Superyacht Black Diamond for sale at Sunseeker London

Harry Bristow-Holmes, Brokerage Director at Sunseeker London, sends word that he's signed the 28m superyacht Black Diamond for sale.

Built by Sunseeker International in 2010, this Predator 92 has a sleek and sporty exterior topped by a flybridge. She delivers on her high-performance looks by reaching up to 42 knots thanks to her twin MTU 2,640hp engines.

Inside she's clearly a big boat with a vast saloon running through on a single level to the race-style helm station. Her guest accommodation is below with a full-beam master suite aft, VIP guest

stateroom forward and two mid-ship twin guest cabins. All four cabins are en suite. The galley and crew quarters are accessed from an aft stairway within the saloon. Her unusual grey superstructure is complemented by a unique modern Armani Casa interior, setting her apart from other Predator 92s on the market.

Lying in Poole, Dorset, Black Diamond is asking £3,250,000.

MTI’s Second 340X Cat, Black Diamond Express, Wows the Crowd in Fort Lauderdale

There aren’t many more well-known or well-traveled  MTI  catamarans in the country than  Black Diamond , the all-black canopied 52-foot MTI . So when the Wentzville, Mo., company showed off  Black Diamond Express , the 52-footer’s baby brother, at the  Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show , the 340X from MTI drew a ton of attention during the first two days of the boat show.

The second 340X catamaran from MTI—the first one made its debut at the end of August ( read the story )—was built for Oklahoma’s Derek Wachob and is powered by a pair of Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines. According to Randy Scism, the owner and founder of MTI, Black Diamond Express will be participating in next week’s Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run from Miami to Key West.

“It is going to be Black Diamond’s chase boat,” Scism said with a laugh. “Seriously, I think it is going to be cool to see both Black Diamond boats together. I have a feeling Derek is going to love his ‘little’ boat.

“Everyone who has seen the boat so far loves it,” Scism continued, adding that he was eagerly anticipating the arrival of Wachob, who had yet to see the 34-footer on Friday afternoon. “It’s definitely different than our first one—they’re both gorgeous but in different ways. I can’t wait to see what kind of response the boat gets in Key West.”

Over the last few years, MTI has worked with several customers to build one of its MTI-V 42 luxury center consoles to match their high-performance catamaran. And while Black Diamond Express is the first 34-foot cat designed to match an owner’s larger boat, based on the finished product and the reaction to the boat, it won’t be the last time MTI builds a complementary 340X.

Black Diamond Cuts a Race-Ready Profile

The 42-foot Reichel Pugh “ Black Diamond ” (formerly “ Black Jack Too ”) has spent an intensive week at The Boat Works undergoing refit and repairs ahead of the summer season of sailing, followed by a full program of competition throughout 2020.

Under new owner, Glenn Burrell and Boat Captain, Lee Randall from Deepwater Collective, the revived and raring-to-go-Champion yacht will campaign in all Southport Yacht Club Offshore races, starting with 2020 Batercard Sail Paradise which commences 2 January.

In 2020, Black Diamond plans to compete in the Sydney to Gold Coast Yacht Race and Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race, followed by Hamilton Island in August 2020.

The yacht has already experienced success, clean sweeping the 2019 Flat Rock Race and improving her performances with her all-local crew which includes rising talent and high profile cameos from seasoned sailors such as Ben Kelly (North Sails), Mark Bradford (North Sails/Black Jack) and Chris Anderson (Rope Solutions).

Gold Coast-based owner, Glenn Burrell, chose The Boat Works for its proximity to Southport Yacht Club and concentration of marine professionals all on one site.

“Despite having a draft of 2.85 metres, we didn’t have any issue going up or down the Coomera River. The Boat Works’ proximity to Southport made it an easy, enjoyable voyage up and down the River,” said Glenn.

“It was great to be able to have access to so many different trades in the one place. This allowed us to get many different jobs completed with minimal time out of the water.”

The Boat Works caters to all vessels from the runabout through to superyachts with diverse haul out options from the 70t to the 100 tonne Travel lift that features an extended forebeam to accommodate yachts of all sizes without the need to de-mast or de-rig. 

Then there’s the hydraulic submersible Sealift, ideal for wide-beam catamarans, offering maximum cushioning and support.

2020, will bring way to the Gold Coast’s largest lift, the 300 tonne Marine Travel Lift. She’s commissioned and ready to commence hauling out into the expanded boatyard facility for the new year.

The Boat Works is home to Australia’s largest concentration of marine trades, some 60+ specialist businesses, project managers and suppliers.

During the manic pre-Christmas period, on-site trades collaborated to get Black Diamond through her list of repairs in record time: out of water on the Monday and back in by Friday.

Works comprised three coats of VC Offshore racing Antifoul as well as prop speed application and some minor repairs to hull undertaken by the experts at Ocean Degree Yacht Services ; hull graphics and additional diamond transfers created and applied by Print Image Signs ; service of the Lombardini Diesel engine by the marine mechanics at Transmarine Asia Pacific; exterior wash and polish, interior clean and steam clean cushions, boom polish and sika wipe of bowsprit by the team at Sea Spray Marine and minor repairs and touch ups as well as installation of a new head by Deepwater Collective .

In her fresh, new livery, Black Diamond is now ready to contest the Gold Coast IRC Titles at 2020 Bartercard Sail Paradise, 2 to 5 January.  

“In 2020 we intend to compete in most East Coast Ocean Yacht Races such as The Surf to City on 1 February, The Sydney to Gold Coast starting 25 July, followed by the Brisbane to Keppel Race 31 July,” added Glenn. 

“Then it’s on to Hamilton Island for Race Week in August. As well as these major races, we will also be competing in Southport yacht Club Offshore and Twilight races throughout the year.”

Harvey Gulf International Marine

Mr. Guidry is the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer for HGIM Corp. Mr. Guidry is the third generation in his family to lead Harvey Gulf. Mr. Guidry has been with Harvey Gulf for over 30 years and has been the Chief Executive Officer for the company since 1997. Since taking over as CEO, Mr. Guidry has transformed Harvey Gulf from an inland and offshore towing vessel operator to the preferred provider of OSV, MPSV and FSV services in the deepwater and ultra-deepwater offshore oil and gas industry in the Gulf of Mexico. This has included, among other innovations, leading the company to become the first owner and operator of LNG-powered OSV’s in the United States, as well as the first operator of a LNG bunkering facility in the U.S. Mr. Guidry is intimately involved in the day-to-day operations of the company including business development, M&A activity, client management, vessel design and sales and marketing.

Mr. Burns brings over 35 years of management and operational experience in the marine and energy industries. Most recently he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Ensco plc from 2012 to his retirement in December 2015. During his years of service with Ensco, Mr. Burns also served as Senior Vice President – Western Hemisphere and as President of Ensco Offshore International Company, a subsidiary of Ensco. Prior to joining Ensco, Mr. Burns served twenty-five years with Noble Corporation. During his career with Noble, Mr. Burns held increasing levels of responsibility and managed both US Gulf of Mexico and UK North Sea operations. In 2007, Mr. Burns was named IADC (International Association of Drilling Contractors) Contractor of the Year. Mr. Burns holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Sam Houston State University.

Peter Frank

Mr. Frank contributes extensive investment banking and financial experience to the company. He is a Senior Managing Director on the Black Diamond Private Equity Team. Prior to joining Black Diamond, Mr. Frank was President of GSC Group, where he worked since 2001. From 2005 until 2008, he served as the Senior Operating Executive for GSC’s Recovery Funds. In addition, Mr. Frank was a member of the investment committees for Recovery Funds, U.S. Corporate Debt, European Corporate Debt and European Mezzanine Funds. Prior to 2001, Mr. Frank was the CEO of Ten Hoeve Bros., Inc. and was an investment banker at Goldman, Sachs & Co. Mr. Frank graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.S.E.E. degree and earned an M.B.A from the Harvard Business School.

Steve Orlando

Mr. Orlando founded the Allison Marine Group (Allison) in 1995. The company began as a marine outfitting and repair company on the Intracoastal waterway in Amelia, Louisiana., Allison transformed to become a leader in the fabrication, transportation and installation of Offshore Oil and Gas productions facilities in the Gulf of Mexico and Malaysia. The expanded group covered every need for oil and gas operators from the wellhead to the pipeline. In 2000, Allison Marine Fourchon was founded to fill a critical need in Fourchon with the installation of the 500-ton crane, “The Grua Grande” for Heavy Lift and marshaling services in support of Deepwater Development projects in the Gulf of Mexico. JAB Energy Solutions was later formed to provide Oil and Gas operators fixed priced well P & A, decommissioning and removal of offshore platforms. Under this platform, Mr. Orlando bought the intellectual property of Tarpon Systems (a marginal field development structure) in 2004 to fill a need in Malaysia. Orlando sold to the NYC based private equity firm, Lincolnshire Management and is still involved under Allison Marine Holdings. In addition to serving on the Harvey Gulf International Marine board, Mr. Orlando is a partner and board member of the successful startup, Wellbore Fishing and Rental Tools.

Ronald C. Wilson

Ronald C. Wilson is a proven leader with 34 years of experience in public education. He served as CEO of three Michigan school districts managing multimillion dollar budgets and large-scale commercial construction projects. In 2019, Mr. Wilson was recognized for his work in energy conservation receiving the Large Commercial Project of the Year award from Consumers Energy.

Since his retirement in July of 2021, Wilson has worked as a consultant and analyst for a data analytics firm serving clients in six states. Wilson holds a Specialty Endorsement from the Michigan Department of Education, Master of Science in Educational Administration, and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from Central Michigan University.

The Daily Interviews New Black Diamond President Neil Fiske

Black Diamond Equipment named Neil Fiske brand president on Thursday. Fiske, most recently CEO of licensing company Marquee Brands, talks to The Daily about the growth opportunities he sees ahead.

The parent company of Black Diamond Equipment announced Thursday that it has appointed Neil Fiske brand president.

Fiske most recently served as CEO of Marquee Brands, a licensing company that owns brands such Dakine, Body Glove, Martha Stewart, Sur La Table, and several others. He has also led Billabong International, Eddie Bauer, and Gap over the years.

In an interview with The Daily , Neil, who grew up in Colorado, said the job appealed to him because it marries his passion for the outdoors with his love of brand building.

“Black Diamond is literally, by its name, a jewel of a brand,” Fiske said. “It has always been an innovator. The brand’s DNA is very much embedded in that endemic space and has stayed true to being the best at what they do. Not necessarily the biggest, but the best, and that matters a lot to me, particularly in categories that are also passions of mine like climbing, skiing, and hiking.”

Getting back to leading all aspects of a brand also appealed to Fiske after most recently leading a company focused on licensing.

“Licensing is a great model, and it makes good economic sense in a lot of ways.  But there’s something about giving up control of your brands – that’s tricky and you have to manage it very carefully,” Fiske said. “I think we did. But it’s not as much fun for me as running a brand in its entirety.”

“So really it was combination of getting back into the outdoor active space, focusing on a great brand that I think could double or triple in size, and being able to run the totality of the brand, from brand positioning to product to global channel expansion,” he added.

Fiske previewed what could be ahead for Black Diamond.

“We’ll stay true to the roots and the heritage, but we’ll modernize the brand and we’ll bring it forward,” he said. “There are categories that we can expand into, like apparel and footwear, that are logical extensions of the sports that we serve. And then there are geographies in Europe where Black Diamond has high brand recognition but that are still very underdeveloped.”

Black Diamond is owned by the publicly traded Clarus Corporation .

“We are thrilled to have someone of Neil’s experience and talent leading Black Diamond, a brand we believe has tremendous growth potential globally,” Clarus Executive Chairman Warren Kanders said in a statement. “Neil fully appreciates the brand’s 50-year heritage, its culture, and core values, but also the need to modernize and look forward. Black Diamond of Durham was commissioned in 1972 for her original owner, Lt Cdr Lewis RN, who fitted her out to his own specification and raced her on the south coast.

In the early 1990’s, Black Diamond was purchased by the Faramir Trust who stripped and refitted her for sail training. She was used in the North East of England for sail training, offering a sailing experience to young people from a disadvantaged background. Black Diamond has not missed a Tall Ships’ Race since then.

Purchased by Sailing North East in 1999, she has been refitted again for a different type of client – Corporate Entertainment and Teambuilding along with normal sail training.

Black Diamond is well known on the North East Coast again and, along with The Tall Ships’ Races, often visits Norway, Germany and Holland.

The owner of a $3.4 million Lamborghini yacht screamed 'I will kill you' and threw $100 bills into the water when told he couldn't use a private dock

• The owner of a Lamborghini yacht threatened a private dock employee, per CBS8.
• The employee said Ajay Thakore mooned and threw cash at him after being told he couldn't use the dock.
• Thakore, the CEO of Doctor Multimedia, issued an apology through his public relations team.

The owner of a $3.4 million Lamborghini yacht threatened a private dock employee after being told he couldn't be there, the San Diego-based broadcaster CBS8 reported on March 11.

Joseph Holt, a 21-year-old employee at Marriot Marina in San Diego, told CBS8 that he spotted the yacht sailing into the private dock. The owner, whom CBS8 identified as Ajay Thakore, tried to pick another person up at the dock, Holt said.

"I told him respectfully that he couldn't be there, and I honestly was hoping to have a conversation with him about his cool boat," Holt told CBS8.

In a YouTube video posted by @SM-wc9eq on March 10, a dark blue Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 is seen sailing out of a dock. A man in a gray T-shirt, a pair of jeans, and a cap was shown standing on the yacht. The man appeared to be Thakore, per CBS8.

Thakore was shown shouting at Holt. "I will kill you, you know I will kill you!" he can be heard saying multiple times in the video

Thakore was later shown pounding his fist on his palm and pointing his thumb down before telling Holt: "To your face!" Holt was shown responding by pointing his middle finger at Thakore.

"I really was trying to restrain myself from getting fired from my job or stepping out of line. The only thing I did was give him the bird," Holt told CBS8.

Holt said Thakore then took $100 bills from his wallet and threw them at him. He added that Thakore mooned him. This exchange was not shown in the video.

"He was saying I'm nobody, I'm nothing, I work a silly job. He said that he knows people, he has connections, he can change my life and ruin it," Holt said. Holt did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

The San Diego Harbor Police arrived at the marina 10 minutes after Thakore's yacht exited the dock, per CBS8. The Harbor Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.

According to Thakore's LinkedIn page , he's the CEO of Doctor Multimedia. The company's website shows that it's a healthcare marketing firm based in San Diego. Thakore appears to go by the name Ace Rogers on Instagram and TikTok, where he's noted as being a professional gambler.

Thakore, through his public relations team, told CBS8 in a statement that his altercation with Holt was "regrettable."

"What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange," the statement said. Thakore did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.

Thakore isn't the only CEO who's been called out for threatening another person. In November 2021, an Activision spokesperson told BI that its ex-CEO Bobby Kotick had previously apologized for telling his assistant he would have her killed. The spokesperson added that Kotick's threat was "obviously hyperbolic and inappropriate" and that "he deeply regrets the exaggeration and tone."

In June 2020, Lisa Alexander, the CEO of LaFace Skincare, a cosmetics company, apologized in a statement to the media after she had threatened to call the police on her neighbor for writing "Black Lives Matter" on his property. Alexander said in the apology that she was "disrespectful" and "should have minded my own business."

In 2015 Moscow will see a wide range of new capital transportation facilities, and their design is just as important. We asked four jury members of the recent design competition for metro stations Solntsevo and Novoperedelkino to tell us more about this aspect.

Erken Kagarov, Vice President of The Academy of the Graphic Design, art director of “Art. Lebedev Studio”:

“Being a designer, first of all I did my best to evaluate the visual aspect of the offered solutions. Besides that it was important for me to see something new and original. Otherwise, why bother organizing a competition?

As for the results of the contest, I am under the impression that we tried to get everything at once, and that was a mistake. The winning projects are quite expressive and not too expensive. Unfortunately, they are not at all ground-breaking. If we take a look at the history of Moscow metro and the work of one of its best creators, Alexey Dushkin, we’ll see that he was constantly inventing and reinventing certain techniques and materials: he was the first one to use stainless steel to decorate Mayakovskaya, he came up with the idea of columns lit from below for Kropotkinskaya, he put up stained-glass panels underground, where the sun doesn’t ever shine, on Novokuznetskaya......
