Perini Navi Heritage

The Perini Navi Group, which today comprises four companies, offers luxury racing and cruising sailing yachts and in 2007 launched a sister division with a series of large motor yachts. Perini Navi was originally founded by Fabio Perini in 1983 in Viareggio, Italy. Unable to find a large sailing yacht that he could operate single handed, Fabio created a company to design and engineer his own vessel and launched a prototype sailing yacht with ample living space that could be sailed with a reduced crew. That yacht is still sailing the high seas today, going by the name of Elettra. Today Elettra boasts enhanced sailing and operating mechanical systems similar to the ones found on the new generation of Perini Navi yachts. She is petite compared with Perini’s greatest achievement, the MALTESE FALCON, but having been put to the test in 35+ knots of wind, Elettra can more than hold her own at the annual Perini Navi Cup in Sardinia.

For the Adventurous at Heart

By 1988 the company was building its own designs and had developed a computerized sail-handling system that enabled the sails to be furled and unfurled with the push of a button. In 2017, Fabio Perini opened the share capital of Perini Navi to new investors and with Fenix Srl, the holding company of the Italian Tabacchi family, Perini Navi’s two brands, Perini Navi and Picchiotti, merged into one.

Along with the original Perini headquarters in Viareggio, the Italian company comprises facilities in La Spezia, Italy, Tuzla, Turkey and a charter and sales division based in New England’s Rhode Island. The main shipyard and central offices in Viareggio produce the majority of the group’s two lines – the Racing Line and the Fast Cruising Line. The Perini Navi series of motor yachts, which were previously built under the Pichiotti name, are produced in the La Spezia shipyard, where there are 230-foot (70m) hangars, two travel lifts and 164-foot (50m) piers. The group’s metalworking division is in Yildiz, Turkey, and has a space for hull and superstructure construction. It was here that special projects such as the ground breaking MALTESE FALCON was created in 2006. With three masts with curvilinear spars, naval architecture by Gerald Dijkstra and Partners, and interior design by Ken Freivokh Studio, the 300-foot (88m) MALTESE FALCON was the first of its kind to be seen on the market with the revolutionary sailing system ‘the Falcon Rig’. Since then Perini Navi have been responsible for the build of iconic vessels the likes of the 196-foot (60m) PERSEUS 3, which features the tallest carbon fiber mast ever built and the biggest downwind sail area on a yacht thanks to her unique bowsprit. Most recently Perini Navi have presented models from both its sailing and motor yacht series – E-Volution and Argonaut respectively – that make up part of its enhanced range.

To date the Perini Navi Group has constructed over 59 sailing yachts ranging from 80-feet (25m) to 300-feet (88m) in length, and four motor yachts ranging from the 83-foot (25m) ECO-TENDER to the 240-foot (73m) NAUTILUS (formerly GRACE E). They have another four super sailing yachts and two motor yachts currently under construction.

Perini Navi has attracted numerous famous owners and has won countless awards for their quality builds and innovative projects (close to 70 awards at last count).

Perini Navi

Perini Navi is a worldwide leader in the design and construction of sailing and motor yachts, with a current fleet of 63 yachts.

It was founded in 1983 with Fabio Perini’s first prototype of a large sailing yacht with ample living spaces and singlehanded sailing system. Located in Viareggio, in 1987 Perini Navi expanded in Tuzla, Istanbul; then it acquired the Picchiotti shipyard, a pioneer in the design and build of luxury motor cruisers, before expanding in La Spezia. Its three state of the art facilities, covering 91,000sqm in total, have become synonym for cutting edge quality. At the end of the 1990s, Perini Navi established its US branch in Newport, Rhode Island, dedicated to brokerage and charter services.

In 2017 Fabio Perini opened the company’s share capital to a new investor, Fenix Srl, which now owns 75 percent. Since Autumn 2017 Perini Navi has merged its two brands into one. The group’s motor yachts and sailing yachts will all be sold, built and sailed with the Perini Navi logo.

After a bit of a lull, Perini Navi is back with a groundbreaking new sloop.

The iconic sailing brand, which the Italian Sea Group bought for $91 million last December, has returned from the depths of bankruptcy with a 154-footer designed for the future of yachting.

Indeed, the sailing yacht ’s engineering and tech appear to be at the bleeding edge. The vessel sports a sleek aluminum hull and a deep V-shaped bow that helps it maintain a steady heel angle, as reported by Boat International . It’s also equipped with a 200-foot carbon-fiber mast that supports a main sail and jib collectively spanning more than 13,000 square feet. The innovative new sail handling system, meanwhile, tracks and controls the sails via captive winches below deck.

Elsewhere, the sloop’s twin rudders can be synchronized through a “fly-by-wire” system for greater maneuverability when both sailing and docking. She also sports a re-engineered keel that allows her to easily navigate shallow waters. (This maximum draft is 36 feet when the keel is down, while the minimum draft is around 13 feet when it’s up.)

In terms of grunt, the yacht packs a CAT engine that can produce 533 kWh at 2,100 rpm and two main generators offering 86 kWh each. The vessel is expected to reach around 13 knots at full tilt and can cover up to 3,500 nautical miles when traveling at a cruising speed of 10 knots, according to Perini Navi.

With a beam of 34 feet, the new sailer has a volume of 390 GT and offers a lot more space than other yachts in her class. She can sleep up to 10 guests across four ensuite cabins and one supersized owner’s suite. The quintessentially Italian interior was designed in-house and pairs a bold color palette with modern furnishings.

Elsewhere, the yacht sports a wide swim platform, a sprawling flybridge and a large bow housing a 21-foot tender. Of course, it’s also fitted with a dedicated crane to launch and recover toys and tenders.

The new sloop is expected to hit the seas in 2024. It’s certainly good to see you back, Perini Navi.

PERINI NAVI Yachts – Operating Since 1983

Although this company might be facing its toughest hurdle yet (judges forced them at the Lucca Tribunal to declare bankruptcy on the 29th of January, 2021), there’s still a lot to learn from how the Perini Navi Group rose to become one of the biggest names in yacht building.

PERINI NAVI Brief History

Despite recent unfavorable developments, it’s nearly impossible to forget the impactful role that Perini Navi played in the yachting industry.

Before Fabio Perini founded this company in 1983, he manufactured papers and was an inventor. But he felt drawn to the sea. So he employed his skills as an investor to establish Perini Navi.

For a while, this company only offered design and engineering services to yacht-building companies. This changed in 1988 when the shipyard began to build its own designs.

Perini Navi broke the mold by contributing to the invention of the computerized sail-handling system. They had a vision of large yachts that a relatively small crew could effectively manage. And this gave rise to a new way of yacht building.

Notable Launches

Perini Navi launched a 60-m yacht series in 2013. The first in this series is the Seahawk , with a top speed of 15.5 knots and a crew of 10.

In 2016, they built the much sought-after and award-winning yacht, Sybaris . As seen in the images above they were also responsible for Rosehearty and Maltese Falcon .

Although they’ve declared bankruptcy and its future is uncertain (with its assets being up for grabs), we can infer from the company’s history of perseverance and inventiveness that it will rise like the Phoenix from its present troubles.

The Italian Sea Group, a global luxury yachting operator, today unveiled the new and innovative Perini Navi fleet, one year after its acquisition. Three lines of sailing ships from: 48, 56 and 77 meters .

The fleet, named “ Genesis ” confirms Perini Navi’s ultra-high-level positioning as a global player in large sailing yachts.

The project stems from the goal of creating a line of sailing yachts with the characteristic and iconic elements of Perini Navi revisited in a modern key by focusing on large spaces, brightness and sailing comfort.

The exterior lines of the new PERINI sailing ships

The external lines of Perini Navi’s “Genesis” fleet, reflect two essential assumptions: the desire to reinterpret in a contemporary way the classic aesthetics of the “Perini Style,” world-famous for elegance and sobriety, and at the same time express a current and timeless language projected into the future.

The clean lines of the new Perini boats blend harmoniously with elongated and continuous curvilinear trends; glass surfaces expand to diffuse natural and welcoming light into the interior. The stern opens to the sea, becoming a true leisure area with the exterior decks defined by an organic, supple layout.

Perini Genesis: Wider and more fluid interior spaces

By analogy, the main interior spaces also tend to be wide and fluid; the different uses dialogue with each other in a direct but discreet way, maintaining the necessary functionality together with an open and dynamic spatiality.

A blue leather handrail, as a “ fil bleu” , defines and becomes a new leitmotif of the future Perini Navi world.

To speak of sailing yachts when talking about Perini is at best reductive. The new fleet of sailing yachts presented by The Italian Sea Group, includes three new types of sailing yachts: a 48-meter sailing yacht, a 56-meter sailing yacht, and a 77-meter sailing yacht on which it will be possible to install the iconic and innovative Falcon RIG, designed for the first time by the Italian shipyard for the Maltese Falcon, one of the most beautiful yachts in the world.

Perini “Genesis” 48 meters

The brand new sailing yacht will be offered in two versions: regatta and cruise .

The cruise model is characterized by having an area in the “roof” of the yacht – called fly bridge – where a steering position and a sunbathing area are located, to ensure maximum comfort.

The regatta model, on the other hand, is defined as “open,” without a fly bridge, for more sporty performance.

The next-generation naval architecture will allow even more comfortable sailing while the open stern, equipped with a transformer, will facilitate access to the sea, offering great comfort especially at anchorage.

Management of the sail system will continue to be concentrated in the two control consoles, with a series of joysticks facilitating safe control without the need for dedicated crew.  The deckhouse, which has been re-styled, will retain Perini Navi’s characteristic stylistic features: side epaulette, a turn of glass that provides great light, and an enclosed aft cockpit to offer more privacy.

The new 48-meter vessel will have new hull lines to offer limited heeling angles, double rudders and movable centreboard to minimize draft and facilitate access to remote ports and bays with shallow waters.

With a view to sustainability , it will also be possible to install solar panels.

Perini Genesis 56, the restyling of Perini’s iconic sailing ship

The 56-meter , Perini Navi’s most iconic sailboat, will be revamped through a collaboration with Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design , which, with a strong focus on sailing performance, will develop the naval platform and sail system, as well as contribute to the styling of the exterior.

The new sail plan, with carbon masts, will ensure comfort and sailing performance through the use of Perini Navi’s “ sail handling system ,” with concentrated and power-assisted sail rigging control in the two command stations on the flybridge.

Perini Genesis 77, the uniqueness of rotating masts

The 77-meter yacht envisioned by The Italian Sea Group for the new Genesis fleet will be the mega sailing yacht on which to install the FALCON RIG , mounted for the first time on the iconic Maltese Falcon. The RIG is the world’s first system-thought of by the Tuscan shipyard’s expert engineering-that allows the elegance of the square sail to be combined with the upwind efficiency of the triangular sail.

The sailboat will have two masts that will give great advantages in terms of navigation and safety. With the electro-hydraulic mast-sail management system, sailing will be extremely easy. The new sailing yacht will be the first platform to have a true spa-beach club with terraces that can be lowered and connected with the aft beach.

Regarding other Perini Navi-branded projects, four sailing yachts are currently under construction:

• If we are talking about luxury catamarans , Art Explorer , the world’s largest sailing catamaran (47 meters long by 17 meters wide), designed entirely (naval architecture and interiors) by designer Axel De Beaufort , due for delivery in August 2023.
• A 60-meter sailing ketch , naval architecture by Ron Holland and interior by French designer Rémi Tessier , scheduled for delivery in August 2024.
• A 56-meter sailing ketch signed by Malcolm McKeon and interior design by Winch Design , scheduled for delivery in July 2025.
•   A 47-meter sloop , with Central Agency assigned to U.S. broker Bruce Brakenhoff from Edmiston , with delivery in July 2025.

Founded by Fabio Perini, who was the first to conceive and realise automatic systems for the management of large sail plans, Perini Navi has been a world leader in the design and construction of large modern sailing yachts for over 35 years, charting a new course in the market.

In 2023, The Italian Sea Group unveiled the innovative and enterprising new Perini Navi fleet, Genesis, which includes three sailing yacht models of 48, 56 and 77 metres LOA.

Perini Navi is famous for creating some of the world's most iconic and luxurious sailing yachts including Maltese Falcon . With its majestic rotating masts and futuristic design, this 88-metre yacht is a technological masterpiece. Maltese Falcon is known for her fast-sailing ability and spectacular sails. She was a revolutionary design for Perini Navi and set a benchmark in the luxury sailing yacht industry. Maltese Falcon is undoubtedly one of the most recognisable sailing yachts in the world.

At the 32nd edition of Monaco Yacht Show 2023, The Italian Sea Group unveiled Perini Navi ArtExplorer , the world's largest sailing catamaran. The yacht is a true travelling museum - the first and only of its kind to take artistic experiences and environmental awareness around the world for two years.

The interior and exterior design was signed by the major international studio represented by architects and designers Axel de Beaufort and Guillaume Verdier.

With a length of 46.5 metres, an exceptional beam of 17.3 metres and an imposing 50-metre mast, ArtExplorer is a cutting-edge project that will achieve high innovative standards confirming its uniqueness.

Pleasantly surprised, service is good so is the food. Great selection of Fusion food, a mixture of Italian, Japanese, European, Asian etc. A pleasantly nice dining experience, highly recommended, a must try!

Best food, best view in Moscow. absolutely faultless from arrival to finish. Best risotto i had for many years absolutely perfectly cooked. The view on Ukrainian hotel and the white house by night is amazing

Had to wait for the food for 1.5 hours and then another 20 minutes for the check. Finally called for the manager and he offered... a 10% discount as a compensation. Simply pathetic! The food is mediocre at best. Not bad per se, but one... would expect something better considering the prices. There are many places to eat in area that are much better. Avoid this one at all costs. Food is very expensive,very pretentious, doesn't worth that money. Portions are very small. We ordered ravioli and there were 4! Four raviolis! For almost 15 euros. Then we asked to bring us dessert menu but nothing, they didn't even bothered, so we payed and left... without dessert. Very poor service for that price. More

This is a very good restaurant. The food is really good, maybe the best in Moscow. The service is also good. The view from the restaurant is great. The prices are very high.

I often visit this restaurant and must say it’s one of the best in Moscow in terms of quality and service. Staff really try hard to make sure that you are happy and satisfied. Customer service is a huge problem in Moscow but Chaika sets... a great example for others in the industry! Food is delicious and the menu has lots of options for everyone! Visited this lovely restaurant with a friend of mine. It was relaxingly warm August evening - so the place on the river seemed like a good idea. We came quite early and the restaurant was not full. The hostesses kindly offered several places to sit... and we chose to sit on the sofas. We had some wine, which was good. We struggled a bit when deciding about the food as few options (scallops) were not available. Fish on ice on display did not look very fresh. To be honest it was an unusually hot August and it is probably understandable that some see food options were not available. However, we did manage to order something and sat waiting and looking onto the river. My long-legged friend struggled sitting at the low sofa and the manager noticed that, offering as a very good, proper table beside the open window. It was nice touch and I was very pleased by their polite observations and immediate reaction to solve the problem. Food was quite good and presentation was perfect. Perhaps I can something about the food, but 1 visit is not enough to criticize or make a definitive opinion. Overall, quality place, which of course, does not come cheap. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation. More
