Motor Yacht

The new 70 meters super yacht, Polaris, is able to navigate in extreme ice conditions, including the Arctic. Polaris' point of difference is that it has been developed with an emphasis on yachting lifestyle, able to move from the warm waters of the Caribbean to the sub-zero conditions of Antarctica. First look: Meyer Yachts reveals interior of first 150m ultra-sustainable concept

Meyer Yachts, the superyacht division of commerical shipbuilder Meyer Werft, took the opportunity at the Monaco Yacht Show to reveal the first interior renderings of its 150 metre concept known as ONE50. 

The concept was first announced at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2021 and is the first design launched under the superyacht division. ONE50 spans six decks with a 20 metre beam and a herculean volume of 15,000 GT. The yacht is also designed to be powered by fuel cell technology and battery banks, powered by 25,000 kilowatts of electricity to deliver a top speed of 23 knots.

Her interior design has been developed in-house and is home to several first-of-its-kind features. One such feature is a cavernous spa set over two levels encompassing several hundred square metres of floor space. A retractable swimming pool can be found on the starboard side that slides out to sit above the water, alongside a wellness bar, massage parlour, sauna and hammam. 

"The wellness and health aspect has been a trend in the superyacht segment for years. With this extravagant spa, we want to set an example and show what is possible for us," said Lars Kruse, head of sales at Meyer Yachts. 

Elsewhere, the top deck is reserved for the owner's use only and is home to forward facing suite and private forward terrace. "They [the owner] can practically step straight out of bed into the pool, which is designed as an indoor-outdoor variant and connects the suite with the foredeck," Kruse added. Other features include a private lounge with a TV and audio system as well as a number of private dining options. 

“We are opening the next chapter in our history and entering the market for mega yachts,” said Meyer Group chief executive Bernard Meyer. “We can realise almost limitless ideas and ship sizes - even the craziest ones. We are currently seeing that the demand for mega yachts is increasing and there is room for another shipyard in this segment”.

The company's commitment to alternative fuels underpins the vision of Meyer Yachts. "We see a lot of potential in mega yachts for new environmentally technologies and we attach great importance to this," the group said.

With its roots in the cruising sector, Meyer Group already has the facilities to build yachts up to 500 metres in length and will position itself at the top end of the market with the aim to build the "world's largest and greenest mega yachts".

Clearwater Beach tour boat captain was drunk on the job, fell off boat, police say

A tour boat captain stumbled into work on Clearwater Beach, voyaged out to sea and drunkenly fell overboard, police said.

John Beckwith, 53, was arrested Friday on a charge of boating under the influence. The captain for Clearwater Fun Boat Tours had 30 customers on board, some telling police he was so impaired he fell off the boat.

Employees told Clearwater police Beckwith “arrived to work stumbling and had food all over his face,” according to an arrest report.

Officers noticed his eyes were bloodshot and they smelled alcohol on his breath. Beckwith “performed poorly” on a field sobriety test and blew a 0.118 on a breathalyzer, which is over the 0.08 level at which Florida law says someone is impaired.

Beckwith was released Saturday afternoon without being required to post bail. The incident is Beckwith’s fourth charge for operating a vehicle while impaired, records show. He was convicted twice in Michigan and again for an “extreme DUI” in Arizona.

The Clearwater Beach tour provides customers a chance to spot dolphins playing in the waves “while indulging in a delicious ice cream sundae” on a “family-friendly boat,” according to the company’s website . Last year, it was awarded Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Award, the website states.

Neither Beckwith nor a representative for the tour boat company could be reached by phone for comment.

Coachella weekend 1 arrests down 20 percent from 2023, coachella weekend 1 less rowdy than last year ... fewer arrests, citations.

It looks like people were better behaved at Coachella Weekend 1 this year ... because arrests were down significantly compared to last year, TMZ has learned.

Indio PD released their data from the festival's first installment ... and they say they only clocked 81 arrests in their system between Friday and Sunday -- which is pretty damn low compared to years past, especially 2023.

That's down 20% from the 102 arrests made last year. There was also a small smattering of citations issued -- just 47 -- and they're all handicap parking related ... down 43% from last year.

Still, there was some bad behavior at Coachella this past weekend. Per IPD ... 28 arrests were made regarding drug and alcohol intoxication, as well as an additional 28 arrests for possession of drugs for sale.

The cops say they made 18 arrests relating to fake IDs ... but there were only 3 arrests made for property crimes. Cops also want festival-goers to still keep an eye on their cell phones ... as it sounds like there were a lot went missing during the weekend.

As for the remaining 4 arrests ... those were dropped under an "Other" category, so who the hell knows what those could be.

While it's reassuring to hear how relatively well-behaved everyone was for Weekend 1 ... it does follow the trend from previous years. Remember, in 2022, weekend 2 saw significantly rowdier crowds ... with 36% more arrests taking place after weekend 1.

Perhaps the dip in crime has something to do with Coachella's ticket sales being down??? Fewer people may just translate into fewer overall incidents ... that logic tracks with us.

We'll have to wait for the weekend 2 data to prove our theory. Stay tuned!
