Flawlessly designed by interior designer Claudia Chez, the boat boasts French, art deco inspired finishes – providing an air of elegance for those who get the chance to stay. From king-sized bedrooms to an open plan kitchen and living space, the boat is literally 10x more lavish than most actual homes – and even features its very own outdoor deck that guests can use to soak up the sun with a drink.

Teaming up with Frog Manchester for the finishing touches, the Airbnb canal boat also features a number of gorgeous social media moments, with showstopping floral displays taking centre stage from the ceiling including a huge pampas grass installation above the kitchen, and a pretty hydrangea display meandering above one of the beds.

Best friends Erin and Harry designed their own 70-foot canal boat with the idea to create a unique, millionaire yacht-style stay

Airbnbs have become a popular choice for weekend city breaks and rural staycations across the UK. Manchester now has a huge array of Airbnb rentals - ranging from stylish homes and quaint cabins to rustic loft conversions.

Not only do Airbnbs tend to offer more privacy and space than a traditional hotel would, but they often allow you to experience a unique stay that's out of the ordinary realm.

Amongst the top-rated Airbnbs in Manchester is The Vätten Hüs - a luxury ' VIP' canal boat marketed as a 'floating penthouse'. Docked on the scenic Castlefield locks next to Dukes 92, the boat is set in a prime city-centre location whilst giving guests a feel of what it's like to live on a millionaire's yacht.

In the midst of the pandemic, best friends and business partners Harry Rix, 28 and Erin Short, 28, took the plunge when deciding to venture out into a new market.

With a boom in staycations, the friends saw a gap in the market and set out to create a rental that was unlike any other, with the aim to rival outstanding luxury city centre stays.

"Whilst everyone was staying put during Covid, we realised that staycations were becoming more of a thing. Harry and I are both entrepreneurs and so we just decided to differ into this interesting market," said Erin.

"Harry has a background in boating and as Manchester's got a lot of heritage with canals, we decided that a canal boat would tie in with the whole idea.

"I personally had no experience with any rentals before, so it started off on a bit of a whim as a fun side business for us."

The pair designed the wide beam canal boat from scratch with help from interior designer Claudia Chez to give it the utmost luxury feel.

"We went for the largest size at 70 foot, that's the biggest size you can physically put on the water," Erin explained.

"We got help with the interior design and we took a lot of inspiration from luxury apartments and five-star stays in terms of the features, colours and styling.

"We went to look at lots of boats that people lived on and and then we started adapting things to make it the best version of a narrow boat that we could.

"It's a kind of modern take on a traditional boat and I would say we completely turned what a canal boat is meant to be on its head."

The whole process from designing it to completion took almost nine months and the total cost was around £220,000. It has since been valued at around £300,000.

"We spent three months negotiating and getting all of the design elements together and then we started with the build, which took probably six months to get right," Erin said.

“We’ve got around £3,000 worth of flowers on the boat, the kitchen top cost around £5,000, the beds are almost £1,000 each and the linen is around £1,000, so everything we kitted the boat out with was expensive and done to a high standard.

"When I think of how it went from building the shell to what it is now, it’s amazing."

Once the boat was ready, Erin and Harry launched their joint venture Prestige Worldwide and listed The Vatten Hus, meaning 'water house', on Airbnb.

"We first put it on Airbnb about two years ago now and we had around 13 solid weeks of full bookings," Erin said.

"I think we really benefited from lockdown in terms of people not being able to leave. We kind of hoped it would be successful but it just got more and more popular. We came out in the top Airbnb hosts in the first year.

"Me and Harry are best friends so to do this together and it come out so successfully just makes it even sweeter. I think one of the biggest take aways for me is that everyone who stays comes back to stay again.

"I would say the Vatten Hus is the market leader for canal stays."

The Vatten Hus currently has a 4.83 rating on Airbnb and has received 5-star ratings from 90% of recent guests.

Accommodating up to six people, the canal boat has a range of guests from couples enjoying a romantic break to hen dos and birthday parties.

"We often have couples coming for a weekend break but it sleeps up to six so some people use it for a night out and they’ll hire a cocktail bartender to come onto the boat," Erin said.

"The average price per night ranges between £350 in the week and up to £700 on a weekend depending on how many guests we have.

"Our price point is based around other five-star stays in Manchester such as the Dakota hotel."

The boat boasts two luxury king-sized bedrooms and a spacious open plan kitchen, living and a VIP outdoor area.

Giving a tour around the boat, Erin described: "We find that guests expect it to be a lot smaller than it is, but it’s huge.

“When you first step onto the boat you have the outdoor deck with some seating which is lovely for drinking cocktails in the summer or hot chocolates in the winter.

"When you go down into the boat you’ve got a living kitchen area which has a large pull-out sofa bed and a smart TV. Then we have a big kitchen island which is great for socialising and celebrating.

"We have a big flower display that hangs over the island which is the show-stopping area where all of our pictures get taken from. The kitchen is fully equipped which is ideal for people that just want to stay on the boat.

Erin added: "When you start walking through the boat you’ve got the first bedroom which is the white blossom room with a king-sized bed. Then you go into the bathroom with a double sink and a shower.

"The final bedroom at the back of the boat is the pink blossom bedroom which again has a king sized bed which is super luxurious.

“You really do forget that you are on a boat when you’re on it. There are some incredible hotels in Manchester but we stand out because we’re that bit different."

Guests have access to the whole boat however the boat can't be moved from where it's docked due to insurance.

Below Deck: The luxury Airbnb 130ft yacht you can rent in Greater Manchester

Greater Manchester has more than its fair share of cool and quirky Airbnbs, from stylish Northern Quarter loft apartments to terraced houses in the suburbs. Yet there’s one which is unlike any other and it offers a rather unique experience.

Moored in Clippers Quay in Salford is a 130ft classic yacht which you can book on Airbnb . It’s perfect for those who’ve always fancied a taste of the high life - or if you can’t stop binge watching the TV show Below Deck.

Salford Quays may not be the Mediterranean (we can dream though) but the yacht, named Jacamar, still provides guests with a glamorous stay.

Step on board Jacamar and you’ll immediately feel like an A-lister. The yacht is decked out with chic designer fixtures and fittings with every corner oozing luxury.

The yacht boasts a huge 800ft main lounge space, which is furnished with stylish cream sofas where you can relax with friends or family. Enjoy meals in the dining space where there’s a bespoke oval glass and granite table - you can even hire a private chef to come on board if you desire.

Tucked inside the wheel house is a snug TV lounge with panoramic windows. Meanwhile the galley kitchen, with an original ship’s oven and state of the art appliances, has everything you’d need for your stay.

Jacamar has three beautifully designed en-suite cabins which each sleep two people. The chic bathrooms all have Neal’s Yard products for a luxurious bathing experience.

Throughout the yacht you’ll find stunning artwork and photography by award-winning photographers Anthony Crook, Guy Farrow and Amelia Troubridge. With an interior this gorgeous you’ll start to believe Jacamar is moored in Monaco or Nice.

The yacht is only a short walk away from the restaurants and bars in Media City. It’s also the perfect base to explore the city centre from, as it’s just a 15 minute tram ride away. There are two parking spaces available while Exchange Quay tram stop is only five minutes away.

Jacamar sleeps six guests, although it can sleep up to 10 with the addition of two small fold out double beds. The yacht is strictly not a party boat and doesn’t accept large groups, hen or stag parties.

E veryone loves a night or two in a hotel, the chance to get away for a bit and enjoy the little luxuries that come with a hotel stay. And these days there are more and more ways you can turn your mini-breaks more of an adventure, thanks to sites like Airbnb. 

There are mansions with enough rooms to accommodate a whole stag party. You can rent out a tiny shepherds’ hut that also comes with an outdoor hot tub. Or maybe you want to wake up on the water and enjoy your breakfast on the deck of a house boat. The range of accommodation on offer is endless.

This jungle-themed apartment in Ancoats caught our eye because of the name alone. This swanky property has three bedrooms, 16 beds and two bathrooms, and is definitely designed for hosting big groups like hen or stag parties. It boasts a hot tub and bar within a “self-contained” leisure suite. 

One Airbnb guest commented: “An amazing place to stay in a perfect location if you’re planning on doing anything in Manchester! Just a 20 minute walk or 5 minute Uber to the city centre. The house has everything you could ever need - the hot tub is fantastic, lots of mirrors for doing makeup, towels and extra furry blankets on every bed, hair dryer, iron - everything!”

Location: Holmes Chapel

Price: £145 per night

Rating: 4.98 stars 

This tiny house called Hawthorn Cottage is located just outside Greater Manchester, in the Cheshire town of Holmes Chapel, but it was too beautiful not to include in this line-up – especially because it has glowing reviews from previous guests. One Airbnb user commented: 5 stars isn’t enough! This place is better than expected! It’s honestly something out of a fairytale (I was expecting 7 little beds upstairs or 3 bowls of hot porridge in the kitchen)”

It is a grade II-listed ‘chocolate box’ cottage, which has original features, including low beamed ceilings, inglenook fireplace and cranked staircase. It still has all the mod cons though – including an outdoor hot tub.  

130ft classic yacht

Location: Salford Quays

Price: £530 oer night

Rating: 4.95 stars

All aboard the Jacamar , a 130ft yacht moored in the heart of Salford Quays, with MediaCity, Old Trafford and Quayside all on its doorstep (gangplank?). This unusual property has three bedrooms, five beds and three bathrooms and can house up to 10 guests. It has a full galley kitchen with Smeg appliances, as well as a dining room and snug with panoramic views out of the window. 

One previous guest commented: “We've just returned from an overnight stay on the Jacamar, and I wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend it! The boat is simply stunning and feels much larger than the pics seem to portray.”

Character townhouse

Price: £230 per night

This historic street will be familiar to anyone who has ever spent any time in the city centre. While most of Ancoats continues to evolve, this street and neighbouring Anita Street offer a rare insight into what the area looked like in Victorian times. It even has cobbled streets.  

It is available for a minimum five-night stay. The property has three floors, two large double bedrooms (one en-suite), one single room, two bathrooms plus a cloakroom toilet. One guest commented: “We had a lovely stay! The home was perfectly located - really close to the city centre but still nice and quiet. Beds were very comfy and the house had all the essentials needed for a weekend stay. Adam was also a really responsive host & happy to answer any questions.”

Grand Designs house

Location: Egerton, Bolton

Price: £60 per night.

Building a dream home is only ever a dream for most of us, and the closest we get is watching other people live that dream on Channel 4’s Grand Designs. But, luckily for us, one of the show’s participants has opened up their home to the public and is offering a bed and breakfast service on Airbnb. 

This house was featured on the show in 2016 and includes 360º views of the West Pennine Moors. Guests have access to the upstairs lounge and bedrooms, and the kitchen only by prior arrangement. 

One previous guest commented: "What a special home this was, the whole experience was lovely and I am looking forward to my next visit. Carol really is so welcoming and wanted to help us feel at home, my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be visiting again."

This is the "Sister Ship to "Ventura Boatel". It is a boat so more like a large Floating RV than a hotel! There is plenty of room to sleep and relax. The boat doesn't ever leave the dock. You will get to experience living on a boat, but since it is always attached to the dock you will never have to worry about sea sickness! It is less than 100 feet to all the action at Ventura Harbor Village and also to the beach. Ask about having brunch delivered to your Boatel, comedy show tickets, etc.

This ferrocement boat was made in Sweden in 1973. That’s right! It’s made of concrete! The boat circumnavigated the globe twice before eventually ending up here in sunny Sanford FL. We spent 2 years completely renovating everything and tried to leave as much of the boat’s original personality intact while adding modern amenities. Laundry facilities, showers and restrooms, diner, and marina store all on site, and downtown historic Sanford and river walk close by.
