Most people have heard of the ‘famous' Greek islands such as Crete and Santorini . Whilst you can still visit these on a gulet cruise of Greece, there are 5998 other Greek islands to choose from!

Perhaps visiting the island of Patmos might appeal, as might Kos or Nisyros.

There are a seemingly endless list of possibilities, although these top cruising itineraries in Greece are a good place to start.

If I were to choose 3 gulet cruises in Greece that most appeal to me, they would be the following:

The Cycladic Islands

Arguably the most well known of the Greek island groups, when most people have a picture of a ‘Greek island' in their heads, it's probably one of the Cycladic islands.

Crystal blue clear waters, a deceptively simple architecture, and great beaches… what more could anyone want!

If I had the choice, my ideal Gulet cruise itinerary would include Mykonos , Delos, Paros, Ios, Santorini ,  Schinoussa , Naxos and Rineia.

The Ionian Islands

I've already visited a few of the Ionian islands which are situated on the west coast of Greece, but it wouldn't stop me going back for more!

I've always meant to return to Kefalonia after my time spent there a few years ago grape picking , and in my opinion the island of Lefkada has some of the best beaches in Greece!

A great gulet sailing itinerary for the Ionian islands in Greece would be something along the lines of starting in Messolongi, and then sailing to Kefalonia, Ithaca , Lefkada, Meganisi and Mitikas, Kalamos and Kastos, and  Zakynthos .

The South Dodecanese

Although I've visited Rhodes in the South Dodecanese, there's plenty of other Greek islands there I have yet to experience!

The idea of spending a couple of weeks sailing between them is very appealing, especially if the route was something like Kos, Nisyros, Tilos,  Symi , Rhodes.

If not this summer, then maybe next summer!

Sailing between the Greek islands is a great way to see a lot of the country in a short amount of time. The islands are all very different, so you get a good variety of landscapes and cultures to experience. Gulet cruises are also a very relaxing way to travel – perfect if you want to take it easy on your holidays!

Discovering Greece's West coast: here, like so many gleaming emeralds, we will find, on board our gulet, the magical Ionian islands, seven main islands and many other smaller ones, including Sivota, Paxos, Kassiopi and the beautiful Corfu. A mix of paradisiacal beaches, crystal clear waters and hidden bays will make you fall in love with the enchanting Ionian pearls very soon, while the hospitality of the crew and the freshness of the local food will create the perfect environment, where you will feel at home!

Day 1: check-in.

We'll board at 17:00: We begin our adventure in Corfu in the Naok marina, or Old Port, full of taverns and supermarkets, and a sign of the colonial legacy of Corfu. The historic center of Kerkyra, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is an enchanting and perfect place to explore right before starting our journey, with cobblestone streets, ancient stone walls and pastel-colored shutters. 

Sailing south of Corfu, you will be enchanted by the lush forests, lush green hills full of olive groves, crystal-clear waters and sparkling white beaches of the Ionian Islands. You will discover the Blue Lagoon and the famous Papanikolis cave. In the course of the day, don't miss the opportunity to stroll around the traditional village of Marina and be sure to grab a bite to eat and a drink in the many idyllic tavernas on the marina!

Today we sail to Parga, described as the most beautiful village in the Ionian Sea, distinguished by two spectacular bays on the main side of town and the Venetian castle forming an impressive backdrop. With plenty of beach bars and water sports to enjoy in the large bay to the west of the town, it is the ideal place to relax by the sea in the afternoon. To go ashore, however, you will need to take a water taxi (cost not included in the total package price).

The small island of Antipaxos is a hidden gem to be seen at least once in a lifetime. We will have lunch on board before stopping for a swim and an afternoon of relaxation in one of the island's most secluded and peaceful bays, home to the beautiful white pebble beaches of Voutoumi and Vrika. The shallow turquoise waters are perfect for snorkelling! In the evening, we recommend going ashore for an unforgettable dinner in a beach taverna (optional activity not included in the price) under the starry sky, before re-boarding for a quiet night in the roadstead.

Paxos, known for its excellent olive oil, will offer you an enchanting view of the lush countryside of this small island: jump on a motorcycle and head for a secluded bay after lunch on board. In the afternoon, you will spend your free time sunbathing and swimming, before returning to the city for the freshest fish, in one of the excellent local taverns supplied by the local fishing boats of the port.

Dotted with bays and sea caves, this part of the island of Paxos is every explorer's dream. After a delicious lunch on board, we head towards Lakka, in a small but lively village, where the shallow waters will be perfect for those wishing to discover the underwater wonders of the Ionian Sea. The multitude of bars and taverns that line the waterfront will give you all the charm of the Greek tradition, and later you can count the stars in a secluded and romantic bay.

In the afternoon we will return to the old port of Corfu, so you will have time to visit the city: do not miss the ancient Venetian fortress to see the city from above, and old town, where you can buy some souvenirs and admire the churches and museums! We will spend the night in the Marina of the old town of Corfu.

Day 8: Check-out

Check-out is scheduled in the morning by 09:00.

The region is famed for pristine beaches, unforgettable blue seas, and the lush Mediterranean landscape. Several lesser-known smaller islands make up this paradise cluster. M/S Aphrodite* is a motorised gulet with 7 cabins that can accommodate up to 20 passengers. Zante - Agios Nikolaos

Day 1 | saturday.

Today you will arrive and embark on the ship. The cruise departs at 5pm, so depending on your arrival time, you should have plenty of time to explore the many sights of Zante such as the Byzantine Museum and National Marine Park. As the sun sets you will make yourself at home on board and enjoy your first dinner as you set sail towards Agios Nikolaos. Note: On the rare occasion of any late arrivals, there is a possibility that you will not depart Zante on Saturday evening, and instead set sail on Sunday morning.

Agios Nikolaos - Agia Efthimia

Day 2 | sunday.

Spending the day in Agios Nikolaos, you have an optional 2 hour day cruise to Navagio Beach (Additional cost of 40 Euros pp) You will have the evening at your leisure, take the chance to stroll along the promenade to the marina, with a choice of traditional tavernas to choose from for dinner. Later in the evening you’ll depart towards Agia Efthimia In the evening you have the choice of staying local for dinner. Or there is an optional 3 hour Odysseus coach tour (additional cost of 40 Euros pp).

Agia Efthimia - Ithaca (Vathi)

Day 3 | monday.

Located on the mainland of Greece, Ithaca has been described as one of the region’s most beautiful areas. With a spectacular venetian fortress, the main town is nestled between two bays, with lush greenery, giving it an almost island feel. In the evening you have the choice of staying local for dinner. Or there is an optional 3 hour Odysseus coach tour (additional cost of 40 Euros pp).

Ithaca - Meganissi

Day 4 | tuesday.

Meganissi is one of the lesser known Ionian Islands, after lunch on board you will have plenty of time to relax on the secluded pebble beach. Meganissi is the perfect spot for swimming and snorkelling, or if you prefer to explore the island further, there are some beautiful clifftop walks and the chance to visit a nearby village. Dinner is at a pop-up beach taverna.

Meganissi - Fiskardo

Day 5 | wednesday.

Docking at the port of Gaios, today you have a full day to explore the island of Fiskardo including it’s numerous bays and semi-private coves. This can be done by motorcycle, car, bike or easily enough on foot. The island has some of the best seafood, so for dinner you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to local tavernas offering the catch of the day.

Fiskardo - Poros

Day 6 | thursday.

Poros, the second largest village on Kefalonia, is located in a horse shore bay surrounded by cypresses and olive trees. With both pebbled and sandy beaches, it’s a great area to walk to just explore and enjoy nature. In the evening you may explore the promenade and sample the numerous bars and restaurants or alternatively join the Captains BBQ dinner (Additional Cost of 40 Euros pp)

Poros - Zante

Day 7 | friday.

The final day of the cruise starts with a visit to Shipwreck Beach and village on the east coast of Zante. There is an optional 2 hour wine tasting (Additional Cost) In the evening you will dock at the marina and enjoy a Captain’s dinner with the group before saying a fond farewell.

Routes die de gulets varen

Griekenland biedt een variatie aan vaar routes: Dodecanese Eilanden – Patos, Arki, Lipsos, Leros, Kalimnos, Kos, Nisiros, Tilos, Astypalea, Simi and Rodos. Dit komt door het grote aantal aan verschillende eilanden die op relatief korte afstand van elkaar liggen. Geen andere plek geschikt voor cruises kan u zoveel mogelijkheden bieden als in de Zee tussen de Turkse en Giekse kust. Deze wateren zijn ideaal om aan boord van een gulet te varen.

Informatie en tips over de gulet cruise

Buitenlanders die in Griekenland arriveren dienen over verschillende documenten en visa’s te beschikken afhankelijk vanuit welke land ze afkomstig zijn. Het is verstandig om voor vertrek navraag te doen bij het Griekse Consulaat in uw land voor specifieke informatie over dit onderwerp.              Het vaar programma zal in detail met u worden doorgenomen door de kapitein bij inscheping. Het is goed om te weten dat het programma kan worden aangepast zonder vooraankondiging naar inzicht van de kapitein om vanwege de veiligheid, logistieke redenen of meteorologische omstandigheden. Voor uw eigen veiligheid is het goed om te veiligheid standaards aan boord te respecteren en de aanwijzingen van de bemanning tijdens het varen en aan- afmeren op te volgen. Vanwege hygiënische redenen dient u bij aanboord gaan uw schoenen uit te doen en op te bergen in de speciaal daarvoor gemaakte containers of in uw eigen cabine. Aan boord kunt u slippers of zachte schoenen met een schone zool dragen. Het gebruik van badlakens is aan te raden als u op het zonnedek wilt liggen, zeker indien u zich insmeert met zonnebrand crème. Hoewel de boten ruim en comfortabel zijn verzoeken wij u om het licht van uw cabine uit te doen als er niemand binnen is en gebruik het water en de douche met mate. Gooi geen dingen over boord in de Zee en papier of andere zaken in het toilet. De pompen kunnen kapot gaan en dan is het toilet niet meer te gebruiken. Net als in een hotel kunt u drankjes aan de bar gebruiken en contant af te rekenen voor u van boord gaat. Het is verboden om te roken in de cabines en de gemeenschappelijke binnenruimtes.  Zodra de cabines aan u zijn toegewezen en u geïntroduceerd bent aan de bemanning kan uw heerlijke cruisevakantie beginnen. Aan boord heeft u de beschikking over 220 Volt elektriciteit om mobiele telefoons, fototoestellen etc. op te laden en treft u handdoeken aan. (er zijn geen badlakens, shampoo en douche zeep). Wij raden u aan om de volgende zaken mee te nemen: een sweatshirt, zonnebril, zwemschoentjes/ sandalen, een petje, zonnebrand crème, duikbril en zwemvliezen, zachte tas, geen harde koffer die u kunt opbergen in uw cabine.

Voor een reis naar Griekenland zijn vaccinaties niet nodig: maar vanwege een ander klimaat en maaltijden is het wellicht handig om medicijnen tegen maag en darmstoornissen mee te nemen uit voorzorg. De lokale munteenheid is de Euro dus dat is eenvoudig. 

Als u tevreden bent over de service dan is het gebruikelijk om de bemanning een fooi te geven aan het einde van uw reis. Tevens moeten wij u wijzen op het feit dan het programma altijd kan wijzigen in verband met weersomstandigheden.

Day 3: Santorini We will arrive at the stunning natural beauty Santorini at noon, anchoring at the port of Fira. There’s an optional tour to archaeological sites and typical villages on the island, with unique views over the turquoise Aegean. Overnight sailing to Crete.

Day 5: Kythira We’ll stop for a swim late in the morning and afternoon arrive at Kythira. This island is a lesser known gem now fast becoming a favourite among visitors to Greece. The evening will be spent at leisure to visit the picturesque main town of Chora and experience the subdued charms of this peaceful island. Overnight in Kythira.

Day 6: Monemvassia – Nafplion In the early hours we set sail to the remarkable medieval fortified town of Monemvassia. Explore the wonderfully well preserved Venetian and Byzantine architecture surrounded by stunning natural beauty. We’ll leave in the early afternoon for Nafplion, with a swim stop on the way, arriving in the evening. Explore charming alleys of Nafplion, whose impressive medieval fortifications can be seen in the hills above the port. Overnight in Nafplion.

Day 8: Marina Zea, Athens Disembarkation after breakfast between 8-9am.

Itineraries can be changed at the discretion of the Vessel’s Captain in case of adverse weather conditions – winds of 6/7 beaufort or more depending on the vessel- on port authorities not allowing a vessel to leave port or in case of other extraordinary conditions. Such itinerary changes do not entitle automatically passengers to any refunds, but we guarantee that passengers are disembarked at the advertised port of disembarkation on time for their flights.

A hidden gem: Kythira

Kythira is a historical island which is part of the Ionian Islands. It lies opposite the eastern tip of the Peloponnese peninsula. In Ancient Greek Mythology, Kythira was considered to be the island of celestial Aphrodite, the Goddess of love.

Greek Night under Santorini island

The Greek-night dinner is followed by our famous and much-loved Greek night on board. Greek dance is a very old tradition, being referred to by authors such as Plato, Aristotle, Plutarch and Lucian.There are different styles and interpretations from all of the islands and surrounding mainland areas. Each region formed its own choreography and style to fit in with their own ways. As an example, island dances have more of a different smooth flow to them. Follow the rhythm and be tempted!

Hydra’s quaint port

One of the most unspoiled and interesting of the Greek islands is Hydra Island, it is a small rocky island in the Argosaronic Gulf, south east out of the Athens port of Piraeus and within sight of the southern Peloponnese mainland. It’s very cosmopolitan, safe and one of the easiest of the Greek islands to access. Best of all, the entire island is a preserved national monument and has retained all its 17th & 18th century charm and quaintness.
