What to Know About the Accusations Against Andrew Tate

The antagonistic online influencer is facing charges in two separate cases.

Reporting from London

Andrew Tate, an online influencer known for his displays of wealth and his misogynistic views, is facing criminal accusations over sexual misconduct in two separate cases.

Mr. Tate and his brother, Tristan Tate, have since 2022 been battling charges from Romanian prosecutors that include human trafficking.

They were detained in March on a separate arrest warrant issued by the British authorities, the Romanian police said, this one accusing them of sex crimes.

Here’s what to know about the situation.

Who is Andrew Tate?

Mr. Tate, who is both British and American, is a former kickboxer who has gained a large online following by marketing a brand of antagonistic masculinity tied to lavish displays of wealth. That brand has included sexist views that demean women and argue that men are victims of feminism.

Online and in interviews, Mr. Tate has said that women hold some responsibility if they are raped and that they “belong” to men in marriage, while men should be providers and protect them.

Mr. Tate sells access to an online “academy” and a “War Room,” where his fans discuss get-rich-quick schemes. Educators in Britain have warned that his messaging is reaching young boys who are wrestling with their own ideas of masculinity.

Concerns over his influence led several social media sites to ban Mr. Tate in 2022, but he has an active presence on X , where he shares pictures of his luxury cars and rails against “The Matrix” — his conspiratorial term for a network of corporate elites, mainstream politicians and feminists that he claims are victimizing men.

What is he accused of in Romania?

Prosecutors in Romania filed an indictment against Mr. Tate and his brother last June, accusing them and two Romanian women of forming an organized criminal group in 2021 and trafficking women across Romania, Britain and the United States.

Some details of the charges have been kept confidential, but an official in the prosecutor’s office last June confirmed that Andrew Tate is also facing a rape charge.

According to court documents, investigators identified seven women who said that the brothers misled them into believing they wanted a relationship with them. Instead, they were housed in a compound near Bucharest, Romania’s capital, and forced to appear in pornographic videos that were shared online.

The brothers have denied the accusations and said that their wealth had made them targets. “I’m sure at the end we’ll be absolutely exonerated,” Mr. Tate said to reporters after a court ordered their release from house arrest last August.

Since then, they have been ordered to stay in Romania as a judge inspected the indictment. In late April, a preliminary chamber in Bucharest approved the case for a trial.

The new arrest concerns a U.K. accusation.

In March, Mr. Tate and his brother were taken into custody once again in Romania on a new European arrest warrant issued by the British authorities.

The charges related to the arrest were made between 2012 and 2015 and include allegations of sexual aggression, Mr. Tate’s spokesman said. He added that the charges had been dismissed by the Crown Prosecution Service years later.

The Bedfordshire Police in England said at the time that they were working with the authorities in Romania on an investigation into allegations of rape and human trafficking. They had obtained a European Arrest Warrant for two men in their 30s, they said.

The brothers “unequivocally deny all allegations and decry what they perceive as an exploitative use of the legal system,” their spokesman said.

What happens next?

A court in Bucharest in March said that the Tate brothers could be extradited to Britain, but only after legal proceedings in Romania were completed; the court ruled that the brothers could be released in the immediate term. The Romanian authorities have seized part of their assets, including luxury goods and cryptocurrencies. The brothers have appealed that decision, so far without success.

A date has not yet been set for the Romanian trial: lawyers for the brothers have said that they will also fight that decision, which is not final.

Andrew Tate banned from leaving Romania after court overturns ruling that allowed him to travel within EU

Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan were charged in June 2023 with rape, human trafficking and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women. Two Romanian female suspects also face charges as part of the case and all four deny the allegations.

Controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate will not be able to leave Romania while he prepares to stand trial accused of human trafficking.

It comes after a court of appeal in the capital Bucharest overturned an earlier ruling which granted the self-proclaimed misogynist and three other suspects - his brother Tristan and two Romanian women - freedom of movement within the European Union.

The Tate siblings were charged in June 2023 with rape, human trafficking and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women.

The two Romanian suspects also face charges as part of the case and all four deny the allegations against them.

What has happened since brothers were detained?

Andrew Tate , 37, and Tristan Tate, 36, were held in police custody in Romania during the criminal investigation from December 2022 until April 2023 to prevent them from fleeing the country.

They were then placed under house arrest until last August, when courts put them under judicial control , a lighter preventative measure where they were limited to travel within Bucharest and the surrounding Ilfov County.

In April this year, a court in the capital ruled that their trial could go ahead .

US-born Andrew Tate appealed that decision by the Bucharest Tribunal and pending a ruling on it, the four were banned from leaving EU-member Romania.

Then earlier this month, the tribunal lifted the restriction , granting the suspects freedom of movement within the EU.

Romania's anti-organised crime prosecution agency DIICOT challenged that ruling and the Bucharest Court of Appeals has now overturned it.

The court said it "rejects as unfounded the accused's request to replace the obligation to not leave Romanian territory with the obligation of not leaving the European Union".

Tate also faces civil case in UK

In a separate case in May this year, Andrew Tate was served with civil proceedings papers at his home in Romania on behalf of four British women.

Lawyers for the alleged victims said they were bringing a case against Tate at the High Court in the UK, after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) decided not to prosecute in 2019.

The four women allege Tate raped and assaulted them and are seeking "damages for injuries they suffered as a result".

Tate is accused in the case alongside Tristan.

Three of the British accusers were the subject of an investigation by Hertfordshire Constabulary, which was closed in 2019.

The siblings will be extradited to the UK following the proceedings in Romania , after Bedfordshire Police secured a European arrest warrant for further separate allegations of rape and human trafficking which date back to 2012-2015.

A representative for the Tate brothers said they "unequivocally deny all allegations", and are "fully committed to challenging these accusations with unwavering determination and resolve".

Andrew Tate is a former kickboxer and Big Brother contestant who has gained millions of fans by promoting an ultra-masculine lifestyle that critics say denigrates women.

Tristan Tate is also a former kickboxer turned social media influencer like his brother.

BUCHAREST (Reuters) -Internet personality Andrew Tate will not be able to leave Romania while awaiting trial on charges of human trafficking after a Romanian court of appeal on Tuesday overturned a previous ruling.

Tate was indicted in mid-2023 along with his brother Tristan and two Romanian female suspects for human trafficking, rape and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women, allegations they have denied.

In April this year, the Bucharest court ruled their trial could start, a decision Tate appealed. Pending a ruling on his appeal, the four suspects were banned from leaving Romania.

Earlier this month, the Bucharest court lifted the restriction, granting the suspects freedom of movement within the EU, a ruling prosecutors challenged and the Bucharest Court of Appeals overturned on Tuesday.

The court "accepts the challenge brought by anti-organized crime prosecuting agency DIICOT," it said in a statement.

"It rejects as unfounded the accused's request to replace the obligation to not leave Romanian territory with the obligation of not leaving the European Union."

The Tate brothers, both former kickboxers with dual U.S. and British citizenship, are the highest-profile suspects facing trial for human trafficking in Romania.

Tate, a self-described misogynist, has gained millions of fans by promoting an ultra-masculine lifestyle that critics say denigrates women.

"God has made a plan for me, and I am following his decisions," Tate told reporters in court on Tuesday.

"If I get shot in the head, I get shot in the head. If I get free, I get free. If I stay home, I stay home. I'm happy. I'm not emotionally involved in any of the process. I'm going to follow the law. I'm going to respect the Romanian judicial system. Whatever they decide, I will do."

The brothers were held in police custody during the criminal investigation from late December 2022 until April 2023 to prevent them from fleeing the country or tampering with evidence.

They were then placed under house arrest until last August, when courts put them under judicial control, a lighter preventative measure.

How does the charter agreement work?

Once your chosen yacht has been confirmed, we will send you a standard MYBA or Goolets charter agreement that needs to be signed. If your chosen cruise route requires a different embarking or disembarking place other than the yacht's central harbor, delivery/redelivery fees may apply.

What are the payment terms?

After signing the MYBA or Goolets charter agreement, a deposit of 50% of the total charter cost is required. You can pay the fee via bank transfer or credit card (only Visa or MasterCard). The other 50%, an Advance Provisioning Allowance (if applicable), taxes, positioning fees, and any previously agreed charges are payable via bank transfer eight weeks before departure.

and any previously agreed charges needs to be settled via bank transfer six weeks before departure.

What are the actual operating expenses?

Once you made the final payment of the charter, you pay the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA). Under MYBA terms, this fee is usually between 30% - 40% of the total charter cost.

This covers the operating expenses of a charter (explained under Charter Terms), such as fuel, food, drinks, port fees, and ad hoc incidentals. The APA is given to the captain before the start of your charter. Some yachts and gulets also offer food/drinks packages which are normally paid in cash during embarkation, while the port taxes are paid during embarkation according to the costs presented by the captain. The Captain ensures that the yacht is fully fuelled and stocked when you step on board.

While an up-to-date summary of accounts can be requested at any time during your charter, a full set of accounts will normally be submitted by your captain at the end of the cruise.

In case of surpassing the amount of money already paid during your yacht charter (with the APA), additional funds (in cash) will be required at once. If there is an outstanding balance from the yacht charter, it should be settled in cash or by bank transfer before you disembark. In case of a remaining credit at the end of your charter, you will be fully reimbursed.

If a transfer by car to and from the yacht is required, it can be arranged either by the charter company or by the yacht’s captain, payment for which will be deducted from your APA.

How can we make your yacht charter personalized?

To ensure a unique and tailor-made charter experience, we will send you a detailed questionnaire eight weeks before you embark on your yacht. You can tell us your group's preferences and special requirements, such as dietary or medical needs, any particular wishes regarding exercise, entertainment, or if you are celebrating a special occasion.

Are internet and satellite TV connections available onboard?

In case you really need to get some work done during your vacation, no worries. On most yachts, there is mobile broadband internet and satellite TV, so you will stay connected to the rest of the world. Just keep in mind that the service can be limited in some areas (you are in the middle of the sea after all). If you anticipate regular usage of the internet, let us know prior to embarking, as upgrades might be subject to availability and additional fees may apply.

Is smoking allowed onboard?

Smoking is permitted only on the outside decks, and on some yachts, only in dedicated outdoor areas. Please consult our charter brokers for more information. For safety reasons, smoking indoors is strictly prohibited on all yachts.

Are tips for the crew mandatory?

Even though tips are not mandatory, the guests normally extend a gratuity to the devoted crew. The amount depends on the guest's satisfaction, but it is approximately 10% of the charter fee. The tips are equally distributed among all crew members by the captain.

Should I get any insurance?

In case of unforeseen circumstances that might prevent the charter, we highly recommend taking out the Cancellation and Curtailment Insurance to protect the investment. Besides that, the guests should be covered by Personal Accident and Medical Insurance, and their belongings are insured against theft, loss, or damage. Charterers’ Liability insurance is also highly recommended. Contact your broker for further assistance and additional advice regarding the insurance.

How are the charter rates calculated?

Charter rates are estimated weekly. If a charter exceeds seven days, they are calculated pro-rata against the weekly rate divided by seven and multiplied by the number of charter days. Keep in mind that some yachts are only chartered on a weekly (Saturday-Saturday or Sunday-Sunday) basis, especially during the high season.

High and low season rates vary depending on charter locations and types of yachts. The high rates apply to the most popular charter periods (July/August and Christmas/New Year), and to all major events. Low season rates apply to all other periods.

The charter rates on our website are up to date but may be subject to change.

What are the charter terms?

Most charter rates are based on MYBA Terms, which entail that the yacht is in full commission, with all necessary equipment, properly insured for marine risks, and managed by a crew, whose wages, food, and clothing are the owner’s expense.

All other operating expenses are charged to the charterer and include (but are not limited to): fuel and lubricating oils for the yacht and her tenders; local taxes; pilotage; port, harbor, and marina dues; customs clearance; water and power; personal laundry; all provisions, wines, beers, spirits, soft drinks and consumables for the charterer’s group; shoreside excursions, telecommunication, and internet costs.

Please note that, occasionally, a yacht may offer an alteration on the terms described above. For further information about specific yachts, consult your broker.

Do any other taxes apply?

For charters in European waters, Value Added Tax and delivery costs may be charged on the gross Charter Fee, due to the European Union tax legislation. In other countries, local taxes may also apply. Depending on your chosen charter destination, our brokers will provide any prevalent rates.

Andrew Tate has won an appeal to be released from house arrest in Romania as he awaits trial on charges of human trafficking .

The Bucharest Court of Appeals said in a written ruling that it “replaces the house arrest measure with that of judicial control for a period of 60 days from August 4 until October 2”.

While his placement under judicial control represents a lighter restrictive measure than house arrest, Tate will need a judge’s permission if he wishes to travel outside the municipality of Bucharest and nearby Ilfov county.

Tate has been under house arrest while authorities investigate allegations against him

The misogynistic influencer was arrested in December and charged in June along with his brother Tristan and two Romanian female suspects.

The Tates are accused of rape, human trafficking and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women, with seven women alleged to have been targeted. They deny the charges.

Andrew Tate claims ‘truth will be known very soon’ as he arrives at Court of Appeal

Under Romanian law, the case was sent to the Bucharest court’s preliminary chamber, where a judge has 60 days to inspect the case files to ensure legality.

The Tates spent three months in police detention after detectives raided their home in December, successfully appealing to be moved to house arrest on 31 March. While they lost an appeal to be released from that restriction last month, a further attempt this week was granted by the court.

“After 10 months, 3 in jail, 7 at home. After 15 million euro of asset seizures. After an inditement [sic] based on nothing. The file was passed to a Judge who has ruled it weak and circumstantial. I have been released from house arrest but must remain within Romania,” Andrew Tate posted on Twitter after Friday’s ruling.

Andrew Tate, right, and his brother Tristan were at the Court of Appeal on Tuesday

Tate will not be allowed to be “in close proximity with any of the other defendants, any of the witnesses or any of the alleged victims and their immediate family”, his spokesperson said, adding: “This positive outcome gives us confidence that more favourable developments are on the horizon.”

Speaking outside his home in Bucharest on Friday, Tate told reporters: “In January, when I was thrown into a jail cell, the media reported and told the world that I was a terrible person, they said that I hurt people and that I make a lot of money from a criminal enterprise.

“Here we stand seven or eight months later and I have not seen a single victim on the news, I have seen lots of girls sticking up for me, lots of people defending me, I’ve not seen a single person stand up and say that I have hurt them, not one.

“It’s very exhausting to continue to perpetuate lies, [and] it’s very hard to keep lies afloat when you have no actual evidence. We’ve been completely innocent since the beginning of this and I have to give absolute faith to the Romanian judicial system for finally making the right decision in letting us free.

“I’m sure in the end we will be absolutely exonerated and everybody who was pushing these lies and reporting things on repeat without any substantial evidence are going to have to analyse within themselves why they decide to try and destroy people’s lives purely for views.

The brothers have accused five individuals of conspiring to falsely accuse them of human trafficking and rape

“I’ve done nothing wrong, God knows I’ve done nothing wrong, in my heart I know I’ve done nothing wrong. I think the people at home with a functioning brain understand we’ve done nothing wrong.”

Last month, the brothers launched legal action against a woman in Florida , her parents, and a former resident of their home in Romania and her male friend, accusing the five individuals of conspiring to falsely accuse them of human trafficking and rape.

The pair are seeking at least $5m in damages, claiming that the allegations cost them their freedom and millions of dollars in income from their lucrative social media, podcasting and business ventures.

Romanian investigators said in their indictment that the Tates and two Romanian women formed a criminal group in 2021 “in order to commit the crime of human trafficking” in Romania, the UK and the US.

Investigators say the seven alleged victims were recruited with false declarations of love, but then forced to take part in pornography, and were controlled by “intimidation, [and] constant surveillance” and claims they were in debt. The Tates argue that all of the women were free to leave the estate.

Several women in Britain also are pursuing civil claims against the internet personality, alleging they were victims of sexual violence.

Tate was banned from TikTok, YouTube and Facebook for alleged hate speech and misogynistic comments, including that women should bear responsibility for being sexually assaulted.

But he remains on Twitter, where he has more than 7 million followers, many of them young men and schoolchildren.

Tate is a ‘legitimising force’ for misogynistic ideas, campaigners have previously told ‘The Independent’

YouGov polling data shared with The Independent in May found that 63 per cent of British adults had heard of Tate – with 6 per cent holding a positive view of him, and around half viewing him negatively.

Of men aged between 18 and 29 who had heard of him, 26 per cent said they agreed with his opinions on women, rising to 28 per cent of 30 to 39-year-olds.

Education minister ‘would not want Andrew Tate to speak on university campuses’

Campaigners told The Independent that Tate is a “legitimising force” for misogynistic ideas and described his luxurious lifestyle as “a dangerous mask” for “violent and misogynistic content”, which is “drip-fed” to his audience.

Rather, he is using the opportunity to promote his Solana-based ‘ memecoin ‘—named DADDY—on the world’s stage. “I am free,” the would-be political prisoner announced in an X post Friday. “I’m free to do a tour around the world. A DADDY tour,” he proclaimed in an accompanying video, listing off locations he wants to visit, including “Tokyo, Dubai, [and] Miami.”

Tate is just one of numerous celebrities who have seized on memecoins as a way to promote their brand and to make money. Tate began promoting his coin on June 11, and shortly after, it reached a market capitalization of over $217 million .

I AM FREE. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 3 YEARS I CAN LEAVE ROMANIA. THE SHAM CASE IS FALLING APART. $DADDY X THEREALWORLD GLOABL TOUR LOADING – Will you be there? https://t.co/9TN9VyfzRh pic.twitter.com/LieZl7OF9F — Andrew Tate (@Cobratate) July 5, 2024

The so-called masculinity influencer launched the currency to dethrone rapper Iggy Azalea’s $MOTHER , “for the patriarchy.” “We’re bringing the Gs back make me a f***ing sandwich females,” he added. And he’s succeeded in doing so: It currently trades at a value five times greater than Azalea’s, according to CoinGecko data .

Tate’s views do not reflect those of the entire cryptocurrency world and some of those who purchased his token are likely driven by profit-seeking rather than ideology. Nonetheless, popularity of Tate’s coin points to the crypto industry’s lingering problem with misogyny. While some elements of crypto have been hostile to women since its inception, the current market revival has been based in part on appealing to the mainstream. This includes the institutional investors who are gaining access to the market via the spot Bitcoin ETFs , and members of Congress, who are making strides towards regulation . So, must the “ crypto bro ” evolve in order for the industry to be taken seriously?

The unwavering ‘crypto bro’

The term “crypto bro”—an echo of the “tech bro” term long used to decry obnoxious elements of Silicon Valley—gained traction during the 2021 crypto bubble. The phrase doesn’t have a precise definition, and can describe everything from hackathon-loving blockchain geeks spouting lore, to far-right libertarians who view crypto as a way to defy government control. In any case, the term reflects the uncomfortable truth that it was an industry created by men, for men. Indeed, a 2021 survey shows only 5% of users globally were women.

As a female reporter coming to the industry in 2024, I’ve encountered “crypto bro” culture firsthand. And I should add, it has some upsides: As a woman, one walks directly into the bathroom at conferences, strolling past the queue patiently checking X. But despite conducting well over 100 interviews this year, I’ve yet to speak to a female founder. There’s perhaps one exception in Azalea, but her bid to become crypto’s matriarch swiftly triggered a counteroffensive from Tate.

There are, of course, an abundance of women who have built successful companies and careers in crypto. To name just a few: He Yi, co-founder of Binance, and co-founder of the Tezos blockchain, Katherine Breitman. Caitlin Long, the founder and CEO of Custodia Bank for digital assets. The CEO of Yuga Labs, the company behind the infamous Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT, is Nicole Muniz. At Coinbase , Alesia Haas and Emilie Choi claim the roles of CFO and COO, respectively. Mary-Catherine Lader leads Uniswap Labs as COO.

These women have made it in crypto, but they are much an exception. The industry is “deeply entwined with masculinity,” writes Professor Alexis Henshaw. Why? The best answer may be risk tolerance. It’s believed men are more likely to be accepting of riskier investments, and crypto is a more volatile asset.

But Professor Dan Cassino, a researcher of crypto and masculinity at Fairleigh Dickinson University, says it runs deeper than this. Crypto is marketed as a way for individuals to demonstrate stereotypically masculine traits, he argues. This includes, “mastery of complex systems, defiance of existing power structures, all in service of a heroic narrative that ends—in the telling of the people selling the crypto—with getting rich,” he says. That is, provided they display the masculinized traits of loyalty and perseverance.

This phenomenon is exemplified in a video posted by one Wall Street Wolverine amid the 2021 crash. The crypto influencer looks into the camera and commands: “Gentleman, here we invest with balls. Here, we HODL…Crying here? Get your f***ing money and put it in a Santander fixed-term savings account.”

Cassino is surprised it’s taken until now for Tate to launch a coin. His audience—young men who value traditional masculinity, but feel that they’re falling short of it—is the same audience disproportionately likely to buy crypto, he says. Tate has calculated that if he can sell his “ Hustler’s University ” to his fans, he can sell them on crypto.

Young men moving to the right

Unlike in previous cycles, thanks to the ETFs, institutional investors have now moved into the market. As a result, the industry no longer relies solely on the wallets of young men. Despite this, retail investors are still setting the industry’s tone. While surveys suggest that female adoption is rising, in 2024, the crypto bro “certainly still exists,” says Cassino.

Today, just 6% of crypto CEOs are women. And users are still disproportionately young men. The most recent adoption stats —taken from Norway—show that men are still more than three times as likely than women to own crypto, and 70% of users are under 40. In March, the Financial Times reported that custodian Copper served sushi off two naked models in a private event at a crypto conference. Meanwhile, as celebrities keep their distance, Elon Musk and Donald Trump have emerged as the industry’s figureheads. And now, there’s Tate’s global DADDY tour to look forward to.

And in light of broader shifts in the political landscape, the perseverance of the crypto bro makes sense. A recent report found that young men have become more conservative since 2014—around the time when crypto started gaining popularity—and are the only U.S. population group to do so. “Despair” and “disillusionment” with established politics were popular words used among survey respondents. Facing a society where gender roles are influx, and women are more likely than men to attend college , some are looking to Tate and crypto’s promise of financial freedom to revive notions of traditional masculinity.

Memecoins and the boys

Usurping the role NFTs played in the previous cycles, memecoins have dominated the tone of the current market revival. Memecoins merge finance, internet trends, and gambling, and investors flock to the highly speculative, tongue-in-cheek assets during viral moments. And young men form the “basis” of this craze, says Cassino. While the crypto world once revolved entirely around Bitcoin, many newer adopters have instead embraced the likes of DOGE, PEPE and SHIB (and now DADDY). This reflects an ongoing desire to join a community bonded by shared risk, and united with a middle-finger-up to the system, any system—even crypto itself.

There is no data on the gender divide of memecoin investors. However, as high-risk and anti-authority investments, the coins share similar appeal to memestocks . Thus, enthusiasts for the latter can be considered a proxy for memecoin hobbyists. Nathaniel Popper’s recent book The Trolls of Wall Street retells the memestock saga where “degenerates” on Reddit pulled off the GameStop trade that shook Wall Street. A tale of institutional defiance to some, Popper unravels a different story, one of socially isolated and chronically online young men failing to prosper by traditional means, and thus looking for an outlet.

The memestock mania shares similar characteristics to the Tate superfan with young men seeking a community to push back against a perceived threat masculine identity. But does crypto need to shed its bros to be taken seriously? Cassino believes that if the watering-down of bro culture resulted in the proliferation of gray suits, crypto may lose its appeal, morphing into any other financial instrument. But then, would anyone be interested in it? “You could argue that without the crypto bros, there isn’t much left,” he says.

Crypto’s unique selling point is the community that surrounds it. Community is never a bad thing, particularly one that allows men to bond. The challenge crypto faces is how to retain its culture while broadening its membership. Arguably the crypto bro fell out of favor due to bad actors like Sam Bankman-Fried and Changpeng Zhao . But now, with both behind bars, the industry has a chance to rebrand degeneracy as inclusivity, and to remind the public that its existence came about as a response to the failure of broader social and economic systems.

Andrew Tate’s “Manosphere” Is Built on a Shallow Idea of Human Freedom

Andrew tate offers his fans a sense of purpose by telling them to unleash man’s “primal” drives. built on dubious evolutionary psychology, tate's “manosphere” doesn’t reflect an age-old human nature but rather an empty, neoliberal view of freedom..

I n June, British American influencer Andrew Tate was charged in Romania with rape, human trafficking, and forming an organized criminal group to sexually exploit women. The self-described misogynist’s emergence as an internet sensation over the last year or so has sparked concern internationally, given his noxious influence over many young men via the “manosphere” — the ecosystem of websites, blogs, and forums that promote a supposedly beleaguered masculinity, misogyny, and opposition to feminism.

Ex-kickboxer Tate has his defenders and enthusiasts even beyond his core demographic of misguided male adolescents. Podcaster Joe Rogan demurs from Tate’s most extreme woman-hating ravings, but has praised him as emblematic of good breeding; to complain of the “toxic masculinity” of Tate and others is simply to be unappreciative of “the men who carve the world.” Psychologist Jordan Peterson , a regular guest on Rogan’s podcast, insists that he is uneasy at Tate’s alleged “pimpy side,” but appreciates Tate’s defiant individualism. Peterson expresses sympathy with Tate’s message that “forthright aggression is preferable to a cringey defeat” — defeat presumably meaning accepting supposedly politically correct social conventions about masculinity and feminism.

To better understand where Peterson is coming from, it’s worth considering his attacks on French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre with reference to his concept of “bad faith” — in short, lying to yourself to avoid responsibility for your real situation. Peterson does not grasp the complicated history of Sartre’s political engagement that he so condemns, nor the Sartrean concept of bad faith, which he throws back against him. But his intervention is interesting insofar as it points to a key operative logic in figures like Tate and his defenders. Without making an iota of a concession to his vile worldview, this also offers some potential to tap into something that Tate’s followers misindentify in his message — the understandable but wildly misplaced wish for a meaningful, flourishing life.

These prolific voices on the manosphere are not all equivalent. For instance, as Jacobin contributor Ben Burgis has argued , Rogan is worth taking more seriously in that he represents a demographic that often holds objectionable views in many areas, but is also potentially amenable to left-wing politics. Rogan has shown curiosity for democratic socialist ideas and even endorsed Bernie Sanders. Certainly not all those attracted to the culture of the manosphere can be shaken loose from the reactionary bloc, but it is worth considering how we might appeal to those who are potentially open to a more serious politics. To that end, it is illuminating to highlight the bad faith of advocates of traditional “masculinity” based on biological nature.

Bad faith, in Sartre’s sense, involves a form of lying to oneself and, more specifically, lying to oneself about the true nature of one’s human condition. For Sartre, there are two sides of what it is to be human: facticity and transcendence. Facticity refers to given attributes or features: one’s given physical attributes, personality, features of ourselves that we find situated in the environment. For example, being a man, being American or Armenian, the family that one grows up in, where and in which historical period one lives, etc. Facticity is the ground from which we act on the world (and acting on the world also changes our facticity).

Transcendence, on the other hand, is synonymous with freedom. It is our always-present power to negate the surrounding world and to invent something new. Bad faith emerges from fleeing our freedom. Freedom is commonly thought of as one of our most prized conditions, but it can also give rise to a feeling of overwhelming responsibility.

When we feel the anxiety that this freedom thereby produces, one tempting response is to deny it and to affirm only our facticity: I am a fixed thing, without power to change my situation; I am more akin to rock than a self-transcending subjectivity. This bad faith pretends that essence precedes existence: we are a predetermined entity whose nature is already predefined, so that we are simply what we are and nothing more, perfectly coincidental with ourselves.

Sartre’s classic example of this is the café waiter whose every gesture is exaggerated, labored, and stylized: “He is playing at being a waiter in a café.” As an aside, Tate’s lawyers defend his conduct by saying he is simply playing a character. They are right, but not in the sense that they think; Tate’s every gesture smacks of a hammed-up performance of what he insists he already is.

Psychology and Ideology

So, why is bad faith an insightful category to understand the politics of the manosphere? There are two expressions of this form of reasoning common in this culture: first, the bad faith of biological determinism, often expressed in the language of evolutionary psychology; and second, the premium that such figures put on authenticity in a wholly insubstantial way, which amounts to another bad faith flight into facticity.

Tate routinely appeals to “human nature” as an irrefutable explanation for his aggression and acquisitiveness, sneering at “losers” as the unlamented waste of natural selection. Rogan’s enthusiasm for Tate’s predatory prowess is similarly in keeping with a trend of interest in crude evolutionary psychology and biological determinism.

Its premise is that humans are transhistorically, unchangingly powered by primal drives, especially hierarchy, competition, and aggression. By extension, war is a natural feature of human society. Faced with the Russian and Chinese threats to American hegemony, Tate’s primal masculinity is a model to aspire to. To suppose otherwise is to be “unrealistic about the world.”

Evolutionary psychology’s function as Sartrean bad faith is further illustrated by Rogan’s regular guest, former special forces operative and Republican congressman, Dan Crenshaw. In response to Rogan’s eulogy of competition and martial arts and complaint that wokeness is rendering America “full of pussies,” Crenshaw averred: “We know it to be true. [. . .] The reason I love the subject of psychology is because it kind of tells us things we already intuit to be true.”

In this instance, Crenshaw insists that suffering deep trauma will make you a better person “as long as tell yourself the right stories.” The determinism of the vaguest, unspecified “science and a lot of psychological research” is put to service of militarism: the stark ramifications of warfare are ultimately inevitable, minor, and superable.

A comparable figure is British podcaster Chris Williamson. Shooting to semi-fame through his appearance on the UK TV dating show Love Island , Williamson admirably concluded that celebrity culture was a vacuous trap. He set out to reflect on what it would mean to live a fulfilling life, adding an interesting personal tone by relating to his painful childhood experiences of being bullied.

In this he echoes Rogan and one of his regular guests, retired Navy SEAL David Goggins, who both talk about the pain and distress at the inadequacy they felt as young men. In his laudable questioning and task of “understanding the world,” Williamson has unfortunately found answers from a generally reactionary assortment of fitness gurus, proponents of assertive masculinity, critics of feminism, and champions of evolutionary psychology.

In a recent interview , Williamson presented psychologist Cory Clark as an expert in evolutionary psychology, which, he stressed, is also “one of my areas of obsession.” As part of her case that psychology is censored by a “woke” academic elite with little interest in scientific reality, Clark insisted that people simply dislike conclusions that regard differences according to gender and racial group as results of evolutionary psychology or behavioral genetics and reject scientific findings for men outperforming women or whites outperforming blacks on that basis.

Both conflate “censorship” with justifiable skepticism about scientifically trivial and socially malicious research. But attempts to harness the authority of “science” to legitimate existing hierarchy is nothing new, nor is Williamson and Clark’s maneuver of sheltering behind the proclaimed aim of simply seeking out truth against those who would censor it out of “hypersensitivity.” Reviewing such a tradition, Noam Chomsky wrote some fifty years ago:

Imagine a psychologist in Hitler’s Germany who thought he could show that Jews had a genetically determined tendency towards usury (like squirrels bred to collect too many nuts) or a drive towards antisocial conspiracy and domination and so on. If he were criticized for even undertaking these studies, could he merely respond that “a neutral commentator . . . would have to say that the case is simply not settled” and that the “fundamental issue” is “whether inquiry shall (again) be shut off because someone thinks society is best left in ignorance”? I think not. [. . .] Were this hypothetical psychologist to disregard the likely social consequences of his research (or even his undertaking of research) under existing social conditions, he would fully deserve the contempt of decent people. Of course, scientific curiosity should be encouraged (though fallacious argument and investigation of silly questions should not), but it is not an absolute value.

Chomsky insisted that those who wish to research questions linking race and intelligence face a heavy burden of justification: for the mere undertaking will reinforce the most reprehensible prejudices. “In fact,” Chomsky argues, “it seems that the question of the relation, if any, between race and intelligence has little scientific importance (as it has no social importance, except under the circumstances of a racist society). . . . It would, of course, be foolish to claim, in response, that ‘society should not be left in ignorance.’ Society is happily ‘in ignorance’ of insignificant matters of all sorts.”

The Poverty of Evolutionary Psychology

Williamson, determined to harness the authority of science for his anti-feminism, laments the lack of deference to evolutionary psychology in academia, pondering whether “mainstream science” is redeemable, given its supposed culture of “censoring” the “scientifically accurate, but politically incorrect.” In fact, even in its most sophisticated variants, evolutionary psychology is prone to reductivism. As sociology professor Hilary Rose and life sciences professor Steven Rose state,

While all biologists share the assumption that humans are an evolved species, evolutionary psychologists go much further, making the profoundly un-Darwinian assertion that “human nature” was fixed in the Pleistocene and has not changed since. Their argument is that biological evolution has not been able to keep up with the rate of cultural change, summed up as “stone age minds in the twenty-first century.”

In doing so, evolutionary psychology “ignores evidence from both archaeology and population genetics.”

Sociologist of violence Siniša Malešević goes further, arguing that the “abundance of violent narrative representations stands in stark contrast with the actual experience of face-to-face fighting which is remarkably rare.” Malešević shows that violent intrahuman combat, far from a full, tragic constant of human history, is dependent on very specific social and historical contexts. These involve interactions of highly contingent alignment of social organizations (notably states), ideological frames, and micro-interactional processes. Rogan and Crenshaw’s belief that men have recently been rendered egregiously docile counter to the iron laws of history and biology simply does not withstand the merest empirical scrutiny of humans’ propensity for pugnacity.

If such conceptions of biological determinism are so inadequate as an explanation of the social world, why are they so popular? Simply put, such narratives are intrinsically attractive to conservative forces, since their logical corollary is that the powerful should be unimpeded in the exercise of their power. In this understanding, existing social hierarchy is not simply desirable but natural, so any contestation of it is not simply mistaken but pathological. It is no coincidence that Williamson contrasts a supposed “male” view on self-improvement, which accepts that the world is “immutable” beyond the individual, in contrast to a “female” view that advocates changing the structures of society and “is just fundamentally patronizing.”

To return Peterson’s bad faith charge with interest, appeals to this putative essential human nature afford the comforting myth afforded by bad faith of facticity. The allure of evolutionary psychology and biological determinism is that I need not, in Sartre’s sense, assume my freedom: I am simply acting out of inexorable biological impulses, the most vital of which is to dominate.

For all the hot air spent insisting on the need to cultivate the hypermasculine self, through an attitude of buccaneering individualism and refusal of convention and conformism, these claims amount to meek compliance, comforting illusions, excuses and alibis about an inescapable essence. In shirking freedom in this way, contemplation, reflection, and solidarity that challenge the status quo are all foreclosed.

Bad Faith’s False Promise

Sartre tells us, however, that bad faith ultimately never works. You cannot really lie to yourself without being aware of the lie. For all Tate’s ranting and snarling self-aggrandizement, he oozes a deep-seated sense of childlike inadequacy and insecurity. Whether in fact rooted in his childhood or an equivalent source of stunted emotional development, we can recognize Tate word for word in Catholic philosopher Herbert McCabe’s description of emotional fragility:

What happens to the child who has lost faith in her parents’ love? The first thing is fear — a fear that she does not matter, that she has no value or importance. [. . .] The child who is deprived of love is characteristically defensive. She is terrified of admitting any inadequacy or guilt — I mean terrified of admitting it even to herself. She becomes gradually self-righteous, convinced of her rightness, with a conviction that conceals, and is meant to conceal, a deep anxiety. She is not able simply to accept herself, warts and all, as valuable because someone loves her. So she has to create a self-image for herself, a self-flattering image. She will have to protect her importance by having power over others. She will be terrified of being at the mercy of others, vulnerable to them. She will guard her self-image with possessions which make her independent of others. She will at all costs protect what she calls her “freedom,” meaning her isolation from others and the demands they might make on her. She will see the world as a place fundamentally of competition and struggle in which she has to win, rather than of friendship and cooperation.

Judging from his recent remarks, Peterson, against his own deterministic psychology, seems to see in Tate a kind of independent self-creating maverick — and thereby admirable to that extent. Tate himself incessantly insists on self-creation against weakness in general and conformist thought in particular. His mantras about the discipline of working out and lifting weights function as a shorthand for this broader ethos.

Likewise, Goggins and fellow former Navy SEAL and Joe Rogan regular guest Jocko Willink emphasize self-realization and the achievement of freedom through self-discipline and application. One Willink  video juxtaposes his motivation spiel voiced over assorted gym rats in action, insisting that by “grinding out . . . then you will find your freedom” (embarrassingly laboring the point, Willink has a big sign in his personal gym reading “freedom”).

Self-discipline and working out are certainly not bad things per se. But their elevation as a generalizable solution for social malaise is absurd. It is also bad faith. It disarms before the facticity of a socially imposed image of how men are supposed to be. As historian Jürgen Martschukat also shows , the imperative to be fit is fully in keeping with neoliberal logics of self-responsibility, resilience, performance, and market competition. Rather than heroic transcendence and unbounded self-creation, the fitness grift encourages us to follow blindly a pre-given script for “success,” defined as being pliable to the demands of productivity.

Tate has recently expanded his conversational repertoire, from proud misogyny and get-rich-quick schemes to his conversion to Islam. Judging by a recent interview in which he claims to be “acting under the instruction of God to do good things,” he has not embraced the religion to draw on intellectual resources for self-reflection, compassion, social justice, or love. Instead, he finds the sanction of bad faith for his conduct. Tate fully subscribes to the Islamophobic reduction of Islam to viciousness and misogyny, but finds that quite appealing.

Part of the draw of Goggins, Willink, Tate, et al. is their self-marketing as motivation gurus, pointing to their warrior ethos as a guide for making something of yourself. This taps into contemporary capitalist society’s permeation by both meaninglessness and the message of glaring personal inadequacy. Much as these figures emphasize their self-made success and hold themselves up as exemplars on that basis, it would be more plausible to say that they go about their own unmaking.

Goggins, for instance, in his peremptory extolling of suffering, and running and lifting weights incessantly, seems nothing so much as ensnared by the compulsion of the death drive. Tate, meanwhile, more fundamentally diminishes his own humanity in his reveling in violence and the abuse of women. To borrow McCabe’s conceptualization, in contrast to Tate’s tiresome insistence that he is leading an exemplary life, he is in fact making of it a “prolonged suicide.”

The later Sartre adapted his conception of freedom as pure transcendence by factoring in ever more the concrete conditions that impinge on it. Today these have only become an even greater challenge than when Sartre was writing, given creeping social atomization and diminishing material prospects and outlets for satisfying work, particularly for young people. In that sense, the fact that the lifestyle advice that Tate, Rogan, Peterson, and Willink offer is implausible is not in itself surprising.

It has not escaped our attention on the Left that grappling with the fallout of capitalist realism is an uphill task. As Fredric Jameson remarked some years ago: “Crime, war, degraded mass culture, drugs, violence, boredom, the lust for power, the lust for distraction, the lust for nirvana, sexism, racism — all can be diagnosed as so many results of a society unable to accommodate the productiveness of all its citizens.” In 2023, we could add another item to the list: a figure like Tate being one of the most Googled people in the world.

The Good Life

Between Tate’s outright viciousness and Rogan’s more ambiguous conclusions, an important common denominator of these purveyors of bad faith is their explicit interest in the classic philosophical question: What is the good life?

That figures like these are worth thinking about at all derives from their appeal to this inquiry. Antonio Gramsci taught us that “common sense” can be leveraged into “good sense,” but that requires starting from where people are rather than where you would want them to be already. The Left might, then, profitably latch on to this starting premise of a widely felt need to question what a meaningful and flourishing life entails and how one might aspire to it.

In doing so, it needs to stress that if the contemporary social order generates pain, suffering, humiliation, and a thwarting of productive energies and capacities, the solution will not lie in trying simply to harness your supposed innate aggression, elbowing your way to a better position within the existing hierarchy. Sartre is part of the long tradition in philosophy that makes the vital case for the happiness of one being dependent on that of all. As Terry Eagleton puts it , “In damaging others, we are in the long run damaging our own fulfilment, which depends on the freedom of others to have a hand in it.”

This long-standing axiom is all the more important today. Amidst galloping inequality, entrenched precarity, collapsing social mobility, and ecological breakdown, even the most self-involved have an interest in a society based on cooperation rather than ruthless competition.

Jeremy Gilbert and Alex Williams forcefully argue in their recent book Hegemony Now that the wholly understandable desire to live a fulfilling life cannot be decoupled from the enhanced ability of the vast majority of society to do the same. This has the additional optimistic implication that we don’t need to restrict our bloc to those who show unusual moral upstandingness — but rather, can appeal precisely to their own interests.

Improbable though it is, instead of their pursuit of their conception of the good life, obsession with failure, warrior-capitalist boosterism, and bemoaning of a weak and effeminate society, the manosphere’s most prolific spokesmen would do better to pay attention to figures like McCabe and French writer Édouard Louis .

McCabe, too, identifies the mutual implication of aggression, war, and capitalism, but rejects its naturalization and draws very different conclusions from it: “What is wrong with capitalism is simply that it is based on human antagonism. . . . Capitalism is a state of war, but not just a state of war between equivalent forces; it involves a war between those who believe in and prosecute war as a way of life, as an economy, and those who do not.”

For his part, Louis, himself brutalized as an adolescent, is an impressive advocate of the popular classes and marginalized. He draws on the tradition of Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Frantz Fanon, and James Baldwin to point to the dead end of bad faith adaptation to dominant social norms, including a supposedly natural aggressive masculinity:

Our history, our personal histories, are full of norms and standards that we fail to fulfil. So, maybe talking about failure is a way of challenging these fictions that we create: the fiction of masculinity, the fiction of femininity, of what is a real man, a real woman . . . of what is a good life. These fictions continue to shape our existence, even if they have nothing to do with our lives, or at least even if nobody can completely fit into them. Maybe talking about failure is a way of presenting things as they really are, as we experience them in spite of all the ideologies, illusions and expectations.

Ultimately, McCabe and Louis offer much more “realistic” conceptions not only of how the world functions, but also of the possibility of inventing a better one. One in which to live a flourishing, meaningful life is generalized in a sustained collective and democratic project of socialism, and in which aggression and war as a way of life are rightly understood as detrimental even to its ardent champions. One in which, as Sartre insisted, no one is free unless everyone is free.

Andrew Tate has shared a video purporting to show his escapades on the first night following his release from house arrest in Romania last week.

The controversial influencer and kickboxer, 36, along with his brother Tristan, 35, on Friday  won an appeal to leave their home after spending months under house arrest amid an investigation into sex trafficking claims.

The one-and-a-half-minute-long clip showed the brothers dining at a lavish open-air restaurant with a group of men, toasting to one another's freedom before pulling away in a purple McLaren and silver Porsche.

The McLaren was seen being delivered to Tate's compound on the outskirts of Bucharest last week shortly after his release from house arrest, when he told reporters outside his home that he would be 'absolutely exonerated' over rape and human trafficking charges.

Police sources estimated that Tate's car collection was worth around a total of £6million when they seized the vehicles earlier this year. At the time, Romanian officials were pictured towing several cars away including a Rolls Royce, a Porsche, a Ferrari, a Lamborghini and an Aston Martin.

Tate, who was arrested on December 29 in Bucharest and has denied all the allegations against him, had previously lost a series of appeals against his house arrest.

Following their release from house arrest, Tate, his brother Tristan and two Romanian women are now under judicial control, a lighter restrictive measure.

A judge has 60 days to review evidence in the case files before it goes to trial, which itself could take several years.

Speaking after Friday's verdict, Tate said: 'Everybody who was pushing these lies and reporting things on repeat without any substantial evidence are going to have to analyse within themselves why they decide to try and destroy people's lives purely for views.

The self-professed misogynist continued: 'I've done nothing wrong, God knows I've done nothing wrong, in my heart I know I've done nothing wrong. I think the people at home with a functioning brain understand we've done nothing wrong.'

Prosecutors alleged last month that as many as seven female victims had been brought to Romania where they were intimidated, surveilled and forced to take part in pornography. One defendant raped an alleged victim twice in March last year according to a statement by Romanian prosecutors.

Victims are afforded automatic anonymity as alleged victims of sexual violence. One British woman, referred to as Sophie to protect her identity, claimed Andrew slapped and strangled her to the point of passing out 'during rough sex'.

A spokesman for Andrew and Tristan Tate said Friday: 'The authorities are yet to decide on the frequency of the control checks with the Romanian police.

'We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Romanian judicial system for their fair consideration. This positive outcome gives us confidence that more favourable developments are on the horizon and the truth is beginning to prevail.

'We also want to thank all the supporters who have shown great resilience and patience during this time.'

Earlier last week the brothers were appealing against a court decision made last month to keep them under house arrest for a further 30 days.

Their appearance at the Court of Appeal in Bucharest came after the influencer was formally charged with rape, human trafficking and forming a criminal gang to exploit women in June. Tristan and two Romanian women were charged with human trafficking.

The four will not be able to leave Romania or travel to some parts of the country but can leave home and travel within Bucharest and Ilfov.

Upon his release Tate, 36, tweeted: 'After 10 months. 3 in jail, 7 at home. After 15million euro of asset seizures. After an inditement based on nothing.

'The file was passed to a Judge who has ruled it weak and circumstantial. I have been released from house arrest but must remain within Romania. Now. To the Mosque. Alhamdulillah.'

The Bucharest Court of Appeals said in a written ruling that it 'replaces the house arrest measure with that of judicial control for a period of 60 days from August 4 until October 2.'

After spending three months in police detention in Bucharest, the Tate brothers won an appeal on March 31 to be moved to house arrest. They are now able to move freely within parts of the country.

The brothers are banned from contacting the two Romanian associates who are also charged with trafficking as well as witnesses, alleged victims and their families. Breaking these rules could lead to further house arrest or detention.

In June, Romania's anti-organised crime agency known as DIICOT had requested that judges extend the house arrest measure after it filed its investigation.

Tate, who has been accused of peddling conspiracy theories online and has amassed 7.2million Twitter followers, has repeatedly claimed that prosecutors have no evidence against him and that there is a political plot designed to silence him.

DIICOT alleges that Tate, his brother Tristan and two Romanian women - Luana Radu and Georgiana Naghel - formed a criminal group in 2021 'in order to commit the crime of human trafficking' in Romania, as well as in the United States and Britain.

There are seven female victims in the case, DIICOT said, who were lured with false pretences of love and transported to Romania, where the gang sexually exploited them and subjected them to physical violence.

One defendant is accused of raping a woman twice in March 2022, according to the agency. The women were allegedly controlled by 'intimidation, constant surveillance' and claims they were in debt, prosecutors said.

Last week, it was reported that leaked messages have demonstrated how Tate coerced women into doing sex work for him.

When the influencer was arrested in Romania in December, authorities accused him of using the 'loverboy' method to lure women to his compound in Bucharest under the guise of having a relationship, before forcing them to do sex work.

According to Rolling Stone, citing screenshots of purported messages from the 'War Room' (Tate's group chat with his followers) and other texts in 2021, the influencer described women as 'targets' and 'assets' and spoke of isolating and manipulating them.

In one purported message, he described how he isolated one woman until she 'lost her support networks at home' and kept her at the compound in Bucharest.

'The real goal is for her to agree to never go anywhere without me. Not even her home town. I need her working,' he wrote, according to screenshots.

Tate also appeared to seek help from his associates to force one woman to post explicit content on OnlyFans, an internet content subscription platform used mostly by sex workers.

In the message, Tate tells followers he'll be 'making the play tonight'.

'Since she moved [to Bucharest] she's been fed. But nothing else,' he wrote.

'She's broke. And she can't go home. And she can't leave the house. Man, I sound almost evil,' he added according to the leaked messages.

A spokesman for the influencer told MailOnline that 'a significant portion of retweets and shares of these screenshots across social media platforms originate from recently created and unverified accounts' and suggested they could have been generated by artificial intelligence (AI) platforms.

'The rise of AI and social media as a news source has opened up the opportunity to anonymously present potentially fabricated, or manipulated evidence, while bypassing the burden of responsibility and avoiding consequences,' they said.

'These realities raise concerns about the potential for a deliberate and targeted effort to sway public opinion and undermine the credibility of the evidence presented.'

On screenshots of messages purported to be between Tate and one of the victims, the spokesman said she 'has publicly and categorically refuted any mistreatment from the brothers.'

However, despite her pleas, the prosecution remains reluctant to remove her name from the alleged victim list.

'While all statements from the alleged victims, incriminating the brothers, have been unquestioningly accepted by the public, the evidence supporting the brothers' innocence has not been given the same fair treatment,' they added.

Tate was previously banned from various prominent social media platforms for expressing hate speech and misogynistic comments, including that women should 'bear responsibility' for getting sexually assaulted.

Leading domestic abuse charities have warned such content is extremely misogynistic and has the potential to radicalise men and young boys.

FULL YACHT CHARTER REVIEW

Inspected by us..

FREEDOM yacht charter was built in 2019 and since then, she has made countless guests fondly remember the time they spent on this wonderful yacht and the unique atmosphere of the Croatian Adriatic sea.

Her first refit came just in time for her to be ready for the 2022 summer season, with numerous amenities added to her already avid collection of yacht facilities, including an onboard spa centre, a yacht cinema, which doubles as a game room for kids and a fully equipped yacht gym.

The dining room located on the upper deck has enough room to accommodate all guests in a well-appointed and air-conditioned interior. The architecture of the superstructure allows for wide and full-sized windows, which will surely elevate the atmosphere during meals in the upper deck salon, regardless of it being day or night.

Because she was built specifically for cruising in the Croatian Adriatic sea, you will have no problems at all relaxing on her decks, enjoying her amenities or sleeping tight in her wonderfully appointed cabins, because of her sturdiness and stability, both at anchor and underway.

She can take on a maximum of 23 guests, accommodating them in 11 cabins, scattered across three decks of this glorious yacht charter.

There will be a total of 11 crew members that will take care of your every wish and desire, as long as you are on holiday on FREEDOM yacht charter. Since the crew-to-guest ratio is 1:2, expect a more detailed and finer service, reflected in the hospitality experience you will definitely enjoy.

Each cabin on FREEDOM yacht charter is modernly furnished and designed following contemporary interior yacht styles. There are twin and double cabins to choose from and every accommodation has an ensuite, as well as an AC unit, a wardrobe with a safe, a desk with a chair and a big LCD TV.

There is also an intercom for the crew’s and the captain’s announcements. All the cabins are also sound-proof, guaranteeing a good night’s sleep to every guest, regardless of the position of their cabin, in relation to other cabins or guests aboard.

The cruising speed of FREEDOM yacht charter is a comfortable 9 knots, with a maximum speed of about 11 knots. This means that the guests will have plenty of time to enjoy the slow and steady changes that will happen with the peripheral panorama.

Passing between lush green islands and entering stretches of nothing but crystal-clear sea, FREEDOM will offer a comfortable cruise to her charter guests.

A DAY ON THE YACHT

Feel the comfortable warmth of the summer sun in Croatia as you board FREEDOM yacht charter and begin your yachting holiday adventure. Considering all the things you can do around and with the help of FREEDOM, you will not be bored a single second – watersports , entertainment, trips to the shore , coast exploration… take your pick!

Your dedicated yacht crew will be there at every step of your journey, making sure you have everything you need for a perfect charter experience. Once you finish with the complimentary champagne, pick a cabin that will be your home for the next several days and start enjoying yourself.

Let your crew take you on a short tour of FREEDOM, so you could familiarize yourself with all the amenities you will have a chance to spend time on during your cruise holiday. Following the itinerary, FREEDOM may cruise towards a particularly beautiful stretch of the Croatian coastline or pick a more secluded island, out of reach of regular tourists.

This will give you an opportunity to get more closely acquainted with all the beauties that Croatian Adriatic nature has to offer. Enjoy the warm embrace of the crystal-clear sea and the incredible diversity of underwater flora and fauna.

Stroll along magnificent beaches, both completely private and incredibly appealing. Swim surrounded only by the lush green vegetation and the shade of turquoise blue tones while listening to the sounds of the waves near you and the crickets in the distance.

Find a tranquil spot to rest under the shade of swaying pine trees, as you soak in all the wonderful things that make up a Croatian summer holiday.

After all these experiences, your soul will be well satisfied, but your body will require nourishment. And that is where the incredibly-talented chefs of FREEDOM yacht charter come into play, because they will prepare mouthwatering lunches and dinners for you to enjoy.

The ingredients will be locally acquired, the seafood freshly caught and the meat sourced from Croatian farms. Add to that the incredible diversity and quality of native Croatian wines, and you got a receipt for complete gastronomical enjoyment.

Sit down for lunch and enjoy dishes like a grilled shrimp risotto with peas, carrots and chilli salsa, freshly caught Adriatic tuna with quinoa and chill side and a caramelized apple with a white chocolate centre for dessert.

After you have sufficiently filled up on delicious dishes, choose to spend some time lounging on the upper deck. Shielded by the shade of the hardtop, enjoy staring in the distance of the incredible Adriatic panorama, while your diligent charter crew serve hand-made cocktails and other refreshing beverages.

There are still plenty of things to do as you digest the terrific lunch, like soaking in the jacuzzi, taking in all the different sensations that make up the incredible Croatian Adriatic, with its many islands, the shimmering turquoise sea and the lush greenery of the coastline.

This atmosphere will certainly accentuate all the different experiences that FREEDOM yacht charter offers, primarily taking advantage of the jacuzzi. Surrounded by all this heavenly bliss, you will feel transported into a dimension of pure enjoyment.

As you relax in the warm embrace of the hot tub and share this special moment with other close members of your charter party, be sure that a member of your charter crew will always be at your disposal, serving snacks and beverages, to make the jacuzzi experience even more memorable.

As the sun begins to set and becomes dimly visible in the night sky, prepare to savour a luxury treat. A fully functional yacht cinema will be at your disposal, during the entirety of your Croatian charter vacation on FREEDOM yacht charter.

With a rich library of movies, both from Hollywood and from abroad, you will get to pick the perfect title to fit this unique venue.

If you are feeling more exploratory, why not watch a local Croatian movie or a documentary about the Croatian Adriatic sea? There will also be plenty of popular series to choose from, ranging from hot Netflix titles to more widely recognized Hollywood movies.

In the meantime, your expert crew will prepare handmade popcorn and other tasty treats, as well as refreshing beverages to go with your movie-watching night.

Choose to stay active during your yacht vacation in Croatia and take full advantage of the modern yacht gym equipment aboard FREEDOM yacht charter. Work on your fitness by yourself or with members of your charter party, because it is always more fun to work out in a group.

You could also opt for hiring a fully-certified fitness trainer, who will upgrade your training with professional guidance and advice. Share your goals with your coach and fulfil one of your goals regarding physique during your Croatian summer holiday.

Combine training sessions with the onboard spa centre on FREEDOM yacht charter and let wellness and fitness create an atmosphere of well-being and activity on your holiday. After you are done with the gym, pamper your senses with massages, skin treatments, manicures, pedicures or facials.

Finally, take a swim in the refreshing Adriatic sea and let the healing and rejuvenating properties of the healthy and clean salt water work wonders on your overall health and strength, both of body and mind.

After all these activities, you will surely feel depleted of energy and ready for dinner; seeing that lunch was such a huge success, except the dinner on FREEDOM yacht charter to be nothing short of miraculously tasty and mouthwateringly-good.

Delight in dishes like linguini with rice, served with a parmesan, nutmeg and peanut sauce or a surf`n`turf menu featuring grilled lobster tails with butter and truffle-seasoned steak. For dessert, savour a ricotta crème with coconut shavings and dark chocolate buttons.

After enjoying tasty dishes, prepare for the evening`s entertainment, which could range from live Croatian bands playing on the upper deck to a night on the town, if FREEDOM berths in a lively Croatian seaside settlement. It all depends on the arrangements between you, your charter party, your yacht crew and the captain.

There are also no rules about staying on board and just enjoying the visual sensations that the evening sky in Croatia presents. Because the levels of light pollution are so low, you will have no problem distinguishing stars with your naked eye, and if you are lucky, you will get to witness a spectacular sight.

Each year, around August, the Croatian sky becomes illuminated by the passing of the Perseids, a yearly meteor shower, with nearly 80 falling stars visible each hour. Take this opportunity and sky gaze, surrounded by the luxury of FREEDOM yacht charter.

YACHT CHARTER DINING

After you set foot on FREEDOM yacht charter, you will be able to experience first-hand the quality of food being prepared in the galley of this fantastic yacht. The expert team of chefs and sous chefs will constantly work to improve the menu, while serving fresh and locally sourced food.

The type of service on FREEDOM yacht charter is buffet-orientated for breakfast and a family-style service for lunch and dinner. This means that guests can stay close together and enjoy each other`s company while they eat, at the same time letting the crew spend less time delivering food and instead focusing more on the hospitality part of their service

For breakfast, you can expect a wide variety of locally-sourced fruits and vegetables, as well as freshly-made juices. There will also be plenty of sweet and savoury breakfast pastry to choose from, alongside eggs done in several different ways (or made to order).

For lunch, guests can expect dishes similar to fast-fried veal tenderloin with spring greens and a sun-dried tomato salad, poached salmon with brown rice and steam-cooked broccoli or grilled Adriatic sea bass, seasoned with fennel, thyme and sweet peppers. For dessert, a sweet and sour lemon tart with a honey glaze.

Dinner dishes could look like an octopus cooked „under the bell“, with potatoes, peppers and paprika, meatballs over home-made pasta, seasoned with locally made tomato sauce, salt-based and smoked salmon, served over a side of carrot, spinach and cauliflower lasagne, and for dessert – a pistachio cream over hand-made banana ice cream.

Lunch and dinner will consist of several courses and a dessert course while you are onboard FREEDOM yacht charter, with an additional option of tasting dishes in exclusive Croatian restaurants, once FREEDOM makes port.

YACHT MAIN DECK

Since FREEDOM was made to cruise in the Croatian Adriatic, this reflects primarily in her exterior profile and structure. Her stability is achieved by her width, which is possible in the Adriatic, since storms and unfriendly weather starts at the end of autumn.

Her paint job also reflects her Adriatic attitude, with a white coating and several streamlined light blue stripes, personifying her friendly relation to the sea. The first partition on the main deck aft is dedicated to the crew mess and logistics of the yacht itself. Forward from this crew area and guests can enter a huge master cabin.

This central cabin is equipped with a tub, a shower cabin and double sinks, as well as plenty of space in the living quarter, which is modernly designed and contemporary furnished.

Forward still from the central master cabin, there are 5 more cabins – 2 twin cabins and 3 double cabins. This arrangement works great for guests who want more versatility in their choice of sleeping arrangement.

YACHT SUNDECK

The jacuzzi on the sundeck is the epitome of yacht luxury – placed on the aft section of the sundeck, it is surrounded on all sides by pillows and sunbathing cushions, creating an island around the jacuzzi, where guests can chit-chat or sunbathe, while also being able to roll over into the jacuzzi at a moment`s notice.

A cool feature of FREEDOM`s jacuzzi is that it is equipped with LED lights, so that evening jacuzzi sessions become even more coveted during the evenings, when the first light of the stars begins to show itself on the clear Croatian night sky.

Because Croatian has a low level of light pollution, the best place to watch the stars would be in the LED-lighted jacuzzi, where you can feel truly become one with the universe.

On the bow of the sundeck, FREEDOM yacht charter offers what so many other yachts only dream of enabling their guests to experience. An incredibly spacious pool, with an infinity window looking outward and towards the direction of FREEDOM`˙s cruising path.

Since there are two incredible water-based venues on the sundeck alone, guests who are experiencing FREEDOM the first time will be in absolute awe when the long list of her amenities is finally presented.

The forward pool is also equipped with LED lights, to shine bright in the evening and to be a constant reminder of how exclusive and luxurious a stay on FREEDOM yacht charter is.

The sundeck is also equipped with movable sun loungers in front of the pool, so guests have more versatility when it comes to enjoying all the benefits of the warm summer sun and the refreshing turquoise waters of the Croatian Adriatic.

Under the sundeck hardtop, a lounge arrangement provides rest and relaxation in the cover of the shade, for guests wanting to spend their siesta in an area protected from the sun.

Last but not least, the interior yacht gym on the sundeck is the place where guests who want to stay active on their charter holiday spend some of their time. It can put to shame any home gym, with an added bonus of incredible views to go with your workout.

A treadmill, a step machine and a stationary bike are the biggest pieces of equipment available, but you can also do a lot with a punching bag, a yoga ball and a full set of weights. A mirror enables you to follow every muscle movement precisely, while a widescreen LED TV provides entertainment for those last minutes of a workout.

The gym is more than spacious enough to handle several guests at once, or a guest training with a professional fitness or yoga instructor.

YACHT LOWER DECK

Besides housing cabin accommodations, the lower deck on FREEDOM yacht charter is also home to some incredible yacht amenities, like the sauna, the massage room and the yacht cinema.

The sauna follows the same pattern of modern design, with the entire room arranged in a natural way; the interior of the sauna supports two benches, while the wood is bright and light, accentuated by the LED lights integrated into the ceiling. Outside the glass door, a small lay-back sofa offers a chance to literally catch your breath after exiting the sauna.

One of the most favourite ways of snapping out of the sauna`s warm embrace is jumping straight into the cool Croatian Adriatic sea, for instant refreshment, while the healing properties of the salty water do wonders for the cleansing of pores opened by the effects of the sauna.

For the guests who do not wish to seek refreshment in the sea, a shower cabin will provide a similar effect. The nearby dedicated massage room follows the design pattern present in the sauna: beige walls with brown details and furniture, but with a green wall integrated into the background, alongside a double mirror feature.

The inviting and homey atmosphere of the massage room will make you relax even before you lay down on the table. Let your charter crew arrange a professional masseuse, who will massage every ounce of stress from your body, enabling you to harmonize with your soul.

The yacht cinema is something else entirely. This amenity is usually only reserved for mega yachts spanning 80 meters+, but FREEDOM yacht charter manages to incorporate this truly unique space with smart engineering and ingenious naval architecture.

The cinema room brings together an extra-wide LCD TV, which serves as a gaming station for the PlayStation console, while on the other side of the room, double rows of leather-upholstered sofas give incredible comfort when watching your favourite movies.

The movie room can be synced to show any kind of audio-visual content, so you can also look forward to watching your favourite Netflix series as well.

The aesthetic of the cinema room is subtle, with dimmed LED lights illuminating the room just enough so guests can distinguish between a batch of freshly hand-made popcorn and refreshing beverages brought in by your loving charter crew.

YACHT CHARTER ACCOMMODATION: TWIN CABIN

When it comes to accommodations aboard FREEDOM yacht charter, there is a need to talk about colours, first and foremost. White dominates every aspect of the twin cabins, but this is not done in a flimsy way.

Instead, white is subtly combined with an incredible array of white tones, incorporating different tones of grey, creme, snow-white, eggshell white, as well as white marble details, grey wooden wall panels and lots of reflective surfaces.

This makes the cabins stand out, even more, when they are hit by the natural light coming in from the incredibly spacious and wide windows or portholes. The modern atmosphere is achieved by designer furniture and smart usage of straight and curved lines in the construction of the cabin.

The ensuites translate the same luxurious commodities found in the cabins – plenty of space, light and a contemporary atmosphere.

YACHT CHARTER ACCOMMODATION: DOUBLE CABIN

Space in the double cabins is dominated by the wide and comfortable queen-sized berth, with a headspace decorated by white marble details. Two nightstands on either side of the berth have sophisticated night lights, that combine mirrors in their design, alongside more traditional means of illumination.

The atmosphere of the entire cabin is bright and light, thanks to white being the dominant colour – subtle gray details only accentuate the brightness of the white, while daylight coming in through wide windows is spread around the cabin thanks to the prevalence of white.

Besides the visual impression, all the materials used in decoration and design of the double cabins are rare, expensive and luxurious, making the guest`s stay in the cabins as comfortable and inviting as possible.

Other types of furniture include a full-length and angled sofa, where guests can take a short nap or just relax during the day. There are lots of storage space, as well as a desk and a chair, for answering e-mails or doing some unexpected work.

YACHT BEACH CLUB & SWIMMING PLATFORM

The beach club and swimming platform on FREEDOM yacht charter will surprise with its versatility, able to provide numerous hours of fun several feet from the water`s edge. When guests decide to take a relaxing and refreshing swim in the Croatian Adriatic sea, they can jump or slowly enter the water, thanks to steel swimming ladders.

Afterwards, three outdoor freshwater showers will provide the opportunity to rinse the salt off, without having to go all the way to your cabin and back.

Enjoy the visual impressions of the sea, as the turquoise blue meets the golden shimmer of reflected sunlight and take in the atmosphere of your Croatian yacht holiday. Better still, have your charter crew serve champagne and snacks, to elevate the visual experience even further.

There is an option of installing a water slide close to the swimming platform, which will transform this space into one of enjoyment for the youngest passengers. Parents will get to take a break from keeping an eye out for their kids, as the children relentlessly enjoy the slide, under supervision from one of the members of your diligent charter crew.

YACHT WATER TOYS & WATER SPORTS

FREEDOM yacht charter offers much to guests in search of thrill and fun on the water. Let your professional crew instruct you on how to use all the different water toys, starting with the jet ski.

The jet ski is ideal for guests looking for an adrenaline-filled ride, flying over the waves in a swift and secure manner. More experienced riders will certainly want to try jumping over the rough seas, while more relaxed guests will tend to use the jet ski as a means of scouting potential spots of interest on the nearby coastline.

Using the Seabob, guests will feel like dolphins, emerging and submerging beneath the edge of the water and exploring the beauties and secrets of the seafloor. Discover interesting specimens of fish and crab, but also sea cucumbers, corals and sea urchins.

This will all be possible because the Croatian Adriatic sea is one of the cleanest bodies of water in the world, where aquatic life still thrives in healthy and clean conditions. Kayaks will provide guests with several interesting options – they could be used for staying fit on your charter vacation, since paddling across longer distances really puts a strain on your muscles.

On the other hand, a kayak is an excellent tool for finding a private beach and staying there, because disembarkment and stowage of kayaks is so easy, particularly on the hospitable Croatian coastline.

Your charter crew will also be available to arrange donut, wakeboard or water skiing rides, for you and members of your charter party. This option is only available upon request, so make sure you talk to your crew beforehand.
