Expanding beyond the great lakes and encompassing the world, Carver was acquired into a much larger family by Genmar Holdings in the 1990s. In the 2000s the Voyager models made their debuts, with the flagship 570 model become one of the most popular Pilothouse yachts on the market. Building on the Pilothouse style, Carver began production of the Marquis Class of Yachts in 2003 and has become one of the nicest premium boat brands to date.

Carver Boats Information

Carver History:

In 1954 Charles Carter and George Verhagen began building mahogany-planked, high-speed runabouts in a Milwaukee garage. What began as a hobby rapidly turned into a business and as word-of-mouth quickly spread the two novice boat builders began selling their hand crafted boats. The two entrepreneurs combined the first three letters of their last names and the Carver Boat Company and the Carver brand was born.

These entrepreneurs moved their growing business to Northeast, Wisconsin in 1954 to take advantage of the area’s enthusiastic work force and excellent transportation options and services. They built mahogany runabout boats during the 1960’s and eventually added cabin cruisers to their expanding line quality boats. In the 1970s, they switched their construction to fiberglass.

By the 1980’s Carver had been acquired by new owners which empowered the company to expand sales beyond the Great Lakes and Midwest region and truly become a recognized frontrunner in the luxury motor yacht market. The Carver aft cabin style motor yacht was initially introduced during this period and became synonymous with the Carver brand in the 1980’s and 1990’s. The 1990’s also saw the introduction of the well-designed and upscale Voyager long range cruisers as well as the Montego series of stern drive cruisers. By the late 1990’s, all Carver Yachts were constructed without structural wood below the waterline. Fiberglass stringers and many other innovative features were introduced that made Carvers the most durable and long lasting boats in the water. The largest Carver Yacht, the 57 Voyager Pilothouse, was introduced in 2000.

The Carver Philosophy:

Some boat builders would have you consider that size alone determines what is and is not a motor yacht. But Carver Yacht has a different perspective; they don’t suppose that a true yacht can be built by machines and robotically. Nor, do they believe, that it can be mass-produced to gratify one and all. Creating a true yacht demands the combination of art and science which is a skillful combination of a craftsman’s artistry with the finest boat building technologies available. Stanley Castro

Stanley J. Castro, born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a yachting industry veteran with over 20 years of experience. His career began as a teenager when he started working as a boat cleaner and later as a salesman at Industrial & Marine Service, Inc., a boat dealer and brokerage firm his father founded in 1975.

In 1995 he assumed the role of general manager of the firm. He gained diverse experience in sales and maintenance in the Caribbean marketplace for Sea Ray, Bertram, Lazzara, Hydra-Sports, Meridian and Scout, among others. This role allowed him to build strong relationships with all parties and areas of the boating business including manufacturers, bankers, brokers and consumers.

A billfish sport aficionado, with a great understanding of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, Stanley is an active participant and leader in the Billfish Tournaments series in the Caribbean, where he has won several white and blue marlin honors. His favorite fishing seasons and locations for fishing are the May-June full moon time in Cap Cana, Dominican Republic and August-September, known as the “big blues” in San Juan and the “north drop” zone in St. Thomas.

Aside from his vast experience within the yachting industry, Stanley stands out for being goal oriented and results driven. There are 3 traits that can best describe his day-to-day interaction with owners and customers: humbleness, honesty, and hard work.

Luis M. Ayala

Luis M. Ayala was born in Puerto Rico, and since birth his father introduced him to boating. His father owned a boat parts and service store in the 1980s, where Luis learned to take his first steps. At age 10, with a lot of interest in boats and always wanting to captain the boat, Luis took the captain's role on his father's 38’ convertible.

Growing up in a boating family, Luis has always looked for something to give him adrenaline, and from his teenage years, he cruised with his family’s boat in the Caribbean looking for places to water ski or go fishing.

In 1997 while studying business administration, Luis began a part-time job at Industrial & Marine Service, Inc. working in several areas of the business. After working in the first ever boat show in Puerto Rico, Luis sold his first boat, a Sea Ray 34, and rapidly discovered his passion for yacht sales.

After graduating with a degree in business administration, Luis worked full time for the Industrial & Marine sales team and several years later was promoted to Sales Manager. Industrial & Marine is a boat dealer and brokerage firm established in 1975 representing the prestigious brands Sea Ray, Lazzara, Hydra-Sports, Meridian, Scout Boats and Sea Vee Boats in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.

All these years in the yachting business gave Luis vast experience and strong relationships in all aspects of the industry working directly with banks, manufacturers, brokers and a exclusive clientele.

Alvin Lartigue

Alvin Lartigue, born and raised in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, moved to Weston, FL in 2015 with his wife and two kids. Always passionate about boats, he found himself flirting with the opportunity to become a yacht broker. Being the grandson of merchant marine allowed him to grow up close to boats and helped him fall in love with the boating industry starting at the young age of five years old.
