Barrage Club, the island’s best loved club.

Barrage Club is inextricably linked to Zakynthos – it is a club whose reputation over the years has grown in tandem with the reputation of the island itself. Consequently, it is a very beloved place for the locals and is considered a “must visit” for tourists who come to Zakynthos Island for the first time.

Barrage club is located on the seafront, on the road that connects Zakynthos town to Argassi town ( this is the position on Google Map ). Completely renovated in 2019, the club boasts one of the most modern interiors of the island and two rooms: a large outdoor room in the splendid garden , well structured with two bars and balconies overlooking the garden full of plants and a wood pier. There are also various private areas with tables and sofas. To complete the beauty of this place, the play of lights creates a suggestive and fantastic atmosphere. The other room is indoor , smaller and equipped with two bars – in this room the most famous DJs usually perform.

The most famous and popular events on the island are organized at Barrage Club, including White Tuesday and the Elegant Party , organized respectively on Tuesdays and Fridays starting from mid-July. They are absolutely not to be missed !! BOOK HERE

The Barrage Club was inaugurated on July 17, 1991. A date we will never forget; a date when the entire nightlife of the island of Zakynthos changed. The nightclub has hosted many famous DJs from all over the world. How to reach Barrage Club:

Taxis cost around € 8 from Zakynthos town, € 18 from Laganas, € 18 from Tsilivi ( here you can find the taxi fares ). You can reach it on foot from the city of Zakynthos or from the town of Argassi in about 10-15 minutes; also in high season there is a shuttle from Laganas and Kalamaki (to be booked in advance at +306995806809). For those arriving by car or scooter , there is ample free parking in front of the Barrage.

Tickets at the entrance cost between € 15 and € 20 , depending on the event and the DJ. The price of the tables varies according to the events and the location.

How to book:

To have priority access , the entrance ticket can be purchased in advance in the BOOKING PLATFORM or when booking the shuttle from Laganas / Kalamaki by Texting on WhatsApp +306995393586. For table reservations or VIP area, we recommend a few days in advance due to the large turnout.

The Ionian Island of Zakynthos embodies a patchwork of landscapes divided between wild, unspoilt coastline and lively cosmopolitan towns. Zakynthos, otherwise known as Zakinthos, Zacinto or more commonly Zante, is the southernmost island of the beautiful Ionian archipelago and is unique in its three distinct zones. The northwestern part of the island is dotted with barren mountainous peaks while the centre is green and verdant, scattered with the blossoming flora that prompted the Venetians to give it its name “Fioro di Levante” (flower of the East). The historical Venetian ruling is also evident in the islands charming architecture, most notably the coastal capital city Zakinthos which is renowned for its collection of Byzantine buildings, museums and traditional piazzas such as Solomos Square.

The southern part of the island is known for its Mediterranean party atmosphere, indented with luxury resorts and long stretches of white sands lapped by the warm Ionian Sea. Kicking off in Easter and running through until the end of October, this coastline is a hotspot for visitors and yachts of all shapes and sizes, though it is still possible to find some quiet solitude amongst the hustle and bustle. The Vasilikós peninsula is home to some of the most beautiful countryside, beaches and seaside towns in Greece to include the stunning city of Yérakas which only being accessible by water, has long attracted superyachts in search of a few days escape.

It is impossible to talk about Zakynthos without mentioning its crowing glory, Shipwreck Cove or Navagio Beach. This pocket of ice-white sand surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and impossibly blue waters is iconic in its beauty and one of the most photographed beaches in the world. Inevitably this makes it a very popular with tourists so make sure to head there first thing in the morning or late-afternoon – perfect for a couple of hours sunbathing followed by sundowners in deck. The island is also home to the protected area of Laganás Bay, one of the world’s key breeding sites for the endangered Loggerhead Sea Turtle. If you’re lucky you might catch a glimpse of a hatchling taking its first tentative swim into the sea.

Nightlife Zakynthos: famous in the past for being the birthplace of the poet Ugo Foscolo, the island of Zakynthos is becoming in recent years one of the most popular destinations for young people, thanks to its crystal clear sea and its intense nightlife. Between boat parties, foam pool parties and unbridled fun, here's where to go out in the evening in Laganas and the other resorts of Zakynthos.

Even praised by the famous poet Ugo Foscolo, the island of Zakynthos is a natural paradise of exceptional beauty , capable of offering a perfect mix of beach life, nightlife, gastronomy, culture and relaxation. Also known as Zakynthos , the island is located near the Peloponnese and is part of the Ionian Islands archipelago.

With a pleasant warm and dry climate during the hold season, Zakynthos enchants its visitors with its splendid landscapes: between fine sandy beaches, including the famous shipwreck bay , natural beauties, small fishing villages, the island presents countless nuances and glimpses that will leave you amazed.

But the island is not only famous for its beautiful beaches. Together with Corfu , Zakynthos is certainly the best known of the Ionian islands for its crazy international nightlife , populated by thousands of young people from all over the world, especially from northern Europe. When night falls, the nightlife of Zante lights up in the many nightclubs and is the ideal destination for a holiday full of uninterrupted fun 24 hours a day!

Zakynthos nights turn into a big party, with lots of young people dancing in the numerous bars and discos that follow one after the other along the streets of the main tourist villages, among cocktails, loud music, boys and girls have fun without inhibitions. Fun in Zakynthos is always guaranteed!

Where to go out at night in Zakynthos

Zakynthos nightlife varies from area to area . For a peaceful evening, head to Zakynthos Town - glittering at night, it's perfect for a leisurely evening stroll and a summer cocktail. The cafes and bars here serve both tourists and locals and are really lovely places to relax on a summer evening. Here the nightlife is oriented towards more mature people, with numerous restaurants with typical cuisine that offer evenings with traditional music.

On the hill behind the town is the village of Bochali , where there are some exclusive bars and nightclubs and from which you can enjoy a lovely view of Zakynthos town and the sea. Even in the area of ​​Vassilikos , a few kilometers from the city of Zakynthos, there are some bars and some movement, even if it remains quite quiet.

For those looking for wild and crazy entertainment , the best areas are located in the southern part of the island in the towns of Laganas, Argasi, Tsilivi, Alykes, and Kalamaki. Here are the major tourist resorts frequented by the very young who come here to have fun from evening to dawn in the discos open until late at night.

Zante's nightlife mecca is Laganas . Located in the south of the island, this tourist town is famous among the very young for its discos, bars and pubs where you can spend crazy party nights . Nightlife in Laganas is concentrated almost exclusively along the main street ( "Main Road" ), about three kilometers long. These three kilometers of discos and nightclubs are literally overrun by English boys and girls who get drunk and party. The fun lasts all night and it is not uncommon to find yourself in the arms of someone or someone you just met.

Laganas is synonymous with fun in Zakynthos and is the most crowded, transgressive and fun area of ​​the island, so much so that it has earned the nickname of little "Las Vegas" . The discos always offer new evenings ranging from paint parties to masquerade parties, up to the popular foam parties, which are aimed at a very young audience (from 18 to 25 years). Nightclubs are open until 6 in the morning and almost always have free admission and cheap drink deals. The ideal destination to have fun on a budget.

A few kilometers from Laganas, the nearby resort of Kalamaki certainly offers much quieter evenings. There are a number of bars, restaurants, karaoke bars and entertainment shows, but there isn't the same clubbing culture as you find in Laganas. The same is true of the Alykes , located 18 kilometers north of Zakynthos town, where there are a few bars and nightclubs but much more relaxed than the discos of Laganas and there are fewer Brits.

Located just south of the city of Zakynthos, Argassi has a fairly lively and lively nightlife , with restaurants, taverns and bars scattered almost everywhere. Argassi's bars range from laid-back cocktail bars to livelier clubs, albeit much smaller than those in Laganas. For an alternative night out, try the mini-golf course, always very popular in the evening.

Located near a long sandy beach bathed by a crystal clear sea, Tsilivi also offers a lively nightlife , with theme parties, aperitifs at sunset, live music and many bars that stay open until late.

Finally, Agios Sostis , south of Laganas, is the ideal place for romantic walks while admiring the view of the gulf. The best known club is located on Cameo Island , reachable via a suggestive wooden bridge, where you can dance while admiring the extraordinary view and breathing in the atmosphere of this enchanting place.

Though there are a lot of different boat tours to choose from, in my opinion choosing from one of the private boat charters is the best way to truly appreciate the beauty of Zakynthos.

That’s because you’re in a small boat – and not completely crammed in with hundreds of other people (not fun) – plus you have more flexibility on the itinerary.

Porto Vromi: Cruise to Navagio, Turtle island & Keri Caves : This particular private cruise is a great example of how cool boat trips in Zante can be. It’s what I did with my group of friends and we loved it.

Leaving from Porto Vromi, this tour sees you exploring around the whole island, checking out Turtle Island, Keri Caves, and the famous Navagio Shipwreck Beach among other sights.

Along the way, you’ll also swing by hidden beaches and coves, which you can’t usually reach by land.

That means checking out Shipwreck Beach and the Blue Caves, to name a couple of spots, after leaving Porto Vromi.

Different types of Zante boat tours

Not every boat trip Zakynthos has to offer is the same.

In fact, there are a whole lot of different boat tours that you can join in Zante – some of them may be more your thing, while others may not be what you’re looking for.

Generally speaking, they can be divided into the area of the island that they explore (with differing itineraries between the regions), and the types of boats that go out (i.e. private vs. big boat tours).

Itinerary-wise, they can be separated into the following:

Half-day tours to North Zante

These go to Shipwreck Beach , Blue Caves , and some beaches in the north of the island, which you can usually only reach by sea.

Shipwreck Beach is particularly cool – it’s here that you’ll be able to see the rusting hulk of MV Panagiotis, a ship that ran aground in 1980 while (allegedly!) smuggling goods to Greece on behalf of the Italian mafia.

Whether that’s true or not, who knows, but it’s a dramatic sight and you can get some cool shots of the shipwreck against the white cliffs and bright blue sea.

The Blue Caves are also beautiful. Situated near the village of Volimes, they’re named because of the turquoise water reflecting on the white arches, giving the rocks a cool, eerie blue glow.

Half-day tours to South Zante 

Boat trips in South Zante head to Turtle Island, Keri Caves , and some lovely beaches in the area.

Turtle Island, known in Greek as Marathonisi (fennel island; named because fennel grew wild here), is located in Laganas Bay.

South Zante boat tours swing by here, stopping at the main sandy beach, and the cave-like shore on the opposite side.

Keri Caves are fun! Here among the various arches and sea caves the boat will stop at little beaches or shallow areas for you to swim and snorkel.

This is where I’d say a private tour is best, as you can be a bit more flexible with where you get to stop (or not).

Full-day full-island tours 

These comprehensive tours take in the whole of Zante, visiting all of the above.

While they are good if you’re short on time, and just want to hit up all the hot spots in one day, it’s not so good if you suffer from seasickness.

If that’s you, and you really don’t want to be at sea all day (and you’re in Zante long enough) then you could do two half-day trips on two separate days.

The other difference that you can choose between is the type of boat. Namely, these are:

Small private boat

Obviously, this is the more expensive option, but there are definite perks to this kind of Zakynthos boat tour. For a start, there’s more flexibility, as I’ve said before.

You can choose where you stop when you stop, and for how long.

It’s also great if you’re with your family or a group of friends, as you can hang out together, catch up, and chill, rather than getting overwhelmed by a boatload of people.

Small group tours 

These aren’t private tours, as you don’t hire the whole boat out, but since it’s a small group tour, it’s a bit more intimate.

It’s a good idea for solo travellers since you’ll be able to get to know your fellow passengers as you tour around. I’d also say it’s decent for couples as it’s a fun way to get around away from all the “romantic getaway” stuff.

Big boat tours 

These Zante boat trips are exactly what you imagine. One big boat, crammed with loads of people, and very chaotic.

If you’re here with a friend or two, this might be a fun option, and it’s definitely the most budget-friendly option, but it’s a lot to deal with. Not great if you don’t like crowds.

Best Zakynthos boat tours

Porto Vromi: Cruise to Navagio, Turtle island & Keri Caves

As I already said, this private Zante boat cruise around the whole island is great. It’s by far the best option for a group of friends who can afford to spend a bit more.

Basically, you get to see the whole island at your own pace, telling the captain where you want to go, skipping some stops if you don’t like them, and spending more time at the beaches you like. It’s perfect!

Exploring the Blue Caves of Zakynthos, Greece, during our private boat tour

Zakynthos: Turtle Island and Caves Private Boat Trip

You and a maximum of 5 other people can embark on this private boat trip to southern Zakynthos . Being a tour of the south of the island, you’ll hit up Turtle Island and Keri Caves, among other places.

The captain is great on this tour – he’ll make sure to explain about the marine reserve, the turtles, and the other stops you make along the way.

From Porto Vromi: Shipwreck Beach Private Boat Cruise

If you want to see the north of the island, i.e. the famous Shipwreck Beach and the majestic Blue Caves, this Zakynthos boat trip is a nice option.

It includes snorkel equipment in the price, so when you stop by the amazing glimmering coves along the way you’ll be able to explore the underwater world as well as the scenery above.

Porto Vromi: Navagio Shipwreck Beach & Blue Caves by Boat

Head to northern Zakynthos on a bigger boat as part of a shared tour. Leaving Porto Vromi, you’ll head to Shipwreck Beach to check out the remains of the MV Panagiotis.

This tour then includes 3 swimming stops, and the beach options on this particular Zante boat tour include the hidden beach of Sfogio and the stunning Porto Steniti beach.

It’s a pretty similar itinerary to the north Zakynthos private boat tour, with the difference that it will be in one of the bigger 50-passenger boats.

This shared group tour is a pretty good option. You’ll get to go to Turtle Island and Keri Cave, among other classic locations. Besides the boat trip, this tour will also take you to do a tasting of local products like olive oil!

It’s done with a glass-bottomed boat, which some people like, as it gives you the opportunity to see the seabed, marine life and the famous caretta caretta turtles.

Personally I don’t love it, as the glass bottom tends to get quite dirty, and it’s common for these tours to harass the sea turtles by cruising directly above them.

The good thing about this particular Zante boat trip is that that, as well as travelling by sea on a 3-hour boat tour, you’ll also do some land travel by minibus.

That means you’ll be able to see the Navagio Beach from the clifftop viewpoint.

This is particularly good for those who don’t have long in Zakynthos, as it’s a pretty comprehensive tour and you see quite a lot in one day. On the other hand, expect big groups, a certain amount of chaos and a tight schedule!

What to pack for your Zante boat trips

You don’t really need much besides your usual beach essentials to go on a boat trip in Zante, but I listed below a few essentials anyway, just to make sure you don’t forget.

Power bank – you don’t want your phone to run out of battery while you’re taking photos of the beautiful turquoise water of Zante!

Waterproof phone pouch – Boats usually have dry area, but it’s always a good idea to put your phone in a waterproof pouch, so that you can have it on your for photos, without risking it getting wet!

Fast-drying towel – These towels are great for boat trips since they take up little space and dry quickly.

Stainless steel water bottle – save money and reduce plastic consumption by bringing your own water bottle and refilling it.

Sunscreen – You’ll be out on the water and under the sun all day, you don’t want to ruin your trip by getting sunburnt.

The ferry ride is only 1 hour so the perfect time to grab a coffee and watch the disappearing coastline of Zakynthos. 

Stops on this whole-day tour include:

• The monastery of St. Gerassimos is situated at the base of Mount Ainos.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
