The White Formula Whisper is a cutting edge catamaran that has been designed and built in the UK.

Designer Ron Price had the idea to bring an affordable flying catamaran to the world sailing scene. After watching the incredible 2014 Americas Cup upset, Ron decided if he couldn’t get a ride on one he would build his own, he designed the Whisper completely on a computer and modeled it using very sophisticated marine development software.  Six months later he was well on his way to launching his prototype. On day one of testing the Whisper prototype foiled flawlessly for over 4 minutes without dropping off the foils.

The production moulds have now been completed on a 3D 6 axis cnc milling machine, and the first boats have been built and are on the publicity circuit visiting many of the worlds boat shows. The new wing style mainsail shows all the flare of a wing sail with the easy storage of a regular sail.

The boat is made using a cutting edge epoxy / carbon fibre infusion method, fully built in the UK and fitted out in our production facility in Essex, the Whisper comes in at a platform weight of only 78Kg. The advancements in 3D printing  and laser sintering has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years, the recent application of printing Carbon Fibre has allowed us to cut a lot of cost out of manufacturing intricate moving parts. We also computer cut all of the internal parts of the boat using our own 3 axis cnc machine, this means we can incorporate weight saving areas into the structure of the hull, lowering the overall weight.

The Whisper is a one design class, but when it comes to the styling, the sky is the limit. Our customers have had some pretty wacky ideas, so we are looking forward to a pretty interesting start line, coupled with the ability to foil in just 4 knots of wind we could see some “pretty fly styles”.

Guy Marchal, the founder of the Whisper-Yachts brand, asked Berret-Racoupeau Yacht Design to draw this environmentally friendly catamaran with 320 square feet (30 m²) of solar panels (6 kWp), a 200-kWh battery pack and two 100-kW Torqeedo electric motors. The Whisper-Yachts 50 should be able to provide “clean” propulsion at 5/6 knots. It can of course sail faster - up to 18 knots - but at that speed, recharging the batteries is necessary through the generator and/or the shore power. The deck layout does not seem to inhibit the surface area of the solar panels - many areas remain well clear. Inside, the nacelle offers a decent 375 sq ft (35 m²), generously bordered by sliding windows. The manufacturer offers a three or four-cabin version. Technical specifications: Builder: Symphony Marine Hull length: 46’3” (14.10 m) Beam: 21’8” (6.60 m) Draft: 28” (0.72 m) Light displacement: 33,730 lbs (15.3 t) Drivetrain: 2 x 100 or 120 kW Generator: 1 or 2 x 25 kW Fuel: 1 or 2 x 40 US gal (150 l) Cruising speed: 10 knots Maximum speed: 18 knots

The new Whisper Yachts from Symphony Marine: spacious, silent and eco-friendly

Minimal Logo

Just say the name aloud and you can imagine yourself out on the open sea aboard these wonderful boats, surrounded by the wind of freedom and, above all, by the pleasure of silence that only an electric motor can give, combined with the even more important pleasure of not polluting. Whisper Yachts is the new range of luxury catamarans launched by Symphony Marine, which, following the new trends in zero environmental impact boating, has decided to equip its crafts with solar-powered electric motors.

whisper-yachts-night-lighting

Generally speaking, all the Whisper Yachts models are striking for the size of their spaces, which have been carefully designed to give the impression that they are l arger than they actually are. This can also be seen in the flybridge, which is equipped with sun loungers and sofas, as well as in the bow lounge and the cockpit lounge. The cockpit lounge can be accessed from the platform by descending a large staircase that crosses the entire width of the boat, allowing the guests to dive into the sea or simply lie out in the sun, staying very close to the water. Last but not least, the master cabin, with its island bed mounted crosswise, is also a very bright, spacious and comfortable space.

In terms of technical features, the propulsion and power management are based on a Torqeedo Deep Blue system. The two shaft motors of 100 kW each are powered by BMW 200 kWh batteries, with the possibility of temporarily increasing power to 2×120 kW so that the boat can reach a cruising speed of 18 knots for a maximum of one hour. Completing the work are 30 square metres of solar panels capable of producing 6 kWp, a 13.2 kW shore power connection and a 25 kW generator: according to the manufacturer’s declarations, the boat can cruise at a speed of 5/6 knots for an unlimited period of time, or at 8/9 knots for five consecutive hours without any polluting emissions, or even at 9/10 knots for ten consecutive hours with the help of the generator.

Whisper Yachts’ first 50-foot model has already been developed and is ready for delivery in the 2023 season. As the company’s presentation states, “Whisper-Yachts is aimed at yachtsmen looking for a yacht with the same luxurious finish as the most prestigious motor yacht manufacturers, while offering much more space, stability and range than a traditional monohull”. Thanks to the silent electric power supply, cruising will be like a breath of wind.

Whisper Yachts 50: the perfect catamaran for the tropics from Symphony Marine

  •   Nautical Expert

Whisper Yachts 50 - ideal catamarans for the tropics by Symphony Marine

Updated on February 13th, 2024

As we know, catamarans offer numerous benefits , many of which are obvious when it comes to solar power yachts. Only catamarans are able to easily carry a large area of solar panels, which do not become something foreign in terms of design, but are simply integrated into the horizontal elements of the hull and superstructures.

Guy Marshal, the founder of Symphony Marine, who has vast experience in creating and developing technological know-how with high-profile brands such as BMW, Renault, Toyota, Oceanco, Vegayachts, KuschYachts, Burger Boat and Maiora, has supported the trend in the development of electric yachts, in which catamarans are a natural and logical solution to achieve maximum efficiency and comfort.

Whisper Yachts Stern

For help in creating a new line of yachts, Guy Marshal turned to the Berret-Racoupeau Design studio, for which the design of marine architecture and interiors of catamarans is one of the core areas.

Whisper Yachts Salon

The Whisper Yachts 50 is a perfect example of what a modern family cruising electric cat should look like, affordably priced yet offering incredible comfort comparable to the luxury and space of a superyacht.

Whisper Yachts Bow

At first glance, it becomes obvious that this catamaran is ideal for southern latitudes. Circular glazing, sliding doors and windows, plenty of relaxation areas, a full-width bathing platform and the very spacious master cabin are all important nuances in a hot climate. Which, of course, does not in the least prevent you from going to explore higher latitudes.

Whisper Yachts master-cabin

We also like the design of the catamaran itself, which, admittedly, is quite rare. In the case of Whisper Yachts, it can be argued that the yacht is really beautiful and stylish. All elements look great, including the flybridge and awnings with solar panels.

whisper catamaran

And, of course, it should be noted the ease of movement around the cockpit and saloon, which is facilitated by wide aisles and a smooth level difference. The 15-meter catamaran, which has a width of 6.6 meters, makes you feel comfortable and safe even during a long stay on board in blue water.

Whisper Yachts Cockpit

What about the technical part? Well, in the basic configuration, we have two electric motors of 100 kW each, which can be temporarily increased to 120 kW. The entire system runs on Torqeedo’s Deep Blue and is powered by 200 kWh BMW batteries. All this speaks of high reliability and performance.

The cruising range at a speed of 5-6 knots is not limited. With an increase in speed to 8-9 knots, the battery charge will last for 5 hours. If you want to sail even faster, you can use a 25 kW generator. Then the speed will reach 10 knots.

Symphony Marine will present their amazing catamarans at international boat shows, so don’t miss the opportunity to explore them in more detail.

Formula Whisper, the exciting new boat that anyone can learn to foil

Matthew Sheahan

  • Matthew Sheahan
  • September 7, 2015

“If you can sail, you can foil this boat,” says the designer of the new Formula Whisper foiling catamaran. Matthew Sheahan tests out the claim

whisper catamaran

As I stepped off the Formula Whisper, our cameraman and photographer Richard Langdon was full of praise for my first attempt at flying.

“How polite,” I thought. I had been frustrated with my first attempts – it had looked so easy in the hands of her designer. But Richard was insistent: he was surprised at how readily I had been able to foil and how long I had been flying.

It wasn’t until we went through the raw video footage that I could see what he meant. Until then I hadn’t realised how much of the time we were doing exactly what her designer had claimed was possible – foiling from the off.

In just 20 minutes my perspective had changed. This was clearly not just an interesting new design, but one that could turn out to be the turning point for performance sailing. Unless you’ve mastered sailing an International Moth recently, the chances are that you have yet to try foiling. But this new production cat could change all that and bring foiling for the club sailor a step closer to reality.

A Whisper that turns heads

The Formula Whisper is an all-carbon production version of the 20ft hydrofoiling Solent Whisper prototype that did the rounds at several boat shows last winter. She turned plenty of heads at Southampton and London and attracted a great deal of interest at the Paris Boat Show – indeed, so much interest that just a few months later 27 boats had been sold to customers in six countries, from the USA to New Zealand. This, claims her builder, is only the start.

“If you can sail, you can foil this boat,” says Rob White of White Formula, a company that has a long list of internationally successful production catamarans to its name, including the Dart 18, Spitfire, Shadow, Shockwave F18, Sprint 15 and many more.

But perhaps you’d expect him to say that. A lifelong cat sailor and double world champion in the Tornado class, his sailing and industry achievements place him in a position of high authority when it comes to multihulls and production boatbuilding.

“Look at the amount of people who want to sail a Moth, but can’t. I count myself in that, too,” he declares. “The Moth is tricky to sail, while the current production foiling cats are too expensive for most people.

“We’ve been thinking about producing a foiling cat for years and there’s no question that the last America’s Cup spurred everyone on. But it was this design that impressed us and made us think that the time was right.”

White freely admits that it was not his company’s design that has led to the new production boat. The foiling cat started life as a personal project for Ron Price, who is a regular 49er sailor and a senior lecturer in naval architecture at Southampton Solent University.

“Like so many other people I was blown away by the America’s Cup foiling cats and wanted to have a go myself,” Price explains. “But it was clear that I wasn’t going to get a ride on one of those machines, so I set about designing a foiling cat of my own.”

T-foil concept

While the motivation to fly was the same, Price’s starting point was fundamentally different. Instead of using a set of L section daggerboards to provide the vertical lift, as is the case with the Cup boats and production foiling cats such as the Flying Phantom and Nacra F20, Price used the T-foil concept that is used in the International Moth.

With the Cup-style foils it is the L configuration that provides the self-levelling control for the ride height of the boat. More speed generates more lift and raises the L out of the water. As the foil breaks the surface the amount of lift is reduced and the boat finds its equilibrium. When the boat slows down, more foil is lowered into the water, increasing the lift.

Screen shot 2015-08-05 at 12.24.35

On the T-foil system, a moving flap attached to the trailing edge of the horizontal foil alters the amount of vertical lift that is generated. This flap is mechanically connected to a wand that skims the water’s surface to monitor the ride height. Too low and the flap increases the angle and hence T-foil lift, too high and the flap’s angle is reduced, which in turn reduces the lift generated.

Being able to adjust the ride height makes it easier to sail the boat in a variety of conditions. In light weather the hulls can ride high above the surface; in breezier, choppier conditions the lower ride height helps to keep the foils submerged.

The dual foil system also helps with lateral stability. Because there are two independently controlled systems on the cat, each T-foil adjusts the ride height of each hull, which helps keep the cat flat automatically.

The T-foil in each of the hulls has a flap on the trailing edge to adjust ride height. The entire daggerboard is raked fore and aft to adjust the angle of attack

The T-foil in each of the hulls has a flap on the trailing edge to adjust ride height. The entire daggerboard is raked fore and aft to adjust the angle of attack

In addition, the daggerboards can be raked back and forward to change the angle of attack of the horizontal T-foil, which in turn alters the speed at which the boat starts to lift. A high angle of attack would generate lift at slow speeds, but this would also create higher amounts of drag from the foil itself. A lower angle of attack would have the reverse effect.

The adjustment is made using a control line to wind a simple worm drive. Altering the main daggerboards means that the T-rudders do not need to be adjusted and can remain fixed.

Another advantage of the T-foil system for the daggerboards over the L section foils is that, unlike Cup foils which need to be raised and lowered during sailing, the boards have only two positions: up for launching and beaching; and down for sailing.

A smart build

Apart from the foil system there is another particularly impressive feature of this boat: her build. At 78kg all up she is supremely light thanks to her carbon sandwich-infused construction. A Tornado is the same length, but double the weight.

The standard of build and fit-out is also impressive, but the key to this boat is that her clever construction makes her very stiff.

Unlike conventional cats with aluminium crossbeams bolted to the hulls, the Formula Whisper’s beams are an integral part of the hull and deck. In simple terms she uses a biscuit tin type construction arrangement where the lid (the deck) slips over the hull (the tin).

AY7Q4611 copy

Not only is this an efficient way of building the boat, but it means that her beams can be integrated with the hulls over a greater length than normal, which in turn gives the entire structure far greater torsional strength. This is particularly important to keep the two sets of T-foils operating at the same angle of attack. However, unlike conventional cats, this type of build means that she cannot be dismantled for trailing, which limits her beam and so her overall length.

On the helm

I gripped the tiller and considered how I was going to support myself once out on the wire, given that Ron Price had taken the mainsheet (the jib is a self-tacking affair). I was also bracing myself for take-off. I imagined that our departure from the surface of the water would be marked by a surge of acceleration that could launch me off the back of the boat.

As the apparent wind built we accelerated, but there was no noise, no change of feel on the helm and certainly no bow wave, wake or spray. The sudden transition I envisaged never happened – at least that’s how it felt to me. The only disorientating aspect was windward heel as the rig came over our heads.

The transition to foiling is so smooth you hardly know you're flying

The transition to foiling is so smooth you hardly know you’re flying

For a monohull sailor well used to being dunked on my RS800 it was difficult not to respond by swinging inboard. But, as I was to witness when looking at the video later, my perception was way behind the boat’s behaviour. We had been flying well before my mind had caught up.

As Price explains, flying with the boat heeled to windward is the same technique used on Moths, which helps the T-foils to work their way to windward. It did feel odd, though, and didn’t help when I had to settle down on the wire.

By the nature of their typically slender hulls, multihulls do not create a great deal of drag, wash or bother when travelling at speed. As a result the transition to flight was always going to be smoother than a monohull sailor used to spray, noise and drama might expect.

Furthermore, whether you’re sitting in or trapezing, flying the windward hull of a conventional multihull lifts you high above the water anyway, and foiling feels no different. Little wonder, then, that to cat sailors the transition to foils is effortless and this helped to highlight how readily this design might be adopted by grassroots multihull sailors.

Having said that, smooth foiling from the off is not as easy as the experts might suggest. The light sheet loads and a neutral helm provide little feedback and when the bows pitched downwards from time to time, my mind struggled for the appropriate, instinctive response. For a second or two I was in new territory and stuck for ideas.

Getting the foil pitch settings right and making sure that both are matched will also be new areas for most sailors.

A simple line-driven worm drive adjusts the T-foil’s angle of attack

A simple line-driven worm drive adjusts the T-foil’s angle of attack

And with hulls that are just 4.2m (13ft 9in) long the fore and aft trim can be altered significantly by moving crew weight back or forwards. This affects the angle of attack of the foils significantly and I was surprised by just how much movement was required to keep the boat balanced. So while she might look like a point-and-shoot type of boat, there is plenty to learn to keep her flying straight and level. But then that’s part of the appeal. The big advantage is that you’re less likely to be dunked as you master the technique.

Simple, but it works

This is an impressive boat, not only because she can foil in a range of conditions from 5-20+ knots, but because she makes you feel so comfortable at speed. The International Moth fleet has a solid following and is attracting new sailors, but I bet few learn to fly from scratch in a weekend. With the Whisper you could.

And it is this that impresses me most. When you look back at some of the most significant steps in sailing design, it is the ease with which new technology and techniques were adopted that underwrote their success. Asymmetric spinnakers flown from retractable skiff-type bowsprits are a good example. They are simple, easy to handle and yet often provide stacks more performance, so it is hardly surprising that they have caught on.

Super-slender bows and narrow hull lines mean she’s quick in displacement mode too

Super-slender bows and narrow hull lines mean she’s quick in displacement mode too

By designer Ron Price’s own admission, the Whisper is unlikely to be the quickest foiling boat out there, but she is still capable of keeping pace with a Moth on a two-sail reach. For most of us that would easily be fast enough to scratch the itch. It is this speed and ease of handling, on a well built, high-tech, all carbon boat with a sensible price tag of £19,500 (including VAT) that looks so appealing.

But there’s something even more exciting about this boat: the hint that this could be the start of a new era of foiling. Rob White certainly thinks so, as his company is already planning a range of new foilers along similar lines.

“We are looking at both smaller and larger versions,” he says. “For the smaller boats we may well be looking at alloy foils that are less expensive to build and are more robust for beach holiday companies. These boats wouldn’t be as extreme and would fly just a foot off the water, but they would be easy for beginners to get the hang of.”

AY7Q4399 copy

The suggestion that beach resorts could have such boats is surely a good indication that foiling has taken another big step towards mainstream sailing. The Whisper is a formula for flight that could well take off.

Projects: The Whisper: the hydrofoil everyone’s shouting about

Want to try hydrofoiling without the multi-million pound price tag? The cutting-edge Whisper catamaran is making America’s Cup-style foiling more accessible than ever – and its lightweight composite construction utilising PRO-SET® Infusion epoxy is helping to make it possible.

“The very first time we took the Whisper on the water, she foiled non-stop for four minutes,” says Henry White, Director of White Formula. “You won’t get that in your average foiling yacht. She’s the only dinghy designed from the ground up to hydrofoil.”

“We knew we had something special on our hands.”

The Whisper is the brainchild of Ron Price, a yacht and powercraft designer who also lectures in Naval Architecture at Solent University. Inspired by the 2014 America’s Cup, he was determined to design a flying catamaran with an affordable price tag. “After locking himself away with his team for about a year, he came to White Formula with a prototype of the Whisper,” says Henry. “We knew we had something special on our hands.”

White Formula was the ideal choice for manufacturing the boat. Directors Thom and Henry are the sons of Tornado Olympic sailor and world champion Rob White, and grandsons of 1976 Olympic gold medal-winning sailor Reg White. So it comes as little surprise that the third-generation White Formula business has produced some legendary catamarans. “We’ve built everything from the big Apache cruising cats to the Tornado, Spitfire, Hurricane and the Shadow,” says Henry. “We could see the Whisper was a fantastic design. The only change we made was to make it a monocoque structure, rather than having beams across, to enhance the stability.”

Balanced to a T

It’s her incredible stability that makes the Whisper truly stand out from her peers. The four T-shaped foils have been innovatively designed to control the foiling height and balance the ride, stopping it from pitchpoling. What’s more her hull is carbon fibre, resulting in a weight of just 78kg.

Altogether, this stable, self-settling and lightweight design means the Whisper spends more time on the foils than off. “The average America’s Cup boat will travel faster than the Whisper but they’re not as stable; you’ll only be foiling for 50-60% of the time,” explains Henry. “Because the Whisper is so easy to handle it lets you foil for 80-90% of the time, just at a slightly slower speed. All it takes is a little practice, and you’ll be foiling at speeds of up to 25 knots.”

The best products for construction

To build such a stable foiling machine is no straightforward task. There is zero tolerance for any discrepancies in the foils or the hull, which must share stresses and work together as one. To that end, Ron Price and the White Formula team always knew epoxy infusion would give the hull the strength, stiffness and stability it demanded.

“Princess Anne came and infused it with us!”

It was an informal meeting at the London Boat Show, however, that resulted in White Formula choosing PRO-SET INF Epoxy for the task. “We were infusing the first Whisper live at the show. Princess Anne came and infused it with us!” smiles Henry. “It attracted a lot of attention, including David from West System International, who came to talk to us about what we were doing. He wasn’t at all salesy and I liked that.” Henry talked to others who had used PRO-SET Epoxy for infusion. He liked what he heard. “I was confident that infusing with PRO-SET epoxy would give the Whisper the strength and robustness she demands and I’ve not been disappointed,” says Henry.

Precision infusion

The infusion process itself is deliberately painstaking. To start, Henry applies a gel coat to a mould of the catamaran hull, before laying carbon cloth on top. A foam core is added to provide stiffness and then a final layer of carbon cloth is applied. “We then cover the whole lot in a 12m by 6m bag and apply vacuum pressure down to -1 bar,” explains Henry. “The aim is to get as much air out as possible. Even the slightest pinhole will affect how the resin infuses, so we use a sonic tester and gently inspect the bag for any air leaks or hissing. When we’re finished we leave it for 10-12 hours.”

White Formula infusion

Once as much air as possible has been drawn out, the White Formula team prepares PRO-SET INF-114 Resin® and INF-211 Hardener® for infusion . Temperature is critical at this point. “We like to ensure our mould and our epoxy are within about one degree of each other and that’s at a temperature of 22-24 o C,” explains Henry. “This ensures the mixed epoxy flows easily into the structure of the boat.”

Once the resin and hardener are mixed, it is degassed (“you’ve just spent 12 hours drawing air out of the boat, so you don’t want to reintroduce it here,” says Henry) and then piped into the bag. The positive pressure in the atmosphere pushes the epoxy into the boat. “If you’ve applied your bag correctly and there are no leaks, the pressure forces the epoxy to distribute evenly throughout the whole structure,” says Henry. “We then lock off the inlet pipes and put the boat in the oven at 28 o C for a few hours to cure it.”

Designed for the love of foiling

Another benefit of the infusion process is that it offers excellent results, fast. One year into production White Formula has built 21 Whispers. The company has another 25 on back order and production has recently been upped to three a month.

This huge demand is undoubtedly in part due to her price tag; at £21,000, she’s an impressive £15,000 less than a comparable foiling cat. But her capabilities are what truly make her stand out. “She’s designed for the pure love of foiling – to help anyone to do it. There’s no need to be an acrobat; if you can sail, then you can go foiling on the Whisper,” smiles Henry. “And it’s so much fun. On your first day, you’ll be foiling at 9-10 knots straight away. Give it another hour and you’ll end up at 25 knots.

“That’s not an experience you can enjoy with any other foiling cat on the market.”

Whisper Foiling Cat

The White Formula Whisper is the new foiling catamaran that brings foiling technology to the mainstream.

Designer Ron Price had the idea to bring an affordable flying catamaran to the world sailing scene. After watching the incredible 2014 Americas Cup upset, Ron decided if he couldn’t get a ride on one he would build his own!

Ron designed the Whisper completely on computer and modeled it using very sophisticated marine development software. Six months later he was well on his way to launching his prototype. On day one of testing the Whisper prototype foiled flawlessly for over 4 minutes without dropping off the foils.

The production moulds were completed on a 3D 6 axis CNC milling machine, and the first boats have been built and are on the publicity circuit visiting many of the worlds boat shows. The new wing style mainsail shows all the flare of a wing sail with the easy storage of a regular sail. An active foiling system constantly self adjusts to maintain steady and stable flying.

The boat is made using a cutting edge epoxy / carbon fibre infusion method, fully built in the UK and fitted out in the White Formula production facility in Essex. The Whisper comes in at a platform weight of only 78Kg. The advancements in 3D printing and laser sintering has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years, the recent application of printing Carbon Fibre has lowered the cost of manufacturing intricate moving parts. All of the internal parts of the boat are computer cut using an in-house 3 axis CNC machine. This means we can incorporate weight saving areas into the structure of the hull, lowering the overall weight.

The Whisper is a one design class, but when it comes to the styling, the sky is the limit. Our customers have had some pretty wacky ideas, so we are looking forward to a pretty interesting start line, coupled with the ability to foil in just 5 knots of wind we could see some “pretty fly styles”.

Parallel 45 Marine is proud to be the exclusive North American importer and distributor of the Whisper.

How to draft a great business plan for your beverage brand?

A good business plan for a beverage brand must be tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities of the beverage industry.

Initially, it's crucial to provide a comprehensive overview of the beverage market. This should include current statistics and an analysis of emerging trends, similar to what we've outlined in our beverage brand business plan template .

Your business plan should articulate your brand's vision clearly. Define your target market (health-conscious consumers, sports enthusiasts, busy professionals, etc.), and establish your brand's unique selling proposition (organic ingredients, energy-boosting formulas, sustainable packaging, etc.).

Market analysis is a cornerstone of your business plan. It requires a thorough examination of competitors, industry trends, and consumer preferences specific to the beverage sector.

For a beverage brand, it's imperative to detail your product lineup. Describe your range of drinks - whether they are soft drinks, energy drinks, juices, or alcoholic beverages - and explain how they cater to the tastes and needs of your intended customers.

The operational plan should outline the logistics of your beverage brand. This includes the location of your headquarters, production facilities, distribution channels, and supplier relationships for ingredients and packaging materials.

Quality control is paramount for beverages. Highlight your commitment to quality ingredients, production standards, and adherence to health and safety regulations.

Address your marketing and sales strategies comprehensively. How do you plan to build brand awareness and customer loyalty? Discuss promotional tactics, distribution strategies, and potential partnerships or sponsorships.

Incorporating digital strategies, such as a robust online presence and social media marketing, is vital for modern brands.

The financial section is a critical component. It should encompass the initial investment, projected sales, operational expenses, and the point at which the business will become profitable.

Given that the beverage industry can be highly competitive with varying margins, precise financial planning and a deep understanding of your cost structure are essential. For assistance, consider using our financial forecast for a beverage brand .

Compared to other business plans, a beverage brand must pay particular attention to factors such as the regulatory environment for food and beverages, the scalability of production, and the potential for brand extension.

A well-crafted business plan not only helps you to refine your strategies and vision but also plays a crucial role in attracting investors or securing loans.

Investors and lenders are looking for a solid market analysis, realistic financial projections, and a comprehensive understanding of the brand's day-to-day operations.

By presenting a thorough and substantiated business plan, you showcase your dedication and preparedness for the challenges of launching and growing a successful beverage brand.

To achieve these goals while maximizing efficiency, feel free to utilize our beverage brand business plan template .

Here, we will provide a concise and illustrative example of a business plan for a specific project.

This example aims to provide an overview of the essential components of a business plan. It is important to note that this version is only a summary. As it stands, this business plan is not sufficiently developed to support a profitability strategy or convince a bank to provide financing.

To be effective, the business plan should be significantly more detailed, including up-to-date market data, more persuasive arguments, a thorough market study, a three-year action plan, as well as detailed financial tables such as a projected income statement, projected balance sheet, cash flow budget, and break-even analysis.

All these elements have been thoroughly included by our experts in the business plan template they have designed for a beverage brand .

Here, we will follow the same structure as in our business plan template.

Market Opportunity

Market data and figures.

The beverage industry is a dynamic and expansive sector with significant market presence.

Recent estimates value the global non-alcoholic beverage market at over 1 trillion dollars, with projections indicating continued growth driven by consumer demand for diverse and innovative drink options.

In the United States alone, there are thousands of beverage brands, contributing to an annual revenue of approximately 200 billion dollars for the non-alcoholic segment.

These statistics underscore the beverage industry's substantial contribution to the economy and its integral role in the daily lives of consumers.

The beverage industry is witnessing a surge in health-conscious and environmentally aware consumers, leading to several emerging trends.

There is a growing preference for functional beverages that offer health benefits beyond basic nutrition, such as energy-boosting, hydration, and wellness drinks infused with vitamins, minerals, and herbal extracts.

Sustainability is becoming a priority, with a shift towards eco-friendly packaging and sourcing of ingredients, as well as the rise of plant-based and organic beverage options.

Technological advancements are influencing the sector, with innovations in beverage processing, preservation, and customization to cater to individual preferences.

Convenience is also a key factor, with ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages and subscription-based delivery services gaining popularity.

Moreover, transparency in ingredient sourcing and product labeling is increasingly important to consumers, who demand clear information about what they are drinking and where it comes from.

These trends highlight the beverage industry's adaptability and responsiveness to the evolving desires and values of modern consumers.

Success Factors

Several factors contribute to the success of a beverage brand.

Foremost is the quality and taste of the product. Beverages that offer a unique and enjoyable taste experience are more likely to cultivate a dedicated consumer following.

Innovation in flavor profiles and packaging can distinguish a brand in a crowded marketplace.

Strategic branding and marketing are essential, as a strong brand identity can foster customer loyalty and recognition.

Distribution channels are also vital; a beverage brand with wide availability in retail stores, online platforms, and food service establishments can reach a broader audience.

Exceptional customer service and engagement can enhance brand reputation and encourage repeat purchases.

Lastly, managing costs effectively while embracing sustainability practices and aligning with current health trends, such as low-sugar or functional ingredients, are crucial for a beverage brand's long-term viability and success.

The Financial Plan

Of course, the text presented below is far from sufficient to serve as a solid and credible financial analysis for a bank or potential investor. They expect specific numbers, financial statements, and charts demonstrating the profitability of your project.

All these elements are available in our business plan template for a beverage brand and our financial plan for a beverage brand .

Initial expenses for our beverage brand include the costs of developing unique beverage formulas, securing a production facility compliant with health and safety regulations, purchasing bottling and packaging equipment, sourcing high-quality ingredients, obtaining necessary certifications, and investing in brand development and marketing strategies to reach our target market effectively.

Our revenue assumptions are based on a thorough market analysis of the beverage industry, taking into account current trends in consumer preferences for healthy, innovative, and convenient drink options.

We expect our sales to grow steadily as we establish our brand in the market and expand our distribution channels.

The projected income statement outlines expected revenues from our beverage sales, cost of goods sold (including ingredients and packaging), and operating expenses (facility rent, marketing, salaries, etc.).

This will provide us with a forecasted net profit, which is essential for assessing the long-term viability of our beverage brand.

The projected balance sheet will display assets such as production equipment, inventory of ingredients and finished products, and liabilities including loans and other financial obligations.

It will offer a snapshot of the financial standing of our beverage brand at the end of each fiscal period.

Our projected cash flow statement will detail the inflows and outflows of cash, ensuring that we can predict our financial needs and maintain a healthy cash reserve to support business operations.

The projected financing plan will identify the mix of equity, loans, and other financing methods we intend to utilize to fund our initial costs and support growth.

The working capital requirement will be carefully managed to ensure we have sufficient funds to cover day-to-day expenses such as ingredient purchases, inventory stocking, and employee wages.

The break-even analysis will determine the volume of sales we need to achieve to cover all our costs and begin generating a profit, marking a critical milestone for our beverage brand's success.

Key performance indicators we will monitor include the gross profit margin on our beverages, the current ratio to evaluate our short-term financial resilience, and the return on investment to gauge the efficiency of our invested capital.

These metrics will be instrumental in assessing the financial health and success of our beverage brand.

Executive Summary for an F&B Business Plan

An executive summary is a brief overview of the main points of your business plan. It should be written last, after the rest of the plan has been completed, and should be no more than two pages long. In the executive summary for a food and beverage business, you should include the following key points:

  • Business concept: Explain what your business is, what products or services you will offer, and what makes your business unique.
  • Target market: Describe your target customers and the market you will be serving.

The executive summary serves as an introduction to your business plan, and should be written in clear, concise language that is easy for potential investors or lenders to understand.

Here is a sample executive summary for an F&B business:

Our restaurant will be owned and managed by [name], a seasoned restaurant professional with over 10 years of experience in the industry. Our team also includes a highly skilled head chef, a marketing expert, and a dedicated operations manager.

2. Products & Services Offered by Your Beverage Business.

The next step is to outline your products and services for your beverage business.

When you think about the products and services that you offer, it's helpful to ask yourself the following questions:

  • What is my business?
  • What are the products and/or services that I offer?
  • Why am I offering these particular products and/or services?
  • How do I differentiate myself from competitors with similar offerings?
  • How will I market my products and services?

You may want to do a comparison of your business plan against those of other competitors in the area, or even with online reviews. This way, you can find out what people like about them and what they don’t like, so that you can either improve upon their offerings or avoid doing so altogether.

3. Build a Creative Marketing Stratgey.

If you don't have a marketing plan for your beverage business, it's time to write one. Your marketing plan should be part of your business plan and be a roadmap to your goals.

A good marketing plan for your beverage business includes the following elements:

Target market

  • Who is your target market?
  • What do these customers have in common?
  • How many of them are there?
  • How can you best reach them with your message or product?

Customer base

  • Who are your current customers?
  • Where did they come from (i.e., referrals)?
  • How can their experience with your beverage business help make them repeat customers, consumers, visitors, subscribers, or advocates for other people in their network or industry who might also benefit from using this service, product, or brand?

Product or service description

  • How does it work, what features does it have, and what are its benefits?
  • Can anyone use this product or service regardless of age or gender?
  • Can anyone visually see themselves using this product or service?
  • How will they feel when they do so? If so, how long will the feeling last after purchasing (or trying) the product/service for the first time?

Competitive analysis

  • Which companies are competing with yours today (and why)?
  • Which ones may enter into competition with yours tomorrow if they find out about it now through word-of-mouth advertising; social media networks; friends' recommendations; etc.)
  • What specific advantages does each competitor offer over yours currently?

Marketing channels

  • Which marketing channel do you intend to leverage to attract new customers?

4. Write Your Operational Plan.

Next, you'll need to build your operational plan. This section describes the type of business you'll be running, and includes the steps involved in your operations.

In it, you should list:

  • The equipment and facilities needed
  • Who will be involved in the business (employees, contractors)
  • Financial requirements for each step
  • Milestones & KPIs
  • Location of your business
  • Zoning & permits required for the business

What equipment, supplies, or permits are needed to run a beverage business?

To run a beverage business, you will need a few key pieces of equipment, supplies, and permits. These include:

  • Beverage ingredients and equipment for production
  • Bottles or containers for the beverages
  • Labels and packaging materials
  • A permit to operate your business (depending on location)
  • Business licenses and permits for business activities (if applicable)

You may also need to hire and train staff to manage the beverage production and sales, as well as provide customer service.

5. Management & Organization of Your Beverage Business.

The second part of your beverage business plan is to develop a management and organization section.

This section will cover all of the following:

  • How many employees you need in order to run your beverage business. This should include the roles they will play (for example, one person may be responsible for managing administrative duties while another might be in charge of customer service).
  • The structure of your management team. The higher-ups like yourself should be able to delegate tasks through lower-level managers who are directly responsible for their given department (inventory and sales, etc.).
  • How you’re going to make sure that everyone on board is doing their job well. You’ll want check-ins with employees regularly so they have time to ask questions or voice concerns if needed; this also gives you time to offer support where necessary while staying informed on how things are going within individual departments too!

6. Beverage Business Startup Expenses & Captial Needed.

This section should be broken down by month and year. If you are still in the planning stage of your business, it may be helpful to estimate how much money will be needed each month until you reach profitability.

Typically, expenses for your business can be broken into a few basic categories:

Startup Costs

Startup costs are typically the first expenses you will incur when beginning an enterprise. These include legal fees, accounting expenses, and other costs associated with getting your business off the ground. The amount of money needed to start a beverage business varies based on many different variables, but below are a few different types of startup costs for a beverage business.

Running & Operating Costs

Running costs refer to ongoing expenses related directly with operating your business over time like electricity bills or salaries paid out each month. These types of expenses will vary greatly depending on multiple variables such as location, team size, utility costs, etc.

Marketing & Sales Expenses

You should include any costs associated with marketing and sales, such as advertising and promotions, website design or maintenance. Also, consider any additional expenses that may be incurred if you decide to launch a new product or service line. For example, if your beverage business has an existing website that needs an upgrade in order to sell more products or services, then this should be listed here.

7. Financial Plan & Projections

A financial plan is an important part of any business plan, as it outlines how the business will generate revenue and profit, and how it will use that profit to grow and sustain itself. To devise a financial plan for your beverage business, you will need to consider a number of factors, including your start-up costs, operating costs, projected revenue, and expenses.

Here are some steps you can follow to devise a financial plan for your beverage business plan:

  • Determine your start-up costs: This will include the cost of purchasing or leasing the space where you will operate your business, as well as the cost of buying or leasing any equipment or supplies that you need to start the business.
  • Estimate your operating costs: Operating costs will include utilities, such as electricity, gas, and water, as well as labor costs for employees, if any, and the cost of purchasing any materials or supplies that you will need to run your business.
  • Project your revenue: To project your revenue, you will need to consider the number of customers you expect to have and the average amount they will spend on each visit. You can use this information to estimate how much money you will make from selling your products or services.
  • Estimate your expenses: In addition to your operating costs, you will need to consider other expenses, such as insurance, marketing, and maintenance. You will also need to set aside money for taxes and other fees.
  • Create a budget: Once you have estimated your start-up costs, operating costs, revenue, and expenses, you can use this information to create a budget for your business. This will help you to see how much money you will need to start the business, and how much profit you can expect to make.
  • Develop a plan for using your profit: Finally, you will need to decide how you will use your profit to grow and sustain your business. This might include investing in new equipment, expanding the business, or saving for a rainy day.

The template to create a comprehensive beverage business plan in 7 steps

Planning the beverage company plan is not difficult if you have the available template. Let’s carry out a comprehensive beverage plan with 7 steps below.

Step 1: Executive Summary

In terms of length, the executive summary should be no more than one page. Although it appears on the first page of your beverage business plan, you had better write this section last, after you get the most precise understanding of your beverage business model.

Looking at the details:

It describes the summary of your business idea. They are recommended to consist of your business concepts and business model. Besides, you also need to state your main product lines with their target customer respectively.

As a result, the client of your business plan can obtain a short introduction that contain essential information about your company.

And one more, don’t forget to provide your company overview including location, found year and facilities.

Step 2: Beverage Industry Overview

The industry overview provides you the opportunity to express your knowledge about the beverage business. By getting a summary of your company field and identifying your position in the market, your company can easily find the vacancy to attack and earn more profit.

Apart from many valuable chances, you can acknowledge your threats and weaknesses for some needed modifications.

beverage industry development

Step 3: Overview of your beverage business

After completing the beverage industry’s summary, you should continue building your company business plan by clarifying yourself.  Investigating the company objectives, future achievements, and SWOT analysis are unmissed parts to identify your current position in the beverage market.

Business History

This room will deserve the personal story about your beverage business, from start to present. It should be flexible in selecting the worthy information of yours.

If you are a senior in the beverage industry, focusing on experience and case studies is the best idea.

However, it’s not suitable once being a junior.

In this case, you prefer to introduce your enthusiastic team members and their passion for the industry to push up the partner’s truth. Another part is the startup summary, which has a specific number of loans, investments, assets and expenses.

It is no doubt that exploring the beverage company history is the fastest way to gain the first image of one company in terms of development and level of credibility.

Objectives, mission, and vision

The objective I want to mention here is also called the goal of your beverage business. It should be measurable and specific as much as possible. Remarkably, there are three inevitable categories in a sufficient objective. They are sales revenue, profit margin and net profit together with detailed goal numbers or percentages.

Here, the mission is to inform your customers what your company’s value proposition is and what you bring to your customer.

Last but not least, at this point, the vision statement is also essential. A company cannot move forward without a clarified vision. It will report your aspiration in the future by identifying one particular position in the beverage industry. Becoming top 10 of your region’s most significant beverage business is not an impaired vision after a 10-year running business.

SWOT analysis

It is a general subjective study about all the internal and external factors that affect the development of your beverage company. Thanks to this research, you can identify your position in the market, focusing not only on growing the available advantages but also on some actions to improve disadvantages.

  • Internal factors: strengths and weaknesses
  • External factors: opportunities and threats

swot analysis

Ownership Structure

Your customers and partners will look for some information like this: who is the owner of this beverage business, or Are there any outstanding stakeholders or other people involved? Besides, the impacts of them as well.

Step 4: Beverage Products

From this stage of company business plan templates, it will exploit into deeper about what you publish to the market by giving specific product features. Stating this information can improve the customer’s engagement by understanding your drink and its benefits.

Product description

This category is the room for describing your beverage product features, and providing the necessary information about your drink. In this way, clients will be aware that your product can solve their problems effectively in the most optimal way. Product description needs to make up the good ingredients, various flavors and multiple benefits of your drink.

As a result, your beverage brings customers closer to the company.

The competitive advantage of your product

Among a vast number of beverage portfolios, competitive advantage plays a crucial role in retaining and developing your product position in the market. It makes you different and outstanding from others.

To be more specific, your beverage will be published to market at a lower price than your rivals. These factors allow you to improve a productive entity for generating more sales revenue and a superior profit margin.

Sales Literature

Sale Literature states the method that you intend to use for raising the sales volume. It can be advertising, doing marketing or republic relationships with your customer community. You should be concerned about some common channels: leaflets, flyers, social media, newspapers, or advertising.

Holding a drink in their hands, the customers must have no idea about manufacturing and other production processes behind them. They’re raising doubt of the beverage’s quality.

To blow out this problem, your company needs to public more information about the sources of your products, illustrating they are clear and original with high quality from the beginning.

Future product

Once your beverage products have developed to a certain level, building a plan for your drink is necessary to upscale your business. Apart from broadening the market, adding more flavors is another best choice.

For example, if you are distributing fruit juice , why don’t you try to jump into the  fruit milk  segment, which has the similarity in target customers and product’s characteristics as well.

If preparing carefully for the future, your drink can get higher opportunities to lead the game, be active with the new changes and establish an intense basement for the development of your beverage company.

beverage product is essential in any plan

Step 5: Marketing Strategy

Marketing will capture customers’ attention, raising their awareness of the unique benefits that your beverage brings to them. Therefore, when building the marketing strategy, you are required to describe the detail of your target market segments, your competition and your system with milestones to complete.

Here are some critical topics that unmissed in marketing strategy:

  • Target customer profile analysis : identify your customers. Who are they? You can make a typical avatar for each group of clients according to their demographic, geographic, sociological and behavioral basement.
  • The positioning strategy : here, you need to make clear the USP (unique selling point) of your beverage and answer the question: Why should they buy your products? Why is it unique?
  • Marketing objectives and goals : statement of specific expected results.
  • The marketing mix (4P: People, Product, Promotion, Place).
  • Promotional plan : bring financial or non-financial gifts for customers.
  • Communication planning : internal and external communication with your customers and partners.
  • Evaluation and adjustment : look back and take action if needed.

Step 6: Operational Plan

Have you wondered:

“Company business plans are strategic. The operational plan is daily activities. How do they relate to each other?”

The operating plan is simply daily activities to ensure the effective running business, including manufacturing and managing. Thereby, it actually becomes more accessible when following an available plan, which will provide the most transparent picture of how your business works and the involvement of human resources.

  • Human Resource Plan : To ensure the effectiveness of daily work, you need resources, and humans are one of the essential elements contributing to your success. The number of employees, their experts and the distribution of what work should be done are the necessary basic needs.
  • Supply and Inventory Management : Who are your suppliers? Do you buy the raw materials and produce them by yourself or purchase the market-ready products and deliver them to the final customers? What are the payment terms? Where will you store your product?
  • Production and Distribution : You’d better inform the volume and distribution channels with regulations to ensure quality and quantity.

operational plan in beverage business

Step 7: Financial Planning

With this part, you need to call for help from an accountant in your beverage company. Financial planning consists of at least three years worth of financial statements, the cash flow, and balance sheet accuracy.

In particular, financial planning tells the clients about the developing situation of your beverage company, seeing the gradual growth, stability or negative earnings.  We want to finance growth mainly through cash flow.

We recognized that this means we will have to grow slowly. The most important indicator is to control and minimize inventory that will have to be stored.

Friendly note : Here are seven common steps in building a beverage company business plan. Remember that DO NOT skip any step since each piece is essential. However, you should make some appropriate changes in each stage, focus on your orientation and modify your specific beverage business situation flexibly to gain the best application.

They were all surprised with various flavors, low-calorie count with rich nutrients of her drink. After that, MK beverage products were officially published to the market and develop day by day up to now.

For the time being, there is a trend in the beverage industry with the booming demand for non-alcoholic beverages, especially in two regions: Europe and North America.

Honestly, what was the most noticeable?

According to the statistics of 2020, the health beverage demand in Europe made up 30% of the total non-alcoholic beverages assumption. FreshSip Juicery’s competitors include the following companies:

Sun & Soil Health Company offers a wide variety of organic juices, smoothies, and health shots, focusing on using locally sourced and organic ingredients. Their products are priced at a premium, reflecting the quality and sourcing of their ingredients. The company operates multiple locations within the Sacramento area, targeting health-conscious consumers looking for organic and sustainable options. Their key strengths include a strong commitment to sustainability and community involvement, which resonates well with their customer base. However, their premium pricing can be a barrier for more price-sensitive customers, making it a weakness in attracting a broader audience.

Vibe Health Bar also serves as a significant competitor, offering a diverse menu that includes acai bowls, smoothies, juices, and vegan eats. They position themselves in the market with competitive pricing and a focus on health and wellness. Vibe Health Bar operates several locations across Sacramento, catering to individuals seeking nutritious, fast-casual dining options. Their strengths lie in their extensive menu that appeals to various dietary preferences and the integration of superfoods into their offerings. A potential weakness is the intense competition in the fast-casual segment, requiring continuous innovation and marketing efforts to maintain customer interest and loyalty.

Cap City Squeeze Juice Bar is known for its wide selection of fresh juices, smoothies, and wellness shots, aimed at providing quick and healthy options to its customers. Their pricing strategy is competitive, offering value for money with an emphasis on quality and freshness. The juice bar has a strategic presence in Sacramento, targeting busy professionals and health-conscious individuals looking for convenient nutrition solutions. A key strength of Cap City Squeeze is their focus on convenience, with locations strategically placed to serve their target customer segments effectively. However, a potential weakness could be the challenge of differentiating themselves in a crowded market, where consumers have numerous options for juice and smoothie bars.

At FreshSip Juicery, we pride ourselves on delivering an unparalleled experience that goes beyond just serving drinks and smoothies. Our commitment to quality ensures that every sip is not only refreshing but also superior in taste to our competition. We understand that variety is the spice of life, which is why our menu boasts a more extensive array of flavors, juices, and bowls than any other juice bar in the area. Each ingredient is carefully selected to ensure the highest level of freshness and nutritional value, making our offerings not just delicious but also beneficial for health. This dedication to excellence in both taste and variety positions us as a leading choice for those seeking a premium juice bar experience.

Moreover, our competitive edge is further sharpened by our innovative approach to customer service and engagement. We recognize the importance of a personalized experience, which is why our staff is trained to not just serve but also to educate our customers on the benefits of each ingredient we use. This interactive approach not only enriches the customer experience but also fosters a sense of community and loyalty towards our brand. Additionally, we stay ahead of industry trends by continually updating our menu with new and exciting offerings, ensuring that our customers always have something new to look forward to. By combining superior product quality with a dynamic and engaging customer service model, FreshSip Juicery sets itself apart as a leader in the juice bar industry.

Our marketing plan, included below, details our products/services, pricing and promotions plan.

FreshSip Juicery emerges as a vibrant spot for health enthusiasts and juice lovers, offering a variety of refreshing and nutritious beverages and bowls designed to cater to a wide range of tastes and dietary needs. At the heart of their menu are the freshly squeezed juices, which are made to order using the finest, locally sourced fruits and vegetables. Customers can expect to pay an average of $7 for a medium-sized drink, which is a testament to the juicery’s commitment to affordability without compromising on quality. These juices are perfect for those looking for a quick vitamin boost or a refreshing drink to go.

For those in search of a more filling option, the smoothies at FreshSip Juicery provide a delicious solution. Blended with real fruit and other natural ingredients like yogurt or almond milk, these smoothies are both nourishing and satisfying. With prices averaging around $8 for a generous serving, customers can enjoy a variety of flavors, tailored to suit their personal taste or nutritional goals, making it a popular choice for breakfast or a post-workout meal.

The cold-pressed juices represent another highlight of the menu, offering a longer shelf life and a method that retains more nutrients and enzymes than traditional juicing methods. Priced at about $9 per bottle, these juices are an excellent option for those looking to stock up on their juice fix or seeking a more intense nutrient intake. The meticulous cold-press process ensures that each bottle is packed with pure, concentrated goodness.

For customers interested in a detox or health kick, the juice cleanses from FreshSip Juicery offer a structured way to reset the body. With a range of options available, from one-day refreshers to more extended cleanse plans, prices start at $45 per day. These cleanses are designed to provide a balanced intake of nutrients while giving the digestive system a break, and they come with guidance and support to help customers through their cleansing journey.

Last but not least, the acai bowls are a delightful treat, bursting with antioxidants and served chilled. Starting at $10, these bowls are topped with a variety of fresh fruits, granola, and other superfoods, offering a balanced meal that’s both delicious and visually appealing. The acai bowls are a favorite among customers looking for a nutrient-dense meal that satisfies the sweet tooth without the guilt.

In summary, FreshSip Juicery caters to a diverse clientele with its wide range of products, prioritizing freshness, quality, and nutritional value. With the U.S. senior population expected to reach 80 million by 2040 , the demand for assisted living services is skyrocketing.

Seniors are living longer, and many are looking for amenities like health care, fitness, and recreation services as they age. This surge in demand, plus consistently high occupancy rates in well-run facilities, means starting an assisted living facility or improving your existing facility can be an incredibly lucrative business venture.

However, achieving success requires more than just filling rooms. From ensuring the health and wellbeing of your residents, to navigating license and permitting requirements, to understanding your market to securing funding for your facility, you’ll need to think strategically to ensure your care facility reaches its full financial potential.

A business plan organizes your market, customer, and competitive research, so you can prioritize the most profitable services and develop marketing strategies to attract the right residents. Think of it as your roadmap for defining a successful business model. It’s the type of proof of concept that lenders or investors will need to see before they’ll feel comfortable funding your venture .

  • What should you include in an assisted living business plan?

Here are a few sections we recommend including in an assisted living facility business plan:

Executive summary

Market analysis, competitive analysis, marketing plan, financial plan.

No two assisted living business plans will be exactly alike. A residential assisted living business owner’s market research and growth strategy will vary depending on the market or markets they’re operating in. And while some assisted living developers own large portfolios of facilities in multiple locations, others may be focused on a single location.

If you’re starting a new assisted living business, it’s likely that you’re seeking a bank loan or outside investment. Business plans written for funding typically follow a detailed and proven structure to impress lenders and potential investors.

Below we’ll highlight some of the most important business plan sections for an assisted living business.

Your executive summary is your facility’s elevator pitch.

It’s the first, and sometimes only, section of your business plan that a lender or investor will read. So your executive summary needs to be engaging.

In no more than two pages, draw the reader in with an overview of your business opportunity and mission. Why are you passionate about serving seniors? What problems are you solving for residents and their families?

Describe what sets you apart. Maybe you’re opening a new facility in a location with pristine views and landscaping. Or maybe you’re offering innovative care programs.

Briefly mention your team’s qualifications and commitment to resident care. Touch on the factors that will be key to your success, such as hiring highly trained staff or introducing programs tailored to residents’ needs.

With significant startup costs to run an assisted living facility, it’s crucial that you understand both the broader senior living industry and the dynamics in your market. The market analysis section is where you show potential funders of your project that you’ve done your research.

Get to know your potential residents. Start by analyzing the size and projected growth of the senior population in your area. The U.S. Census Bureau is an excellent source of demographic information, and should include the age breakdown of your community.

It’s also important to determine the characteristics of your potential residents. Are you targeting:

  • Active seniors seeking independent living with some support
  • Seniors dealing with, or recovering from, surgeries or other medical issues
  • Seniors with memory care and other intensive needs

You may be targeting a combination of these services in your assisted living project. But no matter who your ideal customers are, you need to demonstrate through your study of industry and demographics trends that there is a demand for the services you’re offering.

Identifying your competition is crucial if you’re planning an assisted living facility. A lender or investor will expect your business plan to analyze your facility’s competitors, and demonstrate that there’s room in the market for a new entrant.

Start by researching and listing your competitors. These could be:

  • Other licensed assisted living facilities
  • Independent living communities
  • Adult foster homes
  • In-home caregiving services

Note their size, services offered, and any specializations they offer. What are their strengths and weaknesses? Are they large chains or smaller, family-owned facilities?

Consider factors like:

  • Level of care

Be honest about your facility’s strengths and weaknesses compared to the competition. Do you offer a unique activity program? Are your rooms more spacious?  Focus on what sets you apart.

Answering these questions will help you determine how to stand out and win over potential residents and their families.

Remember: Solid research is key. Back up your assumptions about your target market and competition with data and analysis. This shows potential investors and partners that you have a strong grasp of the assisted living landscape.

By the end of your competitive analysis, you should be able to state why a family would choose you over your competitors.

This is where you turn your market and competitive research into an actionable plan to attract residents to your facility.

By now, you should have plenty of information about the senior living market in your area. Now it’s time to document how you’ll reach families seeking senior care services for their loved ones.

Start by thinking broadly about tactics to reach your target customers:

  • Networking with healthcare providers and elder care professionals to spread awareness of your facility
  • Advertising online, through television commercials, in printed publications and on social media
  • Appearing at community events

Each of these strategies accomplish the goal of boosting your visibility. Make sure your messaging through these marketing channels emphasizes the factors that set your business apart from competitors. They might include:

  • A focus on personalized care
  • Top-of-the-line amenities
  • A vibrant social calendar

Additionally, spend some time in your marketing plan to discuss your pricing and sales process. Document your pricing and how it compares to your competition. And detail how you will turn prospects into residents. Will families tour in-person? Can they schedule virtual consultations? The plan should detail the entire journey prospects will experience, from initial awareness of your facility to moving in.

Finally, remember to track the results of your marketing efforts. This helps you refine your strategy and get the most out of your marketing budget.

This section is where your careful planning turns into actual numbers . While it might seem intimidating, don’t worry – you don’t need a finance degree to get this right. Here’s what a typical assisted living financial plan includes:

Sales forecast : Project occupancy rates and income from resident services. Be realistic, especially in the first year, and consider different pricing tiers if applicable.

Expense budget : List all planned spending, including:

  • Staffing (one of your largest costs)
  • Food, maintenance, and supplies
  • Insurance, marketing, and licensing fees
  • Legal and professional services

Profit & Loss (P&L) : This combines income and expenses to show if you’re profitable.

Cash flow statement : Crucial for managing bills. Shows when money comes in and out, so you avoid cash shortages.

Balance sheet : This snapshots your facility’s financial health, listing assets (like your building), liabilities (like loans), and overall equity.

Important notes

Startup costs : If seeking funding, detail costs like renovations, equipment, and initial staffing.

Assumptions: Be transparent about any predictions you’re making (occupancy rates, growth, etc.). This adds credibility.

Use of funds: Explain to potential investors exactly how their money will fuel your success.

Industry-specific costs: Research sample financials for assisted living facilities to ensure you cover all your bases.

Remember, your financial plan is a living document. Revisit it regularly to track your progress and adjust your strategy as needed.

With tons of opportunity, but significant upfront costs, it’s crucial to do your homework before investing funds in your assisted living plan. Writing a business plan is one of the best ways to put yourself on a path to a financially viable business.

And the business plan is an absolute must if you’re looking for outside funding to help you turn your dream into a reality.

catamarans over 50 feet for sale

Better sailing.

Best Catamarans Over 50 Feet

Best Catamarans Over 50 Feet

All kinds of high-end luxury sailing you could ever imagine can be experienced on Catamarans Over 50 Feet. It just depends on the boat at hand. Why spend your holiday cruising or liveaboard on a monohull when comfortable catamarans exist?

A catamaran is quite different from a regular monohull. Catamarans are typically designed with two equal-sized hulls and derive their stability from their wide beam; unlike a one-hulled boat deriving stability from a loaded undersurface.

The average catamaran is 38-47 feet in size. Usually, they are equipped with four large cabins with double or queen-sized beds, each cabin having an in-suite head. These vessels, originally designed for fishing, have, over the years, evolved and have become very popular in recent years. Lately, many boatbuilders are focusing more and more on building large catamarans over 50 feet as more and more people are starting to liveaboard and put more emphasis on comfort and luxury than their sailing performance.

In 2011, the biggest catamaran ever was built by Pendennis Shipyard in the UK, at 145 feet in length! It is equipped with a trampoline, a jacuzzi and can accommodate 12 guests in 5 cabins. This boat is designed to accommodate all the luxuries and adornments that can be found on a watercraft.

Here are the best sailing catamarans over 50 feet, in no particular order.

Length: 50 Feet

Price: From $500k to $1.5 Million USD On the Used Market

Back in 2019, the Lagoon 50 was awarded the best multihull of Sail Magazine. A product of the world’s largest boat manufacturer Lagoon, established in 1984, is majorly famous for the design and construction of cruising catamarans, which infuse top-notch designs, upscale comfort, and great sailing performances to one’s boating experience. Every detail is carefully thought out to establish novel and spacious architecture with a homely ambiance.

It’s a perfect balance between the model Lagoon 450 and the lofty 52. The Lagoon 50 has an encompassing view, generous volumes with a self-tacking jib, and a shorter mast for easily simplified maneuvers. It has two cockpits, one large one facing the sea and the other for seating at foredeck or on a deck chair. The hulls being large enough to contain more than 2 cabins, you can have up to six cabins. Italian agency Nauto Design Studio set a standard for their innovative interior designs every time. This vessel boasts of a unique brand signature, providing increased performance and a detailed wood finish to be fitted for the owner. Unconventional lines are linked with luxury, versatility, and a layout of technical options to cater to everyone’s needs.

Length: 52 Feet

Looking for something contemporary and luxurious? Lagoon 52 takes the cake in that way. This boat signified a new stage in the design of cruising catamarans. The Lagoon 52 is a product of the prolonged conversations between Lagoon’s customary VPLP, Nauto design agency, and the Lagoon design department. It comes in two versions: The Lagoon 52 FlyBridge, known as Lagoon 52F, and Lagoon 52 SporTop.

The combination of onboard comfort with its sailing performance is perfect and in sync. The wide side decks allow easy movement onboard. The cockpit and saloon also offer spacious living areas. The vertical bows of the boat have a diamond-shaped appearance with diagonal shaped hull and a lifting deck house.

The boat is easily accessible and safe thanks to the open rear skirts. Most of the features in this luxurious watercraft can be found in the aforementioned Lagoon 50. It has a perfect blend for its easy use, a comfy, elegant interior, amazing space, and lighting. You’re sure to get your money’s worth with the LAGOON 52.

Lagoon 52

Privilege Series 5

Price: Around $1-1.5 Million USD

At 50 feet, this boat is quite marvelous and a privilege to spend your time in as a cruiser or owner. The Privilège Series 5 is the world’s first 50 feet sailing catamaran. This vessel was built by Privilège Marine, a French company based in Les Sables-d’Olonne, France. They are famous for building premium luxury catamarans and designed by French Naval Architect Marc Lombard. The Privilège Series 5 is equipped with three or four double and a full-sized owner’s cabin located in the yacht’s center. It’s a lightweight boat at 48500 pounds and could go up to 52900 depending on the size.

It has great customization options, and it can be designed to suit the boat owner’s taste. The attention to detail on the boat is nothing short of perfection as the interior design, woodwork, safety measurements laid out by the boat’s design, aesthetics, ventilation, etc., was thought out good. The vessel’s finishing is really phenomenal as everything has a high level of craftsmanship.

Privilege Series 5

Leopard 50L

Length: 50 Ft 6 In

Price: Around $1 Million USD

The Leopard 48, which was launched in 2012, was one of the most popular cruising cats ever designed. But the design was beginning to become dated, even as new orders kept coming in. So, Robertson & Caine, who build the Leopard cats, set out to improve on what was already great. The new 50 was their answer and comes with many innovations that will make owners happy. We test sailed the 50L last winter in Florida. The L version has the optional lounge on top of the hardtop over the cockpit. Unlike some cats with flying bridges and lounges up high, the 50L doesn’t feel like a layer wedding cake.

The steering station is a traditional raised helm to starboard, and the lounge is just up a few stairs from there. The helmsman is in contact with those in the main cockpit and those in the lounge. Out sailing, we got the 50L up to 10 knots in a good breeze, so the boat is fast. It is also commodious and will make a very comfortable home for a family or a charter party.

Length: 58 Feet

Leopard 58 is a superb layout from Leopard, skilfully modeled by award-winning designers Robertson & Caine. This extravagant catamaran is suited to the prolific and innovative catamarans that have made Leopard famous while still giving out fresh features and various design options.

This expansive FlyBridge takes space to a whole new dimension as it is larger than its siblings with their award-winning aspects. A Flybridge is basically a version of catamarans that affords you the luxury of outdoor space, come rain or shine. Leopard 58 is more about space, bragging about 750 square feet in just the saloon alone. It gives you amazing comfort and is naturally luminous. With an open plan layout, the galley available means the meal making and interaction will be easy. Highly recommended for a family outdoor gathering.

Leopard 58 - Best Catamaran Over 50 Feet

Popularly called the Seawind 52 because of its 52 feet size. The Seawind 52′ 1600 is designed by world-renowned architects Reichel Pugh. Like the Lagoon 52, it’s a perfect balance for onboard comfort and performance sailing and sea safety. Perfect for sailors or boat lovers who are looking for a little extra.

This catamaran sets a standard for offshore sailing because of its simple sailing methods, large open cockpit space, and twin protected helms. Equipped with a three or four-cabin design that affords the owner’s cabin expansive living space, great storage, high aspect riders, daggerboards, an elegant fit/finish, and infused carbon-reinforced construction.

Seawind 1600

Price: Around $1 Million USD New

The new Seawind 1600 has been in the works for a while and has finally arrived on the market. The Reichel Pugh design is a departure from the more conservative looks of the other Seawinds and embraces a very Euro-style with plumb bows, hard chines, a swept-back cabin, and a large open cockpit with helm stations on both sides. The boat is a pure performance cruiser that was conceived as a blue water voyaging boat for a family. At 52 feet, it falls within the size range that an experienced couple can handle, so it would make a great platform for a couple to explore the world. The 1600 like all of the Seawinds and Corsairs, are built in Vietnam.

Nautitech 542

Length: 54 Feet

Price: Around $1.2 Million USD New

Nautitech 542 is the typical example of offshore meeting first class. This boat has ideally tweaked fittings for smooth sailing under any circumstances. Furnished with a single wheel on its roof for perfect views of the boat and a comfy 2-person seat. The idea of this boat is mostly based on performance and quality. Asides from the positions of the helm, Nautitech 541 and 542 are very similar. Nautitech 542 is large and luxurious. The sail controls at the helm stations for easy sailing maneuvers and perfect for all weather conditions. The interior was designed by French designer Franck Darnet. Equipped with state of the art furniture and cabin experience, a sleek experience is assured.

Xquisite X5

Length: 51 Feet

Price: Around $1.5 Million USD

Once you have met your first Xquisite X5, you will never forget its absolute distinctive looks and almost space-traveling styling. The whole look of the boat, with its large reverse curving arches and cat’s eye windows, says right out loud that you need to pay attention. The boat itself is a very modern design with a classic and comfortable interior. It sails better than most of its peers in the 50-foot range and is set up cleverly so one watchstander can hand, reef, and steer all from the protected comfort of the raised steering station. Tomas and Sara, who build the boats in South Africa, are veteran cruisers and owned hull number one of the X5 line before taking over the company. Their attention to detail and the innovations they have incorporated into the boats all stem from their time living aboard and blue water sailing.

Privilege 615

Length: 61 Feet

Price: From $800k to $1.3 Million USD on the Used Market

When it comes to onboard luxury, Marc Lombard, who designed this catamaran, is an expert in that field. This lovely boat is in touch with the latest style, sporting a flybridge complete with two wheels and a broad sunbed suitable for the crew to relax the day away. The 615 is a combination of simplistic and superior design with an outstanding crew, results in the ultimate luxury Caribbean cruising experience. The impeccable elegance of the interior with a lavish owner’s suite and the boat’s perfect wood quality are two great reasons to make you get the boat. The freedom to choose a four or five-double cabin is another, depending on the size of the family.

Followed closely by its outstanding exterior, you’re sure to fall in love with it on sight, from the cockpit to the foredeck. With an impressive platform and lustrous profile, the Privilède 615 contradicts the volume and versatility of its interior. One wonders how they fit into the other, gives it a great ambiance.

Balance 526

Length: 52ft 6in

Price: From $1.3 to $1.6 Million USD New

Multihull impresario, dealer, and broker Phil Berman (The Multihull Company) has sold more multihulls over the last 30 years than just about anyone. His latest project has been the development of the Balance line of performance cruising cats. The queen of the line is the Balance 526 that was introduced a few years ago and has proven to be a very successful player in the 50-foot plus segment of the cat market. Built in South Africa by noted composite experts, the 526 offers a well-conceived combination of great sailing performance and luxury living in a boat that can be handled by an experienced couple.

The boat has plenty of innovations, among them a helm that can be tilted up so you can steer from the raised helm station or tilted down so you can steer from the protection of the cockpit. Very cool. The design does not take any particular element to the “extreme.” Instead, Berman and his crew have sought to provide a boat that is truly well balanced in all aspects. And, they’ve done it.

From the large cabins, saloon, galley, and sail performance, the 620 is one boat you’d get a memorable experience on. As you can understand, this is a great catamaran over 50 feet to use as a liveaboard.

Sunreef 62 - Luxury Catamaran

Outremer 5X

Length: 69 Feet

Price: From $1.3 to $1.8 Million USD on the Used Market

The Outremer 5X is unlike any other in the yacht market as it is fast, sturdy, but luxurious all at the same time. Also, it possesses finely finished cabinetwork, spacious accommodations, and an excellent payload carrying ability. Modeled great agility to make even a single person handle any maneuver, its retractable high aspect ratio daggerboards assure a shallower drift giving access to the most remote of harbors.

When it comes to the interior, every Outremer model is trying to outdo the last in elegance, neatness, and modernity. She offers an unrestricted view and functional comfort. The port hull suite includes a king-sized bed, superb sea view portlight, an office, and a separate private entrance from the rear. It’s a semi-custom interior designed by VPLP in conjunction with Patrick le Quement. It won the ‘European Yacht of the Year’ and Cruising World’s ‘Boat of the Year’ in 2013 and 2014. This catamaran is as affordable as a luxury catamaran over 50 feet can get. Beautiful isn’t she?

Length: 51 Feet

Price: From $450k to $550k On the Used Market

Aimed at Blue-water sailors looking to sail fast and far, Switch 51 has proved itself and regarded in this day as a remarkable ocean cruising catamaran. This classic high-performance voyage was designed by VPLP and is said to combine a level of comfort, performance, and safety. It was built by Sud Composites in France with high tech materials. Sud initially built about 18 of these classic catamarans from 2001 to 2007.

Switch 51 hulls are built with vinyl ester sandwiched with a Klegecelle PVC foam core, thereby creating a hull light enough to be real quick and heavy enough to handle the ocean waves and swells. The saloon and galley are huge, with the cockpit spacious. The layout and accommodation are perfect for a small family with classic amenities aimed at making your stay on board a memorable one. This also a pretty affordable option in this category with prices on the used market as low as 450k.

We take pride in our happy customers

Your team delivered on every mark. You’ve got an amazing broker in Mark Wattrus and I’m confident you will have continued success moving forward together. He was available 24/7 whenever I had questions. We had a great initial visit on the boat and his marketing plan and photos were superb

I bought a yacht that I had never seen. I did this because I trusted my broker Andrew Holland. It was not an easy job for Andrew, as I am an experienced boat builder and owner of previous yachts, but work in West Africa. Imagine how hard it was to communicate what I was looking for. Andrew came up with exactly what I wanted. He dealt with time delays, all my questions at odd hours, and was there for the survey. He reported honestly and professionally. After buying the yacht, I arrived at the boat on a Sunday night, after dark, after travelling from West Africa to the Caribbean, and found it was better than expected. He never pulled punches and made me aware of shortfalls. I expected to spend my one month leave working on the boat, but actually spent less than one week, and was able to spend 3 weeks sailing – wonderful bonus.

Thank you Andrew for putting up with all my questions, all my worries and all my crazy out of the time zone concerns – you were totally professional, but also I know that if and when we meet up, it will be like a friend finally meeting. You are always welcome on Aseka.

— Beverly Cory

Outstanding company with professional subject matter experts. If I were to buy or sell cruising sailboat, particularly a catamaran, Andrew would be my go to broker.

I have been sailing since I was a child and attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy. But when my wife and I began the process of purchasing an ocean cruising/racing catamaran, I realized that this is a world unto itself. Obviously, we needed to find someone knowledgeable to help us make an informed decision. More importantly, we needed someone honest and willing to put our interests before his or her own. I was lucky to work with Phil Berman at The Multihull Company. He repeatedly shunned the fast buck, choosing instead to work the long road to connect us with the “perfect boat”. I would be glad to recommend Phil and his company to anyone planning to purchase or sell a performance sailing machine.

— Eric Boutiette

Andrew Hodgdon was our broker when we bought our 2018 Lagoon 450F in Antigua in April 2922. He provided great service and was very attentive to our needs. We would highly recommend Andrew and the Multihull Company.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.
