F1 driver Lewis Hamilton's Sunseeker 90 yacht

Lewis Hamilton has been racing for a long time. With his experience comes the success that he has achieved in the past few years. Having been at the top of the standings for multiple years, it’s no doubt that his F1 team will be willing to pay big money just to keep him in the team and compete for more championships. Driver salaries are based on success rate and experience in the sport.

In Sir Lewis Hamilton’s case, it is pretty obvious that there is a massive sum of money attached to the Mercedes driver’s contract . He reportedly earns about 40-50 million dollars every year. With this king of money at his disposal, the British driver clearly didn’t hold back on ultra luxurious purchases. An example of that is the Sunseeker 90 Yacht that is owned by the 7 time world champion.

Lewis Hamilton is a driver with a massive sense of fashion. The driver has even hired a person to style him for his day to day fits. The moment you see Lewis in the paddock during race weekends, you will see why he gets all the attention. His outfits are a clear indication of the life that he likes to live. The yacht is blessed with a luxury interior equipped with ‘American walnut carpentry’. It includes features such as air conditioning, a chef’s sized kitchen and a huge entertainment system.

The yacht also houses an area fit for barbecues and has features that make water sports accessible for the guests. With the plethora of features that the yacht has to offer, it’s an ideal choice for anyone seeking a luxurious experience. The Sunseeker 90 is kept in Monaco, a destination that is known for its racing prestige.

Lewis Hamilton has had an incredible season provided the machinery that he had to deal with. With the 2023 season incoming, it will be interesting to see how Mercedes and Lewis fight back to grab the 8th title. It won’t be an easy fight since Red Bull and Ferrari will probably be just as competitive. However, anything can happen in this sport.

On the 10th of December 2004, at the Bahrain Grand Prix Circuit, he won the 1st Bahrain Formula 3 SuperPrix

In 2006 Lewis signed for the GP2 Championships. Typically, he won the championship in his first year of racing.

Leaving behind the Old Port of Cannes for berths at the famous Port Hercule, charterers were today treated to a breathtaking performance from one of F1’s most interesting characters.

As we pointed out in an earlier story, the T-Dock is beginning to fill up as the superyachts migrate from the historic ports of Cannes .

With the sun breaking through the clouds around the French Riviera , visitors to the practice session this afternoon returned to sunbathing and sipping cocktails whilst watching the action unfold in front of them.

Unquestionably one of the best opportunities for an event charter, the Monaco Grand Prix has long been associated with yachting in the Mediterranean .

As the drivers prepare for the pivotal race this Sunday, we take a look at some of the charter yachts attending this year’s edition.

Superyacht Romea with her tenders and toys

Perfectly suited for event charters, the 82m/268ft motor yacht ROMEA from Abeking & Rasmussen features an abundance of exterior space for enjoying the race.

Indeed, with a bridge deck large enough to host a home cinema, the area is just as impressive during the day, with an attachable bimini for shading when necessary.

A finalist for an interior award at the Showboats Design Awards this year, both the private and social spaces onboard are replete with contemporary flourishes and comfortable seating arrangements.

What’s more, M/Y ROMEA always includes a dedicated office space for anyone needing to attending to business whilst on charter.

Arguably the most classic of event charters, the Monaco Grand Prix combines the world’s most exciting sport with the unique charms of the Mediterranean

Superyacht VICKY

Another large yacht attending the Monaco Grand Prix 2016 is the 73m/238ft motor yacht VICKY .

Delivered from the Turkish shipyard Proteksan Turquoise, VICKY packs plenty of wow factor and provides charterers with numerous outdoor spaces in which to enjoy their environment.

Winning first place for ‘Recreational Area for Guest Use’ at the Showboats Design Awards 2013, and ‘Quality and Value’ at the World Superyacht Awards 2013, M/Y VICKY all but invites prospective charterers to take her to Monaco.

For parties keen to keep things going through the night, there’s also a professional DJ booth and dance floor- two features sure to be popular as she sits at anchor a short distance from Port Hercule.

An aerial view of superyacht OKTO

Boasting a truly distinctive profile which ultimately earned her the award for ‘Best Exterior Design’ at the World Trophies 2014, the 66m/217ft motor yacht OKTO will no doubt be turning more than a few heads as she joins the proceedings this week.

Renowned for her silent cruising, M/Y OKTO is also regarded as an effortlessly cool charter yacht with a large swimming pool on the aft deck complemented by an engaging Alberto Pinto interior.

Whilst the abundance of outdoor deck space is sure to offer more than enough room for partying, the retractable balcony attached to the master suite provides a nice spot for guests to get away from it all at a moment’s notice.

F1: The ultra luxe life of Lewis Hamilton, 7-time world champion and maximalist at large

By Parth Charan

F1 The ultra luxe life of Lewis Hamilton | GQ India

He may have sold his private jet, turned vegan and switched to driving electric cars off-track, but Lewis Hamilton isn’t exactly a minimalist. As the highest paid F1 driver, Hamilton was reportedly paid a cool $30 million (Rs 225 crore) in 2021 alone, which combined with his endorsement deals and investments nets him career earnings exceeding $500 million (Rs 3,705 crore).

As one of the world’s richest and most successful athletes, it stands to reason that there are several high-value possessions in Hamilton’s name. So, what does “the Hammer” spend his half a billion dollars on? Plenty, as it turns out.

What Lewis Hamilton spends his big bucks on:

Hamilton owns some pretty valuable slices of real estate across the world. While the recently knighted British racer, much like several F1 drivers, resides in the tax-free confines of Monte Carlo (where he owns a sea-facing bachelor pad), he also owns a Manhattan Penthouse worth $44 million (Rs 326 crore) and a six-bedroom London villa. According to The Sun, Hamilton purchased the West London villa from Burberry chief designer Christopher Bailey. The property is said to have a 200ft garden area with its own independent summer house. As for his Manhattan penthouse – a condo project part-owned by NFL legend Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen – it has everything from a state-of-the-art gym, pool, squash court, library and wine cellar.

He also owns an apartment in Geneva, Switzerland (his second home) where he goes to escape the limelight, and so the details of his Geneva home aren’t well known.

Image may contain Transportation Vehicle Boat and Yacht

The Challenger 605 jet may be gone, but Hamilton can still be found spending his downtime on his private Sunseeker yacht. A 90-foot-long $4 million (Rs30 crore) luxury performance yacht comes with a built-in sundecks, BBQ, modular lounge seating and a dining area for eight (among other things). When not being used for parties, it can usually be found parked by the bayside in Monaco or Nice.

Hamilton has joined the league of successful F1 racers turned team owners. However, Hamilton sees the future of racing to be in more sustainable forms of motorsport (even F1 aims to go carbon neutral by 2030) and so, has put his millions in the Extreme E electric off-road racing series. Called the X44 racing team, it’s due to make its racing debut soon, with venues set in remote locations that have been strongly affected by the climate crisis.

Hamilton has one of the most extensive (super)car collections of any modern-day F1 racer. Apart from his daily driver, there’s nothing in here that isn’t superlatively quick.

The 6 monster vehicles in Lewis Hamilton's garage:

Instagram content.

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Given that McLaren gave Hamilton his first big break in the world of racing, it’s fitting that his garage houses one of the fastest models in the world. Hamilton purchased this hybrid hypercar back in 2015. The P1 costs approximately Rs 17 crore (excluding taxes) and is powered by the combination of a 3.8-litre, 727hp V8and a 177hp electric motor. Only 375 examples were ever made, all of which were sold out. Hamilton’s blue P1 was driven straight to his Monaco home by McLaren’s employees.

Although Hamilton’s daily driver is an all-electric Mercedes EQC, there lies in his garage, an F1-inspired road car, which was developed with the help of Sir Lewis himself. Much like Lewis’s “work” car, the One has a V6 turbo along with four electric motors. Collectively it puts out 1200 horsepower and hits 100kph in an eyeball eviscerating 2.2 seconds. Only 275 of these hyper-exotic models will ever be built. Given it’s similarities with his F1 car, this is something that is likely to stay in his garage, long after he has retired. It’s price? A measly $2.72 million (Rs 20 crore, excluding taxes).

Completing the hybrid hypercar holy trinity is Hamilton’s candy-apple red LaFerrari. Ferrari could very well be on Hamilton’s horizon in the not too distant future, and his love for this landmark piece of Maranello engineering, (which costs Rs 11 crore, minus taxes). Another F1-inspired piece of tech, the LaFerrari features a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) system which helps it put out nearly 1000 bhp. Fitting for an F1 racer’s garage.

The late Carroll Shelby’s pièce de résistance, the Cobra is an Anglo-American motoring gem, which, if in good nick, can set you back by $7 million (Rs 51 crore). Hamilton’s Cobra 427 was vetted by Shelby himself, making it something of a collector’s item, since a non-replica version is almost impossible to find these days. Which is why Hamilton bought two of them. One for posterity and one to cruise around on sunny mornings.

Another Carroll Shelby masterpiece, the Shelby GT500 has been immortalised in both film and on the racetrack. Although not driven often by Hamilton, whose F1 reflexes don’t mix well with lumpy muscle car handling, the ‘Stang does hold a special place in Hamilton’s garage, for its old-school 7.0-litre, V8, the likes of which will be extinct very soon. In an interview with British GQ, Hamilton said that he “bought the car because he’d seen Steve McQueen drive one in the movie Bullitt . In fairness, McQueen drove a ‘68 Mustang GT Fastback, but we can see many other reasons why the G.O.A.T would be compelled to buy the one with the magical Shelby touch. A good one today will cost approximately $1.2 million (Rs 8.9 crore)

Unbeknownst to most, Hamilton is an avid biker. Which is why MV Agusta, purveyors of Italian exotica, built him a bespoke version of their iconic F4 superbike. The inline-4, litre-bike, penned by the divine hand of Massimo Tamburini, is often considered the most beautiful modern-day motorcycle. Hamilton’s bike was given the LH44 label (combining his initials with his official racing number) MV produced a limited run of the LH44 bikes, priced at Rs 54 lakh (minus taxes). Hamilton, we reckon, got it for free.

The private jets of formula one.

Many drivers have owned private jets over the years.

  • Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso are currently the only Formula One drivers known to own private jets, with Verstappen owning a Dassault Falcon 900EX and Alonso owning a Dassault Falcon 900C.
  • Other drivers, including Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris, often hitch rides with Verstappen to and from races due to their close proximity in Monaco.
  • Lewis Hamilton used to own a Bombardier Challenger 605 jet but sold it in 2019 to align with his sustainability values, while Michael Schumacher owned a Dassault Falcon 2000EX before his accident and his wife sold it later. Niki Lauda, before his passing, was also a private jet owner, including a Bombardier Global 5000.

Traveling fast often becomes a way of life - be that on the ground or in the air. If adding to that, you travel away from home and all over the world for the better part of the year, it makes sense that you would want as efficient a means of transportation as possible. As such, it comes as no surprise that over the years, several Formula One drivers have opted for private jets. With environmental concerns ever more important, ownership is less than it once was, however. Plenty of drivers will charter aircraft to head to races - but currently, only two drivers are known to own private jets.

Max Verstappen's Dassault Falcon 900EX

One of the most famous jets out there belongs to the current Formula One world champion - Max Verstappen . The Red Bull Racing number one driver owns a Dassault Falcon 900EX operated by Dutch private jet charter company Exxaero.

This trijet, registered as PH-DTF, has a maximum range of 4,725 nautical miles and a top speed of 893 kph. He bought it from none other than Virgin boss Richard Branson in 2020, reportedly spending €13 million ($14 million).

Verstappen regularly offers other drivers, including Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris, a lift to and from the races. As many of the F1 drivers live in Monaco, it makes for convenient ride-sharing.

Fernando Alonso's Dassault Falco 900C

According to Planetf1.com, Spanish driver Fernando Alonso is the only other driver to currently own a private jet. Alonso is the oldest driver in the championship currently, having left twice to keep coming back. He also owns a three-engine Dassault Falcon 900 aircraft (with registration EC-JNZ).

Want answers to more key questions in aviation? Check out the rest of our guides here .

While these two may be the only drivers to have their own jet currently, many more will use private jets to get to races. Chartering as you go is becoming increasingly popular with VIPs and celebrities - not just for cost benefits but to help with environmental impact and image. The video below shows plenty of drivers departing from the Belgium and Dutch Grand Prixs in 2022 by private jet.

Sir Lewis Hamilton sold his jet in 2019

Meanwhile, seven-time world champion and Mercedes driver Sir Lewis Hamilton used to own a Bombardier Challenger 605, registered as G-LCDH (Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton). However, the recently knighted Hamilton sold the burgundy bird back in 2019 to better live up to his own sustainability standards. Hamilton's dog, a bulldog named Roscoe (he used to have two, but Coco sadly passed away in 2020), still apparently flies private from time to time, according to the pup's social media accounts.

Michael Schumacher and his legendary M-IKEL

Another legend with the same number of titles as Sir Lewis, Michael Schumacher, also had a private jet. Before his tragic skiing accident in the French Alps, the German driver owned a silver eight-seat Dassault Falcon 2000EX. Reportedly, it flew for an astonishing 300 to 400 hours per year while he was still driving. It was registered as M-IKEL and had the initials MS stamped on its tail. His wife sold the jet a few years ago.

A familiar Formula One/aviation name is Andreas Nikolaus ‘Niki’ Lauda . Before his passing in 2019, the former racing driver and entrepreneur was an influential force across the board. Along with the founding of various aviation enterprises, he was also a fan of private jets. The racing legend was one of the first people in the world to own a Bombardier Global 5000 aircraft but also owned other jets (including a Global 6000).

Transporting the cars

Jets also play a crucial part in this ground sport in the broader sense. DHL has been teaming up with Formula One for approximately four decades to ensure cars and parts are smoothly delivered across the continents. The shipping specialist uses its planes based in Munich and London to fly 1,400 tons of equipment from one GP to the next.

What are your thoughts about the private jets of Formula One drivers? These things change quickly, so let us know about any other jet ownerships or regular usage you know of.

Mind-Blowing Lewis Hamilton Facts You Need to Know

By jonny noble.

Lewis Hamiton and Toto Wolf

Though his results speak for themselves, and no driver has matched Lewis’s record, there are facts about Lewis Hamilton you may not know.

  • He has started the race from pole position more time than any other driver ( 104 ).
  • He has won 103 races which is more than anyone else.
  • He has won more podium finishes ( 191 ).
  • He has led more races from start to finish ( 23 )
  • He has won more championships (7 which ties with Michael Schumacher) than any other F1 driver.

These facts show how wrong people are when they say Lewis’s only succeeded because of the car he was driving. There is no question that it helped, but none of his teammates driving the same car achieved the same success. In the junior series, he still achieved records.

Even though 2022 was a year most Mercedes fans would prefer to forget, we should never forget that Lewis has dominated F1 for fourteen years. Alongside Michael Schumacher, he holds the record of seven world championship wins. If Abu Dhabi had turned out differently in 2021, he would hold a record eight world championships.

Are Sir Lewis Hamilton’s Parents Wealthy?

While they were not on skid row, Lewis’s parents were a normal middle-class family who could not be described as rich.

One of the results of this is that he has a common touch and relates to people across all socioeconomic levels.

In his early career, he was racially abused and constantly reminded that he was not on the same level of wealth as the other kids.

His dad is reputed to have said that he shouldn’t retaliate but instead should let his results speak for themselves.

Being seven times world champion is all the talking that needed to be done.

He showed the depth of his character by returning to F1 in 2022, and even though the team had a lousy year, he stuck it out and is now suggesting that he is not finished yet.

Does that mean a possible 8th world championship?

What College Did Sir Lewis Hamilton Go To?

Lewis studied at the John Henry Newman School in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.

Does Lewis Hamilton Do Track Walks?

Lewis has never felt the need to walk the Formula One track at the start of the weekend.

He has raced at all of them so many times that he knows every corner and straight.

How Much Does Lewis Hamilton Earn?

In 2022 Lewis is the driver with the highest base salary of $55 million. He does not get a bonus.

In comparison, Max Verstappen received a base salary of $40 million and a bonus of $20 million, making him the highest-paid driver on the circuit.

Does Lewis Hamilton Have A Wife And Children?

Lewis doesn’t have a spouse or children.

Who Is Lewis Hamilton’s Brother?

Lewis is very close to his half-brother, Nicholas. Nicholas and Lewis have the same dad.

What Cars Does Lewis Hamilton Own?

Check out our detailed article on each of Lewis Hamilton’s cars.

Lewis has a very specific car collection of 13 cars which are based in Monaco and Los Angeles.

As a result, the cars he has purchased all have a specific value reason why he obtained them.

The value of Lewis Hamilton’s car collection is approximately $20 million.

The collection includes.

Mercedes-AMG One

Mercedes-AMG One

Sir Lewis is on the list to receive one of 275 limited edition Mercedes-AMG Project One in 2022.

There have been no announcements advising whether this transaction is completed yet.

Lewis owns a US$ 300,000 SLS Black, a V8 engine producing 622 horsepower.

It is capable of accelerating to 62 mph in 3,5 seconds.

Mercedes Benz AMG GTR

Lewis owns an AMG GTR valued at US$189,000.

Mercedes Benz AMG G63 6X6

Lewis owns a Mercedes Benz AMG G63 6X6, which costs $615,000 and which he purchased in 2015.

1966 Shelby 427 Cobra

This car was first manufactured in January 1965. It has a hand-built steel frame body and an aluminum body attached.

The exceptional vehicle is worth US$5,000,000.

1967 Shelby Cobra 427

This is the next model of his 1966 version described above. It is worth $2,1 million.

Lewis purchased the P1 when he left McLaren to join Mercedes. It is valued at $1.15 Million.

Ferrari LaFerrari

Lewis loves Ferrari and owns a LaFerrari powered by a hybrid engine valued at $1.4 Million.

Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta

This car is the Ferrari La Ferrari Aperta open-top cousin.

It can cruise at 200 mph.

Mini Cooper

This was Lewis’s first car in his collection and is probably being held onto for sentimental reasons.

Can-Am Maverick X31967

This is simply a fun side-by-side vehicle.

Cadillac Escalade

Lewis owns a Cadillac Escalade valued at $76,195

Ferrari 599 SA Aperta

In 2012 Lewis bought a rare open-top (Aperta) Ferrari 599 for an estimated $1.6 Million.

Sir Lewis Hamilton Has His Own Yacht?

Lewis owns a 90-foot Sunseeker yacht.

Has Lewis Hamilton Won A Race At Every Circuit?

Lewis has won at 28 circuits in his career. This means that there are only six circuits he has not been triumphant at.

Unfortunately, only Zandvoort at the Dutch Grand Prix is still racing, and therefore it is unlikely he will get a chance to win at the remaining five.

These include.

  • France – Magny Course.
  • Spain – Valencia Street Circuit.
  • Korea – Korea International Circuit.
  • India – Buddha International Circuit.

Who Did Lewis Drive For Before Mercedes?

McLaren was the first team to take a bet on Lewis.

He spent two years at McLaren, was world champion in his second year, and came second in his rookie year.

How Many World Championships Has Lewis Won?

Lewis has won seven championships, the last being in the 2020 season.

He would have won the 2021 world championship; however, being neck and neck with Max on points, the driver who won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix got to take home the championship.

Louis was comfortably in front of the pack and was leading the race when a crash occurred, and the safety car came out. Red bull took the opportunity to give Max a fresh set of tires and re-joined the race behind the back runners.

In an absurd turn of events, the race director, Michael Massey, allowed Max and no other driver to lap the rear cars. This placed Max directly behind Lewis (on a fresh set of tires.)

If Michael Massey had followed the rules, this is how the race would have finished. Instead, Massey brought the safety car, which allowed Max, on the newer tires, to overtake Lewis and win the race.

Is Monaco On Lewis’s Win List?

As suggested earlier, most circuits are on Lewis’s win list, and Monaco is no exception.

He has won at this street circuit three times.

Did Lewis Hamilton Meet Queen Elizabeth?

Her Majesty Quen Elizabeth personally awarded Lewis with an MBE in 2009.

It was an occasion that affected him deeply, and he maintained a close love of the queen until she died in 2022.

How Does Lewis Hamilton Spend His Millions

There is no question that Lewis enjoys his wealth. He has a house in Los Angeles and one in Monaco,

Perhaps unlike many other drivers, Lewis uses his money to finance projects he cares deeply about.

He is particularly passionate about children and the effects of racism worldwide.

Sir Lewis Hamilton’s Own Charity Is Called – Mission 44

Facts About Sir Lewis Hamilton

Lewis formed the Hamilton commission, which studied why black people are underrepresented in F1 and other technology-based fields in most United Kingdom and found that.

Only 2% of teachers in the UK are black.

Almost half of the schools in the UK have no  teachers of color at all.

Lewis has invested £20 million of his own money to capitalize the charity Mission 44 (44 being his racing number.)

Each year Mission 44 recruits 150 black students and helps them with STEM subjects in the hope that they will become Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) teachers in England.

Lewis Gives To The Honeypot Children’s Charity

Honeypot Children's Charity

This charity is mandated to support under-18-year-olds who, through circumstances, have become the primary caregiver in their home.

The reasons these children are placed in this position include parents dying, the normal caregiving parent becoming seriously ill, disabled, or suffering from an uncontrollable addiction.

This incredible charity aims to support these children, who are often as young as five years old!

With failing social services, these poor children are often left as the primary caregiver twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. They end up looking after their younger siblings and their parent.

Lewis Gives To UNICEF

UNICEF does incredible work worldwide, providing relief to children in war-torn countries during cyclone activity or a big freezing chill.

They provide assistance irrespective of language, culture, or religion.

How Did Lewis Hamilton Get Into F1

Lewis is the stereotypical F1 prodigy.

He started racing radio control cars when he was six years old and won trophies competing against adults. This was one of Lewis’s happiest memories when he spent so much time with his dad.

At eight years old, Lewis began racing go-karts, where he showed his natural talent and ability. Some of the accolades won by young Lewis included.

  • In 2006 he joined the GP2 Championships, which he won in his first year.

Lewis Hamilton –  F1

In 2007, Lewis joined McLaren’s F1 team.

This was the beginning of a two-year stint in which he almost won the championship in his first year (he came second)

Lewis Hamilton Facts – F1 Score Summaries

Which race was lewis hamilton’s favorite.

Lewis has picked the 2021 Brazilian Grand Prix as his “best race ever”. He started from 10th place on the grid and charged forward to overhaul championship leader Max Verstappen for the win.

This achievement placed him back in contention for the drivers’ championship.

What Actually Occurred At The 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix?

The 2021 season finished with the promise of a massive duel between Lewis Hamilton   and Max Verstappen.

Hamilton had won the previous two races (The Brazilian and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix) and drew level with Max on points. The finale was to be held over 58 laps of the 5.281-kilometre Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi

Max started on pole ahead of Lewis who was alongside in second position. Hamilton had a lightening quick start and pulled ahead of Max into the first corner. Max has the faster straight line speed and tried to overtake Lewis into turn six.

Lewis took evasive action and managed to hold onto the lead.

Max was aggrieved and questioned why Lewis had not been penalized.

After a pit stop found Lewis behind Sergio Perez, there seemed to be some danger – particularly as Max’s Mexican teammate was doing a great jib holding Lewis up.

The Mercedes demonstrated the pace that had won the Brazilian and Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and powered past.

On Lap 53 of the race, Nicholas Latifi crashed at Turn 14, which resulted in the Safety Car being deployed.

The time behind the safety car reduced Lewis’s 13-second lead over Verstappen. With the 5 cars of lapped traffic between the Lewis and Max, the British driver was safe from the Red Bull.

Max had used the safety car to pit for new tires (Hamilton was still on the hard tires).

Enter Michael Masi – Stage Left

The lapped cars were informed they wouldn’t be allowed to overtake the Safety Car and thus give Hamilton a crucial buffer over Verstappen.

Lewis Hamilton Facts - Michael Masi

On Lap 57, the race director Michael Masi broke the rules and allowed the five of the seven lapped cars to unlap themselves, which put Max in a position to have a free run at Hamilton.

The race restarted with just one lap remaining, and Max, on new tires was able to take the lead and become 2021 F1 world championship.

It was an unforgivable end to the season and race director Michael Masi paid with his career by being sacked. There are not many fans who disagree with that outcome.

This does not detract from Max’s amazing performance however I think that he would agree that it would have been better to win under other circumstances.

Are Lewis Hamilton And Max Verstappen Friends?

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen could never be called friends.

There is a noticeable animosity between the two rivers, which extends to the team principals ( Toto Wolf and Christian Horner.)

Max is the only driver who has been a consistent competitor and matches his incredible skill level.

The debacle in Abu Dhabi in 2021 did not help the situation. If Max had not been allowed to move past the lapped cars, he would not have won the championship.

As bitterly disappointing and unfair as the F1 decision was that day, Louis still has the grace to congratulate Max.

Max is reputed to have said that he hated Louis in 2021.

One of the few benefits of the terrible season Mercedes has in the 2022 season is that it has taken some of the pressure off Max and Louis’s relationship.

Louis has maturity and wisdom on his side and has said that he always tries to look for reasons why people behave the way they do. This has allowed him to have a different take and be less hot-headed than Max.

Both drivers say that they respect each other’s driving ability.

Are Lewis Hamilton And Valtteri Bottas Friends?

Facts About Lewis Hamilton

Valtteri Bottas and Lewis have had an exceptionally good relationship during Valtteri’s time at Mercedes.

With Valtteri having moved to Alpha Romeo for the 2022 season and being able to find his feet as the senior driver, the relationship with Lewis has remained solid.

Are Lewis Hamilton And Daniel Ricciardo Friends?

Lewis has supported Daniel through the very difficult year that Daniel had in 2022.

Having lost his seat at McLaren in 2022, it was uncertain whether he would remain in the F1 paddock in 2023. While he doesn’t have a full-time driver seat, he is returning to Red Bull as their spare driver.

Louis has said that he hopes Daniel finds his way back to the grid in 2024.

Lewis Hamilton is a remarkable ambassador for F1 and life in general. He has a rigid personal discipline; he is afraid of no one when it comes to honestly speaking his mind, and he is gracious and kind to those who may be suffering or who are not as fortunate as him.

With his celebrity status and vast wealth, he has not lost the common touch and remains approachable and generous – Oh yes, he can also drive a car!

British GP: Inside Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton's multimillion pound Sunseeker fit with a professional sized kitchen

He's even posted pictures of himself on the vessel to his legion of Instagram followers

  • Updated 14:46, 3 JUL 2022

Lewis Hamilton of Great Britain and Mercedes GP gives a thumbs up as he leaves the circuit on a boat after qualifying for the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix

It is no secret that Dorset is home to the headquarters of a world-class yacht company that has many celebrity customers. Sunseekers International is a British luxury yacht brand based in Poole, but has since become a worldwide company, sought after by the rich and famous.

The likes of Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman , and F1 racing tycoon Eddie Jordan have their very own Sunseeker superyachts, but the list of known celebrities who own one of these luxury vessels appears to be growing. The latest famous face to own a fancy yacht is F1's seven time winner of the World Drivers' Championship title, Lewis Hamilton.

The F1 champion owns the impressive Sunseeker 90, which he reportedly bought for an eye-watering $4 million (£3.1m), according to Crash . The latest yacht model is now estimated to be worth a whopping £6.1 million, but could even reach up to £9 million once its been upgraded.

Hamilton's Sunseeker is around 27.10m in length and offers a sleek interior design. The vessel can hold eight guests in four cabins, plus room to sleep some of the crew members.

Crash reports that the luxury interior is said to be of 'American walnut carpentry' equipped with air conditioning, a professional chef’s sized kitchen and a huge entertainment system. Other impressive specs include the yacht's speeds, which can reach up to 30 knots, and a cruising speed of 22 knots.

There is even an area fit for barbecues, so it seems an ideal yacht for socialising and relaxing. It also features the Bezenzoni ‘Ladder Gangway’, which allows guests to effortlessly access the watersports on offer.

The vessel is often kept in Monaco - apt for the world-class racer, as the destination is known for holding the prestigious F1 Grand Prix races. Hamilton is no stranger posting his lavish lifestyle to his 28.8m legion of followers on Instagram.

The 37-year-old has shared some photos of himself lounging on the Sunseeker 90 and enjoying the views of some of France's most scenic coastlines. He is due to next appear at the British Grand Prix, which will take place at Silverstone on Sunday, July 3.

Sir Lewis Hamilton drives during a practice session before Formula 1's 2023 Dutch Grand Prix.

It’s the Thursday of race week, and Hamilton is in a relaxed mood. We’ve taken over team boss Toto Wolff’s office in the Mercedes motorhome at Amsterdam’s Zandvoort circuit. It’s a spartan space with an unimposing desk in one half of the room, and a cramped seating area with two chairs at either side of a small table in the other.

Drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell at the Circuit Zandvoort prior to the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix.

Hamilton, his braids largely hidden under a headband emblazoned with the word “Tommy,” is sporting a black team shirt and a huge pair of black boots. The ensemble is strikingly offset by a high-contrast white ceramic IWC Big Pilot’s Watch, specifically, a $40,900 perpetual calendar version known as the Top Gun Lake Tahoe (“Have you seen this?” he asks excitedly, passing me his watch).

Sir Lewis Hamilton at Circuit Zandvoort just prior to the 2023 Dutch Grand.

Does he still feel motivated? He does. “That’s easy!” he says. “I still love racing. More than ever. I always feel I can be better. When I hit a limit, I love the challenge of figuring out how to strengthen my body to get past that. It’s that idea you can get better at everything. So I’m going to be here for a good chunk of time. You’re definitely going to get tired of me.”

Who he’ll be driving for next season is still a source of pit-lane conjecture. He’s been with Mercedes since 2013, but has yet to sign a contract extension. Some have suggested he might head to Ferrari, although he’s denied he’ll move.

Members of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team leap into action as Hamilton makes a pit stop during a practice session for the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix.

If anything, Hamilton seems entirely relaxed about his future, prepared to wait it out. “I’ve always been a risk taker,” he says. “When someone says ‘you can’t climb that tree,’ I’ll climb it, even if I’ll almost certainly fall out of it.” As if to prove the point, he tells a story about a near-death experience a couple of years ago when he paddled out to Hawaii’s notorious Banzai Pipeline, an iconic surf break, with surfing legend Kelly Slater. “Kelly was like, ‘there’s no way you’re going out there,’” Hamilton says, his eyes sparkling at the memory of the 25-foot wave. “And I was like, ‘Kelly, I’m going out.’”

This IWC Big Pilot’s Watch is a perpetual calendar version known as the Top Gun Lake Tahoe.

He says that, on the track, his risk-taking has matured. “When I was younger, I was reckless,” he admits. “I took a lot of risks and I was very fortunate not to get injured. Now, you can measure risk smarter. I’ve always been good at knowing my limit, and my limit is higher than most people’s. And I’ve always been comfortable when I’m close to the limit.”

Sir Lewis Hamilton drives during a practice session for the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix.

Next month, he’ll introduce a third collaboration with IWC, a watch he considers a bigger creative risk than anything the two have worked on together before. “With this new watch, I wanted to take it to the top and do something exclusive,” he teases. “At the beginning, everyone’s cautious because they don’t know how well it’s going to do. But then things fly.”

Hamilton will be hoping his car gives him wings, this weekend. “I’ve been itching to freakin’ get in the car all day,” he says, that smile breaking into a boyish grin.

Editor’s note: For the 2023 season of Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton is currently fourth in the World Drivers’ Championship, while Mercedes-AMG Petronas is second in the World Constructors’ Championship. The Dutch Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, August 27, at 9 a.m. EDT.

Formula 1 is never enough to satiate the hunger of Lewis Hamilton for thrill and adrenaline. During the mid-season breaks and the off-season, the Briton engages himself in adventure activities. Among those, skydiving and surfing are his favorites. However, he had something really special planned to celebrate his 38th birthday. That was a trip to Antarctica, among penguins and seals, on an ultra-luxurious yacht.

America’s Favorite Video Today

Hamilton just went through one of the worst Formula 1 seasons he has ever had in his 16-year career. The Briton, for the first time, went through a full season without a race win. A place where he could find peace and gather his thoughts is exactly what he needed to come back stronger for the upcoming 2023 season.

The 7-mile run, even in the off-season, in treacherous conditions, shows Lewis’ commitment to his health. Modern F1 drivers are fitter and leaner than their earlier counterparts. The commitment to excel is praiseworthy as they all have pretty tough training regimes and diet plans.

Hamilton revealed why he loves adventure sports and activities

In 2020, Lewis appeared in an interview with Desus & Mero for Showtime. They talked about his various experiences, ranging from Met Gala to rivalry with Max Verstappen. But one part of the interview that caught our attention was when he talked about the need for adrenaline when he’s not racing and the activities he engages himself in.

“I love surfing. I sky dive, love skydiving,”  he said. The shocked hosts asked him if he was “ an adrenaline junkie.”  Hamilton answered, “ Yeah, you basically have to substitute it. Because the races. You’re on this massive high and when you come after the race, the next couple of days, you’re just crashing down. Then you hit a low. Then you have to pick yourself back up. You’re back into training. So I usually fill it in with things, fun activities in between training.”

FORMULA 1 ace Lewis Hamilton frolics on a luxury yacht with stunning supermodel Bella Hadid in the Monaco sun - just hours after a race.

The three-time Brit champion was pictured partying with newly-single Hadid just hours after finishing a lowly seventh at the Monaco Grand Prix over the weekend.

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel won the race on the famous streets, and by doing so stretched his championship lead over Mercedes' Hamilton to 25 points.

Keep up to date with ALL the latest F1 news, gossip and rumours

Hamilton was left baffled after his Mercedes car struggled for grip around Monte Carlo on the ultrasoft and supersoft tyres.

He has not won a title since 2015 and finished just an agonising five points behind former team-mate Nico Rosberg, who subsequently retired from the sport.

But it seemingly did not bother the 32-year-old as he stripped down to his swimming shorts with Hadid and plus on a mega-swanky yacht on the famous coastline.

And former F1 champ Hamilton seemed relaxed right after a poor race in the Monaco Grand Prix

Formula One auto racing star Lewis Hamilton got a new luxury jet, a $27 million candy-apple-red Bombardier Challenger 605 with Armani curtains. He also got a refund on the value-added tax.

And the lawyers at Appleby , an elite law firm founded in Bermuda, were there to help.

They teamed with the London-based accounting giant Ernst & Young to craft an arcane plan to sidestep the VAT, a consumption tax charged in Europe on everything from socks to cars. One of the conditions: Hamilton’s inaugural flight would have to touch down on the Isle of Man, the British crown dependency in the Irish Sea known for its lenient tax treatment of the world’s super-rich.

“This will involve a short stay, normally less than 2 hours,” Appleby said in a written explanation of the tax-avoidance strategy .

The four-time Formula One world champion was up to the challenge. He and his girlfriend, Pussycat Dolls pop star Nicole Scherzinger, planned to make a layover on the Isle of Man on their first time out to Europe on his new jet in January 2013, according to an itinerary sent to Appleby.

Whether Hamilton actually made the trip could not be learned. But in the end, he did pick up a $5.2 million VAT refund, according to secret documents reviewed by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, the BBC, The Guardian, and more than 90 other media partners.

The documents come from the internal files of offshore law firm Appleby and corporate services provider Estera, two businesses that operated together under the Appleby name until Estera became independent in 2016. The files, which are now called the Paradise Papers , were originally leaked to the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung and shared with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.

In a statement to The Guardian, Hamilton’s lawyers said that the race car driver has a set of professionals in place who run most aspects of his business operations on his behalf and that no subterfuge or improper levels of secrecy have been put in place.

Shielding offshore trillions

The episode opens a window onto a low-profile network of lawyers, bankers, accountants, financial advisers and other professionals who operate offshore in the gray international area between tax jurisdictions. This global system exists largely to shield assets from taxes, creditors and competitors and has been instrumental in luring trillions of dollars offshore, leaving other taxpayers to make up the difference.

An offshore subspecialty that handles private jets and mega-yachts has prospered even as concerns about the wealth and privileges of the global 1 percent have grown.

The yacht-and-jet offshoring business extends far beyond secretive tax havens and discreet law firms. It has involved U.S. banking giants such as Wells Fargo & Co., respected regional banks such as the Bank of Utah, and U.S. legal powerhouses such as Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. The banks have helped create trusts that have enabled otherwise ineligible foreigners to register jets in the United States, which can increase their resale value. Akin Gump helped an Arab monarchy qualify for a VAT refund on private jets it wanted to turn into spy planes. Ernst & Young worked with Appleby on a range of tax-related matters.

A spokeswoman for Wells Fargo said the bank is in the process of exiting the business of acting as trustee for foreign owners of non-commercial jets. “As a regular course of business, Wells Fargo evaluates its products and services to make sure we deliver the best experience for our customers while maintaining appropriate risk levels,” she said.

Alex Cobham, chief executive of Tax Justice Network, a U.K.-headquartered nonprofit that fights financial secrecy, said offshore ownership of luxury planes and boats is “a symptom of global inequalities.” These arrangements allow the rich to exploit the weaknesses of the international tax system through “hidden ownership and circular financing schemes,” he said.

Leaked documents from Appleby and other sources reveal a long list of rich and super-rich individuals who rely on offshore operatives to handle the tax issues and other challenges involved in owning luxury planes and boats. Among them: celebrities like Hamilton; the crown prince of Saudi Arabia and other royalty; and politicians and figures connected to them, such as Russian President Vladimir Putin’s friends the billionaire brothers Arkady and Boris Rotenberg.

Donald Trump and Prince Mohammed bin Salman

U.S. President Donald Trump, too, has taken advantage of offshore arrangements to organize ownership of private aircraft.

Leaked documents from the Bermuda corporate registry, not related to Appleby, list Trump as the owner of a Bermuda shell company that in turn owned a Boeing 727 jet used by Trump, who put it up for sale in 2009. Trump disclosed the company, D.J. Aerospace (Bermuda) Ltd., in his election disclosure filings. Trump’s offshore ownership of the jet has been previously reported. The jet is now owned by Weststar Aviation, a Malaysian company.

The Wall Street Journal reported in December that another Trump aircraft – a Boeing 757-200 he used during his presidential campaign – is controlled through a complex ownership and leasing setup involving limited liability companies; the arrangement could have enabled Trump to avoid paying $3.1 million in New York sales tax upfront and to instead pay it in installments spread over many years.

Trump and Rotenberg did not respond to requests for comment from ICIJ and partners.

Isle of riches

A craggy, rain-swept island otherwise known for its tailless Manx cats, the Isle of Man has long been a key outpost in the offshore industry, thanks in large part to its close but ambiguous relationship with the United Kingdom.

It has a “partnership” with the U.K., but it controls its own domestic policy — and has turned itself into a hub in the global financial system by offering low tax rates and tolerating high levels of corporate secrecy. It didn’t have an aircraft registry until 2007 but now maintains the largest offshore plane registry in the world, with roughly 1,000 private airplanes, each generating fees for the island’s financial services industry, the Isle of Man’s biggest employer.

The registry’s growth is in part due to the Isle of Man’s lenient VAT policy and tolerance for arrangements that exploit it. Appleby alone has been responsible for creating companies that owned at least 48 private jets with an average price of $33.9 million, according to an analysis of the law firm’s internal documents by the BBC and ICIJ.

Appleby also has a big business in registering yachts, particularly in the Cayman Islands, where it has set up offshore companies that claim ownership of dozens of yachts and ships. The owners of these vessels include the royal families of the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, Russian fertilizer billionaire Andrey Guryev and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. Guryev did not respond to request for comment. An Allen representative declined to comment.

On the Isle of Man, Appleby has drawn big-name customers by creating offshore arrangements that push the boundaries of EU tax rules, according to international tax experts contacted by ICIJ and its partners the BBC and The Guardian.

For instance, the Isle of Man grants, on a case-by-case basis, pre-approved exemptions that are not subject to public scrutiny. EU member states could choose to offer similar exemptions to the super-rich, but political pressures constrain them from doing so.

In 2011, under pressure from the European Union, the United Kingdom tightened a rule that had allowed owners to avoid the VAT if the aircraft weighed more than 8,000 kilograms.

That created an opening for firms on the the Isle of Man, which has access to the giant EU market through its relationship with the U.K., to attract even more offshore business.

Some of the complex Isle of Man arrangements don’t appear to meet the criteria set out in the EU’s VAT-exemption language, tax experts said. EU language, for instance, requires companies to be real operating businesses and not “letterbox” companies. “It doesn’t pass the smell test,” said Maria Martinez, a former international tax attorney now with the antipoverty nonprofit Oxfam America, referring to the Isle of Man’s handling of many tax arrangements.

After ICIJ partners sent questions about the arrangements to the Isle of Man’s government, its chief minister, Howard Quayle, called an October 23 press conference and declared: “We have found no evidence of wrongdoing or reason to believe that our customs and excise division has been involved in a mistaken refunding of VAT .” He added, “The Isle of Man is not a place that welcomes those seeking to evade or abusively avoid taxes.”

At the same time, however, Quayle announced that he had invited the U.K. treasury to conduct an assessment of the Isle’s jet-registration business.

And in response to The Guardian and ICIJ questions, the government disclosed that VAT refunds for 231 jets registered on the island had totaled more than $1 billion. Without the Isle of Man structures, much of that revenue would have gone to EU countries where the planes would have been registered.

How Lewis Hamilton’s jet deal flew

The exemption that Appleby helped secure for Formula One champ Hamilton’s jet, for instance, shows how expansively the Isle of Man interprets EU aircraft rules.

Appleby began with a pitch to Hamilton and his representatives: “By working with Ernst & Young LLC as a VAT specialist and through the use of their dedicated VAT Deferment Account together with appropriate structuring, the need to fund the VAT would not be required.”

CANADA'S ELITE

Justin trudeau’s chief fundraiser linked to offshore tax maneuvers.

Officials from Ernst & Young and Appleby, and other advisers, exchanged emails and held conference calls to puzzle over how to deal with EU rules, which allow VAT refunds for private planes only when they’re used for business purposes by real companies that operate in the EU.

Appleby set up an Isle of Man company called Stealth (IOM) Ltd. to lease the jet from Hamilton’s British Virgin Islands holding company, Stealth Aviation Ltd., and import the plane to the Isle of Man and, thus, thanks to the island’s relationship with the U.K., into the EU. The letterbox company then subleased the plane to TAG Aviation Ltd., a third-party jet operator in England.

But EU rules require that the company that imports the plane be a real – not a shell – company that actually operates in the EU. Only “fixed establishments” are eligible, and a fixed establishment is defined as having a “sufficient degree of permanence and a suitable structure in terms of human and technical resources to enable it to provide the services which it supplies,” according to EU rules.

Stealth (IOM) Ltd. has no employees. Knock on the door at 33-37 Athol St. in Douglas, the capital, and you’ll find an Appleby office that also serves as headquarters for more than 1,100 companies and trusts. Stealth (IOM) has no staff and no building of its own. It has a “brass-plate” address and a single director, General Controllers Ltd. – another Appleby shell company used as a “nominee director,” a stand-in for the controlling parties.

Although the importing firm clearly exists only on paper, Isle of Man officials pre-approved Hamilton’s arrangement. After that, all that was required was a layover on the Isle of Man for customs to sign the jet’s paperwork allowing the VAT refund. Neither Hamilton nor his plane ever had to visit the island again, even though the firm that imported it is incorporated there.

Appleby sold its Isle of Man jet operation and the rest of its fiduciary business to the unit’s managers in early 2016; the new company took the name Estera.

In their statement, Hamilton’s lawyers said Stealth (IOM) Ltd. is not a shell company and was formed to run a leasing business and hire the aircraft on a long-term basis at a commercial rate. They said the company made all necessary disclosures to Isle of Man officials, who approved the approach.

The lawyers said that reducing taxes was not the motive for the arrangements, but even if it had been, it is lawful to lease, rather than buy, to reduce the VAT.

They added that it was not correct that Hamilton had paid no VAT on any of the arrangements.

In a separate statement, Ernst & Young said commercial leasing arrangements such as those used by Hamilton constitute entirely legitimate commercial practice. The accounting firm said that as a commercial business, the import company is entitled to reclaim the VAT incurred on its business asset against the VAT which it is due to pay on the import of the aircraft into the European Union if the aircraft is being used wholly or predominantly for business purposes by the end user.

It said the relevant consideration for such arrangements is where the aircraft flies (not where the aircraft is bought, leased to or leased from). Ernst & Young said it advises clients they should consider whether VAT needs to be charged for all flights within EU airspace and added that it is not able or required to monitor a client’s use of an aircraft on a day to day basis following registration.

“All our advice, whether in planning or compliance, is based on our knowledge of tax law and providing transparency to tax authorities,” Ernst & Young said in the statement.

It could not be learned whether any Hamilton entities paid VAT on trips within the EU.

EU rules forbid VAT refunds for personal jet purchases and imports. Hamilton, however, received a refund even though he had planned to use the plane for non-business purposes one-third of the time, according to draft leases in the Appleby files. And his social media feeds and website often flaunt his private use of the plane. One video, uploaded to Hamilton’s YouTube account, shows him, his dog Coco, and some friends aboard the plane, followed by scenes of him cavorting on four-wheeled dirt bikes in Colorado and dancing and drinking at a 2015 festival in Barbados.

The jet was used primarily for business purposes, Hamilton’s lawyers said, adding that on the few occasions that it was used for private purposes, a proper hire charge was invoiced and paid.

An unsigned statement to the Guardian on behalf of the Isle of Man government, said the government is committed to enforcing tax rules. “Whilst it is clear that no jurisdiction in the world could ever guarantee that instances of evasion, abusive tax avoidance and error do not occur on an individual basis, the Isle of Man is committed to ensuring that it is not used by those seeking to evade taxes or to abusively avoid taxes,” the statement said.

The statement added that in October 2016 the government began “to review the accuracy and efficacy of the declarations being made to it” by the roughly 270 aircraft ownership arrangements there.

Such arrangements aren’t so unusual among the very rich.

The United Arab Emirates – one of the world’s wealthiest countries – sought to avoid the VAT with help from Appleby. In 2012, the authoritarian Persian Gulf monarchy bought two Bombardier Global 6000s for $120 million and committed to paying $98 million more to convert them into high-tech spy planes.

Because it’s a state, the UAE wasn’t eligible to register an aircraft in the Isle of Man. Appleby and Washington-based Akin Gump lent a hand. Appleby created a shell company called Advanced Integrated Systems (IOM) Ltd. that could register the aircraft on behalf of the UAE.

Appleby also received assurance from the island’s customs officials that the planes wouldn’t be taxed. Akin Gump helped arrange Appleby’s registration of the plane, according to emails sent from its lawyers to Appleby. Neither Akin Gump nor the UAE returned requests for comment.

Not all such maneuvers, in the Isle of Man or elsewhere, are particularly complicated.

When Mohammed bin Salman, now crown prince of Saudi Arabia, bought the mega-yacht Serene from Russian vodka billionaire Yuri Shefler for $456 million, it was docked in the Port of La Ciotat, in the south of France. (The hefty price bought 30,000 square feet of living space, including an underwater viewing room, a climbing wall, a cinema and an indoor seawater pool, as well as space for 52 crew members. The yacht also has a helicopter hangar, at least five onboard boats and a submarine garage.)

Advisers proposed motoring the 439-foot yacht to international waters in the western Mediterranean and closing the sale there, according to documents sent from the American law firm Baker McKenzie to Appleby in 2015.

It couldn’t be learned if the plan was ever carried out. It’s unclear if any VAT was paid. A spokeswoman for the Saudi government declined to comment, as did Baker McKenzie.

Martinez, of Oxfam, said moving yachts is a common tax-avoidance strategy. “If you’re in international waters, no country can claim it,” she said. “It’s stateless income.” Whether the sale closed in international waters and whether the location was part of a tax-avoidance strategy could not be learned.

American flyers

The lucrative business of working around ownership problems for aircraft and yachts has also attracted U.S. financial institutions. Appleby worked at least nine times total with Wells Fargo and Bank of Utah to create trust structures enabling noncitizens to register jets in the United States.

The Bank of Utah served as a trustee on one such deal involving natural-gas oligarch Leonid Mikhelson, deemed by Forbes the richest man in Russia, with a fortune estimated at $17 billion. Appleby made arrangements that included creating an Isle of Man branch of Mikhelson’s Panama company, Golden Star Aviation Ltd., which leased a Gulfstream G650 from a Cayman Islands company to also avoid VAT in Europe on the $60 million plane. (Golden Star Aviation’s president is listed as James Ackroyd-Cooper, a personal trainer in Suffolk, England.) The arrangement saved Mikhelson up to $12 million, according to Isle of Man documents approving the exemption from the 20 percent tax. Using the Bank of Utah as trustee also gave Mikhelson access to the U.S. jet registry, which would likely increase the plane’s resale value.

“Mr. Mikhelson acts strictly within the boundaries of the law and in compliance with applicable legislation at all times,” a spokesperson said. “He does not deem it necessary to provide any comments on his personal property activities.”

Gabriel Zucman, an assistant professor of economics at the University of California, Berkeley, and the author of “The Hidden Wealth of Nations,” said tougher information-sharing requirements for the offshore industry are required to stop the wealthy from avoiding taxes. “This confirms that the offshore system benefits a tiny elite who uses it to avoid and sometimes evade billions of dollars in taxes,” he said. “Unless we are willing to accept ever rising inequality, this situation is unsustainable.”

Appleby cut its ties to Mikhelson after U.S. authorities retaliated against Russia’s 2014 invasion of Crimea by blacklisting his natural-gas company, Novatek, along with other businesses and people tied to Putin.

This confirms that the offshore system benefits a tiny elite who uses it to avoid and sometimes evade billions of dollars in taxes. Gabriel Zucman

An Appleby official wrote that, “with regret,” he had to advise Mikhelson’s representatives of the law firm’s decision to end relationships that were directly or indirectly connected to entities or people on the U.S. sanctions list. Appleby helped transfer Mikhelson’s arrangements to another Isle of Man firm.

The Bank of Utah applied to renew Mikhelson’s plane’s registration with the Federal Aviation Administration in 2016, two years after his company was sanctioned, according to FAA records.

In an interview with an ICIJ partner, The New York Times, Bank of Utah trust officer Joe Croasmun said the bank took seriously its obligations to know its customers and to be on guard against suspicious activities. When asked about the bank’s relationship with Mikhelson, Croasmun went to look in the bank’s files. When he returned, he said that the bank was indeed trustee for Golden Star Aviation but that he couldn’t find any mention of the Russian businessman.

“His name is not in there,” he said.

In a later statement, Croasmun said, “We view our risk management processes to be a living and breathing methodology, always growing to implement best practices and enhancing our country risk assessment as the world changes. We are currently doing a review of all countries we have designated as ‘higher risk’ – including transactions involving Russia.”

"Lewis Hamilton does not have the qualities that Max Verstappen has": F1 pundit Ralf Schumacher

F 1 Pundit Ralf Schumacher feels Lewis Hamilton does not have the same qualities that Max Verstappen has. The dynamics between these two drivers have continued to evolve over the years. In 2021, when Lewis was the defending champion, Max was the young charger.

Since the culmination of the title battle that year, the roles have changed as Max Verstappen has assumed the role of being the benchmark in F1. Lewis Hamilton, on the other hand, has been limited by the uncompetitive Mercedes and has found it hard to even win a single race.

In 2025, Lewis Hamilton will move to Ferrari as part of a mega deal for the driver. Ralf Schumacher is not entirely sure what the driver brings to the team, as it is already on the ascendance.

Talking to Formel1, the German questioned what the driver could bring to the table, especially since he doesn't have the same qualities that Max Verstappen does. He said:

"He will certainly bring his expertise and insights, but I think Ferrari is already well on its way. Hamilton won't be able to contribute too much. I'm sure Vasseur wouldn't pay that much money for nothing. He will offer and give Hamilton everything to ensure he can perform."
"Hamilton is of course a seven-time World Champion and a fantastic driver. But I don't think he has the qualities that Verstappen has. I don't think he is as consistent as Verstappen. And he cannot get that extra tenth out at any cost."

Fernando Alonso's former boss comments on Lewis Hamilton's motivation

Fernando Alonso's former boss, Flavio Briatore, had also questioned what value Lewis Hamilton would bring to Ferrari. The Italian claimed that the Mercedes driver might struggle to keep up with Charles Leclerc , his future teammate.

Briatore also felt that Lewis did not put much effort into racing if the car was not good. The Italian told RAI.

"He is one of those drivers who doesn't put much effort into it if the car isn't good. Hamilton has to feel like he can win to be able to drive fast."

Lewis shocked the world by announcing that the driver would be leaving for Ferrari in 2025 and cut short his current contract with Mercedes. In terms of statistics, the driver has the best resume in F1 and is considered one of the elites on the grid. At 40 years of age, the kind of impact he would have is something that we will have to wait and watch.

Lewis Hamilton car collection: Take a closer look at his incredible private garage

Lewis Hamilton's Shelby Cobra from his car collection

Lewis Hamilton's Shelby Cobra from his car collection

Unsurprisingly, seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton boasts an impressive set of cars in his private collection.

Lewis Hamilton’s day job may see him driving the fastest machinery in the world around the race track but, even when he gets home, the British driver has access to some of the most spectacular road cars in the world.

Hamilton has an impressive stock of supercars and hypercars tucked away in his private collection, worth an estimated £13 million – and is widely reported to have owned another car worth almost that amount just on its own!

However, in recent years, Hamilton has been open about the fact that his private collection of cars is scarcely used – Hamilton has become increasingly climate-conscious throughout his career and has chosen to only selectively drive the petrol-powered behemoths in his garage.

Instead, Hamilton’s private collection sits quietly in his garages at home in Monaco and Los Angeles, with a small but hugely impressive and wide-ranging collection of carefully curated machinery.

Let’s look at the cars Hamilton is known to have, or had, in his collection.

Pagani Zonda 760 LH

The eagle-eyed amongst you may have copped the ‘LH’ denouement after the model name. And you would be correct: it’s not a coincidence.

Hamilton owned a £1.6 million Pagani Zonda which was specifically manufactured as a bespoke option for the World Champion, before selling it off during 2021.

Pagani manufactured five special-edition Zonda 760s which were special orders – Hamilton was one of them. Interestingly, one of the other five, the 760 ‘Viola’ is now owned by Hamilton’s former friend Adrian Sutil and is based in Monaco.

The car is capable of 0-100km/h in three-and-a-half seconds, and was fitted with a manual gearbox – at Hamilton’s request.

“The Zonda is terrible to drive!” Hamilton once commented on the car. “It’s the best-sounding car I own, but handling-wise it’s the worst.”

This might explain why Hamilton was involved in a collision in Monte Carlo in 2015, that resulted in damage that required work from Pagani to fix…

And unfortunately, in August 2023, the car’s following owner, billionaire Mark Radcliffe, crashed it in a tunnel in Wales, with dashcam footage emerging of the incident – but thankfully, nobody was injured in the scary crash.

Lewis Hamilton's Pagani Zonda from his car collection.

Mercedes-AMG Project One

Given he drives for Mercedes’ factory Formula 1 team, it’s no surprise that Hamilton splashed the cash to get his hands on the marque’s most impressive machine, the Project One.

Given his interest in sustainable fuels and powertrains, Hamilton was involved in the production of the plug-in hybrid machine by testing the prototypes.

The Project One is capable of reaching a top speed of nigh on 220mph, with the initial deliveries of the machines being made in late 2022.

Just 275 Project Ones will be built, costing around £2 million each. Hamilton bought one for himself, and another for his father Anthony.

Former Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg has also taken delivery of one, while David Coulthard and Mark Wahlberg have also joined Hamilton in purchasing one of the exceptionally rare machines.

It began with an idea. A dream…. @F1 technology brought to the streets. Today, that dream becomes reality. The ONE and only, @MercedesAMG ONE. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/KXyetqSD3c — Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team (@MercedesAMGF1) June 1, 2022

Mercedes-AMG SLS Black (and a Mercedes Safety Car!)

Aside from the Project One, Hamilton also owns a few other offerings from Mercedes.

The AMG SLS Black is powered by a 6.2 litre V8 with 620bhp, hitting 100km/h in just three seconds from a standing start.

He also owns a white Mercedes AMG GT R, which was used as the Formula 1 Safety Car from 2018 to 2020, which is arguably the most ‘normal’ car in Hamilton’s extensive car collection.

Hamilton also has possession of a Mercedes AMG G63 6×6, a capable and imposing six-wheeled off-roading truck which cost the seven-time World Champion around half a million pounds.

When Hamilton feels like whipping around in utter luxury, he can also peel out in his Mercedes-Maybach S600 which has a silky smooth 6-litre V12 engine.

Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes AMG GT R from his car collection.

Ferrari LaFerrari (amongst others!)

While Hamilton has been a Mercedes F1 driver for a decade, that doesn’t mean he’s immune to the charms of the ultimate boyhood dream machine – a red Ferrari.

While they may have been his on-track rivals over the course of his long F1 career, Hamilton is known to have had at least three Ferraris in his car collection.

These include a Ferrari LaFerrari, a Ferrari 599 SA Aperta, and a LaFerrari Aperta.

The LaFerraris use a hybrid 6.3 litre engine, producing over 900bhp, with Hamilton rumoured to have spent around £2.2 million in order to secure the Aperta version, and a further £1.4 million on the other.

Just 80 versions of the 599 were ever built, celebrating Pininfarina’s 80th anniversary, making it an extremely rare car in Hamilton’s collection. The price tag may be lower than the LaFerrari Aperta, but was still an estimated £1.7 million.

1966 Shelby Cobra 427 (article image)

While most of Hamilton’s collection consists of cutting-edge machinery from the world’s biggest supercar manufacturers, he has also splurged on some classic machinery.

One of these is a classic 1966 Shelby Cobra, estimated to be worth around £4 million – one of the most expensive machines Hamilton owns.

Kept in Los Angeles, Hamilton was frequently seen taking ex-girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger out for a drive in the exotic car during their time as a couple.

However, the longer Hamilton holds onto this car, the more it’s likely to appreciate – Cobra prices are expected to rise at auction and, together with its unique ownership, Hamilton’s pension could be secured from this one machine!

1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

Another classic in Hamilton’s car collection is a close replica of ‘Eleanor’ from the film ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’ – Hamilton spent £1.1 million to get his hands on a 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.

Following the purchase, Hamilton then had his car customised by an American tuner and bodyshop in order to bring it into the pristine condition it’s in today.

Lewis Hamilton's Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 from his car collection.

The days of Lewis Hamilton being associated with McLaren may be well behind us, but Hamilton himself has kept the brand close to his heart.

In 2015, three years after walking away from the McLaren F1 team that brought him into Formula 1, Hamilton splurged on a P1 supercar.

Boasting a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, twinned with an electric motor, it produces 903 bhp – enough to hit a top speed of 217mph and 0-100 km/h in under 2.7 seconds.

The P1, the successor to the iconic F1, cost Hamilton around £1.2 million.

1995 McLaren F1

Following on the McLaren theme, Hamilton was once spotted in Beverly Hills in a silver McLaren F1 (Chassis 044, of course), in a clip circulated on social media, which once held the title as the fastest road car in the world when it was first released.

Only 64 were ever produced, and they have only gone up in value since. When Chassis 044 was put up for auction by Bonhams in 2017, the eventual staggering price it fetched was $15.62million (£12.3m) – and the identity of the buyer was not known for some time  until reports emerged that it was Hamilton who was in fact the car’s new owner.

The McLaren F1 is a masterpiece of design, with Chassis 044 housing just one seat with a central driving position, with its 6.1-litre V12 having clocked fewer than 10,000 miles at the time and just one previous owner, with a top speed of 243mph.

Buying a McLaren F1 now is even more expensive for prospective buyers, with another model selling for over $20m in 2021 to make it the most expensive road car ever auctioned.

What other cars or vehicles does Lewis Hamilton own?

While the above list of cars are machines that Hamilton is known to have had (or still has) ownership of, it’s highly likely the seven-time World Champion has quite a few other machines squirreled away for when he feels like keeping a lower profile.

Aside from his four-wheeled cars, Hamilton also has a Honda CRF450RX Motocross bike which he is known to ride around in the picturesque areas of California, while he also owns an electric Maverick X3 dune buggy.

What is Lewis Hamilton’s current road car?

While Hamilton may have access to a huge range of sportscars and supercars, the 38-year-old has chosen to be more environmentally conscious in his day-to-day driving.

Nowadays, Hamilton carries out his daily driving in an electric Mercedes EQC SUV, which cost him around £65,000.

Famously, Hamilton also once owned a private jet, a cherry-red Bombardier Challenger 605, which he used to fly around the world in his private life as well as to Formula 1 Grands Prix and tests.

But Hamilton sold the jet in 2019, citing a desire to become more environmentally conscious and to live a greener life.
