New Attractions for 2019!

Magic likes to hide, you see, it likes to slither around in the shadows. It's easier for it to survive in the dark and damp places that we don't go. Where the sunlight can't break through. But make no mistake...if you manage to cut your way deep enough into that brush and muck, you'll find it. You see, magic doesn't go looking for trouble. It waits for it, and then it strikes. But the magic isn't what you should be afraid of...its the people who control it. It's the things that they can do with it...what they can do to the animals...to the very trees that surround them. But mostly, it's what they can do to you. I wouldn't go looking for that sickened magic. But if you do...prepare to be HEXED.

We all know that the government has secrets, but some secrets are darker than others. Hidden behind chain-link fences and locked in deep bunkers lie things that should never see the light of day. “Facility Q” is no exception. Every few days, buses from the local asylum pass through the gates and then come back out...empty. But tonight, something is different. Something is very wrong. The floodlights are out and the gates are open. Now is the time to get answers. Something evil is happening inside that place...and it's time to find out what it is. But it won't be easy, and it certainly won't be safe. How badly do you want the truth? How much are you willing to sacrifice to breach the QUARANTINE?

The Wretched

It is up to you and your team to investigate what is going on in this community. You will have to traverse the evil McCoy House and the fog-filled swamp, and be sure to ask the store owners what they know as well. It’s up to you to figure out what is happening in this wretched town. Will you find the resurrected matriarch of a murderous cult? Has the curse been lifted? Will you find an impoverished community sickened by contaminated swamp water? Or will you find an army of colossal bloodthirsty animals? Find out this October and walk amongst The WRETCHED.

haunted house near kingsland georgia

Deep in the rural woods of Canton lies a crevice in the earth. It’s crossed by a wooden bridge illuminated by a flickering lantern. Those who are brave enough to cross the bridge onto the fabled McCoy property all notice a stifling absence, a sensation of absolute dread in the air that would leave one almost breathless. It was air that could almost be touched, like a silent, sinister electricity. It was the presence of something ancient, something evil. If you choose to venture forth through the sodden, fruitless wood you’ll find the McCoy’s dilapidated home. There will be no cars, no mailbox, and no signs of human activity. However if you were to look in the window, you might notice the flickering of several candles. Maybe you will see the dark wicker and twig sigils resting by the fireplace. Legend has it that the land the McCoy house was built on was tainted by a tragedy that took place many years ago, and that Esther McCoy, the matriarch of the family was a witch who would harness the remaining dark energy to offer blood sacrifices, keeping her youthful. School children would often sing nursery rhymes about her, and their parents would warn them about the dangers of playing in the woods alone, telling how Esther McCoy would stuff them with hay and turn their skin into a scarecrow. Truthfully, nobody really knew for sure. Whenever someone went into the woods and didn’t come back, they knew who or what was responsible. There wasn’t anything anyone could do except to warn their children and pray that the woods and the McCoys wouldn’t take them. What we do know is Esther is not alone in that house. She bore no children of her own—her family is “adopted,” so to speak. Every September, there are several disappearances of young men and women. Either kids who were challenged to step foot on the property or some who just vanished from their beds. Your mission is to rescue the missing children from Esther McCoy, a possibly supernatural being. Stay quiet and be on your toes. It has been said that these kids have become quite loyal to Esther. You may not see her, but she will most definitely see and smell you. Travel through her humble home with great caution. End the fear. End the tragedy. End the SUFFERING.

The Best Haunted Attractions in Georgia!

haunted house near kingsland georgia

Georgia’s abundance of haunted houses can help you celebrate the scariest day of the year properly. Throughout the state you’ll find spooky attractions that bring your deepest, darkest fears to life. From pitch-black houses of zombies and ghouls to macabre scenes, there’s no better way to get in the Halloween spirit than a frightfully good scare. These are the best haunted houses in Georgia to visit this 2024 Halloween season.  For they are the stuff nightmares are made of—enter if you dare!

Paranoia Haunted House, Canton, GA

Take your pick between the inhuman lab-experiment-turned-lethal or the urban legend of a house whose visitors never come out. Either one is certain to be a fright to remember. You may be looking over your shoulder for days after, hoping that something didn’t follow you home!

Netherworld Haunted House, Stone Mountain, GA

Coming straight from the depths of the underworld, this fantastical haunted attraction is pure nightmare fuel. The special effects, props, and scenery here rival that of a Hollywood horror movie, giving you the creeps at every angle. Once you enter, the only way out is to walk through the entire house, If you make it that far, consider yourself lucky.

Zombie Farms, Winterville, GA

This attraction is a highly anticipated one each year because they keep it fresh and thrilling with new features each season. This half-mile walk through the woods is anything but relaxing. The entire journey will keep you on edge, wondering what’s going to pop out of the trees next.

Scarehouse of the South, Gillis Springs, GA

Warning: this haunted attraction is designed to push you to your absolute limits, and will have you questioning how much fear you’re truly capable of handling. The line between the living and the dead is quickly obscured in each of the four unique themes. It’s bloody, it’s gory, it’s violent, and it’s the perfect way to test your horror movie survival skills.

Nightmare’s Gate, Douglasville, GA

Get ready to live through your very own horror movie—will you be the hero or the victim? The haunts here are a little more lifelike than you might be comfortable with. Most folks take about 30 to 45 minutes to see themselves outside of Nightmare Gate and back into the real world, that is, if they make it out at all. This one isn’t for the faint of heart.

Lake Joy Trail of Terrors, Kathleen, GA

This haunted trail gets better each year, with new themes and new features for a completely different experience every Halloween season. This trail offers an extra experience that puts you in the middle of the action. It lives up to its name, and will have you screaming for more.

Camp Blood, Carrollton, GA

Having attracted celebrities from the horror niche, Camp Blood has earned itself plenty of notoriety as being one of the best haunts in the state. Look closely and you might see yourself among the likes of several familiar Hollywood faces, including cast members from “the Walking Dead” and even Leatherface himself. Be warned—this isn’t one you want to venture into alone!

Containment Haunted House, Lithia Springs, GA

Anyone can jump out of a haunted house and scare people, but it takes true talent to create a personalized spooky experience for all who wander through the doors. Containment has mastered the art of the “personal scare” and makes you feel as though the creepers lurking within have been waiting just for you. Can you face your fears to see the light of day once more?

Haunted Houses in Georgia: 9 Must-See Paranormal Hotspots

Karen is a freelance writer with more than 25 years of experience writing for an array of publications, including authoring several books.

Learn about our Editorial Policy .

Georgia is steeped in the history of the deep south, and it is home to some of America's most haunted cities. So it's no surprise, then, that you'll find plenty of haunted houses here as well. Some have been converted to inns and museums, but all are steeped in the legends and lore of a good, old-fashioned Georgia haunting. Some remain private residences, while others are places you can visit in hopes of encountering a ghost.

Kehoe House

William Kehoe House , now a Savannah bed and breakfast, is one of the more famous haunted houses in Georgia. The history behind this house is not filled with negative emotional upheaval and dreadful violence. The Kehoes were a God-fearing family who, despite their relative wealth, remained down-to-earth. Although some of their children died in infancy, this was more to do with the tragic conditions of childbirth at the time.

The family history is fairly innocuous, but the house itself still provides many tales of visitations and supernatural occurrences. William Kehoe himself is said to haunt the house, particularly his old study room, while the presence of Annie Kehoe, his wife, and the ghosts of some of their children are also believed to make themselves known. In contrast to a lot of hauntings this particular case is one of the more positive ones, with the spirits of the Kehoes said to be friendly and curious, rather than horrific and frightening. Stay there if you're looking for a friendly ghost encounter.

Forsythe Park Inn

Located in Savannah, the Forsythe Park Inn was a home owned by Aaron and Lois Churchill. They resided there with their adopted daughter, Lottie. Lois took in her younger sister Anna, who was ill. Lottie caught Anna and Aaron in a romantic embrace and decided to stop that relationship dead in its tracks. To accomplish this, Lottie decided to poison the tea being served in the afternoon. Anna choked and died on the poisoned concoction while Lottie confessed her deed to Lois. Lois told Lottie that Anna was actually her real mother. Unfortunately, Lottie was driven insane on the spot, and ended up spending the rest of her life in a mental institution. It is believed that the child-like laughter that can be heard all hours at this home is that of Lottie. You're welcome to check in, and you may encounter some who have never completely checked out.

Wayne-Gordon House

Located in Savannah, the Wayne-Gordon House was home to Willie and Nelly Gordon. Willie and Nelly were the parents of Juliette Gordon, founder of the Girl Scouts. They had been married for many years when Willie died. However, the love affair didn't end in death. The evening Nelly passed away, several family members reported seeing Willie's ghost appear and enter Nelly's bedroom. Shortly afterwards, Nelly died. Everyone who was at the house on the evening of his visit believed that Willie had returned to bring his wife over to the other side. The house is located at 10 10 East Oglethorpe Avenue in Savannah. The house may be available for guided public tours .

Pirate's House

Of all the real haunted houses in Georgia, Pirate's House is possibly one of the most stereotypical of haunted dwellings. Built in 1753 in Savannah, the house, now an inn and restaurant , has all the historical features that one would expect from a haunted site, including pirates, sailors, violent drunks, and much tension and strife.

Manifestations that have been reported on this particular site range from the sound of ghostly laughter to poltergeist style activity such as objects violently flying around without human intervention. Pirate's House continues to be one of the most incident-packed paranormal sites in Georgia, and can be visited by people who are curious about the manifestations, as well as those who are just looking for a delicious bite to eat.

Olde Pink House

This Savannah home, now a restaurant , is host to several manifestations including the apparition of James Habersham, the original owner, who appears to staff at the house between the months of October and March. There are also several mischievous entities that like to play pranks on unsuspecting patrons of The Olde Pink House. The restaurant is located at 23 Abercorn Street in Savannah.

Panola Hall

Located in Eatonton, Panola Hall is private home haunted by the ghost of a young woman named Sylvia. Although no one knows the ghost's real name, the home's owners gave her one. Sylvia has a reputation for being a snob and only reveals herself to people described as her equal in social class. People who have seen her describe her as wearing a white hoop-skirt dress and a red damask rose in her hair.

Hampton-Lillibridge House

This Savannah house is considered one of the most haunted locations in the city. It is probably best known as the Mercer House, owned by Jim Williams from the book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil . Mr. Williams died in this home in 1990. Many paranormal events have been documented here, including a ghostly gray-haired man appearing, footsteps in the upper floors when no one was upstairs and screams at night. In 1963, an exorcism was performed in order to rid the house of these spirits. The house is frequently featured on ghost tours of the city.

Thomas-Carithers House, Athens

An Athens sorority house, the Thomas-Carithers House is also known as the "wedding cake house." It is located on Milledge Avenue just off campus of the University of Georgia. Currently, the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority is using the home. In 1979, a girl from this sorority committed suicide when her boyfriend broke off their engagement. Girls who live in the same room reportedly become engaged also. The ghost of the departed girl frequently appears walking the hallways near her old room. It's not open to the public.

Warren House

Located in Jonesboro, the Warren House first served as a Confederate hospital during the Civil War, and then as Union headquarters towards the end of the war. People have reported seeing a Confederate soldier holding a candle in the windows at night, and there is a blood stain in the attic that can't be cleaned. The cemetery across the street is also reported to be haunted. The house is now an event venue, so if you're looking for a haunted place to hold a party, this could be just the ticket.

Georgia's Historic Haunted Houses

With a rich history, Georgia is a state ripe for hauntings. Perhaps that's why so many homeowners of historical houses relay spooky tales of things that go bump in the night.
