How Long is a Yacht Charter Season?

With two main chartering seasons per year, discover the best time to hire a private yacht.

By Kim Ayling

secret yacht exterior

Chartering a luxury yacht is one of the most immersive vacations one can take. Unflappable service, ultimate privacy and the beauty of the open sea in a dreamy location; no wonder the industry is seeing a huge rise in interest. After unprecedented demand in both 2020 and 2021, this coming yacht charter season is once again set to be busier than ever, so understanding the yachting industry jargon is essential – especially for first-time charterers.

To help you secure the perfect charter yacht in the perfect place, Elite Traveler breaks down exactly how long each yacht charter season lasts, the difference between high and low season and what industry insiders mean by ‘shoulder season’, as well as the best places to travel are during different times of the year.

Yacht charter seasons explained

If you’ve never chartered a yacht before, deciphering the seasons can be tricky. There are actually two primary types of ‘season’: winter vs summer, and high vs low. Winter/summer seasons each last around six months and refer to both location and time of the year; summer yacht charter season spans from around April/May through October, while the winter season starts in November and runs through April.

The summer/winter seasons are dictated by the weather and water conditions, with areas such as Northern Europe and the Mediterranean most popular during the summer season, while destinations in the Caribbean, Indian Ocean and Florida dominate the winter yacht charter season.

High/low season (also known as peak/off-peak season), on the other hand, refers to the busier and quieter times the yachting calendar, with peaks in both the summer and winter seasons. During the winter, Christmas and New Year are the peak yacht charter periods, with July and August being the busiest in the summer season. During these times yacht availability tends to be more limited and prices are often higher.

Peak vs off-peak yacht charter costs

As with any vacation, booking a yacht charter during peak season will inevitably be more expensive. For example, the ultra-luxe Secret superyacht (who features a swimming pool, separate Jacuzzi, cinema room and fully equipped gym) is available to charter for €840,000 (approximately $990,000) during low season, whereas during both the winter and summer high seasons weekly costs begin at €875,000 ($1.29m).

You’ll also find that local events, such as the Cannes Film Festival and the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, will impact yacht availability and weekly chartering costs throughout both high and low seasons.

Can you charter a yacht out of season.

Given that different parts of the world have different peak seasons, you’ll find that at pretty much any given time of the year, you will be able to charter a luxury yacht. However, bear in mind that the summer/winter seasons are primarily in place due to weather; while many luxury yachts are impressively durable, with explorer yachts designed to handle all weathers, yachting is generally best enjoyed in warmer climates and calmer seas.

So, while it may be possible to charter a yacht in Northern Europe during winter, you may be disappointed to find significantly higher rainfall and lower temperatures. Equally, while the Caribbean and Florida are both known for enjoying generally good weather all year round, don’t disregard the threat of hurricane season, which tends to be from June to November.

You may also find that your preferred yacht is only available in certain destinations at certain times of the year. For example, leading yacht charter company Burgess only offers the hybrid yacht Home for cruising in the Mediterranean during the summer season and in the Caribbean during winter. Ultimately individual yacht availability is dictated by her owner; if they want to enjoy their vessel for themselves during certain months of the year, she won’t be available to charter.

The best way to secure both your desired vessel and ensure a smooth, comfortable cruising experience is to enlist the help of a yacht broker, who will be able to advise you on the best time of year to visit certain destinations as well as use their industry connections to find the best yacht for your needs.

Shoulder seasons

When looking into chartering a yacht you will also hear of shoulder seasons, which refer to the periods that sit either side of the peak seasons, running from April – May, and September – October. For many, the shoulder seasons are the most preferable time to book a yacht charter: demand for boats, berths and anchorages tends to be far lower and crowds onshore will be smaller. For many, the weather is also more agreeable during shoulder seasons with a light breeze cutting through the heat of the sun.

How long is an individual charter?

In addition to understanding the length and meaning of different yacht charter seasons, you should also consider how long you want to be on board. Most charter companies tend to operate in week-long blocks, but the average is about ten days – again, a yacht broker will be able to negotiate your desired charter length.

[See also: The Maltese Falcon: A Timeless Icon of the Yacht Industry]

However, while most people tend to charter for one or two weeks, those with time on their hands sometimes opt to charter for extended periods, with some even staying on board for an entire season. On larger vessels, onboard amenities will typically include office spaces (if not full conference rooms) and WiFi connections allowing for business to continue as usual during long-term yacht charters.

When to book a yacht charter

According to yacht charter company Northrop & Johnson , if you want to vacation during the peak seasons you should reach out to a broker no later than ten months in advance to ensure your first choice of boat and berths, with many yachts booked up a year in advance. However, three to six months ahead of time will usually be suitable for off-season yacht charters.

ESSENTIAL YACHT CREW GUIDES

What are the two main yachting seasons.

when does yacht season start

Traditionally, there are two major yachting seasons that determine where the majority of the yachts will be actively cruising.

In the summer months, the majority of the yachts cruise the idyllic Mediterranean waters . During winter, the yachting activity migrates to the vibrant areas of the Caribbean and USA .

Why is knowing this important? During each of these two yachting seasons, the yachts are cruising with guests on board and are generally fully staffed. Thiss means that the best time to look for a job will be just before the start of each of these seasons.

This is not to say that crew is not able to find work in other times of the year, it just means that the build-up to a yachting season is the busiest recruitment time.

Mediterranean season

Best time to look for work:

February to June

Approximately from May to October

when does yacht season start

The Mediterranean yachting season generally starts in May, or even late April, and extends until October. The season peaks in the summer months when the temperatures in the Mediterranean are the highest and guests can explore the beautiful waters and stunning coastlines.

The season sees the Mediterranean coastlines become a hive of yachting activity where owners and guests move between the indulgence of the Rivieras and the serenity of quiet bays. Most yachts spend the season cruising between Italy, South of France, Greece, Croatia and Spain .

February to May is the best time for new crew to actively search for work onboard superyachts in the Mediterranean. In this period, the yachts are preparing for the upcoming season and need to ensure all positions are covered with skilled crew members.

“Yachts then come to France, Spain, Italy, etc. and are hiring Temp crew to help get the yachts ready for the season. This is the best way to get some experience on the CV, get glowing references and from there, a more permanent position.” —  Anna Horak , Engineering Recruitment Specialist at YPI CREW.

Crew hotspots in that period are places like Antibes (France) or Palma de Mallorca (Spain).

“Antibes for junior crew is the place to be, as its where most of the agents are meeting and interviewing crew. Also, it connects easily by train to ports from Genoa all the way to Marseille, so you can attend interviews and trials in hours at a low cost.” —  Louise Overend , Interior Recruitment Specialist at YPI CREW.

The best way to look for work is to register with a few reputable recruitment agencies, such as  YPI CREW , and stay in touch with the recruiters who will champion you to the yachts they work with.

“Make sure you let yourself known to us, reach out or call us so we can run through your CV and discuss your goals. If you are in the area, come and visit us — it makes all the difference as we can then start to build our partnership with you and guide you through the entirety of your yachting career.” —  Alexandra O’Connell , Deckhand and Bosuns Recruitment Specialist at YPI CREW .

Caribbean season

October to December

Approximately from November to February

when does yacht season start

Late November usually marks the end of the hurricane season and brings sun and warm weather in the Caribbean, transforming it into the epicentre for yachts and yacht crew.

Antigua , St. Maarten and  Fort Lauderdale  now become the main points for cruising in that area.

From October to the end of November, as superyachts prepare for the cruising season ahead, this is the best period for yacht crew to secure a job on board a superyacht.

One thing that is specific to the Caribbean season is that yachts, for the most part, look for crew with a B1 visa . This is because the yachts tend to pass through the USA at some stage of the season.

“Number one thing is to make sure your CV is complete and up to date and to always keep in touch with your recruiter, either by logging into your YPI CREW profile or via email or WhatsApp.” —  Alexandra O’Connell , Deckhand and Bosun Recruitment Specialist at YPI CREW.

Not all yachts will make the seasonal crossing to warmer climates — some will stay in the area throughout the year for maintenance or shipyard periods.

This is the period when there are generally no guests on board, and yachts often operate with less crew.

Recruitment is still happening during these times but, depending on the department, it might be in a slightly smaller capacity than just before the two major seasons.

“On the engineering side there is still much happening, shipyard periods mainly, and often engineers need assistance with the workload. So be sure to check in with us whenever you are ready to look for work and we will guide you from there.” —  Anna Horak , Engineering Recruitment Spacialist at YPI CREW .

The best way to break into the industry is to make sure you do your research on yachting . Find out what courses are best suited to you and the avenue you are looking to take, reach out to friends you may have in the industry, or contact a yacht recruitment agency or training school for advice.

Find out what are the two main yachting seasons and how to use them to increase your chances of finding a job on board a yacht.

Yacht Charter Seasons: Where Can I go and When?

14th jun 2021 by rightboat team.

Rightboat logo

The world is bursting with incredible yacht charter destinations, from the ever-popular Mediterranean and Caribbean, to the South Pacific, the Indian Ocean, North America and beyond. Being presented with this dazzling array of golden beaches and picturesque coastlines makes it hard to choose where to go, but you can narrow it down by charter season. Figuring out yacht charter seasons can be a bit tricky, as they are classified not just as summer and winter, but high and low too.

Here we will take a look at the seasons and which destinations are best for a family yacht charter to help you choose your next holiday at sea.

Yacht charter seasons defined.

Summer and winter seasons last around six months each, with the summer yacht charter season stretching from April/May through to early October, and the winter season running from November through to April. The weather is the most obvious factor in determining the best sailing or boating seasons, but low and high seasons within those periods play an important role too.

High and low seasons – also referred to as peak or off-peak seasons – focus on busier and quieter times in the yachting calendar. For example, Christmas and New Year mark high season points during winter, when demand is high, availability limited and prices sometimes higher. Likewise, the hurricane season of the Caribbean is an example of low season, when boats hunker down for a few weeks and allow the storms to pass over. In the Mediterranean, July and August are bursting at the seams, and mark the high point of the summer season.

While smaller charter boats will usually be located in one place, and you can therefore charter them out of season if you choose, you can expect larger charter yachts such as superyachts to move from one region of the world to another as they follow the better weather. So if you have your heart set on a particular yacht, ask the broker for its annual charter itinerary.

Shoulder Seasons

Shoulder seasons are a great way to make the most of temperate climates, fewer crowds, lower prices and more availability. They refer to the period either side of the high season, so in summer would be April and October, and in winter November and March, and offer fantastic opportunities for a budget yacht charter. As mentioned, larger yachts may have moved on to new cruising destinations by this point, but smaller boats or those who are locally-based will be able to offer less stifling weather, quiet anchorages and marinas, less demand for boats and discounted prices.

Chartering a yacht out of season

Seasons have been long-established for a reason, but that isn’t to say you can’t charter out of season. We’ve taken a look at shoulder seasons, and your best bet is to stick as close to those as possible, but you’ll find boats at any time of the year. Keep in mind however that you’re choosing a time when the weather might not be favourable – rain or cold weather can put a downer on activities for example – or you struggle to find attractions and restaurants open. In off-the-beaten-track destinations such as Alaska, ice might hinder access to and from marinas, or strong winds such as the hurricanes which pass through the Caribbean from June to November might make cruising uncomfortable or impossible.

Summer Season Charter Destinations

The Mediterranean is the golden girl of summer yachting destinations, with tantalizing coasts, ancient cities, beautiful islands and rich culture at every turn. From the glamour of the French Riviera and Italy’s Amalfi Coast, to the beauty of the Balearic and Croatian islands, it is the yachting capital of the world. But the Mediterranean isn’t the only summer destination worth visiting, with North America, the America’s and South Pacific on the list too.

1. Mediterranean summer yachting destinations: Greece, Italy, Croatia, Balearic, Sardinia, French Riviera and Turkey.

2. North European summer yachting destinations: Consider northern European countries during the long summer days, where the UK, Norway, Sweden and the Baltic Sea offer up spectacular natural beauty, midnight sun, vast archipelagos and wild coasts.

3. Alaska: Alaska’s wild lands, remote bays and bountiful wildlife make it one of the most adventure-filled destinations in the world. The summer months, with their long days and milder weather conditions, make for the best time to visit the gargantuan national parks, crashing glaciers and see once-in-a-lifetime wildlife.

Winter Season Charter Destinations

The Caribbean is the focus of the winter yachting season, with St Barts, St Martin, the Virgin Islands and Bahamas the tip of the iceberg of what this island-spattered region has to offer. Yet think further afield too, and there are some dazzling destinations waiting for you.

1. Caribbean winter yachting destinations: Whether you opt for the pink sand beaches of the Bahamas, the perfect sailing conditions of the Leeward Islands, or the glamour of St Barts, you’ll find it in the Caribbean. From Jamaica’s legendary culture to the Dutch Antilles and Grenadines, there are corners of solitude, remote islands and lively beaches to discover.

2. The America’s winter yachting destinations: Mexico and Florida share the same Caribbean waters but offer a completely different vibe for a yacht charter. Explore the flamboyant Florida Keys or venture along the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico in search of ancient ruins and wildlife-filled rainforests.

3. South Pacific winter yachting destinations: There are few places dreamier than the South Pacific. Emerald-topped islands, golden atolls and fish-laden turquoise seas beg exploration, whether it’s a family holiday, romantic getaway or once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Countries such as Fiji, Tonga, the Solomon Islands, New Zealand, Australia and Papua New Guinea offer virtually year-round charter opportunities the winter months are the driest and offer the most favourable conditions. Try scuba diving, climb hidden waterfalls or get to know the local communities of these far-flung islands.

4. Indian Ocean winter yachting destinations: The Seychelles and Maldives offer some of the most sublime cruising destinations on the planet, their iridescent waters teeming with marine life and their beaches powder white. Sri Lanka has a rich history and national parks filled with wildlife, while Mauritius’ underwater world is a maze of colourful coral reefs.

When to book a yacht charter

If you’re planning on chartering a yacht in the peak season, book early! As with anything where demand is high, the sooner you get your deposit paid the better. Out of the peak times, you may be able to secure a more last-minute charter at a discounted price (see our article on How Much Does it Cost to Charter a Boat? ). As a general rule, you’ll want to allow 10-12 months in advance during peak times, and three to six months in advance for low season charters. But be sure to get in touch with us at Rightboat.com at any time of the year as we have boats all over the world waiting to be chartered and connections with all the top boat operators. We won’t leave you high and dry.

How Long Is a Yacht Charter Season?

Every charter destination has a “yacht charter season,” which refers to the months when cruising conditions are ideal and charters are most popular. For example, some destinations have a summer season like the Mediterranean, while others are winter charter season destinations (like the Caribbean).

But you might be wondering: How long is a yacht charter season?

Both summer and winter chart seasons last roughly six months. Yet, within each season there are also “high,” “low” and “shoulder” seasons. In both summer and winter, “high” or peak charter season – the time when chartering is most popular – lasts just 2-3 months.

Wondering when you might plan your next charter? We’re taking a closer look at yacht charter seasons to show you how long they are, how seasons differ by region, and when peak charter season is.

Summer Yacht Charter Season

Zakynthos yacht charters

The Mediterranean is the world’s most popular summer yacht charter destination. The region’s beautiful temperate climate offers ideal conditions during the summer months, and hotspots like Cannes and the French Riviera, Italy, and Croatia beckon charter guests from around the world.

How long is the summer charter season?

Summer charter season in the Mediterranean begins in late-April and runs through mid-September. Summer in the Mediterranean not only brings warm, sunny weather; it’s also known for its many cultural affairs, like the Cannes Film Festival, the club season in Ibiza, and food and art festivals along the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

Throughout the Mediterranean, peak charter season is just two months: July and August. Many yachts are fully booked during the peak season, and rates climb by about 10%.

Alternatively, New England in the U.S. is another popular summer destination, yet the season is a bit shorter: from mid-June through August, with the high season running from mid-July to mid-August.

Popular summer charter destinations:

If you’re looking for a summer charter destination, spots throughout the Mediterranean offer respite from the heat and humidity. Top destination for summer yacht charters include:

French Riviera Known for its cosmopolitan beach clubs and rustic charms, the French Riviera – including Cannes, Monaco and Corsica – offer ideal summer cruising conditions. The French charter season mirrors most of the Mediterranean, but generally starts a bit later, in mid-May and runs through September. The summer season coincides with many events popular with charter guests, including the Monaco Grand Prix, the Cannes Film Festival, and Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

Italy With numerous charter regions, including Sicily, the Amalfi Coast and the Italian Riviera, Italy might be the world’s most popular destination for summer charters. Italy offers a bit of everything: Excellent cuisine and wine, historic sites to explore, and plenty of culture and nightlife. Italy’s charter season runs May through October.

Croatia Croatia – and its numerous islands – make an ideal summer destination, thanks to cool breezes off the Adriatic and its warm sapphire waters. Throughout the season, Dubrovnik, Split and Hvar all beckon charter guests, who escape to Croatia’s sparkling beaches, and upscale, historic ports of call. Dubrovnik, the historic walled city, is a popular charter destination in the summer, and it hosts numerous festivals throughout the charter season.

Greece Sun-soaked Greece is home to nearly 10,000 miles of coastline, along with beautiful islands like Santorini. In the summer months, Greece offers plenty for charter guests to experience, including beautiful beaches, UNESCO sites, and excellent cuisine like moussaka and Restina wine. Greece’s charter season is a bit longer: from April through October.

Spain Spain’s Balearic Islands are a legendary summer season destination, thanks to the all-night clubs of Ibiza and the islands’ sun-soaked beaches. Spend a night clubbing in Ibiza, or explore neighboring Formentera, known for its natural landscapes and hiking trails. Majorca is another must-see island, known for its historic churches, swank beach clubs, and world-class dining.

New England From the coast of Maine, to Newport, R.I. and Martha’s Vineyard, the tranquil ports along the East Coast in the U.S. are perfect for summer charters. The destination offers it all: Cosmopolitan villages, classic lighthouses, excellent golf, windswept beaches, and National Parks to explore. Looking for another summer destination in the U.S.? Consider Alaska, which is known for its glaciers and natural beauty.

Winter Charter Season

BVI yacht charter - The Baths on Virgin Gorda

The Caribbean is a winter charter season mecca, as many escape the cold weather to the soak up the sun in the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Turks & Caicos, and the Grenadines. The Caribbean offers ideal cruising conditions throughout the winter months, including steady breezes (a must if you fancy a sailing charter), warm weather in the 70s and 80s, and hundreds of hidden beaches to explore.

Winter charter season is about six months long, and typically beings in late October, around the unofficial season kickoff, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, and runs through March. Thailand, Tahiti and the Seychelles, and the South Pacific are also popular destinations for winter charters (and have a similar season to the Caribbean).

In the Caribbean, peak charter season is in late December, during the holidays, through March. The shoulder season in November and mid-December are popular as well and offer fewer crowds and reduced prices.

Popular winter charter destinations:

Winter charter destinations offer warm weather, beautiful beaches, and plenty to do and explore. If you’re considering a winter yacht charter, you might choose to travel to:

The Virgin Islands Both the U.S. and British Virgin Islands are some of the most visited islands during the winter season. Known for their laid-back island vibes, incredible sailing, snorkeling and diving, the Virgin Islands are perfect for an adventurous, island-hopping winter yacht charter.

Tahiti Tahiti has fast become one of the most popular charter destinations in the South Pacific, and it offers the ultimate in privacy and natural beauty. With islands like Bora Bora and Moorea, as well as black sand beaches, French Polynesia is the perfect destination for escaping the cold to snorkel, dive, hike and enjoy the beach.

Thailand Thailand’s beautiful islands and tropical coast offer the best in winter chartering. Thailand is perfect for snorkeling and island hopping, Full Moon parties and lazy beach days. The destination’s tropical climate, making for perfect winter charter conditions.

Turks & Caicos Upscale, yet unpretentious, Turks & Caicos – which is comprised of seven main islands, and more than 40 uninhabited cays and islets – is an ideal destination or winter snorkeling. The island’s beautiful coral reefs teem with colorful fish, rays, turtles, and sharks throughout the winter months.

Year-round Charter Destinations

Some destinations offer chartering year-round. For example, Florida is one of the most popular destinations, no matter the time of year.

The Bahamas With hundreds of islands to explore, there’s a new adventure around every corner in the Bahamas. Two of the region’s most popular charter destinations, Nassau (with its excellent golf courses, numerous beaches, and family-friendly atmosphere) and the Exumas (a stretch of beautiful islands), offer chances for R&R and adventures like swimming with pigs and sharks, cliff-diving, and snorkeling.

Miami & The Florida Keys Miami and the Florida Keys offer excellent cruising conditions throughout the year. The peak season in Florida is generally mid-December through March, yet a variety of luxury crewed charters in any month.

How long is a yacht charter season.

Patrick Maflin

If you’re planning to charter a private yacht, you may be wondering what time of year would be best to do it.

As you may be aware, there’s two main chartering seasons per year, and fees vary considerably depending on the period you choose.

What is a Yacht Charter?

When are the yacht charter seasons, how long is the summer charter season, popular summer charter locations, how long is the winter charter season, popular winter charter locations, year round charters, peak vs off-peak yacht charter prices, can you charter yachts off-season, what are shoulder seasons, how long is an individual charter, can i get a job working on a yacht charter.

Couple Drinking Cocktails on Yacht Charter

Chartering a yacht is probably one of the ultimate choices in dream vacations for many.

Engaging in the beauty of the open sea in a luxurious setting and a great service is surely a thrilling and unforgettable experience.

The demand for yacht chartering has been on the rise over recent years, and yacht charter seasons are understandably busy periods.

Every charter destination will have its yacht charter season.

This refers to the months during which the cruising conditions are the most suitable, and hence, during such a time the charters will be more popular.

The charter season refers to the time of year when it’s best to rent a yacht for a vacation.

It’s also the time when most charter companies will be operating.

The two yacht charter seasons are the winter and the summer season.

These are dictated by the weather and the water conditions of the particular locations.

For instance, in the case of the Mediterranean the summer season is most popular, whereas in the case of the Caribbean the winter charter season is more in demand.

Both seasons will last around six months.

Here is a more detailed explanation of the yacht charter seasons, and related aspects.

Summer Charter Season

The Summer Season is a time for sunny weather and warm temperatures.

Several cultural affairs occur during this season too.

The Summer charter season starts off in late April, and runs through until mid-September.

The peak charter season in the Mediterranean is from July til August.

Another relatively popular summer destination is New England in the US.

Here however the summer season is considerably shorter as it runs from mid-June through August.

The high season runs between mid-July to mid-August.

The Mediterranean is definitely the world’s most popular yacht charter destination for the summer season.

Due to the temperate climate during such months, it’s an ideal time of year for the perfect vacation at sea.

The Italian Riviera and Sicily, and the Amalfi Coast are popular charter regions.

Then there’s Cannes and the French Riviera which are also very popular summer charter locations.

Other locations that are also sought after include Croatia, Greece, Monaco, Corsica, and as mentioned earlier, New England.

Famous events such as the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix coincide with this season.

Winter Charter Season

The Winter Season is the ideal time for chartering a yacht if you are considering the Caribbean.

During this time of year, many get away from the cold weather to indulge in the sun of these popular locations.

The Winter charter season is also about six months long.

It kicks off in late October and runs through March.

The peak charter season in the Caribbean is from late December, during the Christmas period, and all through the month of March.

The Caribbean is considered to be the mecca for winter charters.

The Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos are popular locations where there are hundreds of beaches one can enjoy, and many beautiful locations to explore and indulge in.

The weather during this time in these locations is warm, making it ideal for yachting.

Thailand, the Seychelles, Tahiti and the South Pacific also make for very popular winter charter destinations.

Thailand, for instance, is ideal for those who like snorkeling, or if you plan to engage in island hopping.

Tahiti is also a great location for snorkeling, as well as diving and hiking as it is renowned for its natural beauty, and its intriguing black sand beaches.

It’s also worth noting that some destinations offer chartering all year round.

Florida, for instance, is a very popular destination regardless of the time of year.

The Bahamas offer hundreds of islands for exploration and adventuring.

Nassau is renowned for its numerous beaches and great golf courses, while The Exumas is popular for cliff diving and snorkelling.

Miami and the Florida Keys are popular cruising locations all year round too.

Luxury Yacht Dining Table

As a general rule of thumb, charters during high season can cost around 30% more than low season.

Therefore, the best time for signing up for a yacht charter is during the pre-season.

One should avoid waiting more than two weeks before the scheduled start date.

It is possible to charter off season.

However, this will mean that there’s bound to be fewer options than what you’d be able to find during the high or peak season.

During off season you might also encounter certain problems, such as managing to get crew members.

This is even more problematic if you plan to make a longer sea trip.

Moreover, the general weather conditions will not be as favourable as they are during the peak season.

The shoulder season is the term used to describe the middle point between seasons.

This means that it’s the time between the high and the low season, and between the low and high season.

The majority of yachts tend to be booked by this time.

However, it’s also a time when companies will be trying to clear out what’s left, in order to make room for new inventory for the upcoming season.

As a result, the shoulder season might be a good time to book.

Having said that, it’s important to be aware that the shoulder season does not last long, so it’s best to plan to book the ideal yacht for your preferences.

An individual charter generally lasts a week or ten days.

However, there are also those who charter for several weeks, or for a month.

The minimum days for a yacht charter are often two, three or four, depending on the company.

Yacht Charter Crew Member

During yachting season, there’s ample opportunity to work aboard a yacht to potentially earn a very lucrative income.

Competition is fierce however, so you’ll need to be well prepared and learn all the best tips and tricks on how to get into the yachting industry .

More importantly, you’ll need to have certain qualifications and certificates to ensure you’re fit, able and sufficiently trained to work in such an environment, not to mention having plenty of yachting experience.

But once onboard, the perks are very attractive.

Typically, yacht crew receive around 10 - 20% tips from charter guests on top of their monthly salaries.

And if your time spent at sea extends well beyond 183 days per annum, then you could qualify for the seafarers earnings deduction , meaning all income from yachting is completely tax free!

If you’re serious about becoming a yacht crew member, then your best bet is to go dockwalking to try to pick up some daywork.

And if you intend to become a fully fledged yachtie working at sea, make sure to enrol on an STCW Basic Safety Training course.

Also, have your health checked by a professional to be issued an ENG 1 Medical certificate .

This ensures you do not suffer from any serious medical conditions that may impede you from performing duties at sea.

We hope that through this guide you have gained a better understanding of the yacht charter seasons.

Whether you’re planning the ultimate in luxury vacations or have aspirations to work onboard a superyacht, you’ll be fully aware of where and when each yachting high and low charter seasons are.

Yacht Charter Seasons

By Editorial Team   24 January 2023

Whether you’re looking to escape the brisk winds of winter or the humid climates of summer, it is important to understand charter seasons and how they may affect the planning of your luxury yacht charter .

In this article:

  • Types of yacht charter seasons

Shoulder seasons

Charter seasons in popular destinations, weather and charter seasons, extreme weather, a yacht for all seasons, all weather cruising, major sporting & social events, need more advice.

A charter season can refer to the weather pattern of a destination or the peak times when demand for charter yachts is at its highest. Read on to discover everything there is to know about charter seasons and the best times to travel.

What are yacht charter seasons?

In terms of yachting, there are two main types of charter seasons in the year – summer & winter and high & low season;

  • When referring to a charter season in terms of weather and climate, the seasons are broken into summer and winter.
  • When speaking in terms of peak times in the yachting calendar, the seasons are high and low (sometimes referred to as peak and off-peak), where high season is the busiest and low season is the quietest.

These are the months that straddle either side of the seasons, in other words: April & May and September & October, and can be a great time to charter a yacht. Here are some of the reasons why;

  • Demand for yachts is generally lower
  • Charter fees are often in-line with low/off-peak season rates
  • More berths and anchorages are available
  • Popular destinations tend to be less crowded
  • The weather is still reasonably warm
  • The seas are at their warmest at the end of summer

Off-Season Yacht Charters

Throughout the world different regions will have different peak seasons for yacht charters, for example the Caribbean yacht charter season generally runs from December through to March, with its peak season occuring during the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

For the Mediterranean , the charter season runs from May till late September, with July & August representing the busiest peak months.

Some regions claim year-round cruising, especially equatorial destinations offering consistent balmy temperatures such as  Thailand  or  the Maldives . However, these yacht charter regions also experience peak times around their respective monsoon seasons (see below).

Charter seasons are not just affected by the temperatures, they are also dictated by the overall weather and sea conditions.

Weather plays a crucial role in any yachting vacation, and bad weather can not only mar the enjoyment and comfort of a yacht charter, but also hugely impact on any planned itinerary.

A dolphin under the swell of a yacht

Obviously, inclement weather can occur at any time of the year, however most destinations will have optimum times to visit largely dictated by their own annual weather patterns, such as the monsoon seasons in Asia and the Pacific , which occur roughly between May and October. Or, the Meltemi winds in Greece , which blow a strong yet fairly predictable wind across the Aegean, mainly around the Cyclades Islands , throughout July and August – although these winds can prove ideal for sailing yacht enthusiasts!

Some inclement weather conditions for yacht charters can occur at any time, like the mistral winds of the Mediterranean, particularly around Corsica and Sardinia , and so it is always wise to factor in some flexibility into your planned itinerary to contend with any unexpected bad weather.

Some popular yacht charter destinations can experience extreme weather conditions, such as tropical cyclones in the Indian Ocean or huge bushfires in Australia which can affect the air quality even out to sea, however these tend to be rare events.

An obvious example of predictable extreme weather is the annual hurricane season which occurs around the celebrated charter destination of the Caribbean, and some southern US states, roughly between June to mid-October.

Hurricane starting in the Caribbean sky

Most charterers avoid booking during this period for obvious reasons, however with reduced charter rates and a wider selection of yachts at your disposal you may be tempted to take the risk.

Hurricane addendum

Happily, there is a standard addendum that can be added to a basic charter contract that allows you to reshedule your yacht charter in the event of a hurricane hurtling towards your chosen destination!

Your yacht charter broker will also likely advise the purchase of additional cancellation insurance for peace of mind if you are planning a yacht charter during the hurricane season.

Yacht Charter Contracts

In general, seasonal weather will affect the location of most crewed yachts, which tend to move from one region to another in line with the charter seasons.

A woman stands with arms outstretched on the bow of a sailing yacht in Thailand

Therefore, when choosing a charter destination it is best to establish the optimum cruising months as there will generally be a wider selection of yachts to choose from, subject to demand. For instance if you’re looking to charter in Alaska , be aware that come winter season there are very few marinas open.

The majority of charter yachts are built around demand for predominantly warmer climates such as the Caribbean or Mediterranean, and are therefore far less likely to have heating installed.

Addu atoll in the Maldives

There are of course a number of charter yachts that cater for all seasons, in particular expedition yachts which are specially designed to handle all weathers, no matter how extreme. If you are keen on exploring far-flung corners of the globe, from the arctic poles to the sultry heat of the tropics, these types of yachts are ideal.

Important events in the yachting calendar, such as the Monaco Grand Prix and Cannes Film Festival , are considered high season events, whether or not they actually occur in high or low season. This is because charter yachts are in greater demand during these times, with a marked increase in charter rates as a result of their limited availability.

The Mediterranean Yachting Season: A Comprehensive Guide

Whether you are a Yacht crew member, sailor or yacht owner, the Mediterranean Yachting Season is an alluring destination.

Idyllic coastlines flanked with picture-perfect beaches, delicious food, wine, and a host of cultural experiences make the Mediterranean a hotspot for the Yachting elite.

Unlike in the Caribbean and USA, yachting in the Mediterranean has a very specific time frame in which it operates, May to October. In order to increase your chances of finding a job, it is important to know where to be and when.

Here we will explore everything you need to know about the Mediterranean Yacht Season. From crew agents, marinas, accommodation, timing, transport, and key events to look out for.

When is the Mediterranean Yachting Season?

The Mediterranean Yachting Season runs from May to October. This is known as the Summer season (in the Northern Hemisphere), and these are the best months for cruising around the Mediterranean.

The Best Locations for you to Join the Mediterranean Yachting Season

There are a few locations where you can choose to position yourself if you are trying to find a job on a yacht.

Antibes (France) – The Best Location for Green Crew Entering the Yachting Industry

Antibes is one of the main yachting hubs in the Mediterranean.

Here you will find an abundance of crew housing options and an amazing network of crew agents located in the famous Port Vauban.

You also have access to the train which will take you down to Cannes or up as far as Genoa. So if any job opportunities or interviews come up, you can be there easily within hours. This is one of the main attractions of Antibes for job seekers.

It is a great idea to head out to some of the smaller marinas in Antibes as well as along the French Riviera while seeking work. Some of these marinas don’t have as strict security as you will find in Antibes.

Marinas in the French Riviera to Visit while Seeking Work for the Mediterranean Yachting Season

  • Port Vauban: the main marina right off the Old Town of Antibes
  • Antibes Marina
  • Port Gallice (Juan-Les-Pins): walking distance from the Old Town
  • Port Pierre Canto: home to the Cannes Film Festival
  • Port de Cannes Marina (Cannes)
  • Port Hercule (Monaco): one of the most famous marinas in the world
  • Fontveille Marina (Monaco)
  • Port de Cap d’Ail (Cap d’Ail): Located between Monaco and Nice, this is a popular Super Yacht location
  • Marina La Ciotat (Port Vieux)
  • Port de Beaulieu-sur-Mer (Beaulieu-sur-Mer)

Antibes itself is in fact a small town, however the Yachts pack up in the marinas at the start of the season so there will be a lot of other crew seeking work.

If you choose to head to Antibes before the season starts, you will need to book your accommodation far in advance!

If you are new to dock walking and feeling uncertain, check out my post on Dock Walking – 9 Tips to Increase Your Chances of Getting a Job .

Antibes Crew Houses

Crew houses are a fantastic way for Crew to network with other Crew members, as well as a cheaper option for accommodation while seeking work.

A few of your best Antibes Crew houses are:

  • The Crew Grapevine
  • Debbie’s Crew House
  • The Crew House
  • The Glamorgan
  • Amma’s Crew House

For more detailed information on each of these crew houses with rates and booking information, check out my post on the 7 Best Antibes Crew Houses: Where to stay for first-timers.

Antibes Crew Agents

One of your best entries into the Mediterranean Yachting Season is through Yacht Crew Agents. These recruitment agencies are dedicated to placing crew on Yachts.

Once you have gone through the process of signing up online, it is a great idea to arrange an interview so they can meet you face-to-face.

A few of my favorite Yacht Crew Agencies in Antibes are:

  • Luxury Yacht Group
  • Hill Robinson Crew
  • The Crew Network
  • Northrop and Johnson
  • Blue Water Crew

Getting around Antibes

If you are located in Old Town Antibes, you can easily walk around the port. However, you may want to get yourself a bike or e-scooter to save your energy while walking between all the marinas.

Uber is an easy way to get around however it is not cheap if you are on a budget.

If you are looking to travel around the French Riviera, the train is a fantastic and easy option.

The Gare d’Antibes Train station is only a 15-minute walk from the old town. The most common train service on this route is operated by TER (Transport Express Régional) and connects Antibes to Monaco. The journey involves one transfer at Nice so be sure to check your destination.

Prices vary but you can expect to spend €6-€20 for a ticket depending on your destination.

Gare d’Antibes can be found at: 11 Avenue Robert Soleau, 06600 Antibes, France

Events to look out for near Antibes

If a Yacht is involved in a big event, the crew will always need extra assistance. So be sure to head over to these Marinas before these events and hand out your CV!

  • Cannes Film Festival: End of May
  • Monaco Grand Prix: End of May
  • Cannes Yacht Festival: Early September

sailing boats and motor yachts docked in a marina during the Mediterranean yachting season in Palma de Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca (Spain) – Home to the Start of the Mediterranean Yachting Season

Palma is a Spanish island in the Balearics and a very popular destination for Yachts and crew alike. In fact, it is so popular that many yacht crew choose to call it home when they leave the yachting industry.

Palma is known to have a wide range of Yachts including both motor and sailing vessels.

Marinas in Palma de Mallorca

The best locations for dock walking in Palma are the various marinas in the Bay of Palma, Puerto Portals and Port Adriano.

Marinas in the bay of Palma to name a few include:

  • Club de Mar
  • Marina Moll Vell – Home to the International Yacht show
  • La Lonja Marina Charter
  • Marina Port de Mallorca
  • Puerto Palma

I must point out however that it is not easy to dock walk in Palma. The marinas are gated and security is tight. If you walk over with confidence and look the part, you may just get in.

Ideally, you want to know a Yacht or crew member in the marina. Network, network, network!

Crew Houses in Palma

If you are going to seek work in Palma, then your ideal locations to stay are Santa Catalina, La Lonja, or the Old town.

As with any popular Yachting destination, you will need to book your accommodation well in advance.

Some popular crew housing options in Palma are:

  • Crew Guest House Palma
  • The Boathouse Palma
  • Caimari Crew Accommodation
  • Hostal Apuntadores (A hostel option if the crew houses are booked)
  • Monzly Rentals (A great option for short to medium-term rentals)

Palma Crew Agents

Given that dock walking in Palma can be a little tricky, you want to emphasise getting signed up to the crew agencies. Take your time and try to get a face-to-face interview if possible.

Some of you may have already signed up with these agencies. Remember to log in regularly, and change your location if you moved since your last login!

  • Sovren Crew
  • Van Allen Crew Agency
  • Global Crew Services
  • Hill Robinson
  • A-Z Yachting

female sitting on the bow of a yacht in the ocean with a view of the French Riviera in the background

Getting Around Palma de Mallorca

Getting around Palma couldn’t be easier. The good old Bus. It is easy, cheap, and efficient.

You will want to use the EMT bus as there are an abundance of bus stops and they travel all through the city.

The fare for the EMT bus is €2, and they take CASH ONLY.

Please note that in the summer months, these buses get very busy, and sometimes they will pass bus stops if they are too full. If you have an interview or job lined up, be sure to head out early to allow for delays.

Palmas Big Events during the Mediterranean Yachting Season

The Palma International Boat Show is known to inaugurate the Mediterranean Yachting Season. This 4-day event hosts spectacular yachts both for sale and for charter.

The Yacht show usually happens at the end of April and marks the start of the Mediterranean Season.

You can expect to see over 250 boats on display during the show so the month leading up to this time would be an excellent opportunity for day work.

Timing for the Mediterranean

If you are looking for work in the Mediterranean, you can head over as early as February/March! There will be 2 categories of vessels to look out for:

The Yachts that Spent the Winter Season in the Yard

When the Winter season hits in the Mediterranean, it becomes bitterly cold and rainy. Some owners choose to leave their vessels in the Yard during the winter months.

Most yacht crew choose to leave these programs in the winter and these boats will run on skeleton crew.

Therefore, in February/March, these boats will start hiring crew again in order to start getting the boat operating and ready for the upcoming season.

Yachts that Head Over from the Caribbean

These vessels went to the Caribbean for the Winter and now they are crossing the Atlantic and making their way back to the Mediterranean to start a new season.

As these vessels arrive in March/April, they will need a lot of extra help getting cleaned and organized after the big ocean crossing they just did.

These vessels may also see crew changes as they head into a new season.

My advice here is to get onto Marine Traffic . Depending on where you have located yourself, you will be able to see as vessels are entering the harbor. You should make a point of being available to offer help as they arrive.

If you are interested in finding out more about the Caribbean, check out my post on The Caribbean Yachting Season: Ultimate Guide.

Visas and Passports Required for the Mediterranean Yachting Season

If you are not a European citizen, it is important to understand how you can get into Europe and how much time you can stay there. Your visa requirements will depend on your personal home country and passport.

For more detailed information on your personal requirements, go to the Schengen Visa Website.

A Schengen visa is a short-stay visa that allows a person to travel to any member of the Schengen Area, per stay for up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes (Usually 90 days within 180 days).

Schengen refers to the EU passport-free zone that covers most of the European countries.

Currently, there are three types of Schengen visas that apply to non-EU seafarers:

  • Transit (Type B) Schengen visa
  • Short-stay (Type C) Schengen visa
  • Long-stay (Type D) Schengen visa

Seafarers are likely to be issued with the Short-stay visa. This allows you 90 days within the Schengen area, at which point you would need to leave for 90 days.

Additionally, you also need to try to get yourself a multi-entry visa . This allows you to travel between the different European countries.

DO NOT OVERSTAY YOUR VISA! Keep a close eye on your days. If you overstay, you could be banned from coming back for 3 years or more.

My Favourite Hangouts during the Mediterranean Yachting Season

Over the course of my 10 years in the industry, there are a few spots in the Mediterranean that have really stood out for me. The options are endless but below is a list of a few of my favorite places to check out:

  • Drive the winding roads of Sa Colabra
  • Take a dip at Illetes Beach
  • Take the old train to Soller
  • Eat delicious local tapas at Ca n Toni in the Old Town

This hilltop village offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and boasts beautiful gardens like the Jardin Exotique d’Eze.

Villefranche-sur-Mer

This town on the coast is truly charming, with a beautiful harbor and an Old Town rich in history.

The Amalfi Coast

Rent a Scooter and drive along the coastline anywhere from Naples through Positano and into Amalfi. Stroll through the bougainvillea-lined streets and have lunch down near the port.

  • Superyacht Seasons

A super yacht’s yearly schedule is decided by the yachts owner; if is a charter yacht then the schedule is based on when and where the yacht is chartered. Generally speaking , yachts tend to spend the summer season in the Mediterranean and winters in the Caribbean or USA.

How long is a yachting season?

Typically, a super yacht will arrive in the Mediterranean from the Caribbean between February and May to start the summer season. It is during this period the crew leave, enrol on a training course, such as Yachtmaster Power , or move to a different boat.

when does yacht season start

The Mediterranean yachting season finishes September to October time. Not all yachts will make the crossing to warmer climates, some will stay in the Mediterranean over the winter for scheduled maintenance and surveys, this is called a “yard period”.

The best time to look for yacht jobs

Traditionally crew start looking for work anytime between February and May, which is when the majority of yachts will be returning from the Caribbean.

As the yachts get bigger and bigger they require more Deckhands and Stewardess to keep the yachts running. We have also noticed that the employment window is growing too, with new crew finding their dream job in the middle of the summer season.

Try dock walking in Antibes for super yacht work

Whether you choose Antibes or Palma depends on what type of yacht you are looking to work on.

Antibes, in the South of France is generally where the larger motor yacht can be found. The transport network is excellent providing access, via train, to ports from Monaco to St Tropez.

Palma is home to the sailing yachts and motor yachts. There are fantastic services in Palma so sailing yachts are more likely to spend winters undergoing refits or repairs here.

The best times to find a job in yachting to give you the best chance at scoring work! 1. At an international event such as a boat show

2. When the yachts are in season

3.  When there’s a change over of crew (generally at the start and end of a season)

All of these times are when work is the most prominent with jobs onboard.

So why is there more workaround when there is an international boat show or large luxury event? If a boat is for sale or up for charter it will be participating at the boat show to show off to potential buyers and charter agents.

When a yacht is getting ready for boat shows you can imagine it needs to look amazing! So it’s all hands on deck with often short turnarounds and extra hands needed its a prime opportunity to get some day work and help out onboard where needed.

Popular boats shows and events include the Miami International Boat Show in February ,  The Cannes Film Festival and Monaco Grand Prix in May, Sanctuary boat show on the gold coast Australia also in May, The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (Otherwise known as FLIBS) held in late October, and the Antigua Charter Yacht Show in December. I suggest doing a search online to find out more if you’re looking for work and an upcoming boat show or event is happening soon in the yachting hubs or close to where you’re based.

Now for the yachting seasons… the most important time to look for work!

Med Season (Mediterannean Season)- April/May – September/Oct The med season generally begins late April/early May when yachts are preparing for summer charters and events like the Cannes Film Festival held in May. In the lead-up to the season, there will often be opportunities for day work and permanent positions as vessels crew up for the season. Caribbean season Late November marks the beginning of the Caribbean season, with the Antigua Charter Yacht Show kicking things off in early December. Popular spots for yachts in the USA/Caribbean include Fort Lauderdale (Main yachting hub), West Palm Beach, Antigua, and St Maarten.

Dual Season Yachts (yachts that do both main yachting seasons)

The majority of dual-season yachts will begin their crossing back to the Med Feb/March to get ready for the summer season in the Mediterranean . Some yachts remain in the Caribbean as late as May. It all depends on the charters booked, owner preferences and schedules.

Yachting Seasons in Australia

The Whitsunday season including Great Barrier Reef charters generally run from April to November. From November to late January/February it is the busy summer season in Sydney.

Finding work at the beginning and end of a season is also prime time to look for work onboard. Yacht crew work all season, some leave some stay, some want a break and some will go and do training, therefore, positions become available.

Don’t leave it too late though when the season is all done – especially if it’s the med season as you could miss your opportunity to jump on a boat that is destined for the Caribbean or the states. The dual-season yachts leave soon after the season wraps up which can be anywhere from September- to October.

Want to know the three best times to find a job in yachting to give you the best chance at scoring work?

Are you wondering how to get a job on a yacht? How to find work as a yacht stew or deckhand?

Check out this episode! Yachting is seasonal, there are boat shows and events when more yacht crew are needed, and there’s a change over of yacht crew at the beginning and end of a season. It’s about timing it right to maximise job opportunities in the yachting industry.

Everything That’s Leaked About Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5

By Amy DeVore

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 4 Reunion Recap

The Below Deck franchise on Bravo has launched many successful spin-offs since it’s inception in 2013. One of these spin-offs is Below Deck Sailing Yacht , which has just finished airing Season 4 . In this series, Captain Glenn Shephard faithfully leads his crew each season onboard the Parsifal III sailing yacht. Since Season 2, Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher , First Officer Gary King , and Chief Engineer Colin MacRae have joined Captain Glenn for filming.

These three yachties have now become the faces of Below Deck Sailing Yacht. Their tightly-knit friendship and playful banter have always made for great television. However, Season 4 was rough on this faithful trio. During the Season 4 reunion, it became clear that some of these friendships were fractured beyond repair.

Here’s a quick recap to help break this down: Daisy and Gary’s long-standing flirtation came to a head. This was due to Gary’s “casual” leaking of his and Daisy’s physical encounter(s) in between Seasons 3 and 4. This news came as a shock to Colin, as he and Daisy were entering into a boatmance when this revelation struck.

During the reunion, a since broken-up Daisy and Colin threw stones at each other, each blaming a lack of trust as the cause. The two are no longer close. Gary is still friends with both of his coworkers, however.

Currently, Below Deck fans have their eyes open wide for signs of Season 5’s filming. Images of a crew alongside the Parsifal III have been taken (and shared). Other fans have undergone deep dives on social media to unearth possible new cast members. With that in mind, here is everything that’s been leaked about Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5.

The Filming Location

Spotted in Ibiza by u/Take_Me_To_Ibiza in belowdeck

Last month, a fan caught sight of the Parsifal III docked in Ibiza. Images of this infamous vessel were immediately shared over on the Below Deck subreddit . A film crew can even be seen onboard capturing footage. Shortly after this was shared, another fan on a cruise in Ibiza spotted the Parsifal III with a group of charter guests off of the coast of an Ibizan village.

With these two sightings in mind, the Balearic Islands are likely Season 5’s location.

Only Two Returning Cast Members Have Been Spotted

Spotted filming in Ibiza! by u/Successful-Will-95 in belowdeck

While we can safely assume that Captain Glenn will return for Season 5, the other cast members have held a large question mark post Season 4’s drama. That said, several days after the Parsifal III’s spotting, fans caught sight of a new cast eating dinner in an Ibizan town, Dalt Vila. Within the image, Gary and Daisy are clearly seen. Colin is noticeably absent.

If there are any Colin stans reading this, hopeful that Colin is just resting onboard and not at this dinner, I have bad news. Online, Colin is sharing videos on his YouTube Channel, Parlay Revival . These videos show that Colin is currently sailing across the Pacific Ocean on his Catamaran. As the Balearic Islands are connected to the Atlantic Ocean, Colin’s return for Season 5 is unlikely.

Regarding the other Season 4 cast mates, the images making the rounds do not feature any of their faces. However, Deckhand Alex Propson actually announced during the reunion that he will be appearing on another hit Bravo show. Alex is joining the cast of Winter House Season 3.

Based on the leaked images, it appears that Daisy and Gary will be the only returning faces from Season 4. The fans detectives within the same subreddit, however, have unearthed two of the possible new crew’s identities, alleging that one of the blondes appears to be Danni Warren . Side note, Danni’s Instagram recently followed Gary.

NO, Danni, RUN.

Danni also follows Chef Cloyce Martin , whose recent joins are people currently located in Ibiza. If Chef Cloyce is indeed appearing in Season 5, he will have big shoes to fill from the Season 4 Chef, Ileisha Dell . To note, while these 2 new crew members are not verified, their likeness does resemble those within the leaked image.

A Housewife Will Charter The Parsifal III

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Tiffany Moon, MD (@tiffanymoonmd)

Real Housewives of Dallas star Tiffany Moon has posted images of herself onboard the Parsifal III in Ibiza in recent weeks. In her many shared posts of gourmet food, beachy tablescapes, and stunning sunsets, fans are weighing in to ask if she was indeed there for filming. While Tiffany is not responding to these specific inquiries, her timeline of posting coincides with that of the current filming schedule taking place. Therefore, it stands to reason that Tiffany will likely make an appearance in Season 5.

Season 5’s Premiere Date – An Educated Guess

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Below Deck (@belowdeckbravo)

Fans of this series will likely be waiting awhile for Captain Glenn’s latest adventures to broadcast. If keeping to its typical schedule, Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 will begin to air sometime around February – April of 2024.

That’s a long time to wait for answers, but wait we will.

How Long Is The Mediterranean Yacht Season?

When is the yachting season in the mediterranean & how long is it.

It is beneficial for both yacht owners and yacht concierge companies to understand how seasonality affects regional yachting activity. You need this information to schedule yard times, plan vacations, develop yacht charter programs, and anticipate demand for your vessel. Yacht maintenance programs and crew placement are also affected by finite yachting seasons, especially in the Mediterranean region. So, how long is the Mediterranean yacht season?

Mediterranean Summer Cruising

The Mediterranean yacht season starts around April and May and lasts until the autumn months, finishing around September and October. Unlike in the Caribbean yacht season , the yachting season and yacht charter season in The Mediterranean is typically affected by cold winter weather. In many regions of Europe, winter brings low or even freezing temperatures and snow which are typical conditions for a yacht vacation.

Charter guests are not only seeking out warmer weather, but also unique cultural experiences at popular ports like Croatia and Montenegro, the French Riviera, Malta, Sicily, the Balearic Islands, Corsica, and other popular yachting destinations around the Mediterranean Sea.

Yachts are typically crewing up in the early months, even as early as March. Peak Mediterranean yacht charter season runs from April to October, with July and August being the busiest months.

The Mediterranean Yacht Charter Season

April, May, June, July, August, September, October

Winter Season in The Caribbean

The colder winter months see a decrease in charters to the Mediterranean. Instead, plenty of yachts go across the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean with many of them attending the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) which typically takes place at the end of October.

While the Caribbean is the traditional hang out spot for the jet-set elite, more and more yacht owners and charter guests are going to more unconventional yachting destinations . Asia is emerging as a popular destination with Thailand being the standout. The Indian Ocean in Africa is also attracting visitors with The Seychelles being a in-demand destination.

Unique Charter Getaways For The Holidays

Not everyone leaves the Mediterranean in the winter months. Some yacht owners and charter guests want to spend their winter holiday season in Europe. They may crave a change in weather or even white snow. Those who choose to stay in the Mediterranean during winter can experience world-class shopping and plenty of cultural holiday events on shore.

Big Brother 26’s Angela Murray Accused Of Being A Producer Plant After Shocking Reality TV Past Is Revealed

90 day fiancé's jasmine pineda cryptically shows off ring after rumored gino palazzolo split, 90 day fiancé: angela, scottie & skyla deem's worst actions explained (including arrests & violence).

  • Below Deck Sailing Yacht should be the next franchise installment airing, but Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 will be first.
  • The premiere delay is likely due to First Officer Gary King's problematic behavior, the sexual misconduct allegation against him and the need to edit his appearance.
  • Below Deck Sailing Yacht will likely feature the same returning crew as the last three seasons.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 may be just around the corner, and viewers can expect some big changes. Bravo's hit Below Deck spinoff began in 2020 and has already featured four explosive seasons. Fans will once again jump aboard Parsifal III and experience the next adventure with Captain Glenn Shephard and his interior and exterior crew. There have been some troubling new developments with season 5, the cast, and when fans can expect the hit Below Deck spinoff's return.

While the network has been silent about Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, a lot has been going on behind the scenes that may be cause for concern. However, crew sightings have revealed which part of the Mediterranean Sea Captain Glenn will explore with his new and returning crew members. Furthermore, First Officer Gary King has also posted some clues that confirm the location and highlight that filming has already happened. A few observations also highlight that viewers are just a few months away from watching another season despite any drama signaling otherwise.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Latest News

Below deck sailing yacht has had a lot of drama.

Some Below Deck Sailing Yacht sightings practically confirm Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5's location. In June 2023, Reddit user Take_Me_To_Ibiza spotted Captain Glenn's Parsifal III and snapped a picture. The user then reshared the post, stating that the famous boat was "spotted in Ibiza." The iconic reality TV show's last two seasons covered Spain and Italy. Therefore, it wouldn't be surprising that the crew is exploring nearby areas and visiting exotic locations such as Ibiza. The location is part of Spain's Balearic Islands, including resort cities such as Palma. It seems like a perfect setup for the show.

34-year-old First Officer Gary King has been mired in controversy . While his reputation throughout his three seasons in Below Deck Sailing Yacht has largely been negative, with fans believing him to be sleazy, a pot-stirrer, and a bad boss, optics have gotten even worse for Gary. A former makeup artist for the Below Deck franchise, Samantha Suarez came forward in August 2023, alleging that Gary was sexually inappropriate with her during filming in the summer of 2022. Gary was never held accountable by production, although Bravo said they investigated the misconduct allegations.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5's Potential Release Date

Bdsy is not being released when it usually is.

The Below Deck franchise typically follows a schedule. Historically, Below Deck Sailing Yacht has been filmed in August for a Spring/Summer release schedule the following year. It usually follows after Below Deck 's OG series. The show's airing schedule has been similar since 2020. Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 1 aired in February 2020, and the next three seasons also came out at a similar time. Therefore, fans should have expected Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 to appear on their TV screens as early as February 2024.

There has been overlap with the main show and its spinoffs before, so it would not be unusual for that to happen again. However, there has been no mention of the release date, and instead, Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 is up next. This is likely due to Gary's misconduct and the public fan outcry over his continued involvement in Below Deck Sailing Yacht . In the past, certain cast members have been edited out when seriously damaging information has come to light about them.

Peter Hunziker from Below Deck Med season 5 was edited out after his past racist social media posts surfaced. The reason Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 is delayed in its release date, is likely due to Gary's behavior and the network's need to edit him from the latest filming. The Bravo network has yet to make a public statement on why BDSY is not airing next or when fans can expect its return. Since the season has already been filmed, it will most likely move forward soon.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5's Potential Cast

The usual crew will likely be returning.

Bravo hasn't confirmed the crew yet, but cast members' social media profiles hint at who may appear on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5. Captain Glenn would certainly be part of the show, as he's the main icon. Gary is also expected to resume his duties as the First Officer, as some of his posts suggest he was in Ibiza. Chief Engineer Colin MacRae lives and breathes sea life, and would be by Captain Glenn's side. Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher is very busy these days but likely made time to return to the show that made her a Bravo icon. Stew Lucy Edmunds may also return since she became a fan-favorite from season 4.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Trailer

Below deck mediterranean is next up.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans may not be able to count on watching a trailer in the near future since the release date is currently unknown. But until then, fans can look forward to Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 with Captain Sandy Yawn at the help and Below Deck Down Under Chief Stew Aesha Scott returning to the Med series (via Bravo .) Check back to find out more information on Below Deck Sailing Yacht 's return to TV in season 5.

Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 premieres Monday, June 3, at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo.

Yachting Season in the Mediterranean: Where to and When?

Yachting Season in the Mediterranean croatia

In linguistic terms, ‘Mediterranean’ means nothing other than ‘centre of the world’. This should not be surprising, because, for the Romans who coined the term, the Mediterranean was the centre of the then-known world. Basically, the Mediterranean region is the origin of culture and civilisation in the Western hemisphere.

Where exactly is the Mediterranean?

The Mediterranean Sea lies between the continents of Europe, Africa and Asia. There are some secondary seas and bays, such as the Ionian Sea, the Adriatic Sra and the Levantine Sea in the eastern part of the area. In Europe, the Mediterranean Sea touches the countries of Spain, France, Italy, Croatia, Albania, Greece, Turkey and many more.

The best-known islands, island groups and peninsulas in the Mediterranean are the Balearic Islands (e.g. Mallorca), Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Crete, Rhodes, islands in Croatia and Cyprus. All these islands are most easily explorable by boat. So, why not charter your own yacht and experience the real Mediterranean flair?

Where can you yacht in the Mediterranean?

Croatia offers the wonders of Kornati, Brijuni and Krka National Parks, strolling along the city of Dubrovnik and the impressive architecture in Pula and Split. You shouldn’t miss the chance to cruise Croatia’s coast by yacht and explore some amazing islands, such as Hvar, Vis and Korčula. There are many activities to do in France, such as immersing yourself in the typical glamour on the Cote d’Azur or seeking contact with wildlife amid the nature reserves and enchanting bays of Corsica.

Greece has lots of island groups of the Ionian Sea, Cyclades, Dodecanese and Saronic Gulf to offer. There you can sample delicious Greek food, trace ancient civilisations, visit UNESCO sites and relax on some of the Mediterranean’s most beautiful beaches. In Italy, you can explore the rich archaeological sites of Naples and the Amalfi Coast. Here you are free to travel to Sicily or the Emerald Coast of Sardinia and past the La Maddalena archipelago.

Yachting Season in the Mediterranean

In Spain, you should take in the beauty of the Balearics in Mallorca, the gateway to Ibiza and Menorca. You can visit the Costa Brava to explore beautiful nature reserves, world-class restaurants and museums. There are other amazing countries to explore, such as Montenegro and Turkey. All you need to do is to choose and rent yachts , pack your bags and start exploring!

Which period is the best to charter a yacht?

The best time to travel to the Mediterranean is from spring to autumn. You can expect a warm, dry climate in the region with a long sailing season. The summer months between June and August have the hottest days and warmest sea temperatures, so it’s an ideal time for your Mediterranean yacht charter.

If you want to avoid high prices and crowds, travel during the Mediterranean’s shoulder seasons of spring and autumn. You’ll avoid the crowds, the cost of ports and moorings can be lower, and you can still enjoy amazing weather conditions.

Sailing conditions in the Mediterranean vary depending on where you are sailing. Some regions have wind systems that require more sailing experience and it may be a good idea to hire a skipper. Greece’s Ionian Islands are popular for their calm winds. Wind systems vary and include bura (bora) and jugo in Croatia, meltemi in the Greek Cyclades , tramuntana in Spain, and mistral on the Cote d’Azur, Sardinia and Croatia.

There is no better way to see the world of islands than from the water, and the Mediterranean offers turquoise water, warm sunshine and culturally rich islands. There are hundreds and charters bases along the coastlines and you will be spoilt for choice while trying to choose the location of your charter. No matter which location you choose, you are certain to enjoy the experience!

Celebrate Opening Day Of Seattle Boating Season This May

Two exciting events at Montlake Cut this May allow you to choose your own adventure.

Kelly Dougher

The 2024 Opening Day of Seattle’s boating season is upon us!

Technically Seattle’s boating season is open year-round, but Opening Day celebrates the busy spring/summer season. There are two events happening at Montlake Cut this weekend. There is the ticketed Party on the Cut event on Friday, May 3 and the free Opening Day festivities on Saturday, May 4. Both events take place rain or shine.

Read on for all the details!

party on the cut by windermere cup in seattle

The first event is Party on the Cut from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3 . This event is for ages 21 and up . There will be food trucks, live music, drink tents, and twilight sprints (a preview of the following day’s races). You can buy tickets for $30 and see more info on the Windermere Cup website .

The main event is Opening Day on Saturday, May 4 . This event is family-friendly and free for all to attend. You can bring a blanket and have a picnic on the shoreline while watching the Windermere Cup crew races and the boat parade.

Every May on the first Saturday of the month, the Montlake Bridge is raised at noon and the Opening Day boat parade begins . Opening Day is a storied maritime tradition in Seattle that possibly dates back to 1913. According to the Seattle Yacht Club:

Opening Day offers some outstanding photo and story opportunities. You’ll not find anything like it in the U.S. or, to our knowledge, in the world. The only thing comparable is an annual parade of commercial vessels in Venice, Italy.

The theme for 2024 Opening Day has yet to be announced but we’ll update this post once that happens. Participating boats will be decorated according to this theme. There are prizes awarded in several categories for the best-decorated boats.

Here is Saturday’s schedule:

  • 9:30 a.m. : the Montlake Cut is closed to all boat traffic
  • 10:15: a.m. : Crew races begin
  • Noon : The boat parade commences
  • 3:00 p.m. : Approximate end of the parade
  • 4:00 p.m. : Montlake Cut reopens to traffic
  • 6:00 p.m. : Trophy presentation and closing ceremony

The arrival of a new Four Seasons will always resound farther than its new neighborhood and this latest addition is no different—except now the whispers extend to the seas.

Four Seasons is taking its award-winning service to the ocean with the launch of Four Seasons Yachts , “appealing to discerning guests looking to reimagine their love of travel by experiencing the splendor of modern sea voyaging," according to a statement. Anticipated to set sail in late 2025, bespoke voyages will carve through the sea to some of the world’s most breathtaking destinations. The vessel will be led and staffed by a dedicated team, with staff outnumbering guests.

A rendering of what the Four Seasons yacht will be.

The first of a fleet of Four Seasons yachts, currently being built in Trieste, Italy , will span 14 decks and include 95 suites. True to Four Seasons fashion, the boat is as polished as they come—each custom-designed suite costs over 4 million to build. With “ultimate privacy, flexibility and spaciousness” in mind, the adaptable joining combinations seamlessly integrated into each suite will create villa-like estates in a nautical residential setting. The floor-to-ceiling windows in each room are all about those unobstructed riviera views, while the generous indoor-outdoor space—by way of an expansive private terrace deck—is the spot for sundowners. Accommodation will start at an average of 581 square feet with the roomiest—a four-level suite named the “Funnel”—offering more than 9,601 square feet and completed with a private splash pool and spa area.

Restaurants, lounges, and bars have been carefully considered, from expertly made coffee to meticulously plated sushi or a glass of Champagne on deck. The yacht will be equipped with a full-service spa, salon, and wellness program, the pool can transform into an outdoor movie theater or event space, and the transverse marina will also make the perfect spot to soak in the sun or dive into the warm waters.

Placing sustainability at its forefront, the vessel will use green energy fuels, zero-emission energy sources, and air emissions far better than international standards. There are further plans to integrate more state-of-the-art green technologies down the line.

Along with Four Seasons, there are a few notable masterminds behind the exciting new venture. World-leading shipbuilding group, Fincantieri, will bring its groundbreaking engineering and technology to craft the finest vessels for Four Seasons Yachts with industry expert Larry Pimentel, and luxury entrepreneurs Nadim Ashi and Philip Levine also heading the project. Lead architects Tillberg Design of Sweden and London-based Martin Brudnizki Design Studio (who’s worked with fly-high places such as Annabel’s and many of London’s best restaurants ) will oversee the exteriors and suite designs, with creative direction from Prosper Assouline.

Since Four Seasons Yachts is still far from its maiden voyage, details on itineraries are still yet to be confirmed but rumors of sun-soaked journeys through the Mediterranean and Caribbean are on the horizon. Costs will vary by individual itineraries and will only be announced once reservations open in the third quarter of 2023.

This isn’t the first time the Toronto-based luxury hospitality group has dipped its toes in the water, having launched Four Seasons Explorer cruises many years ago, and with 124 hotels and resorts already in the portfolio, the new venture “represents the next chapter of its long history of industry-leading innovation, and a milestone moment for the company” says Christian Clerc, President of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.

When is boating season? When does boating season start and end?

Boating is one of the popular recreational activities in the US, and as many people know that there will be a peak period for any recreation activity, so when is boating season? When does the boating season start and end?

The boating season usually starts in late April and ends in mid-October in the US. However, it will be shorter for the people who live in the northern regions due to cold weather and longer for the people who live in the southern regions. Yet, if you enjoy cold weather, it will be longer for you.

If the weather is moderate (warm) through the year without reaching freezing temperatures, the boating season typically lasts year-round, and you can enjoy boating throughout the year. So, there will be no “END” for a boating season if the temperatures are warm throughout the year.

That’s what happens in Florida state . Given Florida’s excellent climate, boating season never really ends in Florida; practically every day could be a wonderful time to get out in the waters. Depending on the place you are looking at, the boating season differs a bit.

Since temperatures go (below) freezing in the northern regions, the boating season will be shorter than in the southern regions, where the temperatures won’t decrease much. Though, if you bother less about cold weather, then you can do boating longer than usual.

However, you probably shouldn’t plan to do much waterskiing or tubing when boating during the winter. Still, many of the same activities you enjoy on the warmer water are very much available to you during the cold season, and some might be even more enjoyable, in fact.

So, it depends on the state you are looking at. If the temperatures are warm enough, it won’t be the end even in November. But if the temperatures aren’t warm enough, it won’t even start in April.

when does yacht season start

When does boating season start?

The boating season starts between late March and early May in most states in the US. For example, boating season starts in late March in Florida, whereas in Ohio, it starts in early May. But on average, boating season starts in mid-April in most of the states in the USA.

Depending on the state you are looking at, the “start” differs due to temperatures because if the temperatures aren’t high or warm enough, it will be difficult boating in cold weather unless you don’t mind cold weather.

When does boating season end?

The boating season ends between mid-September and late October in most states in the US. For example, boating season ends in late October or early November in Florida, whereas in New Jersey, it ends in mid-September. But on average, boating season ends in mid-September in most of the states in the USA.

Depending on the state you are looking at, the “end” differs due to temperatures because if the temperatures aren’t cold enough, many people won’t stop boating, implying it’s not an end yet.

When is boating season? (in different states)

The boating season will vary a bit depending on the state you are looking at due to temperature fluctuations. We will now see when does boating season starts in few states.

The boating season usually starts in early May and ends in early October in the US. However, it will be shorter for the people who live in the northern regions due to cold weather and longer for the people who live in the southern regions. Yet, if you enjoy cold weather, it will be longer for you.

When is boating season in Michigan? The boating season in Michigan starts in late May and ends in late October. Though if you don’t mind boating in cold weather in the waters, you can resume boating for a few more weeks.

When is boating season in Florida? The boating season in Florida starts in mid-March and ends in early November. However, you need not worry about that since, given Florida’s excellent climate, boating season never really ends in Florida; practically every day could be a wonderful time to get out in the waters.

When is boating season in Ohio? The boating season in Ohio typically lasts from early May to late September (sometimes ends in early October). Though if you don’t mind boating in cold weather in the waters, you can resume boating for a few more weeks, worrying less about the end.

When is boating season in Connecticut? The boating season in Connecticut starts in early or mid-May and ends in late September. As soon as temperatures rise about the 60-degree mark, most of the boaters start hitting the water. Though if you don’t mind boating in cold weather in the waters, you can resume boating for a few more weeks.

When is boating season in Wisconsin? The boating season in Wisconsin starts in early May and ends in September. Though if you don’t mind boating in cold weather in the waters, you can resume boating for a few more weeks, worrying less about the end.

When is boating season in New Jersey? The boating season in New Jersey starts in late April (early May) and ends in late September. Though if you don’t mind boating in cold weather in the waters, you can resume boating for a few more weeks, worrying less about the end.

Can I use my boat in the winter? (Off-season)

You can use your boat in the winter if you don’t mind being on a boat in cold weather. Crowded areas being less crowded in winter, you can enjoy well in the winter, but basic safety measures need to be followed. Though, if the temperatures go too low, 0 or less, it is not advised to go boating.

All the crowded areas back then during the boating season (summer) will be free now, and you can explore all those places peacefully. With less company around you, winter boating will be fun, and if you adapt to that climate by making necessary arrangements in your boat, you are good to go.

However, if you live in southern regions like Florida, you need not worry about this. Since given Florida’s excellent climate, boating season never really ends in Florida; practically every day could be a wonderful time to get out in the waters.

Winter boating safety is a lot like warm weather boating safety: Manage your speed, keep your eyes ahead, and  don’t fall overboard (hypothermia kicks in quickly). And ensure you are carrying all the safety equipment with you .

Bottom line

Usually, boating season starts in late April or early May and ends in late September or early October throughout the USA in most states. However, if the temperatures are warm enough or you don’t mind boating in cold weather, the boating season will be longer for you.

That’s what happens in Florida state.

So, it depends on the state you are looking at. If the temperatures are warm enough, it won’t be the end even in November. But if the temperatures aren’t warm enough, it won’t even start in April.

When does your official "Boat Season" start?

  • Thread starter Jay Woods
  • Start date Jan 3, 2012
  • Jan 3, 2012

I know that everyone lives in different parts of the country, but I was just curious to know where you live and when you take your boat out for the first time? what conditions do you wait for? etc. I live in central VA, and I usually wait until an 80 degree day (water temp is unimportant) in usually March/April. I've taken my ski boat out as early as the first week of March (thanks, global warming). Typically, if you're obsessed with boat season, you start checking weather the first week of March for that 1st 80+ degree day on a weekend. Just curious guys, this would be a fun topic since I'm bored at work and it's a new year!

Re: When does your official "Boat Season" start? We typically launch mid to late April depending if all the ice is gone by then. I remember last year was a little later as we still had ice in parts of Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching on April 16th which was the start of the local Perch festival/derby. Although, if I remember, our marina was free of ice. If I waited for an 80+ day we wouldn't get very much boating in. My big concern is wind. Anything over ~10 MPH then we stay at the marina. You just get beat up to much with the waves.

Re: When does your official "Boat Season" start? that's chilly! I guess based on your location, you probably don't get in the water very much. Boating must be hard in Ontario.. I'm lucky, not Miami lucky, but I get at least 6 months of boating time every year.. not always 'get in water' boating time, that's limited to about 3-4 months.

Re: When does your official "Boat Season" start? What's a "Boating Season"? High of 80, low of 60 today. Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Years did get in the way for the past month & a half. Now that you mention it, think I'll haul it over to Oxnard Marina tomorrow or Friday & do a little fishing

Re: When does your official "Boat Season" start? SE Ga, I can boat all year long so I guess Jan 1. There are a few days, maybe a couple weeks that is not real good boating weather but the rest of the time we can go. 70's this past weekend, 50's for a couple days then upper 60's by the weekend.

Re: When does your official "Boat Season" start? Sometimes we luck out and get an extended season. In 2010, the spring launch was mid April and the temps were in the mid 60's. Our season always ends at Canadian Thanksgiving. From launch date till then we spend every weekend up at the marina. We have a covered slip so rain or shine we are there. Sometimes we have to turn on the heater, other times it's the A/C. Regardless, it's all about chillax'in on the water.

FWC discuss regulations as 2-day lobster mini-season set to kick off

NORTH MIAMI, FLA. (WSVN) - In anticipation of the annual lobster mini-season, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission discussed several rules and regulations that harvesters and boaters must follow.

The two-day Spiny Lobster Sport Season starts on Wednesday.

“We encourage everyone to have a good time with their families but to do so safely,” said FWC Capt. Rafael Almagro.

During a press conference on Tuesday, FWC officers, along with their partners, went over those regulations.

“The bag limit during mini-season is six per person in Biscayne National Park and Monroe County,” Almagro said. “It’s 12 in the rest of the waters in the state of Florida.

While harvesters will try to max out for the day, they must remember to measure their lobsters.

“That measurement should be a minimum of 3-inches,” Almagro said. “As you can tell, this one is very undersized.”

If the gauge measures past the carapace, they must leave those lobsters behind.

“We measure this one right in between the horns, all the way to the end of the carapace, and as you can tell, it stops, so this will be a keeper lobster,” Almagro said. “If you don’t measure in the water or you just throw them in the boat, there could be somebody that puts them in a cooler and you miss on measuring the lobster, and then you get back to shore, you can get stopped and you can receive a misdemeanor for the violation.”

For people participating in the mini-season, they must also check if the lobster has eggs.

Some other rules that must be followed include no hooking or spearing of any kind. For the captain behind the wheel of their boat, they must have a dive flag and remain vigilant.

“If possible, avoid all areas that have a high concentration of vessels and divers,” Almagro said. “Stay away from these dive flags, at least 300 feet in open waters and at least 100 feet in narrow channels.”

While there are several rules to follow, officials want people to have fun during the mini-season, while respecting the fisheries.

“To ensure that we have lobster for years to come and that our children can enjoy them one day,” Almagro said.

The regular Spiny Lobster Season starts on Aug. 6 and ends on March 31.
