The Portugal legend is currently lounging on his amazing £5.5million yacht in Sardinia.

The former Man Utd striker is enjoying a much-needed break in Porto Cervo, Sardinia with his family, including Georgina Rodriguez and their brood.

The famous Wag took to Instagram show off their holiday, with Ronaldo spotted diving into the ocean and the group posing for a family snap.

Of course, they are doing it in style on board the lavish 88-feet long Azimut Grande, which they splashed the cash on in 2020.

Built in Azimut-Benett 's shipyards in Versilia, Italy, it boasts five luxury cabins and six stunningly decorated bathrooms.

In 2020, Ronaldo spotted the yacht in Viareggio, Italy, at the Azimut-Benetti Shipyards before buying it for himself. Called the Azimut-Grande 27, the yacht offers dynamic stability with its carbon-fiber structure that reduces weight and increases the surface area. Azimut-Grande 27 was designed by Achille Salvagni Architects, while the prolific superyacht designer Stefano Righini completed the exterior styling. The yacht's overall length is 26.78 meters, width is 6.59 meters with a maximum speed of 28 knots, as reported by Azimut Yachts .

The yacht's interior is equipped with space and comfort that the family can enjoy. It features five expansive bedrooms and six equally stunning bathrooms. Additionally, it has two lounge rooms with a dining table in the adjoining open area for a romantic dinner. The kitchen is stocked with modern appliances for the crew to make meals, as stated by Daily Star . The deck has an open bar with two lounge areas to bask in the sunlight next to it. The Owner's Cabin is located on the yacht's Main Deck and has full-height windows on all sides to offer a scenic view of the ocean.

The Azimut-Grande 27 was built considering the highest nautical standards and has received the CE Category A and NMMA certifications that ensure that the boat follows two important safety codes. At the Wheelhouse, the yacht is equipped with an Optimus Electronic Power Steering system created by Seastar Solutions and helps the owner configure responses to eliminate hydraulic lines from the helm station. With its Active Trim Control, the superyacht offers an increase in speed and lower fuel consumption.

As mentioned by The Sun , after purchasing the Azimut-Grande 27, Cristiano Ronaldo first set sail on the superyacht in 2020 and took it on a debut voyage to the Tyrrhenian coast, which is a part of the Mediterranean Sea with his girlfriend and children. The day after the match between Portugal and Iceland, won thanks to CR7’s goal in the 89th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo boarded a private plane that took him directly to the Costa Smeralda airport in Olbia, where the famous footballer is arrived around 9 today, Wednesday 21 June. To welcome the 38-year-old there were three sailors who, as reported today New Sardinia will accompany him during the day on board the yacht on which Ronaldo will spend a few days relaxing with a unique view of the Costa Smeralda. In the 2007/2008 season, after the move from Manchester to Real Madrid, Ronaldo chose Sardinia for a relaxing holiday and he also returned there during the 2018/2019 season, when he said goodbye to Real Madrid and moved to Juventus. His yacht is one almost permanent presence in the Maddalena archipelago and also for this 2023 Ronaldo has decided not to interrupt the tradition.

Sardinia luxury yacht charter

Sardinia’s scalloped bays, shimmering sands and dramatic coastline have long been the playground of screen starlets, royalty, first families and the yachting elite. With some of the most exclusive harbours, hotels and restaurants in the western Mediterranean, a luxury yacht charter around the Italian island of Sardinia seamlessly combines sun-soaked glamour with timeless elegance and natural beauty. Sardinia is hot and dry from May to October with the island enjoying an average of 300 days of sunshine a year. Peak charter months are July and August, though June is also an excellent time to charter. August is particularly busy as most Italians take their holidays during this month.

Most rain falls between October and February, giving much of Sardinia a lush and verdant character. Visitors may well experience balmy summer days in March and April, though evenings will be cool during this time of year. The prevailing wind is north westerly, which can be particularly significant on the Strait of Bonifacio at the north of the island.

Historic Cagliari crowns Sardinia’s southern edge, and a litter of pretty coves and tiny villages then await. With vineyards inland and towns steeped in history, it is a region rich in cultural and gastronomic offerings. Yachts up to 55 metres LOA can drop anchor at Marina di Cagliari. 

To the north, the superyacht haven of Porto Cervo is the central hub for the yachting elite that descend on Sardinia’s glittering Costa Smeralda each summer. Home to some of Europe’s most expensive residences and exclusive resorts, including the iconic Cala di Volpe hotel, Porto Cervo pulsates during the summer season and its bars and restaurants promise a great night ashore. 

The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda is based in Porto Cervo and organises a packed yacht racing season throughout the summer. Highlights of the Mediterranean cruising calendar in Sardinia include the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta, the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, the Maxi Rolex Cup and Rolex Swan Cup – all lively events for sailing enthusiasts in Porto Cervo to get involved with. Yachts up to 120 metres can berth at the IGY marina in Port Cervo.

South of Porto Cervo, the resort village of Porto Rotondo’s turquoise waters, pristine beaches and charming piazzas will prove irresistible, and the port here has 25 berths for megayachts. Cruise 20 nautical miles and dock at Marina di Olbia (for yachts up to 80 metres) to discover the city’s café-lined squares. Further south explore the caves near Cala Luna, where the peaks of Gennargentu National Park provide a dramatic backdrop and the snorkelling is excellent. Nearby Cala Goloritzé is another natural wonder.

From the northern coast of the main island cruise about 10 nautical miles offshore toward the spectacular archipelago of La Maddalena. While away long, languid sunny days around Caprera, Spargi, Santo Stefano, Santa Maria, Budelli and Razzoli, and discover some of Sardinia’s best beaches and the island’s breathtaking lagoons. On Isola Maddalena, Cala Gavetta marina can host yachts up to 60 metres LOA, as can the marina of the Hotel Excelsior. On Capera, Porto Palma can accommodate yachts up to 40 metres.

Some luxury yacht charters will combine the magic of Sardinia with French-held Corsica – the islands lie in a north to south run, with Corsica sitting off Sardinia’s northerly tip.

On Corsica , visit the historic capital of Porto-Vecchio, discover the UNESCO wonders of the Lavezzi islands and marvel at the houses perched atop the windswept bluffs in Bonifacio before cruising south to the majestic La Maddelena archipelago.

The Portuguese captain could not inspire his side to repeat their continental heroics of five years ago, losing out 1-0 to Belgium in the round-of-16.

Having also suffered a tough campaign with Juventus , missing out on the Serie A title and having a disappointing Champions League campaign, the 36-year-old has been enjoying some down time.

And Ronaldo has been doing this on his incredible mega match believed to be worth £5.5m, having bought it last year.

Called an Azimut Grande, it is 88 feet from bow to stern - only 12 shot of the minimum requirement by FIFA for the length of a football pitch.

Built in the Versilia shipyards of Azimut-Benett, it boasts five luxury cabins and six stunningly decorated bathrooms.

The Portuguese champion must have been so impressed by the beauty of this yacht model probably while spending onboard it one of his vacation periods.

In fact, it was not the first time he had boarded a Benetti-Azimut Grande. Just a few weeks earlier, for example, he had posted some photos on Instagram portraying him, always with his family, aboard a 35-meter from the same brand, this time chartered in the Italian Versilia coastline.

A long list of charter yacht vacation

Before then, there were certainly many occasions in which Cristiano Ronaldo allowed himself the luxury of a charter yacht.

During summer 2019, for example, the Juventus forward spent his family vacation off the coast of Monte Carlo aboard the wonderful yacht Africa I.

A 47-meter long yacht, the Africa I was built by Benetti in 2010 and underwent a complete restyling in 2018.

Made of aluminum, it is equipped with every comfort: air conditioning, gym, Jacuzzi, Wi-Fi connection.

Onboard, it can accommodate up to 12 guests divided into six bedrooms: a master suite, four bedrooms with double beds, and a bedroom with single beds.

The eternal challenge with Messi:

The rivalry with his colleague and champion Lionel Messi has always been heated both on and off the pitch, with the duo always put in competition on personal trophies and titles won, number of social media followers, and even in terms of salary.

The choice of the yacht on which they spend their holidays is certainly no exception.

An example? In 2016 they found themselves a short distance away in the sea between Ibiza and Formentera on board their respective charter yachts:

This time Cristiano Ronaldo had chosen a real jewel, the Ascari yacht, with over 36 meters in length and over 7 meters wide.

Built-in 2003 by Palmer Johnson Yacht and refitted in 2015, it can reach a maximum speed of thirty knots and a cruising speed of 22. Space onboard is not lacking and in fact, the Ascari can accommodate up to 10 guests in 4 cabins and 5 crew members.

At the same time, Lionel Messi was aboard the Seven C, a 28 meters long and just under five meters wide yacht, built-in 2003 and refitted in 2011.

The Seven C can reach a maximum speed of 22 knots and can accommodate up to ten people, as well as three crew members.

In 2018, the two found themselves even “sharing” the same charter yacht, a few weeks apart from each other, while spending their summer holidays in the Balearic archipelago.

Famous for its clear emerald-coloured waters, the Gulf of Marinella is the perfect backdrop for boarding luxury yacht Chronos. The Italian island of Sardinia boasts nearly 2000km of coastline, sandy beaches and a rugged, mountainous interior dotted with thousands of “nuraghi” – mysterious Bronze Age stone ruins dating back to 1500 BC.

The northeast of the island is home to Costa Smeralda, known for its fine-sand beaches and crystal-clear turquoise water. Spend some time here on anchor or in one of the quaint Italian harbour towns as you explore ancient burial sites ashore or enjoy beachside relaxation.

Further up the coast sits the natural park of the La Maddalena archipelago, where the sea shines in the most beautiful shades of blue. Swim the warm waters, and wander the ancient cobbled streets whilst soaking up that glorious Mediterranean culture and sunshine.

Your final port of call will be the impressive harbour of Bonifacio on the South coast of Corsica. Greeting you with its dramatic granite cliff line, this French harbour town is a lively marina oozing in history. Its medieval citadel sits proudly overlooking the sea with 13th-century architecture and history tucked around every corner with the L’Escalier du Roi d’Aragon which are 187 ancient steps carved into the cliff face.

Our luxury sailing yacht Chronos was built and registered in Bodrum, Turkey but spends her days sailing the Mediterranean and Caribbean. Chronos was purpose-built as a charter vessel in 2013, with a two-masted, 54m staysail ketch rig.

Designed by Klaus Röder who based his design on a classic yacht whilst keeping up with the modern-day ketch; Chronos has been built for performance sailing and guest comfort.

Built with luxury in mind, the outline on deck is of teak and mahogany with plenty of space to sun-bath, read a book and enjoy the views. All the sails are electronically retractable, so no need to learn the ropes here. (The crew are, however, more than happy for guests to get involved with the operating and sailing of Chronos as much as they would like!)

An admiralty ladder provides the perfect place to jump off into the warm Caribbean waters, have a swim and climb back aboard with ease. Chronos also offers her guests the options of using her water skiing, wake-board, tube riding, kneeboard, banana boat, kayak and snorkelling & dive equipment and even a sail dinghy (QubaRS)

The deckhouse offers its very own small bar whilst below decks offers still more space to relax with a saloon with a plasma TV! Her private cabins, offering both double and single beds, all have air-conditioning and en-suite bathrooms.

The professional crew consists of the Skipper, first mate, mechanic, bosun, cook and 4 stewards, so you will most certainly be looked after during your time aboard Chronos .

Life on board 

Our sailing holidays on board Chronos are ones of luxury, style and comfort while exploring sunshine destinations and unforgettable locations. A purpose-built charter vessel, Chronos was designed with the elegant sailing lines of a traditional classic boat but has been paired with all the comforts and luxuries of a modern yacht. 

Authentic Sailing Fun

Sailing with Chronos  is certainly one of comfort and relaxation. Think of a boutique, intimate classic sailing experience where nothing is too much trouble. Her dedicated and professional crew are highly trained and well-versed in a smooth sailing operation. 

She has an impressive sail area and her rig is electronically operated with retractable sails so there is no need to “learn the ropes” here! That being said, there are still traditional pin and tails if guests want to have a taste of authentic sailing. Her crew are always on hand and happy to discuss the sailing operations with guests. 

Although there is less focus on the “hands-on” sailing of Chronos , the Captain and crew offer interesting sailing talks and information briefs for guests during the voyage. Learn about the history of the boat, its sailing terms and even take a tour of the engine room if you fancy! Understanding these elegant classic vessels and feeling their power with the wind is truly an unforgettable experience.

Sleeping and Relaxation

Every space on Chronos is considered with the guests at the forefront of all design. From the spacious saloon, and private ensuite cabins clad in tropical wood to the sweeping open decks with plenty of sun lounging spaces – the boat is certainly oozing 5* luxury.

The generously proportioned cabins all have plenty of luggage storage, full-size domestic showers and air conditioning units. Versatile beds mean that cabins can be made from a comfy double to a sharing twin and even a three-bed family cabin as needed. All bedding, towels and a robe per person are included in the ticket price. Each cabin is named by the winds of the sea and this matches the allocated swim towel set for guests, so if you leave it drying on deck, a member of the crew will deliver it back to your cabin when dry. 

Daily cabin service is also part of the offering. A member of the crew will make your bed and freshen up your bathroom every day and if you want a towel change or full cabin clean, just leave the relevant sign on the cabin door! 

Eating and Entertainment

Although the day is punctuated by meal times, you certainly don’t feel like you’re running on a schedule. The relaxed nature of both the boat and the crew gives a perfect balance. 

Depending on the voyage location, the daily routine can change and is flexible depending on the wishes of the group. Perhaps sit back and relax as the crew set the sails to another remote anchorage to enjoy a freshly cooked lunch and the onboard water toys! Or spend the morning swimming in a secluded bay or exploring an ancient port city before setting the sails to a new location. 

Start the day with a rich buffet-style breakfast, on to a light 2-course lunch at noon, coffee, tea and cake in the afternoon. Finish the day with a freshly cooked 3-course dinner aboard and on the final night of the voyage, enjoy an authentic Captain’s dinner. For every voyage on Chronos , guests enjoy a meal ashore at their own expense to immerse themselves in the local culture and cuisine. Guests tend to go off in their groups but sometimes the crew can join in if guests are unsure of the best spots!

Depending on the mood of the group, the crew can arrange some light-hearted entertainment too – from local musicians over dinner to a friendly on-board music quiz (which is always amusing with international guests!) or even a wine-tasting session (at an extra cost).

For those water lovers with a sense of adventure, Chronos has a multitude of water-sport activities and equipment available for guests. Stand-up paddle boards and adult-size snorkelling equipment are free for guests to use. Water-skiing, wakeboarding, banana boat and tube riding are all chargeable once on board.

Chronos offers this at a moderate price and suggests an average of 10% of the voyage price to serve as a guide for consumption. The onboard currency is EUROS and you can open an on-board account which can be paid at the end of your voyage.

We recommend a travelling light principal with lots of lightweight, easy-drying layers. Below is a list of recommended items, these are not mandatory and those who have sailed before may have their preferences! We recommend you bring a foldable bag or suitcase since hard cases are difficult to store in the cabins.

• Soft-soled trainers (We kindly ask you to only wear anti-skid sport/boat shoes on board.)

Yes, there are 2pin EU sockets throughout the boat so please bring an adaptor if needed.

Chronos is often at anchor so you'll need to be comfortable climbing in and out of the tender dinghy. There is an admiralty ladder and there will always be a crew member to steady.

No, absolutely not!

Yes, there are two sea kayaks, RS Quba dinghy, snorkelling gear, water skis, wakeboard, kneeboard and banana boat. For activities that require pulling with a dinghy we charge €1 per minute of use.

Everyone reacts differently but we recommend if you are at all worried to take some medication 24 hours before departure.

Cala Di Luna is at the heart of Sardinia’s east coast, tucked away in the Gulf of Orosei and characterised by its deep caves carved in the limestone cliffs which protect it from the winds. We recommend you make this your prime anchorage. 

The beach is only accessible by sea or a 4 km hike so it remains quiet despite its beauty and soft golden sands. Enjoy an al fresco lunch on board, absorbing the spectacular setting before spending the afternoon snorkelling in the crystal clear waters.

Your third day in Sardinia will be spent in the island’s capital, Cagliari, where you can spend a day strolling around the colourful and historic city districts.

We recommend you begin the day with a coffee in the Stampede District’s lively and bright Piazza Yenne, then follow the winding streets of Catello to see the landmark Bastione di Saint Remy.

After your cultural lessons, head down to the peaceful Villanova District where you can do a spot of shopping. Be sure to reserve a table at Niu restaurant for a decadent and elegant feast. Finish the afternoon back in the marina and take a stroll down the promenade that overlooks the Mediterranean .

As you cruise along southwest coast you’ll be treated to a treasure trove of Sardinia’s natural beauty, historical remnants, and beautiful beaches.

La Maddalena

Sailing Season in Sardinia

Sardinia experiences a Mediterranean climate of long, hot summers followed by mild winters. The most desirable time to sail there is between April and October . The sea is warm enough for swimming for most of this time.

Things to Keep in Mind

The Sardinian coast boast many ports and anchorages as well as modern and comfortable marinas. 

The Mistral winds from the west and the hot Sirocco that comes from the south/southeast can create sport sailing conditions. The Strait of Bonifacio can frequently produce gale force winds and should be approached with due caution. 

Marina fees for a 12 meter yacht range from 20€ to 200€ depending on area and day of the week you wish to stay. There are a large number of bays to anchor and less expensive mooring buoys options are plentiful. 

The Italian summer holiday of Ferragosto takes place from the last week of July through the first 3 weeks of August during which tourist volumes on the island will increase significantly

In the rare instance that your boat’s captain does not have a passport issued by their country of citizenship, they will need to procure a card issued by the Italian authorities. 

Current Sailing Conditions

General Information

Sardinia’s strong, persistent winds during summer months and small tidal range make it a favoured sailing destination.

The island is the second largest island in the Mediterranean after Sicily, and enjoys a fabled “6 month long” summer, white sand beaches, and crystal clear water. There are several hidden bays only accessible by boat to be explored. 

Accommodation can be hard to come by during Ferragosto. It's best to schedule your holiday outside of those dates for convenience. 

Sardinia is also a diving hotspot with its rocky shores being home to numerous tunnels and caves. There are also several wrecks to explore nearby.

While the east coast is popular for sailing as the sea state is smaller and more sheltered by mountains, the west coast of the islands possesses beautiful destinations as well such as Costa Paradiso and its lovely red rock coves. 

While Sardinia is quite a popular destination for sport fishing, be advised that spearfishing with diving equipment is banned.
