Noticed this article on Seawind over at Sail-world. Looks like the Australian arm of the company is going into administration but business as usual for the Corsair operation in Vietnam which builds the Corsair trimarans and the Seawind 1000xl and 1160 cruising catamarans. http://www.sail-world.com/Australia/Australias-Seawind-Catamarans-in-voluntary-administration/101190

What does the Australian arm mean, you mean the main factory at Belambi south of Sydney. And what does 'voluntary administration' mean,--bankurpt? It says Seawind has been taken over by a firm of accountants. The Director is an accountant.  

What is a voluntary administration? Voluntary administration is an insolvency procedure where the directors of a financially troubled company or a secured creditor with a charge over most of the company’s assets appoint an external administrator called a ‘voluntary administrator’. The role of the voluntary administrator is to investigate the company’s affairs, to report to creditors and to recommend to creditors whether the company should enter into a deed of company arrangement, go into liquidation or be returned to the directors. A voluntary administrator is usually appointed by a company’s directors, after they decide that the company is insolvent or likely to become insolvent. Less commonly, a voluntary administrator may be appointed by a liquidator, provisional liquidator, or a secured creditor.

Still sad because a lot of people will be looking for jobs soon. In my 35 years of business I have never seen one come right. Usually by the time the Directors pull this move they have lined their pockets and covered their tracks. It is always the staff and the creditors that pull the short stick. Anyway still sad to see another boat yard go down.  

The workers of Seawind will be delighted. I was there at the factory 3 months fitting engines to my boat before launch. They mostly had Fridays off to go surfing. Many days I could not get help as they did not have anyone working. Mondays were similar. It was an ongoing difficulty. Its an Australian thing. W_O_R_K a four letter word.

All Seawinds are engineered to offshore standards utilizing innovative technologies and materials to create a strong, safe, and reliable boat. The narrower hull designs cut through the water efficiently, getting you to your destination faster and the lines and controls are led back to the cockpit optimizing these boats for solo or short-handed operation. The only twin helm design in the world that offers unrivaled protection from the harsh sun, rain, and wind by being located behind a major bulkhead. Add to this the panoramic windows that give you complete visibility and the flexibility to steer from either side of the boat when sailing so you can properly trim your sails or dock with an optimal twin engine control.

A very generous cockpit allows for a multitude of options. On the Seawind 1160 and 1190 models, add some foldaway deck chairs and a table, use the cockpit as a work area, set up equipment, or clean a freshly caught fish for dinner. The 1260, 1370, and 1600 models offer traditional lounge and seating spaces in the cockpit with built in tables for comfort while making way or entertaining on the dock or hook. The Seawind 1600 offers a sliding door system with opening windows, and all other models offer the innovative tri-fold door system to seamlessly tie the inside and outside living spaces together. The extra-large opening windows in the saloon, hatches and cabins on all of the Seawind models create outstanding ventilation and natural lighting.

The open galley on the Seawind 1160, 1190 and 1260 down in the starboard hull is similar to a Butler’s Pantry. It is completely separate from the living area and no space is wasted; creating a larger galley with storage and prep space. This results in a lounge/living area equal to that of a 50-footer. The Seawind 1370 and 1600 have a galley on the main level tied in seamlessly with the saloon living area. Regardless of style, these galleys make cooking a delight!

An innovative concept

Each time it is presented at a boat show, or arrives in an anchorage, the Seawind 1160 attracts the attention of cruising boat enthusiasts, without fail. Why? Quite simply because it does not look like any other catamaran. Built in Australia by the company of the same name, the Seawind 1160 is the worthy descendant of the 24 and especially the famous 1000, which gave the builder its reputation and made it the undisputed leader of Australian construction. Created in 1982, by Richard Ward, the builder is today offering a coherent range, from the 10m to the 12.5m, via the 1160 we are interested in here. The Seawind 1160 is classically built on female moulds for the hulls and decks, with exterior finishing in gelcoat and non-slip integrated in the decks. Countless hours have been invested in Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) studies in order to discover the best balance of speed, and comfort under sail enabling Seawind to favor robust systems such as mini keels and spade rudders whilst not sacrificing on cruising performance.

DUAL YANMAR ENGINE CONTROLS - ELECTRICAL

A second engine control mounted at the stbd helm makes for easy maneuvering and makes the boat manageable from either helm. Combined with the upgrade to electronic actuators this makes for effortless control and simple switching between helms.

BATTERY LITHIUM UPGRADE (800AH)

Change from the traditional AGM battery system to a high capacity Lithium system from Mastervolt. Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
