Superyachts spotted at the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Related articles, superyacht directory.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is back once again as the 2023 Formula 1 racing season comes to a close. Each year, among the influx of spectators, this particular F1 track welcomes a stellar lineup of superyachts moored along the edge of the Yas Marina Circuit. As the teams vie to secure this year’s remaining points, BOATPro' s fleet tracker keeps an eye on the superyachts on the scene...

Bleu de Nîmes

Length: 72.1m Builder: Clelands Year: 1980

For the owner of Bleu de Nîmes , it hasn’t merely been a momentary passion project, but a 20-year love affair encompassing two major rebuilds, each with its own set of challenges. Her conversion from a Royal Navy degaussing ship to a yacht-like ship in 2005 was to suit the requirements of the owner, who has a large family and enjoys inviting friends on board – resulting in a vessel that could accommodate at least 20 guests and 20 crew. He used it privately for 10 years, but in 2016 a second rebuild birthed a true explorer superyacht for charter. Look out for her long, elegant profile packed with an enviable list of amenities.

Isabell Princess of the Seas

Length: 63.8m Builder: Codecasa Year: 1990

Isabell Princess of the Seas has a storied past with a tie to the royal family. In another life, she went by the name Jonikal and belonged to former Harrods owner Mohamed Al-Fayed. She is best known as the yacht that Princess Diana and Mohamed's son, Dodi, enjoyed a romantic summer on in 1997, as seen in the latest series of The Crown. Later, it belonged to serial entrepreneur Bassim Haidar, who renamed her Bash (along with the rest of his fleet). She was sold earlier this year and now goes under the name Isabell Princess of the Seas.

Length: 60m Builder: Brodosplit Year: 2015

No stranger to a serious celebration, Katina can host as many as 150 guests quayside and offers an impressive surround-sound system and light show for partying the night away. An RYA-approved water sports centre, Katina is bursting with water toys. Her stand-out features include a lift connecting all decks and the whisky and cigar bar, located forward on the main deck. Keep an eye out to see which Grand Prix party yachts will be lining the Yas Marina Circuit.

Length: 56m Builder: Benetti Year: 2007

Formerly known as AE Cap d’Antibes, Zefzaf boasts an impressive interior by Francois Zuretti . Her vast entertaining spaces lend themselves to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix environment, including her vast sundeck complete with a Jacuzzi, extensive sunbathing areas and a fully serviced bar. Guests will also benefit from the large saloon's entertainment centre – including a 52-inch flatscreen television and a Kaleidescape server delivering on-demand video and audio, perfect for watching the F1 Abu Dhabi race live.

Para Bellum

Length: 47.2m Builder: Sanlorenzo Year: 2023

As the largest new-build order by a Greek client since 2014, as well as Sanlorenzo’s largest-ever new-build to be delivered in Greece, Para Bellum is making its mark on the yachting world. She was designed by Francesco Paszkowski and is the tenth unit in the 500XP explorer series with sisterships including Ocean Dreamwalker III and Lars . She is currently for charter with EKKA Yachts and boasts a spacious 113-square-metre aft sea-deck terrace, a sundeck Jacuzzi and an infinity pool – which, combined with the bar, are perfect features for watching the F1 Abu Dhabi race.

Length: 47m Builder: Heesen Yachts Year: 2015

Despite not being a “one of a kind” yacht — Asya belongs to the successful full-displacement 47-metre series — Asya features a custom layout and interior design by Bannenberg & Rowell . Inside, highlights on the 47-metre superyacht include an upper saloon which can be turned into a cinema, complete with a bar and wine room concealed behind a door. Look out for her “pelican” bow (a Heesen hallmark), traditional lines and continuous glass windows.

Length: 43.3m Builder: ISA Year: 2014

Thanks to her instantly recognisable blue paint job, Queen Alla is a great vessel for yacht spotting. She has a proven track record as a successful charter yacht – for good reason too, with a sun deck that plays host to a Jacuzzi, bar, barbecue and a video projector cinema for movies under the stars. There's plenty to keep guests occupied down at the water's edge with her extensive catalogue of water toys too.

Length: 38.6m Builder: Amran Marine Year: 2009

Amara attended the F1 last year, although little else is known about the elusive yacht. She is the only vessel to have been built by the United Arab Emirates-based Amran Marine and, according to BOATPro , she was delivered in 2009 as Al Amran before being renamed upon the completion of her last refit in January 2012. BOATPro reveals Amara moved into the Yas Marina complex as of 1 November. She can accommodate up to 10 guests in five staterooms, with her interior having been designed by Gumwood Yacht Interiors.

Length: 29.1m Builder: Azimut    Year: 2019

Kala is part of the Grande 30M fleet and was delivered in 2019 as Shabby, designed by Stefano Righini and with an interior by Salvagni Architetti . While little is known about her, BOATPro reveals she moved into Yas Marina on 20 November.

Ocean Sapphire

Length: Builder: Year:

Length: 49.8m Builder: Benetti Year: 1996

Code 8 attended the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last year. She was designed by Stefano Natucci with her interior styling the work of Francois Zuretti . The yacht’s master suite still showcases the original design by Zuretti, but an extensive rebuild in 2016 saw the rest of her interiors given a refresh by Adriel Design . Double glass sliding doors lead into the central gathering area that features a white oak floor, silk carpet and a U-shaped leather seating area positioned in front of an entertainment centre with a 75-inch Samsung TV.

Abu Dhabi F1 is a haven for boat owners: ‘This is the biggest weekend by far'

During the racing weekend, owners of crafts big and small enjoy the thrills and vibes of their prime location in yas marina.

The Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix is a big weekend for boat and yacht owners at Yas Marina. Fatima Al Marzouqi / The National.

It may be billed as the race of a lifetime , but for Catalin Stanchu, the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2021 is a pleasant distraction.

Sitting inside his 13-metre Silverton yacht docked at the Yas Marina, the frenetic sounds of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix doesn’t disturb the reverie he associates with the site.

“If you own a boat in Abu Dhabi, then this is the biggest weekend of the year by far,” the Romanian engineer tells The National inside his intimate cabin, with a small television screening a live football match.

“It’s a fun atmosphere and you really see the marina comes to life. But I also enjoy it when it's calm as well. When I am alone in my boat, I do feel a sense of peace.”

Stanchu has a point.

Where the Yas Marina is dotted by mega yachts, with some such as the Amber Lounge functioning as full-scale floating clubs with live performances and a DJ, the smaller crafts offer their own kind of laid-back fun.

Strolling across the various berths in the marina, you can see families using their intimate boats for picnics, a game of cards or people watching.

For Brid Duffy, the family's 6.5-metre Starcraft has always been a place to escape the stresses of what has been a gruelling year.

Sitting on a picnic chair with a cup of tea, she recalls never intending to own their own boat when arriving in Abu Dhabi over a decade ago.

“We started going on other people’s boats and had such a great time, my husband and I thought, 'Why don’t we own one?'. Boat envy is a real thing,” she says, with a chuckle.

“But it is also a great way to gather the family and friends around and spend some together. Now with the Abu Dhabi Formula One, the boats docked at the marina get a number of free tickets, so we give them away to our kids and their friends while we parents stay here and chat and enjoy the breeze.”

Roger Hind says a boat retains a charm of its own.

Sitting on the stern of the Mojo , a pearl white 13.4-metre Princess 42 yacht, the Englishman says there is something about being out in the Abu Dhabi canal or peering out of the Marina at this time of the year.

“I am fortunate enough to have a friend who lends me his boat occasionally during the Abu Dhabi F1 over the last few years,” he says. “And no matter how big or small it is, it does have this kind of casual and luxurious vibe to it. Maybe it is the whole process of getting there, wearing comfortable clothes and enjoying the scenery that makes people relax.

“You kind of begin to understand why people like to do networking or business events on board, it makes people feel relaxed.”

The pleasures of the sea are not only limited to the rich and famous. Yas Island is home to various boat companies offering tours from cruising around the Yas Marina to a 90-minute journey right up to the shoreline of Emirates Palace hotel besides the corniche.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Yellow Boats Abu Dhabi (@theyellowboats_abudhabi)

The Yellow Boats' Sanouf CP has been captaining tours on the company’s RIB (rigid inflatable boat) crafts for the past eight years.

A former fisherman and boat captain in the South Indian state of Kerala, he says Abu Dhabi does have a few nautical thrills of its own.

“Look, it’s nowhere as rough as Kerala can be but Abu Dhabi has interesting areas,” he says. “So when I take tours in the Yas Canal, it is calm and quiet but when I pass Saadiyat Bridge and Mina Port, then I will find some big waves and this is when the safety briefing is very important.”

Sanouf says the Abu Dhabi F1 is beneficial for Abu Dhabi boating companies.

“I see many people who never went on a boat tour before,” he says. “During the racing weekend, our company normally works as a water taxi taking people around the marina.

"But even in those few minutes, I see people relax and enjoy being in the marina and they come back after the F1 for boat tours. They feel like they saw a new and beautiful side of Abu Dhabi.”

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix yacht charter with Burgess

Published 28 September 2022

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix yacht charter

The day-night race in Abu Dhabi is arguably the most atmospheric on the calendar

Watch F1 from the comfort of your aft deck with an Abu Dhabi Grand Prix yacht charter. The Abu Dhabi GP is not only the last race of the season, therefore serving up a healthy portion of closing parties, but it’s also one of only three day-night championship Grand Prix races on the F1 calendar. Action takes place under the floodlit gaze of the Yas Marina Circuit, as drivers jostle for poll position and international DJs spin the decks into the night.

When is the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix?

The final grand prix on the F1 calendar is always a spectacle

Each year, an unmissable 58 laps of high-speed action take place in the state-of-the-art city in November. The 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is set to take place on Yas Island - just a 30-minute drive from the city and a 15-minute drive from Abu Dhabi International Airport - on Sunday 20 November.

Can I watch the action from my charter yacht?

Feel the drama in every sense from the deck of a trackside yacht

Abu Dhabi’s man-made Yas Island provides a spectacular backdrop for the only Grand Prix race in the United Arab Emirates. It gives yachts unrivalled access to trackside action, making it one of only two F1 races that can be enjoyed from a yacht with unrivalled vantage points of the tightest turns. Yachts measuring 60m and less can access the trackside waterway and fight over the best berths.

Yas Marina welcomes yachts up to 120m in length

For larger yachts measuring between 60-120m, there are three berths available outside of the marina – numbered V10, V15 and V26. Due to their limited availability, early reservation is highly recommended for those planning on making an entrance aboard a 100m+ yacht.

Track view vs non-track view berths

There is a limited number of trackside berths so it's best to book early

The 5.281km Yas Marina plays host to 190mph speeds and deafening roars as the aroma of burnt rubber and the signature F1 whine pierces the air. The modern facility provides a good selection of berths for visiting yachts, with the track view berths the most coveted of all. Numbered from 36 to 56, they accommodate superyachts up to 60m and are located in the south-west of the marina. For smaller yachts between 8-30m, a good selection of non-track view berths in the north-east of the marina still allow guests to soak up the buzzing atmosphere, watch the live race on large screens and be well placed for all the pit-lane action.

Post-race entertainment

There is some serious entertainment on offer once the cars stop racing for the day

While the focus is undoubtedly the racing cars and drivers themselves, the level of entertainment on offer all week is not to be missed. From animated light shows at MAD on Yas Island, the largest indoor nightclub in the Emirates, to international DJs spinning decks and crowds into a frenzy at the Amber Lounge the choice is endless. There are even live acts that play into the early hours, attended by celebrities, socialites and partygoers galore.

Join one of the many superyacht parties or host your own

There are plenty of glamorous parties to enjoy - or you can host your own on board

The line-up of incredible, head-turning superyachts at any Grand Prix makes for an enviable sight, but when the tunes are pumping, the drinks are flowing and revellers dance the night away on the sun deck, a yacht party is the place to be. There’s only one thing better than being invited to the most sought-after gig of the season, and that’s hosting the must-attend party yourself aboard a yacht of your choosing, with your VIP guestlist.

Visit Ferrari World

Ferrari World, the red structure in the right of shot, is home to some wild rides, Italian cuisine and, of course, driving experiences

In a fitting ode to the Grand Prix circuit and annual event, Yas Island is also home Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, touted as one of the world’s leading theme parks for car enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. As Ferrari’s first branded theme park in the world, the indoor arena counts the world's fastest rollercoaster, the highest loop ride and the tallest space-frame structure among its 40 thrilling attractions. It’s a hyper-adrenaline experience just a stone’s throw from the real F1 action.

It's a high-octane world of visceral entertainment and Burgess is your way in. Get in touch today

Abu dhabi grand prix.

The Formula 1 finale in Abu Dhabi is a true bucket-list event, one of the season’s most spectacular highlights. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix attracts 60.000 spectators every year and is held on the stunningly beautiful Yas Island.

6. - 8. December 2024

Seize the final thrill..

Spanning three exhilarating days in November, the  Abu Dhabi Grand Prix  is a ‘must-see’ race of the Grand Prix championship, as it is F1’s only twilight race. With Formula 1 cars speeding around the 5.554 km track 55 times, the Yas Marina Circuit is home to a magical atmosphere as day fades to night and the lights shine down on some of the biggest names in auto-racing.

Becoming the new final destination of the Grand Prix in 2009, the impressive Yas Marina Circuit is dominated by its 1,2 km straight between Turns 5 and 6 and the tricky run through Turns 10 and 11 into 12. Its floodlit track has become the pinnacle of the tournament as the big finish and, of course, the hub of some of the biggest parties of the season.

Spectators have many exciting options for where to watch the climactic championship finale: a hotel room with a prime trackside view, a spot in the grandstands in the center of the electrifying energy, or, most notably, an exclusive berth in the Yas Island Marina. Joining Port Hercule in Monaco as one of the only two F1 circuits offering trackside berths, there are endless reasons to indulge in the  Abu Dhabi Grand Prix  experience with a luxury yacht charter.

To experience the  Abu Dhabi Grand Prix  in all of its glory, contact us to charter a luxurious yacht for your action-packed vacation at sea! Bask in the Yas Island Marina in total comfort aboard one of our luxury charter vessels either by chartering your own yacht or renting out singular cabins on our shared partner yachts.

Maximum speed, maximum action, and maximum luxury.

Toto Wolff blames ‘utter pathological egomaniac’ for Abu Dhabi 2021 decision

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff with a stern look on the pit wall.

Toto Wolff with a stern look.

Toto Wolff has given a withering assessment of a ‘totally unimportant person’, after the drama of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The controversy of that title decider at Yas Marina is now enshrined as one of the seminal moments in the history of the sport, with events going against Lewis Hamilton on the night as Max Verstappen was crowned World Champion for the first time.

Toto Wolff gives new Abu Dhabi comments: ‘A totally unimportant person’

A late Safety Car saw only the lapped cars separating Verstappen and Hamilton on track, rather than all lapped cars, allowed to overtake the Safety Car late on in the race, and rather than the race finishing under Safety Car conditions after another lap behind it, as would have been technically prescribed under FIA regulations, the race restarted with a lap to go.

Verstappen, having pitted for soft tyres, was in a hugely advantageous position compared to Hamilton, who stayed out on used hard tyres, and the Red Bull driver made a move at the Turn 5 hairpin, making it stick and became World Champion in highly talked-about circumstances.

Hamilton was asked recently if he felt “robbed” by that night , and Wolff maintains that events in Abu Dhabi went against Mercedes – and while he did not mention former FIA race director Michael Masi by name, his previous comments about him suggest he is the ‘one individual’ to which he is referring regarding the outcome of the race.

“When I think about it again, it’s so unfair what happened to Lewis and the team that day,” Wolff said in the recently released book ‘The Formula’ , written by Joshua Robinson and Jonathan Clegg.

“And that one individual didn’t follow the rules and just let it happen.

“He is a totally unimportant person: he lives on the other side of the world and nobody is interested in him. He really was an utter pathological egomaniac.”

Masi is now chairman of the Supercars Commission in Australia, and appeared at the last F1 weekend at Albert Park as the popular series appeared on Formula 1’s support schedule.

While Wolff still feels wronged by the events of 2021, he admitted it is these moments that partly make Formula 1 what it is, referring to Hamilton as an eight-time title winner.

“It is drama and glory. This is what makes the sport so irresistible,” Wolff said.

“Everyone saw the drama of an eight-time World Champion being robbed of his title. I would have preferred to see it end differently, but the race undeniably left its mark on history.”

Abu Dhabi’s CYVN Weighs Backing Sports Car Maker McLaren

(Bloomberg) -- CYVN Holdings LLC, an investment firm backed by Abu Dhabi, is considering buying a stake in British luxury carmaker McLaren, people with knowledge of the matter said.

CYVN’s deliberations are at an early stage and there’s no certainty it will decide to pursue a deal, according to the people, who asked not to be identified discussing confidential information. Other parties, which couldn’t immediately be identified, are also interested in investing in McLaren, the people said.

Bloomberg News reported in February that McLaren’s controlling shareholder, Bahrain’s Mumtalakat Holding Co., is seeking to bring in additional investors at the carmaker, which also operates the McLaren Formula One racing team.

Representatives for CYVN and Mumtalakat declined to comment.

McLaren was founded in 1963 by racer Bruce McLaren and is one of the UK’s best-known sports car brands. The company said last week that its shareholder has provided £55 million ($69 million) in equity funding as part of a recapitalization process.

CYVN last year committed $2.2 billion to NIO Inc., a Chinese electric vehicle maker. The investment firm aims to “create a smart mobility platform by investing in and partnering with industry leaders around the world,” according to a statement at the time.
