Great private charter experience

I booked a private yatch to celebrate my husband’s bday and mine. Everything was great! Had a great time! Would do it again!

We had a great time thanks to our crew Tim and AJ! We were able to make the best of the sail even with not the best weather. We hope to be back one day.

Celebrated a 65th birthday with a sail around Toronto harbour. Staff were skilled and attentive. Highly recommended

It was my first time trying sailing and this three hour intro lesson is a perfect opportunity to see if it's something you'd like to continue. The environment is indeed comfortable yet educational. Just enough theory and instruction on the land to enjoy the rest of the lesson on the water. Nicolas is a great teacher and knows exactly how much information to give to enjoy the experience and not be overwhelmed. I am looking forward to continue my learning with Gone Sailing Adventures.

Chartered a private sail for my husband's birthday and ran into a bit of trouble with the boat we originally rented - Gone Sailing Adventures quickly amended the situation and got us out on the water in another boat! The sail around Toronto islands itself was relaxing, fun, and picturesque. Special shout out to our crew and captain Angel and Nicholas - they went above and beyond to make us feel special and comfortable, couldn't have asked for a better day!

It was great to take on this new experience with Gone Sailing Adventures. The time on the water was challenging but rewarding and Howie was a great instructor. The views of the city from the harbour are spectacular as always and being on the water on a sunny weekend is the best way to enjoy the weather!

Had a great experience doing a private sail with my family on the Anything Goes (they actually upgraded us to that for free since we originally booked a smaller boat) for my dad's late birthday present. Our captain JC was amazing and involved my dad in the sail at any point he could, which we are very grateful for. Highly recommend!

I booked this for my wife and myself on my Birthday. It was a 3.5 hr pleasure cruise around the lake and islands. I call it a cruise because we were in 'irons' due to the lack of wing. The night we booked we were with another 2 couples and the crew. It became more a night of socializing than sailing, thats for sure. Judy was the stand in sommelier and sampled some very premium international wines along with some very nice gourmet food acompaniements. The 42 foot Beneteau was brand new and obviously in sparkling condition. The night was a fun and relaxing one and would repeat on a special occasion.

OMGGG. I'm so lucky to found these kind and professionals people. it was such a spontaneous thing we did for our friend's birthday and it turned out the best birthday plan I arrange for my friend's birthday. WE LOVED IT. oh my god they were super nice, super fun. we needed a charger and they took our phones and charged it for us. close to 8pm it got a bit chilly and they gave us blanket to keep us warm. Miranda answered all of my questions and I'm not even kidding I sent her maybe 10 emails and she answered them super fast and she was super patient with me. it was definitely one of the thing I recommend to do for special occasion and even if you are in toronto for a trip. Definitely gonna book it for our next event. Thank you all so much for making our night super special.

Fantastic sailing experience! The captain and first mate were both excellent: friendly, helpful, funny, and knowledgeable. Spotlessly clean boat, very well maintained. Spent the whole time on the bow and loved it. Comfy bean bag pillows to lounge on, and the weather was fantastic. Couldn't have asked for more!

I took my dad on the wine and cheese Friday night sail and had the most amazing time! It was beautiful weather with a stunning sailboat and only 4 other guests. There was three people working on the boat including a wine expert! They were all so nice. The wines were delicious as well as the food and I loved every minute of it. Would recommend to anyone

I've just had the worst experience with this company so far.. last year my friend and I booked, and we had to cancel because of an unexpected funeral. We informed the company right away, and asked if we could have a refund or if they could honor our sail for the next year (since it was close to the end of the summer season at the time). They said no, and said they guess we could re-book that year but only that year and they usually don't let people cancel with a refund. The only reason I was given my groupon money back was probably because I complained enough times. We thought we'd give this company a second chance, so we re-bought a new groupon for this summer season and booked in May. Our sail was cancelled because there wasn't enough people on the boat. Not only that, when we booked, the company e-mailed us saying that because we booked on a holiday Monday, we'd have to pay extra, and that their website had a glitch and didn't charge us, so they'd just charge the extra bit to our CC. There was no where on their website that stated anything about holidays being extra, only weekends. So I had to email the company, copy and paste their own terms and conditions, just so I could have the extra money back they already charged. So we tried again recently, and again, the sail was cancelled, not enough people on the boat. I asked the company if we can't find a time to go this summer season, since it's now mid august - could we please have it honored for next season... the answer was no. So again, I feel like the company just truly doesn't care about their customer service. We'll try for September but again, most people make their summer plans way in advance and have little wiggle room (aka us). Anyways... we'll either try again in September or... our money will once again be gone to this company. If we do go in September I'll update my review if I feel better about the company itself, but as of right now, I wouldn't bother going through the time to book with this company. Update - we tried again (and paid an extra 20$ to try again on the weekend) and couldn't find parking ANYWHERE near the company ( we tried 6 different parking locations that were all full). Not the company's fault but needless to say we didn't make the sail - and the company is still not extending our vouchers until next year (knowing how much we've tried to go on this trip). SO we call it quits with this company we will never try to purchase another voucher we've wasted so much money! I even bought a hat for about 10$ from their website to wear on my sail and I'm sure I won't even get a refund for that.

Thank you for taking the time to express your concerns with our organization. We take our feedback seriously both good and bad and use it to improve our product delivery. We are really sorry that you feel that this has been your "worst experience ever". Discount tickets are often purchased early in the season and we have space for over 200% of the tickets sold - available throughout the season. When an individual waits until the very end of the season to book it is difficult to accommodate changes as we must maintain space for all purchasers who have not made changes. As such we have a no refund/cancelation or change policy. We also make exceptions where the reason for a change is reasonable and unforeseen, ie. funeral. Sometimes even with a discounted ticket purchase we believe the exception warrants a new booking (normally at $20/ticket which in your case was waived but not accepted at the end of the season) for the same season. We understand and appreciate how excited you were to try again by purchasing tickets through GroupOn in 2016. We did an error in the pricing of the Monday of the long weekend in failing to include holidays as part of our description of premium sails. When you brought this to our attention we did refund you the premium fee that was charged and then updated our description for the future. We advertise that all sails are subject to minimum participation and unfortunately, we did not have the minimum number of participants which we require to sail when tickets are purchased from a discount reseller. These terms are clearly indicated on the ticket which you received. Fortunately, we had only 4 sails of over 150 during the summer which did not sell to our minimum. However, unfortunately you chose 2 of those dates. We did invite you to re-book and you did so for this past Sunday. This summer has had phenomenal weather and people have flocked to the waterfront for all of the great activities it has to offer. We always advise our customers to plan on arriving to the dock 30 minutes prior to departure to ensure that we can depart on time. What you FAIL to highlight in this review is 1. We did promptly issue a refund to your surcharge when you brought the issue to our attention 2. The same sail which you booked also included 10 other people, all of which arrived on time and "found parking". 3. The evening following the sail which you abandoned we did offer you the opportunity to join one of 4 remaining sails and you replied that you were unavailable for 3 of the 4 dates but still did not book the date you were available. 4. The hat purchase of $5 was refunded the day following the sail. We do our best to accommodate all of our customers and thank you again for your feedback in each of the venues you chose to publicize your experience in. Our recommendations: 1. Discount tickets often have limitations. If you are unable to be flexible in your sailing schedule book directly through us and not an online discounter. 2. Plan on arriving to the dock 30 mins ahead of the departure time or come early and spend the day at the waterfront. 3. Take public transit, we are a 10 minute street car ride from Union Station, with a Stop at directly in front our dock.

This morning I went sailing. It was at 10:00am and for two hours. It was a very nice time on the yacht. At 11:00am, we were asked if we wanted a drink. My boyfriend and I said yes. We thought it was complimentary as we were NOT told about the price or even shown a menu. A-C was nice to give us a drink and we enjoy the last hour of our ride. As we went off the boat, we said good-bye and A-C came up to us and said, OH I need you both to pay for our drinks. I said, What? You never mentioned a price? You should have mentioned that there was a fee. Then my boyfriend got the fee and I was MAD because that ruined my time on this adventure. The girl should have paid for our drinks since there was NO mention of the price at all. She knew about it and said, I am sorry. Still, she should have paid for our tab. Try hiring people that mention a price. (Thumb down)

It pains me to write this, I really wanted to enjoy this excursion. There's been so many positive reviews about this company that my negative experience is made all the more disappointing. But alas, my outing was undeniably lacking. To set the stage, I purchased some coupon vouchers for an Introductory Sail Trip for a bachelor party in August I was planning (yes, belated review...I've been busy!) The invitees had no experience with any sort of sailing, save for one late-comer with mostly novice-level experience, so no expectations were initially set (other than the trip description). It led to discussions before, during and after the trip. Sadly, it didn't improve the outcome of this experience. Here are the main issues: 1. Booking - Online booking is on an individual basis. So if you're booking for a large group, you end up signing everybody up one by one. It took me about an hour to get a party of 5 signed up. - They don't seem to keep track of your online waivers. So when we actually got to the boat, we still got asked if we had signed. So if I were to ever do this again -- which I definitely won't -- I'l be skipping the online waiver. 2. Sailing Experience - Firstly, ship was clean. Nobody tripped, nothing stunk. However... - Set sail late, docked early. I don't think we even got 3 hours out of this 3.5 hr trip - Poor trip planning. Three individuals did not get to steer, all three came from our party of five. You would think that unless anyone stated any apathy towards the steering/hands-on component of the trip (which no one did), a competent (or unbiased) planner would divide the time at the wheel evenly amongst the nine guests. He did walk from stern to bow to ask one of the other parties to try the steering, so it's not clear why the other three weren't asked in a similar way. - Not funny/entertaining? I know, completely subjective, shouldn't belong here. But it was really weird: a. the captain ended up grabbing my leg through the cabin window, I think with the intent to make it seem like a shark bite. There was no other answer when I had asked him about it afterwards. b. Around the midway point, he had asked if everybody was having fun, and invited those who weren't to approach him; followed by a reminder of the 250 ft. waters surrounding the boat. That would've been funny, IMHO, if everybody was actually having fun, instead of waiting for their turn to steer... c. After we had docked, i.e. when the sailing was over, he had provided a pirate hat and plastic sword for the groom to pose in. Ignoring the question of why this wasn't provided before or during the sail, why it was thought that this would have looked fitting (especially when there was a captain's hat) on a modern, motorized sailboat goes towards that odd sense of humour. 3. Customer Service - Response time is fast, when he wants to be. Sent pre-sailing emails quickly, the post-sail feedback request was sent shortly afterwards by the end of the weekend. Never did get a response for my detailed review I sent, though. - Adequate correspondence was something much left to be desired. Harmless questions around possible ideas to make the bachelor party more memorable were interpreted as ways we wanted to clown around with disregard for everyone's fun and/or safety; followed by an ultimatum to sail by his rules (which we always intended) or "spend time at a playground". I don't know why he didn't raise further ideas, like the pirate hat/sword he later introduced on his own, but it's moot with respect to the conclusion of poor communication. In short, great potential (considering the overall proposition), poor execution, very disappointing. Skip over for the other intro sailing outfits along the Toronto harbourfront.

Its interesting that Yelp only posts the only negative review where as 9 positive reviews are hidden from view. We appreciate feedback from all our customers. The trip that was purchased was a GROUP sail where as this customer was looking for a "bachelor party" experience. Activities such as "throwing the groom over" as was requested are not part of our introductory sail routine. It was suggested that the customer purchase a private sail where such horseplay is more accepted. At Gone Sailing Adventures, we take the safety and enjoyment of all of our guests on the boat as a top priority. With regard to our booking system... we are currently working with a new service provider and hope that we will be able to process multiple reservations using DISCOUNT coupons simultaneously. We recommend that all our guests arrive early so that we can start on time. We send reminder notices 24hr in advance and advise of the current traffic and congestion along the waterfront. The late start that this customer refers to is a result of waiting for two of his group one arrived late and one did not show up at all. We like to provide an opportunity for all sailors to take the helm who want to and do canvas the group but also rely on individuals to step up which is outlined in our opening remarks before every sail. . As part of our sail there is some entertaining and jokes that are directed to the group. Unfortunately, this individual had a sour opinion getting on to start and much of our comedy was lost. If you are looking for childish horseplay, we agree with this customer and look somewhere else. If you are looking for a relaxing and enjoyable sail this adventure is for you.
