Guests enjoy swimming, relaxing, and socializing with friends on the island and kids of all ages love the huge waterslide (weekends only)! Things to Keep in Mind:

• Per Federal US Coast Guard Regulations, maximum 13 passengers allowed. No exceptions will be made.
• The Yacht has surround system throughout, you can stream your favorite playlist from your i- phone.
• This vessel comes with life jackets, emergency and first aid kits. If you have known allergies or medical requirements, please bring medication in the event of an emergency.
• Your day begins at the time stated in your signed Charter Agreement. If you are late to the dock, we will not adjust the duration of the trip, we must follow the Charter Agreement.
• Children are allowed on board and are counted as a passenger.
• Shoes must be removed before entering the yacht. Barefoot or socks but no shoes allowed.
• We require 50% down to secure the date and the balance is due 20 days prior to your trip.

What Not to Bring:

• Chocolate of any kind.
• Confetti cannons or glitter of any kind are prohibited.
• Smoking is not allowed, vaping only.
• Spray sunscreen is not allowed. Lotion only.
• Shoes must be removed before entering the yacht.
• Parking is very limited at the marina, please plan accordingly. Only 2 vehicles allowed.

Have you been on any of Yacht Starship’s dinner cruises? If so, you already know the cruises with them are a good time. The Rock the Yacht party cruise is no exception! From now until September 1st, you’ll have the chance to spend your Saturday night aboard the premiere party cruise in the Tampa Bay area. The cruise will last for two and a half hours and is already available to book now!

What you’ll get

The party starts with 30 minutes spent dockside before boarding the cruise. While you’re on the ship, you’ll have the chance to enjoy entertainment on multiple different decks. Each week, there will be a band performing live music of varying genres, from country to latin to rock and more! You can look up which bands are performing each week here and book your cruise based on what musical style you like best. Besides live music, there will also be a cash bar with a variety of drink options, including some great cocktails. During the cruise, you’ll also have a fantastic view of Tampa lit up at night.

The Details

Bookings for this party cruise experience are currently open for a $35 general admission price that includes the 30 minutes dockside, two and a half hour cruise, cash bar, and bagged snacks available for purchase. For the $55 VIP price, you’ll get all that plus VIP red carpet boarding with minimal lines as well as two premium cocktails, access to private VIP areas and a dedicated cocktail server. There is no reserved seating on these party cruises and they will run rain or shine!

• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is confirmed more than 7 days in advance, a deposit of either $1,000 USD or 50% of the total cost of the reservation (whichever is greater) is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 7 days away, the remainder of the amount due is processed.
• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is made 7 days or less in advance, the total price of your reservation is processed immediately.
• If you are booking for a multi-day charter and your reservation is confirmed more than 30 days in advance, a deposit of 50% of the cost of the yacht is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 30 days away, the other 50% is collected for the price of the yacht, plus the APA, plus the taxes due.

Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

More than 40 back-to-school events happening around Tampa Bay

School is out and the kids are playing, but back-to-school events are already starting. Free school physicals are taking place this month, and other events are quickly approaching. Here’s a list of school supply giveaways, tax-free shopping days and other ways to get ready to head back to the classroom.

Pinellas No-Cost Summer Clinic Screenings: The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County is again offering its annual summer Back to School clinic services to students in kindergarten through 12th grade to prepare for the 2024-25 school year. Services will be provided at no cost by appointment only. Appointments are available Monday through Thursday on select dates between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. through Aug. 8. For appointments, call 727-824-6900 and choose option 4. Free. Boca Ciega High School, 924 58th St. S., Gulfport. Also available at Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg and Pinellas Park High School.

School Entry and College Physicals Pasco County: The Florida Department of Health in Pasco County will conduct free basic school physicals for school entry and college. Physicals include height, weight, vision, hearing, health, history and a physical exam. Labs and immunizations are available for a fee. For an appointment, call 727-619-0300. Back-2-School Health Clinics: These clinics provide essential services including routine immunizations, school physicals and assistance with updating immunization records to Florida Form DH-680. Fireworks and festivities: 4th of July celebrations across Tampa Bay

TAMPA, Fla. — Pyrotechnics are planned to dance across the night sky as the 4th of July approaches on Thursday. July 4, or Independence Day, commemorates the Declaration of Independence , which was ratified by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, establishing the United States of America. It has been a federal holiday since 1941, but celebrations have gone back to the 18th century.

Tampa Bay has a list of festivities to get residents and visitors into the patriotic spirit. View the events that are happening in your community.

All events take place on July 4 unless otherwise stated.  

Citrus County

• Patriotic Evening July 3, 3 p.m. | Liberty Park The city of Inverness will be hosting its annual fireworks show over Lake Henderson. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs during the viewing. There will be live music, vendors and plenty of family-friendly activities.
• 4 th of July Celebration 5 p.m. | Kings Bay Park Join the city of Crystal River for a 4th of July celebration. Enjoy live music, food trucks, vendors, games, kids' activities and a fireworks show over Kings Bay.

Hernando County

• 4 th of July Heroes Boat Parade 11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. | Hernando Beach Yacht Club The 3rd annual Heroes Boat Parade is a community celebration that honors veterans and raises funds for the Florida Veterans Foundation . There will be a silent auction as well as live music.
• Hernando County Fairgrounds Stars and Cars Demo Derby and Fireworks 4 p.m. | Hernando County Fairgrounds Get ready for a day of family fun activities, including a demolition derby and a firework show. There is no admission fee to enjoy the activities and see the fireworks, but a separate ticket must be purchased to see the derby.
• American Legion Post 155 Escape the Fireworks 6 p.m. – 12 p.m. | American Legion Post 155 Celebrate the country's birthday without the booms and flashes of the fireworks. This event is designed for veterans with PTSD, but all are welcome to enjoy an evening of fun and food.

Hillsborough County

• Boom by the Bay 4 p.m. | Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park The city of Tampa’s annual 4 th of July celebration will feature a free concert, pickleball tournament, food trucks and fireworks.
• July 4 Boat Parade 4 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. | Sparkman Wharf Boats will be decorated in red, white and blue and compete for the most patriotic boat. There will also be a water ski show and fireworks.
• 4 th of July Celebration June 30 – July 4 | Busch Gardens Tampa Bay Enjoy five days of Independence Day festivities at Busch Gardens, featuring complimentary beer samples, live performances and a fireworks show choreographed with an arrangement of music and lights.
• Catch the Spirit & Celebrate America: July 4 th Festival 1 p.m. – 9 p.m. | Hillsborough County Fairgrounds Get ready for an day filled with food, contests and live entertainment, culminating in a patriotic drone show after sunset. Admission to the event is free with a $10 parking fee per vehicle.

Manatee County

• 4th of July Fireworks & Independence Day Buffet 7 p.m. | PIER 22 Enjoy an Independence Day buffet while viewing fireworks at this waterside terrace. Table reservations and tickets are required for access to the pier.
• 4 th of July Fireworks on the Manatee River 9:30 p.m. – 10 p.m. | Manatee River View a 4th of July fireworks display over the Manatee River. Guests can enjoy sights from both the Palmetto and Bradenton sides of the river.
• Palmetto Fourth Fest 5 p.m. | Riverside Park The celebration includes live music, food and family fun all evening long. The fireworks show will start at Green Bridge Pier.
• Bradenton Alive Independence Day Celebration 3 p.m. – 9 p.m.| Bradenton Riverwalk Pavilion The city of Bradenton is hosting its own 4 th of July celebrations featuring live music, food vendors and a Jeep meet at Bradenton Riverwalk.

Pasco County

• Family Fun: 4 th of July Celebration 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. | KRATE at the Grove Enjoy a variety of games and live music from the Highway 41 Band.
• Star Spangled Skate 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. | AdventHealth Center Ice Pricing is $17.76 per person with skates included.
• 4 th of July 4 p.m. | The Commons at Trinity This event will feature food trucks, a farmers’ market live music from local bands and fireworks.

Pinellas County

• The Fourth 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. | St. Pete Pier The city of St. Petersburg’s annual fireworks show returns with live performances, vendors, food trucks and a family fun zone. Fireworks will be visible from the entire downtown waterfront.
• Clearwater Celebrates America 2024 5 p.m. – 11 p.m. | Coachman Park There will be a free, patriotic performance at The BayCare Sound. No tickets are needed and seating is first-come, first served. Guests can also enjoy local vendors, food trucks, family friendly activities and live music.
• Fireworks Over the Gulf 9 p.m. | Treasure Island Beach Celebrate America by watching fireworks light up the sky over Treasure Island Beach. The best viewing areas will be near the Gulf Front Park area of the beach located at 10400 Gulf Blvd. Bring a beach chair or towel and enjoy the show.
• 4 th of July Parade & Celebration 9 a.m. | Old Time Pottery Join Kenneth City Mayor Megan Zemaitis and Healing Pinellas for a day of food, live music, vendors and more. The parade starts at 66th Street North and 46th Avenue North, then through downtown to Ernst Park, located at 46th Avenue North and 58th Street North.
• 4th of July Picnic in Craig Park 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. | Craig Park Bring the family to enjoy live music, a water slide, paddle boarding, inflatables, lawn games and free hot dogs. Stay later for the firework show after sunset.
• The City of Gulfport's 4th of July Celebration 8 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. | Downtown Waterfront District The day will start with the Gulfport Marina’s Fishing Derby at the Michael J. Yakes Recreation Complex  from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. There will also be a free sand sculputure contest from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Gulfport's Municipal Beach .  The Independence Day Parade starts at 6 p.m. with a fireworks show at Williams Pier at 9 p.m.   

Polk County

• Red, White & Kaboom! July 3, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. | Lake Mirror – Frances Langford Promenade Live performers will entertain the crowd before a fireworks display launches at 9 p.m. Officials ask for guests to bring canned food items to donate to those in need. All non-perishable items benefit Volunteers in Service to the Elderly (VISTE) .
• Rockin’ Freedom Fest July 3, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. | Martin Luther King Jr. Park This celebration includes food, a water ski show, and fireworks. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
• Legoland’s Red, White & Boom 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. | Legoland Florida Get in the patriotic spirit with special activities, a DJ dance party, and a firework display with Lego bricks illuminating the sky through special 3D viewing glasses.
• Rockin’ the Ridge 3 p.m. | Lake Wailes Trail The event will feature an assortment of activities, including a glow-in-the-dark foam party, inflatables, food and retail vendors, train rides, live entertainment, face painting, and a firework show.
• Auburndale 4 th of July Fireworks Display 9 p.m. – 10 p.m. | Lake Ariana Bring the family out to view a fireworks display across Lake Ariana.

The Fergus Ark is part of Wilmington history, but The Boat is a legend in Florida, too

It's a common refrain among longtime Wilmingtonians: There's no point moving away, because Wilmington always drags you back in.

Exceptions to the rule exist, of course, a notable one being the triple-decked, concrete-hulled, 10,000-square-foot boat that once housed a floating restaurant called The Fergus Ark. Moored in the Cape Fear River at the foot of Water and Princess streets from 1952 until it closed in 1965, The Ark was known for serving up fresh seafood and for having one of the first buffet-style services (they called it a "smorgasbord") in Wilmington.

The Ark's main claim to fame, however, was getting hit by the Battleship North Carolina in 1961 when the Battleship was being moved upriver to its current location on Eagles Island. According to a 2019 story in Our State magazine , the Ark's owner, Eldridge Fergus, who was on board when the floating restaurant was hit, causing minor damage, sued the N.C. Battleship Commission for $25,000.

He eventually settled for $3,000, even though some had accused Fergus of moving the Ark to a position where it was in danger of being hit, a charge Fergus denied.

The restaurant later re-opened, but it closed for good in 1965. The Ark left Wilmington in 1966 and hasn't been heard from since.

Well, except for the part about how The Ark started a whole new life in Florida, became a local landmark and celebrated its 100th birthday last year in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where it's known as "The Boat" and is a venerated part of the community.

Last year, the Northwest Florida Daily News did a big photo feature on the 150-foot-long boat's 100th birthday, a follow-up to a previous story the paper had done in 2018.

Its current owner is Jim Tucker, a former Fort Walton Beach businessman and city councilman, who bought it in 1978 and now lives on it.

In 2019, Tucker, who's 90, told The Navy Times that he plans to be entombed on the boat when he dies. It was just the latest twist in the long life of a craft that has seen its share of odd tales and adventures over the years.

Maritime history

Built in 1921 in Wilmington at the old Newport Shipbuilding Co., the boat was launched in September of 1922 as a U.S. Army vessel, used to transport troops between Wilmington and Fort Caswell in Brunswick County.

After passing into private hands in the late 1920s it became a literal banana boat, running between Florida and Venezuela to transport fruit. In the 1930s it spent time in Biscayne Bay, Florida, near Miami, as a gambling boat.

By 1941 the boat was back in Wilmington under the flag of the U.S. Coast Guard, where it was used as housing, and it later served as an office for the U.S. Maritime Commission, a government agency that was disbanded in 1950.

Fergus bought the boat in 1951 and had it until 1966, when the boat was moved to make room for a Coast Guard wharf on the Cape Fear.

According to the 2018 story in the NW Florida Daily News, the boat then made its way to Tampa, where it once again served as a floating restaurant under a couple of different owners.

In 1974, a developer named A.P. Qualls bought the boat and moved it to Fort Walton Beach, where he turned it into another restaurant called The Landing. That was the first time the boat's current owner, and resident, Jim Tucker, laid eyes on it.

Tucker bought it in 1978, re-christened it "The Boat" and moved it about a mile to its present location in Santa Rosa Sound next to St. Simon's Episcopal Church. There, it's become a prominent part of the landscape of Fort Walton Beach.

"Actually, I didn't buy it," Tucker said. "I traded for it."

The boat has no steering mechanism, so Tucker had it towed to its current location by a tugboat. When he needed to move it a little bit after the tug had left, Tucker said, he was able to use a johnboat and a 9-horsepower engine.

Tucker once owned the marina next door and used The Boat as his office.

"I used to party in my younger years," Tucker added, and he often used The Boat for entertaining as well.

A few years ago, Tucker said, his wife died, and "I didn't need a house anymore." After an operation reduced his mobility, making it difficult for him to navigate stairs, he thought The Boat would be as good a place as any to be.

Tucker currently lives there with a full-time caregiver named Joyce, who also has an apartment on The Boat.

"You won't find many 90-year-old men as happy or as lucky as I am," he said.

Tucker plans to be on board permanently. Over the years he's told multiple media outlets he wanted to be entombed inside a body bag in the hull of The Boat once he dies, "But they tell me it's not legal in the state of Florida."

Now he plans on being cremated once he passes, with his remains and some memorabilia placed and sealed in the tomb.

In 2018, Tucker told the Northwest Florida Daily News that he bought The Boat for "the novelty of it. It's just one of a kind. There are other concrete ships, but none of this vintage or type."

It's got hookups for water, sewer and power, and if anything, he said, "The hull keeps getting stronger because the barnacles build onto it." As for upkeep, "I keep a good roof on it" and replaces wood as it goes bad.

Tucker said he plans to leave the boat to his daughter, who's in her 50s, when he dies.

"She's going to have to figure out what to do with it," Tucker said. "I'd like it to stay in the family as long as they'd like to have it."

And while it's unlikely the concrete hull of The Boat that used to be an Ark ever sees the shores of the Cape Fear River again, well, stranger things have happened.

Should his daughter decide she doesn't want it, "I'd love to give it to the people of Wilmington if they want it," Tucker said. "That would be a nice end to this story."
