The online yacht auction marketplace.

Boathouse Auctions is a time-certain online yacht auction platform that connects prequalified buyers with motivated sellers. Our approach combines the benefits of traditional brokerage with the added value of time certainty and the competition and urgency created by an auction.

Brands We've Worked With

logo_1c_HinckleyYachts

Recognizing the limitations of the traditional yacht resale model, we built a platform that provides an alternative approach. Introducing the first and only fully-integrated online boat auction platform designed to remove friction in the sales process for yacht buyers and sellers.

yacht auctions usa

The future of yacht buying is here

Boathouse Auctions provides attractive opportunities for buyers able to act with urgency. By streamlining the traditional sales approach, buyers name their price at the click of a button from our curated inventory of motor yachts and sailboats from motivated sellers around the world.

yacht auctions usa

A deliberately different approach to yacht sales

When selling a luxury yacht, not only do sellers get frustrated and fatigued, but time is real money. Days on market are costly. Too often in the traditional model, ‘days’ turn into years which in turn begins the slippery slope of price reductions.

Boathouse Auctions was built as a solution to the costly problem of time. We work with sellers to eliminate costs by bringing buyers together, at the same time, to accomplish in weeks what otherwise can simply take too many months or years. By aggregating competition, our approach creates a sense of urgency and an accelerated sale of your yacht.

With Boathouse Auctions, our time-certain approach accelerates the process while eliminating costs to provide an optimal net return. Sell your yacht on your terms and timeline in four weeks or less.

Testimonials

Don’t just take our word for it.

I recently used Boathouse Auctions to sell my 50′ Sport Yacht. A unique boat that had proved difficult to move. I found Jack and his people to be among the most professional and efficient people I have dealt with over my 40 year career in the boating industry. Excellent communications, advice, and execution.

50' Maverick 2022

My experience with Boathouse Auctions was excellent. The process went smoothly with very good communication along the way. The auction really sought to get the best price for my yacht. Such good organization and process. I highly recommend Boathouse Auctions.

77’ Goetz Carbon Sloop 2013

My decision to bring Boathouse Auctions into the traditional yacht marketing program was a great one. In less than 5 weeks, we had over 35 prospects, multiple bidders, and a deadline that created a sense of urgency that helped us quickly close the sale of our yacht at a price we were very pleased with.

44' Little Harbor Whisperjet 1999

Pacific Provider was on the market for quite some time. We recently reduced the price significantly but still this generated little solid interest. Engaging Boathouse Auctions was a key strategic decision. It shifted leverage from the buyers to the seller as it created a deadline and a sense of urgency. We received multiple pre-auction offers and sold Pacific Provider prior to the auction.

157' Blount Marine 1978

As a seller, the lack of a pending event plus the extended due diligence a buyer requires creates a buyer-advantaged process. Boathouse Auctions has successfully and politely modified the approach to bring this archaic process into the 21st century. I am thrilled with the result.

75' Molokai Strait 2006

As the carrying costs of larger yachts can be significant, days on market are costly. By offering Altitude Adjustment II through Boathouse Auctions, the finite timeline of the auction process serves as a motivation to prospective buyers and as an asset to owners in terms of time and cost savings.

106' Broward 2006

I praise Boathouse Auctions for leading me to the successful close of the boat I’d never before considered.

58' Vicem 2004

Court denies US request to sell yacht it says belongs to sanctioned Russian oligarch

  • By VOA News

FILE - The superyacht Amadea sails into San Diego Bay, June 27, 2022, as seen from Coronado, California. The U.S. wants to sell the confiscated vessel, which it says belongs to a sanctioned Russian oligarch.

A New York court has denied the U.S. government the right to sell a superyacht that it alleges belongs to sanctioned Russian oligarch Suleyman Kerimov.

The ruling means that U.S. taxpayers will continue to foot the bill for roughly $740,000 a month for the 106-meter Amadea's upkeep and insurance.

The luxury vessel, with an estimated value of $230 million, is at the center of a legal battle over the enforcement of U.S. sanctions against Russia. American prosecutors allege that Kerimov and his proxies routed dollar transactions through U.S. financial institutions to maintain the yacht, which would constitute a sanctions violation.

In May 2022, the island nation of Fiji confiscated the Amadea and later transferred it to the United States. The U.S. government would like to sell the yacht and transfer the proceeds to Ukraine.

But that procedure, known as civil forfeiture, grew more complicated when another Russian billionaire, Eduard Khudainatov, who is not under U.S. sanctions, claimed the Amadea actually belongs to him.

In court filings, the Justice Department has termed Khudainatov a "straw owner" for Kerimov. Khudainatov denies that.

The legal battle over Amadea could take a while. Until it concludes, the U.S. government is paying roughly $600,000 for the yacht's upkeep and $140,000 for its insurance each month.

In a bid to decrease those expenses, the U.S. government requested permission to sell the vessel and convert its value into cash. That practice is relatively common in civil forfeiture cases when an asset is rapidly depreciating in value or its upkeep is excessively costly.

But on Tuesday, the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York ruled that the cost of maintaining Amadea was not "excessive."

To assess "whether the maintenance costs of the Amadea are excessive, the court must not look solely at the total dollar amount of the maintenance costs, but must principally consider whether those amounts are more than what is usual as compared to the maintenance costs for other similar yachts," the judge wrote in the ruling.

The U.S. government could not prove the expenses met that standard, the court ruled. The Justice Department has the right to appeal the decision.

Two days after the ruling, lawyers representing Khudainatov and the company that directly owns the Amadea filed a memorandum opposing the U.S. government's efforts to strike Khudainatov from the case. Prosecutors allege that Khudainatov is not the yacht's actual owner, meaning he lacks standing to contest its forfeiture.

But the memorandum, which includes declarations from yacht employees and contractors, argues that Khudainatov is the true owner and, thus, the Amadea is not subject to forfeiture at all.

The U.S. government's attempts to strike Khudainatov from the case are "nothing more than a desperate attempt to steal the Amadea by default," Adam Ford and Renee Jarusinsky, counsel for Khudainatov and the ownership company, said in a statement.

"Mr. Khudainatov is, and always has been, the rightful owner of the Amadea," they continued. "We are confident that the truth will prevail and the boat will be returned. Until then, this costly burden that the government has placed on the American people will continue to grow heavier."

The Justice Department declined to comment.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

<< Previous page

Pages:  379-406

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.

Sapphire (Fersman Museum of Moscow & Kay Robertson Coll.)

Item description.

A dramatically set 2.4 cm tabular sapphire crystal dominates this sculptural and rich corundum specimen from this less well-known Urals locality. The textbook hexagonal crystal has classic sapphire-blue color, high luster and moderate translucence. The feldspar matrix holds at least eight more striking, stacked, tabular crystals. The back has been sawed to enhance the display quality. RARE and very seldom on the market material with a fine provenance from the Kay Robertson Collection # 11938 and formerly in the Fersman Museum Collection in Moscow. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).

FEMA Urges Public to Stay on Alert, Stands Ready to Support Tropical Storm Beryl

world globe

Release Date Release Number
HQ-24-117

WASHINGTON -- As the first major hurricane of the season sets the tone for heightened storm activity in the coming months, FEMA pre-positioned personnel on the ground in Texas to support state-led response efforts while Tropical Storm Beryl continues its path along the Texas coast and further inland.

Prior to the hurricane’s landfall, FEMA staged commodities and critical supplies, including 500,000 meals and 800,000 liters of water, that are ready to distribute at the state’s request. FEMA also has 60 generators on-site to provide power to critical infrastructure, if needed. To ensure communication capabilities on the ground, FEMA has two Mobile Emergency Response Support vehicles prepared to support.

People in the storm’s path are still encouraged to remain vigilant and listen to their local officials, as the storm continues to move inland.

Federal and State Response Efforts

FEMA has over 60 staff embedded with the state who stand ready to support response operations as needed.

The U.S. Coast Guard is on standby with boats and aircraft to assist search and rescue activities as well as reconstitute ports as it becomes safe to do so. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has an Emergency Power Planning and Response Team on the ground to assist with any temporary emergency power needs to critical public facilities.

The State of Texas currently has more than 2,000 responders and 850 assets rostered and deployed in support of the state’s response to anticipated impacts from the storm. The state continues to take action to provide all available resources to help support local communities in need. For more information, visit:  Hurricane Beryl (texas.gov) .

Non-profit Partner Support

The Salvation Army has mobilized an Emergency Disaster Services team focused on providing feeding, emotional and spiritual care and has 35,000 meals ready for storm survivors. In addition, the American Red Cross has deployed hundreds of trained disaster workers and truckloads of relief supplies, along with numerous emergency response vehicles, to impacted areas. Team Rubicon’s domestic teams have more than 16,000 local volunteers standing by.

Stay Safe After Tropical Storm Beryl

Residents and visitors affected by the storm should be aware of continued risks and should not walk, swim or drive through flood waters.

Residents should continue to closely monitor the path of the storm and follow instructions from local officials.

  • Stay off the roads.  Emergency workers may be assisting people in flooded areas or cleaning up debris. People can help them by staying off the roads and out of the way.
  • Don’t drive through flood waters.  Almost half of all flash flood deaths happen in vehicles. When driving, look out for flooding in low lying areas at bridges and at highway dips. As little as 6 inches of water may cause people to lose control of their vehicle.
  • Do not walk or wade in flood waters. The water may be contaminated by oil, gasoline or raw sewage. It may also include dangerous wildlife. For flooded basements, people should never attempt to turn off power or operate circuit breakers while standing in water. Wear gloves and sturdy thick-soled shoes. Do not try to remove heavy debris alone.
  • Avoid downed power or utility lines. Consider all downed lines live with deadly voltage. Stay away and report them immediately to the power or utility company.

As power outages continue to affect the area, FEMA urges residents and business owners to follow these tips to stay safe:

  • Use generators safely. Generators can be helpful when the power goes out. It is important to know how to use them safely to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning and other hazards. Only use them outdoors and away from windows.
  • Keep freezers and refrigerators closed. A refrigerator will keep food cold for about four hours and a full freezer will keep the temperature for about 48 hours.
  • Disconnect appliances and electronics.  Turn off or disconnect appliances, equipment or electronics. Power may return with momentary surges or spikes that can cause damage.

For additional information on staying safe during and after disasters, visit  Ready.gov or  Listo.gov  in Spanish language.

Boat involved in notorious walleye cheating scandal could be yours, share this article.

Anglers around the country might recall the highly publicized cheating scandal in October 2022, involving two men who were found to have stuffed weights into their fish during a Lake Erie walleye tournament.

What anglers might not know is that, for the right price, they could own the top-line bass boat, motors and trailer used by the cheaters and later confiscated by Ohio authorities.

(Jacob Runyan and Steven Gall also received 10-day jail sentences.)

According to Government Deals , a public viewing and demonstration of the boat, valued at $100,000, will be held Saturday (July 13) at the Dempsey Fishing Access Area in Lakeside Marblehead, Ohio.

The 2022 Ranger 622 FS Pro Bass Boat is currently in the possession of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Bids are being accepted online through July 23 and the highest bid, as of July 11, was $82,000.

Keywords: Tuva, Early Iron Age, early Scythian period, Aldy-Bel culture, barrow, burial in the coffin, mummy, full genome sequencing, aDNA

A stegosaurus fossil could fetch $6 million at Sotheby's. Should they be auctioned?

Andrew Mambo

Stegosaurus Auction

A fossil of a stegosaurus specimen is on display at Sotheby's in New York.

A 150 million-year-old fossil of a stegosaurus specimen is shown at Sotheby's in New York. The fossil, dubbed "Apex" by the paleontologist who discovered it, is expected to fetch $4 million to $6 million at auction, making it one of the most expensive fossils ever sold. During the Jurassic period, a massive, four-legged creature with kite-shaped plates along its back once roamed the Earth. Now, some 150 million years later, the skeletal remains of one of them are up for auction.

On Wednesday, Sotheby’s will hold a live auction of the stegosaurus fossil known as “Apex." The auction house expects the specimen to sell for $4 million to $6 million, making it one of the most expensive fossils ever sold.

A 76 million-year-old dinosaur skeleton will be auctioned in New York City

A 76 million-year-old dinosaur skeleton will be auctioned in New York City

At 11 feet tall and 27 feet long, Apex is also considered one of the most complete skeletal structures of its kind. Paleontologist Cary Woodruff was among the scientists who viewed the specimen at the dig site in Colorado where it was discovered.

NPR's Andrew Mambo talked with Woodruff, who is also a curator at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science in Miami.

This interview has been edited for clarity and length.

Cary Woodruff: The first time I saw the specimen, I was with the individual who had collected it out at the quarry where it was found in Colorado. And the rock was incredibly hard. So, it never is like Jurassic Park , but it wasn't like some beautiful laid out skeleton and oh my gosh you could see the whole thing clear as day. But at least I remember, you know, peering. There's part of a stegosaurus here. And again, even for any fossil it's really kind of magical to see this almost like an ugly duckling, too, for any fossil to see it from this preparation process to the end result. You know, it's always very special for a scientist.

Andrew Mambo: So Sotheby's is auctioning off this stegosaurus fossil on July 17. The auction house estimates it'll go for somewhere between $4 million and $6 million. How do they put a monetary value on something like a dinosaur fossil?

Woodruff: Speaking as a scientist, fossils have no monetary value. You know, these numbers are largely arbitrary. I mean, every fossil literally is unique. And I'm not just saying that, as the starry-eyed scientist. Like, there are no two of the exact same animals. I don't think fossils should be allowed to be auctioned. And these auctions really continue to deepen the divide between what we would consider academic and commercial paleontology.

Mambo: I have read about people also donating and having replicas and not having the exact fossil itself. Can you talk a bit about that? Is that a viable way forward?

Woodruff: I think replicas are the best way possible. I mean, how many of us have a copy of a painting at our home or something? You know the real ones that you can see in a museum? And if some wealthy person is adamant they want to buy this dinosaur being auctioned, that they were adamant they wanted to get this specimen and scientifically see it succeed, and they wanted to donate it to, in this example, a museum, we'll have a cast that we'll put up in your living room. Then you can literally showcase it and brag to all your friends and say, "Go to the museum and see the real one, and I was able to put it in that museum."

NPR reached out to Sotheby's Senior Vice President and Global Head of Science and Pop Culture Cassandra Hatton to respond to criticism of auctions of fossil specimens.

"Losing scientifically important fossils to a private collection is a concern often mentioned, but in our experience, we have yet to see it materialize," Hatton said. "We find that clients overwhelmingly purchase specimens either for museums or donate them."

A stegosaurus nicknamed Apex will be auctioned in New York. Its remains show signs of arthritis

The bones of a 161-million-year-old Stegosaurus are on display at Sotheby’s in New York as part of the annual Geek Week sale series. With close to 79% fossil, the Jurassic period dinosaur is expected to sell for between $4 and $6 million. (AP video: Joseph B. Frederick)

NEW YORK (AP) — The nearly complete fossilized remains of a 161-million-year-old stegosaurus discovered in Colorado in 2022 will be auctioned by Sotheby’s in New York next week, auction house officials said.

The dinosaur that Sotheby’s calls Apex stands 11 feet (3.3 meters) tall and measures 27 feet (8.2 meters) nose to tail, according to Cassandra Hatton, Sotheby’s global head of science and popular culture.

The stegosaurus, with its distinctive pointy dorsal plates, is one of the world’s most recognizable dinosaurs.

Apex, which Hatton called “a coloring book dinosaur,” was discovered in May 2022 on private land near the town of Dinosaur, Colorado. The excavation was completed in October 2023, Sotheby’s said.

AP correspondent Ed Donahue reports on the upcoming sale of some very old bones.

Though experts believe stegosauruses used their fearsome tail spikes to fight, this specimen shows no signs of combat, Sotheby’s said. The fossil does show evidence of arthritis, suggesting that Apex lived to an advanced age.

Hatton said Apex was found “with the tail curled up underneath the body, which is a common death pose for animals.”

The dinosaur will be auctioned on July 17 as part of Sotheby’s “Geek Week” series.

Sotheby’s is estimating that it will sell for $4 million to $6 million, but that’s just an educated guess.

“This is an incredibly rare animal,” Hatton said. “A stegosaurus of this caliber has never sold at auction before, so we will find out what it is actually worth.”
