3 of the Best Cincinnati Riverboat & Dinner Cruises

Take to the Ohio River and see Cincinnati in a different light on one of these excellent riverboat tours and dinner cruises.

The great city of Cincinnati sits on the north bank of the Ohio River, which splits it from the state of Kentucky. The best way to appreciate the cityscape on either side of the river is by floating along it. Taking a traditional riverboat along the Ohio, complete with a paddle wheel and open decks, is a fun and traditional way to go. Throw a dinner into the mix while watching the setting sun for an enhanced cruise experience. Here are three top options.

Cincinnati Historic Sightseeing Cruise

The Queen City, as Cincinnati is known (as well as ‘The Athens of the West’), was first settled in 1788 and the city’s skyline is best viewed from the Ohio River. On this 90-minute riverboat cruise, your captain will provide commentary about the buildings you pass and their relevance to the city’s past and present. You will also learn much about the parts of northern Kentucky visible during the trip. This tour is usually available at 3pm on Tue-Thu and Sat-Sun. From $26 per person.

Sunset Cruise on the Ohio River

b&b riverboat cincinnati

The stunning River Queen is part of the BB Riverboats fleet of old-timey paddleboats. This charming white and red boat plies the Ohio River for two hours at sunset, as the lands of Kentucky and the Ohio city of Cincinnati are daubed in the warm glow of the fading light. There is also live music on board, setting a jolly tone as you explore this lovely stretch of water. There’s a cash bar on board for drinks and snacks. From $29 per person.

Cincinnati: Dinner Cruise on the Ohio River

Aboard the Belle of Cincinnati, you will find ample space on the decks and inside the cabins to sit and enjoy the river views. But the highlight of this two-hour tour is the dinner and dessert included in your cruise price. There are a number of different cruise options to choose from, including the captain’s and admiral’s dinner cruises, with the latter offering more dining options, including carved turkey, ribs and vegetarian pasta dishes. Alcoholic drinks can be purchased from the onboard bar for an additional fee. From $57 per person.

• BB Riverboats offers relaxing river cruises on three boats departing from Newport, KY Landing Dock. • The luncheon on the River Queen offers a variety of buffet options and drinks. • The experience is recommended for all ages and provides a peaceful way to spend the afternoon.

BB Riverboats gets its name from the initials of the people who were instrumental in starting the business. Ben Bernstein and Betty Blake which have since passed on. The company is now run by Ben Bernstein’s son Alan and his family.

The boats are named Belle of Cincinnati, River Queen, and River’s Edge.

All the cruises leave from the Newport, KY Landing Dock located at 101 Riverboat Row. Parking is free and if arriving early there is a nice indoor seating area with vending machines, and bathrooms. There are accessibility options for boarding including an elevator.

How was the luncheon?

I was on the River Queen for the captain’s lunch and there were plenty of options for the buffet. The tossed salad, fresh fruit salad, Kentucky hot brown, pasta dishes, cookies, brownies, chicken salad, and much more. All you care to eat which is included in the price of the fare.

b&b riverboat cincinnati

Any wine or cocktails on the boat?

There are many choices of alcohol on the boat and served with a smile. Chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, sauvignon Blanc, cocktails, and beer. The top deck has a bar and a bartender to serve guests as you overlook the amazing river.

Will you go back on the BB River cruise?

Yes, everyone should go on this river cruise and it’s for all ages.

I had a phenomenal time and experience on the River Queen. Super relaxing and I saw so much natural beauty on the river itself. Its therapeutic for the spirit and a peaceful way to spend the afternoon.

There are many options for cruises and several events throughout the summer. To find an event for yourself or group, checkout their complete website.

Coroner identifies 19-year-old whose body was recovered from Great Miami River

Boy found dead after search of Great Miami River

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio — A 19-year-old man pulled from the Great Miami River on Sunday drowned, according to the Butler County Coroner's Office.

The coroner identified him as Justin L. Lewis Jr.

His body was found at around 3 p.m. on Sunday, according to Middletown Division of Fire and Acting Police Chief Andy Warrick

Rescue workers searched the Great Miami River late Friday night through the weekend near the Germantown Road bridge on a report a person was in the water and needed rescued.

Three boats from Middletown and Monroe rescue searched around 1 a.m. up and down the river for the person. A drone from Trenton police and a helicopter from the Ohio State Patrol also assisted in the search.

The search then resumed Saturday morning and continued through the day and into Sunday.

Boy found dead after search of Great Miami River

Police have not released additional information about the search.

The police department posted a social media message on behalf of the fire department during the search. It asked people to stay out of the Miami River Park (4401 N. Verity Parkway) area. Members of the public had dropped off food and water for first responders during the search.

“They are very appreciative for those of you that have dropped off food and water but are asking that those be redirected to Fire Headquarters,” the post said.

An earlier version of this story identified the deceased as a "boy" based off of information available at the time. It has since been updated.

Rookwood Pottery unveils first-ever Oktoberfest Zinzinnati steins

by Meghan Mongillo & WKRC staff

(WKRC)

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - We are two months away from one of the biggest German celebrations in the world.

Oktoberfest Zinzinnati still boasts the title as second largest on the planet outside of Munich, Germany.

This year there are two new things; the venue will be along the river for the first time and a special souvenir is for sale that holds a rich Cincinnati connection.

Inside Rookwood Pottery, the workers are going over every tiny detail of a special product in their traditional clay and water process.

"Our wonderful brewing history in Cincinnati that goes back to easily the 1880s and that’s when Rookwood made the first beer stein," recounts Rookwood historian George Hibben.

Now almost a century and a half later, Rookwood is making the first official commemorative beer stein for Oktoberfest Zinzinnati.

"It made so much sense to have a company that’s been producing these kind of steins for over a hundred years, there’s so much history," said Chelsea York, VP of events for the Cincinnati Chamber.

History you can see on every mug. From the carvings of the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge to a wiener dog with a hat and a pretzel.

"We are getting very close to the 50th anniversary. So, the game is being stepped up in terms of quality and artistry of the stein for Zinzinnati Oktoberfest."

The outside of the stein is a rich brown, created for Oktoberfest Zinzinnati. Inside is a color called Patriot Blue, a nod to the Ohio River.

"Putting the largest festival tent ever at Oktoberfest this year, it’s over 300 feet long, it can seat over a thousand people. So, we are scaling this festival up in a lot of major ways."

So, get ready to raise a stein at at Sawyer Point for Oktoberfest .

You could be holding one of the first-ever steins produced for the Zinzinnati tradition by a legendary Cincinnati company - Rookwood pottery.

No word how many beer steins are being made, they won’t say, but they are encouraging folks to pre-order one now.

Oktoberfest runs from Sept. 19 - 22.

At least 2.7 million power outages were reported Monday morning as Hurricane Beryl pummeled southeast Texas with heavy rain and strong winds.

According to the National Hurricane Center , Beryl intensified into a Category 1 as it made landfall in the Lone Star State early Monday.

As of about 1 p.m. CT, at least 2.7 million homes and businesses across the state remained in the dark, according to the USA TODAY Network power outage tracker, as the hurricane slammed a life-threatening storm surge and heavy rainfall into the region.

The number of outages rose sharply Monday morning, with about 163,000 outages reported just before 7:30 a.m. CT.

Where is beryl, when did beryl make landfall in texas.

Beryl sustained winds of more than 80 mph as it made landfall around 4:30 a.m. near Matagorda, a coastal community between Galveston and Corpus Christi, hurricane officials reported.

Minutes after landfall, the weather service in Houston issued a tornado warning for multiple counties. According to the weather service's  Storm Prediction Center , tornadoes were possible from far east Texas into northwest Louisiana and as far as southwest Arkansas.

How 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials site Riversport OKC has grown into 'global destination'

b&b riverboat cincinnati

Ria Sribar’s love for water sports has carried her on global odysseys.

She traveled 231 miles through the Grand Canyon in a slalom boat at age 11. She has competed in World Championships in Brazil, Italy and Slovenia. Now, Sribar strives to represent the United States in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

To reach the Olympics, she has to pass through a familiar place: Oklahoma City.

The daughter of a Serbian mother and a Slovenian father, Sribar grew up in northern California, but she has spent enough time at Riversport OKC to know the distinct features of its channels. Sribar said she typically attends training camp on a yearly basis in Oklahoma City.

“I think just as a whole, the facility’s incredible,” Sribar said.

Although visitors might not expect a city in the plains to boast whitewater rapids, Riversport has a strong reputation among serious athletes like Sribar, who competes in canoe slalom. The venue is set to host the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for canoe/kayak slalom and kayak cross Friday and Saturday, spotlighting one of Oklahoma’s hidden gems.

Mike Knopp’s out-of-the-box brainchild has grown into a hotspot for Olympic hopefuls.

“It’s something that I think when we started all this, people didn’t maybe fully appreciate or understand what this could mean because it was not necessarily part of our culture back then,” said Knopp, Riversport’s executive director/founder. “But as we continue to do this, we are truly making Oklahoma City a global destination for the sport.

“To have so many opportunities to be that stop that the athletes have to make before going to pursue their Olympic dream is quite an honor.”

Oklahoma City is introducing spectators to kayak cross, a new Olympic sport in which athletes start 10 feet above the water and propel their kayaks into the rapids.

But the city is no stranger to the Olympic water sports scene.

This is the fourth time for the Olympic Team Trials to come to Riversport, a designated U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Site since 2009.

This hub for outdoor adventure wouldn't exist without Knopp’s vivid imagination. An avid rower who established Oklahoma City University’s program, Knopp isn’t one to limit his dreams. As the revitalized Oklahoma River reached its completion in 2004, Knopp envisioned an active water sports scene just southeast of Bricktown.

He understood there would be doubters.

“To be honest, it was probably the last place people would have thought they’re going to be pursuing whitewater in America,” Knopp said.

The sprawling Boathouse District had to take shape gradually. The initial flatwater course gained popularity, and in 2008, Riversport held its first Olympic Team Trials. The event returned in 2012.

Then Riversport Whitewater Center debuted in 2016 with funding from MAPS 3, a penny sales tax to bring about public developments in the city. With the rarity of a flatwater course and whitewater course in one location, Oklahoma City again hosted Olympic Team Trials that year.

This month, the Olympic trials add a unique element to downtown's bustling sports landscape. Fans have packed Paycom Center for the OKC Thunder’s NBA playoff games and runners will gather for the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon this weekend.

Mayor David Holt has promoted the events together. Sporting an OKC Memorial Marathon jacket and pants with a Thunder logo, he took a kayak trip down Riversport’s channels the week before aspiring Olympians will do the same. The Olympic Team Trials, which is free for spectators, schedule spans from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday, while Saturday’s events start at 9 a.m. and conclude with 8:45 p.m. fireworks.

“Here in Oklahoma City, obviously, we’re kind of the center of the sports world for the next couple of weeks,” Holt said. “We definitely want to highlight (the Olympic trials). I think people are kind of used to how they interact with the NBA playoffs and the Memorial Marathon. This only happens every few years, so we really want to get the word out, and we really want to have a strong showing.”

Some Olympic hopefuls, including Sribar and Marcella Altman, showed up several days early for training. Hailing from Maryland, Altman belongs to the Potomac Whitewater Racing Club – hardly close to Oklahoma City. But she, like Sribar, is well-acquainted with Riversport’s meandering course and distinct backdrop featuring the 844-foot Devon Tower.

“I really love the fact that they have the two channels, that they have some of the best training conditions within the U.S.,” Altman said. “It’s definitely on par with even the world standard, which is amazing to have that here within the U.S. It’s also an incredible place to have development for both current athletes and the up-and-coming generations, so I hope to see the venue flourish and grow.”

Riversport has hosted a variety of events, and there's more in store for 2026. The venue is the designated site for the International Canoe Federation Canoe Slalom World Championships, expanding Riversport’s worldwide reach.

As Riversport extends its arms around the globe, the venue maintains pride in its local roots. Striving to foster connections within the community, Riversport is offering the Olympic Experience Interactive Fan Zone to those who attend the Olympic Team Trials this weekend. Guests can not only stand near the channels as spectators, but also try the sports for themselves.

“When we have events like this, we want there to be a real legacy to it,” Knopp said. “We want the youth of Oklahoma City to see this as, this is something they can (do). If you have one of the best venues in the world, and we have great coaches, this is a chance to maybe inspire kids to come and give it a shot.

“The mayor did (last Thursday). Coming out for the trials to see the athletes in action, it’s a great opportunity for youth here.”
