At Borrow A Boat we’re on a mission to make boating more accessible and to make it easier for you to get on the water. We believe boating should be available to everyone, and we can help the boating industry, boat owners, marinas, and everyone who wants to go boating by providing a 21st-century boating marketplace. Borrow A Boat is the best place to find and rent boats of all sorts, from a canal and riverboats across Europe to a sailing boat, motor yacht, catamaran across North America, the Mediterranean and Caribbean and further afield, along with some of the world’s most impressive superyachts and luxury yacht charters.

Catamarans are the fastest growing type of charter yacht at the moment and once you’ve sailed on one it’s easy to see why. In terms of your ideal catamaran charter think of locations like Thailand, the Ionian Islands, BVI (British Virgin Islands), Croatian Adriatic, Ibiza, French riviera and Mallorca for your sailing adventure.

Types of Catamarans Available For Rent Or Charter In Turkey:

When searching a geographical area on Borrow A Boat you can filter by the below boat types. There is also the option to further filter your searches by price, the number of guests, cabins or bathrooms, what year the catamaran yacht was launched, the boat length and the boat manufacturer.

Types of Catamarans Available:

Sailing Catamarans : Sailing catamaran yachts are stable and spacious, with quick sailing performance, and and have been gaining in popularity in recent years. Better for larger groups, they have lots of room for water toys, and are big enough for a little privacy. A catamaran charter is easy and comfortable for novices not used to heeling and are loved by families due to their extra space when compared to a monohull sailing yacht. Typically far more luxurious than a sailboat the larger catamarans have en suite toilets and showers in the cabin as well as ample entertaining space in the saloon and on deck.

Power Catamaran : These motor boat are relatively new but have also been gaining in popularity as the two hulls keep the boat more stable when compared to a monohull. The wider beam also means more deck space and as they don’t have sails or a mast, they have a lot more space on deck than a sailing catamaran rental or monohull. For a luxury catamaran charter, consider taking a crewed catamaran charter sailing vacation with an experienced skipper.

Catamaran Sailing Areas In Turkey

Whether on a crewed gulet charter or bareboat catamaran charter in Turkey, there is a lot of choice when it comes to your catamaran sailing holiday.

With Gocek and Fethiye the main centres, the western Lycian coast is one where you can go on a relatively quiet and laid back Turkey private yacht charter. A large natural bay mostly sheltered from the prevailing Meltemi winds, you will find quiet anchorages like Kapi Creek and moor in a secluded bay such as Wall Bay or Cold Water Bay, with one restaurant and only goats for company. Sail along the coastline and explore the beautiful Turkish coast, wandering sandy beaches all to yourself.

Bounded by the busy towns of Marmaris and Bodrum, the Turquoise Coast (aka the Turkish Riviera) is going to be a yacht chartering holiday with a bit more of a pulse! Bodrum is a very traditional holiday resort and popular with the country’s elite, and Marmaris is an important port for the country. Our team would be happy to help plan your Turkey yacht charter itinerary

Based in Istanbul, a Marmara Sea yacht charter is one where you will be able to sail between the continents of Europe and Asia in a short hop. this part of the Turkish coastline is an ancient border of civilisations you will enjoy the cultural attractions from the timeless city of Istanbul to island hopping around Marmara Adasi.

Crewed Catamaran Charter or Bareboat:

When it comes to a Turkey catamaran charter you typically have two choices - bareboat or crewed charter.

When using Borrow A Boat you can filter all catamaran searches to be with or without skipper depending on what charter yachts you are looking for and below we cover some of the main points to consider for your catamaran hire.

*Blue Cruise / Gulet charter:* You can do a crewed, blue cruise catamaran charter in Turkey. This form of luxury yacht charter gives you the advantage of being able to get afloat without having to invest in getting sailing qualifications beforehand. For a luxury gulet you will pay a fixed fee for the crew and skipper as well as their food and a tip at the end.

When you get to a luxury yacht charter with crew these prices will increase and costs also depend on where you plan to sail to along with the size and type of yacht rental on your sailing holiday.

In some cases, skippers will also be the boat owner (typically day charter) which means they will know all the best - secluded beaches to show you the best that the area has to offer with their local knowledge.

For day trips you will often be able to use a skipper as well and prices will vary depending on the type of charter boat.

*Bareboat* *Catamaran Charter:* For skilled sailors, a bareboat yacht charter is cheaper and gives more privacy for you and your charter guests. Many sailors prefer to be helming the charter yacht while choosing their own course, and provided you have the knowledge and relevant qualifications you can skipper these boats yourself.

Do You Need A Licence To Charter A Catamaran In Turkey

If you are on a crewed Turkey catamaran charter you do not need a license to sail - you can just turn up at the marina and go.

You do need a license if you are on a bareboat yacht charter and in some countries a day skipper or ICC may not be enough for boats over 45 feet in length, you will need to check with the charter agent but here are some examples of typical sailing qualifications that will allow you to charter in most countries:

*International Certificate of Competence:* **This is issued on request by your European sailing authority and you should automatically qualify with certain national sailing qualifications.

*RYA Qualifications:* If you have the following qualifications you will typically be able to take a bareboat charter out of Thailand (but it is worth checking as per above), these include Day Skipper**, Coastal Skipper** (**sail or motor endorsement) or Yachtmaster.*

*American* *Sailing* *Association (ASA):* The ASA 104 Bareboat certificate is commonly accepted but also check as per above

*US Sailing:* The International Proficiency Certificate is widely accepted and The Bareboat Cruising Certificate is also accepted in many cases.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should i consider when hiring a catamaran.

The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it’s not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.

Do you have to pay a deposit when hiring a Catamaran in Turkey?

You will typically pay 50% up front on booking the catamaran hire and the balance on arrival. You will either pay a security deposit with your credit card on departure or can get insurance covering damage in advance. In some cases (such as the recent Covid situation) charter companies may be more flexible but this depends on the individual charter companies themselves.

What happens if my Catamaran breaks down?

If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16 or ring the coast guard on your phone if you have reception. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to or are on a mooring you will be able to phone a help line number given by the boat charter company and they can typically send someone from the charter base

What should I think of before I hire a Catamaran in Turkey?

You should consider do you have the experience to handle the catamaran before you book and where do you want to go along with what the weather will be like. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool in the evenings.

What Qualifications Do I need to hire a Catamaran?

If you want to sail without a skipper then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC)/ASA 104 Bareboat certificate or the US Sailing Certificate. If you choose to have a skipper on board your catamaran you won’t require licences.

Turkey’s history stretches back over 5,000 years, and represents a unique blend of eastern and western cultures, boasting a rich archaeological legacy left over from classical civilizations and Islamic Middle East, with several locations of cultural significance now designated UNESCO Heritage sites.

Its strategic position between Europe and Asia has seen it act as both a conduit and barrier simultaneously between the two continents of Asia and Europe over the years. Over the centuries Turkey became more secular and Western-orientated, culminating in a reform of the Turkish language.

As a popular destinations for yacht charters in the East Mediterranean, there should be ample to choose from when it comes to crewed yachts for charter in Turkey. If you’re unsure about whether you want to book a gulet, motor or sailing yacht for your luxury getaway, there are a few things you should consider first.

Gulet Yacht Charters in Turkey

Gulet charter cruising Turkish waters

Making up the majority of the fleet in this country, a luxury gulet in Turkey can provide guests with an excellent crewed charter experience to explore secluded coves and ancient ruins in a more cost-effective manner, with a vast amount of deck space on board. Expect capped air condition times, specific hours of cruising included in the price and lower APA costs as you are mostly in bays, but expect higher fees for ports.

Motor Yacht Charters in Turkey

Guests can also select from a fleet of luxury motor yachts  in Turkey, mostly located in Bodrum, Göcek , Fethiye , Marmaris , and Bozburun . Complete with larger interior volumes, more powerful engines as well as better amenities on offer, it's a sumptuous alternative to gulets. However, this is usually paired with higher charter costs.

Gulet yachts anchored in a sheltered cove in Turkey

The majority of yacht charters in Turkey commence in the country’s southwestern marinas thanks to the excellent provision of facilities, unparalleled scenery, and convenient location to both regional and international airports. Vibrant Bodrum , the picturesque fishing village of Göcek , or the enchanting Çeşme , Marmaris , Fethiye , or Antalya are all chartering favorites.

For a less obvious starting point, you could choose the tranquil bliss of the Bosphorus strait near Istanbul . However, keep in mind you will have fewer charter options available in this area.

Bodrum and Marmaris are popular points to end a Turkey yacht charter, thanks to their excellent array of facilities and close proximity to international airports.

The Turkish Riviera (also charmingly known as the Turquoise Coast thanks to its vividly-colored waters) comprising southwestern destinations like Fethiye , Marmaris , and Bodrum,   is by far the most popular area for chartering.

Fethiye Yacht Charters

Aerial view of Blue Lagoon, yacht charter

Many begin a yacht charter in Fethiye , thanks to its convenient location to Marmaris and Bodrum in the north. Dominated by soaring cedar trees and pine-carpeted cliffs that tumble into clear blue waters, it's flecked with archaeological ruins and uninhabited islands, with plenty of bays to take toys for a spin.  Fethiye  yacht charters are also a great base for visiting one of Turkey’s most jaw-dropping beautiful beaches, Ölüdeniz (Blue Lagoon).

Göcek Yacht Charters

Beautiful mountain backdrop at Gocek bay Turkey

Göcek yacht rentals have been long adored by international jet setters. This fishing village located on a private bay is the entry to undiscovered coves and more than 12 islands of unmatched beauty. Boasting six well-equipped marinas (including two for superyachts) it’s brimming with cafes and tavernas. Before going off-shore, stop by for a traditional mezze platter or sip a cocktail as the sun's apricot glow falls on its shorefront promenades.

Marmaris Yacht Charters

A Marmaris yacht charter gives guests the best of both worlds. A superyacht haven, this buzzing town is a hub of activity: with a bustling grand bazaar, throngs of restaurants, bars, and shops lining cobblestone streets, and paragliders filling the skies above. But this is in dramatic contrast to the rest of the stunning Carian Coast which is within easy reach of Marmaris : secluded bays and quaint villages are dotted all along the Bozburun Peninsula .

Bodrum Yacht Charters

Billowin bougainvillea on a street corner in Bodrum Turkey

Why are Bodrum yacht rentals so popular? It's a vibrant coastal city humming with nightlife and home to a large glittering marina as well as the landmark St. Peter’s Castle. Unquestionably a glamorous beach hangout, hip restaurants and bars sheltered by palm trees frame the chic Yalikavak marina.

During a Bodrum yacht charter, be sure to anchor at nearby Türkbükü Bay for a taste of the “Saint-Tropez of Turkey" and dance under a canopy of stars. Cruise further afield and you’ll reach the olive-grove covered Datça Peninsula , as well as the Dalyan- Ekincik  Bay, revered for its windsurfing opportunities.

Yachts moored in a marina in Turkey with verdant hills in the background

Surrounded by the Mediterranean , Aegean , Marmara , and Black Seas , it should come as no surprise that Turkey is home to a vast array of world-class marinas perfect for gulet or yacht chartering. It should be noted that whilst the Black Sea is replete with deep valleys, verdant mountains, and crater lakes, it does not usually feature on a typical yacht itinerary. That’s largely down to its wetter and colder climate, leading to few well-developed marinas. As a result, it does not feature in our list below.

For yacht charters on Turkey's Mediterranean Coast:

  • Kaş marina : recently developed and has slip capacity for 450 yachts.
  • Setur Finike marina: situated in the stunning historic city of Finike, with a 320 slip capacity.
  • Setur Antalya marina : renowned superyacht marina, slip capacity reaches 235 yachts.

For yacht charters on Turkey's Aegean Coast:

  • Yalıkavak marina : award-winning with 620-slip capacity, catering to every possible yachting need.
  • Çeşme marina: located in the illustrious port village steeped with history,  it can accommodate 400 slips up to 80m.
  • Skopea marina : regarded as the original superyacht marina, it accommodates up to 80 yachts, with 110m yachts tied to a jetty.

For yacht charters in Turkey's Marmara Region:

  • Ataköy marina: just outside of Istanbul's city center and known for its nightlife. 700 moorings up to 40m.
  • Istanbul marina : located in the heart of Turkey, with 720 moorings for yachts up to 60m.
  • West Istanbul marina: highly acclaimed, it caters to 600 slips up to 95m.

The Turquoise Coast is unquestionably Turkey's anchorage paradise, studded with emerald islands with golden bays lapped by beautiful blue-green waters begging to be explored. Here is our pick of some of the best anchorages in Turkey:

  • Cleopatra Bay (Manastir) : located a stone’s throw from the beautiful town of Fethiye, this glorious sequestered bay yields a bounty of emerald-clear waters atop ancient baths, perfect for anchoring and an afternoon kayak.
  • Fethiye : This port city is known for its exquisite natural harbor, vast swathes of deep golden sand beaches and stunning blue waters. The area also boasts an array of ancient rock tombs dating back to 4th Century BC.
  • Kalcan (Lycian Coast) : a gorgeous sheltered bay set within a charming fishing village against a backdrop of rugged mountainous scenery. Step ashore and explore this tranquil haven, which also boasts a plethora of excellent dining options.
  • Kekova (Antalya province) : this beautiful small island near Kas is the ideal spot to drop anchor for the night, which also happens to be the site of a rather unique ancient sunken city. Although a popular hotspot for tourists during the day, if you aim to arrive around 5pm, you’ll have the place to yourselves.

Turkey Yacht Charter Q&A

For booking most yacht charters, a completed charter agreement and 50% of the charter fee is required upfront as a deposit to secure your chosen yacht. This is usually payable once the contract has been signed

Turkey is an increasingly popular superyacht destination, so yacht charter guests can rest assured that they will have boundless vessel options which will meet their budget criteria.

Whatever type of vessel you ultimately choose, one thing to keep track of are the additional costs not included in the yacht charter base rate. For example, VAT and the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance). This is usually 30% of the charter fee, and paid in advance. The APA covers expenses such as fuel, berthing, food and drinks, as well as any special requests.

However, gulet charters usually have lower APAs. For personalized advice please consult your yacht charter broker.

Not sure whether to pick a motor yacht, sailing yacht or gulet? Browse our site according to your chosen dates, number of guests, yacht type, features, and preferred onboard toys and we'll show you what's available and within your budget.

If you make a subsequent enquiry, a yacht charter broker will get in contact to provide you with a bespoke charter proposal.

Alternatively, get in touch with your  yacht charter broker directly and they can research the best yacht for you in line with your requirements.

The vast majority of yacht charters commence in southwest Turkey, with the most popular superyacht locations being Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye, Göcek and Antalya.

Unlike many yacht charter destinations, you also have the option of a gulet charter in Turkey. It is well worth considering if it may be right for you. Benefits include lower APA costs and considerably wide decks onboard to lap up turquoise-tinged panoramas that surround you. However, capped fuel limits and air conditioning times are common to gulet yacht charters.

Yes, it is possible to visit Greece on a luxury Turkey yacht charter. However, additional VAT and fees may apply if venturing outside Turkish waters. It is also worth noting that for convenience, it can often be better to visit Turkey and then Greece or vice versa, rather than zig-zag between the two. That's because you will need to provide documentation every time you cross borders which can be time-consuming.

For precise details regarding fees and routes to Greece, consult your charter broker.

Rent a Catamaran in Turkey in a few minutes!

BednBlue Guarantee

A catamaran charter is a fantastic way to explore Turkey and its impressively long coastline. With a length that spans over 8,000 km and is bordered by The Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, the Aegean Sea, and the Marmara Sea, you cannot miss the chance to enjoy a catamaran rental in Turkey. Turkey has numerous well-equipped marinas, where you can easily find the ideal yacht of your choice. You can directly contact the owners for the ideal catamaran or simply allow a BednBlue travel expert to guide you with some suggestions.

You have plenty of options:

You can book and hire a catamaran with a skipper--or without one, if you own a license--and enjoy a one-day cruise along the Turkish Riviera. You can also rent a catamaran with a large group and throw a party, celebrate a wedding anniversary, or arrange a business event. Finally, you can hire a luxury catamaran for a week or two, taking your time to explore Göcek, Bodrum, Antalya, and many hidden gems in the Mediterranean Sea.

Catamaran in Turkey

Turkey has many islands, pretty coves, blue-flagged beaches, and well-developed marinas, making it perfect for a sailing adventure. A memorable day trip or an afternoon cruise would be ideally spent in Istanbul. Along the Bosphorus, you can sail towards the Black Sea and find both public and private beaches. To distance yourself from the fast-paced metropolitan beat of Istanbul, you can even make your way to the Dardanelles strait, a gateway to inland Anatolia. At the tip of Anatolia, you can extend your cruise and reach Izmir or Cesme. If you prefer, you can start your trip from Canakkale, on the southern coast of Dardanelles, which gives easy access to Gallipoli, a beautiful city but also a strategic peninsula during World War I, known as the “Pearl of the Ionian Sea”.

If you want to sail Turkey in 4 days, you can’t miss the chance to explore Göcek and Bodrum. The location of Göcek has the privilege of being the deepest point in the Fethiye bay, while being sheltered by pine-clad mountains that enhance the look of the scenery as a whole. Göcek may be known for its 12 islands, but there is much more to that, by giving you ample places to explore and visit. The most popular islands in Göcek are the Yassica Islands, Göcek Island, Zeytin Island, Tersane Island, and Pig Island. Besides sailing in between these islands, you can make a stop to explore the rock tombs of the Lycian period as well as the ruins of the Byzantine monastery, near Tersane Island. There are also several beaches near Göcek town, such as the popular blue lagoon of Olu Deniz, Inlice beach, Göcek Island beaches, etc. Furthermore, the waterfront of the town is covered with various bars and restaurants, providing excellent food and leisure spots within the town.

Bodrum has long been a city with numerous passing vessels, with sailing experts and captains that plan yacht voyages across the Bodrum bay. For a 2-day cruise in Turkey, look no further than Bodrum. Bodrum has many catamarans available for those excited to enjoy an authentic island experience. It has many islands nearby, such as Karaada island, which is filled with nice healing springs in its cave.  Even Cleopatra was claimed to be using those mineral-rich mud to enhance the beauty of her skin. Nevertheless, the island is soothing and ideal for a stop. Furthermore, along with the beach of Karaada, you can visit the other islands too, which include Orak Island, Kargi Island, Kizilada Island, etc.

rent a catamaran turkey

As for beaches, you see plenty of those in Bodrum too, like Fener beach, which is best suited for water sports. However, if you want to eat at one of the best fish restaurants on the peninsula, you should then visit Gümüslük beach, as it has the best fresh fish restaurants. Lastly, if you wish to spend a calm and peaceful day at the beach, you should head toward Kadikalesi or Gumbet beach. Finally, Antalya is in southwestern Turkey. It’s very popular among many sailors who want to sail along Turkey's coast. You cannot miss the chance to visit Konyaalti beach, a famous beach with plenty of space for fun and a proud blue-flag holder. There is something for everyone who wants to explore Turkey by boat. Whether it's with a skipper or without one, a day cruise, or a week trip, you will always come back with beautiful memories.

Sailing in Turkey - Geography

Turkey, the size of France and Germany together, is located between Europe, Asia and the Middle East. It’s coastline runs 5,176 miles (8,330 km) with the Black Sea to the north, the Aegean Sea to the west and the Mediterranean to the west, plus the Bosphorus, connecting the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara. The capital of Turkey, Istanbul (or known as Constantinople before), located right on the spot – dividing or connecting Europe and Asia, is a true wealth of the Byzantine Christian and Muslim (Ottoman) Turkish heritage. It is a delightful conglomerate of numerous tourist attraction: mosques and churches, palaces and castles, Turkish bathes and bazaars. Istanbul is a pure reflection of fast-changing nation. Contrasts between old and new, high-rise modernisation and lack of adequate essentials are merely shocking. But surprisingly this striking feature enchants even more travellers to this region. Origins of the Turks The Turkish people are descendants from the tribes of Central Asian nomads or the Turkmen.

The history of Turkey is as long as that of mankind. Known as Anatolia, or as Asia Minor before, this land has seen so many ups and downs of many great civilisations ( the Persians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines an Ottomans) that it is hard to squeeze it in any narration. In the middle of the 11th century, the tribe invaded Persia, and when Baghdad fell in 1055, the powerful Great Seljuk Sultanate was declared as the centre of the Islamic world. But in 1243 it was defeated by the Mongols. During 13 and 14th centuries many Christians converted to Islam, because the Mongols offered reduced taxation for Muslims. The Mongols ruled Anatolia till 1335, then Osman founded a dynasty known as the Ottomans and created one of the most powerful empires. By the mid of 1500s, the Ottoman sultan was the central figure of Muslim world. In the 1870s, reformist movement known as the Young Ottomans began to push for a constitutional monarchy. In 1912 and 1913 the empire lost most of its remaining European possessions in the Balkan War. By 1918 only the heartland of Anatolia remained of the Ottoman Empire. In 1923 the Turkish Republic was proclaimed with the First Constitution implemented. During World War II, Turkey pursued peaceful policy and remained neutral.

Most of Turkey’s population (76 million people) follows Islam. The most devoted pray 5 times a day in mosques, while some Turkish do not go to mosques at all. Approximately 130,000 are non-Muslims, including Greek and Armenian Orthodox.

The Turkish language uses the Latin alphabet. But their greatly animated body language can deliver as much a message as a speech itself. The traditional segregation of the sexes is very noticeable. You may often come across groups of men sitting around smoking, drinking endless cups of tea, playing cards or dominos. Numerous festivals, where food and drinks play a central role, demonstrate sincere hospitality and generosity. The age-old Turkish traditions demand absolute respect of elders and cherish their children as national treasures.

The outcome of this country’s long and sometimes violent past reflects itself in its art and architecture and also alters or introduces its traditions and customs. Many peoples, among them Jews, Russians, Armenians, Greek and others have played an important part in Turkey ‘s complex history. It can be seen in mosaics and frescoes, colourful tile work, city walls, fortress and biblical sights.

Customs and traditions.

The Turkish customs, passed from generation to generation, are well-preserved in contemporary life. The Islamic tradition to circumcise boys from the ages of seven and ten is a very lavish occasion. All men over the age of 20 are required to serve in the military forces, which is considered to be a crucial step to manhood. Wedding festivities, which take a lot of preparations of cooking, dressing and dancing are one of the most impressive rituals. Traditional dress as a colourful designed costume, always goes with decorative scarves (both for men and women), dyed with a plant extracts. The traditional crafts are mostly man-made: copper and brass ware; woodwork; hand-printed textiles; quilts, etc. For example, needle lace is an intricate floral design crocheted in silk.

Turkey is a large territory for variety of landscapes and geographical diversity: seascapes, soft beaches and rolling mountains along the Mediterranean coast and deep lush forests of the Black Sea, with vast bare areas in the eastern part. About one quarter of Turkey is covered with forest: pine, spruce and cedar, as well as deciduous trees. 80 % of the country is in active tectonic zone, and earthquakes are frequent. Cappadocia is a must see geological miracle. The hardened volcanic ash (the tuff) was weathered away, creating some majestic formations. Earlier in age even cities were constructed underground, because the softness of the tuff made it easy to build different dwellings underground.

Flora and Fauna

Turkey can surprise any naturalist with abundance of bird life (more than 440 species), larger mammals and diversity of plants. Some of this unspoiled countryside zones are declared as national parks. Each area presents different flora and fauna. The forests of the eastern provinces are habitat for bears, wolves or jackals. The Mediterranean coast grows roses, orchids, lilies, daffodils, etc. Wetlands are famous for water lilies and irises; while woodlands – peonies and jasmine.

Various range of mountains and coastal line of seaside correspondently influence climatic regions in Turkey. The Aegean and the Mediterranean will produce 84F (29C) in July and 48F (9C) in January. Winter is mostly a rainy season here. Annual precipitation in Antalya is 39 in, while the rainfall along the Black Sea is much heavier – 96 inches a year. The northeast has warm summers, but colder winters with temperatures of 16F (-9C). The central plateau has hot dry summers of 73F (23C) and chilly moist winters of 32F (0 C). The coastline of Turkey predictably delivers warm summers and mild winters, with mostly sunny days throughout the year. From May till the end of August it may be windy, but it never reaches its 25 Knots Mark. When going east the winds become weaker, thus more comfortable for sailing.

All national and regional holidays can be divided into 3 categories: Religious feasts celebrated by the Islamic people; festivities associated with events or people of historic significance; traditional festivals, usually tied with a seasonal theme. Turkey has four distinct seasons and different types of celebrations are spread accordingly. In spring there are Tulip Festival in April, Yunus Emre Culture and Art week in May, and Marmaris Race week or International Yachting Festival the 2nd week of May. In summer because of the high temperatures, there is nothing better than to be closer to the seaside. International swimming race is held near the Greek island of Meis. Kirkpinar Festival and Grease wrestling Championship is usually in the last week of June. Istanbul Music Festival is a well known event for opera, theatre and ballet lovers. Autumn is a harvesting season, no wonder there are so many festivals based on the crops: watermelon, grapes, etc. The still warm sea welcomes water sports enthusiasts. International Bodrum Cup Regatta is held in the third week of October, and limited only to few categories of wooden yachts. Race week (last week of October to first of Nov.) takes place in Marmaris and is supervised by the Turkish Sailing Federation. Second week of September will attract dance couples to six-day Tango Festival, also held in Marmaris. In winter the local museums and art galleries will give you a shelter from rain and snow. Although Christmas is ignored by the Turks, New Year’s Day is widely celebrated throughout Turkey. In the mid of January, it is worth visiting the ruined Roman theatre of Ephesus, where the Camel Wrestling Championship is held.

Conveniently surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea in the south, the Aegean Sea in the west and the Black Sea up north, it is no wonder that water sports, and especially sailing, are prevailing in this area. Besides, Turkey provides the longest sailing season in the Mediterranean. There are indeed a lot of advantages for sailors in this area. Secluded sandy bays and coves, lush forested hills, ruins of ancient dwellings – sometimes are hidden from explorers and can be discovered only by water. So, “12 Knots” will give you the opportunity to enjoy this paradise with bareboat or skippered yacht charter. Once you reach your destination - sunny weather, pristine beaches, balsamic waters – will create the most relaxing atmosphere for you. Turkey provides not only its picturesque scenery, but also upscale marinas, well- equipped with secure moorings and other useful facilities for yachts. They are well-located to make it easy to get provisions or meals at the restaurants.

One of the main yacht centres, located on the Bodrum peninsula, is a perfect spot for sailing or dinghy racing. The 15 century Castle, well visible from the harbour, houses a Museum of Underwater Archeology these days. Yalikavak, used to be a sponge-fishing port, is a good place to try local delicacies: sea beans and stuffed marrow flowers.

Marmaris, which used to be a quaint fishing village, set in a sheltered bay, is now a vibrant resort and can be easily compared to the Spanish Ibiza. Marmaris is another popular sailing and diving centre with Netsel Marina, as Turkey ‘s largest and most luxurious marinas, and several smaller ones as well. Can I rent a yacht with or without a skipper in Turkey?

What are the weather and sailing conditions like in Turkey?

When is the best time to go to turkey, what are the best ports and sailing areas in turkey.

From here, you can easily sail through Turkey to the best beaches such as Turun beach , one of the quietest for those who seek to rest on its comfortable sand, the beach of Gobun sits comfortably between two gorges or the beach of Antikum in which our photographs will seem to come to life with the mix of colors.

Other marinas of note include Marti Marina , which has a gorgeous backdrop of pine forests climbing up the mountain, and Atakoy Marina , which is very conveniently located close to the airport.  Like with Milta Bodrum Marina, this one has a full range of services , including laundry , ironing and repair services.

What to do in Turkey?

In Istanbul , there are many museums you can visit, such as the Aya Sofya Museum , one of the most beautiful buildings in the world .  Other must-see attractions include the Topkapi Palace .  This palace was once a powerful base for the Ottoman empire, but now gives you the opportunity to glimpse the life of the sultans who lived there in the past.  If you need a bit of fresh air, the surrounding gardens give you the chance to spend some time out in nature.

Restaurants in Turkey

Casual dining in Turkey:

  • Balık ekmek : A casual eatery in Istanbul where you can enjoy a delicious fish sandwich. First you sail on the sea and then you eat what it has to offer
  • Fantasia is THE go to spot in Marmaris for some delicious comfort food like pizza, fries or meaty goodness

Explore historical Turkey

Turkey is a country rich in history and culture. Obviously you can explore the Hagia Sophia , the Topkapi palace and plenty of very old mosques in Istanbul, but it’s not everything that Turkey has to offer. Ephesus is an ancient site with many well-preserved ancient Greek and Roman architecture. If you get a chance, you should definitely visit these. Göbeklitepe in eastern Turkey is a fascinating ancient site that is even older than the pyramids of Gizeh or Stonehenge. Visiting this ancient architectural masterpiece is a truly impressive experience.

Sailing conditions in Turkey

Turkey is bordering the Mediterranean in the South and the Black Sea in the North. This means easy access to the sea. You should definitely explore the many beautiful beaches this country has to offer.

Sailing season generally lasts from May until October with the summer months July and August being the warmest and busiest. Average temperatures in August are 32 degrees. Even the water temperatures can reach over 30 degrees in some parts of Turkey in July and August. Don’t expect too much or any rain during these months.

If you still want to enjoy warm temperatures, but want to avoid sailing with the masses you should opt for a boat holiday in Turkey in May or September. In September you have the advantage of the warmer water, because it was heating up during the summer.

How much does it cost to rent a boat in Turkey?

Turkey is one of the most affordable sailing destinations in the Mediterranean. Sure, you can always book an extremely luxurious yacht, but you don’t have to. There are plenty of boats available for every budget. Also keep in mind that prices will increase during high season.

What type of boat is best for sailing in Turkey?

What type of boat you choose for your sailing adventure in Turkey highly depends on the type of boat holiday you envision for yourself. However, renting a gulet in Turkey is very popular.

Rent a catamaran in Turkey

Pros of renting a catamaran in Turkey

A catamaran rental in Turkey gives you the opportunity to relax as much as you want in full comfort and style. Due to their layout, catamarans offer more space than other types of boats. You get bigger rooms and more space on deck. This is great, because you won’t feel too claustrophobic and like you’re sleeping in a tiny cabin on board a boat.

A catamaran charter in Turkey is also great for anyone who wants to be a bit more flexible. You can either set your sail and sail with the wind if it blows strong enough or drive your boat with the engine should the wind suddenly stop blowing. That way you’re never suddenly stuck in the middle of the sea.

Rent a catamaran in Turkey if you want to explore the beautiful beaches and stunning coves you can find all over Turkey. As catamarans have a shallow draft they are the perfect water vehicles for this kind of undertaking.

Cons of renting a catamaran in Turkey

While all the extra space on board a catamaran might make you jump for joy at first, it can also come with its challenges. Catamarans are so big that they often require two spots for mooring at once, making it particularly difficult to find a spot for mooring in the busy summer months. This comes with additional costs of course. Often you will have to pay double the price when mooring a catamaran at a marina.

Another downside can be the speed of a catamaran. They are often lighter than other types of boats, slowing them down a little.

Charter a catamaran in Turkey

Rent a sailboat in Turkey

Pros of renting a sailboat in Turkey

A sailboat rental in Turkey is perfect for all those who are adventurers at heart. You can sail across the waves and feel the wind on your skin. You will be able to sail longer distances quite quickly too - if the wind conditions are right. After all, there is a reason why so many sailors who sail around the world choose to do so on a sailboat.

Rent a sailboat in Turkey if you care about the environment. As sailboats are solely fueled by the wind, they don’t produce extra CO2 emissions.

If you don’t have a huge budget to spend on your boat holiday in Turkey you should definitely consider a sailboat charter in Turkey as they are often the cheapest options. Plus: You don’t need to pay extra for fuel!

Cons of renting a sailboat in Turkey

One of the downsides of a sailboat charter in Turkey is the fact that sailboats come with a keel. This makes it difficult and sometimes even dangerous to sail too close to the shore. So if you come to Turkey to explore the many magical beaches, a sailboat is not the right choice for you.

Another thing you need to consider when renting a sailboat in Turkey is the fact that they only run on wind. This means that you are completely dependent on mother nature. So you might get stuck in the middle of the sea should the wind suddenly stop blowing.

Sailboat charter in Turkey

Rent a motorboat in Turkey

Pros of renting a motorboat in Turkey

One of the best parts about a motor yacht charter in Turkey is the fact that motorboats have a shallow draft. This makes them perfect for exploring the magnificent Turkish coast. You get to sail close to the shore and explore all the beauty that the Turkish landscape has to offer. There can even be quite a bit of variation, depending on the time of year and the area you visit in Turkey.

Another fantastic thing about a yacht rental in Turkey is that you can go from beach to beach or city to city in a relatively short amount of time. Motorboats or motor yachts in Turkey are generally faster than other types of boats and perfect if you don’t have a lot of time, but plenty of desire to visit as many places as you can.

Cons of renting a motorboat in Turkey

One of the downsides of a motorboat charter in Turkey is the fact that motorboats can generally be some of the most expensive boats you can rent. Not just in terms of a bareboat charter, but also when it comes to paying extra for fuel.

Motorboat rental in Turkey

Rent a gulet in Turkey

Pros of renting a gulet in Turkey

Gulets are some of the most popular boats you can rent in Turkey - for good reason. A gulet rental in Turkey allows you to sail with a bigger group of people. The cabins might not be big in size, but there is generally a lot of space for 10-15 people. So get your crew together and go on a fun adventure with all your friends.

A gulet yacht charter in Turkey is also great for anyone who prefers to sleep on a boat that feels a bit safer than other types of boats. Gulets are quite big and sturdy, making them safe in most situations.

Rent a gulet in Turkey if you want to set your sail when racing across the water, but prefer to have a little bit more space on deck than you would get on a sailboat. Lean back, stretch your legs and soak up the sun.

Gulet rental in Turkey

Cons of renting a gulet in Turkey

Something you need to consider when renting a gulet in Turkey is the fact that they are not easy to maneuver. You need a lot of experience and expertise to do so. If you don’t have the necessary experience you might want to choose a different kind of boat. If you are set on experiencing a sailing adventure on one of the most popular boats in Turkey you can always hire an experienced skipper or captain in addition to your bareboat charter. You don’t have to sail the gulet yourself, but you can learn a lot from going on board with someone who does have a lot of experience.

Luxury boat holidays in Turkey

While Turkey is known as a budget holiday destination where you can get to experience a little bit of luxury as well, Turkey is also a place where true luxury has its place. Luxury resorts, fancy restaurants and luxury boats are all things that you can make part of your holiday in Turkey. Book luxury boat holidays in Turkey with Zizoo and make all the adaptations you need to create your dream holiday on the water. Most luxury yachts even come with a full crew, meaning that you have a captain on board who is going to take care of navigating the boat and a crew that is going to ensure that you have everything you need while relaxing on deck.

What kind of boat licence do you need when renting a boat in Turkey?

Anyone who wants to rent a boat in Turkey should ensure that they have a valid licence. The Turkish authorities are very strict in these matters and won’t approve anything if you don’t provide the required certifications. If you don’t have a valid boat licence, you can always hire a skipper in addition to your bareboat charter. This is also a great option for anyone who simply wants to lean back and relax on their boat holiday in Turkey while someone else takes care of operating the boat.

Sailing routes in Turkey

There are plenty of magical routes that take you along the Turkish coastline. Whether you decide to start your adventure in Istanbul or Marmaris, you will certainly be impressed by the magical and diverse natural landscape you can find in this part of the Mediterranean.

Day 1 - Sail from Marmaris to Kumlubük : Before heading to Kumlubük , you should take your time to discover what Marmaris has to offer. Whether you decide to spend the day at one of the many beaches, explore the port and have a delicious lunch or visit the Marmaris Castle and Archeology Museum , you won’t be disappointed. It only takes a little over 6 nautical miles to reach Kumlubük. In Kumlubük you should visit Amos Antik Kenti , a historical site located on a hill overlooking the sea.

Day 2 - Sail from Kumlubük to Göbün : Before you head to Göbün , you should take your time and enjoy a traditional Turkish breakfast in one of the restaurants in Kumlubük . Göbün is a super safe bay to anchor for the night. It is very well protected from the winds, making your sleep on board your boat extremely comfortable. In Göbün you should definitely swim in the crystal clear water and enjoy the relative peace and quiet. It really doesn’t get crowded here.

Day 3 - Sail from Göbün to Sarsala : In just a little over 2 nautical miles you reach Sarsala , a beautiful area on the Turkish coast. The mix of pine and olive trees, the crystal clear water and the calm and peaceful atmosphere make this spot the perfect stop. The bay also keeps you well-protected from the winds.

Day 4 - Sail from Sarsala to Göcek : Göcek is a beautiful seaside town on the Turkish coast. You can find wonderful forests and beautiful crystal clear waters here. Göcek is also a popular spot to go surfing and snorkelling. If you want to take a break from being in or on the water, be sure to hike to the top of the cove and enjoy the scenic views of the bay. Make sure to visit Göcek Island which is not too far from the town with the same name.

Day 5 - Sail from Göcek to Ekincik : Before you head to your next destination you should walk around the lively streets of Göcek and take in the bustling life. It will be in stark contrast to the more quiet towns you have visited previously, but that’s what makes Göcek even more charming. In Ekincik you should make your way to the mouth of the Dalyan River and sail up there to explore some beautiful ancient ruins.

Day 6 - Sail from Ekincik to Marmaris : It might be time to head back to Marmaris, but it doesn’t mean that your boat holiday is over. You have plenty of time to explore the city and visit the Marmaris Castle and Archeology Museum if you haven’t already done so.

Day 7 - Sail around Marmaris : Now is the time to explore the beaches and bays surrounding Marmaris without any stress or pressure.

Moscow City Tourism Committee organizes conference for Indian MICE market stakeholders

New Delhi [India], April 24 (ANI): Recognising market demand, the Moscow City Tourism Committee organized a conference for representatives of the Indian MICE industry, to introduce them to the tourism strengths of the Russian capital.

MICE stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions, and is a type of tourism in which large groups, usually plan things well in advance.

The event took place on April 19 in Delhi and brought together over 100 participants from MICE agencies of both countries, corporate customers, representatives of the travel industry in Moscow, Aeroflot and the Indian branches of Sberbank.

Business tourism is one of the most promising directions for Moscow.

In 2023, the capital was visited by 3.7 million business tourists - 7 per cent more than in 2022. And India remains one of the leaders among visitors from non-CIS countries in terms of the number of business travellers.

"The Russian capital as a centre of business tourism and corporate events is already an established and a strong brand in the international arena," commented Anastasia Popova, Deputy General Director for International and Industry Cooperation of Project Office for the Development of Tourism and Hospitality in Moscow.

"Now our task is to demonstrate to our Indian partners all the possibilities of organizing high-value MICE events in Moscow in combination with already proven tourist programs," said Popova.

At the Shaping MICE Future Conference, industry experts from Russia and India pronounced statements and speeches on the future of MICE events in these two countries, a presentation of the MICE potential of Moscow was showcased, and an analytical report on the state of the outbound MICE market in India was presented to the visitors.

During the panel discussion, participants assessed the current status and interaction peculiarities with the MICE market in India and developed recommendations for the MICE industry in Moscow during the general brainstorming session.

Representatives of the Indian MICE industry participated in B2B negotiations to find new cross-partners in the Moscow business environment and among representatives of the hospitality industry.

Representatives of the MICE industry took part in the event from Moscow.

Among them were DMC (Grand Rus, Academservice, Headed Goose, Satguru Travel, Isba Rus, Hug the Bear, Mellenium Group) as well as representatives of other partners interested in the development of MICE cooperation between Russia and India: Global transfers provider i'way and hotels Edge Seligerskaya and Edge Vinogradovo Moscow by Rotana.

"In 2024, we have witnessed a significant surge (more than quadruple) in the demand for transfers by Russians visiting India, both for business and leisure purposes. Muscovites are leading the trend, with 80 per cent of transfer bookings originating from the capital since the beginning of the year. Additionally, we observe a growing interest from Indian tourism agencies in exploring Russia, resulting in a substantial increase in our collaboration," commented Dmitriy Saraykin, co-founder of Global Transfer Provider i'way.

The Shaping MICE Future conference allowed the Moscow City Tourism Committee to form a pool of MICE industry representatives in Moscow to prioritize incoming requests for events and clarify India's requirements for business and corporate events to build mutually effective work. Indian colleagues received up-to-date information about Moscow as a safe and attractive MICE destination and were able to find potential partners among representatives of the MICE industry of the Russian capital and were able to present the MICE market in India.

"The event served as a remarkable platform for fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration within the tourism industry. The event provided us with invaluable opportunities to engage with key stakeholders from the tourism department, as well as tour operators and service providers. The insights gained during the event underscored the Moscow City Tourism Committee's keen interest in the Indian outbound market, and we are optimistic about the promising prospects for Moscow as a destination, particularly in the post-pandemic landscape. We firmly believe that with concerted efforts and strategic initiatives, Moscow has the potential to emerge as a top-choice destination for Indian tourists," said Mudit Mathur, director of Tours Delite India, representing Academ Service - Russia in India.

The conference also assessed the solutions to foreign demand for non-standard venues and elements in MICE programs, such as museums, parks, theaters and others. Holding MICE events at offbeat locations, such as the State Historical Museum, the Moscow Planetarium and Khudozhestvenny Cinema, is becoming popular.
