The Virgin Islands offers some incredible restaurants and bars.  The island offers traditional American food, restaurants, and fast food locations, but it also offers an assortment of Caribbean dishes that mix culture with regional influences. Some of the local favorites are Fish and Fungi, Johnny Cakes, Callaloo, (soup or stew), Conch Fritters, Pates, and Rotis. Tap & Still is a local brewery that serves burgers, booze, breakfast and beer. The brewery was started as an attraction for cruise ship passengers but has become so much more.

Tap & Still is a local brewery where guests can watch the craft beer being made while sipping on their own cold brew and then enjoy a meal of burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, wings, or breakfast food as they try the various local brew flavors.

Hooman Pedram is the owner of three Tap & Still restaurants and Chicken & Bowling. He wanted to start a distillery as an attraction for cruise ship passengers but found his business ventures took much of his time. Meanwhile, the Brugos brothers, Joe and John, were operating Virgin Islands Craft Distillers, a small-batch distillery in the Gregorie East Marina on St. Thomas, handcrafting vodka, rum and gin. They brought in a fourth partner, Mario Austin, a local rental car franchise owner, to form Rock City Brewing Company within the Tap & Still site in Havensight Mall.

The Old Stone Farm House Restaurant is an award-winning, fine dining restaurant set in a 200-year old, restored plantation field house overlooking the lush countryside of St. Thomas.

The once 300-acre plantation stretched from Magen’s bay to Mandahl. More than two centuries ago the Old Stone Farmhouse was the core of a Danish sugar plantation at Estate Lovendahl. The graceful arches, two- foot-thick walls, and majestic rafters are reminiscent of St. Thomas during the days of the flourishing Clipper Ship trade, sugar plantations on lush rolling hills, and the aristocratic mansions of prosperous merchants. ​

Today this magnificently converted farm building is considered one of the best examples of classic West Indian architecture on the island.

Island Transportation

One of the best ways to get around in the U.S. Virgin Islands is by water! In fact, St. Thomas is one of the busiest cruise ports in the Caribbean. Another popular form of transportation is in a car–either renting your own or taking a taxi. In fact, because U.S. Virgin Islands are part of the United States, you don’t need a special driving permit, just a valid U.S. driver’s license. Keep in mind the roads are often narrow, winding, and steep.

If you prefer another form of transportation, you can always take public transportation to popular tourist spots, or go for an adventure with helicopter transportation or a seaplane ride to travel between islands!

The History of St. Thomas

Saint Thomas is the territorial capital of the Virgin Islands, located in the Caribbean Sea. It is an unincorporated territory of the United States and within its 32 square miles holds almost 50 percent of the U.S. Virgin Islands population.

The Virgin Islands became part of the United States in 1917 when it was purchased for $25 million in gold. The purchase was made as a strategic move during World War I to maintain control over the Caribbean and Panama Canal. Post-war has seen a rise in tourism to the main islands including St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John–making it an attractive location for businesses

LUNA offers charters in the US Virgin Islands (USVI) and British Virgin Islands (BVI). We are based out of St Thomas and Tortola.

For charters in the USVI, you fly to St Thomas (airport code is STT). For charters in the BVI, you can either fly to Tortola (airport code is EIS) or fly to St Thomas and take a scenic 45-minute ferry ride or private water taxi to Tortola.

The charters are all-inclusive. The rate includes private use of the yacht, professional crew consisting of captain and private chef, all your meals (breakfasts, lunches, and dinners), ship’s bar which includes alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, all running expenses (diesel, gas, water, etc.), and the use of onboard water toys. It excludes crew gratuity. You can find more information about what is included and excluded in the rates section.

Virgin Islands Yacht Charters directly manages the charter fleet.  We are not a broker.  We do work with many reputable and trustworthy charter brokers who regularly book our boats and are familiar with our procedures and knowledgeable of the local cruising grounds.  At the same time, there are many brokers out there who know absolutely nothing about our fleet OR even the Virgin Islands themselves.  Please be aware. 

Catamarans are wonderfully spacious and provide ample area for moving around.  Whether it is in the cockpit or salon which spans over both hulls allowing for a larger area inside, the foredeck with the trampoline  for sun-tanning, or the great lounging area on the top deck you will enjoy the variety of ways to spend your day on the water.  Cats are much more stable than their counterparts which can be much better for new or inexperienced sailors who haven't quite found their sea legs yet or those who are prone to seasickness.   Two engines allow for greater maneuverability when in a marina or picking up mooring balls and thus, have gained popularity in recent years.  And, you will love the panoramic views!

Captain Kyle and Henry were fabulous! This activity made an incredible vacation fabulous! Kyle and Henry made everyone comfortable and make the trip fun. Kyle even gave us some history of the landmarks we saw. I would recommend Kyle and Henry and this boat ride as a must do!

This day was great and so was the boat and the captain. We had our family of 4 and we went out with Brian for a full day around St John. We had such a great time and he was the nicest person and so easy to talk to. He also knew alot about the island and its history. He also made the best rum punch. (best we had while on the island for a week) BEST DAY WE HAD ON VACAY. Highly recommend this company for your boat day needs and ask for Brian.

What a great time we had. Wedding went well, and the snorkeling at water island. They took us where we saw sea turtles and stingrays. The captain and Rachel we such great hosts, so attentive and just so nice. We all enjoyed our half day tour. Can’t say enough good things about them!

We spent half day celebrating our friends one-year Wedding Anniversary on Pisces catamaran! It was such an amazing time; Captain Connor and his first mate Chelsea were excellent! It was tranquil and quite relaxing; I will certainly use them again when ever my family and friends visit us in St. Thomas! I will also recommend Seas the Day Charters and Tours to my Airbnb guests!

What an incredible day!! Captan Bryan is amazing and probably the best captain we’ve ever had! He listened to basically what we wanted to do and then crafted the itinerary to perfection. We circumnavigated St. John and he took us to some of the most beautiful spots for snorkeling and just relaxing in the water. His superb timing got us to Lime Out for lunch at JUST the right time to secure us the best Lilly pad in the house! He was personal and informative and took the trip (which would have been great by itself) to the next level. Highly recommend!!

We had an absolutely fabulous day with Glenn! Truly, it could not have been better! Glenn is a very experienced sailor and very knowledgeable about the Caribbean. He is also a great guy and we all thoroughly enjoyed hanging with him for the day. We snorkeled at several great spots in the BVI, visited Willie T's and Soggy Dollar.

Whenever we visit St John "Boat Day" is always everyone's favorite day of the the vacation. This year was fabulous! We are a 3 generation family of 11 with six kids ages 9 and under. Captain Alex and First mate Aaron found out exactly what we like to do and they made it happen. The snorkeling was amazing, lunch from the pizza boat was delicious and fun and the time out on the water all day cannot be beat. Thank you Seas the Day and especially to Alex and Aaron. Our day really could not have been better!!!

An amazing experience to St. John! We went to snorkel at 2 different places that were both beautiful! Captain Greg and Coleman were amazing and so nice. They answered all of our many questions about the island and gave us the best information. They were so knowledgeable! We never felt rushed and we felt like they wanted to give us the best experience possible. The boat was so clean and the snorkeling gear was great. Very professional. This is the charter to book!

Sailing with Marty was my first experience as an adult sailing off the coast. We had a wonderful trip starting in St Augustine. First, we were given some basic information about the boat and safety, the other crew members and our destination. Then we were off. We sailed up to Amelia Island for most of the day and then docked at Fernandina Beach marina. We had a short walk into downtown and had a wonderful meal. It was also a great way to really get to know the other members of the crew. The next morning we set off and sailed north to Cumberland Island. Once on the island, we explored the ruins, had a nice hike and enjoyed dinner on the boat. The next step was amazing. We headed off into the sunset on the boat and sailed all night. It was truly exhilarating sailing through the night. At all times, I felt safe but the excitement got me hooked on sailing. This past summer my husband and I had an awesome time on Summerwind. The weather was warm so it was a great time sailing to downtown St Augustine and simply grabbing a mooring ball eating a yummy lunch with our family and diving off the back for a refreshing dip. The following day we took the boat several miles out in the ocean with all the sails up, music on in the cabin; a complete escape from work etc. At day’s end we sailed right up to Caps On The Water restaurant for my birthday where we enjoyed a seafood dinner and drinks. We can’t wait to plan another visit aboard Summerwind, It was a complete vacation over only a single weekend. Many thanks.

We had such a peaceful experience taking in the joys of the sea while sailing with Marty. He was willing to let us take on roles to help sail the boat (and willing to let us fail, too!) We brought along our two little children (2.5 years and 10 months) and they enjoyed playing below deck and seeing the beautiful scenery sailing by. I've sailed with Captain Marty several times and it was a joy. One of the trips was a longer sail from Puerto Rico to Saint Augustine, Florida in May, 2013. Being a novice on boats, this was a very exciting time for me. Marty and the crew made me feel very comfortable aboard the Yacht. We sailed down the Cooper River, under the incredible Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge and into Charleston Harbor. I enjoyed seeing the USS Yorktown and the submarines. The view of the city of Charleston and the historic homes was amazing! Marty is very knowledgeable about historic sites. Seeing Fort Sumter from the water was also a memorable experience. St Thomas is the gateway island of the U.S. Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. It is known for its beaches, shopping, and snorkeling spots. The capital city, Charlotte Amalie, is a busy cruise ship port. This vibrant port is a perfect place to begin your luxury yacht charter on St Thomas. It’s a short sail to St John or the British Virgin Islands .

The climate on St Thomas is tropical and hot all year round. However, there’s a relatively cooler period from December to April, with average highs around 82/84 °F. Gentle breezes temper the hotter months.

Things to see and do

• Shop: There is plenty of duty-free shopping. U.S. residents enjoy a $1,600 duty-free allowance in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This is twice the limit of most other Caribbean islands.
• Dive : Popular dive sites include Wreck of General Rogers , Cow and Calf Rocks , Shipwreck Cove , and Coki Beach .
• Surf at Hull Beach on St. Thomas. The Shack has good beach food.
• Dine: St. Thomas has many world-class restaurants and laid-back eateries. Try Shoreline Bar and Grille for casual dining on the waterfront, Virgilio’s for authentic Italian, and Morgan’s Mango Restaurant for fabulous Caribbean food, including Vegan and Vegetarian options. Dine in Frenchtown at The French Quarter Bistro and Oceana .
• Go to the beach:  Visit Magens Bay Beach , Sapphire Beach , Lindqvist Beach , or Coki Point Beach . All are equally beautiful; however, Magens Bay is known as one of the world’s best.
• Sight-see: Take the Skyride 700 feet above the city or climb the famous 99 Steps of Charlotte Amalie . Once at the top, you’ll have an incomparable view of the Caribbean.
• Experience culture: St. Thomas is home to the second-oldest synagogue in the Western Hemisphere. Also, the 1680-built Fort Christian is a site for history buffs. Or, visit the childhood home of Camille Pissarro, one of the best-known French Impressionists.
• Take a day trip to St John or Water Island .

In addition, enjoy lighted tennis courts, Wi-Fi, showers, a pool, a beach volleyball court, high-speed fuel pumps, a full-service marina, in-slip fueling, on-site provisioning, waste disposal services, laundry, and a business center.
• American Yacht Harbor has 123 total berths, four mega yacht berths, a max length: of 120 feet, a max draft: of 10 feet, and a max beam of 40 feet. There’s also electricity, 24-hour security, private showers, a sport fishing return station, chandlery, restaurants, entertainment, and shopping. Additionally, there’s Wi-Fi, high-speed fuel pumps, provisioning services, vessel maintenance flexibility, waste disposal services, transportation arrangements, and nearby laundry services.
• Sapphire Beach Marina is on the East End of St Thomas. It is a small marina with just 66 berths. Still, it has all the amenities of a larger facility, including a white sand beach, pool, restaurants, coffee shop, laundry, and bathroom facilities.

Crown Bay Marina offers 99 slips ranging from 25 feet to 200 feet and can accommodate up to 200 feet of mega yachts. Water, diesel, gasoline, and pump-out stations, metered power, satellite T.V., and Wi-Fi. Close to the airport, laundry services, restaurants, and pubs.

How does an All-Inclusive Yacht work?

Yacht Vacations are easy as can be!

Just like any high-end all-inclusive resort, it includes all your meals, beverages, ship’s bar (including wine), Snacks, Desserts, Water Toys, Captain and Chef.

If you have never done a yacht vacation before , then consider a charter catamaran. These types of yachts have expansive deck space and stability, along with the room to spread out.

Enjoy your breakfast served out on the water before moving on to Buck Island snorkeling with the Turtles in the morning. No need to find an expensive taxi ride or coordinate schedules; everything is on your timeline.

Definitely! Take Multi Generations. Everyone goes to a land resort, and the entire group tends to meet up at dinner or around the pool. On a crewed yacht charter, the grandparents can be right in the middle of the action watching their grandchildren participate in all the activities.

The parents can chill in the cockpit with a glass of wine and book while the crew is wearing the children out on a tube, pulling them around a perfect bay.

Meals flow quickly and effortlessly out of the galley based on the group’s preferences. At the time, you want the meals served!

• Buck Island  to snorkel and swim with the turtles. Located only half an hour or so sail from Charlotte Amalie harbor, you are just about guaranteed to see turtles here. Turtle Cove is on the Northwest corner. Buck Island is a National Wildlife Refuge with plenty of seabirds for you to see. Shipwreck Cove has the remains of an over hundred-foot long freighter Cartanza in 45′ of water.
• Christmas Cove  is right off Great St James Island. Christmas Cove is home to the famous  PIZZA PI boat  and often a first night stop on your crewed yacht charter. You are just about guaranteed to spot Turtles and Sting Rays here.
• St John, USVI  Cruz Bay, is a delight to visit. For me, it epitomizes a slower way of life, with trendy stores to shop in and many restaurants and beach bars to hang out. Don’t forget to stop for your fresh fruit juices in town.
• Francis Bay, St John.  This stretch of the St John coastline has half a dozen wide beaches that are all part of the Virgin  Islands National Park . If the glorious beaches and snorkel spots are not enough for you, then go ashore and do some hiking. My favorite part is watching from the yacht when the land tourists leave for the day to see if I can spot a donkey or a mongoose chilling on the beach!
• Waterlemon Bay, St John  Take a hike up to the  Annaberg Sugar Plantation  or the old School House. The views are inspiring. Snorkel around the cay itself. This anchorage has many starfish for you to see.
• Lovango Cay . This cay located in the channel usually features a few snowbirds who come to their house here every winter. Recently 49 acres of the island have been sold, and a new eco-friendly beach resort is going in.  Stop in and anchor here for the night and hit up the restaurant in its stunning location.
• Magens Bay . With Magen’s Bay being on the north side of St Thomas, it is a bit of a hike around this side for the charter yachts if the weather is not great. You may be rewarded by being the only boat in the anchorage.  The north side of St Thomas incredible for gunkholing when conditions are right. You have the feeling here that you are in the middle of nowhere, exploring spots that others barely go.
• Water Island  Located in the West Gregory Channel is the perfect weekend hang out spot. Not only do you have a beautiful large beach, but also Dinghy’s Bar often features live music in the afternoon. If that does not float your boat, how about renting a jet ski here or doing some parasailing?

Tell me about perfect All-Inclusive Yachts

Let’s start with those who like the newest and brightest yachts! SCUBA DOO won’t be available until after November 1st, 2020, but is going to be a beautiful brand new 2021 50′ Lagoon Catamaran that is best for six guests.

The prices I am giving you here are for fully crewed and inclusive with all meals, standard ship’s bar, snacks, beverages, crew, yacht, and toys for seven nights.

Crew Gratuity is always additional, Industry Standard at 15-20% adjusting up or down depending on the service you feel that you have received.

Generally inclusive on your crewed yacht charter

• All meals, cooked to your preference sheet filled out in advance
• Your beverages, wine and ship’s standard bar
• Captain and Cook to take care of you
• Your Chosen Yacht
• All water toys on board
• A tender/dinghy to get back and forth to shore and pull water toys with
• All the running expenses of the yacht, fuel, ice, garbage disposal, cruising permits
• Sometimes SCUBA diving depending on the yacht

Generally Exclusive on your crewed yacht charter

• Crew Gratuity, industry-standard at 15-20% adjusted up or down according to the service you feel that you received
• Your flights, and taxi’s getting to and from your yacht
• Communications on your Cell phone, most of the boats will have wi-fi that is good for email and social media
• Anything you chose to eat or drink onshore
• Dockage that you request during the week. Anchoring out in the breeze is the best part anyway!
