The Superyacht Summer is in full swing. Countless megayachts are cruising around the Mediterranean, with most traffic anchored around the Greek and Italian islands. Gone this year are the traditional Russian oligarch yachts, and in their place, a slew of newcomers, billionaire stalwarts, and celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio and Beyoncé.

The legendary superyacht showdown started early this Summer with several high-profile billionaires (Jeff Bezos, David Geffen) starting in Ibiza and heading to Capri, Sardinia and St. Tropez. Yachts will anchor off the coast and send their high-profile guests via tender to popular seaside restaurants like Lo Scoglio in Sorrento and Casa Jondal in Ibiza. Many will stay throughout the Summer visiting neighboring islands while shuttling back to the mainland to pick up their owners and guests.

Nicolas Benazeth, Director of Charter at CharterWorld , says, “With people still making the most of post-Covid freedom, the Mediterranean has again been the major hotspot for superyacht charters this Summer. In the east, Greece continues to be one of the main destinations, thanks to its hundreds of beautiful islands offering endless cruising options for yachts and its beauty, culture, and deserved reputation for safety and hospitality.”

“The Adriatic, and Croatia in particular, is also very popular with clients and yachts, despite having a slightly shorter summer season,” he adds. “Cruising there is hassle-free with much-improved infrastructure, relatively short distances, and a lot to see and do both at sea and on land. The more traditional superyacht destinations in the West Mediterranean, such as France, Italy, and Spain’s Balearic islands, are still going strong, and it is often hard to find a space for your yacht in St Tropez, Capri, or Ibiza ports this Summer.”

Capri is an iconic star-studded island in Italy’s Bay of Naples, best known for its crystal blue waters, designer boutiques filled with supermodels toting $50,000 handbags and having aperitivos at Grand Hotel Quisisana or the luxurious newly opened Hotel La Palma. Among the billionaire-owned superyachts visiting the island this month were Rising Sun (owned by Entertainment mogul David Geffen / 453 feet), Aquila (owned by Walmart heiress Ann Walton Kroenke ,) and Koru (owned by Amazon head Jeff Bezos / 417 feet).

Croatia is a mix between Game of Thrones medieval and modern, with its quiet coves surrounded by fortresses along the seafront, making this a popular superyacht destination. Most yachts stay away from the crowded Dubrovnik and anchor outside small villages along the Adriatic coast. There are numerous sanctioned oligarch superyachts in the area as well. There are over 200 inhabited Greek islands and about 6000 uninhabited. From Ithaca to Mykonos, there’s something for everyone. Charter World lists the most popular superyacht destinations in Greece as Hydra, Lefkada, Folegandros, Zakynthos, Symi, Santorini, and Mykonos. Among the superyachts visiting the islands this month were Infinity (Home improvement magnate Eric Smidt / 383 feet), Phoenix 2 (Chartered by Magic Johnson, and Owned by VC Tech guru Sebastian Kulczyk / 295 feet), Senses (Google founder Larry Page / 194 feet), Vertigo (Media icon Rupert Murdoch / 220 feet).

This infamous Balearic Island in Spain is best known for its over-the-top parties and decadence. It’s also well known as a leading superyacht destination, offering quick access to clubs, beachside restaurants, and private coves like Cala d’Albarca, Es Canaret, and Cala Codolar. Among the superyachts visiting the island this month were: Atlante (Moncler CEO Remo Ruffini / 180 feet), Main (Fashion icon Giorgio Armani / 213 feet), Mogambo (Whats App CEO Jan Koum / 240 feet), Nebula (Whats App CEO Jan Koum / 224 feet), and Synthesis (PokerStars / founder Mark Scheinberg / 243 feet).

Palma de Mallorca is one of the most popular superyacht destinations, with its historic port on the coast's western side. The Spanish island is a prime spot for perfect weather, stunning beaches, and chic nightlife. Positano is a small iconic coastal town on the Amalfi coast in Italy and is a popular destination for superyachts, celebrities, and billionaires. ‘Reluctant Traveler’ Eugene Levy Tours Superyachts in Saint-Tropez | Exclusive Video

“Turns out if you make suits for a living, you can afford a pretty big boat,” the “Schitt’s Creek” star observes.

Eugene Levy learns how much it costs to park a superyacht in luxurious Saint-Tropez, France in this exclusive clip from Friday’s episode of “The Reluctant Traveler.”

In the video, Levy sips champagne as he’s given a marina tour of the coastal town, which was made famous by French sex symbol Brigitte Bardot, who bought a villa there in 1958.

He’s shown yachts such as the massive black craft owned by fashion designer Giorgio Armani. “Turns out if you make suits for a living, you can afford a pretty big boat,” Levy observes.

Commenting on the fact that George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Beyoncé also keep yachts in Saint-Tropez, Levy says, “I’m assuming they text ahead to figure out who parks where.” The daily parking fee for a yacht in Saint-Tropez, by the way? 3,000 Euros, or, at the current exchange rate, $3,284.64

The episode also finds the actor hanging out with “Dynasty” star Joan Collins, trying oysters for the first time and donning a beekeeper’s suit to learn the craft while in Provence.

The second season of the Apple TV+ show, which debuted its first two episodes last week, finds the “Schitt’s Creek” star visiting various cities in Europe, including Glasgow, Scotland and Seville, Spain.

In the first season, the travel-averse host visited Finland; Costa Rica; Venice, Italy; Utah; the Maldives; South Africa; and Lisbon, Portugal and Tokyo.

“The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy” is produced for Apple TV+ by Twofour and is executive produced by Levy, David Brindley, Nic Patten and Sara Brailsford. 

Reflecting on his time working on “The Reluctant Traveler,” Levy told TheWrap that he can see himself doing the show for another 10 years or so, but suspects others will “have something to say about that.”

“I’m loving the show — I love David, I love the production team,” Levy said. “It’s like a giant reunion every time we get together and come back and do the show. That helps make it fun for me, too, because if it wasn’t that pleasant a job to do, this show wouldn’t be working at all.”

New episodes debut each Friday through April 12.

It is written into the once sleepy fishing village’s DNA, morphing from free-spirited bohemia into star-studded partying and then, more recently, hosting the global bling brigade. The glamorous chapter began in earnest when And God Created Woman was filmed on its pine-flanked shores, and Brigitte Bardot placed Saint Tropez on the world map. The French New Wave, Parisian Left Bank coterie were leaving the pages of their books to bake in the French Riviera sun well before. And despite its 21st-century agenda of rampant revelry—the Champagne-popping-diamonds-and-stilettos-welcome—the village’s bohemian spirit and Riviera elegance live on. You just need to know where to find it.

Cheval Blanc St-Tropez Arrow

Cheval Blanc Saint Tropez has two serious local brags that curiously seems to precede both its three Michelin -starred restaurant and lavishly restrained interiors: it has access to a beach (more a small patch of white sand) and is a hop, skip, or Bentley nano-second away from Saint Tropez, unlike its Ramatuelle competitors. A tastefully contemporary expression of Riviera glamour, this Côte d’Azur maison comprises the original Pinede Chateau, extended and retuned inside for a less formal (but no less fabulous) set. This is where quiet luxury comes to play, to recline on creamy sun loungers following gourmet Truffle Croque-Madame lunches, or to inspect the hotel’s feast of modern art before a caviar and Champagne tasting menu, courtesy of Chef Arnaud Donckele. Rooms dressed in sumptuously simple blues and creams echo the views across a sequin bay to Saint Maxime, therapists work Guerlain potions into weary shoulders in the spa, and impeccably dressed waiters glide across the pine-shaded terrace, topping up paper-thin glasses of Ruinart.

Hôtel Lou Pinet Saint-Tropez Arrow

There is something endlessly glamorous about Saint Tropez’s laid-back spirit. You’ll find it in droves at Hotel Lou Pinet where rooms are dressed in shades and prints from the ’60s and ’70s, and mint shutters lining a typically Provencal exterior blink out over one of the Riviera’s most ravishing pools, lined with turquoise tiles. Subdued colors and materials echo the region’s more rustic reputation—olives, creams, wicker, and terra-cotta—and ahead-of-her-time Tata Harper has whipped the spa into eco-shape. Breakfast here is a photogenic affair—finessed spreads of bircher muesli, perfectly baked bread and pastries, fresh fruits, and cold cuts, enough to stretch on till midday where Saint Tropez’ sandal and Tropezienne delis await only 10 minutes away.

Lily of the Valley Arrow

This relatively new arrival to the Cote d’Azur may share other five star hotels' cinematic Riviera views and cool, contemporary interiors, but its agenda is unique and, perhaps, prophetic. Philippe Starck’s walnut ceilings, daring marble bathrooms, and offbeat rustic spaces high in La Croix Valmer play host to new thinking on luxury travel—where wellbeing is no longer confined to a Swiss lake but sits alongside tapas lunches and lazy pastry breakfasts. This is where the well-heeled (and well-tired) come to recharge without the Opus Dei flavor punishment, but equally without the heavy hangover of an overindulgent week. The spa has therefore had to up its game for this new breed of Riviera roller—who sign up to three holistic programs (weight loss, sport, and detox) or go at their own turmeric-shot and Technogym pace. Shades and materials both inside and out feel as organic and nourishing as the plates of poached fish and seasonal salads. The pool lords over trippy, Mediterranean views and reminds the one-only cocktail crowd (who occasionally slip off the wellness wagon) that wellbeing and pleasure were always bedfellows.

Airelles Château de la Messardière Arrow

It’s hard not to be wowed by this pretty, turreted beauty which has recently been gutted and glammed up by haut hoteliers, Airelles. The views of the pine woods and vine-combed hills sloping down to Saint Tropez Bay and Pampelonne from Château de la Messardière are as splendid as its interiors. Curtains are stiffer than Martinis, palatial panelling traces the walls and le grand gôut francais is swapped for something fresher and marginally more Provencal. When not playing pétanque or Mini Moking off to the Chateau’s Pampelonne spot on the legendary stretch of sand, guests can spend an afternoon soaking, steaming, and generally luxuriating in the Valmont spa. Elevated brasserie-style plates arrive poolside from Matsuhisa restaurant while La Table de La Messardière puts on the full Provencal charm.

La Réserve Ramatuelle Arrow

The epitome of contemporary calm, La Reserve Ramatuelle hides away from the Côte d’Azur crowds in the pine-shaded hills, 20 minutes inland from Saint Tropez. The traditional terra-cotta tiles dressing its villa and suite roofs belie the minimalist feast inside—the work of Jean-Michel Wilmotte who brought the splendid simplicity of the landscape indoors with spoiling effect. The pool scene (apparently ripped from a book of Slim Aarons prints) is animated by golden sunlight and endless glasses of rosé. Jasmine clings to the air and Mini Mokes whizz guests to La Reserve’s Pampelonne outpost, where plates of ceviche and tomatoes sprinkled in truffle line up like the cream umbrellas shading those digesting a long, lavish lunch.

Airelles Saint-Tropez, Pan Deï Palais Arrow

India -meets-Saint Tropez. This mustard townhouse confounds guests with its shuttered exterior concealing a dark-wooded Raj-era scene inside. The boutique hotel is built on a love story—where a 19th-century British general fell in love with an Indian princess, who later took her grief and rich color palette to Saint Tropez. Old-world fans and four posters dressed in white linen curtains set an exotic tone, and while splashes of burnt orange, lime, and crimsons animate the rooms, the bass note is earthy and restrained. The theme spills out into a walled garden, where the pool (which could have been a Raj pond in a past life) is lined with white parasols and thick, cushioned loungers. Its central location in the old town—a seven-minute walk to the beach—is staggering given its overall feeling of serenity and calm.

Byblos Arrow

Imagine a hotel that blends a pastel-hued Provencal fishing village with an ancient Lebanese port, replete with ancient Greek references and Roger Capron ceramics. Gay-Para, the Lebanese billionaire who created it, did exactly that, but he also imagined it would win over Saint Tropez queen Brigitte Bardot, for whom he had an unwavering obsession. It didn’t, although she politely attended the opening party. But it did win the hearts of the glitterati, shortly followed by the deep wallets of Europe’s fortunate few. This is a fabulous, unapologetic vestige of the Riviera’s golden era, where heavy silver trays of seafood sit on balconies and Chanel heels strut to poolside dinners for live jazz and lobster. Mick and Bianca married here and the legendary nightclub, Les Caves Du Roy, continues to lure in the celebrities and high rollers, all drunk on the iconic party snaps of Grace Jones (and Veuve Clicquot).

Villa Marie Saint-Tropez Arrow

Rather than the choreographed and contrived interior overhaul, usually conducted by a Parisian design house, Villa Marie has the comforting eclecticism of a private home. Swirly white wrought iron chairs, pillared verandas shaded by vines, and statues smothered in jasmine evoke a sense of nostalgia—a longing for a slower, sophisticated age. A variety of rooms (some with four posters, some vibrant orange, some brandishing the typical hallmarks of boudoir shabby chic) all inhale the salty, warm breeze through french doors. A distinct absence of integrated editing lends Villa Marie its bohemian appeal, just with the buttoned-up service you’d expect from a top Cote D'Azur hotel. Picturesque gardens fan out beneath the pines, where guests roam and recline among olive trees, palms, and cacti. The only discernible theme, aside from elevated bohemia, is white and cream with red accents on table clothes and poolside sun loungers, and regular sightings of Domaine de Marie wine (from the hotel’s sister maison in the Luberon).

The bohemian allure that once drew an illustrious Parisian clientele of Left Bank writers, jazz musicians, and glam 1950s film stars still prevails at this stylishly refurbished 21-room village townhouse hilltop hotel that overlooks the red-tiled rooftops and mythic cove where Vadim shot starlet Bardot in  And God Created Woman.  Everything from the unfussy neo-Provencal decor reinvented by designer Fabrizio Casiraghi—rooms decked out in creamy white, sand-colored walls; polished wood; and terra-cotta tiled floors—to the terrace restaurant headed by chef Thomas Danigo, is an ode to the Mediterranean.  Highlights: late-night fêtes in the plush retro bar and beachside sunrise sessions with Le Tigre Yoga Club.

Exclusive restaurant concept launched on board superyacht in St Tropez

Jaan is the most unique new addition to the St Tropez fine dining scene, bringing bold Indo-Asian flavours to a superyacht anchored in the bay of St Tropez  for a limited time only.

Now open for the summer season, Jaan is a unique restaurant and premium bar concept hosted on board the 30m/98ft motor yacht VERVECE in the St Tropez Gulf. 

Fusing the unbeatable setting of a superyacht with modern French cuisine infused with flavours from Calcutta, the venue promises a gastronomic journey for the senses.

The restaurant concept will be open between July and August, with a dedicated tender service to transport diners to and from the main port in St Tropez.

A world-renowned Chef

The restaurant is headed up by Priyam Chatterjee, a world-renowned chef whose innovative approach to cuisine earnt him a special mention in Forbes India 30 under 30 List last year. 

His wealth of experience in Bengali gastronomy has crowned him with numerous prestigious accolades, and he is now bringing his signature brand of fine dining to the French Riviera.

The restaurant's central dining area is located on the main deck aft, where diners can enjoy their meals alfresco while feeling totally connected to the sea and the surroundings.

In addition, there is an open-plan interior dining salon that is light, airy and furnished in neutral tones with warm suffusions of orange. 

The eight-course menu is announced each week and varies to ensure ingredients are fresh and seasonal.

Flavour-forward cocktails

The cocktail bar is headed up by experienced mixologist Lillian Sausset.

Jaan also places strong emphasis on decadent cocktails, which puts Lilian Sausset’s expert mixology front and centre.

Sausset has an inventive flair for creating punchy drinks using unusual ingredients, and diners can expect each perfectly-prepared cocktail to complement the phenomenal cuisine and equally resplendent setting. 

Luxury tender service

Diners arrive to Jaan via tender, and are then free to explore the yacht and soak up the vistas over the Mediterranean with a drink in hand.

Before and after their meal, diners can take advantage of the well-appointed sun deck and upper deck aft. From here, diners can expect incredible panoramas over the setting sun and later, a star-studded sky.
