Londoners have been gazing in awe at a 'superyacht' that moored up near the iconic Tower Bridge, with some saying it's the "biggest boat" they've ever seen. The yacht reportedly turned up over the weekend, leaving Londoners wondering who owns it and what it's doing there. They were also keen to know the price tag.

Some found the yacht a little insensitive, considering that many people in London are struggling financially in the midst of the cost of living crisis. But as it so happens, the owner of the boat is no stranger to the capital.

Posting a picture of the boat on Reddit, one person wrote: "Seriously, this thing showed up this morning and is moored right by Tower Bridge. It's the biggest boat I have seen here, any idea who owns it?"

One person replied: "Sorry but not me as I can barely afford heating, so how the heck do you expect me to own a million dollar super boat?"

Turns out the boat, named 'Kismet', is owned by billionaire Shahid Khan, who also happens to own Fulham Football Club. Shahid bought the club from former owner Mohamed Al Fayed in 2013.

The Pakistani-American tycoon also owns NFL team the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars will be in town on October 30 to play against the Denver Broncos at Wembley Stadium, perhaps explaining why his boat is moored on the Thames.

The superyacht 'Kismet' is moored opposite Butler's Wharf, downstream on the river Thames from Tower Bridge and the capital's financial district's skyscrapers, on 20th October 2021, in London, England. 'Kismet' is a 95.2m (312 ft)-long superyacht which was built in 2014. It is managed by the Moran Yacht & Ship chartering business, and is owned by Pakistani-American billionaire Shahid Khan. 'Kismet' means "destiny" or "fate" in Khans native Urdu. (Photo by Richard Baker / In Pictures via Getty Images)

The boat is said to currently be on sale for the cost of 169 million euros, or more than £140 million.

Not everyone was happy to see it docked in London. One said: "Waiting for Just Stop Oil to spray paint it as well. Would be brilliant." Another commented: "Think you should never show off such extravagance in a city with homeless people on the street."

Saying that, some Londoners claim they've seen better. "Gone are the Russian mega mega yachts, now come the toddlers," said one. "I mean, does this even have a helipad or two?"

Kismet, which means 'fate' or 'destiny' in Urdu, was built in 2014 and sails under the flag of Cayman Islands. It has its own swimming pool on board.

Shahid Khan left Pakistan as a teenager and initially washed dishes to get by - and now he owns a £4billion auto parts company with more than 10,000 employees as well as a £145m super-yacht.

The 71-year-old owner of Flex-N-Gate, who is also a sports tycoon, has an estimated net worth of £6.4billion according to Forbes , as well as being the 308th richest person in the world.

Born into a middle-class family in Lahore, Khan moved to the United States at the age of 16 and graduated from the UIUC College of Engineering four years later.

Having worked at the Flex-N-Gate Corporation for a decade, he saved enough to buy the company from his former employer and oversaw supply to the biggest automakers in the country.

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan looks on from the field before the game between the New Orleans Saints and the Jacksonville Jaguars at TIAA Bank Field on October 13, 2019 in Jacksonville, Florida.

With the company growing from around £15million in sales to almost £2billion in 2010 and £8billion in 2020, Khan has been able to spend his cash in some more frivolous avenues.

As well as the purchase of NFL outfit Jacksonville Jaguars back in 2011, and the move to buy Fulham from Mohamed Al Fayed for around £200million in 2014, he is also the lead investor of All Elite Wrestling .

The same year as his purchase of Fulham , the 312 ft-long superyacht Kismet was built by the Lurssen shipyard in Germany, and has an extremely expensive interior design.

With specifications of a five-star hotel, the Kismet can carry 28 crew members at any time and has as many as eight state rooms with a capacity of 16 guests.

Fulham owner Shahid Khan's £145m super-yacht includes five decks

Finished in style by Reymond Langton and Espen Oino, a deck of black marble is complete with a swimming pool, movie theatre, sauna, helipads, barbecue area, elevator and gym.

Other amenities include a wifi connection, and underwater lighting, with large windows across all decks, a large bath made of solid onyx, an electronic piano and 350kg chandelier over a grand staircase.

With a charter price of just under £1million a week, Jay-Z and Beyonce rented it out during a 2018 trip to Italy, and it was also featured in Netflix film 6 Underground starring Ryan Reynolds in 2019.

Furthermore, The Athletic report that Khan, who is back in London this week, hosted a party on the Kismet on Thursday evening, with George Ezra performing and NFL commissioner Roger Goodall a guest.

The Kismet has room for sporting activity as well as a helipad

As of 2020, the Kismet has been listed for sale on Moran Yachts , with an asking price of around £145million, with a tagline of the 'highest quality superyacht available for sale in the world'.

They add: "Kismet yacht, for sale with Moran Yacht and Ship, can accommodate 16 guests in 8 opulent staterooms, with the master stateroom featuring a private deck complete with a Jacuzzi and access to the yacht’s helipad.

"Other features included a spacious sundeck complete with a swimming pool, full-service spa, and a one-of-a-kind retractable outdoor fireplace."

The staircase and chandelier are reminiscent of a luxury hotel

"My goal was to create a yacht that many years from now will be timeless and yet still be ahead of its time. I wanted to balance awesome with welcoming,” says Khan of the design.

With exterior designer Espen telling SuperYacht World: “The stakes were high. “The brief was clear: the new yacht had to be superior in all respects."

With Khan concluding on the finished yacht: “Walt Disney once famously said, ‘If you can dream it, you can do it’. When you experience Kismet, you know this to be true."

Fulham owner Shahid Khan: ‘Another bid for Wembley? Who knows what the future holds?’

fulham owner yacht

It’s hot in the city. The views over London are spectacular and, from the penthouse suite of his Park Lane hotel, Shahid Khan pulls up a seat to talk Fulham , his views on English football and the story of his own remarkable journey from a dish washer to a billionaire.

He is one of the richest men in the sport – reputedly the wealthiest person of Pakistani origin on the planet – and the thought occurs that not everybody in his position is willing to open himself up this way.

How many of us ever heard Roman Abramovich speak during his years of ownership at Chelsea? The Glazer family have not made themselves available for interview in their 17 years of running Manchester United from the US state of Florida. Who knows what Sheikh Mansour, the long-distance owner of Manchester City , sounds like? So many football club owners these days are elusive, almost mysterious, figures who operate out of view and will stubbornly fight to keep it that way.

Khan takes the view that he should speak at the right times – “There’s accountability on my part” – and this summer is one of them, with Fulham getting promoted back to the Premier League and his NFL team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, booked in this October for another game at Wembley, the stadium he tried to buy a few years ago.

Does Khan have any lingering regrets that it is not his name above the door of England’s national stadium and that it was depicted, in his words, as a “hostile takeover”?

fulham owner yacht

That is one of the issues we will cover and he leaves the door open – or maybe just slightly ajar – for the possibility that one day he might return with a second offer.

“You look for something that works, maybe in the future,” he says, tantalisingly.

Khan turns 72 next week and there is plenty to discuss as Fulham try to end the wild graph of exhilarating highs and excruciating lows that has seen them win promotion three times, and twice go straight back down to the Championship, in the last five seasons…

  • Will there come a day when the Premier League resurrects its plan for a “39th game” to emulate what the Jaguars and the NFL do several times per season at Wembley and now Tottenham ’s new stadium?
  • Why he believes the Premier League should ignore calls to go down to 18 clubs.
  • How a club of Fulham’s size can compete against the elite clubs in England’s top division.
  • The reason why the Premier League and the NFL are “like Mars and Planet Earth.”

Khan – pinstripe blazer, signature moustache, known as Shad to the people closest to him – is always measured and thoughtful in his responses. He doesn’t “slam” or “blast”. Yet he does gently make the point that he believes the Football Association missed a trick by not accepting his proposal in 2018 to buy Wembley for £600 million and investing that money into grassroots facilities.

His proposal had the support of the then-sports minister Tracey Crouch. But the opposition within the FA and parts of the media was fierce – so fierce, indeed, that he ended up withdrawing the offer.

“It started off for us and Wembley (the FA) that it was a win-win for both parties,” he says. “It kind of deteriorated into (a situation) where it was like a hostile takeover, and that was really not the intent. So I think we did absolutely the right thing to say, ‘OK, we don’t want people going through this anguish’.

“Then COVID-19 hit and the losses for the FA have been significant. We hear about that, so who knows what the future holds?

“There was some logic to it (selling Wembley) – and there might still be – but there’s nothing active.

“I think it would have been very good for them (the FA), quite frankly. This is with hindsight but, frankly, the opposition to it surprised me.”

Khan is in England for the week and, early on Wednesday, he went to Craven Cottage, walked across the pitch and climbed the steps of the new Riverside Stand to take in the view from the stadium in London that he can call his own.

The new structure opens for business this season – albeit only its lower tier, to begin with – and the idea is that the extra revenue it generates will help Fulham adhere to the financial fair-play regulations that handicap a club of their size.

“The first time I came to London was 1967,” Khan says. “I’ve been back many, many times and – I’m telling you – the cityscape from the seats in the top tier, when you see the whole city laid out in front of you, the Shard, the London Eye and everything else … it will blow your mind.

“The game-day experience is going to be unique. Sitting on the river, surrounded by parks… it is unquestionably the most beautiful club on the planet.”

This is all part of Khan’s planning for Fulham’s future and, nine years after buying the club from Mohamed Al Fayed, it is absolutely clear he still has the drive and ambition to keep trying to push them forward, in tandem with his son, Tony, the club’s director of football.

At the same time, Khan Sr is visibly thrilled when it is put to him that the Jaguars have become the NFL franchise of choice for many UK fans. This, after all, was a significant part of why he wanted them to have an annual fixture in London. The latest deal means the Jaguars will play at Wembley in each of the next three years. The next occasion will be against Denver Broncos on October 30, and their popularity is growing all the time.

“I can give you statistics on that,” Khan says. “When we started, we were 31 out of 32 (NFL teams) when it came to recognition outside the US. Today, we are definitely top five. Just look how many people these days are wearing Jaguars shirts. The evolution has been quite remarkable. It (Wembley) is an iconic stadium. We love playing there. It’s going to be our home – our home away from home – for the future.”

Plainly, though, it is not always easy running teams in the Premier League and the NFL simultaneously. The two, he says, are completely different. “The NFL is 32 entities, yet they act like one. The competitive balance is so good because each gets a fraction – a 32nd – of (the revenue). In the Premier League, there is still a huge amount in disparity on income.”

fulham owner yacht

Nobody, to put it another way, should expect Fulham – or any other Premier League club – to be allowed to play one of their fixtures abroad in the near future. The Jaguars do it with the NFL’s blessing. But, 10 years after the Premier League proposed its Game 39 plan, Khan sounds sceptical about the chances of it being resurrected. The financial imbalance, he says, is too much.

“I think it is going to be harder because of that. The only way it would make sense (for one club to do it) is if all the revenue from that game gets split 20 different ways. That’s unlikely.”

It is tempting to assume that, deep down, he would like the opportunity to do with Fulham what is possible with the Jaguars. He also notes that the NFL, as well as other American sports, are much more transparent than football, even making public the players’ salaries. Should that happen in England? “I think that’s something that will evolve,” he says.

To be clear, however, this is not a man who wants to change football’s traditions or Americanise the sport.

Many owners of American sports franchises dislike, or cannot understand, the concept of promotion and relegation that exists in English football. “That is a huge difference because relegation and promotion… it’s like you’re on two different planets,” says Khan. “How similar is Mars to Planet Earth?”

So does he prefer life on Mars or Earth? Khan seems to be enjoying all his space travel.

“Rather than pontificating whether it’s a good or a bad thing, it’s reality,” he says.

“We saw people in the COVID-19 season (2020-21) saying, ‘OK, maybe this year, no relegation or promotion, or let’s make it two teams, not three, going up and down. I think the right thing was done to say, ‘No, we are going to finish the season as normal’.

“A lot of stuff in English football… it’s historic, it’s carved in stone. There has been talk about maybe having 18 clubs in the league. No. It should be 20. Why mess with history?”

His own fortune comes from, of all things, truck bumpers.

Khan went to work for an automotive company called Flex-N-Gate after getting his qualifications and helped to invent a one-piece bumper. He set up his own business, Bumper Works, and then bought Flex-N-Gate in 1980 for $800,000. Four decades on, it is now estimated the firm’s parts are on more than two-thirds of all the cars and trucks sold in America.

In 2020, Flex-N-Gate had revenue of $8.9 billion. And all those bumpers landed Khan on the Forbes list of the 400 richest people in America. The top 100, to be precise.

He lives in Naples, Florida. He has a super-yacht, Kismet, and flies everywhere by private jet. “I’m blessed,” he says, “I don’t have to worry about being stuck at Heathrow.” Forbes magazine has featured him as the face of the American dream.

It is a remarkable story given that when Khan left Pakistan in January 1967, at the age of 16, he had little else but $500, his wits and a lot of determination. His first night was at a YMCA hostel. It cost $2 but the young Khan, with a place at the University of Illinois waiting, was worried he would run out of money.

“So I went out the next day and got a job washing dishes in a restaurant. It was $1.2o an hour, but that was a lot of money for me then. I remember thinking on my second day, ‘Oh my god, I’m making more than 99 per cent of the people in Pakistan’. It was like, ‘Wow, why do I even need to go to college? This is a pretty good living’.

“I did that for four months, until I got a better job working in a machine shop. Then, in the summer, I was working in a gravel quarry for road construction. It was light manual work, and I did that for three summers.”

His story begins in Lahore, Pakistan’s second largest city, where the sport that really matters is cricket and his experience of Test matches came from waiting outside the national stadium for the mid-afternoon tea interval. The young Khan had realised that was the time the doors were opened and he could get in to see the rest of the day’s play for free. “My parents were middle-class,” he explains, “but they didn’t believe in spending money on a ticket.”

His own entrepreneurial spirit was evident from his side-line of charging a fee to lend other kids his comic books – “It wasn’t exactly lucrative” – and even at a young age he had a gift of knowing what would sell.

“I was trying to make a buck or two. There were government restrictions at the time about what you could import. I did make a bit of money selling radios, though, because you could bring in the transistors as free samples. We would have plastic soap dishes that could work as a container for those transistors, and suddenly you had a short-wave radio.”

A picture is building of someone who took bits from his parents to help make the most of himself.

His father, Rafiq, sold surveying equipment and encouraged his son’s early business ventures. His mother, Zakia, was a maths professor. They both preached humility and Khan laughs when it is put to him that his story would make a good film. No chance, he says. “That sounds like one of the most boring films ever. Even someone who would ponder that thought breathes narcissism. I’ve no desire to do that.”

fulham owner yacht

He is too busy anyway, given that he and son Tony are also co-owners of All Elite Wrestling and involved in various other work ventures, as well as currently trying to keep Marco Silva, Fulham’s manager, happy by upgrading their squad for the new season back in the top flight.

Joao Palhinha has signed for £20 million from Sporting Lisbon and Andreas Pereira has arrived from Manchester United. Other players have been targeted, among them Arsenal ’s Bernd Leno, Shakhtar Donestk’s Manor Solomon and West Ham ’s Issa Diop .

When The Athletic interviewed Tony Khan towards the end of last season , he winced when it was put to him that Fulham’s reputation was of a yo-yo club, going up and down between English football’s top two divisions from one season to the next. “From now on, I just want us to be a yo club,” he said.

His father phrases it differently.

“If you haven’t learned, you are doomed to repeat those mistakes. We feel the team that has come up is much stronger than the two teams (to be promoted) prior. We still want to strengthen the squad but I think we have a better team now.

“I was at the training ground yesterday for several hours and talked to the players, as a group and also one-on-one. The confidence they have is very, very different. We look at it from every aspect – the gut feeling, the emotion, the preparation – and one of the advantages for Marco is that he has been in the Premier League before.”

Khan had persuaded Silva to take the job by inviting him on board Kismet, then docked in Cascais on the Portuguese coast, and offering the former Everton , Watford and Hull City manager the opportunity to replace Scott Parker.

“It was important to sit down and see the chemistry. Portugal didn’t have the same (COVID-19) rules that Britain did. So I had Marco come over and spent several hours with him. He was committed at the time to going to a club in Turkey but I think it was the right decision because, let’s face it, there is a lot written about the Super League when the truth is the Super League exists already. It’s the Premier League.

“If you are a player or coach and you want the ultimate experience, you’ve got to be here in English football.”

Unfortunately for Fulham, it is not just a case that the Khans can spend what they want on signing who they want.

Fulham have to think of other ways of raising money (he also talks about the importance of having a productive youth academy ). Many fans have complained that tickets in the new Riverside Stand are too expensive but, plainly, the people at the top of the club think it is necessary.

Khan is leaving that issue to Fulham’s chief executive, Alistair Mackintosh, who met the supporters’ trust on Thursday to discuss it in person.

“Our goal is staying up,” Khan says. “Then, in this league, you have FFP rules you have to comply with. So how do we increase the revenue? The Riverside Stand is to serve the community, change the riverscape of London in a good way and produce gameday revenue that can be invested.

“Everything is about how we can get revenue to comply with the rules and invest in the squad. A small, ambitious club has to have a different approach than one of the bigger clubs. That’s the only way you’re going to be successful and sustainable.”

It is exciting and daunting in equal measures.

Last season’s Premier League runners-up, Champions League finalists and domestic cup double winners Liverpool are Fulham’s first opponents of the new season at the Cottage on August 6. It is a reminder that they are competing against a number of clubs who can blow them out of the water because of the mind-boggling money involved at the highest level of the sport.

“Is life fair?” Khan responds, and now he is laughing. “My whole life I’ve been in situations where you have none of the advantages that other folks do, other than the ability to think and not stick to the norm.”

Shahid Khan is married to Ann Carlson Khan since 1977 and has two children with her. One of their children, Tony Khan is currently leading the AEW project alongside his 71-year-old father and has a net worth of $100 million.

Fulham Under Shahid Khan’s Ownership

Shahid Khan was appointed chairman in July 2013, however Martin Jol was fired as manager on December 1, 2013, after a terrible start to the 2013–14 season, with only 10 points from 13 games. René Meulensteen was appointed head coach. Following a 4–1 defeat away to Stoke on 3 May, Meulensteen was replaced by Felix Magath after only 17 games in command due to a lack of improvement in form. However, Fulham’s fortunes did not improve, and they were relegated to the Championship.

Following a dismal start to life back in the Premier League, Jokanovic was fired on November 14, 2018, and was replaced by Claudio Ranieri, a former Leicester manager. In the end, Ranieri’s performance did not improve, and he left the club in February 2019. On 3 April 2019, he was succeeded as caretaker manager by Scott Parker, who was unable to save the club from relegation.

After a 4th-place finish, Parker led the team back to the Premier League on 4 August 2020, defeating London rivals Brentford 2–1 in the playoff final. However, after only one season in the top flight, the club would be relegated once more. Parker departed the club by mutual consent following relegation, and was replaced by former Everton coach Marco Silva.

Inside A $200 Million Entertainment Superyacht: The Tycoon Shahid Khan’s Kismet

Grand, magnificent, and luxurious, it's very easy to run out of superlatives for Shahid Khan’s $200 million superyacht.

This Kismet superyacht measuring 95.2 meters was built by Lurssen in 2014 and is owned by Shahid Khan, a Pakistani-American billionaire and business tycoon who also owns the Fulham Football Club and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Shahid Khan is one of those billionaires whose life story has the potential to become a successful film.

Khan's rags-to-riches story began in Pakistan, where he was born, and took a decisive turn when he immigrated to the United States as a teenager. According to Forbes, the business tycoon, who is now worth more than $8 billion, worked as a dishwasher while attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Years later, he would become the owner of auto parts distributor Flex-N-Gate. Although he is best known today for owning the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars and the Fulham football club in the United Kingdom, Khan first rose to prominence as an engineer who created a one-piece truck bumper. He now owns several companies in the entertainment industry and has come a long way since his humble beginnings.

Shahid "Shad" Khan, the self-made American bumper-parts billionaire, is nothing if not daring in his business dealings, which is why he has been able to leverage his NFL team, the Jacksonville Jaguars , into regular guest appearances at London's Wembley Stadium. This summer, he's in intense talks to buy Wembley Stadium from the Football Association of Great Britain, which owns it.

The German Lürssen shipyard began construction of a new superyacht for Khan in 2014, the same year Khan purchased Fulham from Mohamed Al-Fayed. The 312-foot-long (92-meter-long) Kismet combined a majestic exterior by Espen Oeino with the interior of a five-star hotel designed by Reymond Langton Design.

A Breathtaking Overview: A $200 Million Entertainment Superyacht, The Tycoon Shahid Khan’s Kismet

Lürssen, based in Bremen, Germany, is one of those well-known shipyards with a long history. Lürssen is credited with designing the world's first motorboat , which was commissioned by none other than Gottlieb Daimler, who wanted to put his engine to the test. Returning to modern times, Lürssen is best known for delivering the famous Azzam, a 2015 superyacht that set new length and speed records.

The shipyard referred to Kismet as "the ultimate entertainment vessel." It can accommodate 18 guests in eight ultra-luxurious staterooms and 27 crew members. It has zero-speed anchor stabilizers for improved onboard comfort, as well as a top speed of more than 17 knots. "Some elements of the exterior, such as the stainless steel air inlets aft of the funnels, were inspired by the Chicago skyline," Espen told Superyacht World.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z famously chartered Khan's Kismet during the summer of 2018 for around $1.2 million per week. They've since moved on to the $4 million-per-week Flying Fox, while Kismet has continued its journey. Moran Yacht and Ship has it listed for nearly $200 million right now. Perhaps Shahid Khan is ready to upgrade to a larger superyacht, as he did with Kismet, which was a step up from his previous smaller yacht.

However, the Khan boat merits more scrutiny than just the list of its celebrity or near-celebrity passengers. The Kismet exudes a very specific type of built-in opulence, with an exterior designed by Espen Oeino and an interior designed by Reymond Langton – the Bath-based British designer who has realized several notable superyachts.

The Interior Design Of The Tycoon Shahid Khan’s Kismet Is One That Exudes Incredible Grandiose

Kismet was built to be a charter yacht from the beginning, which meant it would be busy not only cruising with its owner, but also chartering for short periods of time or hosting large corporate parties. Its large spaces were created with entertainment in mind. The Kismet has five decks above the waterline and three outdoor lounging areas, the main one of which is located on the fourth deck's aft section and features a pool and hot tub complex.

A cinema, a full-service spa, an indoor/outdoor dining space for twelve that doubles as a bar, and a formal interior dining room with a stair leading to a ballroom space are all available on the premises. One of the dark, lush staterooms is adorned with an oil portrait of a pair of lounging jaguars — get it? The master stateroom's bath has the expected gilt fixtures. The sundeck (which includes a swimming pool and a built-in Jacuzzi) was built with the aft end of the pool serving as a skylight for the lift shaft. A spiral staircase leads to one of the yacht's unique features: a private observation platform with an outdoor bed, ideal for stargazing.

Kismet has two helipads, one of which is located beneath the sundeck and can be configured as an outdoor cinema or a nightclub area. The second can also be used as a mini-basketball court. The owner deck has a formal dining area as well as a private area with a Jacuzzi and sun-pads. The aft on the main deck is one of the most spectacular features, with surprising semicircular seating around a unique, retractable fireplace that doubles as a coffee table.

In terms of spectacular features, Khan's superyacht includes a six-foot (1.8-meter) removable jaguar statue honoring the Jacksonville Jaguars. According to Superyacht World, the jaguar motif can be found throughout the yacht, serving as the perfect accent to the opulent interior décor that showcases the finest materials. Aside from the "mandatory" luxurious spa and fully-equipped gym, Kismet includes an elegant piano bar and lounge – there's something for everyone and every occasion onboard this versatile yacht.

Shad Khan: What you should know about the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars

For just the second time during owner Shad Khan’s tenure, the Jacksonville Jaguars are in the NFL playoffs. And for the third week in a row, the Jaguars will play a Saturday night game when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

The primetime game, shown on NBC and its streaming counterpart Peacock, will give the city, the team and its owner a national audience.

For Khan, whose “rags-to-riches" story has captured the attention of Jaguars fans in Jacksonville and beyond, the game marks the latest milestone in the life of the mustachioed self-made billionaire auto parts magnate and the owner of one of just 32 NFL franchises.

Here’s what you need to know about the 72-year-old Shad Khan.

A growing fortune: Jaguars owner Shad Khan's net worth up more than 50 percent, per Forbes

Backstory: Shahid Khan has true rags to riches American story

Shad Khan buys Jaguars: Emotional Wayne Weaver announces Jaguars sold, coach Del Rio fired

Where was Shad Khan born?

Khan was born in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1950. At age 16, he moved to the United States to study at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill. He took a room at the local YMCA for $2 a night, where he stayed until the university’s dorms opened, and took a job working nights as a dishwasher, earning $1.20 an hour.

Who is Shad Khan married to?

Khan married Ann Carlson in 1977, some 10 years after they first met at the University of Illinois. The couple has two grown children, a daughter, Shanna, and a son, Tony Khan.

How much is Shad Khan worth?

According to Forbes.com, Khan’s real-time net worth on April 6, 2023, was estimated at $12.2 billion, ranking him No. 148 in the world. In 2022, Khan’s net worth was estimated at $7.6 billion, up from $2.9 billion in 2013, but down from $8.2 billion in 2017, according to Forbes.

Where does Shad Khan’s wealth come from?

Khan’s primary business is Flex-N-Gate , an Urbana, Ill.-based auto parts manufacturing company known for its one-piece truck bumpers and other components used by automakers BMW, Ford, Nissan and Toyota. In 2022, the company had $7.9 billion in revenue, Forbes reported, and employed 26,000 workers at 69 plants worldwide, making it the 69th largest private company in the United States.

How much of the Jaguars does Shad Khan own?

Khan is the sole owner of the Jaguars, which he bought from Delores and Wayne Weaver and seven other partners for $770 million in 2011.

How much are the Jaguars worth today?

In August 2022, Forbes valued the Jaguars franchise at $3.475 billion, ranking it No. 28 among the NFL’s 32 teams, ahead of the Buffalo Bills, Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals. The value marked a 24% increase from the year prior, Forbes reported.

Where does Shad Khan live?

Khan and his wife live in Naples, Fla., in a 5-bedroom, 6.5-bath, 12,000-square-foot oceanfront penthouse purchased in November 2014 for $11.5 million, according to Collier County Property Appraiser records. The pair also own an apartment on Chicago’s Gold Coast, just miles from Soldier Field, the home of the NFL’s Bears.

What about Shad Khan’s yacht, Kismet?

Built in 2014 by Lurssen, Shad Khan’s Kismet is a frequent fixture on the St. Johns River in Jacksonville’s downtown, most recently from mid-November to mid-December. The 312-foot-long luxury yacht, valued at nearly $200 million , sleeps 16 in eight staterooms and has a crew of 28, according to Moran Yacht & Ship’s website, which lists the Kismet for sale. Among the ship’s features are a private master deck with jacuzzi and access to the yacht’s helipad; a “world-class” gym, swimming pool and full-service spa; and a “one-of-a-kind" retractable outdoor fireplace. In late December and early January, the ship – which has a reported weekly charter rate of $1.2 million – called on Saint Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Philipsburg, Sint Maarten, in the Caribbean.

The 312-foot 'Kismet' is a showman's palace designed with a far-out luxe look that includes gold, black, glass and full walls of video screens.

“The original intention was to make Kismet the most luxurious charter boat on the water,” Captain Dave Andrews told Robb Report . Nearly 10 years since the yacht was launched, Khan is ready to go bigger. His third custom-built Lürssen weighs 5,500 tons—almost double Kismet ’s weight—and is scheduled to be delivered in November. Kismet is listed for sale with Cecil Wright for a cool $160 million and is currently the largest yacht for sale on the market.

A Champagne-colored chandelier by Crystal Caviar is the most obvious feature of his brief to the designers. The statement light hangs in the central lobby next to a sweeping black-and-gold Art Deco staircase, suspended, of course, over a grand piano. There is a glass elevator in the lobby with access to all decks. The overall feel of the yacht is an ornate gentleman’s club with lavish marble, etched glass flooring, gold-leaf finishes, and backlit onyx.

The 312-foot 'Kismet' is a showman's palace designed with a far-out luxe look that includes gold, black, glass and full walls of video screens.

“We either anchor in Canary Wharf or go to the warship mooring downstream of Tower Bridge as the boss likes the view of the bridge,” says Andrews.

The 312-foot 'Kismet' is a showman's palace designed with a far-out luxe look that includes gold, black, glass and full walls of video screens.

The sports theme continues with two full-height video walls—used to display images of Khan’s football players when hosting business events—that flank the central staircase leading into the double-height main salon and continue across the floor, walls, and ceiling. In the sky lounge, a large sports bar opens out across the bridge deck aft for hosting large groups of people. When the party keeps going, it converts into a disco with a built-in sound system.

On the foredeck is a touch-and-go helipad, though it’s never used. Instead, regular games of basketball are played with temporary netting erected to catch any balls that bounce out of court. “We always have a deckhand standing by on a Waverunner,” says Andrews.

The foredeck serves as the owner’s private deck with a Jacuzzi and is also used for yoga. It leads directly into the master suite with twin en suites, a private office, oval skylight, and one of three bioethanol fireplaces. The other two are in the main salon. When lit, they carry a cooler flame than a naked fire. There is also a foredeck fire pit for keeping guests warm on colder nights, which converts into a cocktail table.

Kismet has seven additional guest suites, sleeping 16 guests in total. This includes two VIPs and a sea cabin on the lower deck amidships for guests who suffer from seasickness. There are also crew quarters for 26.

The 312-foot 'Kismet' is a showman's palace designed with a far-out luxe look that includes gold, black, glass and full walls of video screens.

“The spa was mandated by the owners to be a place they can just chill out in,” says Andrews. It has a hammam, a spa bath, a cold plunge pool, a steam shower and a massage room with an onboard spa therapist. Opening shell doors in the gym allow for workouts by the water’s edge. There is also a separate hair and beauty salon, with a dedicated onboard hairdresser.

In the garage is a full chest of water toys and four tenders. Up top, the sun deck is built for lounging, with a pool and hot tub, sofas, sunpads, and outdoor dining under the hard top.

A crow’s nest platform is dedicated to viewing the ocean or sunning in privacy. It just goes to show that even on a vast, 312-foot yacht, cozy, intimate spaces rule the roost.

A rare superyacht believed to belong to one of the world's richest men, has become a regular fixture on the Thames since arriving last week.

The 308ft long Kismet, which was launched in September this year, is widely reported to be the latest toy of Fulham FC owner Shahid Khan.

The Pakistani-American billionaire businessman is the 349th wealthiest person in the world, and the world's richest person of Pakistani origin.

Kismet a sister-vessel to a 223ft yacht formerly owned by Mr Khan, also called Kismet and rechristened Global after it was sold for a rumoured £69million last year) and it is believed that Mr Khan is also the owner of the new Kismet.

The shipyard, Lurssen, appeared to confirm that Shahid Khan is the owner of the ‘new Kismet’ at the launch of the superyacht earlier this year.

black pearl oceanco yacht sails across the atlantic

The story of 106m Black Pearl's long-awaited sail across the Atlantic

It’s taken five years for this groundbreaking yacht to show the world what she’s really made of. So was it worth the wait? Holly Overton gets the inside track from her captain and crew.

Black Pearl was designed to push the boundaries of technology and what was thought to be possible for a 106.7-metre under sail. But even for her captain, Christian Truter, carving through the busy waters of St Barths at 14 knots was a bold move. She was an unexpected guest and her fashionably late arrival to New Year’s celebrations caused quite the stir. “We were heeled over, full sail set, blitzing the anchorage between all the boats,” Truter recalls. This was the first time Black Pearl had ever seen this side of the Atlantic, and she wanted to let the world know she had arrived.

It took six years, a visionary owner, and an army of designers, architects and engineers to build Black Pearl . When she was finally delivered in 2018, she was the largest sailing yacht in the world and by far the most technologically advanced. She was built to cross oceans but, up until last year, had barely strayed from Europe.

“The original plan was to sail around the world,” explains Derek Munro, the owner’s representative. “The owner wanted to show the boat off and show the technology to as many people as possible.” She is essentially a wind-driven power plant with three freestanding masts and 2,900 square metres of sail. Her revolutionary DynaRig was a significant advancement on Maltese Falcon , with 25 per cent more sail area, electric rotating spars that made her more manoeuvrable and a hinged rig that reduces her air draught so she could pass through the Panama Canal. Then there is all the stuff you can’t see: variable-pitch propellers which can produce enough energy to power the hotel load under sail or recharge the batteries, allowing her to cross oceans without burning a litre of fuel; her waste heat recovery system is perhaps the most advanced ever seen on board a private vessel; and her spars, yards and superstructure are even wired for solar.

After the shakedown from the Oceanco shipyard in the Netherlands to Gibraltar, she entered a long warranty period. “There were still some technical elements that needed finishing and [the owner] wasn’t in a hurry. He wanted things to be perfect and he was happy to take the time to do that,” explains Captain Truter. When she finally set sail, Black Pearl logged some serious miles in the Mediterranean, bouncing between Gibraltar and Cyprus, before heading into the North Sea around the tip of Denmark and up into the Baltics.

Any plans for a global tour were put on pause during the Covid-19 pandemic, which kept her bound to Europe. But it was the unexpected death of her owner in 2021 that put Black Pearl in a renewed state of limbo. She sat on the dock in Montenegro for more than a year, occasionally running training sails with the crew, so that when the call eventually came in, they could drop lines and go. That is the beauty of the DynaRig. There are no sheets to run, no stays, no winches, no heavy sails to heave across the deck or covers to remove. You could be off an anchorage with sails set in just seven minutes.

“The boat has been getting prepped to go to the Caribbean for a long time. There was a false start the year before, but this year we knew we were going,” says Truter. She checked into the Adriatic42 shipyard in Montenegro at the beginning of November for her five-year class survey in preparation.

“Winter in the Mediterranean, particularly in the Adriatic, you spend a lot of time watching the weather. It was serendipity that we had a window opening up to dodge low-pressure systems that also aligned with our survey,” says Truter. The last contractors stepped off the boat at 5pm on November 24 and by 8pm the crew was dropping lines and heading to Albania to bunker.

“We sailed across the boot of Italy and up through Messina, and because of the wind – we had 40-plus knots – we hugged the coast of Italy. Once we got up around Capri, we did a beautiful bear away and, with wind on the quarter, sailed towards Bonifacio,” Truter explains. They were chasing the incoming mistral in the Golfe du Lion. “We threw a dart onto the chart at which point we expected the wind to come in on the mistral. And pretty much on that point, we ended up with 40 to 50 knots of wind. We bore away, shortened sail and sailed at 15 knots towards Menorca.”

A brief stop in Palma saw the conclusion of a few inspection items left over from the survey in Montenegro and some time spent poring over weather charts. “It had been a weird year in the Atlantic with a lot of unsettled low- pressure systems quite far south disrupting the Azores high and not really providing great crossing weather. As we were sitting there it looked like a pattern was forming to give us reinforced trades from just south of the Canaries if we hustled,” says Truter.

The crew made haste for Tenerife, where they picked up a couple of stowaways, Munro and the former captain, Chris Gartner, and were soon heading south to catch the weather system that was opening up. “We motor-sailed for a day towards 22 [degrees] north, and as soon as we got into the wind, around 23 [degrees] north, we turned off the engines and set full sail. We sailed the whole way to St Barths from there.”

Reinforced trade winds effectively slingshot them across the Atlantic. The wind was in the high thirties and she was cantering along at up to 19 knots. “We would have gone faster but we were spinning props to create electricity so we could turn our generators off,” says Truter. It is a careful balancing act. Running the regeneration system robs her of a couple of knots but feeds energy back into the vessel. At the same time, they needed pace to stay ahead of the weather system that was nipping at the transom.

Most of the helming is done from the two large wheels on the flybridge with the wheelhouse used only on occasion. And if there is bad weather? “You put your foulies on and get a cup of coffee,” says chief officer Matthew Hopkins.

Black Pearl left Montenegro with 22 crew and collected a few more en route. The 12-day transatlantic overlapped with the festive period and the crew spent Christmas and New Year’s Eve at sea. For almost half of those on board, it was their first Atlantic crossing. “There may have been a ritual,” laughs Truter. “King Neptune [aka Gartner] definitely made himself present.”

On Christmas Eve, Black Pearl caught up to a solo rower competing in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. The crew gathered on the flybridge to sing him We Wish You a Merry Christmas. And the morning after, they had a visit from Santa Claus, aka Munro.

Black Pearl was underway for 20.5 days from Montenegro to St Barths. She sailed more than 80 per cent of the way, averaging 11 knots, and consumed 32,000 litres of fuel over 5,600 nautical miles. (A conventional 100-metre motor yacht would burn around 10,000 litres a day.)

The arrival of Black Pearl into St Barths on January 2 was a poignant moment, particularly for Chris Gartner. Steering from the flybridge with sights on the anchorage, Truter handed the helm to Gartner, who had been Black Pearl’s captain and custodian from the build until last year when he left to join a new project. The journey marked the end of a chapter in his career and the start of a new one for Black Pearl .

With a renewed sense of adventure, Black Pearl is set to welcome others to experience her power and prowess for the first time as she joins the charter fleet. She will offer charterers a unique “Eco Mode” option where the boat will waive any fuel costs to those who agree to mostly sail and, when engine power is necessary, only use the electric motors at a maximum speed of 11 knots.

At the time of writing , Black Pearl is back in the Med but plans to return to the Caribbean. Having completed her first – and now second – Atlantic crossings, the crew are resolute in their commitment to the mission started by her late owner: to cross oceans and leave the smallest possible footprint. “As with any yacht you want to see them out on the ocean chewing up the miles and going to different places,” says Munro. “This was our first big voyage and hopefully the start of many, many more.”

Four Seasons Unveils First Yacht Itineraries and Suite Interiors

Four Seasons loyalists have a lot to be excited about, with the launch of the brand’s first yacht nearing in 2026.

The 14-deck luxury vessel, which is partly being modeled off of Aristotle Onassis’ iconic yacht Christina O , will offer some of the most opulent amenities at sea. Initial renderings released in October 2023 show a 66-foot saltwater pool, a marina deck built for swimming and watersports, sophisticated dining concepts, and 95 guest suites. Now, the Four Seasons has released the first renderings showcasing the spacious suites on board—and we got a first look.

The ship's sleek design seeks to translate “the Four Seasons guest experience in terms of comfort level and the luxury standards" to life at sea, Fredrik Johannson, partner and executive director of Tillberg Design of Sweden and the lead designer on the Four Seasons Yacht, tells Condé Nast Traveler. Even the hotel group’s beloved mattresses will be offered in every room.

The first renderings of the Four Season Yacht's suites were released Tuesday, showcasing spacious guest rooms with ocean views.

Also just revealed: the first destinations the yacht will call upon throughout its inaugural year. Passengers can expect to visit a wide variety of exclusive and jet-setting locales, as the yacht is slated to visit more than 130 destinations across 30 countries in its first year alone. And of course, guests will have the option to book pre-and-post cruise extensions at iconic Four Seasons resorts along the way.

“We’re incredibly proud to announce the first itineraries aboard Four Seasons Yachts, and know that these experiences will exceed our guest expectations when we set sail in 2026,” says Alejandro Reynal, Four Seasons President and CEO.

Each voyage calls upon small ports that are typically considered “yacht playgrounds," Thatcher Brown, the Chief Commercial Officer at Marc-Henry Cruise Holdings LTD and co-owner of Four Seasons Yachts, tells Traveler. Passengers can expect to sail between Caribbean and Mediterranean coastal havens almost exclusively visited by private vessels .

When the yacht launches in January 2026, it will first head to the Caribbean, where it will complete seven-night, island-hopping itineraries between St. Barths, Nevis, the Grenadines, St Lucia, Barbados, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Curaçao, and Aruba.

Then in March 2026, the ship will cross the Atlantic and begin sailing its Grand Mediterranean voyages , which include visits to alluring towns in Croatia, Gibraltar, Montenegro, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Turkey. Travelers can also expect to access “under-the-radar” Greek islands , like Ios and Milos, as well as more popular Grecian destinations like Athens and Santorini, according to a Four Seasons release.

Guests will have the option to adjoin suites to accommodate families or other groups traveling together.

Sure the destinations sound glamorous—but it might be difficult for passengers to depart the ship and leave behind the luxe accommodations on board. Specifically the guest suites—which will offer 50% more living space per guest than any other competitor currently at sea, according to the company’s release.

Each space will offer floor-to-ceiling windows framing views of the sea, bathrooms with double vanities, and large closets. “Almost every single bed on this whole yacht is facing the sea,” Johannson says. “All the rooms there have this clarity to them. They are very exclusive, but they have a beautiful simplicity.”

Every suite will also offer private outdoor terraces. What’s more: guests will have the option to adjoin suites to accommodate families or other groups traveling together. There are more than 100 different adjoining configurations, including the option to reserve the entire side of a deck—an opportunity that would afford a group of travel companions more than 13,000 square feet of living space.

Image may contain Transportation Vehicle Yacht Architecture Balcony and Building

The Four Seasons Yacht will be divided between Funnel and Loft Suites, each with private outdoor terraces.

But the true showstopper on board is sure to be the Funnel Suite. Located on the very top deck where the funnel or smokestack would traditionally be, the Funnel Suite is essentially the ship’s penthouse, spanning four floors and 9,975 square feet. The massive space will feature three bedrooms and a terrace with outdoor dining space, splash pool, and outdoor showers. But the suite’s best amenity will be its views. The four-story, floor-to-ceiling windows have been fitted with the largest piece of contiguous curved glass at sea, offering sweeping 280-degree views of the ocean as the yacht sails from port to port.

Voyages on board the Four Seasons yacht haven’t yet opened for general booking, but interested travelers can join the yacht’s waitlist in hopes of securing one of the elegant suites on the 2026 itineraries.

The owner of a $3.4 million Lamborghini yacht screamed 'I will kill you' and threw $100 bills into the water when told he couldn't use a private dock

  • The owner of a Lamborghini yacht threatened a private dock employee, per CBS8.
  • The employee said Ajay Thakore mooned and threw cash at him after being told he couldn't use the dock.
  • Thakore, the CEO of Doctor Multimedia, issued an apology through his public relations team.

Insider Today

The owner of a $3.4 million Lamborghini yacht threatened a private dock employee after being told he couldn't be there, the San Diego-based broadcaster CBS8 reported on March 11.

Joseph Holt, a 21-year-old employee at Marriot Marina in San Diego, told CBS8 that he spotted the yacht sailing into the private dock. The owner, whom CBS8 identified as Ajay Thakore, tried to pick another person up at the dock, Holt said.

"I told him respectfully that he couldn't be there, and I honestly was hoping to have a conversation with him about his cool boat," Holt told CBS8.

In a YouTube video posted by @SM-wc9eq on March 10, a dark blue Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 is seen sailing out of a dock. A man in a gray T-shirt, a pair of jeans, and a cap was shown standing on the yacht. The man appeared to be Thakore, per CBS8.

Thakore was shown shouting at Holt. "I will kill you, you know I will kill you!" he can be heard saying multiple times in the video

Thakore was later shown pounding his fist on his palm and pointing his thumb down before telling Holt: "To your face!" Holt was shown responding by pointing his middle finger at Thakore.

"I really was trying to restrain myself from getting fired from my job or stepping out of line. The only thing I did was give him the bird," Holt told CBS8.

Related stories

Holt said Thakore then took $100 bills from his wallet and threw them at him. He added that Thakore mooned him. This exchange was not shown in the video.

"He was saying I'm nobody, I'm nothing, I work a silly job. He said that he knows people, he has connections, he can change my life and ruin it," Holt said. Holt did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

The San Diego Harbor Police arrived at the marina 10 minutes after Thakore's yacht exited the dock, per CBS8.

The Harbor Police told Business Insider that Holt decided to press charges against Thakore and that they are investigating the incident.

According to Thakore's LinkedIn page , he's the CEO of Doctor Multimedia. The company's website shows that it's a healthcare marketing firm based in San Diego. Thakore appears to go by the name Ace Rogers on Instagram and TikTok, where he's noted as being a professional gambler.

Thakore, through his public relations team, told CBS8 in a statement that his altercation with Holt was "regrettable."

"What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange," the statement said. Thakore did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.

Thakore isn't the only CEO who's been called out for threatening another person. In November 2021, an Activision spokesperson told BI that its ex-CEO Bobby Kotick had previously apologized for telling his assistant he would have her killed. The spokesperson added that Kotick's threat was "obviously hyperbolic and inappropriate" and that "he deeply regrets the exaggeration and tone."

In June 2020, Lisa Alexander, the CEO of LaFace Skincare, a cosmetics company, apologized in a statement to the media after she had threatened to call the police on her neighbor for writing "Black Lives Matter" on his property. Alexander said in the apology that she was "disrespectful" and "should have minded my own business."
