26m Mini K sold and renamed Soney following extensive refit

The 26.2-metre Extra motor yacht Mini K has been sold to an Italian client and renamed Soney following a major refit. The six-month project was completed at Palumbo Superyachts ’ shipyard in Ancona, Italy.

The motor yacht is the first hull in the 86 Fast series from Extra Yachts, part of Palumbo Superyachts, and was delivered in 2019 with exteriors courtesy of Guida Design . Following the refit, Soney ’s appearance has been enhanced with a chalk-grey finish and her teak decking refreshed, alongside substantial engineering updates and a restructured layout.

Soney can accommodate up to eight people across four cabins, including one VIP cabin and a full-beam, 6.6-metre master cabin. The major modification involves a partition that has been inserted between the helm station and the saloon. Access to the crew area has since been relocated next to the helm station and concealed by the new bar counter.

Engineering works included the replacement of all generators, watermakers, pumps and air-conditioning system, as well as resetting the engine hours to zero. All electrical and hydraulic handling parts, such as the gangway and the transformer, were inspected and repainted. The stabilisation system has also been replaced by a modern carbon fin stabiliser system, increasing comfort when underway and at anchor.

Powered by three Volvo Penta 735kW engines and an “innovative” IPS1350 system, Soney can reach top speeds of 30 knots while still providing “an extremely silent cruising experience”.

According to BOATPro , Extra Yachts is also expected to deliver an Extra X88 unit this month with another two yachts scheduled for delivery next year, including an Extra X96 and Extra X78 model.

The Virginia woman believed to have been killed alongside her husband by escaped prisoners who commandeered the couple’s yacht in the Caribbean was allegedly raped by one of their murderers, according to police.

One of the three men charged with the couple’s murder allegedly raped Kathy Brandel, 71, before the trio killed her and her 66-year-old husband, Ralph Hendry, on their sailboat last month, according to the Royal Grenada Police Force.

Ron Mitchell, Atiba Stanisclaus and Trevon Robertson were all charged Thursday with two counts of capital murder as well as escaping lawful custody, housebreaking, robbery and two counts of kidnapping, police said .

Stanisclaus, 25, was also charged with one count of rape in the deadly case. The Royal Grenada Police confirmed that the rape charge is related to an assault on Brandel in a statement to the Daily Mail .

The Royal Grenada Police did not immediately reply to a question about what evidence led to the additional charge, given that cops have not recovered Brandel’s body.

The bodies of the couple have not been found since they were last seen near their docked catamaran, the Simplicity, in St. George’s, Grenada, on Feb. 18 — the same day the three men allegedly broke out of a police holding cell on the island.

Police believe the escapees hijacked the sailboat while the couple were on board. It was found anchored and deserted days later.

Large amounts of blood were found on the ransacked boat, but Hendry and Brandel were nowhere to be found. Police believe their killers threw their bodies overboard while sailing to St. Vincent.

The three men were arrested in St. Vincent on Feb. 21 and were sent back to Grenada on Monday, where they were arraigned in court and sent back to prison.

The men were originally being held on robbery charges before their escape.

They are expected back in court on March 27.

Brandel and Hendry, experienced cruisers, were living on their sailboat at the time of their brutal deaths.

The couple’s children remembered their parents in a touching statement.

“We live in a world that at times can be cruel, but it’s also a world of profound beauty, wonder, adventure, love, compassion, caring, and faith,” they wrote in a statement.

“Our parents encompassed all those values and so much more. If we have learned anything from this tragic event, it’s that we know they left this world in a better place than it was before they were born.”

R Madhavan discloses that his most expensive purchase is a yacht and it is kept in Dubai; says, ‘It has gotten me one step closer to nirvana’

R Madhavan, who is basking in the success of his recently released film ‘Shaitaan’, revealed details of his biggest acquisitions so far in an interview. He shared that his yacht ranks second after his home.

Madhavan disclosed that he dreamt about obtaining a captain’s license and buying a yacht. He said, “The most expensive purchase that I bought is the house that I have. It’s quite expensive. Does a family of three require that big a house? Not at all. But apart from that house the most expensive thing I got was a yacht. I bought it because I always wanted to take a captain’s license and during Covid I had nothing to do so I gave my exam and it took me six months. So, now I am a licensed captain who can sail a 40-foot yacht or a boat and just to scratch that off my bucket list, I bought the yacht and I enjoy it thoroughly.”

When asked about how the yacht brings him peacefulness and fulfillment, Madhavan said, “It is a place for me to write. I take it out to the sea and I park overnight, I look at the dolphins fly around as I write my stories, it is the best purchase of my life. It is parked in Dubai. It has brought me a lot closer to nirvana.” As per estimates, a 30 or 40-foot yacht costs anything between $500,000 to $2 million.

Despite being a successful actor in the entertainment industry, Madhavan revealed that he hasn’t hoarded a considerable amount of wealth as an actor, as he gives priority to being ‘on the right side of the law and paying all his taxes.’ However, he expressed pride in owning a yacht as it brings enormous joy to him and his family.

At the box office, 'Shaitaan' has crossed Rs 100 in just 10 days.
