Motor Yacht

Motor yacht Boadicea was built in 1999 by Dutch shipyard Amels and even now remains a highly impressive and aesthetically pleasing superyacht. With a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, she features interior and exterior design by Terence Disdale. This twin screw diesel yacht measures 70.5 metres and can accommodate up to 14 guests.

Luxury motor yacht Boadicea was constructed for Australian media magnate Reg Grundy and has remained under his ownership ever since. The yacht takes her name from a legendary English warrior queen whose figure can be seen adorning the yacht’s funnel and inside near the dining room.

The superyacht boasts an incredible degree of interior volume and an abundance of open space spread across her five decks. The interior offers a choice of formal and informal areas that are highlighted by soft furnishings in beige and salmon-pink.

The layout has been designed so both intimate spaces and large entertaining areas are catered for. The vessel boasts nine separate dining areas, ranging from casual al fresco lounges to a formal saloon that can seat 16 guests at once. The main saloon follows in a similar vein with a large open space for party hosting and isolated nooks for more private conversations.

Obviously designed with entertainment in mind, the yacht features a 14 seat cinema, stage suitable for live entertainment, piano bar and a gym. Two custom-built Vikal tenders are stored in specially created tender bays on the main side deck. When she was originally built, the yacht had a real grass lawn on one of her upper aft decks to cater for the owners’ dogs when they travelled with them. The lawn space was now been removed.

The bright sundeck crowns the impressive vessel, boasting a lovely tiled swimming pool with a water jet-stream that allows guests to swim against a current. A fixed-stool bar, sun loungers and cocktail seating areas can also be found on the sundeck offering superior views.

Amongst her seven cabins are an indulgent master suite; four double guest cabins; and two twin guest cabins. The master suite features a private bathroom, dressing room with an immense closet and a massage room. The four double cabins all include en suite bathrooms and dressing rooms.

Luxury yacht Boadicea is powered by two Caterpillar 2,590 horsepower engines that allow her to reach a maximum speed of 18 knots. She can achieve a range of 5,000 nautical miles while cruising at a speed of 15 knots.

Featuring a dedicated crew, Boadicea is an excellent charter yacht for luxury vacations. The yacht cruises comfortably at 14 knots while her crew of 26 ensure the needs of every guest are met.

The luxury motor yacht is equipped with an armada of water toys to provide endless entertainment during any yacht charter. Onboard water toys include tenders, Wave Runners, a laser sailing dinghy, windsurfers, kayaks, waterskis, tows and a range of snorkelling and fishing equipment.

Boadicea cruises the Mediterranean during the summer charter season. The luxury vessel carries a Lloyd’s classification and is fully MCA compliant.

Reg Grundy: The man who knew everybody needs good ‘Neighbours’

Reg Grundy, shown here in 2010, protected his privacy

Reg Grundy, who also created ‘Wheel of Fortune’ has died. By Cahal Milmo

In 1967, an Australian game show producer called Reg Grundy decided that there might be something in the fledgling television genre of the soap opera but cast doubt on whether it was for him.

He said: “I don’t know whether I have the talent or organisation or ability to do these things.” It was a characteristically self-effacing statement from a man whose eye for a format and iron-willed pursuit of a syndication deal put the soaps he then dreamt up – from Sons and Daughters to Neighbours – in sitting rooms around the world and earned him a large chunk of his estimated £400m fortune.

“If Reg Grundy hadn’t made all those TV shows, Australian families, in the evening, would have had to talk to each other.” Dame Edna Everage

But while his tales of life in Australia’s sun-kissed suburbs gained an improbably avid audience in Britain – and in so doing launched the careers of Neighbours alumni such as Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Natalie Imbruglia – their moustachioed creator remained largely a reclusive enigma even until his death at the age of 92 was announced yesterday.

Indeed, in the annals of British broadcasting history the name “Grundy” may be more likely to conjure up thoughts of a soap of an altogether different hue in the shape of BBC Radio 4’s The Archers.

But in his native land, Mr Grundy is widely regarded as one of the godfathers of Australian television with a prolific output that ranged from inventing the Wheel of Fortune and Sale of the Century quiz shows to a host of crowd-pleasing serials such as Prisoner: Cell Block H and The Young Doctors.

Such was the quantity of material produced by his company – Reg Grundy Productions – that it was widely held that Australian families could spend an evening flicking across channels and still be watching only programmes created by the man who preferred to be known as “RG”.

Andrew Denton, a leading Australian presenter, said yesterday: “I’m sure the record will show that more Australians have watched more hours of Reg Grundy television than that of any other individual.”

“Reg was one of these legendary founders and Neighbours was one of the many products of his life’s work. I was lucky to be a small part of his world.” Jason Donovan

Or as Dame Edna Everage once put in: “If Reg Grundy hadn’t made all those TV shows, Australian families, in the evening, would have had to talk to each other.”

Among those paying tribute to Grundy, who had one child, was Jason Donovan, who first entered the conscience of Britons as Kylie Minogue’s other half in the “Scott and Charlene” saga that became the defining romance of Neighbours’ 1980s heyday.

Donovan said: “I’m old enough to remember a time when the true pioneers of the Australian television industry built it from nothing and gave opportunities to actors, directors and crew alike.

“Reg was one of these legendary founders and Neighbours was one of the many products of his life’s work. I was lucky to be a small part of his world.”

But while the Sydney entrepreneur, who began his career as a sports commentator on post-war radio, made millions from viewers’ appetite for the trials and tribulations of his characters, he positively recoiled from scrutiny of his own private life. Grundy sold his production house to the British company Pearson Television in 1995 for £200m and withdrew to the British territory and tax haven of Bermuda. Among his projects was the building of Boadicea– a 74.5-metre yacht complete with swimming pool, cinema and a crew which at one point included a talented but unknown British chef called Gordon Ramsay.

He routinely turned down nearly all interviews, preferring instead to spend time with his wife, Joy Chambers, whom he met when she was an 18-year-old auditioning for one of his shows, and pursue his hobby of wildlife photography.

In one rare interview 13 years ago, the broadcasting tycoon, who once admitted to getting his break by copying American game show formats in the 1950s, said: “I’ve always liked to entertain people. I enjoyed playing games. The rest followed.”

KEY POINTS:

It's the season for superyachts. The sumptuous, $146 million yacht Boadicea, reportedly owned by Australian television game show producer Reg Grundy, was yesterday sitting grandly in Omaha Bay, near Wellsford. Meanwhile, a more modest $21m America's Cup party yacht owned by entrepreneur Eric Watson is to be officially launched next week. The 37m Bacchus was described by its builder as "a real party boat". "There's lots of room for enter-taining. It will be a fun yacht - there's no two ways about it. It's decked out with the mod-cons," said Bill Lloyd of Sovereign Yachts. The luxury vessel has three bars and four large guest cabins, each with its own en-suite, individual air-conditioning and the latest electronics. The master cabin is big enough for a king-sized bed, while the others have queen-sized beds. There's also a captain's cabin, an engineer's suite and two cabins for crew. Marble, mahogany and granite line much of the ship, with the hull made of fibreglass and carbon fibre with teak decking. Instead of a dining room and lounge area, the owners asked for one giant room to host parties. "There's a lot of room in it - it's a huge salon," said Lloyd. While the average Kiwi would hardly say no to Bacchus as a summer toy, Grundy's Boadicea is in a different league. The five-deck, 70m Dutch-built vessel is the 40th largest superyacht in the world. It has a cinema, piano, gym, swimming pool, 8m jetboat and jet-skis on board - and costs $710,000 a week to hire. Bacchus has three owners with a third share each. Watson and business partner Mark Hotchin own one share, with the other owners from Britain and New Zealand. Lloyd said, where possible, New Zealand materials and products were used. Lloyd told the Herald on Sunday the yacht would be taken by ship to Valencia for the America's Cup tournament on about January 23. It won't travel under its own steam but Lloyd said it would be more than capable of it. Its 2000hp engines and 34,000-litre fuel capacity could handle the oceans, he said. Bacchus took more than two years to build and has been operational since mid-September. It is registered to George Town in the Cayman Islands.

IN the end, Reg Grundy’s timing was as impeccable in death as it was in his extraordinary life — giving a new generation of stars at last night’s Logie awards their moment to shine before news of his passing cast a shadow over post-party celebrations today.

The self-made Australian media mogul, whose legacy of TV credits included global hits Neighbours , Prisoner and Wheel Of Fortune , was confirmed dead at the age of 92 in Bermuda, where he had lived with actress wife Joy Chambers.

Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, who both became global superstars thanks to their time on Neighbours , have been among the many Australian celebrities to pay tribute to Grundy.

Awarded an OBE for his contribution to TV and media in 1983, Grundy became synonymous for producing local Australian drama and game shows, the formats for which he first tested on Sydney radio station 2CH.

**This picture has a scanned reverse - see associated content at the bottom of the details window** Reg Grundy, television producer.

Broadcaster Alan Jones confirmed Grundy’s death on his 2GB program, telling listeners he had “passed away in the arms of his beloved wife Joy on their Bermuda estate.”

It is understood he died on Friday (Bermuda time).

In a statement, Kylie Minogue recalled her time on Neighbours and said she is thankful to have “been part of what has become an Australian institution”.

Minogue famously played Charlene Robinson on the show, opposite Jason Donovan, who played her on-screen husband, Scott.

“The Australian TV landscape was so heavily influenced by Reg Grundy. I watched his shows growing up and, of course, one show in particular was to change the course of my life,” she said.

“ Neighbours will always mean so much to me and I’m so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of what has become an Australian institution.”

Donovan said he was “lucky” to have known the TV mogul.

“I was so sad to hear about the passing of Reg Grundy. I’m old enough to remember a time when the true pioneers of the Australian television industry built it from nothing and gave opportunities to actors, directors and crew alike,” he said.

“Reg was one of these legendary founders and Neighbours was one of the many products of his life’s work.

“I was lucky to be a small part of his world. My thoughts go out to his family at this time.”

Such was the impact Grundy’s programs had on shaping the portrait of Australian society and culture, his name also became part of the colloquial lexicon, with Reg Grundys becoming slang for underwear.

In 1995, he sold the Grundy Organisation to what is now, FremantleMedia Australia.

Grundy — widely known as RG to his friends — is mourned by his wife Joy Chambers. The couple were married in 1972.

Reg Grundy died on Friday (Bermuda time) but news of his passing was only released in Australia today.

AN INDUSTRY MOURNS

Ian Hogg, chief executive officer of FremantleMedia Australia eulogised Grundy as “a national treasure”.

“His legacy to Australian entertainment is insurmountable. His visionary ability to know how to connect Australian families through some of this country’s most loved programming has stood the test of time. Generations of Australians have grown up with and been touched by a Grundy Production, be it Sons and Daughters , Sale of the Century , Prisoner , The Price Is Right and hundreds of other programs. His innate understanding of great storytelling and entertainment lives on today through programs such as Family Feud , Wentworth and Neighbours . Reg is an icon and he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Joy and family at this difficult time.”

Neighbours ’ executive producer Jason Herbison said: “Everyone at Neighbours owes a huge debt to Reg Grundy. Quite simply, we wouldn’t be here without him.

“He will be remembered as a pioneer of Australian television and a true gentleman. His legacy at Neighbours lives on and we hope to do him proud.”

Reg Grundy (pictured in 2003) is being remembered for telling Australia’s story — from behind the scenes.

A Current Affair host Tracy Grimshaw, who was granted the only TV interview with Grundy three years ago, said: “Like so many Australians, I grew up with Reg Grundy’s vision, without having a clue about the man behind the ubiquitous productions. RG (he didn’t like being called Reg) was a pioneer in game shows, in drama, in soapies. He was a star maker. But he totally rejected the limelight. He only gave one television interview in his life, and I was privileged and fascinated to be one who spoke with him. He was shy talking about himself ... but not reticent. He remembered everything. He remained passionate about television and emotional about the company he had finally decided to sell some years before. He was a pioneer of our industry. And a devoted husband to Joy, who will be feeling his loss so deeply today. Vale RG. And thanks.”

Reg Grundy and the Wheel of Fortune.

Born on August 4, 1923, in NSW, Reginald Roy Grundy was the only child of working-class parents Roy Grundy and Lillian Lees, who met in a chocolate factory on the cusp of the Depression.

He left school at 15, served in the army during World War II and worked as a ladies sportswear buyer for department store David Jones.

He started working in radio as a sports commentator, specialising in boxing, for 2SM Sydney. He also did voice-over work for cinema advertiser Chas E Blanks.

While working at 2CH Sydney in 1957 Grundy developed and hosted the radio show Wheel Of Fortune , which debuted on the Nine Network in 1959.

His career was an intrinsic part of the golden years of Australian TV. His name was attached to many game shows throughout the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, including Celebrity Squares , Blanketty Blanks , Beat the Odds and Great Temptation .

Reg Grundy, pictured in 2003.

The company later branched out into dramas, producing an astonishing line-up of shows which were embraced by the Australian viewing public. In addition to the ‘big hits’ such as Neighbours (now in its 31st year), Grundy helped develop Chopper Squad, Glenview High, Sons and Daughters and the New Zealand TV hit, Shortland Street .

He also produced the fondly-remembered ABBA vehicle ABBA: The Movie , in 1978.

Although he was phenomenally successful as a producer, Grundy did not always have the Midas touch, as a string of failed soap operas for the Nine Network in the mid 1980s (including Taurus Rising and Possession ) testified.

But other hits were to come in the early 21st century — including a new range of reality TV contests such as Australian Idol (2003).

Reg and Joy Grundy.

GRUNDY’S WHEEL OF FORTUNE

Grundy sold his company, the Reg Grundy Organisation, to Pearson Television in the mid 1990s.

His personal wealth was estimated at $805 million as far back as 2007.

He and Joy spent many years sailing between Bermuda, Los Angeles and London aboard his 25-staff super yacht, Boadicea , before settling in Bermuda.

An auction of his art collection back in 2013 was billed as the most valuable art auction ever staged in Australia, with over 90 works valued at around $20 million.

He was made a companion of the Order of Australia in 2008.

So sad the legendary Reg Grundy has died aged 92. An extraordinary success story. Never lost the passion for creating TV. — Peter Ford (@mrpford) May 8, 2016

Nine yachts Africa’s wealthiest people have owned

Isabella Dos Santos (Angola)

If you had all the money in the world, what type of yacht would you buy?

Would it be a $65-million Benetti B .NOW 68M, a $25-million 141-footer Mangusta Oceano 42, or a more subtle $5-million Sunseeker 76?

When it comes to splurging on yachts, African billionaires are not as brazen as some of their foreign counterparts.

For context: Roman Abramovich’s new superyacht, Solaris , costs an estimated $600 million. Another, lesser billionaire, vodka tycoon Yuri Shefler, who is worth $2.4 billion, according to Forbes, once owned Serene , a superyacht which he sold off in 2015 to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman for a reported $550 million. The most expensive yacht ever owned by an African billionaire is arguably Illusion – formerly called Galactica Star – previously owned by Nigerian fugitive oil tycoon Kola Aluko. And it was reportedly worth $50 million .

Here are nine yachts that have been owned by some of Africa’s richest people of all time – some living, others, dead.

Former owner: Isabel dos Santos, Angolan

The 49.8-meter superyacht Hayken is a custom-built Heesen yacht owned by troubled Angolan billionaire Isabel dos Santos. She reportedly acquired the yacht from London property developer Christian Candy. Hayken sports an aluminium superstructure and hydrodynamic hull that allows her to sail with minimal fuel consumption. Its exterior was designed by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects and its interior by Francesco Paszkowski. The naval architecture of the yacht was designed by Van Oossanen Naval Architects. Hayken offers accommodation for up to 12 guests across five staterooms with ensuites and a luxurious master suite. Powered by twin MTU 16V 4000 M90 diesel engines, Hayken can reach a maximum speed of 23 knots and she cruises at 17 knots.

Boadicea

Owner: Gabriele Volpi, Nigerian

Boadicea is owned by Italian-Nigerian billionaire Gabriele Volpi, founder of Orlean Invest. The 76.6-meter yacht was initially built by Amels of Netherlands for Australian media mogul Reg Grundy. It has a beam of 14 meters, a draft of 4.2 meters and a volume of 2,191 GT. She can accommodate 16 guests and a crew of 23. She is powered by two Caterpillar engines. Boadicea can reach a maximum speed of 15 knots and a cruise speed of 13 knots.

Owner: King Mohammed VI, Moroccan

Badis I is owned by King Mohammed VI of Morocco. The 229.8-foot/70-meter custom-sail yacht was built by Perini Navi in Italy. The interior was designed by PHDesign to comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in six cabins, which include a master suite, two VIP staterooms and three double cabins. She also has the capacity to carry up to 11 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience. Powered by 2 MTU (16V 2000 M72) 1,930-horsepower diesel engines and propelled by her twin screw propellers sailing yacht, Badis I is capable of a top speed of 17.5 knots, and comfortably cruises at 12.5 knots when powered by her engines.

Illusion, formerly known as Galactica Star

Former owner: Kola Aluko , Nigerian

Illusion, formerly known as Galactica Star, is a 65-meter/213-foot motor yacht built by Heesen. It was built for long-range cruising, with a 4,200 nautical mile range at 14 knots and a fast cruise speed in the range of 28 knots. The custom-built interior was designed by Bannenberg & Rowel and offers accommodation for up to six guests in 12 cabins, which comprises one master, one VIP and four double staterooms. Galactica Star was delivered to controversial Nigerian oil tycoon Kola Aluko in 2013, but it was seized and sold in 2019 by the U.S. government following a court-ordered seizure of Aluko’s assets due to possible connections to a continuing Nigerian oil corruption case. It was subsequently purchased by American businessman David McKenzie, head of Associated Television International.

Former owner: Mohammed Al-Fayed, Egyptian

Sokar is a luxury yacht once owned by Egyptian billionaire Mohammed Al-Fayed, the founder of Harrods department store in Knightsbridge. The 63.7-meter motor yacht was built by the Italian superyacht yard Codecasa in steel and aluminium to a design by naval architect Vincenzo Ruggiero. The yacht’s extensive accommodation provides for 18 guests in a master suite and eight double staterooms, all with en suite bathroom facilities. She is equipped with two 3,760 horsepower engines. The yacht also has a beam of 10.4 meters and a draft of 3.9 meters. Sokar was renamed Bash by its current owner, who acquired it in 2021.

Former owner: Deinde Fernandez, Nigerian

Hud Hud, formerly called Yemoja is a motor yacht with a length of 46.9 meters. It has a steel hull and aluminium superstructure and was built by Dutch shipmaker Feadship who delivered the yacht in 1994. Its first owner was the late Nigerian billionaire Deinde Fernandez. The yacht features exterior and interior design by De Voogt Naval Architects and Larvor, respectively, with naval architecture by De Voogt Naval Architects. Its features include a beam of 8.6 meters, a draft of 2.75 meters and a volume of 558 GT. It accommodates up to eight guests and 10 crew members, including the captain. The yacht Hud Hud has a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. She is powered by two Caterpillar Inc engines, which give her a cruising speed of 13.0 knots and a top speed of 14.5 knots.

Owner: Femi Otedola, Nigerian

Nana is a Sunseeker Predator 108 motor yacht owned by Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola, the chairman of Geregu Power. The 32.91-meter motor yacht has a beam of 6.3 meters, a draft of 1.2 meters and a volume of 142 GT. It can accommodate up to eight guests and four crew members. Nana has a grp hull and grp superstructure. She is powered by three MTU engines, which give her a cruising speed of 28 knots and a top speed of 42 knots. The yacht carries 11,000 liters of fuel onboard, and 1,800 liters of water. Nana is capable of a top speed of 42 knots, and comfortably cruises at 28 knots.

Owner: Naguib Sawiris, Egyptian

Yalla, built by CRN Yacht, is owned by Egyptian billionaire Naguib Sawiris. The 73-meter yacht can accommodate 12 guests in six suites, and she has facilities for 22 crew members. Her interior was designed by Droulers Architecture, while her exterior was designed by Omega Architects. The yacht is powered by two Caterpillar engines, which bring her a top speed of 18.5 knots. Her cruise speed is 13 knots.

Owner: Aliko Dangote, Nigerian

Africa’s richest man is the owner of a Sunseeker Predator 108-foot motor yacht christened, “Mariya.” Mariya is designed to comfortably accommodate up to eight guests overnight in four cabins, comprising a master suite, one VIP stateroom and two twin cabins. Mariya is capable of a top speed of 44 knots and comfortably cruises at 30 knots.

The superyachts owned by tech moguls

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is set to join the exclusive club of yacht-owning tech tycoons as the rumoured owner of Oceanco's mighty 127m sailing yacht . Though it should come as no surprise - other big names in tech such as the late Steve Jobs, Larry Ellison and Paul Allen have been responsible for some of the biggest and most ground-breaking superyachts in the world...

The 127-metre Oceanco sailing yacht Koru, formerly Y721, was launched and reportedly delivered to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in April 2023. This three-masted schooner, meaning “new beginnings” in Maori, with an expected 33000 GT and a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, is the largest in the world and the longest built in the Netherlands at Oceanco. Knocking Lürssen's Eos , owned by Biller and Diane von Furstenburg, off the top spot, Koru harnesses design similarities with her black hull, white superstructure and classic lines. However, the intricate gold paintwork, scarlet bootstrap and elaborate figurehead on the bow particularly set her apart.

Larry Ellison

American business magnate Larry Ellison is the co-founder of the billion-dollar computer tech corporation Oracle. In 2004, he commissioned the 138-metre Lürssen superyacht Rising Sun (pictured), which stands today as the 15th largest yacht in the world. It was also the last yacht that ever came from the drawing boards of legendary designed Jon Bannenberg, sporting a military-esque profile with a lean destroyer-type hull and extensive use of structural glass . Rising Sun boasts 8,000m² of living space including a wine cellar and basketball court, with a crew of 45. One of her tenders, a catamaran, even carries the yacht’s 4x4 vehicle ashore.

Ellison later sold the yacht to media mogul David Geffen and has since hosted a parade of Hollywood's glitterati on board including Leonardo DiCaprio, Steven Spielberg, Bruce Springsteen and Oprah Winfrey – to name a few.

In 2011, Ellison appeared to downsize and took delivery of the 88-metre Feadship Musashi . Not unlike Rising Sun in its appearance, structural glass features heavily throughout with a central glass lift, surrounded by a stainless steel and glass staircase that passes through every deck.

More about this yacht

The late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen is responsible for two of the most iconic superyachts in the world. At 126-metres in length, Octopus is perhaps his most famous. Built by Lürssen in 2003, this ice-classed superyacht was designed for extended cruising to the most remote locations on earth with a range of 12,500 nautical miles. Home to a helicopter garage, drive-in tender garage, six tenders, and a submarine, she packs a serious punch within her 9,932GT – not to mention the cinema, swimming pool, recording studio, basketball court and spa. At the end of 2019, she joined the market for the very first time , having completed an eight-month refit at Blohm+Voss, and remains the benchmark for exploration yachting.

Tatoosh is another honourable mention and was built by German shipyard Nobiskrug in 2000, three years prior to the delivery of Octopus . At 92-metres, she's smaller than her successor, but to describe Tatoosh as "small" would be a severe understatement. Highlights include a six-foot-deep swimming pool, a pair of helipads, a crew of 30, and a custom 12-metre Hinckley powerboat that she carries on her top deck. Tatoosh is also listed for sale following a refit earlier this year.

Yachts for charter

The 78-metre Feadship Venus was built for the late Apple boss and founder Steve Jobs. Built under the codename Project Aqua, Venus was launched to international fanfare in 2012, heralded for its extensive use of glass and pared-back design courtesy of Philippe Starck . Innovative features include a false top deck that conceals the communication and television receivers from view and a passarelle that, when opened, looks like the charging port of an iPhone. Venus ’s interior details have been closely guarded since its launch. Sadly, Jobs died a year before the yacht was delivered.

Charles Simonyi

Charles Simonyi led the team that built the first edition of the Microsoft Office software suite and was rumoured to have previously owned Lürssen’s iconic 71-metre SKAT .  Nearly two decades after her launch in 2002, she joined the market for the first time and now Simonyi is thought to have upgraded to the 89-metre Lürssen Norn . Both yachts, penned by Espen Onion, share similar design features. Standout features include an alfresco cinema and adapted depth pool floor with dance floor. Norn was delivered in May 2023.

Sergey Brin

Google co-founder Sergey Brin reportedly owns the high-speed SilverYachts superyacht named Dragonfly , after Google’s once-secret project to launch a censored search engine in China. Delivered in 2009, the 73.3-metre Dragonfly was hailed as the fastest, most fuel-efficient long-range cruising superyacht on the water with a transatlantic range at 22 knots and a fuel consumption of only 360 litres per hour at 18 knots, extending her range to 4,500 nautical miles. Dragonfly is said to have a dance floor and open-air movie theatre on board. The vessel was applauded for its contribution to the disaster relief effort in Vanuatu after Hurricane Pam devastated the island in 2015. The crew reportedly moved 62 metric tons of freshwater ashore, treated over 250 patients, facilitated three medical evacuations, and built shelters in multiple villages and cleared numerous helicopter landing zones for ongoing support.

Yachts for sale

Google’s billionaire co-founder Larry Page purchased the 60-metre explorer yacht conversion Senses from a New Zealand businessman Sir Douglas Myers back in 2011. The globe-trotting superyacht features interiors by Philippe Starck and can accommodate a total of 12 guests on board, with primary guests reaping the benefits of the master suite's gyro-stabilised bed. Senses also houses an exceptional toy box with three high-speed tenders, six wave runners, a jet board and a JetLev. According to the New Zealand Herald, Senses is currently undergoing a refit in Whangārei, New Zealand, after being sold to an unknown buyer in 2020.

Barry Diller

The world’s largest three-masted schooner – also the third largest sailing yacht in the world – is owned by fashion designer Diane von Fürstenberg and her husband Barry Diller, chairman and senior executive of IAC/InterActiveCorp and Expedia Group. The 92.92-metre sailing yacht, named Eos , was built in Germany by Lürssen and delivered in 2006 with a trio of masts that stand 61-metres tall. The sailing yacht has hosted the couple's star-studded group of friends including Andy Cohen, Gayle King, Bradley Cooper, Harry Styles and Karlie Kloss. The interiors were designed by Francois Catroux, who Vanity Fair named as “the super-rich's favourite interior designer" in 2016.

Mark Zuckerburg

The 107-metre Kleven superyacht Andromeda was built for serial superyacht owner Graeme Hart and delivered under the name Ulysses . In 2017, a year after its launch, rumours began circulating that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerburg had purchased the rugged, six-deck explorer (although a Facebook spokesperson was quick to stamp out the rumours and released a statement denying the claims). Andromeda can carry 36 guests and is equipped with an impressive inventory of toys and tenders, including six motorbikes, two ATVs, a helicopter and an amphibious rib. Five years after her launch, Andromeda still ranks among the largest explorer yachts in the world .

Eric Schmidt

The former Google ceo Eric Schmidt backed out of the purchase of the abandoned 81.3-metre Oceanco Alfa Nero but has been said to have moved onto become the new owner of a 95-metre Lürssen. Kismet was sold in September 2023 to the billionaire as part of one of the biggest brokerage deal of the year. With the details shrouded in secrecy the yacht is now aptly known as Whisper . Espen Onio was responsible for her iconic exterior while inside was thanks to  Reymond Langton , achieving the original brief from the previous commissioning owner Shahid Khan of “caviar and champagne.” Standout details include the hi-tech, art deco saloon, a private observation platform and the Persian-inspired spa area.

The co-founder and former ceo of WhatsApp, Jan Koum, has been rumoured to own the 99.9-metre Feadship , Moonrise. The yacht’s clean and strong lines, penned by Chris Bottoms from Studio de Voogt , won the highly competitive class of best displacement motor yachts above 3,000 GT in the World Superyacht Awards 2021. Features include the helicopter landing deck and modern interiors by Remi Tessier . Accommodation is for up to 16 guests, and there are 32 crew members onboard Moonrise to attend to the guests' every need. The Ukrainian-American mogul is also said to own the accompanying support vessel Nebula.

Evan Speigel

The Silicone Valley ceo, Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel has been reportedly said to own the 94.8-metre Feadship Bliss. Delivered in 2021 the motor yacht penned by Feadship's Studio De Voogt Naval Architects has most recently been spotted cruising Auckland in September 2023. Spiegel is rumoured to be Feadship's younger client. Bliss can accommodate up to 18 guests across nine staterooms; however little else is known about the 2983 GT yacht.
