NE Milkshake IPA brewed with Citra and El Dorado with coconut, pineapple and ancient tiki flavors added.

I’ve confessed before, but I love a good cocktail in the same way that I love a good glass of craft beer, which is a big part of the reason that when Listermann announced that they were collaborating with Pontiac BBQ to create a tiki inspired beer I got pretty excited.  Not to spoil my tasting notes before you get to them, but this doesn’t disappoint at all, in fact, it’s downright delicious.

The beer was released on 6/16/18 alongside Hank The Dumpster Kitty (The second release of that beer) and a draft only release of Raspberry Pie Berliner Weisse.  It was released in those fantastic 16oz cans that you’ve come to love from Listermann, with some of the brightest, most tropical artwork that I’ve seen… I love it.  With only 80 cases of this made available that day… it’s safe to call this a “limited release”, but I hope that it’s a sign of things to come.

My Thoughts On Yacht Rock

Yacht Rock (The beer…) is fantastic (Though the music is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine too.). In the glass the beer pours the now standard yellow/orange color, with a thick haze to it.

Things start to get interesting when you start smelling the beer, though.  It’s clear right up front that this isn’t a normal IPA.  I get a ton of mint aromas from the nose, with coconut and some pineapple juice alongside it.

Once you get the beer into your mouth your hit with the rounded coconut and pineapple flavors smacked with a cinnamon spice note, coupled up with that mintiness that I was smelling before.

This beer is a tiki drink in a glass, and at 6.5% it is easy drinking as well.  This is perfect for summertime drinking, by the pool preferably.  Just fantastic!

Tasting Notes

Juicy AF Classic Mango Pale - <0.5% 

Juicy AF Classic is our multi-international award winning big hops and mango booze-free pale ale. We've done some magic with our malts, temperatures and resulting sugars to create a special fermentation, leaving a proper, crushable beer that's full of body and taste (unlike your usual AF-lite stuff). Flipside Nectaron x Harlequin - 5.8%

The third in our wanderlust series of IPAs. We've paired a new wave superstar New Zealand hop with one of the UK's finest to create another plush, hazy 5.8% slider. Nectaron and Harlequin glide together to give you the ultimate tropical hit of passionfruit, peach and pineapple. Pack ya bags cuz, we're heading to the beach.

Maraca New England Pale Ale - 4.5%

Catch the perfect rhythm of our super session lush and fluffy quencher. Maraca is bursting with pear and candy notes followed by a big old mouthful of ripe, sticky mango and pineapple. Shake it, baby. Hops: Mosaic, Idaho 7, El Dorado. 

Funkel Weissbier - 5%

Funkel is a traditional, true-to-style German weissbier, loaded to the max with big notes of banana, citrus and cloves, delivering a pale and creamy wheat beer that packs a full 5% punch.

Firecracker ESB - 5.2% 

SIBA NATIONAL British Best cask GOLD medal winner and BRONZE medal winner for all cask beer. (ie, the best Best in the UK, and the 3rd best cask beer in the UK!) Firecracker is a deep, warming barrel of malty caramel, biscuits and raisins, with a subtle bang of tropical fruit on the nose. White Rock Lake water activities suspended after 1.5M gallons of sewage spilled from Plano

D allas officials temporarily suspended water-related activities at White Rock Lake after 1.5 million gallons of raw sewage spilled into water from Plano.

To protect public health, Park and Recreation officials are advising park visitors not to fish or enter the water due to elevated bacterial levels found in the creek and lake water.

Recreational boaters, rowing and yacht clubs will also discontinue their activities and water operations during the suspension, according to a notice from the Dallas Park and Recreation Department.

Environmental officials have been monitoring the lake after the spill, which started about 2:40 p.m. on March 14 when the valve at a water lift station in Plano failed, flooding the station and shuttering mechanical equipment. Sewage overflowed from three manholes near 5510 West Plano Parkway.

Plano officials estimated that about 500 gallons of sewage per minute flowed into White Rock Creek , which feeds into White Rock Lake. About 38 hours after the spill began, it ended just before 5 a.m. Saturday.

It is not clear how much sewage made its way from Plano to Dallas. To dilute the wastewater, Plano added dechlorination tablets and flushed the creek with water, said Victoria Cann, a spokesperson with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

The TCEQ, which is responsible for overseeing such incidents, said Tuesday it is investigating the spill. It is not yet clear whether any fines will be levied.

The spill already had one group revise its plans prior to the notice from Dallas officials, with the Corinthian Sailing Club moving its annual sailboat regatta from White Rock Lake to Lake Ray Hubbard over the weekend after it was notified of the spill.

“I would not want to fall in that water,” the club’s commodore Ralph Jones told The Dallas Morning News on Monday .

Untreated sewage has flowed from Plano into White Rock Creek in previous incidents. More than 320,000 gallons of sewage spilled into the creek after a severe storm in November 2021 downed a tree, which fell on an aerial sewage line.

In June 2018, a burst wastewater pipe in Plano sent 1 million gallons of raw sewage into the creek, prompting Dallas to suspend recreational activities at White Rock Lake.

With the most recent spill, Dallas’ park department said it would work with the city’s water utilities department to monitor water conditions and any treatments.

The department said Wednesday that it will post updates about when the water-related activities can resume at DallasParks.org and on department social media accounts.
