A City at Sea: New Mega-Yacht Concept Resembles the Streets of Monaco

Mega Yacht Concept Resembles the Streets of Monaco

A sovereign city-state located in the French Riviera, Monaco is known as a “billionaire’s playground” for its lavish lifestyle, beautiful architecture, high-end casinos, and love for its famous annual street circuit race, The Monaco Grand Prix. The city also draws thousands of tourists every year, looking to soak in the stunning Mediterranean views and take a yacht ride through one of its many gorgeous harbors. Recently, Yacht Island Design , a boating design firm known for its out-of-this-world yacht concepts, has taken on a new project inspired by this French paradise’s luxury appeal, and there’s no other idea quite like it on the market today.

The Streets of Monaco is a 508-foot-long superyacht concept that has all the amenities of this beloved French province, wrapped into one over-the-top vessel. If built, it can house up to 16 guests and a crew of 70 to ensure a top-notch, individualized service experience for everyone onboard—all while cruising at a comfortable 15 mph at sea. What distinguishes this boat design from the rest, however, isn’t just its Mediterranean-style façade or its impressive size. The Streets of Monaco will deliver just what its name suggests—all the comforts and beauty of Monaco, including an onboard casino, racetrack, and stylized interiors that mimic the city’s iconic surroundings.

High Life on the High Seas

super yachts in monaco

When it goes into production, this imposing yacht will be from top to bottom an homage to the sumptuous beauty of Monaco. All of the must-see landmarks have been integrated into the boat’s clever design. Rooms inspired by everything from the Hotel de Paris to Lowes Hotel to the Monte Carlo Casino can be found throughout the vessel’s sprawling interior, and the Grand Atrium and Oasis areas offer airy foyer-like spaces that center the vessel’s living space and make passengers feel as though they never left land. The boat’s four decks contain a variety of living areas, each with Monaco-inspired interior designs, with lavish colors and ornate decorations that offer a slice of paradise and amazing ambience while away at sea.

The deck of the ship is home to several sparkling swimming pools, overlooking the high seas, and of course, what over-the-top yacht wouldn’t come equipped with a helipad and a tennis court? Perhaps The Streets of Monaco’s most innovative concept, though, is its indoor racetrack, which allows up to three passengers to get out their checkered flags, hop in a go-kart, and race each other to their heart’s content. The boat’s exterior also reflects the towering roadways of Monaco, with its white colonnades, soaring arches, and castle-like structures. Inside, passengers can also ascend from the pool area via a marble staircase up to the ship’s spa area, where everyone onboard can melt their cares away with a massage or time in the sauna. This yacht concept—a marvel of modern engineering—is for owners who want to turn heads, and spark imaginations, while sailing into any harbor.

A Billion Dollar Investment

super yachts in monaco

The Streets of Monaco may look like an extension of this celebrated French province adrift at sea, but its staggering price tag is also reflective of the high-end residents and clientele who live there. At a staggering one billion dollar estimated production cost, this superyacht is only for the most well-to-do investors, who want to spend some serious time away from the cares of land-living and get lost at sea—if only for a while. Purchasing this yacht is like buying a floating estate, however, offering a dance hall, thousands of square feet of cozy living space, and sundecks with private jacuzzis, among other things. For the world’s wealthiest—and luckiest—patrons, this Monaco dreamboat, and all of its stunning features, can become an enviable, larger than life reality.

Monaco itinerary

Start your Monaco yacht charter in Portofino. Originally a small fishing village shaded by eucalyptus and olive trees, it's become a sunny and relaxing paradise on the Ligurian Riviera. Start your superyacht charter to Monaco here, where you can enjoy the exquisite swimming cove at Paraggi or the summit of Monte Portofino. Drinks at the famous Hotel Splendido overlooking the harbour are a must.

Porto Cervo

Following an overnight crossing, you’ll wake up in the capital of the exclusive Costa Smeralda, Porto Cervo. The breathtaking views, crystal-clear water, golf, tennis, great food and night-life are the main attractions of this Meditteranean gem. Blessed with many beautiful sandy beaches, relax and enjoy playing with water toys in the magnificent waters of Porto Cervo. Cruise to Liscia di Vacca for a late lunch or for some tranquillity and relaxation time. This beautiful bay boasts clear turquoise water and is situated between the harbours Porto Cervo and Pevero. When the sun goes, head to Cervo’s lively marina for dinner and drinks in the evening.

Cala di Volpe

Arrive in the morning after a short cruise in Cala di Volpe, a beautiful wide bay fringed with sandy beaches and clear waters that’s perfect for snorkelling and watersports. Spend the day anchored off the bay of Cala di Volpe which is well protected from the wind, Its crowning feature is the spectacular five-star Hotel Cala di Volpe at the end of the bay. This hotel is overlooked by the Pevero Golf Course and on the other side are the fabulous villas of La Celvia.

La Maddalena

Start the day with breakfast on-board before enjoying the water toys in La Maddalena Archipelago. When you’re tired, it’s time to relax between Caprera and Maddalene, nicknamed ‘swimming pool bay’ thanks to its crystal clear waters. Stopover at the marine reserve of Lavezzi, known to divers as ‘Meruville’ due to its impressive tally of resident Meru (or grouper) fish. The reef comprises a series of rocky pinnacles coated in yellow cup coral, ideal for snorkelling. Spend the night anchored between Caprera and Maddalena.

You’ll arrive at St Tropez in time for breakfast. This modern version of a medieval town is popular for the line of stylish yachts along the quay and quaint terrace cafes. The small picturesque streets are perhaps more famous for the multitude of boutiques and restaurants than for any historical significance. Relax and enjoy watersports and swimming in the lovely blue waters of the Bay of St Tropez before cruising to St Tropez Port late afternoon ahead of sunset.

In the morning you'll have a leisurely breakfast whilst cruising to Monaco. Spend the afternoon enjoying watersports, swimming and soaking up the sun. Shop at the famous Cercle d’Or, check out the alleys of the old town or browse the galleries of the Métropole shopping centre and the Allées Lumières. For a night out on the town, the Casino and Hotel de Paris are all synonymous with Monaco. Go for drinks at the hotel’s famous American Bar, or try Louis XV by Alain Ducasse. You could dine at Cipriani to experience its luxury nautical theme and Mediterranean menu, or try La Trattoria by Alain Ducasse and its Tuscan-inspired Italian cuisine.

Your Monaco superyacht charter finishes at 12 noon. Depart and spend the rest of your day enjoying all that the Principality has to offer.

Super Yachts at the Iconic Monaco Grand Prix

' src=

Whilst attending the Monaco Grand Prix last weekend Yacht Informer took the opportunity to see some of the fantastic super yachts that were also there.

The Monaco Grand Prix took place on May 28, 2023. It is one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world. Held annually in the Principality of Monaco, the race is a major tourist attraction, drawing millions of spectators from around the globe.

super yachts in monaco

The event attracts a massive A-List of who’s who of celebrities, athletes, and high-profile business leaders who could easily afford a luxury super yacht or two! You may be able to spot a few celebrities enjoying some of the most popular beaches in Monaco, such as Larvotto Beach, known for its fine sand and clear waters, or Plage du Rocher – a smaller beach located in the heart of Monaco. If you want to increase your chances of spotting a celebrity, these are the beaches you should head to!

However, while Formula One motor racing is the main attraction, the super yachts that line the harbour are also a significant draw for race visitors and fans of exquisite luxury and wealth.

Yacht Informer was on hand at the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix, and we were utterly blown away by the sheer number and size of the luxury yachts that were moored in the harbour this year. From sleek superyachts and classic sailing boats to luxury powerboats, there was something for everyone to gasp at and admire.

Yacht spotting in Port Hercules

The harbour area in Monaco where super yachts can moor is called Port Hercules. It is located in the heart of the city, just a short stroll from all the major attractions, and it is home to some of the most expensive and exclusive luxury yachts in the world.

The port is also a popular tourist destination in its own right, and it offers stunning views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea. The port was built in the early 1920s and has been expanded several times since then.

The port can accommodate yachts of up to 150 meters in length and has a total of 1,600 berths. The port is also home to several yacht clubs and a popular destination for yacht races and regattas. It is a beautiful and impressive sight and a great place to see some of the most expensive and exclusive luxury yachts in the world.

  • Azzam: This 591-foot yacht is the world’s largest private yacht. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the ruler of Abu Dhabi, owns it.

  • Solaris: This 140-foot yacht is owned by American businessman Larry Ellison. It features a swimming pool, a tennis court, and a basketball court.

These are just some of our favourite yachts we saw moored in the harbour at the Monaco Grand Prix. If you are ever lucky enough to attend this prestigious event, take some time out from watching the racing to admire the yachts.

Many of the yachts on display in Monaco use the latest cutting-edge design and technology, giving us a glimpse of what the future of yachting might hold. For example, the Solaris yacht features a glass-bottomed swimming pool that allows passengers to view the underwater world below. This is a new trend in yacht design that is becoming increasingly popular.

The Azzam yacht is also a great example of the latest trends in yacht design. It is the largest private yacht in the world, and it features many innovative design features, such as a missile defence system.

Superyacht Chef Competition: nine contestants, only one winner

superyacht-chef-competition-candidats-jury

Held at the prestigious Monaco Yacht Club, the fifth edition of the Superyacht Chef Competition brought together some of the world’s top chefs, both in the kitchen and on the judging panel, to shine the spotlight on this often little-known profession in the yachting world.

Creativity, originality, adaptability, efficiency, composure… were the key words on competition day. Nine superyacht chefs took up the challenge of creating dishes using surprise ingredients, in record time and in a limited space. The conditions were almost identical to those on a boat, apart from the added bonus of all the spectators who came out in force to cheer them on. On the jury, the three-starred Chef and jury member from the French TV show Top Chef   Glenn Viel was accompanied by five other fine dining experts.

Every gesture counts

Each candidate had only five minutes to find out what was in their mystery basket. Forty minutes to concoct and cook four identical servings that would then be carefully tasted by the experts.  “A Chef is someone who cooks with their emotions and feelings on the day. When you create a dish, the inspiration comes from the product you have in front of you, a smell, an image, colours… which give us the idea for a unique dish. On the jury, we will be interested in the originality and quality of the recipe. As would the owner of a yacht in fact,” explains Chef Julien Roucheteau, double Michelin star holder and competition jury member.

As well as being creative, the candidates needed to cook with an environmentally responsible and low-waste approach. All the ingredients in the basket had to be used, or the chef would be penalised by the jury. The event is part of the Monaco Yacht Club’s Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSR) policy.

Superyacht Chef Competition to bring together exceptional chefs

And the winner is…

With a recipe involving candied lobster with hazelnut butter and bisque, accompanied by a tartare of caviar with lemon, then a dessert composed of a mascarpone cream with cocoa and a strawberry tartare with basil and lemon cream… Paulo Ucha Longhin (M/Y Hercules – 50m) titillated the jury’s taste buds and won the competition!

“ It was a big challenge for me, but I wanted to show the audience that anything is possible. Just believe in it, work hard, but above all, do what you love. If you don’t love what you do, it won’t work out. That’s the key. During the competition I was really intimidated by all the cameras and the clock. I’m not used to it, this was a first for me. At the start of the competition it was difficult, but in the final I managed to be more focused, better organised and to do what I’m capable of. I’m super happy,” Paulo said, all smiles.

Billionaire fights to dock his boat on water behind his house. His 164-foot boat, that is.

The love of the water, and a mega-yacht to enjoy it, is putting one resident at odds with village of north palm beach leaders..

For some people, the ultimate Florida lifestyle is a waterfront house , a private dock and a boat parked next to it. But what if that boat is a mega-yacht , and the mega-yacht stretches 164 feet?

That's the conundrum facing the Village of North Palm Beach.

This tiny community in northern Palm Beach County, with only 13,000 full-time residents, has an identity so tied to the water that a ship's steering wheel is the village's emblem.

But it's that love of the water that is putting one resident at odds with village leaders.

For the past several years, homeowner Michael Bozutto has been battling the village for the right to park his 164-foot Westport, dubbed Honey, behind a home he owns at 932 Shore Drive.

The house, built in 1961, is a one-story, ranch-style property with three bedrooms on a half-acre lot. Bozzuto paid $840,247 for the house in 2014, according to Palm Beach County property records.

Lawsuit rooted in dispute over where to dock mega-yacht

What makes this plain house special is its location. It's on a rare corner bordered on the north and east by navigable waters that provide access to the Atlantic Ocean via the Lake Worth Inlet. The east-facing dock is large enough to accommodate Bozzuto's motor yacht.

Since Bozutto bought Honey for an undisclosed sum a decade ago, he mostly has parked it at the Old Port Cove Marina, near Tiger Woods' 155-foot showy mega-yacht, ironically dubbed Privacy.

More recently, Bozzuto has wanted to park Honey alongside his Shore Drive house, one of four houses he owns in the village. While Bozzuto keeps some personal property at the Shore Drive house, he lives at a house he owns at Harbour Isles Court.

Village officials warned Bozzuto he can't park Honey at 932 Shore Drive because boats can only be parked on docks behind houses that are occupied by the homeowner.

But village rules do not define the word "occupied." For instance, the rules do not state that occupied means the house is a residence where the owner lives. Village rules also contain no restrictions on the size of boats that can be kept at private docks.

After years of pushing back against what he believes are fuzzy rules, Bozzuto in March filed a lawsuit against the village.

He alleged the municipality is illegally depriving him of his property rights because nothing in the village code prevents him from mooring Honey at his house. He is asking a Palm Beach County Circuit Court judge to rule that he has a constitutional right to dock Honey there.

Gregory Coleman, Bozzuto's West Palm Beach attorney, said the village has plenty of waterfront homes with yachts parked behind them. But Coleman said the village is illegally blocking Bozzuto from docking Honey at his house because the village is bending to pressure from a handful of neighbors who think the boat is too big.

The selective enforcement is wrong, said Coleman, a former president of the Florida Bar.

"He's a very under-the-radar guy who doesn't cause anybody any problems," Coleman said of Bozzuto. "He pays his property taxes, and he wants to be left alone by the village of North Palm Beach. Unfortunately, they are singling Mike out."

Neither Leonard Rubin, the village's longtime attorney, nor Village Manager Chuck Huff responded to requests for comment.

Eric Stettin, a Fort Lauderdale-based attorney who is representing the village in the Bozzuto lawsuit, said he could not comment on pending litigation.

What good is a man's castle if he can't have a boat in his moat?

Coleman's lawsuit describes the conflict as a battle over property rights, but real estate and yachting experts say it's also a sign of the times.

As wealthy new residents pour into the county wanting all the perks of the Sunshine State, they want a boat to go along with their waterfront homes and golf club memberships. Some longtime residents fear Palm Beach County is turning into a playground for billionaires, to the detriment of everyday people who also want to live in sunshine and peace.

This conflict between Old Florida and new money is an ever-present tension, but even seasoned yacht brokers say they've never seen interest in luxury yachts quite as strong as it is now.

"What we've seen in the marketplace right after COVID in the yachting industry, and especially the superyacht segment, is the most incredible growth ever seen in the history of yachting to date," said Shannon McCoy, a luxury yacht advisor and broker with Worth Avenue Yachts in Palm Beach.

"A lot of people are moving here with serious money," added Pascal Savoy, U.S. managing director of Camper & Nicholsons International yacht brokers in Fort Lauderdale.

While in the past Palm Beach County was not considered lively enough for some buyers, Savoy said the county's growing sophistication is putting it on the map in a way never seen before.

"It's a mini-Monaco for us," Savoy said.

Prices for mega-yachts can range from $18 million to $60 million, or many times that, for the largest and most decked-out mega-yachts, Savoy said.

While some yachts can be glitzy, a 164-foot Westport is considered a more low-profile boat, Savoy added.

Michael Bozzuto's interests: Houses, boats and philanthropy

Bozzuto is no newcomer to North Palm Beach. He's been a resident of the village for 20 years.

He is the billionaire owner of a family-owned supermarket wholesaler in Connecticut, and an investor and philanthropist who likes to collect houses and yachts, Coleman said.

In addition to the four North Palm Beach houses and several yachts he owns, Bozzuto in February paid a whopping $31.1 million for a house in the Town of Palm Beach Shores. The house, which has two docks, sits just north of the Palm Beach/Lake Worth Inlet.

Coleman said there is plenty of room for other boaters to navigate the waterway when Honey is parked at the Shore Drive house in North Palm Beach. And while other people may not have as large a yacht, there are other sizeable yachts parked on docks behind other North Palm Beach homes, too, he added.

At a 2017 village council meeting, then-Mayor Darryl Aubrey commented on the issue, according to the complaint.

"When I didn't live here full time, I had a boat sitting in my dock, I was gone nine months of the year. I don't see how you can say that someone has to be in a residence year-round, seems to be some interpretation of occupant, there would be an enormous number of violations," Aubrey said.

Another member of the village council asked if the village had a definition now, the complaint said.

Rubin, the village attorney, replied: "No, we don't," according to the lawsuit.

Palm Beach County's waterways run deep, and they are popular

The yacht docking dispute is particularly timely, given the scarcity of dock space for boats of all sizes.

The most convenient place to park a boat is on the water behind a house, brokers say. But not every waterway or channel can accommodate the draft, or depth, of a mega-yacht.

However, the dock behind Bozzuto's Shore Drive house can.

Not only is the Westport not known for its deep hulls, but the waterway also is typical of northern Palm Beach County, which boasts deep water and easy access to the ocean via the Lake Worth Inlet, said Coleman, a lifelong boater.

"In Palm Beach County, they have deeper water, and it allows people to have larger yachts," Savoy agreed.

But not every waterway is deep enough for every boat.

McCoy said she specializes in helping advise potential yacht owners about the county's varied water depths before they buy a house, if they plan to dock their yacht behind it.

If yacht owners don't have a private dock, the other option is a marina. But marina space is hard to find, with many dock berths reserved for months in advance, McCoy said.

Despite the challenges of owning a boat and finding a place to dock it, yacht brokers say demand continues.

They see interest continuing from business executives moving here with their families as they relocate their companies to Palm Beach County. There's also a growing demand for yachts among female buyers, McCoy added.

They also see younger mega-yacht buyers, some even in their early 30s. This is in sharp contrast to the mostly older buyers in the past, Savoy said.

Palm Beach County may not be as go-go as Miami-Dade County when it comes to showy ships, but if interest continues, "it's coming," Savoy said. "You're going to attract bigger yachts."

Put another way: "No one needs a boat, but everyone needs a boat," McCoy said. "It's the ultimate lifestyle."
