Dr. Schöchl wollte eigentlich mit Versicherungen nichts zu tun haben. Aber die schlechten Bedingungen zu Lasten der Kunden des Familienunternehmens Sunbeam Yachts ärgerten ihn sehr, weshalb er die YACHT-POOL Kasko- und Haftpflichtbedingungen schrieb, und damit zum   Initiator der Allgefahrendeckung wurde. Eine grundsätzliche und fundamentale Neuerung der Boots- und Yachtversicherungen. Sie waren den herkömmlichen Einzelgefahrendeckung in Bezug auf Kundenorientierung weit überlegen!

Da sich Versicherungsbedingungen nicht patentieren ließen, wurden sie über die Jahre von den Mitbewerbern nach und nach kopiert und sind heute Markt. Bei YACHT-POOL wurden die Versicherungsnehmer zu einem „POOL“ zusammengeschlossen – daher der Name  YACHT-POOL, der mit einer Stimme sprechen und ein Gegengewicht zu Versicherungen und Ihren Mannschaften von Juristen bilden sollte, denen der Einzelne immer unterlegen war.

Im Charter Bereich erkannte Dr. Schöchl als Erster das hohe persönliche Haftungsrisiko des Charter-Skippers, das er für unvertretbar hielt. Er formulierte und schrieb dazu die entsprechenden Skipper-Haftpflicht-Bedingungen, die damit zum Schutz der Charterskipper ins Leben gerufen wurden. Er gilt damit mit als Erfinder der Skipper-Haftpflichtversicherung .

Dabei blieb es aber nicht. Es wurden die weiteren Spezialversicherungen wie die Charter-Kautionsversicherung, Charter-Rücktrittsversicherung und eine Reihe weiterer Deckungskonzepte entwickelt. In Fachkreisen wurde YACHT-POOL somit zum  Pionier   der Charterversicherungen und wurde zum Trendsetter der Wassersportversicherungen.

Darüber hinaus entwickelte sich YACHT-POOL zu einer Art „Ombudsmann“ bei Fragen, die über Versicherungslösungen hinaus gingen. Dazu zählt das Qualitätssiegel „CHECKED & TRUSTED Financial Security“ , das Charterern eine bessere Orientierungshilfe bei der Wahl von wirtschaftlich stabilen Charteragenturen und Flottenbetreibern bietet und damit das Insolvenzrisiko minimiert.

Ebenso wichtig war die Entwicklung des „Charter-Fairtrag“ – ein Standardvertrag der AGB für Vercharterer, die den Charterskipper vor problematischen „freiwilligen Haftungs-vereinbarungen“ schützen sollten, bei denen keine Versicherung greift.

Die internationalen Verbände EBI (European Boating Industry) in Brüssel und ICOMIA (International Council of Marine Industry Associations) in London nahmen diesen Vertrag als Vorlage für die internationalen und offiziellen, allgemeinen Charter-Standardbedingungen.

Bericht aus dem Fachmagazin Boote 1.2024 – Die klaren Bedingungen des Charter-Fairtrags von YACHT-POOL überzeugen die Lobby der Freizeitschifffahrt! Unklare Bedingungen und giftige Klauseln in Charterverträgen könnten bald der Vergangenheit angehören, zumindest zur Ausnahme werden. Denn die europäischen und globalen Verbände der Freizeitbootindustrie, EBI (European Boating Industry) in Brüssel und ICOMIA (International Council of Marine Industry Associations) in London, erkannten die Bedeutung dieses Themas für den nautischen Tourismus, einen konfliktfreien Ablauf des Chartergeschäfts und nicht zuletzt für den Ruf der gesamten Branche.

In mehreren Meetings mit den Präsidenten der nationalen Verbände der Vercharterer und Charter-Agenturen suchte man nach optimalen AGB. Die Wahl fiel eindeutig auf den Charter-Fairtrag von Yacht-Pool, der bereits in allen relevanten Sprachen vorlag und einen fairen Interessenausgleich zwischen Vercharterern und Charterern darstellte.

Die Online Plattform “myrentboat.com” hat Kundenzahlungen nicht weitergeleitet und lässt die Skipper nun im Regen stehen. Ein Lehrbeispiel dafür, was man bei Online-Charter beachten sollte.

Mit neuen Gütesiegeln will der Versicherungsmakler Orientierungshilfe leisten und zur Schadensvermeidung beitragen.

Die ausklingende Chartersaison hat unseren Erfahrungsschatz (und den so manchen Charterskippers) erneut um so manche skurrile Begebenheit erweitert. Die meisten Chartertörns gingen reibungsfrei übers Wasser, einige waren besonders „abenteuerlich“.

The Austrian Boat Show – BOOT TULLN continues its success story! The biggest and most comprehensive boat and water sports trade fair in Central and Eastern Europe   The trade fair city Tulln on the Danube has been presenting the Austrian Boat Show for 50 years. Drawing 50,000 visitors with substantial purchasing power come each year from Austria and abroad to enjoy the attractions of the trade fair and its host city.   For 2024 BOOT TULLN promises even more excitement, more show and more enthusiasm – a trade fair of the highest order.

What will be in store for visitors in 2024?

Since it takes place at the beginning of march, the trade fair in Tulln will be able to present all the latest developments in the nautical sector as well as in the fields of water sports and sport diving in Austria immediately after BOOT Düsseldorf. More than 380 of the most important exhibitors will present their innovations and provide an impressive overview of the sector. Sailing and motor yachts, grand sailboats and turbo jet boats, motor boats and environmentally friendly electric boats, nautical equipment, sporty catamarans, kayaks, canoes, rubber rafts, paddleboats and dinghies will be on display. There will also be a unique range of nautical equipment. The Austrian Boat Show – BOOT TULLN 2024 will offer not only a comprehensive and wide-ranging programme, it will also be organised in terms of themes.

Hall 3 – The motor boat centre

In Hall 3 a huge presentation of motor boats, motors and appropriate equipment will await the trade fair visitors. Fishing boats, sport boats, water skiing boats, racing boats, power boats, walk around boats, offshore boats, day cruisers and family cruisers, motor yachts, console boats - centre console boats, excursion boats, working boats, displacement boats ....

Hall 4 - Tourism and Charter

“Book a holiday with the professionals!” – regardless of how and where you want to spend your holiday, whether on a houseboat, sailboat, catamaran or motorboat – here you will find a large selection of charter companies and information on individual destinations. Specialists are available to provide trip support and insider tips. Marinas, associations and much more – the excitement for upcoming holidays is rising in hall 4.

Hall 4 and Hall 5 – The sailing competence centre of the Austrian Boat Show

Sailing is the major theme of Halls 4 and 5. From Optimists to Star boats: everything there is to know about dinghies, catamarans, trimarans, sailing for beginners and professionals. For those who long for distant shores, charter experts will offer fulfilment and provide show visitors with information about dream tours – top locations, boats and people all the way to the South Seas.

Hall 6 – NEW: Stand Up Paddling - A special area will be set up for the new trend sport on the Boot Tulln

The perfect introduction to the new trend sport of the summer, the Stand Up Paddling, those interested can now experience on the boat Tulln. The currently fastest growing sport in the world offers a new and fascinating facet in the colorful world of water sports.

Hall 6 – “Pure Nature”– canoes, kayaks, folding boats, rowboats & co.

Is there anything more appealing than setting out in a boat on your holidays to explore new places, to make river tours, to paddle along coastlines or simply to discover a beautiful lake? Canoes, kayaks, folding boats and rowboats – that is the theme of Hall 6 – Here you can get full information about these different types of boats. From 7 kg lightweights to folding canoes and folding boats for expeditions!

Hall 6 – Equipment as far as the eye can see

Austria’s biggest offering of equipment for yachts and boats will be housed in Hall 6. Boat equipment, boat electronics, motors, technical equipment, high quality functional clothing, marina equipment and much more ....

Hall 8 – Everything to meet the needs of divers

Divers will not be able to resist BOOT TULLN. The big consumer show for sport diving will be located in Hall 8. Exhibitors will present all the latest developments in diving equipment, underwater photography and international travel destinations.  NEW: Diving experience in a diving tower. 

Hall 10 – “Sailing Yachts”

The berth for big sailing ships up to over 50 feet at the Austrian Boat Show is traditionally the “Niederösterreich Halle” (Lower Austria Hall).

About Yacht-Pool

The yacht-pool story.

Dr. Schöchl initially wanted nothing to do with insurance. However, he was greatly annoyed by the poor conditions at the expense of the customers of the family business Sunbeam Yachts, which is why he wrote the YACHT-POOL hull and liability conditions, thus becoming the initiator of all-risk coverage . A fundamental innovation in boat and yacht insurance. They far surpassed traditional individual risk coverage in terms of customer orientation!

Since insurance conditions could not be patented, they were gradually copied by competitors over the years and are now in the market. At YACHT-POOL, policyholders were grouped into a “POOL” – hence the name YACHT-POOL, which was intended to speak with one voice and provide a counterweight to insurance companies and their teams of lawyers, to which the individual was always inferior.

In the charter sector, Dr. Schöchl was the first to recognize the high personal liability risk of the charter skipper, which he considered unacceptable. He formulated and wrote the corresponding skipper liability conditions, thus launching the protection of charter skippers. He is therefore considered one of the inventors of Skipper Liability Insurance.

But it didn’t stop there. Further specialized insurances such as charter deposit insurance, charter cancellation insurance, and a range of other coverage concepts were developed. In professional circles, YACHT-POOL thus became a pioneer in charter insurance and trendsetter for water sports insurance.

Moreover, YACHT-POOL evolved into a kind of “ombudsman” for questions that went beyond insurance solutions. This includes the quality seal “CHECKED & TRUSTED Financial Security,” which provides charterers with better guidance in choosing economically stable charter agencies and fleet operators, thereby minimizing the risk of insolvency.

Equally important was the development of the “FairCharter Contract” – a standard contract of terms and conditions for charterers designed to protect the charter skipper from problematic “voluntary liability agreements” where no insurance coverage applies.

The international associations EBI (European Boating Industry) in Brussels and ICOMIA (International Council of Marine Industry Associations) in London adopted this contract as a model for international and official general charter standard conditions.

Report from the trade magazine Boote 1.2024 – The clear conditions of YACHT-POOL’s charter fair contract convince the leisure boating lobby! Unclear conditions and toxic clauses in charter contracts could soon be a thing of the past, or at least the exception. The European and global associations of the leisure boating industry, EBI (European Boating Industry) in Brussels and ICOMIA (International Council of Marine Industry Associations) in London, recognized the importance of this topic for nautical tourism, a conflict-free charter business and, last but not least, for the reputation of the entire industry.

Several meetings were held with the presidents of the national associations of charter companies and charter agencies to find the best possible general terms and conditions. The choice fell clearly on Yacht-Pool’s Charter-Fairvertrag, which was already available in all relevant languages and represented a fair balance of interests between charter companies and charterers.

The online platform “myrentboat.com” has not forwarded customer payments and is now leaving skippers out in the cold. A textbook example of what you should bear in mind when chartering online.

With new seals of approval, the insurance broker wants to provide guidance and contribute to loss prevention.

As the charter season draws to a close, our wealth of experience (and that of many a charter skipper) has once again been enriched by many a bizarre incident. Most of the charter trips went smoothly over the water, some were particularly “adventurous”.

Following the “Checked & Trusted” seal of approval for charter companies, the insurer Yacht-Pool is now making people sit up and take notice with two more labels: A seal for skippers and one for marinas are in the works.

After almost 20 years as exhibition manager of Boot Tulln, Thomas Diglas joins the insurer Yacht-Pool. In an interview with , he looks back on his time at the Austrian Boat Show and explains the reasons for his change of job and industry.
