‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2’ Reportedly Gets Brand-New Title

in Movies & TV

Paul Rudd, Logan Kim, and McKenna Grace looking at old footage in 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife'

While the upcoming sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) was recently pushed back until March next year, that hasn’t stopped the Ecto Containment Unit over at Sony Pictures from unleashing plenty of news over the past year.

From casting to snippets of the film’s synopsis, and filming locations to the return of legacy characters , we’ve had our fair share of details around the new movie. We also know that it will continue the Spengler family story, this time taking place in New York City instead of Summerville, Oklahoma.

We also know that it stars the Afterlife ensemble, McKenna Grace (Phoebe), Logan Kim (Podcast), Celeste O’Connor (Lucky), Finn Wolfhard (Trevor), Carrie Coon (Callie), Annie Potts (Janine Melnitz), Paul Rudd (Gary Grooberson), William Atherton (Walter Peck), and original Ghostbusters Bill Murray (Peter Venkman), Dan Aykroyd (Ray Stantz), and Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore).

Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind have been cast in undisclosed roles.

Earlier this year, we also got to see the official poster, which shows the iconic Ghostbusters logo covered in ice , which suggests that the sequel could be a Christmas movie  in which New York City is perhaps about to get frozen over by some supernatural entity.

Tackling the Christmas movie genre would certainly be an interesting approach for a film in this series. While the debate as to whether or not Ghostbusters II (1989) is a Christmas movie continues, it’s time the franchise cashed in on the season of goodwill.

After all, the recent DLC (downloadable) content for the asymmetrical multiplayer game Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed (2022) goes all in for Halloween by bringing back the iconic villain Samhain from the animated series The Real Ghostbusters (1986 — 1991).

On the other hand, it might be a little disappointing if the upcoming sequel is a festive flick, as it’s missed its initial December release.

Now, some new information suggests that Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 (2024) may indeed be a Christmas movie, as the title is rumored to have been leaked. The working title for the film is Ghostbusters: Firehouse , and though it’s possible it may keep that name when it’s released in theaters next year, rumor has it that it’s now called Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire .

This certainly aligns with the frozen logo, while “Empire” likely pertains to the Empire State Building, or New York City being the “Empire State,” or perhaps even an “empire” of supernatural beings (maybe all three).

According to Kino Check , the rumor started from an alleged “insider” on X (formerly known as Twitter). The Wikipedia page for the film now also shows the title Frozen Empire above the poster. But this title is only a rumor at present. It should be noted that Sony Pictures has not confirmed anything.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 releases in theaters on March 29, 2024. It follows Ghostbusters (1984), Ghostbusters II , and Afterlife . Ghostbusters: Answer the Call (2016) takes place in a separate continuity (although the upcoming film will officially be connected to the reboot ).

If the new film tampers with the Ghostbusters Multiverse, which has been explored many times in IDW Publishing’s comic book series, it’s possible characters from the reboot will appear .

The new film is directed by Gil Kenan and stars McKenna Grace (Phoebe), Logan Kim (Podcast), Celeste O’Connor (Lucky), Finn Wolfhard (Trevor), Carrie Coon (Callie), Annie Potts (Janine Melnitz), Paul Rudd (Gary Grooberson), William Atherton (Walter Peck), Bill Murray (Peter Venkman), Dan Aykroyd (Ray Stantz), Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore), Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Funko Pops Unveil First Look at Main Villain

Posted: January 5, 2024 | Last updated: January 6, 2024

Sony Pictures’ highly-anticipated Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire finally received its very own Funko Pop! Figures, teasing the introduction of two new characters.

First reported by Bloody Disgusting, Sony Pictures provided a preview of the returning franchise characters in Funko Pop! forms, including Dan Aykroyd’s Ray Stantz and Mckenna Grace’s Phoebe Spengler. In addition, the new Funko Pop! Ghostbusters toy line also featured two new ghosts/creatures, Pukey and Garraka. The latter is expected to serve as the fifth installment’s main villain, who is likely the one that will bring the ice age to New York City. Fans have already gotten a glimpse at Garraka in the sequel’s first trailer , where it briefly appeared as a tall horned monster. Besides Pukey and Garraka, Funko Pop! also confirmed the return of fan-favorite mini Stay Pufts from 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife .

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Teases Slimers Return

In a previous interview with Empire , writer-director Gil Kenan opened up about the all-new threat that the titular team will have to face, explaining how it was thrilling to introduce a new villain to the Ghostbusters franchise . "Because the Spengler family story drove the narrative in Afterlife , bringing Gozer back to center-stage was a natural way to close the book on the past," Kenan said. "But we are now in the post-Gozerian era of the Ghostbusters saga, so that means we’re able to stretch out and create an entirely new mythology. And that’s thrilling as a storyteller, because there are all-new and terrifying stakes with fresh visual references to draw on."

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will feature the return of Afterlife cast members Carrie Coon as Callie Spengler, McKenna Grace as Phoebe Spengler, Finn Wolfhard as Trevor Spengler, Paul Rudd as Gary Grooberson, and Celeste O’Connor as Lucky Domingo. They will once again be joined by franchise veterans Aykroyd as Ray Stantz, Bill Murray as Peter Venkman, and Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore. The sequel will also include new characters played by Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind.

Leslie Jones Reflects on Toxic Trolling Over Ghostbusters Reboot Casting

Ghostbusters: frozen empire is inspired by animated series.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will bring the franchise back to the iconic New York City firehouse, where the original Ghostbusters developed a secret lab. After accidentally unleashing an ancient evil, the old and new generations of Ghostbusters unite to save the world. Kumail previously revealed that the fifth installment was inspired by the original animated series, titled The Real Ghostbusters , which ran on-air for seven seasons from 1986 to 1991. "That show was a point of reference for this movie," the Eternals star said. "The filmmakers wanted to make a long episode of the animated series. So if you love that show as I do, be excited."

In addition to the upcoming Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire , Sony Pictures has also partnered up with Netflix to develop an untitled animated spinoff series . The project hails from Afterlife director Jason Reitman and Kenan, who are executive producing for Ghost Corps. At the time of writing, further details about its plot and characters have not yet been revealed.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire arrives in theaters on March 29.

10 Most Breathtaking Locations In Marvel's Spider-Man

Exploring New York in Marvel's Spider-Man is one of the most enjoyable things you can do. These scenic locations stick out.

Marvel's Spider-Man is considered by many as one of the greatest superhero titles of all time , and for good reason. Insomniac's work on Sunset Overdrive made them the frontrunners to develop a title that would use movement as a fun mechanic to form one of the core pillars of gameplay, and Marvel's Spider-Man certainly fits the bill in that regard.

RELATED:  Spider-Man PS4: 5 Ways It's The Best Spider-Man Game Of All-Time (& 5 Why It’s Spider-Man 2)

Of course, it's not just the movement mechanics that make the act of swinging around in Marvel's Spider-Man all that worthwhile — one should definitely give due props to the beautiful locations of the game, which compel people to swing around a faithful recreation of New York and take a long — and pleasing — gander at all the amazing landmarks that lie therein.

Keeping this in mind, here are ten of the best locations in Marvel's Spider-Man that are a visual treat in every way.

10 Ghostbusters Firehouse

Iconic landmarks are abundant in Marvel's Spider-Man , and people who manage to recognize most of the easter eggs that Insomniac has thrown in this title are bound to be pleased with their findings.

One such notable easter egg comes in the form of the Ghostbusters Firehouse, which can be seen once the player heads northwest from the Financial District's Police Department. People who noticed this building without any prompts were bound to be quite satisfied with the overall experience.

9 Sanctum Sanctorum

Doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum is a pretty iconic mansion in the Marvel Universe, and people were more than happy to witness the brilliance of this area firsthand when the interiors of this area was shown in the first Doctor Strange movie and multiple other instances post this reveal.

Given Spider-Man 's ties with Marvel, people were definitely expecting the Sanctum Sanctorum to make an appearance in the game... and it did! Players need to head to the south-eastern side of Greenwich to witness the magnificence of this building firsthand.

8 Central Park

Central Park is an iconic landmark of New York City that has been synonymous with this area for quite some time, and it goes without saying that any Spider-Man game that strives to recreate the city of New York has always made the creation of this area a priority.

RELATED:  Every Boss In Marvel's Spider-Man, Ranked

So, it goes without saying that people who end up navigating this area in Marvel's Spider-Man would be more than happy with navigating Central Park and witnessing how the park has been recreated for themselves.

7 Empire State Building

Speaking of iconic landmarks in New York City, one can't fail to mention the glorious Empire State Building as well — something that has been recreated quite faithfully in Marvel's Spider-Man too!

Heading to the top of this building and swan-diving before swinging at the very last second is a moment that never feels old or tiring in Marvel's Spider-Man , making for a timeless experience that has been faithfully recreated in most Spider-Man games  — barring a few exceptions — time and time again.

6 Avengers Tower

There's another building in Marvel's Spider-Man that is pretty tall and allows the player to dive in spectacularly cinematic fashion... and that building is none other than the patented Avengers Tower.

Taking a picture of this building and having Spider-Man talk at length about the history of this building is an awe-inspiring moment that most Marvel fans wouldn't be forgetting anytime soon.

5 Chrysler Building

Another iconic part of New York City's landscape that most people would instantly recognize is the Chrysler Building, and witnessing this tall structure in Marvel's Spider-Man is quite alluring.

So, it goes without saying that any player who decides to cross this building would definitely feel the urge to climb up this building as quickly as possible and perch upon the very top in a manner that would feel pretty cool indeed.

4 Oscorp Building

Norman Osborn ends up being a jerk in this game as well, pretty much setting the record straight as being despicable every time he's appeared in any piece of Spider-Man media.

That being said, one has to admit that swinging around that going to the very top of the Oscorp building is still a blast that no person playing Marvel's Spider-Man would want to miss out on.

3 Wakandan Embassy

While most casual fans might find it hard to even recognize the Wakandan Embassy, long-time fans of Marvel would be more than happy with discovering this area in the game.

RELATED:  5 Reasons Spider-Man PS4 Is The Best Superhero Game (& 5 Why It's Batman: Arkham City)

The Wakandan Embassy is situated in the eastern area of Midtown. Players will recognize the place once they look at the lion's head that decorates the entrance to the embassy, coupled with two red-and-green flags.

2 Hell's Kitchen

While most of the easter eggs present in Marvel's Spider-Man are spread out all over the map, the iconic area of Hell's Kitchen ends up being such a noteworthy and packed area in the game that it deserves a shout of its own.

Pretty much everything iconic through either Daredevil and Jessica Jones is present in this area. Nelson & Murdock's offices, Alias Investigations, Josie’s bar, and Fogwell's Gym are all present in various parts of Hell's Kitchen for the player to encounter firsthand.

1 Insomniac Games Studio

Of course, given the stellar work that Insomniac Games have put into Marvel's Spider-Man , it's only right that they deserve to have a shout-out — regardless of how muted it might be — in their own game, at the very least.

This studio is next to another landmark, the Rand Corporation — a reference to Iron Fist — and is located in the northern part of Midtown. The fact that the building number used by the building in-game is the same as the one in real life — 2255 — is a neat little touch as well.

Photos show what the iconic locations in 'Elf' look life in real life

  • I've lived in New York City for over a year, and I've been to many of the spots where the movie "Elf" was filmed.
  • Most of the locations shown in the 2003 film look the same today, like the Empire State Building and Central Park.
  • Gimbels, where Buddy (the elf the movie is about) works, used to be a real department store in NYC, but it closed in the '80s; the Textile Building was used as the exterior of Gimbels in the movie instead.

Insider Today

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the movie "Elf."

Every December, my brother and I watch "Elf" together. Then, we spend the whole year referencing its many hilarious bits to one another whenever they are relevant.

Now that I live in New York City, where my favorite holiday movie was filmed, I've passed through many of the film's iconic locations from Rockefeller Center to Central Park.

But while you can visit some of the sites from the movie, I've found that they don't all look like they do in the film.

"Elf" is my all-time favorite Christmas movie.

ghostbusters empire state building

The 2003 film stars Will Ferrell as Buddy, an adult who grew up in the North Pole among Santa and elves. Buddy thinks he's an elf too until he leaves the North Pole to find his human father, Walter Hobbs, played by James Caan.

Buddy finds his father, who is initially reluctant to care for him, in New York City. While Buddy explores the city, gets to know his family, and falls in love with a lady, Santa struggles to prepare for Christmas Eve. His sleigh runs primarily on Christmas spirit, a source of fuel that the world is running low on.

Santa ends up crashing in Central Park while trying to deliver gifts, and Buddy gets the chance to act as his elf by helping him with the sleigh. Meanwhile, Buddy's new loved ones help Santa by bringing the Christmas spirit to Central Park through song. And together, they all save Christmas.

I live in New York City, and I've been to the film's many iconic locations.

ghostbusters empire state building

Much of the film takes place around Central Park, where Buddy's dad lives, and the Empire State Building, where Buddy's dad works.

It also features other iconic locations like Rockefeller Center, and seemingly random ones, like the 23rd Street subway entrance east of Broadway.

Iconic spots and unforgettable moments in the film were shot in the middle of Manhattan, from the Flatiron Building to Central Park.

ghostbusters empire state building

The film is depicted in Manhattan, one of New York City's five boroughs.

When Buddy gets to New York, he finds his father at the Empire State Building.

ghostbusters empire state building

In the movie, Walter Hobbs works for a publishing company inside the Empire State Building.

The real-life lobby is pretty much identical, except there aren't always Christmas trees inside.

ghostbusters empire state building

The lobby has the same mural in real life as it does in the film.

Just a couple blocks away from the Empire State Building is the building that was used as the exterior of Gimbels.

ghostbusters empire state building

Gimbels, the store where Buddy meets his love interest, Jovie (played by Zooey Deschanel) used to be a real department store in Manhattan's Herald Square.

The store opened in 1910, becoming a competitor to the nearby Macy's flagship store (which opened in 1902), according to the Chicago Tribune.  That rivalry came to an end when Gimbels closed in 1986, The New York Times reported .

In real life, the Textile Building is stripped of the Gimbels logo and holiday decor.

ghostbusters empire state building

Manhattan's Textile Building was used as the exterior shot for Gimbels in the movie, according to the IMDb page for "Elf." CGI was used to transform the building's facade into a Christmas wonderland for the film, its IMDb page says.

It takes about seven minutes to walk from the Textile Building to the subway entrance where Buddy ate stale globs of gum he picked from beneath the railing.

Although Santa told him not to, Buddy can't resist the sweet temptation of chewed gum he finds beneath a subway entrance railing at East 23rd Street. Buddy eats all kinds of sugary foods throughout the movie thanks to his sweet tooth.

In real life, it's the uptown and Queens entrance to the East 23rd Street subway station next to Broadway, and it looks just like it does in the film, minus the gum. Yes, I checked.

I'm thrilled to report that I found no gum underneath this particular railing.

About three miles north of the subway entrance, you'll find the building where Buddy's family lives: 55 Central Park West.

ghostbusters empire state building

Walter Hobbs lives in 55 Central Park West with his wife Emily, played by Mary Steenburgen, and his son Michael, played by Daniel Tay. Buddy moves in with them.

Unlike Gimbels, this building looks just like it does in the film in real life.

ghostbusters empire state building

The building was also Spook Central in the film "Ghostbusters," where the Ghostbusters' first client lived.

Central Park is across the street from the apartment building. The park is massive, but the bridge featured in the scene of the snowball fight is very close by.

Buddy and Michael bond through a snowball fight as they charge underneath a bridge. It was the Pine Bank Bridge, according to Movie-Locations.com . The bridge is in Central Park West next to Umpire Rock.

Aside from the snow, this area looks the same as it does in the film.

ghostbusters empire state building

There are many arches and bridges in Central Park West, but I found this to be the prettiest one in the area. It's the one I'd pick to use in a film.

A couple miles south of Central Park West, Rockefeller Center's skating rink is where Buddy and his love interest Jovie kiss for the first time.

ghostbusters empire state building

Buddy has a romantic evening with Jovie where they explore New York City's Christmas decor in department store windows and try some of Buddy's favorite activities, like running around inside revolving doors. They end up at the ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center.

The scene looked similar in 2019 around Christmastime, but the rink appeared less crowded in the movie.

ghostbusters empire state building

In reality, visiting Rockefeller Center is an ordeal. Without a VIP ticket, massive lines can take hours. I've never skated the rink, but every time I've gone to the area in December, it has been incredibly crowded, making it less romantic than it appears in the film.

Aside from the crowds and CGI additions, all the iconic locations from the 2003 film hold up in modern-day New York City.

ghostbusters empire state building

I'll have to take my brother on this "Elf" tour of New York City next time he visits.

  • What all the iconic locations in 'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York' are like in real life
  • I visited Salem to tour iconic locations from 'Hocus Pocus' and they looked exactly like they did in the movie
  • The Rockefeller Christmas tree always looks like a hot mess when it arrives, and photos from years past prove it

Ghostbusters Yule Log video lets fans celebrate the holiday season with Slimer

  • December 22, 2023

ghostbusters empire state building

The official Ghostbusters YouTube channel has gifted fans a special treat this holiday season, releasing yet another themed Yule Log video, this time centered around next year’s highly anticipated sequel, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire .

Set inside the Ghostbuster Firehouse, the six-hour-long feature is centered around the returning Slimer, who’s first shown cozying up in front of the fireplace, spotted reading a copy of the Manhattan Adventurers Society . Of course, it doesn’t take long for the full roaming vapor to get the munchies, occasionally floating across the screen indulging in popcorn, cheesies, and Christmas tree cookies.

It’s chilly out there. Come get toasty by our Slimer Yule Log, just in time for the #holidays ! 🔥❄️👀 See Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire in theaters March 29, 2024.

Fans will instantly notice several Easter eggs, including a mounted Terror Dog head positioned above the fireplace, a crew photo celebrating the wrap of Frozen Empire , and symmetrical book stacking, with among our favorite entries being Parabotany: A Beginner’s Guide and the New York Public Library’s Patience & Fortitude . Watching further shows the Death Chill’s appearance, flying literature, and a ringing telephone, signifying something strange in the neighborhood! As hinted at, this isn’t the inaugural appearance of a Ghostbusters -themed Yule Log video. Previously, an adorable yet mischievous Mini-Puft was roasted as part of the holiday promotion for Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Rounding back to Frozen Empire , Sony Pictures released a new film poster earlier this week, which sets the stage for a chilling battle as the Ghostbusters attempt to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.

International posters would soon follow that kept the overall tone and spectral threat present, with the first swapping the Manhattan Bridge for the Brooklyn Bridge and another that features the Empire State Building.

New Ghostly Foes Come Out to Haunt in ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ Funko Pops

The Ghostbusters return to theaters in March.

The Big Picture

  • Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a highly anticipated horror comedy sequel set to release on March 29, 2024.
  • The Funko Pop line for Frozen Empire has been unveiled, featuring new and returning characters, including the main villain Garraka and other ghosts.
  • The film follows the Ghostbusters as they face their toughest challenge yet, with a star-studded cast and an expanded Ghostbusters universe.

There are so many exciting blockbusters to look forward to in 2024 . If you’re into horror comedies, then Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is definitely on your watch list . The sequel to 2021’s modest hit revival Ghostbusters: Afterlife haunts theaters this March, which means marketing for the film is heating up. Now, with just a couple of months till the film’s release, collectors are being treated to their first look at Frozen Empire ’s line of Funko Pops , as first reported by Bloody Disgusting .

The five new Pops start out with two generations of Ghostbusters. Phoebe ( Mckenna Grace ) represents the new era of the paranormal team, while Ray Stantz ( Dan Aykroyd ) is one fourth of the returning original team . However, what makes this collection spooky fun are the ghouls. The first wave of Pops not only confirm returning faces like the mini-State Puft Marshmallow men , but they also confirm the main villain's name. The horned demon seen in the trailer, along with all the previous marketing, is called Garraka and the event he puts New York City through is called the "Death Chill” . This evil entity will even come alongside other fresh ghosts like Pucky . The name explains it all, but this might be a new ghost in the same comedic family as Slimer who’s also making a comeback in Frozen Empire .

What’s 'Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ About?

Frozen Empire picks up with Afterlife’ s post credit scene that saw the Ghostbusters return to NYC . Egon Spengler’s family has also joined to take busting to the next level. Expanding the technology of the Ghostbusters universe, both old and new members are in for their toughest challenge yet when a new threat (Garraka) freezes all of New York in a second ice age . With a star-studded cast which includes Aykroyd, Bill Murray , Ernie Hudson , Paul Rudd , Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coons , Frozen Empire looks to be the grandest adventure yet. Feeding into the new youthful energy brought on by the wonderful Afterlife , it feels like it combines the classic Ghostbusters style with the cartoonish fun that expanded the universe in the 80s series The Real Ghostbusters . Whatever the case may be. it’s the 40th anniversary of the series and there’s no better way to celebrate Ghostbusters than with a new film.

When Does ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ Release?

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire chills out theaters on March 29, 2024 . Until then, you can answer the call by previewing the Funko Pop line above and watching Frozen Empire ’s trailer below. The original Ghostbusters is also currently streaming on Hulu.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

When the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second ice age.

Paramount Pics’ marketing team has been working overtime (hope they get a free ‘I saw Scream VI first!’ bumper sticker as a bonus, at least!?) on the latest Scream offering – every day there seems to be a new trailer or clip released, a new piece of art on social media, or a one-sheet released. If Scream VI doesn’t hit big this weekend then this Fruit-phobic food lover will eat a Big Apple (geddit!? cos it’s set in New York… Okay..). All estimates project the film opening big, so no worries about drink’s night celebration being cancelled at the end of the week, Paramount staffers!

The latest bit of promo material features the cast of the Radio Silence helmed-produced ‘requel’ elevator-ing up to the top of the Empire State Building – if only to remind folks that this Scream film does NOT takes place in series staple Woodsboro but in Manhattan. Should make for a refreshingly different movie!

Here’s the cast, looking divine in clothes they hopefully didn’t have to give back at the end of the day, promoting Scream VI !

Tips and Tricks

Step by step.

Wondering how to assemble a 3D Jigsaw Puzzle? Here’s a quick overview of what it’s all about!

Separate out your 3D puzzle pieces into many piles, for instance, by colour and design. We know you can’t wait to start assembling your puzzle, and sorting will get you there faster, since it makes the rest so much easier! Red-dotted pieces are not part of the puzzle, but should be kept for now ( find out why ).

Let the fun begin! Piece those piles into flat sections, just like a regular jigsaw puzzle. See? It’s easy! When you’re done, some flat sections will have smooth edges and others square teeth. This is normal (and don’t worry it’ll all make sense in the next step!).

Now you’re ready to get those flat surfaces standing up together! How? Well, don’t look at us! Check your puzzle instructions. If you find black-and-white a tad bland, check out  fancier and colourful instructions for your 3D puzzle here .
