About the business.

Located on the island in Dana Point Harbor, we recently completed a major renovation of our clubhouse.  We've completely rebuilt our kitchen, which serves a fantastic lunch and dinner Thursday through Monday.   The bar has views of beautiful ocean sunsets in one direction, and the harbor in the other.  For those who want to keep up with their favorite sports teams, we have several large-screen TV's.  We doubled the size of our patio, and added outdoor heaters and better lighting.  A floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace facing both the patio and interior give the clubhouse a warm and inviting atmosphere any time of the year.  We also provide a WiFi connection, so the clubhouse is the perfect place to just hang out. The club hosts numerous social events at the clubhouse almost weekly, including bands, dancing, Karoke nights, special brunch and dinner events, and parties for every occasion.  We sponsor and participate in several charity events each year including the Leukemia Cup, Race for the Cure, and a Christmas Dinner for the Marines.  In addition to our full social calendar, the club has several member groups that encompass the wide variety of the interests of our members. …

Dana West Yacht club is a posh and comfortable setting with a large bar, serves food, kind people and great views! We visited on a Sunday during the day and as evening came it was a hopping place to be! Multiple ladies rooms, indoor and outdoor seating available. The views of the ocean can't be beat!

Our favorite go to place! This place is truly the best! Incredible food, incredible service, and the price is so affordable that we come more often than not. Amazing ocean views, outdoor fireplace and heaters are great for those cooler nights in case you want to sit out on the deck. High five to management for making this the best little yacht club around!

As members of a reciprocal yacht club, we've stopped over several times in the last few years when motoring up the coast after the Newport to Ensenada Race. Beautiful club and exceptional hospitality. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. Your Prime Rib night is terrific!

This YC has the best food and the most fun in the Dana Point Harbor. The members are welcoming and fun and the kitchen serves the best food at the best prices 5 nites a week ! Oh... and did I mention the beautiful view of both the ocean and the harbor

This is by far the best little yacht club! Food is excellent, plentiful and well presented. Drinks are poured generously and the members are extraordinary! I have visited many clubs and this one has the best of everything including the amazing staff.

Youth Sailing

Participation is  OPEN  to both the youth of the DWYC and the surrounding communities, with options for sailors of all ages and skill levels, including serious competitors and recreational sailors. 

Dana West Anglers

The Anglers are open to all members,  both boaters and non-boaters, and it promotes fun fishing experiences  through tournaments and other activities.

Reciprocal Clubs

YC welcomes members from all SCYA member clubs, as well as yacht club that are members of the Yacht Clubs of American that includes over 800 clubs in the USA. 

We invite visitors to check the Burgee Log . If your club’s burgee is not listed, please consider scheduling a burgee exchange with a flag officer when you visit.

Dana Point Harbor is a quick few minutes to get to the start line several times a year. We offer a double-handed series, as well as an evening race in the fall; and our fleet is active in all harbor race series.

Charity Regatta

An annual 3-day PHRF spin and non-spin sailing series, is the crown of our club’s charitable fundraising efforts with Live and Silent Auctions, our famous Dinghy Poker Run and multiple land-side events during weekend.

Visiting Yachties

DWYC offers visiting yachtsman a place for the evening or two on a 60′ side-tie that is first come-first serve by reservation through our dockmaster. Complete the “contact us” form or call the office to make a reservation.

Dana Point YC welcomes new officers, seeks to expand membership

DANA POINT — The Dana Point Yacht Club kicked off 2015 by welcoming newly elected Flag Officers, Commodore Gary MacCleverty, Vice Commodore Bob Perdue, Rear Commodore Mike Hatcher, Fleet Captain Anne Eubanks and Port Captain Phil Herzfeld, all of whom represented outstanding volunteer efforts and had served on the board in many other capacities. Each office is responsible for a facet of club operation and, for 2015, are reaching out to the public to join the club.

Membership in the yacht club is currently open and, according to club officials, offered at a “very reasonable” initiation fee of $500.

“For an equity club, this is a wonderful bargain, because as the available memberships are taken, a waiting list will form and the pricing will rise dramatically,” according to DPYC officials. “Boat ownership is not a requirement, but our members do enjoy water sports, serving on committees such as the Race Committee, which presents close to 30 races a year.”

Joining a committee is the best way to become active within the club, with opportunities available in the race, membership, house, junior, cruise and Ships Store committees. Each committee focuses on a specific aspect of the YC, such as planning Open Houses to welcome new members, keeping up with maintenance and repairs, overseeing summer classes, planning cruises or other excursions and ensuring Ships Store is operational and organized.

The Women’s Sailing Program will be re-instituted this year with lessons for non-members in the community, as well as for those members who would like to learn more about sailing.

Members can also join committees governing the Richard Henry Dana Charity Regatta, finance and food and beverage.

The first three parties of the year start with a “Hoe-Down” on Jan. 17. There will be lessons at the start of the evening in Line Dancing, Country Western Dancing and Swing. Grab your boots and hat, make a reservation and come on down.

Following that, there will be a “Soup-R-Bowl” party on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 1. Enter your best chili or soup, wear your favorite NFL jersey (even if they did not make the Super Bowl).

Valentine’s Day will be an elegant sit down dinner with dancing.

Racing in dana point.

There are many ways to get involved in sailboat racing in Dana Point. Whether you own a sailboat and want to participate or wish to join another crew, we've outlined a few options for you to get involved.

Farkle Race every Thursday at 2 p.m.

Dana Point Harbor is home to the longest-running weekly sailboat race on the Pacific Coast. The tradition started 32 years ago with just a handful of local racers who wanted to race every week. They named it the "Farkle race." Now in its third decade, legend has it they've never missed a race. Rain or shine, there are always at least a dozen participants. If you own a sailboat, just show up at the green buoy on Thursday for a 2 p.m. start. Use channel 68 to hear the course and ask any questions. If you wish to crew on a boat, learn more about the rules or just find out how to get involved, fill out the form below with your name, email phone number and a message, and someone will contact you. There are occasional informational meetings to share this great weekly tradition.

PHRF Races at Dana West Yacht Club and Dana Point Yacht Club

Both yacht clubs in Dana Point offer Performance Handicap Racing Fleet-sanctioned races throughout the year, and also host their own annual charity regattas. Typically, you must be a member of PHRF to race, but Dana West Yacht Club allows non-PHRF members to race in their annual charity regatta.
