Atlas Paint Consultants have completely changed the way we approach our paint projects. Nico and his team have demonstrated, beyond a doubt that focusing on good paint practices, will lead to good paint results. Having Atlas on our team has made all the difference.
- Mike Poulin | MY Limitless
We found them to be very helpful and their attention to detail was exceptional. Their knowledge of the systems and application was far superior to previous paint consultants we’ve used in the past. They acted solely on behalf of the vessel and in turn had a good working relationship between the Shipyard and Paint contractor. We would certainly recommend Atlas to any vessel considering paint works in the future.

ICOMIA launches essential new Paint Colour Guide: Yacht Coating Technical Guidelines
The International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA) has produced a Paint Colour Guide: Yacht Coating Technical Guidelines as a result of their work with leading yacht coating manufacturers including Akzo Nobel, Hempel, Boero, CMP Chugoku and specialist coating consultants the Safinah Group.
The guide has been produced by ICOMIA members, for their members and the wider marine sector, in conjunction with industry technical experts including yacht paint surveyors, inspectors, chemists and formulators. It aims to provide clear, objective industry guidance on the use of paint colours and yacht coatings.
The days of yachts being painted only with the typical blue hulls and white superstructures are long gone. Today’s large yacht customers are desiring far more choice in terms of customisation and individuality of colours and special effect coatings for their yachts, from pastel colour shades to metallic, or pearlescent effect coatings. The choice of finishes is almost unlimited. However, with this expansion of colour choice comes a growing complexity around colour range suitability, application successes, ongoing maintenance and long-term repairability, especially with the increasing size of vessels.
The publication aims to provide a high-level understanding of the complexities and characteristics of colour in aesthetic coatings (topcoats) so that owners, applicators, management companies, shipyards and so on can make informed decisions about colour selection and the potential associated challenges with its application and in-service maintenance.
The ICOMIA Paint Colour Guide: Yacht Coating Technical Guidelines extends to over 100 pages and is available to download free for ICOMIA members. The cost for ICOMIA members is 150 €.

News of the publication of the Paint Colour Guide: Yacht Coating Technical Guidelines has coincided with the launch of the new two-day Yacht Coatings Technical Insight Course, developed by industry experts and managed by the Marine Surveying Academy. This new course is a subset of the successful and industry recognised Registered Marine Coatings Inspector (RMCI) classification.
Delivered face-to-face by knowledgeable and experienced tutors, the course is aimed at vessel managers, client representatives, project managers in new build and refit yards, applicator managers, paint company representatives, general and technical expert coatings and marine surveyors, flag state inspectors, marine underwriters and insurers. It is a course for those who wish to have a deeper technical understanding of large and superyacht coatings, their management and the coatings process in general without becoming an expert paint inspector.
