The need for a license will depend on the type of boat you want to hire and where you want to go. There are several considerations when it comes to a license.

• If you want to take a self-drive boat out to the islands and Whitehaven Beach with Airlie Beach Boat Hire, you need one person to hold a valid boat license – National or International.
• Unlicensed boats can be hired through Airlie Beach Boat Hire to fish and sightsee in designated areas. Please note that if you hire a day boat without a license, you can’t go to the islands.
• If you hire a bareboat from a yacht charter company in the Whitsundays, you do not need a license or sailing qualifications.

Do I need sailing experience to go on a bareboat charter?

We do suggest that one person on your charter has some basic boating knowledge and we are required to have at least two crew members over the age of 18 on each vessel.

Our experienced staff will support you all the way, helping plan your itinerary, giving you a comprehensive briefing on how to operate your vessel and staying in regular contact over VHF radio.

If you are feeling unsure about your sailing experience or your ability to handle a boat, you can hire a sail guide for an hourly or daily rate to make sure you’re confident with skippering the boat yourself.

The Ackinclose Family

This was the holiday of a lifetime. When we returned, we immediately got off the boat and walked straight into the office to book again for the following year.

We had an absolute blast. And really the boat was the centre piece of that. It was everything we could have asked for; spacious, luxurious, comfortable, plenty of water storage and fridge/freezer space, room to spread out, great cooking facilities, plenty of lounging areas and a hot shower and comfy bed at the end of every day.

Perhaps most importantly it allowed us to ‘choose our own adventure’! This holiday had it all…. turquoise waters, swimming, snorkeling, fishing, isolated beaches, white sand, incredible walks, beach combing, whales, dolphins, turtles, tropical fish, and some high sea adventures! It’s one thing to visit the Whitsundays, it’s another altogether to holiday ON the Whitsundays. Being on the water 24/7 is an experience unlike any other… it was pure joy!

We loved being on our own (the perfect covid safe holiday really!), enjoying each others company and everyday being an adventure. Not to mention relaxing and unwinding with the most amazing scenery and sunsets. This is a holiday you and your children will remember forever!

Thank you again to the Whitsunday Escape Crew for another amazing experience in the magnificent Whitsundays. We had a wonderful 10 days onboard the Seawind 1260 Volare, which kicked off with a great brief by Amee who was very thorough and very knowledgeable about operating Volare safely.

Whether you want to know where the best place to overnight for the conditions, or if you need some advice about the boat, they will always go the extra mile to ensure you have the best holiday possible. Shoutout to Jordans mobile outboard repairs that paid us a quick visit in Stonehaven to help sort us out.

The absolute highlight for this trip was the time we had all of Whitehaven Beach entirely to ourselves for a few hours on a sunny afternoon. A magical moment that is unlikely to be repeated.

We’re already booked in for our next charter with Whitsunday Escape over Christmas and can’t wait to get back up there.

The catamaran was very clean and sleeping quarters were pretty comfortable. Because it was a private charter we were allowed to party and really make it our own space. Welcome to Wings III, the perfect vessel for an all-inclusive overnight charter holiday. A 60ft custom built catamaran with a spacious and comfortable interior, designed to make you feel right at home. All modern amenities you need for a relaxing getaway on floating unique holiday accommodation!

Why stay in a hotel when you can sleep on a floating resort style hotel boasting 360 degree views of the tropical Whitsunday Islands everyday! The fully air conditioned catamaran has 1 aft private double cabin and 2 forward large family cabin areas suitable for just 2 or up to 6 guests. There are 2 large bathrooms on either hull side of the vessel and one on the spacious covered back deck area.

Whitsundays, Airlie Beach private charter yacht for sunset cruises around Pioneer Bay catering for groups of 2 up to 25 guests. This is the perfect way to begin an evening or end a day on the Great Barrier Reef in Airlie Beach sailing under an azure sunset in the Whitsundays on a luxury yacht.

Our private charter sunset sailing tours depart Airlie Beach and sail around the Whitsundays in Pioneer Bay for 1.5 hours or longer as guests are served drinks and a few nibbles as they admire the views of the local islands and the waters of the Great Barrier Reef sail by.

Sunsets in Queensland are brilliant especially when you are on a 12 metre private charter yacht with your group of friends, family, work group or corporate get together.

Over the years we have hosted many fun Christmas parties, hens parties, bucks parties, birthdays and special family group get togethers on our Whitsundays and Airlie Beach sunset private yacht charters.

We limit our private charter yacht number to a maximum of only 25 guests to ensure we provide a high quality personalised service to our guests.
