Boat Review: Jefferson 4100 Marlago

Jefferson Yachts is probably not the first name to pop into your head when considering a sport-fishing boat – but it may be soon. Most are familiar with Jefferson’s reputation for building world-class motor yachts and might not even be aware that it does make several smaller open fishermen. With the introduction of its new 4100 Marlago series, however, Jefferson married the style and attention to detail found in its motor yachts with the functionality and fishability of its “Sport” series. And from the looks of it, the marriage should be a success.

At 44 feet, 2 inches with a beam of 15 feet, this boat offers all the room even the most hectic fishing days require. Jefferson finished it with a hull design that provides a ride worthy of even the most luxurious yachts. The hull deck, cabin and bridge all feature hand-laid fiberglass laid up with a modified vinylester resin and protected with high-gloss ISO gelcoat. The bulkheads are all manufactured from Nida-Core to save weight and add strength.

Inside, the cabin features every appointment necessary for a comfortable long weekend aboard. The cabin sleeps up to five, thanks to convertible berths and a double-sized stateroom. All interior surfaces are finished with carpeting and wood veneers. The single head includes a separate stand-up shower, and both the head and galley feature Corian countertops and sinks.

Abovedecks, the design elegance carries through the cockpit. The fully lit bridge deck and self-bailing cockpit are covered in top-quality nonskid to ensure secure footing under any condition. The deck of the cockpit holds two large recessed, self-bailing, insulated fish boxes that can be refrigerated. Molded four-compartment storage and tackle centers separate the bridge deck from the cockpit without obstructing views and also house a baitwell, a bait prep station and an insulated icebox. Padded coaming, a tuna door, hot and cold shower, and fresh and raw water washdowns complete the cockpit package.

All this sits atop your choice of several engine packages ranging from twin 420-hp 3126 Cats up to twin 660-hp 3196 Cats, depending on whether you prefer speed or fuel efficiency. Just to keep things comfortable, an 8-kw Westerbeke generator comes standard, and it all rests in an epoxy-finished engine room. Even at first glance, it’s obvious that Jefferson Yachts has put a lot of effort and creativity into the design and layout of its new 4100 Sport Series – just as it does its motor yachts. That alone qualifies this as a boat to be seen and fished.

Jefferson 42 Sundeck

We are considering purchasing a 1987 Jefferson 42 Sundeck and would like to hear any comments on this boat, positive and negative.

Jefferson 42 - beware sunflower, I hope I'm not too late getting back to you. My dad had a Jefferson 42 of the same vintage with a laundry list of problems you would not believe. For Starters: -Improperly bedded fittings above and below waterline. -Rotten Balsa core in hull sides, swim platform, sun deck, deck. -Mild steel valves seized with rust. -Failed welds in fuel tank. Proceed with caution and get a surveyor that you trust.

Clark UR correct,but I chose not to give much advice re. surveyors,as he is the usual 1 or 2 poster looking for free help (on other forums also) without giving any in return,nor bothering to reply back.

Firefighters respond to an early-morning shed fire in Fairhaven

by NBC 10 NEWS

(WJAR) — The Fairhaven Fire Department responded to an early-morning shed fire on Thursday.

Firefighters responded around 12:53 a.m. to a home on Jefferson Street.

Responding crews reported the shed had visible flames and had damaged a nearby boat and a vehicle.

The fire was put under control in about 20 minutes, the department says.

The department estimated the damage would be in the thousands.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
