Luxury goods giant LVMH has just unveiled their newest creation for wealthy people: the M Class Princess Superyachts at the London International Boat Show. LVMH has acquired the UK-based yacht builder Princess Yachts back in 2008 and for the premiere of their first yacht of the series, the 32M, the company brought in some of its other brands such as Fendi, De Beers and Moet to demonstrated the glamour of the new range of Princess yachts.

First into production is the 105-ft 32M, truly worthy of the world class LVMH imprimatur, that’s going to have a base price of about $11 million. This long range cruising yacht boasts a huge saloon among other amenities and it will be available with a choice of four or five cabins, including a master suite with a split level bathroom, two or three double bedrooms and a twin room.

At the London International Boat Show the new Princess 32M yacht showcased lavish interior design schemes from fashion houses Fendi and Armani Casa for a haute couture on the high seas feel. LVMH also plans to launch a 40 metre version in 2012 with even more luxurious bells and whistles, like a matching set of Louis Vuitton luggage, for example.

PARIS — LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton is sailing into new luxury waters and buying a famous Dutch maker of custom megayachts priced at $30 million and up.

The French luxury giant said late Monday it signed an exclusive agreement to acquire Royal van Lent from Egeria, an investment firm based in the Netherlands.

A designer and builder of yachts more than 160 feet in length and sold under the Feadship brand, Royal van Lent has seen worldwide orders for the category grow more than 20 percent annually since 2000, according to LVMH.

Market sources estimate Royal generates annual revenues at north of 100 million euros, or $146 million at current exchange rates, and its production output at about five ships per year.

Financial terms were not disclosed, however an LVMH spokesman pegged the purchase price at 11 times net results — a reasonable multiple for the luxury sector.

In a statement, LVMH touted an “outstanding growth opportunity that is resistant to economic cycles” and a chance for the group to expand its reach beyond its core business groups: fashion and leather goods; perfumes and cosmetics; watches and jewelry; wines and spirits, and specialty retail.

LVMH said it would leverage its high-end client network and global reach to accelerate the growth of Royal van Lent “while maintaining its unique heritage, exclusive positioning and exceptional craftsmanship.”

Dick van Lent, chief executive officer of Royal van Lent, is to remain at the 160-year-old company. Feadship can boast that 40 percent of its clients are return customers as a game of one-upmanship plays out in the world’s most glamorous ports of call.

Monday’s news suggests LVMH kingpin Bernard Arnault, himself the owner of a monster yacht, is once again in a mood to spend — although still not for fashion.

Last April, LVMH acquired 100 percent of fast-growing Swiss watchmaker Hublot.

France’s second richest man has also been active on various business fronts through separate investment vehicles.

Last June, L Capital 2 FCPR, an investment group sponsored by LVMH and Groupe Arnault, said it acquired more than 70 percent of Princess Yachts International plc from South African entrepreneur Graham Beck.

The same month, Financière Agache Private Equity, part of Groupe Arnault, took a 37 percent stake in Groupe Paprec, France’s leading recycler of plastics and office paper.

Breaking News

The new princess 70 is a perfectly balanced 21-meter flybridge.

The yacht brand of LVMH Group introduces Princess 70, the latest addition to the Flybridge range. It’s a blend of many factors, which make it a balanced yacht with a spacious and proportioned sundeck.

Entering the large range of models of the English boatbuilder, the Princess 70 is the largest in the F family . The exterior lines carry the unmistakable family feeling underlined by the shape of the hull portholes (actually they’re windows). Of course it’s not all about elegance or sleekness: one of the requirements of the project was the chance for flexible and practical living . This, and an efficient cruising capability .

Let’s start from the top

The 26 sqm flybridge features a large U-shaped dining area , served by a wet bar with barbecue. To aft, a sunpad and a forward seating area adjacent to the helm that also converts into a sunbed.

Princess 70 has been designed for enjoyment and efficiency, and should reach 36 knots with two 1400 HP engines

On the foredeck, where the privacy is granted, there is a forward facing sofa and table, as well as a large sun pad . The lower deck boasts 4 cabins , including a full beam master to aft with a dedicated private staircase, a forward VIP guest cabin and 2 twin cabins. Given the size of the yacht, 4 heads were not possible so the third one will serve two cabins. The aforementioned portholes, which in fact can be deemed proper windows, run all around the hull sides and ensure the cabins are bright and well ventilated. To the extreme aft a crew cabin has its own heads.

The variable deadrise of the Flybridge class has so far been a guarantee of enjoyment and efficiency, as the shape provides high lift and low drag , enabling the yacht to achieve lower planing speeds. Princess 70 has been designed following this path, and should reach 36 knots with a couple of MAN V12 1400 HP engines. A fuel capacity of 4,100 liters ensures a pretty long cruising   range , widening the options when leaving the port.

Princess 70 will be officially launched in September at the 2018 Cannes Yachting Festival , where also the sporty V60 should be on display.

US fund KPS Capital sails in for luxury yacht firm

Princess Yachts turns over an estimated £300 million a year

The biggest builder of luxury yachts in Britain is on the verge of being bought by a US private equity firm.

Princess Yachts, based in Plymouth, is being sold to KPS Capital Partners, a New York fund which focuses on manufacturing.

A deal could be confirmed later this week, according to Sky News, which first reported the talks.

Princess has been owned since 2008 by L Catterton, a private equity firm that is backed by Bernard Arnault, the multibillionaire behind the LVMH luxury goods empire. It is more focused on consumer goods and, among others, it has backed Cazoo, the online car dealer, and Ole & Steen bakeries.

KPS is the former owner of Taylormade, the golf brand, which it bought from Adidas in 2017 and sold four years later. Among its investments is Life Fitness, the maker of exercise bikes and treadmills.

Princess was founded in 1965 and turns over an estimated £300 million a year. Its boats have become a status symbol for the world’s super-rich, although it has still faced financial struggles in recent years.

It employs about 3,200 people at its boatyards in Plymouth, where it builds 200 or so yachts a year. Its smaller yachts start at less than £1 million, but the largest, most luxurious boats fetch upwards of £10 million. L Catterton put it up for sale last year.

Review: Princess 75 Motor Yacht

The all-new Princess 75 Motor Yacht is a trendsetter that will influence future models.

princess yachts lvmh

The world-wide launch for this star of the Princess lineup was at the London Boat Show earlier this year, and her first in-water display was in Asia at the Singapore Yacht Show in April.

Princess has long staked their reputation on the seaworthiness of their designs. Now, the dynamic new styling of the Princess 75 makes a good product even more elegant, and offers increased cruising efficiency. The modified deep-V hull is both efficient and stable, and allows the yacht to plane at lower speeds. The yacht comes with a choice of three different engines, and can reach speeds of up to 36 knots with twin MAN V12 1800hp engines.

The elegant exterior artfully conceals a voluminous interior, where natural light flows into the main saloon, creating an informal, calm, and relaxed atmosphere. The extended window lines, in conjunction with the unique full-height window on the port side, make this area a spectacular free standing dining space. Comfortable sofa seating is paired with a full entertainment centre featuring a 50-inch LED television, DVD player, and MP3 system with clear and crisp surround sound.

A very special custom feature in the saloon of the first Princess 75 Motor Yacht is a bespoke humidor cabinet, and a bar box designed by Linley – Princess believe that they have found “a great synergy in Linley’s sophisticated skills, craftsmanship and design, particularly their unparalleled expertise in marquetry, and selection and hand dying of veneers.” The Linley for Princess Bar Box opens to reveal an immaculately designed interior stocked with Linley Trafalgar crystal and bar accessories.

The VIP accommodation is forward, on the lower deck, with all of the three guest cabins sporting their own en suites. The guest cabins can be configured either as doubles or with twin beds –  simply by pressing a button. The rooms also include specialist storage lockers, wardrobes, and stylish bedside tables.

To date, six Princess 75 motor yachts have been delivered, are in build, or on order, with a number of the units being from the original layouts presented by Princess. The company has produced a large yacht that is fast and fuel-efficient, giving a comfortable ride at high speeds up to 36 knots dependent upon the engine configuration. This package brings with it confidence on long cruises – and the fuel capacity of 1,300 gallons provides a good range. Collectively, this means a mix of performance and cruising ability that few, if any, in its class can match.

Taking the Princess 75 Motor Yacht as a whole, it is difficult to find a fault. The policy of listening to feedback from owners – coupled with attention to detail and rigorous quality control, and the production of so much of every yacht in-house – is certainly paying dividends. The 75 provides Princess with a cruising platform that meets most, if not all, the needs of a buyer, and sets a much-raised bar for future models from this UK manufacturer.

The electrically controlled sunroof is massive, and when opened, it lets in the light or opens up the view of the night sky. With large windows lining the salon and the aft door open, a V-Class yacht allows you to enjoy the comforts of being inside coupled with the fun of the outdoors. The V50 is one of the most recent models to be unveiled.

Princess Yachts X95

The Princess X95 has opened a new chapter and model series for this luxury yacht builder. The Princess X95 is also called a "super flybridge," describing the extra-long bridge deck that is equivalent to the same size as the main deck. The super flybridge features a fully enclosed skybridge lounge as well as the traditional outdoor socializing areas. The newest model in the range, the X80, is equally as equipped as its larger sibling and can reach speeds of more than 30 knots.

Princess Yachts Y95

The Princess Y-Class models are larger open flybridge yachts, similar to the F-Class, but they range from 72 to 95 feet. ABOUT PRINCESS YACHTS

The Princess Yachts story began in 1963 in Plymouth, England, when a group of friends, including an ex-naval officer named David King, decided to form a company called Marine Projects in an effort to build a superior cruising boat. With an old 31-foot mold and a rented shed, the team managed to launch their very first model, dubbed Project 31. Over the next several years, they worked to improve their operation, and in 1969, Marine Projects launched the Princess 32, the first model to bear the name. It was just one of many changes that would evolve the Princess brand into what we know it to be today.

In 1995, a relationship was forged between the Viking Yacht Company in New Gretna, NJ, and the Princess Yachts Limited factory in England. The goal was to bring the Princess style of luxury cruising yachts to the American market, backed by the well-known reputation of Viking yachts. This new style of sport yacht became known as Viking Sport Cruisers, which were built in the same process as the Princess yachts but with differences integrated for the U.S. market. For instance, Princess yachts in America have larger refrigeration, more horsepower in the engines, and converted electrical systems for components on board.

Much has changed since the launch of the first Viking Sport Cruisers back in 1996, including the purchase of Princess Yachts by the world-renowned LVMH. The LVMH group owns more than 60 of the top companies worldwide, including Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Feadship Yachts, and De Beers. Then, in 2022, Princess was sold to KPS Capital Partners, a private equity firm based in the United States. KPS also owns the Life Fitness athletic equipment company, which it purchased from Brunswick.

Every employee at the Princess Yachts shipyard in Plymouth is touted as a skilled crafter in their trade, and there are multiple generations of families that have all become part of the Princess family. With an experienced workforce and all of the finishes done in-house, Princess Yachts is able to maintain a very high level of quality control not seen at most yacht-builders. The deep-V hull that Princess has become synonymous with over the years continues to be the mainstay in design, although production technology has continued to improve, as has the level of performance. It's no wonder, then, why Princess uses the tagline "Experience the exceptional." One visit to the Princess boat factory with the team from SI Yachts can make your choice very clear. You can expect an exceptional level of quality from a new Princess yacht, and when you buy a Princess yacht from us, you'll be buying from one of the best support teams in the industry.

WHERE ARE PRINCESS YACHTS BUILT?

The Princess shipyard is located on Newport Street in Plymouth, England, next to Stonehouse Bridge. The entire factory covers more than 1.1 million square feet and is conveniently located on the River Tamar, with access out to deeper water in the English Channel. Today, Princess employs more than 3,000 people at its facilities in Plymouth.

The biggest Princess yacht for sale today is the new Y95 . The length overall of the Y95 is 95 feet 4 inches. This is 2 inches larger than the X95. The Y95 also has a larger beam of 22 feet 3 inches.

WHAT IS THE SMALLEST PRINCESS BUILT TODAY?

The smallest new Princess yacht built today is the V40 , which is easy for an owner to operate without the need for a professional captain. Joystick control combined with the deep-V hull design make driving and docking the V40 easy for all on board. The length overall for the V40 is 42 feet 6 inches, and it has a beam of 12 feet 5 inches.

HOW MUCH DO PRINCESS YACHTS COST?

Princess luxury yachts are typically more expensive than your average boat in similar size ranges because of the high quality, attention to detail, top-of-the-line power systems, equipment choices, and customization options. With models ranging from 40 to 95 feet, the price ranges also vary considerably. The new Princess Y95 can easily cost $11 million depending on engine options and other equipment. But one of the smallest models, the Princess F45 , can cost $1 million, depending upon the same decisions by the owner regarding options and equipment.
