Below Deck guest Charles Sanders is worth millions as a successful lawyer

Below Deck guest Charles Sanders is worth millions as a successful lawyer

Charles Sanders joined the long list of primary charter guests on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, alongside his reality TV star-turned-attorney wife Erica Rose . Despite having a large net worth, they left the lowest tip in the show’s history.

Providing a five-star service was the Bravo yacht crew during the March 14th episode. This included chef Marcos Spaziani cooking up a meal to match their requirements, shortly after injuring himself.

Charles complained to the staff and claimed the food was “disgusting.” After leaving a $6,500 tip, viewers were left wondering what he does for a living, and how much he really has in the bank.

  • BARGAIN HUNT : Has Charles Hanson had his teeth fixed?

Who is Charles Sanders?

Charles “Chuck” Sanders is a personal injury attorney, who recently appeared as a primary charter guest on Below Deck Sailing Yacht . He brought his wife and Bachelor alum Erica Rose, and their family and friends.

He revealed that he thought “McDonald’s is better than this” when it came to the food. Charles told captain Glenn Shephard: “You don’t put sweet sauce on a steak. I’m losing money by sitting here and looking at this disgusting food.”

His wife Erica Rose has responded to backlash following the episode. She told Monsters and Critics :

He said he was acting. He was a theater major in college and he was just having fun. It was not scripted, and no one handed him a script. No one told him to do or say anything. He felt like it was his job, even though we aren’t paid to be there. But in the moment, he felt like it was his job to be as entertaining and over-the-top.

The son of a surgeon was often seen as the “black sheep” of his family, according to his company website . While the rest of his family (including his father-in-law) went into medicine, Charles took a different route for his career.

My reaction to Erica coming back on 😂 it’s not shown but I was actually crying after I found out they were coming on I wasn’t mentally prepared and overwhelmed #BelowDecksailing — Daisy Kelliher (@daisykelliher87) March 8, 2022

His job and net worth

Rose Sanders Law Firm, run by Charles and Erica, is a Texas-based personal injury firm with offices in Houston and McAllen, both in Texas. As a result of their successful business, the charter guest is worth $2 million.

As the firm’s co-founder and partner, Charles first launched his career in the industry as an insurance adjuster and claims counsel for numerous insurance companies. He is now a bodily injury insurance adjuster in over 26 US states.

He has worked as an adjuster and claims counsel for companies such as Geico, State Farm, Allstate, and other third-party administrators. Before his legal career, Charles got a Bachelor of Arts in Theater from Texas A&M University.

The charter guest also achieved his Paralegal Certification from Rice University, and is also now licensed to practice law in the U.S. Southern District of Texas.

Since Glenn saved $ on the couch clean up, he should bill them $20,000 for labor and split the $ with the crew. #belowdecksailing — Lisa Embrey (@lisa_embrey) March 15, 2022

Below Deck Sailing Yacht: Erica’s Husband Charles Gives Crying Apology

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Erica Rose's Husband Charles Gives Tearful Apology For Season 3 Charter Guest Behavior

C harter guest Charles Sanders has apologized for his “disgusting” behavior on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3. Charles recorded a two-hour Instagram live on his wife Erica Rose’s account to let her fans know he is sorry.

While on season 3 of BDSY , Charles never stopped complaining the moment he got aboard sailing yacht Parsifal III . Fans roasted Charles for trashing Chef Marcos Spaziani’s culinary skills and for his charter group only leaving a $6,500 tip. He also gave Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher’s interior team a lot of grief with his rude and belligerant behavior. Fans across the social media universe attacked Charles and Erica Rose over the past two weeks they were on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3.

Charles Cries On Erica Rose’s Instagram In Tearful Apology For Below Deck Behavior

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Charter Guests Erica Rose and Husband Charles Sanders

“The way I acted on the show was despicable and disgusting. And who I hurt the most was my wife,” Charles Sanders said early Saturday morning at 3 a.m. to Erica Rose’s 42,000 Instagram fans. Shortly after starting the apology, Charles begins crying near the start of the nearly two-hour post (now deleted after being up a couple days). Charles also said that he believed he didn’t care what people think of him and his family. But after getting “16,000 hate messages”, the lawyer admitted he truly does care what people think.

“I’m a fun-loving guy… Most of the time everyone’s liked me my entire life. Until this show,” he continued.

Near the beginning of the video, Charles talked about how he was in the doghouse with his wife.

“Erica’s mad at me all the time, I can’t handle it.” Charles also explained how longtime fans were messaging his wife upset with her.

“Fans of 15 years are reaching out to tell Erica Rose how upset they are.”

“She misses you guys. I can’t handle it. I don’t like the fact that I did this to her.”

“There isn’t anyone out there who can’t say that [Erica Rose] did not act professional and acted like a bitch on that show,” he added later in the video.

Charles revealed that his mom and sister are also “pissed off” with his Below Deck behavior.

Charles Says He doesn’t Owe The Below Deck Sailing Yacht Crew An Apology

Erica Rose's Husband Charles Sanders On Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3

Although he gave an apology to his wife because she was angry with him, Charles didn’t give the BDSY season 3 crew an apology, too.

Midway through the video, Charles said he didn’t owe the Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 crew an apology.

“They didn’t show all the fun times I had with the crew,” he said. He also said he may give the crew an apology if fans reacted positively to his Instagram live video, but that he didn’t think he was mean to any of the cast.

He then doubled down on criticizing Chef Marcos cooking, saying he was “inconsistent” and that he had high expectations. When discussing his disappointment in the food, Charles called Chef Marcos “Marcus” and a “cook”.

He also said his insults against the chef’s food were him playing up his acting. He said he borrowed a line from Rodney Dangerfield when he said, “I’ve had better food at the ballpark.”

“The food was good the first night, that’s why I was kind of shocked about the omelet,” Charles said in the video, referring to an omelet he sent back twice. However, the day after complimenting Chef Marcos for the steak dinner, he retracted and said it was terrible.

“If I knew he had a gashing wound out of his cranium of course I would’ve [acted differently].”

Another fan asked what he would’ve said differently to the crew and Charles sort of apologized at that point.

“Thanks for providing such a great trip and I’m sorry for being so unappreciative,” Charles said he would say at the end of the trip if had do-over.

Throughout the Instagram video, Charles repeatedly licks his lip and looks sleep deprived because he hadn’t slept in days.

“And by the way everybody, I talk fast 24 hours a day. I freaking hate cocaine. …I don’t appreciate that, calling me a known coke head all over Texas. Anyone that knows me knows he doesn’t do coke,” Charles said to commenters claiming he uses cocaine.

Erica Rose Is Grateful Her Husband Gave An Apology Without Her Knowledge

Erica Rose posted Instagram stories over the weekend explaining how stressed out she had been the past few days. She also claimed she didn’t know Charles was going to use her Instagram to post an apology late at night.

She also showed off her new nails and invited anyone in the Houston area to go with her next time because it’s boring on her own.

Despite apologizing, Charles said his wife should’ve told him to stop with his complaining act.

“She should’ve said, ‘Chuck, shut up.’ And I would’ve shut up. Trust me.”

Charles also partially excused his behavior as him acting while on the show.

“I got into a complaining character.”

Charles also gave some background on his whirlwind romance with Erica Rose. They dated only a few months before the two got engaged. He said Erica saved him from his “floundering” in Florida with his ex wife who didn’t support him. Since getting together, the two both passed the bar and became lawyers. Now they have a law firm together, Rose Sanders Injury Law , where they practice defamation, injury, media and family law.

Before being on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2 and 3, Erica Rose appeared on The Bachelor , Bachelor Pad , Insider Edition and Dr. Phil . She strives to one day have her own law show like Judge Judy and really loves reality TV.

He also said he felt bad that his wife lost her hairdresser Janelle Flatt who said she would “never” do Erica’s hair again .

Charles also revealed he hasn’t spoken to Janelle’s husband, Rhett Flatt, but that he should give him an apology too. The two almost got into a physical altercation after Charles “disrespected” Janelle.

Charles Blames Other Charter Guests For The $6,500 Tip & Brown Stain On Couch

Charles denied any responsibility for the low tip and fan claims he purposely complained the whole trip so he could skimp out on the tip.

“I tried my best, that’s all I could do. I didn’t know other people weren’t going to tip,” Charles said.

Charles added that he paid everything he could for the tip and had no idea it was substandard when leaving the yacht. He said everyone was supposed to bring $5,000 to contribute to the tip. Everyone on the charter, including his wife, mother-in-law and himself only paid $6,500 towards the very low tip.

Later in the video Charles said he should maybe apologize for the tip and not “picking up the slack” of the other charter guests bailing on giving a tip.

Charles did concede some regret in not giving up his first class plane seat to his mother-in-law Cindi Rose. Cindi ended up getting kicked off the plane because she snuck up to first class to take Charles’ food she wasn’t offered in coach. He said he doesn’t know who stained the couch brown but would’ve paid the cleaning bill if it were sent to him.

Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher said she actually cried when she found out Erica Rose was returning. She said Erica’s first charter was so emotionally draining in season 2 that she wasn’t mentally prepared for a second charter.

Daisy also shared text messages with Cindi and accused her of “slander” and “lies”, according to Reality Blurb .

“…I had to serve and put a smile on my face to people that I think are complete bullies. They are everything that I hate about social media. …I hate people who use social media as a platform to spread gossip. And they’re everything of what I think represents is awful in the world and awful about social media,” said Daisy on her Pita Party podcast .

“They’re just very, very strange people. I think there’s a lot of substance abuse involved – again, my opinion, I don’t know – but just volatile, strange people,” Daisy later said in her podcast, unsubstantiated.

Check Out (or Follow!) the Cast of 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Season 3 on Instagram

Shannon Raphael - Author

Feb. 28 2022, Published 5:06 p.m. ET

For Bravo fans, it's become tradition to tune in to Below Deck on Monday nights. In February of 2022, Season 3 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht debuted on the network, and the Parsifal III crew members wasted no time with getting the drama started.

While viewers can check out the cast members during the charter season on Mondays, they can also stay updated with their lives outside of the show on social media.

Whether you want to investigate and look for any clues regarding the current statuses of the boatmances, or you simply want to know what the stars have been up to since filming concluded, we've rounded up all of the Instagram accounts for the Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3 cast members.

1. Captain Glenn Shephard (@BigSailboats)

The Parsifal III captain, who has appeared on every season of the Below Deck spin-off, posts on his Instagram with the handle @BigSailboats . His feed is filled with plenty of selfies, and a lot of gorgeous travel shots from the water.

2. Daisy Kelliher (@DaisyKelliher87)

Season 3 marks Daisy's second go-round as the Chief Stew on the sailing vessel, and she'll engage in a bit of a romance with fellow sophomore season star Gary King.

On her Instagram page, Daisy shares photos from the show, and she also posts clips from her Below Deck -themed podcast, Beneath the Surface .

3. Gary King (@King_gk)

The First Mate secured a spot on Season 3 after engaging in one of the most dramatic love triangles to ever exist on a Below Deck show. This time around, Gary's new love situation involves Daisy and Ashley Marti (who work together on the interior team). Gary is active on his @King_gk social media.

4. Colin MacRae (@ParlayRevival_Colin)

When he's not working as a Chief Engineer (or stirring up the drama), Colin chronicles his journey to fix up a hurricane-damaged catamaran on YouTube . His verified channel has more than 200,000 subscribers.

Once you're done perusing Colin's YouTube page, you can take a look at his Instagram feed .

5. Chef Marcos Spaziani (@ChefMarcoSpaziani)

Below Deck fans have seen many intense chefs in the galley over the years, and it remains to be seen if Chef Marcos will be like his peers, or if he'll break the mold.

In addition to his food truck, Chef Marcos is in the process of opening up a restaurant in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles.

You can see more of his food and his culinary skills on Instagram .

6. Ashley Marti (@Ashley.Marti97)

The third stew made quite the impression on the Season 3 premiere when she locked lips with Gary (and shot down Tom Pearson for being too young).

Ashley is originally from New York, but, when she's on land, she's usually working in Florida.

You can follow Ashley on Instagram here.

7. Gabriela Barragan (@_LittleGaby)

With a few more years of yachting experience and 10 extra years of wisdom, Gabriela edged Ashley out for the second stew position. Viewers have yet to find out if this will change the dynamic for the interior team but, based on how Gabriela handled the awkward interaction with a guest at the end of the Season 3 premiere, it seems like Daisy made the right call.

Gabriela's Instagram feed can be found here .

8. Kelsie Goglia (@KelsiesCruisin)

When Kelsie's not working on deck, she's sharing some insight into her travels and her life in San Diego on Instagram . The Season 3 star embarked on a yachting career after a sailing vacation in Croatia.

9. Tom Pearson (@TomPearsonn)

The Brit didn't have the strongest start on the show, as he got a little bit ahead of himself during the crew's first pre-charter night out. After a long, alcohol-fueled night on Parsifal III , Tom ended up getting sick — and he narrowly missed hitting his bunkmate, Captain Glenn, with his vomit.

Tom spent the first night in the crew mess, and he went on an apology tour the next morning. Will he be able to recover from his disastrous first night, or will he say goodbye to the crew early?

The deckhand shares insight into his life outside of the show on his Instagram feed . He also offers a behind-the-scenes look at BDSY on his page.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo. You can also stream the series on Peacock.

Erica and Chuck Rose tip only $6500, 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' fans dub them 'classless'

Google Follow

The charter guests on 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' are a tough crowd to please. Their erratic behavior and crazy demands can rile up even the most experienced hospitality veteran, but the crew members of Parsifal III patiently smile and put up with everything in the hopes of receiving big, fat tip money at the end of the charter to make up for everything. This was precisely the motivation for the crew members when they learned that mother-daughter duo Cindy and Erica Rose would be returning as primary chart guests.

The chief stewardess Daisy Kelliher was taken aback on learning that the Roses were chartering the yacht again, but decided to put her biases aside and encouraged her crew to go above and beyond to impress the guests. Unfortunately, Erica's husband Chuck Rose was unimpressed by the culinary spread on the yacht. He and Cindy kept complaining about how McDonald's food tasted better than what they were being served on their luxury vacation. Despite a head injury, chef Marcos Spaziani whipped up a feast for the guests in the hopes of appeasing them. Sadly, the crew's efforts and hard work didn't yield the expected result, as the Roses left a tip of just $6,500.

When the amount was split among everybody in the crew it came further down to $750 per person. The whole crew was left feeling disappointed with the measly tip they received in exchange for their hospitality and service. Captain Glenn Shephard made it a point to remind his team that they did a phenomenal job and that the tip money wasn't a reflection of their work but rather the reflection of the charter guests' nature.

Fans too agreed with the Captain and took to Twitter to call out the demanding Roses for leaving such a poor tip after not only mistreating the crew members, but also damaging the couch in the yacht. A fan tweeted, "$6,500 is the all-time lowest tip I remember seeing in the #BelowDeck franchise. Low-class no-class guests need to find Nemo the next time they attempt a charter. #belowdecksailing." Another fan wrote, "Erica was so ready to redeem herself (& kinda did) but her hubs & mom clearly didnt get the memo $6500?!! Complete BS. Also pretty sure this is the only charter in BD history to not give a little goodbye/thank you speech, but w that pathetic tip Im not shocked #belowdecksailing." I’m embarrassed But that’s how they probably conduct always conduct themselves! As The Countess sings, “$ can’t buy u class”!" commented a fan.

Here's Where To Follow The New 'Below Deck' Cast Members On Instagram

The cast of Below Deck Sailing Yacht

What’s more opulent that vacationing on a yacht? Adding sails. In Bravo’s new reality show Below Deck Sailing Yacht , a spin-off of the hit series Below Deck , the crew has ditched the motor for wind-powered adventuring among the Greek Isles. Other than that, basically everything is the same. The charter guests have outlandish requests, the sexually charged crew shares itsy-bitsy quarters, and the affable, fatherly captain tries desperately to steady the helm.

Despite the by-now familiar tropes — the hard as nails chief stew, the deckhand bro — the only returning cast member is Adam Glick, the renegade chef who longs to prepare a Greek mezze even though the guests have specifically requested sushi. (Why did they even come to Greece?!) Unused to seeing so many strange faces at sea, we ventured into the stormy waters of Instagram to figure out what we could learn about the newest deckhands and stewards.

Chef Adam Glick aka The Adventure Chef is back below deck. Since he last appeared on Below Deck Med, Glick has been road-tripping America like a real landlubber. He also heavily advertises the collapsible pocket chef’s knives he helped design for the gourmet cook on the go. Look how they fit in the pocket of his incredibly rugged apron.

View on Instagram

Jenna MacGillivray

The Canadian chief stew is no nonsense, warning her steward team during the series premiere that they won't be coddled. Her Instagram shows a softer side.

Captain Glenn Shephard

Shephard has been captaining the Parsifal III for a decade and working yachts in the hot sun since 2000. He recently posted this TBT of “What I looked like before Superyachting had its way with me.”

Ciara Duggan

Duggan was basically raised on a catamaran and has been working boats since she was 17, mostly as a stew. Newly appointed to the deck crew, it’s her first time in the same department as her boyfriend Paget. If Instagram is to be believed, it seems like the couple survived charter season .

Paget Berry

“ Fitness freak ” Paget met his other half when he landed a job working Ciara’s family’s catamaran. Now, the Englishman and his girlfriend live together on the Parsifal III year-round.

Parker McCowan

The Parsifal III is McCowan’s first gig on a luxury yacht. Rather than a grid full of boat porn, McCowan’s account reveals him to be a deckhand with a fishing habit.

Madison Stalker

The Energizer Bunny of the crew has two Instagram accounts: one devoted to her sunny life as a professional stew and the other, @thatblondepirate , dedicated to fashion.

Georgia Grobler

The South African stew is also a singer, with several singles she’s released under the name Georgia Rose.

Byron Hissey

The Parsifal III’s engineer seems like the cast member least likely to attract drama. His grid is a family photo album of vacations, playing with his daughter, and his January wedding.

In all, the Below Deck Sailing Yacht crew are sure to become Bravo faves in no time.

Below deck: 10 things you need to know about erica rose.

The guests on Below Deck always come with a list of demands but Erica Rose and her party tested the limits of the crew. Here's what you need to know:

Erica Rose is no stranger to reality television, especially regarding the Below Deck yacht; as one of the most demanding and lowest tipping guests to board the ship, the crew was not happy to see Erica back in their quarters.

Despite her wild antics on the boat the first time she chartered the yacht, Erica was allowed back for a second trip and caused just as much drama this time around. Fans of the show have begun to wonder who Erica is and how she came into a position to rent a luxury yacht not once but twice.

Her Hometown

Erica Rose is a Texas native and seems to love her hometown as she has yet to move away from Houston and raises her children there with her husband. Even though she enjoys traveling, it is evident from her social media that Erica is in no rush to move away from Texas and most likely never will.

Erica often posts about the political candidates she feels will help improve Houston and Texas. While Erica doesn't have a strong Texan accent, she never denies where she was raised.

Her Education

Erica has spent a lot of time furthering her education. According to the Rose Sanders website , Erica attended Emory College and graduated with a dual major in English and Creative Writing and a minor in Theater. However, Erica did not make a career out of writing or acting and decided to go into law.

After attending The University of Houston Law Center, Erica became a shining example of a young lawyer and received many honors and accolades before running her firm.

Erica is now a mother to her two daughters, Aspen and Holland. The two girls travel with their parents often and have their own Instagram accounts run by their parents. While she has been on tv several times, Erica has yet to have her children appear alongside her.

Beyond her career as a lawyer, it is clear that Erica's top priority is providing for her daughters and ensuring they have a memorable childhood. It appears that Erica tries to keep her daughters away from the negativity she and her husband have been receiving by managing the two toddlers' accounts.

Even though most people know her for her appearances on one of the best reality tv dating shows , Erica Rose has a successful career outside of being in front of the camera. In her day-to-day life, Erica works alongside her husband as a partner at their law firm.

Erica often posts legal advice on her social media accounts and weighs in on ongoing cases such as Amber Heard and Johnny Depp's defamation trial. Erica is proud of herself for her growth in her career and for becoming more than the girl who wore a tiara on The Bachelor .

Her Reality TV Past

Before appearing on one of Bravo's best reality shows , Erica Rose appeared on several other shows, the most notable being The Bachelor . Erica presented herself as a princess looking for love with Prince Lorenzo Borghese. She even wore a bedazzled tiara, making her one of the most memorable contestants of the season.

Even though she didn't take home the final rose, Erica stayed on reality television with appearances on VH1 and two seasons of Bachelor Pad.

Her Husband

While some fans are questioning the fakest things about Below Deck , Erica Rose seemed to cause real drama while on board. Erica Rose's husband, Charles, caused a stir on the Below Deck boat when he wasn't satisfied with his breakfast and continued complaining about several things on the ship. Charles is also an attorney and works alongside his wife at their law firm.

According to his Instagram ( @chaleschucksanders ), Charles handles the legal repercussions of car accidents. He also likes showing off his Rolex collection and selfies. Since the episode of his charter aired, Charles has been taking heat in the comments sections over his "disgusting" behavior on the yacht.

Her Political Affiliation

Erica's political affiliation has been a hot topic every time she has stepped on the super yacht. On her first charter, Erica showed her support with a Donald Trump-printed bikini. However, this time Erica wore a Joe Biden bikini, leaving fans of the show to question whether or not Erica actually supports either of the presidents.

Erica often posts about her love for America on her social media but hasn't openly said which party she supports. By keeping fans guessing about who she supports, Erica keeps fans from both sides of the political field happy.

Erica's mom Cindy was a significant player in how their charter panned out both times they appeared on the show. Even though their charter may not be one of Reddit's favorite episodes of the Bravo show , Cindy helped make it a memorable one. Cindy wasn't happy with her food most of the time and had a list of demands that frustrated the crew. Fans were intrigued by the eccentric Cindy and what she does when she isn't traveling with her daughter and son-in-law.

Cindy works as a silhouette artist and has had a good amount of success with her craft. According to her website , Cindy has worked in Disneyland and uses the money from her art to donate to women who have been affected by breast cancer.

Her Plastic Surgery

Erica Rose has been open with the work she has had done over the years. According to her social media, Erica has had veneers, injections of Botox and filler, and regularly gets facials to maintain her skin.

While some reality television stars hide their plastic surgery, Erica has decided to be open with what she has gotten done and take a body-positive approach in an attempt to show people there is nothing wrong with getting work done if it is something they want and will make them feel better about their appearance.

Her Reaction To The Show

Even though she has apologized for her low tip and her husband's behavior, Erica has been open with how she feels about the Below Deck backlash. In her Instagram bio ( @ericatherose ), Erica added that she is "So over below deck ✌️" even though both she and Charles have pinned stories of their reactions to the show and other viewers' posts about them.

While the couple may be over the backlash they've received, they are still capitalizing on the publicity.

Meet the breakout star of Bravo's 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht'

chuck below deck sailing yacht instagram

You wouldn't know it from watching "Below Deck Sailing Yacht," but Gary King likes to have space to himself. Before he starts the summer charter season, he likes to book a hotel room for a few days. "If I can have my own space, and just relax a little bit, it makes the season a lot easier," says the 33-year-old via video chat from a hotel room in Sardinia he's booked for precisely this purpose.

King, who is from South Africa, has just finished a day of work aboard Parsifal III, the 177-foot sailing yacht that provides a setting for some of the most outrageous antics in the Bravo universe.

Each show in the dangerously habit-forming "Below Deck" franchise follows the hard-partying crew members and demanding guests aboard yachts in exotic destinations around the world. Now in its third season, "Sailing Yacht" is arguably the most dramatic incarnation of "Below Deck," thanks to tighter living quarters, wind-tossed working conditions and adventure-hungry crew members.

King, who joined "Sailing Yacht" in Season 2, has become the show's breakout star, a mischievous charmer with a tousled man bun and a husky smoker's voice who is almost bafflingly irresistible to his female co-workers. (King has hooked up with nearly all the women in the Parsifal III crew as they sailed the Balearic Islands of Spain this season, but his abundant chemistry with plucky chief steward Daisy Kelliher is what has viewers in a frenzy.)

In other words, King makes for great TV. But he also happens to be very good at his other job, as the Parsifal's first mate; this season viewers saw King spring into action when the yacht nearly ran aground during an early morning wind storm.

King has always gravitated to the water. Growing up in Knysna, a city in South Africa known for its large lagoon, he'd often hitchhike to the beach after school. He became a "yachtie" by accident: During a gap year in Majorca, he learned quickly the South African rand doesn't go very far in Europe. Unwilling to ask his mom, a single parent, for money, he decided to go "dock-walking."

"It's the most demoralizing thing in the world," he says. "You go from one boat to another: 'Hi, do you have work for me?' 'No.'" Eventually, he got a job on Creole, "a lovely old classic schooner built in 1927," and he hasn't looked back "I kept getting paid to travel and I was making good money. Here I am, 12 years later."

The job makes it hard to settle down — something King swears he wants to do sooner rather than later. Mostly, though, he's eager to film more "Sailing Yacht," should the powers-that-be at Bravo decide to bring him back for another sail.

Q: Tell me how you ended up on "Below Deck Sailing Yacht." Had you heard about the show before you were cast?

A: If you work on boats, you hear about "Below Deck," but I don't actually watch any reality TV, to be honest. I'd never watched the show prior to getting cast.

There's a woman named Diana Wallace. She's the casting agent. She joins yachtie pages all over Europe and the States. And then she just sends (messages) out to random people. So I received a few messages from her asking me to be on the show. I was like, "It's COVID. What's the worst that can happen?" Never thought I was gonna get the job. Done two seasons and never looked back.

Q: Do you watch the show now?

A: Some episodes. I send them to my mom. She's my number one fan and my number one critic, so she'll let me know which episodes I have to watch. She'll be like, "Gary, I wasn't very happy with you on that episode." Then I go watch it and see what I did wrong. My mom's proud of me but she's also like, "Gary, come on. This is not how I brought you up." Obviously, I'm a mother's boy.

Q: What has been the hardest thing for you to watch back?

A: Just hooking up with girls on TV. It's a little bit cringe. Also just getting drunk on TV. It comes with the industry. We need to blow off some steam. But I don't think it's a very good look, us being so pissed while on TV.

Q: How do the yachties on the show compare to those in real life? Is everyone really as crazy as they are on "Below Deck"?

A: I think the yachties in real life are a lot crazier than they are on "Below Deck." If "Below Deck" actually knew exactly what went on on boats, this show would go on for thousands of episodes.

Q: So you think "Below Deck" is tamer than real life?

A: To a certain extent, yes. There are some things that are far-fetched (on the show), like the charter guest, Chuck (who said he could get better food at a ballpark and left a terrible tip). You wouldn't really have a charter guest that would say something like that, because these people have got class, and (outside of the show) they're paying upwards of $200,000 a week to charter this boat. But how the crew parties afterwards — that's pretty accurate. I've heard stories that I don't really want to share but are a lot worse than what happens on "Below Deck."

How ‘The Real Housewives’ glam arms race gets its cast into hot water

Bravo’s glittery reality franchise has always encouraged competitive consumption. But cast members’ financial ‘smoke and mirrors’ can lead to trouble.

June 22, 2021

Tell me how you ended up on “Below Deck Sailing Yacht.” Had you heard about the show before you were cast?

If you work on boats, you hear about “Below Deck,” but I don’t actually watch any reality TV to be honest. I’d never watched the show prior to getting cast.

There’s a woman named Diana Wallace. She’s the casting agent. She joins yachtie pages all over Europe and the States. And then she just sends [messages] out to random people. So I received a few messages from her asking me to be on the show. I was like, “It’s COVID. What’s the worst that can happen?” Never thought I was gonna get the job. Done two seasons and never looked back.

Do you watch the show now?

Some episodes. I send them to my mom. She’s my number one fan and my number one critic, so she’ll let me know which episodes I have to watch. She’ll be like, “Gary, I wasn’t very happy with you on that episode.” Then I go watch it and see what I did wrong. My mom’s proud of me but she’s also like, “Gary, come on. This is not how I brought you up.” Obviously, I’m a mother’s boy.

What has been the hardest thing for you to watch back?

Just hooking up with girls on TV. It’s a little bit cringe. Also just getting drunk on TV. It comes with the industry. We need to blow off some steam. But I don’t think it’s a very good look, us being so pissed while on TV.

How do the yachties on the show compare to those in real life? Is everyone really as crazy as they are on “Below Deck”?

I think the yachties in real life are a lot crazier than they are on “Below Deck.” If “Below Deck” actually knew exactly what went on on boats, this show would go on for thousands of episodes.

So you think “Below Deck” is tamer than real life?

To a certain extent, yes. There are some things that are far-fetched [on the show], like the charter guest, Chuck [who said he could get better food at a ballpark and left a terrible tip]. You wouldn’t really have a charter guest that would say something like that, because these people have got class, and [outside of the show] they’re paying upwards of $200,000 a week to charter this boat. But how the crew parties afterwards — that’s pretty accurate. I’ve heard stories that I don’t really want to share but are a lot worse than what happens on “Below Deck.”

So the guests in real life are not as bad as the ones on Bravo?

As a rule. On sailing boats, I think the guests have got more class. They come from old money. But friends that have worked on motorboats, some of the stories they’ve told me it’s like, “How could you even work on that boat?” But a charter’s a charter. You work for a week, you kind of forget all the bull— that happened because you’ve got a €5,000 tip.

A group of people on the deck of a yacht

How would you describe the difference between people who work on sailing yachts and people who work on motor yachts? Are there stereotypes about these groups?

People on a motorboat, they’re just there for the paycheck. Any motorboat you work on is pretty much the same. Whereas in a sailing boat, we’re out there for the adventure. We’re going from A to B sailing, getting propelled by the elements. And I find the clientele come for the experience on a sailing boat. If you’ve got money, any Tom, Dick or Harry can go charter a motorboat.

Do you get this attention from women when you are on dry land?

Well, clearly not, because I’m still single. I don’t know what it is about the boats.

It’s a tough industry for relationships.

For sure. I was actually chatting to Glenn [Shephard, the captain] today about going on rotation [after the summer charter season is over], maybe do three months on, three months off, so I can start settling down, try and meet someone. I can’t really commit to anyone when I’m going to leave in a week’s time. I’m starting to wig out about it: Am I going to be single for the rest of my life? I grew up without a father, and I want to make sure that I’m there for my kids, if I ever have the chance to have kids one day.

Fans are definitely shipping you and Daisy, as you surely know. What’s going on between you two?

I’ve definitely got a soft spot for Daisy. We still chat often. When I was in London, we had lunch together. We have a great relationship. But also, after watching that episode where she told the charter guests, “I would never date Gary. I’m not an idiot,” that hurt me a little bit. This is maybe my problem. When I like a girl, they don’t feel the same way for me. And vice versa. Because that’s what happened with me and Ashley this season. That’s another reason why I keep thinking, “Am I going to be single for the rest of my life?”

So you were genuinely hurt when she said that?

100%. I’m not gonna force anything to happen between Daisy and I. I definitely have chemistry with her, whether she agrees with that or not. But things like that [comment] hurt a little bit. Maybe she was just trying to make a joke in front of the charter guests. I just think her wording could have been different if it was a joke.

Bravo built its brand on “Real Housewives” and other addictive reality soaps. With the inaugural BravoCon, it gave fans an event worthy of pilgrimage.

Nov. 18, 2019

Do you think maybe she was being defensive?

Possibly, I don’t want to look too much into it. But I’m single. I’ve got a lot of time to think about things.

A lot of viewers were upset by your encounter with Ashley Marti and thought her behavior towards you constituted sexual assault because you were drunk. You have repeatedly said that you don’t feel this way. But did that incident make you reflect on the hook-up culture in your industry and the difficulties of drawing boundaries when you live and work with people in such close quarters?

I’m not proud of all my actions [this season]. And I don’t ever want to do that again. That Ashley scenario was a big realization for me.

I want the next girl who I start hooking up with to maybe be my girlfriend. I haven’t had a girlfriend for five years now. I can’t remember what it feels like. I don’t want to just hook up with girls and have one-night stands. I say that now, but if I come back for another season, who knows what will happen. [laughs]

There must be some tension there for you — trying to be a better person but also wanting to be entertaining .

I’d like to [come back for another season] because then I could show people that I have turned over a new leaf and there is a different side to me than just hooking up with chicks. Most of my best friends are females. But on Instagram , people say I’m a womanizer, which is the furthest thing from the truth.

Are there things you do differently when the cameras aren’t there?

We definitely wouldn’t sail before they’ve had breakfast. That’s ridiculous. But also, the charter guests on [the show] only have three days, two nights. They’re still paying a lot of money to be on the boat. They want to sail as much as possible.

I don’t hook up with my stewardesses off-camera [that much], believe it or not. It’s happened once or twice, but it’s not like it happens on the TV show. Also, we don’t go out every three nights, because we’ll have a 10-day charter, and then [a few days for] turnaround, then a seven-day charter. We’ll be lucky if we can all go ashore to have a dinner and have a few glasses of wine.

Colin MacRae, Barnaby Birkbeck and Gary King in "Below Deck Sailing Yacht"

What’s your favorite place to sail?

I absolutely love Greece. There is always wind. You can always find an island that has no one else around. The water is beautiful. The food is just phenomenal.

Glenn has a very interesting leadership style compared to some of the other captains in the “Below Deck” universe, who are a bit tougher. How would you describe it?

Glenn is very gentle. But also I’d say Glenn leads by example. If someone makes a mistake, Glenn would be the first person to say, “Listen, you make mistakes, you’re only human.” He’s just so patient and so humble. I think everyone needs a Glenn in their life, to be honest with you.

You and Colin have a very entertaining rapport.

We are like chalk and cheese. He’s very sensible and I’m not. He thinks before he speaks; I don’t. I think we both live vicariously through each other, me doing silly things, and Colin being the sensible person who I can always look up to. I actually just spoke to him yesterday, telling him I miss him. It’s such a bromance. As soon as we chat, it’s like, “Hey, loser. How’s it going?”

It seems like you and Daisy clashed at first but really grew fond of each other this season. Is that just the editing or did it feel that way to you as well?

I don’t know if both of us were in denial about liking each other. But it was like two little kids, when they like each other, they fight like cats and dogs. I’m still trying to work that one out, to be honest. But it was my highlight coming out of the season, being such good friends with Daisy. It means a lot to me. If it has to happen between Daisy and I — not that I’m saying it will — but if it has to happen, then so be it.

Why Below Deck Needs Sous Chefs

By Amy DeVore

Chef Rachel Hargrove

Trouble in the galley is a common storyline on Below Deck . Other people’s stressors are fun to watch, because it isn’t us dealing with the drama. So yeah, we get it, but also, we’re kinda over it. Watching talented chefs struggle, while the charter guests sit there and complain, isn’t fun.

So what’s the solution? Well, if the yacht is large enough, an extra hired hand could certainly help. Typically speaking, yachts that are featured on the show are 50-meters or less in size. This footage usually does not allow for a sous chef onboard.

However, Motor Yacht St David far surpassed this size, coming in at a whopping 60-meters. This stunner’s featured on Below Deck Mediterranean Seasons 10 and 11. According to Yacht Charter Fleet , the St. David is capable of carrying up to 14 crew members onboard. We need more yachts of this size, for so many reasons.

To start, the majority of BD ’s viewers will never charter a luxury yacht. I hate this for us. Yet, this Bravo series has given us an opportunity to lurk on how the wealthy vacation. We love peeping big, fancy things, so let’s give these yachties a few more meters to clean and launder, we demand, as the crumbs from our viewing snacks mount on our couches.

Most importantly, the bigger the yacht, the bigger the crew, which would allow for our desired sous chef onboard. Seriously, Below Deck should consider upping their yacht sizes, and in doing so, add on a Sous Chef position. Here’s why.

Timing on Charters Is Important

Even the most skilled Below Deck chefs have hit roadblocks. These culinary artists have to prepare multiple meals and snacks each day for their paying guests. They also have to feed their entire crew. This is a massive responsibility.

Below Deck Season 11 had Chef Anthony Iracane . His talent is clear. On his website , he states that he’s “owned an upscale restaurant in France for 5 years. Prior to this, I was trained in a french culinary school. Aside from chartering, I recently opened a french street food company ‘Snackybae™️’ catering to events and locales across south Florida.”

As you can see, Chef Anthony deserves this role, and yet, he’s struggling . His dishes are taking forever to come out of the galley. This is leaving his guests frustrated. Equally frustrated is his crew, who are getting far less than what they need to sustain them as they work.

As the timing and the feeding of the crews are equally important, Chef Anthony likely would have been so much better off had he had help. The same goes for any of the other great BD chefs, who have all pretty much faced these same obstacles. A Sous Chef could focus on the crews meals, in addition to the prepping of the guest’s dishes, which would allow the head chef all of the time needed to crank out their main plates.

With Sous Chefs, Chefs Can Better Cater To Every Ask

View this post on Instagram A post shared by @belowdeckmemes

Sometimes, the guests have laughable asks , such as a 2am plate of nachos. No shade thrown here, because we’d also want this, as long as it wasn’t made by Chef Mila Kolomeitseva . Other times though, the guests have come onboard with very specific dietary needs. The chefs then have to accommodate for each of these detailed requirements, no matter how many ingredients this sees being eliminated from their toolboxes.

Remember that preference sheet meeting in Season 10, where Chef Rachel Hargrove felt overwhelmed? To recap, the primary had gone overboard with his asks. His requests included a big breakfast, rainbow and unicorn floats, seafood, steaks, American fine dining, authentic New Orleans cuisine, Spanish not Mexican food, and a 10-course dinner. It was a lot.

“Eat my cooter. You pay the $16,000 a month for me to be your private chef in Monaco, then we’ll talk. Until then, I don’t play that game. I’d like the flight home, and I’ll start packing now,” Rachel said , pointing to the “ostentatious bullshit” that this guest wanted from just one chef.

As the wellness industry is thriving, new dietary trends will continue to form. Likewise, specific medical needs will always exist, as will the over-the-top requests that are made 24/7. Therefore, these chefs will always have a lot of asks to plan for with each of their charters. With a Sous Chef around, they could better cater to every request made.

Sous Chefs Mean Less Stress for the Crew

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Below Deck (@belowdeckbravo)

At times, many chefs have received help from their Captains , deckhands, and their stews. These crew members have all poured into the galleys, helping the chefs prep for their meal services. However, this takes a toll on the boat, as these yachties are pulled away from their own hired positions. At times, this has created even larger problems onboard.

As the guests experiences dictate what kind of tip they leave, zero aspects should be lacking. If someone’s pulled away to help meal prep, that’s one less crew member to tend to their needs. It also means this person’s main responsibilities would have to be covered by their team. If a Sous Chef came onboard, it would help to cut down on these extra stressors seen.

One More Yachtie Onboard Could Heighten Storylines

The Below Deck franchise has seen so many wild storylines . There have been many shocking firings , hook-ups, and even serious injuries onboard. You know what could heighten this? That’s right, one more crew member added to the chaos.

Even if this new hire came on in a dual-position role, where they also worked as a deckie or a stew, that’d be ok. Overall, their time spent helping the chef excel, while dabbling a toe (or ten) into the drama onboard, would be well worth this additional paycheck cut by Bravo.

Daisy Kelliher dishes Below Deck Sailing Yacht success, reveals if she still stalks to Gary King after scandal

Daisy Kelliher on BDS Season 4

Below Deck Sailing Yacht star Daisy Kelliher has dished about her success on the hit show ahead of Season 5.

Daisy has appeared on three seasons of Below Deck Sailing Yacht and helped turn the show around after a lackluster first season.

Despite a serious rift in the dream team trio of Colin, Daisy, and Gary following Season 4, fans still can’t get enough of them.

Ahead of her fourth stint on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Daisy has opened up about life following her success and how she ended up on the show.

Daisy lost her job during the COVID-19 pandemic and at the urging of friends, she applied to be on Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

Speaking with The Irish Independent, Daisy admitted that a couple of weeks after applying, she was filming Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 in Croatia.

Although it may seem like Daisy’s life has changed drastically since she became a staple on the sailing franchise, she insists that’s not the case.

“My life hasn’t changed dramatically, but there have been small, subtle changes – it’s been fun,” she expressed to the outlet.

As Monsters and Critics previously reported, one big change for Daisy is her new friendship with Hollywood A-list star Christina Applegate.

Daisy also looked back on her life since her Below Deck Sailing Yacht debut, admitting she didn’t think she would get the gig, but is beyond happy she did.

“The last three years have been kind of a whirlwind, I really can’t complain. I’m getting to do all my yachting work and slowly getting to do other things as well,” Daisy stated.

With her fourth season hitting Bravo airwaves this year, one can’t help but wonder how much longer Daisy will still be on Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

“I’m just being a ‘yes person’ at the moment. The last few years have changed very quickly, so my attitude right now is just saying yes and seeing where things take me,” Daisy spilled. “I’ve done everything from podcasts to the show, to still doing both, so every day is very different. I don’t know what the future holds right now.”

Along with opening up about her success on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Daisy also shared if she still speaks to Gary following sexual misconduct allegations against him.

Daisy Kelliher reveals if she still talks to Gary King

Last summer, Gary was accused of sexual misconduct by a production team member. However, even before that, Daisy and Gary were at odds over things that went down during Season 4, especially her hooking up with Colin.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans have wondered where Daisy and Gary stand today following the scandal and their fallout. After all, Gary was removed from BravoCon after the allegations against him came to light, so no resolution to his and Daisy’s friendship was revealed there.

During an Instagram Stories Q&A session, Daisy asked who she talks to from the show. Dani Soares and Gary were two names Daisy brought up immediately.

Although she did mention she keeps in touch with others like Alli Dore, Daisy also declared that they all simply live different lives. Daisy confirmed that no other cast members from Below Deck Sailing Yacht live in London, where she resides.

Daisy frequently hangs with Below Deck stars Fraser Olender and Hayley De Sola Pinto. She also spends time with Below Deck Med alum Courtney Veale since they live in London.

The wait to see Daisy Kelliher back on Below Deck Sailing Yacht won’t be much longer. Captain Glenn hinted at when the Parsifal III crew will be back, and you can read what he had to say here.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is currently on hiatus on Bravo. Seasons 1-4 are streaming on Peacock.
