The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is due at the time of the final charter payment. Under MYBA terms, this sum is usually equivalent to 30 per cent of the total charter fee, but may be up to 40 per cent in some cases.

Intended to cover the operating expenses of a charter as explained under Charter Terms, such as fuel, food, drinks, port fees and ad hoc incidentals, the APA will be given to the captain before the start of your charter. The Captain will ensure that the yacht is fully fuelled and provisioned when you step on board. While an up-to-date summary of accounts can be requested at any time during your charter, a full set of accounts will normally be submitted by your captain at the end of the cruise. If, during the charter, the expenditure exceeds the sum already paid, additional cash funds will be required at once.

All outstanding bills from the yacht charter should be settled in cash or by bank transfer before your final disembarkation. Of course, any remaining credit at the end of your charter will be reimbursed to you in full. On request, transfer arrangements to and from the yacht can be made by Burgess or by the yacht’s captain, payment for which will be deducted from your APA.

Everything went perfectly. The information about the boat we received in advance was more than we have received with past charters. A full inventory of the boat in advance as well as the location of all switches, valves, through hulls etc and then we had the opportunity to check all of this before our technical check-in. The base manager Jan was very friendly and competent and could answer any questions we had about the boat, the location activities and much more. When we had a minor problem on the first morning he did everything he could to get us up and going as quickly as humanly possible. The whole base staff were incredibly friendly and always there to lend a hand with a smile any time we had contact with them. We look forward to coming back again hopefully at the start of next season.

I discovered Click&Boat surfing the Internet. I am a naturally curious person, and your website caught my attention right away. I started reading about your general terms and conditions, where I quickly found a phone number. After talking to the client service, which was very pleasing, I decided to try out the platform.

At the age of 16, I was volunteering for the Red Cross of the Sea, where our goal was to assure sailing regattas. It is during that period that I learned to navigate on small boats for the first time. After 30 years, I finally got to own my first fishing boat bigger than 8 meters in length. Five years ago, a friend of mine who made his fishing boat available for charter, invited me to come aboard with him and some clients. It is then that I saw how much people appreciated the sea. So, I decided to pass my professional license to be able to take people out on the water in Mallorca.

The service that I offer is simple charters without skipper, because many people own a boat license, and our vessels are easy to handle. We are starting private excursions where we can take people on the boats to places they could not go to by themselves.

Most of the profits we make are spent on fleet upgrades. I always like to remember how thankful renters are when they are satisfied with our service.

The Ackinclose Family

This was the holiday of a lifetime. When we returned, we immediately got off the boat and walked straight into the office to book again for the following year.

We had an absolute blast. And really the boat was the centre piece of that. It was everything we could have asked for; spacious, luxurious, comfortable, plenty of water storage and fridge/freezer space, room to spread out, great cooking facilities, plenty of lounging areas and a hot shower and comfy bed at the end of every day.

Perhaps most importantly it allowed us to ‘choose our own adventure’! This holiday had it all…. turquoise waters, swimming, snorkeling, fishing, isolated beaches, white sand, incredible walks, beach combing, whales, dolphins, turtles, tropical fish, and some high sea adventures! It’s one thing to visit the Whitsundays, it’s another altogether to holiday ON the Whitsundays. Being on the water 24/7 is an experience unlike any other… it was pure joy!

We loved being on our own (the perfect covid safe holiday really!), enjoying each others company and everyday being an adventure. Not to mention relaxing and unwinding with the most amazing scenery and sunsets. This is a holiday you and your children will remember forever!

Throughout the charter the support from the ops team is first rate. Whether you want to know where the best place to overnight for the conditions, or if you need some advice about the boat, they will always go the extra mile to ensure you have the best holiday possible. Shoutout to Jordans mobile outboard repairs that paid us a quick visit in Stonehaven to help sort us out.

The absolute highlight for this trip was the time we had all of Whitehaven Beach entirely to ourselves for a few hours on a sunny afternoon. A magical moment that is unlikely to be repeated.

We’re already booked in for our next charter with Whitsunday Escape over Christmas and can’t wait to get back up there.

Red snapper season strong for most, some say maybe a bit too long

Although many say the extended red snapper season was good, some charter boat captains think it may have been a bit too long. 

Red snapper season opened June 1 and ran through Aug. 25 for the charter boats that carry a federal for-hire reef fish permit, which is the majority of the Destin fleet. The 85-day season was the longest in more than a decade. The limit was two snapper per person and the fish must measure 16 inches to keep. 

“We had a great snapper season,” said Capt. Judah Barbee of the Stelluna, a 52-foot charter boat at HarborWalk. 

“I think three months is way too long of a season,” Barbee said. “I feel like we will probably see the effects of the extended season next year,” he said, noting they most likely over harvested this year. 

“We need to just stick with a two-month season for the next five years and see how the fishery handles it,” Barbee said.

"Business was a little slower than the previous three years but it was still a good season. I’m very thankful for the year that we’ve had so far,” he added. 

Capt. Alex Hare of the Silver King, a 25-foot center console boat at East Pass Marina says he had an “incredible” season. 

“I would say I was about as busy as I normally am … definitely blessed with return customers,” Hare said. He said if it hadn’t been for the return business, he might have struggled like some folks did. 

Hare, however, agrees with Barbee about the long season.  

“I do not think we should have a three-month season on snappers,” Hare said. 

Hare explained that by the second week of July, “it got harder and harder to catch them, to the point where I would not target them unless I had long trips... just too much in my opinion.” 

Nonetheless, Hare said he was “blessed beyond blessed to have the season” he had. 

For Capt. Stan Phillips on the Destination, a 55-boat at HarborWalk, he said snapper season was “pretty good overall.” 

“We didn’t run quite as many hours as we have some years, but we certainly stayed busy,” Phillips said. 

“We carried a lot of passengers and caught a lot of red snapper. As you would expect, it got a bit tougher towards the end of the season, but it was still surprisingly good fishing,” Phillips said. 

The Destination has a capacity for 27 customers. 

Capt. Cliff Cox of the Sweet Jody, a 56-foot 40-passenger party boat at Fishing Fleet Marina, said he stayed busy as well. 

“The longer snapper season was good for us,” Cox said, who’s been fishing out of Destin for more than four decades.

“It extended our busy season a few weeks and I ran as much as I wanted to,” said Cox, who has lightened up his schedule quite a bit the last couple of years. 

Were there plenty of red snapper to go around?  

“That’s a tough one. I will say this, that never before have I seen as much fishing pressure as there is now. The private recreational boats and guide boat numbers are growing rapidly and they are putting a lot of additional pressure on the fishing in general,” Cox said. 

“As Capt. Dale Beebe used to say, 'Too many lumberjacks, not enough trees.' ” 

For Capt. Kyle Lowe of the Special K he said his red snapper season “was strong.” 

“It certainly got more challenging late in the season and business has certainly slowed down since late August,” Lowe said. 

Capt. Tony Davis of the Anastasia, also at HarborWalk, said he had a “very good season.”

“Every year is different, you just have to find them,” said Davis, who has been at it for more than four decades. 

Capt. Chip Godwin on the Sea Fix, which docks behind AJ’s Seafood and Oyster Bar, said they had a “pretty dang good” season. 

“I think we ended up running 60 hours more than last year,” Godwin said. 

“And I think there was still plenty of snappers … all in all, a good season,” he said. 

Charter boats run anywhere from four-, six-, eight-, 10- and 12-hour trips, as well as some overnight trips.  

“We had a great season,” said Capt. Tyler Brielmayer of the charter boat Nothin’ Matters at Fishing Fleet Marina. 

“We limited out every time but could definitely see the grade was a little smaller this year than last,” he said. 

Nevertheless, Brielmayer said, “we stayed busy the whole season.” 

As for Taylor Waterfield on the Hound Dog at East Pass Marina, he said they had a “decent season.” 

“Across the board for spring, summer, and fall it has been a lot less bookings than normal for everyone,” Waterfield said.

“We did actually have some snappers left in August, but I think it was because half of our fleet sat at the dock most of the summer. Instead of the whole fleet running doubles every single day ... it was much slower, so I think the fish lasted a little longer,” he said. 

Waterfield also said there were a lot less people walking the docks, which he attributed to the pay to park up and down the harbor. 

“I think that is probably hurting us a little too,” he said. 

“Hopefully we’ll have more people in town next year,” Waterfield said.
