Lazy day at sea.

Relax, unwind, find a comfortable place to stretch out, and as you make your way out of Kalkan harbour, already, a new perspective of Kalkan's mountainous backdrop opens up before you. The sense of adventure is palpable, and because we only offer private charters for our guests, there is plenty of space to find the perfect spot to eat, drink and sunbathe, as the beaches, islands and coastline included in your 'Lazy Day at Sea' itinerary come into view. The captain finds a sheltered bay, drops anchor, and the crew start to prepare the fresh, local ingredients on board. A meal typically comprises meat or fish, salads, vegetables, breads, and a dessert. There is a bar service available throughout the day offering wine, beer, water and soft drinks. Itineraries are carefully planned to provide a good balance of relaxation and swimming/snorkelling, with the chance to explore as much of the stunning Turquoise coastline as possible. The captain will, where practical, accommodate your itinerary preference, however, this cannot be guaranteed. Your private charter 'Lazy Day at Sea' starts at around 10:00 and returns to the harbour at approximately 17:00 in the afternoon. 

Alternatively how about spending the evening aboard with our  'Moonlight Cruise' private charter, the evening starts at around 19:00 and returns to the harbour at approximately 22:45 at night. Great boat saw so many pretty places the food was excellent and plentiful. However, I could feel the captains reluctance to follow the rout given and his comments were sometimes unkind about us asking to use the tender to go ashore, he said it’s not a taxi and I asked for help to put the side safes up as I couldn’t do it alone he said “ I do it” his attitude wasn’t the best sadly

Blue Lagoons

This is a very relaxed Sail through the Turkish Riviera. There were 3 Topdeck boats run by Alaturka Sailing. There are no guides on board the boats, but we were lucky as our crew spoke English. The 3 boats were split up via age groups. This was good as most of the people on your boat had similar expectations and want to party. There are opportunities for the boats to mix only a couple of times - on a night out in the town of Kas and at Smugglers Cove. Other than that you aren't allowed to go on other boats. Each day on the boat is quite similar. Wake up, swim, breakfast, swim, lunch, swim, afternoon tea, swim, dinner, swim, happy hour and drinks to follow. It is a very relaxing trip, people read and listen to music during the day. All food is provided; it was plentiful and amazing. Each breakfast is a standard turkish breakfast, lunch is always vegetarian and dinner is either fish/chicken/beef. I would recommend this trip to anyone. Everyone on our boat had a great time, we all got along well and no one wanted to leave the boat.

We are two brothers Osman and Adem Yildiz (Star) we have two boats ,Kalkan Yildiz-2 and Kalkan Yildiz-3.Both boats are around the same size 15m long,4:50m wide.Yildiz -2 with 2 cabins and Yildiz -3 with 3 cabins,automatic electric flushing hygienic toilets,fully equipped kitchens where our wives prepare wonderful freshly cooked food for lunch.We work together with our wives Zeynep with Osman and Ilkay with Adem. YILDIZ-2 capacity is just 12 persons for public trips and private. YILDIZ-3 capacity is 22 persons but we take maximum 16 persons for public trips with comfort the most important not like a school bus that you will find with some boat trips! YILDIZ-3 has 18 sunbeds on the deck. Both boats have washroom and shower facilities,Music players,sitting area and sundeck which can be open or shaded to suit your wishes.Please note you are most welcome to bring along your own Music box. Both boats have comfortable step type ladders for entering and leaving the water. • We depart from Kas or Kalkan marina at 09:00 or 09:30 in the morning. As you sip your tea and coffee which is catered to you as our gift, our boat sails to our first stop: Maradi Isle. You can swim in the waters of this small island using the goggles and flippers supplied from our boat, or shoot photos by our underwater camera during your Kalkan boat trip .
• After our 30-minute swimming break, we anchor at Saribelen Isle to take the next swimming session and savour our lunch. While we cook your lunch using fresh ingredients, you can enjoy your time with our eqiupment like paddle board, underwater scooter available on the boat for your use or simply prefer sunbathing on the deck.
• Following our fresh and tasty lunch, we sail to Kaputas Beach and anchor our boat there. After a 30-minute swimming break on the beach, we head to Besmi Isle, a prominent diving center in Turkey. Later on, we cruise to Firnaz cove. Enjoying a swimming session at this cove, we move to Kas marina.

A gulet is a classic wooden, motorized, and sailing boat that is perfect for long sea voyages and close-to-land cruises.

Traditional Turkish gulets are made-to-order boats that skilled artisans construct from wood. Because they provide a very comfortable cruising experience, gulets, often referred to as motor sailboats, are perfect for coastal excursions and lengthy sea cruises.

They do not construct them on particularly lengthy decks, often between 15 and 25 meters, like other kinds. The same standards apply to their cabins. If you like sailing, this is the best option.

Accommodation on Gulets

This is one of our favourite itineraries for families with teenagers and older children. Spend 4 days on a private chartered traditional gulet, sailing from cove to cove and dropping anchor in a different spot each night. Then 3 nights back on land, in a beautiful beachfront boutique hotel in the sophisticated harbour town of Kalkan.  Moments from the array of shops, restaurants and beach clubs.

This itinerary is based on a small gulet with just 2 guest cabins, sleeping 4. As with all our itineraries, this is just a suggestion. Speak to one of our Turkey Specialists to tailor this trip for you.  We can extend the sailing time or change the route, choose an alternative gulet for larger families or groups, and opt for a different hotel in Kalkan.

Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Set sail from Göcek

Welcome to Turkey! You begin from the small harbour town of Göcek, around 20 minutes transfer from Dalaman International Airport.  After exploring the town, sail away on your private gulet and find a peaceful spot to swim before dinner and dropping anchor for the night. 

Cruising in a gulet allows you to escape the tourists, and you get such personal service with your dedicated crew. You have a chef looking after you, and a professional sailing team – but pitch in if you like! You’ll be sailing from spot to spot each day, with plenty of time to stop a few times to swim and with the option to head on land each day to explore historical sites and natural protection areas.

Day 2 - St Nicholas Island

Head to Olu Deniz lagoon for the earlier part of your day before heading to St. Nicholas Island for the evening. This small island is home to Byzantine ruins dating back to 4 th century A.D. Explore and enjoy a sunset drink as you enjoy the striking view.

Day 3 - Dalyan Delta

Visit the exceptional Dalyan Delta and the ancient site of Kaunos today. You’ll see crumbling tombs, an ancient amphitheatre, and you might just spot loggerhead turtles.

Day 4 - Fethiye

Cruise into the Gulf of Fethiye today, and explore the bays at your own pace.Head on land and stroll along the seaside boulevard.

Day 5 - Back on dry land...

There’s time for one final swim before heading back to Göcek, and waving goodbye to your gulet and your new friends, the crew. 

It’s around an hour by taxi to transfer to Kalkan, your home for the next 3 nights. Settle into your beachfront hotel, enjoy a swim in the pool and dinner at the hotel or in Kalkan.

Day 6 - Explore Kalkan

Kalkan is best known for its cobbled Old Town, which retains all it’s original charm. There are lots of restaurants, a pebble beach and a choice of beach clubs clustered around the bay.  

You could also visit Saklikent Gorge and the sunken city of Kekova, or the nearby ancient ruins of Patara, Xanthos and Tlos. 

Day 7 - Last Day

Enjoy a leisurely last day before your flight home tomorrow.

Why not hire out your own fishing boat with your own Guide/Fisherman to teach you the ropes and guide you through a great Fishing Experience in the Seas of Kalkan (06.30-09.30am @ 500 lira per boat), fishing and seeing all kinds of fish like: bivalves/molluscs including mussels, oysters, octopus, cuttlefish and squid. Then we have cnidarians, flower like in appearance, with tentacles to trap their food – these include anemones, jellyfish and corals.

We also find common crustaceans including crabs, lobsters, prawns and shrimps, together with many types of sea urchins, sea cucumbers and although fewer in number these days, sponges.

Fish are plentiful – blennies, cardinal fish, conger eels, damsel fish, garfish, groupers, lizard fish, moray eels, parrot fish, picarel, sea bream, skates and rays, red mullet, flying fish and scorpion fish. Oil rich fish include barracuda and tuna. Sharks are very rare – they prefer deeper waters, but the Mediterranean does have them.

When deciding on your itinerary, bear in mind the following points:

• The routes here are created with the knowledge and experience of our captains and are based on the preferences of thousands of guests that have taken blue cruises in Turkey and Croatia.  These are recommended itineraries, if you’d like to decide your own route or make changes to the existing routes, please contact us .
• Gulet cruises run from Saturday to Saturday during high season (July, August). In low season it might be possible to arrange shorter trips or alternative start/end days.
• Routes are 7 nights and 8 days unless otherwise stated.
• Tours generally begin and end at the same port.  If you would like a one-way route, contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
• Boats generally only pick up passengers from the base marina and would only pick up passengers from a different harbour in rare circumstances. Ability to change the pick-up point depends on how busy the boat is and is at the discretion of Gulet Escapes.

• HIGHLIGHTS OF TURKEY SAILING TOURS

Located on the Mediterranean coast Kalkan gets 300 days of sunshine a year. Due to Its location just between Fethiye and Kaş, It is a great stop for gulet sailing turkey . The town hosts a large British Expat community and luxurious villas that fill the hillside town. Our Traditional Turkish Gulets dock in the Kalkan harbor for an hour or two while our passengers explore the town and have some nice cocktails just before we continue cruising towards Kaş or Fethiye. In Ancient times Kalkan was a small Greek fishing village, later it became famous for its whitewashed houses on the hilltop overlooking the bay, the picturesque marina still has the charm of the old village.

Kalkan has an abundance of Hotels and countless top-quality restaurants, serving delicious Mediterranean dishes as well as international cuisine. Bars generally open in the evening when the heat of the day has gone and pleasant weather hovers over the town. Kalkan has also a fantastic location for exploring neighboring towns and offers a variety of water sports.

Kaputas Beach is located only 7 kilometers from Kalkan, where a narrow valley runs below steep cliffs and thick forests join to meet the shore. A highway bridge crosses the gorge and below it lays an incredible cove and a White sandy beach, only accessible by over a hundred stairs. The beach is popular for its untouched beauty.  There are also bars and a small restaurant at Kaputaş beach selling food and refreshments during the day.

Choose your Gulet Cruise and Route

Gulet’s are authentic, yacht-like boats but with greater volume and much higher stability and they can usually be seen sailing around Mediterranean coastlines. They are classic and hand-built to traditional designs. Our private sailing holidays are the perfect way to see what the beautiful sites of Turkey, Greece Montenegro and Croatia have to offer. You can easily stop to view any cities or coastlines you cross. You may want to drop anchor and sunbathe or cool down by sailing in the breeze or having a dip in the crystal clear ocean.

Our own gulet Salamander in Turkey operates from Bodrum and sails from Turkey to Greece. This is our most traditional styled gulet and was built in 2005. When Salamander is full we use the beautiful Ya Selam. She is very similar in both size and style and the perfect option if Salamander is fully booked. On top of these we also have a selection of other options and locations including one in Croatia for the larger parties (up to 18) as well.

Beautiful coastlines and cities

The coastlines of Turkey, Greece, Montenegro and Croatia are full of ancient cities, historic sites and secluded coves. One of the wonderful things about a gulet boat holiday is the freedom you have with being able to explore remote beaches and islands. We have a number of itineraries and fixed routes however our crew are flexible as long as the weather allows it. If you come across a location you particularly love, you can stay for longer. Also, you can choose whether to eat onboard or explore coastline cities and towns and visit local restaurants.
