Sea Lions, Birds, Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse and Martillo Island (Penguin Island) Navigation
Duration : 4 and ½ hours approximately Departures : 09:00AM / 04:00PM Available during high season (October to April) Regular excursion
We set sail from the local tourist dock crossing the wide Ushuaia Bay until reaching the Beagle Channel through Paso Chico.
There we sail around the Isla de los Pájaros where we will see the birds of Tierra del Fuego watching Skuas, Black-browed Albatrosses, Steam Ducks, Cauquenes, Cook Seagulls and Gray Seagulls; and of the Isla de los Lobos where we can observe sea lions with one and two hairs. Both islands belong to the Bridges archipelago.
When arriving at the Lighthouse Les Eclaireurs (The Illuminators), we will be able to appreciate the colonies of Imperial Cormorants and Rocky Cormorants; and also listen to the story of the collapse of the SS Monte Cervantes, which he starred in in 1930.
Continuing, we will navigate towards the East enjoying the wonderful landscapes of the channel and the mountains that surround it, there we will see on the Argentina coast Puerto Almanza and on the Chilean coast the Puerto Williams Naval Base, and then we will arrive at the Isla Martillo where we will have the opportunity to see a colony of Magellanic Penguins and some examples of Papua penguins.
There, we turn to return to Ushuaia, sailing near the North coast of the Canal, appreciating the characteristic flora and spotting some historical sites such as the Estancia Túnel and Estancia Remolino, where since 1912 the semi-sunken hull of the Vapor Ship Monte Sarmiento has been located.
At the end of the journey you will be amazed by the view of the mountain range that surrounds the city of Ushuaia and its sumptuous nature that surrounds it. It is a tour of great historical and scenic value that we made, visiting privileged and interesting points along the entire trip, which you can discover sailing with Canoero catamarans through the waters of the Beagle Channel.
Note: at the beginning and at the end of the season you could see fewer penguin specimens.
