fans had no clue who he was .

Below Deck: 8 Charter Guests With The Worst Attitudes

Johnny damon.

Johnny Damon’s time at Below Deck Med was full of explosive moments. Once, he sent the food back, citing that the experience wasn’t “five stars.” On another occasion, his wife, Michelle, created drama by yelling at the owner of another yacht . Overall, the experience was simply terrible on both sides. Crew members didn’t love Johnny and his wife, and the couple didn’t respect the crew members. It is unlikely that Captain Sandy would want to host the couple again as long as she’s in charge.

Krystal Murphy

Former charter guest Krystal Murphy boarded Captain Lee’s yacht with her friends. She immediately began showing red flags, drinking, and just being a menace. Krystal fought with her friend, Chelsea, creating unnecessary drama. She even passed out and punched a friend in the face. Former Chief Stew Kate Chastain disliked serving Krystal and called her a “spoiled brat;” she wanted to throw her off the yacht. Nowadays, Krystal has seemingly become a more private person. It doesn’t seem like Krystal would want to be on TV again.

Steve Bradley

Below Deck fans should remember Steve Bradley as he made many appearances on the show. In Below Deck season 3, he wanted a foam party and demanded the crew to figure it out and follow his commands, acting like a king. In Below Deck season 6, Steve made more outrageous requests. Apart from being a wild guest, Steve was entitled and acted inappropriately at times . No Below Deck captain would want to host him again as he didn't come off as very likable.

Dr. Francis Martinis

Below deck mediterranean & below deck sailing yacht.

Dr. Francis Martinis from Below Deck Med and Below Deck Sailing Yacht has a zero chance of returning. While the former charter guest didn’t have too many issues on the show, his personal life issues will stop him from appearing on Bravo again. According to TMZ , Dr. Francis and his wife, Jessica, were arrested for filling out fake prescriptions in December 2023 . The couple used the names of Below Deck stars and got caught red-handed. The Below Deck franchise would never want to welcome felons, especially when their mugshots are all over the internet.

Below Deck airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo.

Sights of Elektrostal, Moscow region

2024 Author : Harold Hamphrey | [email protected] . Last modified: 2023-12-17 10:06

In the Moscow region there is a small cozy town Elektrostal. Its sights for the most part have no historical value due to the fact that the city has a relatively small history. But for a visiting tourist or city dweller, they will be of interest. There is something to see, where to go to have an exciting leisure time.

Today the population of the city is 158 thousand people. Until the beginning of the 20th century there were several small workers' settlements here. After the opening of the electrometallurgical and equipment factories, the place began to be called the natural boundary of Calm. The construction of the railway made this settlement accessible, and workers and families flocked here to earn money. In 1925, the station was named Elektrostal, and the rapid increase in population allowed the village to receive the status of a city.

attractions elektrostal photo

The founder of the city is a prominent Russian industrialist Nikolai Vtorov. It was he who opened the plant here, creating, in fact, a city-forming enterprise that is still operating. In Soviet times, it was a closed facility, and it was not easy to get to work here.

Today Elektrostal is a promising industrial city with a great future and a heroic past. It bears the proud name "City of Military and Labor Glory".

You can learn about the sights of Elektrostal with descriptions and photos here. There are places for walking, outdoor activities and cultural development.

sights of the electric steel of the Moscow region

Those who come to the city by train are met by a monument to the metallurgist. It was installed in November 2017 for the 100th anniversary of the Elektrostal plant. The attraction is made in the style of constructivism. The monument quickly won the love of the townspeople, because this city is supported by ordinary workers.

Elektrostal attractions photo with description

Elektrost altsy and the founding father of the plant, Nikolai Vtorov, are honored. In 2002, a monument was opened in honor of him, which became a landmark of the city of Elektrostal. The bronze sculpture is installed on the site where once stood a monument to the leader of the world proletariat, V. I. Lenin. Times change, characters change. Today, the plant, founded a century ago, is the largest in Russia. Vtorov himself, whose fortune was estimated at 60 million rubles in gold, according to Forbes magazine, was the owner of the largest capital at the beginning of the century. He was a banker, an industrialist, an entrepreneur, a man of action.

The monument was erected byinitiative of the townspeople who wished to perpetuate the monument to the great man.

One of the popular places for spending weekends and evenings among citizens and guests of the city is the Park of Culture and Leisure. Here you can ride attractions for children and adults, play slot machines, rollerblade or bike. The park is divided into two zones. Fans of unhurried walks in the fresh air make a promenade on the Quiet Alley, and those who prefer outdoor activities flock to the Entertainment Alley. The park has a summer stage, where concerts and cafes are regularly held.

Elektrostal attractions

Until 1999, there was no central museum among the attractions of Elektrostal in the Moscow Region. The expositions were exhibited in schools, the house of culture, in factory museums. The city was closed, so there was no large influx of tourists and visitors. The appearance of the historical and art museum made it possible for residents and guests of the city to learn a lot of useful information about their native land, the formation of the production process, and the difficult years of the war. The exposition consists of paintings by local artists, historical artifacts, household items, documents, books and much more. The collection is updated regularly. It also hosts outdoor exhibitions, which are always popular with the townspeople.

One of the main attractions of Elektrostal, the photo of which is available to almost every resident or visitor, is the Main Alley. On herpassers-by like to stroll along shady paths, townspeople rest by the fountain after a hard shift at the plant. Flower beds are the decoration of the alley. In 2006, a flower festival was held here for the first time, which has become traditional. Each enterprise of the city and private individuals give residents a real composition of fresh flowers, which pleases with bright colors all summer long. A riot of colors, aromas and a flight of fantasy reigns here. Walking through the park, you can see Snow White with a basket, a bright well, a multi-tiered cake made from fresh flowers, hearts of lovers or a fabulous house. It is almost impossible not to take a photo against the background of these compositions.

There is a cultural center in the city. It hosts performances by local creative teams and visiting stars, performances and circus performances.

In 1971, the ice palace "Crystal" was opened in the city. Almost immediately, a children's and youth hockey team was organized, which gained sports fame. This is the home sports arena for the Elektrostal hockey team. Matches of different levels are held on the ice.

There are sections for children who go in for hockey or figure skating. Citizens come here with their families to cheer for their favorite team or go ice skating.

Elektrostal is a city with a heroic past. During the war years, more than 12 thousand citizens came to the recruiting station and went to the front to defend their homeland. Almost 4 thousand of them did not return from the battle. To these heroesdedicated to the memorial complex with the inextinguishable Eternal Flame, opened in 1968

But the electricians took part in the war in Afghanistan and Chechnya. By decision of the city authorities, their memory is also immortalized in the memorial complex.

It has become a good tradition for newlyweds to lay flowers at this monument.

attractions of the city of Elektrostal

In 1999, a museum and exhibition complex was opened in the city, where, in addition to the exhibition hall, there are numerous circles for children, classes for young people, and a creative workshop. Various festivals, exhibitions, city holidays and other events are held within the walls and on the territory of the complex, which attract many spectators.

Elektrostal attractions

Listing the sights of Elektrostal, it is impossible not to mention the temples. There are several of them in the city: the church of St. John of Kronstadt, St. Andrew's Church, the hospital church of St. Panteleimon. Another new church is being built. In appearance, the temples look ancient, monumental, in the Novgorod style. But they were all built at the end of the 20th century.

Let there be no ancient artifacts among the sights of Elektrostal. But on the other hand, all of them are connected with the history of the city, with everyday work and military exploits of ordinary residents.
