I toured the Sunreef 70' at the 2010 Miami Boat Show in February. Sunreef's marketing director Ewa Stachurska took me through the boat. This was the 5th boat they had launched and she was quite proud of the level of finish work they had achieved. A casual glance is all that was needed to be utterly stunned by that statement. A closer look left me cringing... and wondering what the other four boats looked like? Sunreef's designs are attractive; possibly the only cats to capture that element, which has gone missing with most of the multihulls on the market. But that's where the excitment ends. The level of finish and detail on these boats is not on par with any of the yachts we have reviewed on YF. It's not even close. As we stepped inside, hoping for redemption, it only got worse. The interior layout, ergonomics and space planning were not well conceived. For instance, you could not stand upright at the helm because the slope of the windcreen, where it met the ceiling, was too low for anyone standing 5'10" or taller. I won't go into the inferior, whoops... I mean interior joinery. I have subsequently stopped running the numerous press releases the company sends us. And we won't be doing any reviews.

I didn't even make it inside this boat at Miami, but based on the questionable finish on the hull that I saw, apparently I did not miss anything. Cracking in the finish and noticable repairs and such on the port hull had me scratching my head: if the good side is to the dock, how does the other side look?

sunreef This is one major reason i truly enjoy this site; Honest , direct , responsible responses and evaluations of product or service. So many businesses refuse to state what they believe or render an honest evaluation, Thank you.

Good for YachtForums: not one responder made the obvious Polish joke. I, however, don't have that tact and that's what the Sunreef 70 is. Capt. Tom saw the hull damage at Miami and the sales people were saying it was caused during ship transit and there wasn't time to repair it. Nevertheless, it did show that as Sunreef transitions from aluminum construction to composites, they are continuing to rely on gallons of Bondo to fair what can only be described as a poorly molded and rippled hull. And that showed in some areas of the hull where the fiberglass had obviously been laid up by skilled welders. The Miami boat had a dark wenge interior that was very Euro, but so dark that you needed a flashlight to poke around the guest cabins (with tiny windows) even though there was supposedly a very sophisticated lighting system. The salon? Huge, but a colossal waste of space. Guests sitting on a couch have to turn sideways to watch television? On the other side of the salon is the biggest wetbar I've ever seen. And in between is enough space to film Dancing With The Stars. Step up to the pilothouse and you'll see why you never want to be close to a Sunreef on the water: the skipper can only see straight ahead. With no side windows and a low ceiling, the view is akin to peering out of a WWII concrete bunker. Oh, wait, this was built in Poland. Right. Add to that a settee in the pilothouse placed so low that guests can't see out, and you have to wonder. The master stateroom is gigantic, but it's just empty space and with a limited view outside. And the guest cabins are arranged so that access to the berths means climbing over your bed partner. Could be good news, could be bad. It almost seemed as though the people who designed the exterior never talked to those who designed the interior. Overall fit and finish of the joinery was right up there to Motel Six standards. In fact, I've had better water views from a Motel Six than from this "luxury yacht". I have to wonder about a yacht so badly arranged and with such a low level of quality in areas I can see. What's going on where I can't look?
That is really to bad we were really hoping they would be built better then that. And they do look good in pictures. Does anyone know about Prout line of cats. I thank you all for the info that will save us a lot of time and money. Thank you John

Thanks Brian Eiland, Yes, my interest is for Catamaran 60 ' up to 65 ' of candles with 4 or 5 complete berths. I look to used base year 2003/2005, prices lower. Yes, I understand the problems informed in the site, many prefer to wait better conditions of time, therefore the life in catamaran is comfortable, sail-boat follows the motionless front therefore or sailing the life it is equal. Catamarans of 60/65' all has air conditioning, the heat of the kitchen goes for is, today has environment controllers who do not leave moisture.

Sunreef Power Eco Is A Think-Different Catamaran

  • By Kim Kavin
  • February 14, 2024

Sunreef 80 Power Eco

Any yacht that’s built with a “solar skin” is bound to attract owners who have at least a few thoughts about the environment. Such is the case with Sunreef’s Power Eco series of catamarans. Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso recently took delivery of a 60 Power Eco, saying that sustainability considerations were fundamental to his vessel choice. The owner of the first 80 Power Eco , christened Sól , built the yacht entirely cruelty-free, including far more than avoiding animal-derived fabrics such as leather.

As just one example, there’s a composting machine on board Sól . It lets the chefs reduce trash by turning scraps into fertilizer for island farmers, who, in exchange, provide the yacht with locally grown microgreens. “This is definitely different,” says chef Sara Nelson. “I don’t know any other boat doing these things to the level that we’re doing them.”

Fernando Alonso

The captain of Sól thinks about sustainability right down to the crew’s polishing tools for the hull. “You need woolies, but I had to go to the manufacturer to see if it was real wool or not,” Capt. Jack Gorman says. “These are synthetic wool. That’s what we’re going for. Everything down to the bottom paint is cruelty-free. Ablative bottom paints, if you put 20 gallons of that on your yacht, it sloughs off into the environment, and it’s bad for the reefs. We’re using a silicon base without biocides.”

The 80’s two rotating chefs trained in plant-based cooking with celebrity chef Matthew Kenney. Aboard Sól , they will prepare any type of food that guests prefer, but they are ready for charter clients who want all-vegan menus.

Sunreef 80 Power Eco

“Most people are reducers,” the 80’s owner says. “A small percentage of the world is vegan, but the majority of people have been looking for plant-based options—not necessarily three meals a day, but they will choose a plant-based dinner some percentage of their evenings.” Aboard Sól , he adds, “it’s delicious, exquisite, high-quality plant-based options.”

As their name implies, the Sunreef Power Eco yachts also have electric power. Sunreef has been adding energy-saving air-conditioning systems, along with custom battery banks that are lighter—and, therefore, can be bigger—than the types of batteries some other builders are testing.

Sunreef 80 Power Eco

The result is the kind of cruising and charter experience that appeals to people who are eager to make an eco-friendly turn. As Alonso puts it, “long, fume-free and quiet cruises let you enjoy the seas on a whole new level. This yacht has some amazing technology that cannot be found anywhere else.”

Sunreef 70 Review: Pedigree and performance

are sunreef catamarans any good

Once again, Sunreef Yachts delight with their expertise and creativity, offering a catamaran Sunreef 70 whose two hulls boast space and comfort customizable to a high degree

Sunreef 70: A Luxurious, Customizable Catamaran for Ocean Adventures

Both new owners and those who are leveling up from 50 or 60 feet will find the new Sunreef 70 fits every idea they have of their new boat. More space and more options of customization – those just might be the two defining characteristics of luxury builds, and Sunreef 70 has them both.

While many other brands offer customization in terms of materials, fabrics and equipment, with their latest model Sunreef 70 Eco (solar panels and electric engines), Sunreef Yachts take a step farther.

Luxury yacht Benetti Happy Me sunset port side

The latest Sunreef catamaran is just as seductive and impressive as her predecessors like Sunreef 80 , carrying the same DNK. Already sold in thirteen units, and recipient of the Best Sailing Yacht of the 2021 The International Yacht & Aviation Award, this luxury yacht is sporty in every detail.

Sunreef 70 sailing sunset

Vertical portholes fit beautifully into her dark hull, and the cut out in the railing connects her to her larger sister Sunreef 100, while the dark gray hull and tinted glass surfaces give the new model a mean look that will attract attention in every port and marina.

Sunreef 70 Anima

The most used space on every yacht , the salon, is especially large on the 70, with 287 square meters. Spacious, airy and light, the main deck salon is connected to the cockpit into one gigantic semi-open space equally enjoyable for entertaining, relaxing, sunbathing and water sports . The very comfortable skipper seat has been pushed forward, toward the glass wall right next to the exit onto the bow, to maximize flow.

are sunreef catamarans any good

The unit we tested, Sunreef 70 Anima, had two large sofas and numerous storage units, a large coffee table and several small cabinets, with plenty of free space on both sides of the table. The layout with the galley below deck allows creation of a master cabin larger than any in this category, as well as three guest cabins and a large crew cabin.

On the unit we tested, one of the guest cabins was turned into a kids’ cabin with Pullman beds. This layout sleeps eight and is perfect for luxury charter . The other available layout offers four guest cabins with en-suites and direct access to the aft.

The builder chose luxury materials and fabrics for all cabins, adding to the master some extras, like a pop-up TV, a walk-in wardrobe, and an en-suite in gray and black marble. In the salon, there is another large TV, hidden when not in use ad served by an electric lowering system, which can turn any evening into a cozy movie evening, especially when discreet LED lights are on.

Behind the salon, toward the bow and between the al fresco galley and the lower deck passage, a wide and safe staircase leads directly to the fly deck. This deck is especially cozy, with a command post (served by a bench) on the right, a small galley behind it, and a sectional large enough to seat all guests at the same time. Behind the sofa there are several sunbeds, hiding below storage space large enough to fit a bike.

Hydraulic winches for the mainsail are placed laterally, right above gennaker/genoa commands, and two other winches are at the mast heel. All of this in co-operation with digital systems and the Dockmate – which allows wireless engine and thruster control while docking – makes maneuvering easy and safe even with minimal crew.

Dynamic design and almost endless customization options are the most interesting features of this new model, already popular with previous Sunreef owners, equally skilled in sailing the waters of the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic and the North Sea.

Sunreef Eco 70

Available in a sustainable version, with solar panels and electric engines, this premium yacht is truly the best possible travel pal for ocean adventures.

sunreef-70 anima flybridge

In terms of the exterior, the Eco 70 actually changed very little in comparison to the standard Sunreef 70 , which means the interior is still brimming with advanced solutions. Every inch of the hull is covered with Sunreef solar panels with peak regeneration capacity of up to 30 kW, whose flexibility allows perfect adherence to the rounded surfaces (143 square meters in total) of the hull, the fly bridge and the roof.

Their minimal weight translates into maximum efficiency (less than 5.2 kg / kWh). Ecology was also taken into account in the interior, but not at the expense of luxury, so all fabrics are natural and sustainably sourced.

Presence of 285 kW to 475 kW 622V battery and two generators (2 x 75 kW) that serve the two 90 kW electric engines influenced the size of the fuel and water tanks, which are slightly smaller than usual, but this does not affect range in any way. All of this smart engineering is cleverly hidden and hasn’t damaged the style and the overall sporty feeling of the Eco 70.

Sunreef 140

Sunreef ’s fleet of luxury catamarans just got a little bit bigger—and a little more innovative.

The relatively new Polish yard, which was founded in 2002, has been steadily churning out new models to cater to the growing appetite for high-design multihulls . The latest to join the Sunreef family is a new sailing yacht known simply as the Sunreef 140 .

As its name implies, the newest addition spans just shy of 140 feet and is what the yard describes as a “super catamaran .” In other words, it pairs the sleek silhouette and clean lines of a classic cat with the comfort and largess of a superyacht. It also has a novel new feature to the aft that sets it apart from its predecessors.

Sunreef 140

The new super catamaran spans just shy of 140 feet.  Sunreef Yachts

Like the six other models in Sunreef’s sailing line , the new Sunreef 140 is equipped with a rig that harnesses the wind to supplement propulsion and improve efficiency while reducing emissions. Fully customizable, she can be fitted with either traditional diesel engines or electric motors. Opt for the latter and you can also add Sunreef’s proprietary solar power system that works to power the vessel’s amenities with emissions-free energy.

According to the yard, one of the yacht’s most notable features is the aft cockpit. In addition to a lounge and dining area for alfresco entertaining, it sports a nifty fold-out platform that works to connect the two separate hulls. This, in turn, creates a vast walkaround beach club that comes complete with sun loungers, a diving platform and whatever else the new owner might like.

The wrap-around beach club flows onto a gym and storage room.  Sunreef Yachts

The beach club flows onto a gym that promises ocean-view workouts and a storage room for diving gear and water toys. Beneath the aft cockpit, there is a large garage that offers space for two large jet skis, as well as a refueling station and launching system. The flybridge, meanwhile, is fitted with a bar, dining table and a spa flanked by sun pads.

As for the interior, there is accommodation for up to 12 guests. The highlight is the full-beam owner’s suite that affords a panoramic vista along with private access to the spa and lounge on the bow terrace. Super cat, indeed.

A Green Revolution With Sunreef Eco-Friendly Luxury Catamarans

By Rob Bowman | Posted On Sep 30, 2020 Updated On Mar 23, 2022

It's often been said that boaters are stewards of the environment, having grown to appreciate the ocean and its inhabitants. One does not need to look very far to see shining examples of marine conservation efforts by companies that build, sell, service, or otherwise make their living from boats. As engine manufacturers improve technology to build more efficient engines and boat builders look for ways to leave less of a carbon footprint, the changes to making boating 'greener' is happening bit by bit, with each new model year.

As the environment has become an increasingly important topic in our society, one yacht builder has taken a dramatic leap forward in terms of how their boats are built, equipped, and powered. Sunreef Yachts has now created eco-friendly, sustainable cruising solutions in both sailing and power catamaran formats.

What does it mean to be an eco-friendly catamaran? As an option, owners may wish for:

  • Eco-friendly propulsion and green energy
  • The use of sustainable materials throughout the yacht
  • Energy efficient climate-control
  • Non-toxic materials in the hull and bottom paint
  • No CO2 Emissions
  • Never sacrifice luxury, comfort, space, or performance

Sunreef is offering their eco-friendly models as sailing catamarans from 50' to 80' and as power catamarans from 60' to 100'. United Yacht Sales is thrilled to represent such an innovative and industry-changing yacht brand that continues to be a leader in luxury and performance cruising. If you have any interest in finding out more about Sunreef's incredible eco-friendly luxury catamarans, we invite you to contact United's Jorge Cabre' at (305) 773-2095 or by email at [email protected]

sunreef yachts green propulsion

Green Propulsion

The benefit of "Going Green" when it comes to the propulsion of your Sunreef Yacht goes beyond your own conscience, but also extends to the enjoyment of the experience. Boating with electric engines means no noise, no vibration, and no fumes. Completely silent and enjoyable cruising. Thanks to Sunreef's innovative solutions, running your vessel has never been more environmentally safe. Electric engines are also easier for service and allow you to save thousands on fuel costs.

Owners also have the option to choose hybrid engines which combine thermal combustion with electric motoring. There are massive benefits in Co2 emissions compared to traditional thermal engines and the hybrid propulsion also helps to recharge the yacht's battery bank.

Seen below: A Sunreef eco-friendly catamaran has many features that go into reducing emissions and creating a fully 'green' yacht.

Sunreef Yachts eco-friendly catamaran features

In order to power the electric engines, Sunreef sought to maximize the various ways energy could be collected on a yacht. The obvious choice was to harness the energy of the sun which is abundant on the ocean. The shipyard is widely known for its innovative techniques and designs so it's no surprise that they chose to manufacture their own state-of-the-art solar panels. Flexible, ultra-strong, and incredibly light, the solar panels installed on Sunreef's eco-friendly yachts are advanced and powerful. They can be curved to fit flush with the lines of the yacht and maintenance is easily completed.

The solar panels send the energy collected to a battery bank of high-tech lithium batteries that are lighter and outperform traditional marine batteries.

Solar energy wasn't the only option to charge Sunreef's battery bank. Sunreef's luxury catamarans can be equipped with advanced electric propulsion that allow for hydro generation of power. As the propeller rotates while the yacht is cruising by sail, energy can be collected and delivered to the battery bank and assist with running the electronics on board. Hydro generation has been found to be highly efficient and beneficial, as they can recover power from two engines.

The power of the wind can also be harnessed with Sunreef's wind turbine system. If nighttime or cloudy weather is a problem with collecting solar energy, the wind turbines can continue to charge the battery bank while at cruise or at a dock.

Powering and propelling your Sunreef Catamaran isn't the only eco-friendly feature the builder has incorporated. The construction of the yacht is also changing the idea of what materials can be used to build a strong, seaworthy vessel without abandoning their commitment to the earth. Today's monohull and catamaran yachts are generally constructed of a 100% fiberglass or a resin-infused wood core hull. Sunreef's eco catamarans can be built using basalt, a dense rock derived from volcanoes. The Basalt fiber is not only safer for the environment, but is also said to be stronger than glass fiber and outperforms it.

The interior of your yacht can also be a notable topic of conversation when entertaining like-minded guests. Sunreef offers owners the option for sustainable yacht decor without compromising your luxurious interiors. From using alternatives to leather, to sourcing salvaged hardwoods for flooring, your yacht can be completely "Green" both inside and out. Even countertops can be made with compressed paper-based materials for an incredible look while also greatly reducing weight.

Optimization of the performance, weight, consumption, and energy management on board was a serious task for Sunreef. So that the electric motors could perform at the absolute least amount of energy, the hull of each Sunreef catamaran had to be optimized for drag and efficiency. Using computer simulations and a very slick, sustainable bottom paint, the catamarans are able to perform well in a variety of sea conditions. The weight of the catamaran was also crucial to achieving their goals of efficiency and performance, so carbon fiber can be used throughout the construction process.

In order to achieve a perfect balance of energy use, Sunreef has carefully insulated the interior spaces to maintain temperatures. And the insulation? It's sustainable too. Even the air-conditioning system is incredibly high-tech, is battery-powered, and is completely silent. The ultra-efficient lithium battery packs maintain the appropriate level of energy consumption while continually re-charging through the variety of methods Sunreef has offered. Less energy, greater performance, better efficiency, and all sustainable materials combine to make Sunreef the most eco-friendly yachts on the planet.

Sunreef 60 Sailing Catamaran: Yacht Style Review

The fifth unit of the Polish builder’s new model, the Sunreef 60 sailing catamaran Oca proves home is where the yacht is.

Oca is the fifth unit from the new Sunreef 60 line and could eventually cruise through Asia

Oca is the fifth unit from the new Sunreef 60 line and could eventually cruise through Asia

In the Brazilian tribal language of Tupi-Guarani, Oca means
house. It’s an entirely fitting name for the fifth Sunreef 60 sailing catamaran, which was designed to be a comfortable home at sea for a young family with world-roaming ambitions.

The 18.3m cat with a 10.2m beam is a new breed conceived by the Polish builder to blend long-range cruising capabilities, high-performance sailing, luxurious amenities and comfortable accommodation for a family or charter guests.

The model slips into the builder’s current range of sailing cats, above the 50 and below the 70 and 80. The latter was premiered with the first 60 at last September’s Cannes Yachting Festival, revealing a new design ethos.

“The 60 follows the design guidelines of the whole range, which means having high bulwarks, a bow terrace, an aft platform, free-standing furniture. Only the proportions change as the size of the yacht changes,” says Sunreef’s interior designer Marta Kaszuba, who carried out the layout modifications and interior design on Oca .

The interiors blend seamlessly with the outside, the aft glass doors sliding back to open up an enormous indoor-outdoor living area. “The aft platform, aft cockpit and saloon are flush, creating one enormous space,” she says.

The Sunreef 60 fits in with the 50, 70 and 80 in the Polish builder’s new range of sailing catamarans

Oca also has more than a few amenities that you won’t usually find on a 60ft sailboat, such as a foredeck lounge and jacuzzi up on the flybridge.

FRONT LOUNGE

The 60 is also the smallest Sunreef yet to have a bow terrace, a tranquil space found just forward of the pilothouse with an L-shaped settee to starboard and flanked by two sunpads. This lounge area is the ideal height to enjoy the views as you cruise, but it’s lowered for protection from sea-spray and a sense of privacy.

You can access it from the side decks, but the terrace is best accessed directly from the saloon, with a door leading out to the foredeck. When this forward door and aft glass doors are all open, the main deck is transformed into one glorious open-air living room, inviting in the breeze and allowing easy movement.

“Starting with this range, the forward terrace will be on all Sunreef boats,” says Aleksandra Chabros, Charter Manager for Sunreef Yachts Charter. “This has become a new norm and I keep hearing from charter clients, ‘I only want a boat with the front lounge’.”

The aft platform holds a 3m tender that can ferry five guests to shore. This platform is flush with the aft deck, so when the tender is launched the cockpit space is extended. Likewise, when the platform is lowered to the waterline, it connects between the dual staircases that lead up to the main deck and creates a wonderful beach club.

The large cockpit offers access to the flybridge via an elegant semi-circular staircase

It’s also the hub for watersports and Oca packs plenty in her toy box including Seabobs, kite-surfing equipment (the deckhand is a kite-surfing instructor) and an eFoil.

Sunreef is proud of its ability to offer clients truly customisable layouts, not merely options to choose between. As Oca is designed to go the distance, layout modifications include a laundry room in the port bow and a walk-in provision pantry attached to the crew quarters in
the aft port hull. Other changes were made with safety in mind, such as choosing a white non-skid surface on the side decks instead of teak.

CRUISE AND CHARTER

This summer the yacht will be based in the south of France, Sardinia and Corsica, then in the winter will cross for the Caribbean season. The plan is to then start heading around the world, to Asia and the South Pacific.

The owner is an avid yachtsman who plans to do some ocean crossings himself, yet he’s also hired a very capable crew of three to look after Oca and her guests.

Captain Tristan Bataillard and chef Louise Dagger cut their teeth crewing on much larger yachts, but traded in their roles on a 60m motor yacht to manage the programme on a 60-footer, bringing a wealth of big-boat knowledge with them. Indeed, Dagger’s cuisine is as good as or better than any found on yachts many times Oca ’s size.

The owners did their homework before selecting Sunreef, comparing a number of catamaran brands.

“Sunreef was not my first option when purchasing a new boat, but I have grown to like Sunreef more by the day,” the owners say. “I strongly believe Sunreef has already become a game-changer in this niche market due to the high quality of product and service level.”

Once the owners had decided on the yard, they heard about Sunreef Yachts Charter Management and an idea was sparked. They could put their yacht in the charter market, allowing charter guests to join when the family isn’t on board, while the owners and guests alike could enjoy cruising in far-flung locations as the yacht made her way around the world.

HOMELY INTERIOR

The interior is certainly homely, but at the same time avoids the trap of being overly personal, as seen on many yachts used for both private cruising and charter. The owners worked closely with the Sunreef design team to create an interior that would be comfortable yet sophisticated.

The decor is a symphony of taupes, creams, whites and sandy tones, while colour drops in with a splash of baby blue and sky blue throw cushions. Each stateroom is defined by the colourful soft goods, in either green, purple, blue or yellow. There’s even a sense of the outside world being brought inside, a subtle beach motif without a hint of any seashell prints.

The light decor and big windows around the superstructure create a bright, inviting interior, which also includes a door to the foredeck

There are three staterooms in the starboard hull, two accessed
via the forward stairwell and one aft, each with its own en-suite.
The master takes over the port hull, and in total Oca can sleep eight guests. Future owners can choose an alternative cabin arrangement to suit their needs.

Materials are elegant and simple, such as the pearl beige oak floor and silver-grey oak furniture. The well-arranged saloon has an alabaster marble decorative wall, with clean white kitchen counters.

To starboard is a sofa and table, which can be raised for dining or lowered. Just behind the sofa is a raised settee, a bit like an indoor sunpad, which enjoys views out of the wraparound windows, an ideal place to curl up with a book.

A long central island dissects the saloon fore to aft, serving to both separate the galley and provide plenty of prep space for the chef. Oca ’s crew enjoys involving guests as much as possible, such as offering cooking lessons for the kids.

“Even if people want to help cook sometimes or make their own coffee, we accommodate them. We try to be a high standard, but we want people to feel at home,” says the Captain.

BIG PERFORMER

On paper, 18.3m might not sound big, but what the Sunreef 60 lacks in length she more than makes up for in space with her hefty beam. Catamaran owners will attest, two hulls are certainly better than one, and the 60’s volume is particularly impressive.

“Theoretically, it’s a 60-footer. However, even compared to other catamarans, her volume is that of a 70-footer,” Chabros says. “It’s all in the construction, since the hulls are higher and thinner, the saloon is higher, allowing the shipyard to create 225sqm of living space.”

The design is also key to her performance attributes, explains the Captain. “Because of the thin hull and the high, narrow bow, she doesn’t hit the waves but cuts through them, so you feel much less impact.”

Bataillard piloted Oca on her 3,000nm shakedown cruise from Poland, with particularly rough weather in the Baltic Sea. “She fared fine,” he says, noting a maximum speed of 10 knots when on beam reach with 15-20 knots of wind.

Oca will cross for the Caribbean season, then the plan is to slowly start heading around the world, to Asia and the South Pacific

Oca will cross for the Caribbean season, then slowly head to Asia

Her sail plan is ample, with a 112sqm mainsail, 90sqm genoa and 185sqm gennaker, while she can make seven knots with the twin 110hp engines.

In inclement weather, the Sunreef 60 can be piloted from inside, with a helm that has everything except the wheel, so the yacht can be controlled from here when on autopilot. The main helm station is up on the flybridge, which has a grill, dining table, sunpads, and – a truly rare find on a yacht this size – a jacuzzi with glass panels.

You can easily imagine Oca moored in a picturesque bay, the
kids splashing around in the spa tub or snorkelling in the sea as their parents watch over them from a comfortable seat in their sophisticated, spacious and abundantly liveable home.

Sunreef Eco Yachts | A Complete Guide

A prestigious shipyard founded in 2002, Sunreef has built over 140 innovative and high-quality yachts...

A prestigious shipyard founded in 2002, Sunreef has built over 140 innovative and high-quality yachts in their Gdansk, Poland facility. Sunreef is a leader in the yachting industry, using cutting-edge technology to create custom-made multihulls of the highest quality composite.

Riding on the success of their standard line of yachts, in 2021, they began designing more eco-friendly yachts. With the first Eco yacht released in 2022, the incredibly progressive boats have evolved into the full Sunreef Eco Line. What’s more, Sunreef will be dedicating all its future efforts towards sustainable and eco-friendly yacht building.

Every yacht they design offers the most comfort, living, and safety, with performance sailing and spacious living quarters. Additionally, they make the most of the catamaran’s larger-than-average hull distance and weight distribution. As a result, Sunreef’s catamarans are notably more stable than typical monohulls.

Just as the new line of custom yachts is being made for private owners, they are also starting to enter the charter industry. As with the other lines of Sunreef charter yachts , these will range from 50 to 100 feet. One great new Eco charter boat is SOL , a Sunreef 80 Eco Power Catamaran hosting 8 guests in 4 cabins. Starting winter 2023, she’ll be available in the Caribbean , Bahamas , and the British Virgin Islands .

Key Features of the Eco Line

The Eco Line from Sunreef offers fully electric and hybrid engine models, which feature multiple green sources for propulsion and powering the yachts. They also come in sailing and power catamarans , ranging from 40 feet to 100 feet long. The sailing yachts can generate enough power to utilize little to zero fuel. With a speed of 12 knots, the 80-foot power catamaran is expected to have an impressive 22-mile range running solely on its batteries and can cover up to 1,900 miles when operated in hybrid mode.

Advanced Solar Power

Sunreef Yachts, renowned for their cutting-edge green energy yachts, has pioneered solar panels in the maritime industry. Their state-of-the-art panels are customized to size and shape and can be mounted almost anywhere on the yacht, with the potential for maximum solar power generation.

Additionally, they are extremely lightweight and easy to dismantle and maintain, with an R&D department currently researching ways to utilize heat recovery from the panels for heating the boat’s boiler. Most impressively, Sunreef Yachts was the first to integrate the panels in a curved carbon bimini roof, revolutionizing the eco-conscious cruising experience.

Hydro Propulsion

Sunreef Yachts Eco catamarans, outfitted with advanced electric propulsion, generate electricity from the spinning propellers while sailing, enabling the power stored in the propulsion battery bank to fuel both the propulsion systems and the electronic appliances onboard. As catamarans can take advantage of the energy generated from two engines, hydro generation is an incredibly efficient and perpetual energy source for sustainable yachts.

Wind Energy

Wind turbines are an integral part of any eco-friendly yacht’s energy profile. Providing stable electricity, even during cloudy weather and at night, these turbines produce power from the wind and keep the boat’s battery bank charged. With the capacity to operate in varying wind conditions, from light to heavy, the generators sit at the vessel’s highest point to optimize wind power conversion to electrical energy, even when docked.

Electric Engine Power

For those looking for a more sustainable, eco-friendly, luxurious sailing experience, the yachts from Sunreef are a great choice. These innovative yachts have cutting-edge electric engines that offer optimal performance and autonomy. Furthermore, the environmentally-friendly catamarans benefit from fuel savings, require less maintenance, and are virtually soundless, thanks to their cutting-edge propulsion technology. Electric propulsion is an eco-friendly solution to a guilt-free yachting adventure that brings more liberty, serenity, and opulence.

Innovative Materials

Sunreef Yachts’ Eco Catamarans use two innovative materials, basalt and linen, to craft the hulls, superstructures, and yacht furniture. Basalt, a volcanic rock, is fundamental to sustainable yacht manufacturing. This fiber is significantly more powerful than glass fiber, yet it doesn’t release hazardous greenhouse gases while fabricated. It has no chemical reaction with air or water and is a noncombustible, explosion-proof material. The other material utilized is linen, made from flax, the strongest and most resilient natural fiber. It is non-toxic, eco-friendly, and offers tremendous mechanical qualities and robustness, making it a great green replacement for glass fiber.

Hybrid Engine Power

Sunreef Yachts also offer catamarans with hybrid propulsion systems that significantly reduce CO2 emissions and blend the best electric motoring with the advantages of thermal engines. Moreover, these engines can charge the yacht’s battery bank to improve energy efficiency. In addition to their eco-friendly design, these yachts guarantee excellent performance, low maintenance, and an Atlantic range.

The Range of Sunreef Eco Yachts

Wind power is ideal for sailing, and Sunreef Yachts’ eco-friendly catamarans have the highest quality rigging and entirely recyclable sails. Sunreef Yachts Eco sail catamarans come equipped with top-of-the-line recyclable sails, offering great performance regardless of the weather conditions.

The electric engines boast high energy efficiency, with their ultralight battery banks providing noiseless, emissions-free navigation. Moreover, their “solar skin” ensures maximized solar power generation by integrating the panels with the composite structures of the yacht, like the mast, boom, or hull sides. In addition, the green energy catamarans also employ hydro generation and wind turbines to boost efficiency.

The Sunreef Yachts Eco power catamarans can feature electric or hybrid engines to guarantee optimal self-sufficiency, energy efficiency, and tranquillity. At the same time, custom-made marine battery banks provide a remarkable weight-to-power ratio.

Perhaps surprisingly, the wind is also an effective support for motor yachts. Sunreef’s Power eco-friendly yachts can be equipped with powerful kites, which provide numerous advantages such as extended range, fuel savings, improved visibility, and greater safety, just as they do for large cargo vessels.

Sunreef Yachts Eco vessels can also maximize green energy production with wind turbines and powerful kites. To finish, Sunreef Yachts Eco motor yachts provide an extensive selection of ethically-sourced and eco-friendly finishing materials for luxury and sustainability.

Multihulls World #193

Despite only just being launched, the Ultima range already includes five models from 44 to 88 feet. These powercats boast a more modern design than the brand’s “traditional” Power models, with bows that are clearly inverted above a chine that runs the entire length of the hulls, and with the forward face of the coachroof also inverted.

Beam measurements have been reduced to match those of monohulls of the same length, decks have been raised, portholes have been boldly designed, and bulwarks comprise folding platforms. Technically, the Ultima is based on the manufacturer’s existing range of internal combustion and hybrid engines. Despite its limited beam of 23’9” (7.25 m) (compared to 35’9” (10.7 m) for the 60 Sunreef Power and 37’3” (11.35 m) for the 70), the new 66 Ultima succeeds in presenting a vast living space of 2,455 square feet (228 m²) and a large flybridge of 375 sq ft (35 m²). The aft deck can be transformed into a private Ocean Lounge, and the owner’s cabin occupies the entire available width. Builder: Sunreef Yachts Material: composite Length: 72’2” (22 m) Beam: 7.25 m (23’9”) Draft: 3’11” (1.2 m) Guests: 8 + 3 (crew) Powertrain: 2 x 380/480 HP or hybrid Water: 210 US gal (800 l)

  2. Sunreef 70' opinions on quality?

Sunreef's designs are attractive; possibly the only cats to capture that element, which has gone missing with most of the multihulls on the market. But that's where the excitment ends. The level of finish and detail on these boats is not on par with any of the yachts we have reviewed on YF. It's not even close.

  9. Sunreef 80 Catamaran Boat Review by Boat International

The Sunreef 80 had to be a serious sailer and capable of safe, comfortable transatlantic passages. The catamaran carries a 33-meter carbon mast and a carbon boom, both built in-house. It was also important that it be easy to sail, so her design allows all sails to be controlled from the upper helm stations on the generous flybridge.

  10. Sunreef 70 Review: Pedigree and performance

The unit we tested, Sunreef 70 Anima, had two large sofas and numerous storage units, a large coffee table and several small cabinets, with plenty of free space on both sides of the table.
