Tiverton Yacht Club: A cornerstone of the town's social scene
Across the water and a ways away from the historic Ida Lewis Yacht Club lies the Tiverton Yacht Club, a club with a history of its own.
Originally – in the early 1900s, Tiverton yachting enthusiasts joined those from Fall River at the Fall River Yacht Club. However, the Hurricane of 1938 destroyed the Fall River Yacht Club, leaving those from Tiverton and Fall River without a group with which to go out on the water. Around a decade later, some residents – including Carlton and Stewart Grinnell, of the family for which Grinnell’s Beach is named – got together to raise money for a new club. After they had collected enough money, they bought the second floor of its current building at what would become Standish Boatyard.
In the past 70 years, little has changed in this corner of Tiverton. Yet, the Tiverton Yacht Club has since moved to a lot next to the former Fall River Yacht Club in order to accommodate more members in a larger space. This space burned to the ground by a fire caused by electrical issues in 2003. While no one was hurt, the club’s historical trophies and other remnants were largely lost. After jumping through a few hoops, the club was able to rebuild on the land and has continued operating ever since.
The club features a small beach and a bright white front porch in which members can sit and admire the ocean views (and bright sunset colors in the evening). With family socials, races, sail training, barbecues, and other casual, family-friendly activities, the club is a cornerstone of a casual social scene in Tiverton.

- Playground Review - Jamestown, MA
- Spaceship area and Pirate ship area with multiple covered slides and stairs to climb:
- Climber: a large netted pyramid-shaped climber between the two.
- Swings: a row of swings (including an adapted/safety swing) for children and infants
- Zipline with platforms on both sides and a disc seat attached to a thick rope. THIS was one of the most popular attractions at the Jamestown playground. Parental intervention was needed at times to make sure children in line received a turn! (There is no close-up photo of the zipline, but it is along the back fence in the photo below.)
- Fenced in along street/parking areas and latched gate. Children can run around and have fun, but they can't run away faster than you can catch them.
- About three picnic tables and a small grassy area to put down a blanket. At this stage, there are no benches, which might be a nice future addition.
