Grey Ghost Precision Glock 19 Slide & Barrel Review: Upgrade Your Glock 19
by Caleb · Published 17Jun20 · Updated 2Mar23
Grey Ghost Precision Glock 19 Slide & Barrel Review
Grey Ghost Precision Glock 19 Slide & Barrel Gears Rating
The Grey Ghost Precision slide and barrel are excellent upgrades for a Glock pistol . The barrel and slide are machined to “match grade” tolerances and have an excellent fit and finish. However, I have not yet had the opportunity to install a red dot optic to take full advantage of the slide…stay tuned for that!
Where To Buy Grey Ghost Precision Glock 19 Slide & Barrel
- You can buy Slides and Barrels directly from Grey Ghost Precision
- Primary Arms carries numerous Grey Ghost Precision parts
- Rainier Arms also carries various Grey Ghost Precision Parts
- Brownells has some Grey Ghost Precision Parts as well
Grey Ghost Precision Glock 19 Slide & Barrel First Impressions
I will be the first to admit that I do not obsess over pistols like I do the AR platform but the Grey Ghost slides really caught my eye while perusing the Rainier Arms website . I checked them out on social media and lo & behold, an old friend from high school now works with them out in Washington. After an initial message to say hello, I asked my friend if it would be possible to review one of their slides & barrels. Grey Ghost obliged and sent one my way. The hardest part of the whole process was deciding which model slide to go with. They offer 4 different versions of the slide and have threaded and non-threaded barrels. I ended up choosing the Version 3 Slide with the non-threaded black nitride match-grade barrel .
When the slide and barrel arrived they were neatly packaged and the slide was fully assembled. I want to make a note that typically slides will not come with the slide parts and sights installed. Grey Ghost Precision did this for me upon my request so that I could start reviewing the slide as soon as possible. I removed the stock slide and barrel from my Gen 3 G19 and installed the new GGP parts . The slide to frame fit had less wiggle and the aggressive serrations on the front & rear made racking the slide very easy.
Check out those aggressive slide serrations. This makes racking the slide very easy.
The first night I had the GGP parts installed I spent about 15 minutes doing some dry fire to get used to the Night Fision sights . They have a large orange front sight with a U-notched rear sight, which was a slight departure from the Ameriglo sights I had on my stock slide. Overall, I was very impressed with the anodizing of the slide and fit & finish seemed to meet my expectations. But, how much can you know about a gun unless you shoot it? Not much I say…so I stuffed some mags and headed to the backyard range.
Grey Ghost Precision Glock 19 Slide & Barrel Installation/setup
The setup I tested the GGP parts with. Gen 3 frame with a Streamlight TLR7.
Upgrading your Glock is a very simple process and that is one of the most attractive things about them. People build “Gucci” Glocks and post them all over the Gram…trust me it is simple. As previously mentioned, Grey Ghost Precision had already installed the slide completion kit and Night Fision sights for me. But, this is not a terribly difficult thing to do. Watch a few videos and you will be good to go. Other than that, I simply removed my stock slide and barrel and swapped them out for the GGP parts . The only stock part that I used with the GGP slide & barrel is the recoil spring assembly.
The Grey Ghost Precision slide is milled in such a way that it can accept Leupold Deltapoint Pro or Trijicon RMR footprints (this also includes Holosun Micro Red Dots ). However, at this time I do not have a micro red dot in either of those patterns. So I opted for the standard height Night Fision sights with the tritium/orange front dot with the tritium rear. The Night Fision front sight is very easy to pick up and track while shooting. The Tritium in the rear is not obnoxiously large like other night sights I have used. I generally prefer a blacked-out rear sight but it did not take me long to adjust to them.
**Apex Tactical Action Enhancement 500 Round Update**
Prior to installing the Apex Tactical Action Enhancement Kit. I also had the Enhanced Extractor but have not installed it yet.
Just before the 700-round mark, I installed an Action Enhancement Kit from Apex Tactical Specialties . The kit includes a trigger with a trigger bar, a safety plunger, and a connector that greatly improves the feel and weight over the stock Glock trigger. The action enhancement kit lowers the trigger pull by about 1lb, reduces takeup and reset distance, and provides a crisp break. But more importantly, this trigger has been extremely reliable. I have taken it through a training class and have close to 500 rounds with no issues. I trust the trigger so much that it is in my EDC G19. I will continue to update this article as the round count on this Action Enhancement Kit grows and keep you up to date on its performance.
After installing the Apex Tactical Action Enhancement Kit. Yes, it shoots as good as it looks.
For the visual learners out there, here are some close-up shots of Grey Ghost Precision Slide & Barrel:

Grey Ghost Precision Glock 19 Slide & Barrel Field Test Results
**Author’s Note: This is going to be an ongoing review of the Grey Ghost Precision parts. Check back often to see how the parts are holding up after I reach the milestones of 1000 rounds, 2000 rounds, etc…
As of June 2020 I have put close to 500 rounds through the Grey Ghost Precision slide & barrel . I have had zero malfunctions and I can tell you this…the pistol is far more accurate than me! Most of the shooting was done between 5-15 yards and consisted of numerous drills. I practiced drawing the pistol and taking my first shot as quickly as possible as well as double and triple taps. The pistol also handled numerous types of ammo with ease. It ate everything from crappy steel case, Winchester white box, and Aguila 115gr full metal jackets to various types of defensive ammo. No hiccups at all.
Since Grey Ghost Precision touts this as a “match-grade” barrel I also did some shooting at 25 yards on a B-8 target and the groups were in the 2-3″ range. Now, before you jump all over me let me say this. I am not the world’s best pistol shooter. I am fully confident that someone else could produce much tighter groups. Once I finally get a micro red dot to fit the GGP slide I will update this article with more in-depth accuracy data. For now, all I will say is that the GGP barrel is certainly more capable than I am.

Grey Ghost Precision EDC Experience
Aside from shooting the 500 rounds through the GGP slide and barrel I also carried the pistol every day for the past 3 months. I know people stress that you need to put 1000 rounds through a pistol before you carry it… but I was impressed with the performance of the GGP parts after that first range trip. I would not EDC a pistol that I do not trust to work when I need it to. After 3 months of carrying the slide does show the slightest bit of holster wear near the muzzle of the gun. There is also some wear on the barrel where it meets the top of the slide. Besides that minor wear, the black nitride coating is holding up very well even though the sweat-inducing North Carolina summer is in full swing.
**1000 Round Update***
I have continued to carry the GGP G19 slide since the publication of this article and it still looks damn good! The holster wear is still minimal and the gun is still running great. I have added a Holosun 508T and I am glad to report that installation was easy. It did take me a few days of dry firing to adapt my draw stroke to the red dot though. But I am now confident in using the dot if a self-defense situation should the need arise. I will detail more of my experience with mounting the dot in the section below.
Besides carrying the GGP G19 every day, I also took it with me to a Gunmag Warehouse Training course taught by Daniel Shaw. The class was a carbine course but there was a heavy emphasis on being able to transition to your pistol so you can stay in the fight. I am happy to report that I had absolutely no issues during the class (minus Daniel breaking out the malfunction stick) and I was able to get solid hits out to 50 yards on steel silhouettes. I was a bit nervous about the cheap brass ammo I was using but the GGP ran like a champion. Be sure to check back in for the continued round count update!

Grey Ghost Precision Glock 19 Slide Optic Mounting
One of the primary benefits of buying a Grey Ghost Precision slide is that is already milled for a red dot. Well, actually it is milled for 2 different styles of red dots, ones with an RMR footprint and the Delta Point Pro . Holosun sent me a 508T-X2 for review so I mounted that bad boy up to the GGP slide. The process was relatively simple as long as you follow the detailed directions that come with the GGP slide. To limit movement of the red dot during recoil GGP includes a shim that locks the optic into the milled-out pocket so be sure to use this (see pictures below). The only modification I had to make involved filing down the right mounting screw so that it did not interfere with the function of the gun. This was a very easy process and took 5 minutes with a bastard file to fix. If you do not do this you will run into malfunctions so please take your time and mount the Holosun 508T correctly.
Zeroing the Holosun 508T-X2 on the GGP slide.
After mounting the 508T and giving the Loctite 24 hours to fully cure I headed to the backyard range. After scouring the internet for data on a good red dot zero I settled on an initial 10-yard zero and then shot to confirm point of impact at 15 and 25 yards. This was a surprisingly fast process and I had my zero within 10 shots. Since mounting the Holosun to the GGP slide I have had no issues with a wandering zero…and that is after being carried every day for months as well as surviving a Gunmag Warehouse Training class. During the class, I was able to get accurate and repeatable A-zone hits out to 50 yards on human silhouette from unconventional positions behind cover. I do not feel this would be the case with just irons. I was a bit hesitant to run a red dot on a pistol but I have seen the light and plan to continue living the “dot life.”
The Holosun 508T-X2 is a truly excellent pistol dot for the money and I would have no hesitation recommending it. It has multiple reticles, a solar power failsafe, and a side-loading battery tray. All of these are extremely desirable features for a dot-mounted pistol. However, I am not done testing out this optic. Right now I currently have about 300 rounds through this optic and have not run into any issues. But I will continue to update this article as the round count increases. Eventually, I will also write a standalone review of the Holosun 508T-X2 once I get more range time with it…and the cost of 9mm comes back down.

Grey Ghost Precision Glock 19 Slide & Barrel Pros
- Excellent fit & finish
- Improved accuracy due to tighter tolerances on slide & barrel
- Ability to mount Leupold/RMR footprint micro red dots
- It looks badass!
Grey Ghost Precision Glock 19 Slide & Barrel Cons
- Version 3 has aggressive slide cuts, which might hurt some shooter’s hands (but they have other versions if desired)
- More expensive compared to some aftermarket Glock slides available
- Some may not like the “skull” logo on the slide cover plate
Final Thoughts on the Grey Ghost Precision Glock 19 Slide & Barrel
Honestly, at this point, it is too early to give my “final thoughts” on the Grey Ghost Precision Slide and Barrel . I simply have to put more rounds through it before I can speak authoritatively on the matter. However, what I can tell you is that if you decide to spend the money on the Grey Ghost Precision parts you will not be let down by the quality. It is hard to explain in writing but you really can feel a difference when the GGP parts are installed. Plus the ability to mount either a Leupold or RMR footprint optic is pretty slick.
Even though the COVID-19 pandemic has made it damn near impossible to find affordable 9mm ammo, I have about 500 rounds of range ammo left to run through this pistol. Once, prices settle down I will pick up more ammo and continue to put the Grey Ghost Precision slide & barrel through its paces. I will update this article accordingly. If you just have to buy some GGP Glock upgrades now I say go ahead, you will not be disappointed.
A Special Thanks to Our Ammo Sponsors
I would like to give a major shoutout to the following manufacturers for providing ammo for use in this review. Without their support, it makes getting reviews done in a timely manner is difficult and I am truly grateful.
- Down Range Ammunition sent me some of their 9mm range and defensive ammo
- Fort Scott Munitions sent some of their 115gr TUI 9mm Ammo
- Troy Outfitters donated some 115gr 9mm FMJ, be sure to check them out on Facebook.
