Needs to convey a level of status and maturity, but not stuffy or outdated . Might be interesting to include something nautical since that aligns with the meaning of the word "halliard" , but i dont want it to look corny or cliche . Nautical is not a necessity . The word "holdings" in the logo is not 100% necessary either, would be open to having a logo without it .

The client had an original logo that they had been using for 33 years, and wanted to use some inspiration from that. I took the sail from the original design and matched it with a modern and elegant feeling aesthetic.

Simplicity was something this particular client wanted us designers to focus on. I think I have achieved all goals - resulting in elegant, exclusive and simple logo. After presenting several options, my work has been chosen to the final round. Thanks to very good communication and feedback I was able to create artwork close to the client expectations. " A " was used as a logo / brand mark resembling top of the yacht or mast.

The request was to create a logo for a Yacht in the style of late '20s , early '30s. I've used art deco elements providing a strong and distinguishable silhouette.

Candela raises record funding to solve the biggest problem with electric boats.

The innovative Swedish electric boat maker Candela has just announced its biggest funding round ever, reeling in €24.5M (US $26.6M). Fresh off the announcement of the first commercial user of the company’s new P-12 electric ferry , Candela is now flying closer to its goal of replacing combustion engine watercraft with efficient electric boats in both the recreational and commercial boating industries.

The company is well on its way to achieving that goal, using an innovative design with computer-controlled hydrofoils that help its boats fly above the surface of the water. The hydrofoils enable the boats to use 80% less energy than comparable vessels covering the same route.

That efficiency improvement is an even bigger achievement in the water than on land, since electric cars only have to consider aerodynamics when they push air out of the way. Boats dealing with the hydrodynamic issues of much heavier water result in significantly lower efficiencies. Electric boats thus typically require incredibly powerful motors and massive battery banks. But Candela’s high-tech hydrofoils mean the boats can be much more efficient and economical with smaller motors and batteries that still achieve longer range.

And major boatbuilders seem to agree with Candela’s approach. In fact, one of the key contributing members of Candela’s latest record funding round is Groupe Beneteau, a leading global boat maker with a turnover of €1.46B, 15 factories, 9 brands, and more than 8,000 yachts built annually.

As the company explained, the move correlates with its own goals.

“Our investment perfectly aligns with Groupe Beneteau‘s ecological transition objectives, scaling up innovative solutions for more sustainable boating and unparalleled navigation experiences. Candela’s technology, enabling significantly more efficient electric vessels, will transform waterborne transport into its next sustainable phase”, said Bruno Thivoyon, CEO at Groupe Beneteau.

It’s a major score for Candela, as the company’s CEO Gustav Hasselskog added:

“We couldn’t be more excited about having Groupe Beneteau on board. As the leading global boat company, their trust is a stamp of approval for our technology to transform waterborne transportation. We’re excited for the possibilities ahead.”

Candela expects the new investment round to help scale up production to meet demand for the recently launched Candela P-12, the world’s first electric hydrofoil ferry.

The P-12 marks a new chapter in waterborne transport, as it’s the first fast and long-range electric ferry on the market. Its efficient hydrofoil tech cuts lifetime emissions by an impressive 97.5% compared to diesel vessels, while simultaneously cutting operators’ costs in half.

Since it generates minimal wake, the P-12 has been granted exemptions from speed limits in many no-wake areas, such as on its maiden route in Stockholm, where in July it will begin cutting travel times in half compared to road transport and legacy diesel vessels.

New team of Marines sent in to shore up security at the U.S. Embassy in Haiti

A new team of Marines has been sent to Haiti to help protect the American Embassy, the U.S. military said Wednesday, a day after the beleaguered Caribbean nation's prime minister announced his resignation following months of rising unrest and gang violence.

The U.S. Southern Command said in a statement that a fleet anti-terrorism security team, known as FAST, was deployed to the embassy in the nation's capital, Port-au-Prince, which has been at the center of the chaos and civil disorder.

The Marines are in the country to "maintain strong security capabilities at the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and conduct relief in place for our current Marines, a common and routine practice worldwide," the statement said.

The statement added that the embassy remains open, although only limited operations continue, including "supporting Haitian-led efforts to secure a peaceful transition of power."

A spokesperson said that “U.S. Southern Command is prepared with a wide range of contingency plans to ensure the safety and security of U.S. Citizens in Haiti.”

The U.S. military initially flew in forces Sunday to airlift nonessential personnel out of the country, in a procedure that was described as standard practice.

Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry said Tuesday that he would stand down once a transitional government — agreed to at a meeting of Caribbean leaders and the U.S. on Monday — was appointed.

No time frame was given for the transition and Henry remains prime minister, although he is in Puerto Rico and unable to return to Haiti after armed gangs calling for his resignation took control of major airports.

The U.S. military statement said that the Defense Department has doubled its funding for a multinational security mission in Haiti and was working with Kenya and other partners to "restore security in Haiti." Additional support could include planning, information sharing, airlifts and medical support, it said.

While Henry's departure was a key demand of the armed gangs that now control large parts of the capital, it appears that their campaign may not stop there.

Speaking to the Reuters news agency Tuesday, gang leader Jimmy Cherizier — known as “Barbecue” — said he had a message for any hotel owners sheltering politicians: "We are coming for you."

"We won't lie to people, saying we have a peaceful revolution. We do not have a peaceful revolution. We are starting a bloody revolution in the country," he said.

Meanwhile, Americans continue to leave Haiti.

Journalist and author Mitch Albom, who founded the Have Faith Haiti nonprofit group, which works with children and orphans, said on Instagram on Tuesday night that he, his wife and eight volunteers were evacuated from the country, where they had been sheltering after a state of emergency was declared.

"My wife and I are safe tonight. Many Americans, Canadians, and others who are still stuck are not. The people of Haiti are not," he wrote.

"I hope that our attention can turn to them and how we can help restore peace and safety to a beautiful country and its people, including our kids, who deserve so much better," he added.

The owner of a $3.4 million Lamborghini yacht screamed 'I will kill you' and threw $100 bills into the water when told he couldn't use a private dock

• The owner of a Lamborghini yacht threatened a private dock employee, per CBS8.
• The employee said Ajay Thakore mooned and threw cash at him after being told he couldn't use the dock.
• Thakore, the CEO of Doctor Multimedia, issued an apology through his public relations team.

The owner of a $3.4 million Lamborghini yacht threatened a private dock employee after being told he couldn't be there, the San Diego-based broadcaster CBS8 reported on March 11.

Joseph Holt, a 21-year-old employee at Marriot Marina in San Diego, told CBS8 that he spotted the yacht sailing into the private dock. The owner, whom CBS8 identified as Ajay Thakore, tried to pick another person up at the dock, Holt said.

"I told him respectfully that he couldn't be there, and I honestly was hoping to have a conversation with him about his cool boat," Holt told CBS8.

In a YouTube video posted by @SM-wc9eq on March 10, a dark blue Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 is seen sailing out of a dock. A man in a gray T-shirt, a pair of jeans, and a cap was shown standing on the yacht. The man appeared to be Thakore, per CBS8.

Thakore was shown shouting at Holt. "I will kill you, you know I will kill you!" he can be heard saying multiple times in the video

Thakore was later shown pounding his fist on his palm and pointing his thumb down before telling Holt: "To your face!" Holt was shown responding by pointing his middle finger at Thakore.

"I really was trying to restrain myself from getting fired from my job or stepping out of line. The only thing I did was give him the bird," Holt told CBS8.

Holt said Thakore then took $100 bills from his wallet and threw them at him. He added that Thakore mooned him. This exchange was not shown in the video.

"He was saying I'm nobody, I'm nothing, I work a silly job. He said that he knows people, he has connections, he can change my life and ruin it," Holt said. Holt did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

The San Diego Harbor Police arrived at the marina 10 minutes after Thakore's yacht exited the dock, per CBS8. The Harbor Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.

According to Thakore's LinkedIn page , he's the CEO of Doctor Multimedia. The company's website shows that it's a healthcare marketing firm based in San Diego. Thakore appears to go by the name Ace Rogers on Instagram and TikTok, where he's noted as being a professional gambler.

Thakore, through his public relations team, told CBS8 in a statement that his altercation with Holt was "regrettable."

"What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange," the statement said. Thakore did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.

Thakore isn't the only CEO who's been called out for threatening another person. In November 2021, an Activision spokesperson told BI that its ex-CEO Bobby Kotick had previously apologized for telling his assistant he would have her killed. The spokesperson added that Kotick's threat was "obviously hyperbolic and inappropriate" and that "he deeply regrets the exaggeration and tone."

In June 2020, Lisa Alexander, the CEO of LaFace Skincare, a cosmetics company, apologized in a statement to the media after she had threatened to call the police on her neighbor for writing "Black Lives Matter" on his property. Alexander said in the apology that she was "disrespectful" and "should have minded my own business."

The very essence that draws tourists from around the world and supports our enviable quality of life in South Florida — pristine beaches, vibrant marine life and the continental United States’ only nearshore coral reefs — is under siege, demanding urgent attention and innovative solutions.

As executive director and waterkeeper of Miami Waterkeeper, tasked with ensuring nature-based solutions for clean water, habitat protection and sea-level rise resilience, I understand the delicate balance between the magnetic attraction to Miami’s waterways and the real threats that increased urban density inflicts.

Earlier this month, during Miami Watekeeper’s annual State of the Water event on Virginia Key, I retold my personal story: being a newly minted waterkeeper who found herself in the middle of a David vs. Goliath struggle with the Army Corps of Engineers and a multinational company during the dredging of PortMiami. The 2013-15 dredging operation was part of an effort to enable the port to handle the new supertankers coming through the expanded Panama Canal.

After attempts to mislead and cover up the extensive damage, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers filing misleading photos in federal court and at public meetings, the environmental consultants working for the dredging company wrote a report concluding that only six corals were destroyed by the dredging. Having seen the damage with my own eyes and witnessing the moonscape of a buried reef spanning a large area, I knew this couldn’t be correct.

I spent a year with my scientific co-authors reanalyzing the raw data the consultants had produced, and our subsequent scientific research, published in 2019, demonstrated that millions of corals were likely killed. Our findings were supported by a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration report, finally released last August. That study also concluded that at least 278 acres of the Florida Reef Tract had been severely impacted by the dredging.

Corals, often overlooked in their significance, are vital components of our marine ecosystems. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, they play a crucial role in supporting marine biodiversity — supporting more than 25% of all marine life — and act as natural barriers protecting coastal communities from erosion and storm surges by reducing wave energy an average of 95%.

In southeast Florida alone, corals provide, on average, more than $600 million in coastal protection every year. That number skyrockets with a big storm. But our reefs are rapidly disappearing due to warming oceans, disease, pollution and irresponsible coastal construction like the PortMiami dredging. The urgent need to prioritize visionary coral preservation and restoration efforts cannot be overstated. Our reefs are a shadow of their former majesty — and trending downward every year.

Collaboration and community engagement are paramount in the journey toward restoration. As a community, we should rally around the idea of fixing this harm through the establishment of an industrial-scale coral restoration facility in Miami-Dade County. We can bring our reefs back — and show the world how to do it. This would not only promise economic opportunities and create a new industry but would also protect our coastlines and foster fishing and ecotourism activities.

Innovation emerges as a beacon of hope in this crisis. Miami is witnessing the confluence of visionary ideas and technologies driving the potential for large-scale coral restoration. Embracing science-based techniques that can be used to scale up our ability to restore reefs by orders of magnitude — from tens of thousands of corals a year to millions — presents an opportunity to reverse the damage inflicted upon our natural reefs.

The connection between coral restoration efforts and broader climate resilience strategies, exemplified by the nascent South Florida-based ClimateReady Tech Hub, underscores the opportunity for integrated solutions that address environmental and community-level needs. The success stories emerging from such an initiative would position Miami as a global leader in deploying community-level climate technologies.
