Canada (Sail) This Month’s Sailor Finally Adjudged

Determined and all-set, Laser Radial, and also Laser 4.7, Laser sailors got together in the venue of Lauderdale for their 1st event of the year 2019. The Yacht Club of Lauderdale in the month of January attracted more than 55 sailors of Laser, battling it out more than 10 races at the event of Lauderdale OCR, which also managed to serve as the Pan Am Canadian qualifier in the classes of Laser Radial and Laser.

SLMASC Hosts NSW Youth Championship

The South Lake Macquarie Amateur Sailing Club is all geared up for the great event that it would ever host. The club will organize the NSW Youth Championship in October on Lake Macquarie. Well, this would be one of the biggest events that the club would run and the management is expecting nearly 350 entries coming in this year. Sailors would take part in 17 classes of boat. There are classes specifically for youth sailors and pathway boats as well for kids as they can sail and race to get into the Olympics in the near future. Also, they can gain some experience so rich as to become professionals as they grow up.

A New Generation For Canada’s Cup

The Canada’s Cup, the premier match of Great Lakes racing trophy, has been contested 24 times between Canada and USA after the first event which held in 1896. USA holds the edge, with 13 to 11, as teams competing in a range of classes over that time.

Famed Yacht Designer Doug Peterson Dies

On one side the United States lost the America’s Cup to New Zealand, and on the other side the man who designed the Cup-winning boats for two countries a Doug Peterson died after a long struggle with cancer.

Doug Peterson, who was 71 years old was the resident of Point Loma and was also the member of the San Diego Yacht Club. The friend Peterson Chris Calkins, said due to heavy illness, Peterson died in a San Diego hospital on the very same day when New Zealand beat the United States in the final race. […]

Welcome to the Toledo Sailing Club!  The Toledo Sailing Club (TSC) was officially formed in 1942 after 4 young men, all aged 15 to 16, became interested in sailing.  Although we started as a sailing club, our docks today are primarily filled with power boats.  For over 75 years members have continued to improve and grow the club through volunteerism and camaraderie of this welcoming organization.

Volunteerism serves as the foundation on which TSC continues to grow and thrive.  TSC is a social boating club made up of enthusiastic and friendly people.  The club provides members, their families and their guests great times through fun events, friendship and entertainment both on and off the water.  Membership at TSC provides docking opportunities as well as cruises to other boat clubs.

Additionally, TSC is perfectly located on the Maumee River. We are right across the street from the Toledo Zoo (#1 rated zoo in the country) and close enough to downtown Toledo to cruise to the “Docks” and attend all of the happenings at Promenade Park.  We look forward to hearing from you about joining TSC!

The windy Russian autumn weather might be a little bit tricky for sailing, but it doesn’t stop brave yachtsmen from all over the world from flocking to Russian capital in the beginning of September when the Moscow Yacht Show commences. The main Russian Yacht exhibition gathers professional and amateur yacht lovers together under the wing of The Royal Yacht Club.

This year it took place for a fourth time already. The exhibition is considered the principal event on the sporting and social calendar. The Moscow Yacht Show 2010 united in one area three of the largest Russian yachts distributors: Ultramarine, Nordmarine and Premium Yachts.

A wide range of yachts were on display for a week. An exhibition showcased yachts both from Russian manufacturers and world famous brands: Azimut, Princess, Ferretti, Pershing, Riviera, Doral, Linssen, etc.

It was a real feast for seafarers as visitors of the show had a unique chance not only to take a look at the newest superyachts before they hit the market, but also to evaluate their driving advantages during the test drive. The show provided an excellent opportunity for yacht enthusiasts to choose and buy a new boat for the next season.

The event started with the grandiose gala evening. It included grand dinner, the concert and professional awards ceremony for achievements in Russian yachting industry. The guests also enjoyed the annual regatta.

Special guest Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Benetti Group president, opened the evening.

Next year organizers assured guests they would bring more yachts, the scale of which will even make oligarch Roman Abramovich envious. Sounds very promising indeed.
