Every day we offer two-hour public or private charters that might have you cruising past lighthouses, historic forts, and seals swimming in the harbor of Casco Bay. At Sail Portland Maine we offer intimate, crowd-free, professionally-captained and crewed excursions aboard our vessels, the Eleanor Hawkes or the Calista Ann.

Our private cruises are perfect for a group of up to 6 guests on the Eleanor Hawkes and up to 12 passengers on the Calista Ann . For even more space, book the Calista Ann – she is the newest addition to the company, keeping with the style and intimacy that our brand represents. She is a classic Downeast Picnic boat and is a comfortable cocktail cruiser. 

Private charters could be anything from a couple wanting to cruise to one of the nearby island restaurants for an anniversary dinner and then a cruise back under the stars, or a couple who wants to elope and get married by the captain with a few friends to witness – your imagination is the limit! We can recommend catering as well.

Designed and built to look and feel like the sailing vessels of days gone by, our 37' ketch Nautilus perfectly combines traditional form and modern function.

With a large cockpit and wide cabin tops, you'll find plenty of comfortable seating options for all. The spacious cabin offers ample space for lounging, eating, or a brief respite from the elements. The galley has all the amenities of home, including an ice box and stove, and there is also a large head with push button facilities-- everything you need to create your ideal Portland excursion. Join us! We're certain you'll be glad you did.

Relax and unwind as we silence the motor and let the wind take us sailing past lighthouses, between the islands, past historic forts, and even alongside playful porpoise and seals. With Captain Sam and first mate Crow as your seasoned guides, sit back and enjoy the view while you learn about our treasured Maine coast.

• What is the maximum passenger capacity? Nautilus's passenger capacity is 6 people maximum. This is determined by the U.S. Coast Guard so it is not flexible.
• Do infants count towards passenger capacity? Yes. The passenger limit is based on the number of lives aboard, rather than by seating room.
• Do you take same-day bookings? YES we do! Our booking software with FareHarbor allows for same-day bookings. If a sail during a time slot you are interested in appears to be greyed out, you can give us a call to see if there are any seats remaining. One important thing to note: if the crew are not currently on the boat, it will take us roughly one hour to arrive at the boat and complete an all-systems safety check, so please call as far in advance as possible.
• Is alcohol allowed on board? Yes! Please bring your favorite beverage (BYOB). For maximum Maine immersion, pick up some locally made favorites from Portland’s incredible craft brewery scene, like Bissel Brothers, Rising Tide, Belleflower, and Liquid Riot (or any from almost two dozen other local breweries - you can’t go wrong). For those who don’t like beer, seek out Maine Craft Distilling’s Blueshine Lemonade or Après’ Pine Rickey hard seltzer for a uniquely Maine flavor!
• Will we tip (heel) over? As a sailboat, the Nautilus is designed to lean to one side or the other with the pressure of the wind in her sails, with the extent of that heeling depending on the strength of the wind. If you’d like a more spirited sail, we recommend checking the forecast for winds of 13 knots (roughly 15 miles per hour) or higher. Morning and Sunset Sails tend to be the calmest, while Afternoon Sails are generally more lively. In Portland we usually receive the strongest winds in May, June, September, and October, while July and August are the calmest months.
• Is there a bathroom on board? Yes! We have a marine toilet, also called a head. The marina also has facilities for all guests in the form of 3 single-stall restrooms.
• Are there any amenities or utensils on board? We can provide bottled water, napkins, paper plates, utensils, and cups.
• Is smoking allowed on board? No, we don’t allow smoking while on the vessel.
• Is cannabis/marijuana allowed on board? Despite Maine’s decriminalization of recreational cannabis, we’re afraid we cannot allow any federally banned drug on board the vessel at this time. Our business, like all other U.S.-based commercial marine activity, is regulated by the US Coast Guard and as such must obey Federal law. If you do enjoy some of Portland’s many dispensaries, we ask you not to indulge while you’re out sailing with us.
• What is your general cancellation policy? Please cancel one week in advance of your sail to receive a full refund. Cancellations made with under one week’s notice will not receive a refund unless they are due solely to sudden illness (see covid-19 policy below).
• What happens if it rains? In the event of poor weather or unsafe conditions determined by the Captain at the time of the sail, a full refund will be issued.
• Do you have a covid-19 / illness refund policy? If you become sick with covid-19, the flu, or any other contagious illness and need to cancel, you will receive a full refund. We appreciate your help in not spreading any illnesses to the crew!

Key West Excursions

We provide private charters on a 44-foot sailing catamaran.  

Half day (3 hours), full day (6 hours) and anything and everything in between.

Activities can include any of the following, catered specifically your desires:

Snorkeling the West Sambo reef

Dolphin and sea turtle watching

Sailing along the beautiful Key West coastline, Sunset key, and Mallory square.

Swim stop to jump off the bows of the boat and float with pool noodles

Paddle boarding in the mangroves

Maine Excursions

Sail past an historic 200+ year old lighthouse, scan the horizon for minke and humpback whales as you hear the waves crashing against the rocky shoreline, watch bald eagles swoop down through the lush green marshland to grasp their fish lunch, feel like a kid again as you jump off the bows of the boat into the warm saco river and float around with pool noodles.

The S/V Liberty is a 44 foot sailing yacht.  Sailing on a catamaran provides a much more comfortable and luxurious experience than other boats.  It is more stable, easier to walk around, and provides much more seating and entertaining areas than a typical boat.  Enjoy a bird’s eye view of the coastline and local marine life atop the yacht’s flybridge, and bask in the sun lying on the front trampolines. The spacious interior dining area provides the perfect venue for enjoying appetizers and cocktails. Or, dine al fresco in our outdoor seating area, shaded from the sun under the coach roof.

In the fall of 2018, we decided to leave the cold new england winters and set sail in the caribbean, and finally found our winter home in key west. our combined experience encompasses over 30 years of sailing, culinary and hospitality expertise, and business management.  we love hosting guests on the boat and being able to bring them to beautiful, magical bays and anchorages to create wonderful memories. ashley has worked in the culinary and hospitality industries for over 15 years in leadership roles spanning operations, finance, and strategy.  she has a degree from the french culinary institute and mba from the university of virginia.  nils holds a 100 ton master captain's license, is a certified sailing instructor with the u.s. sailing association, and has been teaching sailing and captaining yachts for over 15 years. our experience and love for the ocean will provide you with wonderfully unique adventures, enabling you to explore and enjoy parts of key west and southern maine coastlines that you could never see otherwise.  come sailing with us.

The History of Fogg’s Water Taxi

At Fogg’s Water Taxi, we grew from the nautical passions of our sister company, Fogg’s Boatworks . In 2016, the Fogg’s Boatworks team started dipping our toes into the world of water taxis at the request of a water taxi company that couldn’t keep up with demand. After one summer helping out, we bought the water taxi company out and started Fogg’s Water Taxi with a small fleet of our own hand-crafted vessels.

We quickly evolved into one of the best water taxi services in the Portland area. Our fleet grew with the Casco Bay Cat in 2018, solidifying our presence in Casco Bay. In 2023, we welcomed the Joseph S. Kennedy, expanding and enhancing our Casco Bay charter and event charter services.

The boat is very nice and comfortable for 8 persons. You can bring food and drinks on board and they are well equip so you can spend a wonderful afternoon even if the weather is not perfect. It's very interesting to cruise the Saco area and the Saco River and the captain provides you with a lot of interesting information. The whole family really enjoined it and we highly recommend it. Captain Nils and first mate Todd made the adventure that much more special. Both were very welcoming are very knowledgeable about the area. If you desire they point out places of interest (and wildlife like sturgeon jumping out of the water), take pictures, and make you feel comfortable. The catamaran is beautiful and very clean! There are a lot of places to sit and relax. There is an inside kitchen with seating and a bathroom down a set of stairs (again very clean). At the back of the boat is a table suitable for a meal, snacks or if you want to get out of the wind for a bit. The front has additional seating and nets to lie on or you can choose to sit up with the captain for an eagle’s eye view! It was a great fall day for sailing and the 2 hours went by way too quick! We were 3 couples going out late afternoon for a sunset sail. I worked via email with Ashley on a few questions and to book. Answers were prompt and helpful. I let her know we had some flexibility a few days before and to let us know if there was a better day/time to go out based on conditions. She recommend going a day earlier due to calmer seas and we are so glad we did that. The day of our trip Nils was right there to greet us and get us acclimated to the boat. We had such a wonderful trip out on the ocean and up river. It could not have been more beautiful and fun. The boat was amazing, very large and comfortable. Nils and Ashley were so accommodating on our full day tour. We absolutely loved our time on their catamaran. Easy to book, easy to find, great communication. Immaculate boat. We went to the reef to snorkel but the water was a bit too rough for us to try. On our way out and back in, we saw several large sea turtles playing in the water. Absolutely breathtaking shades of blue waters. We stopped and anchored down near the shore of a near key and enjoyed a quick swim. Brought our own lunch aboard and enjoyed it in the shade down below. However, Bimini Charters (Ashley and Nils) made us realize charters are NOT all the same. Here were our highlights: - Arrived at the dock and received VIP parking in front of the boat. (We didn’t have to carry out food/drinks/stuff further than 5-10feet) - The boat was absolutely stunning and clean and felt as if it were brand new. - Family/Friend environment. They treated you like a long time friend of theirs. - Sunset was stunning! They, of course, positioned the boat in the direction of the sunset BUT did it in a way that made us feel like we were the only boat out there. - Snorkeling. They took us to a beautiful reef where we saw Lobsters, Parrot Fish, Tarpon, Nurse sharks, Barracuda. Also, along the way we even got to see dolphins and turtles!
